after simmering over antimemetics division for a day or so, i can confidently say its not just an allegory for fascism, but its also about capitalism. fascism isnt some uniquely evil idea that come out of nowhere and slithered through society invisible until it becomes too big to ignore. fascism is merely a symptom of something bigger despite the atrocities. but it can be understood without some kind of special training. so it would be rather disingenuous to straight up equate scp 3125 to just fascism. instead, in antimemetics division, scp 3125 is the capitalism metaphor, the world ending scenario it caused after breaking into the world is the symbol for fascist societies.
after all, fascism is capitalism is crisis. if you let capitalism go on, eventually before you know it the world is ending, people are murdered in droves and you will wonder why no one noticed anything until the very end?
scp 3125 is the end point of almost all antimemetic scp's. something so vast, all encompassing, interconnected, permeates the fabric of reality and was so horrible, you almost cant defeat it. as more and more of scp 3125 breaches the universe, the more it manifested seemingly unrelated horrors out of nowhere. similar to how as capitalism reaches its logical end, multiple seemingly unrelated crisis started happening. either from climate change, destruction of indigenous societies, etc. until we see it in its worst forms.
the victims of antimemetics, forgotten and erased, can be seen as the violence of wage labor and social murder happening almost daily in order to keep the gears of capital running. people will forget anything, they will forget there is a memorial the size of a skyscraper the way people forget about banana republics, sweatshops, ethnic massacres, etc.
so, how do they stop the xk class world ending event? they stop scp 3125. how do they stop it? with a better idea. a better idea that has to survive countless attempts at killing it. in the end, its not just the idea. but the people, the foundation, countless unnamed and forgotten goi's, their cooperation, the countless training and asynchronous research, the ability of antimemetics personnels to backtrack, adapt, and think outside the box , learn and preserve information about the fights and wars they lost for the future to use. sorta like how you fight capitalism tbh.

okay so I got vaguely into the scp foundation a little over a year ago, mainly the scp stories, but I only really read a little of nightfall and the wanderer's library, and of course the antimemetics division. The antimemetics division. I've just seen an scp post and Had A Flashback and I forgot how crazy that shit is. Completely disregarding that nightfall and wanderer's library stuff I barely comprehended (and still don't), the antimemetics division story is a fucking ride. I don't want to spoil it too much, but Cosmic Horror Climbs Out Of Employee's Fucking Eye Socket and Woman Drugs Herself So Much She Can See Secret Bomb and Man Lives Time Loop While Memory Monster Steals His Mind But Then He Throws A Phone At It And It Works and mustn't forget Monster That Is Literally Everywhere Except That One Room. Tldr, I had a flashback and now I'm back on my scp shit, also go read the antimemetics stuff it's really good (if you want absolute mindfuckery)

These folks made a live action version of the Antimemetics division series and it's honestly everything I could ask for out of an indie project like this. Y'all should really check it out!

What’s an antimeme? Why are people telling us they’re excited about a story we’ve never heard of before? Maybe this video will hold the answers…

ANTI-MEMETIC
3-34,864 Employees
MATERIEL
1 ID Card Each 1 Pencil Each 4 6-Sided Die Each (in a pool) 1 Yahtzee Scorecard
ID:
NAME CLEARANCE PERFORMANCE REVIEWS (four ratings chosen between 1 and 6)
Choose a Leader, they begin clockwise rotation and keep score. Each turn the dice pool is rolled thrice, saving dice of the active Employee's choosing between rolls.
The Enemy is Yahtzee. Defining Yahtzee is dangerous, instead, define what it is not. For number scores, the dice pool must contain exactly FOUR of the number, and there is a price, active Employee's performance reviews matching the number score are ERASED.
There are as many dice in the pool as there are performance reviews between employees. Rectify any errors.
Yahtzee is 5 or more of the same die result. All Performance Reviews on the whole team matching the Yahtzee number are ERASED as you are noticed. Rectify any dice pool errors.
No Employees on the Anti-Memetics team have no performance reviews. Records claiming otherwise are errors, and are discarded.
If all scores are filled, the Enemy's shape becomes clear. It may yet be stopped.
If the team has no employees, then
There Is No Anti-Memetics Team.

Archival is fine. Obviously heavily inspired by The Antimemetics Division, particularly qntm's works, on the SCP Wiki. Cutting this down to 200 words from like 550 was painful. Also, this is deeply untested in a pretty horrifying way, and may be impossible or too easy.
Tumblr 200-Word RPGs 2023
Last November, we did an informal game jam for folks who wanted to write something for Writing Month, but would prefer to write fewer than fifty thousand words of it. You can find the complete list of participants for that event in this post here. There's also an off-Tumblr archive of entries whose authors gave permission for them to be preserved here, if any of those links turn out to be broken.
Last year's collaboration went over well enough that I thought we might dust it off again this year. To be clear, this is just for fun – it's not a curated jam, and nobody's judging winners or handing out prizes..
If you'd like to throw your hat in, just follow these steps:
Step 1: If you're unfamiliar with 200-word RPGs, read a bunch of last year's entries (linked above) or browse the 200 Word RPG Challege archives at https://200wordrpg.github.io/ to get your brain-meats properly configured.
Step 2: Write your own 200-word RPG. If you're not sure whether you have 200 words or not (and with RPGs it can genuinely be difficult to tell!), you can use the word counter at https://200wordrpg.github.io/wordcount to check.
Step 3: Reblog this post and append your 200-word RPG.
Step 4 (optional): Please indicate in your post whether you're okay with having your 200-word RPG archived off-site for posterity – if you don't say anything one way or the other, I'll assume the answer is "no".
(As before, as a courtesy to anyone who's creeping the notes, please restrict non-200-word-RPG commentary to replies and tags until November 2023 is over – let's make the actual games easy to find!)

i found this weird book in my room this morning….i dont remember buying it…..every time i try to read it i get distracted and forget i have it…can someone help me identify this book?
happy halloween!! i wasnt actually planning on posting this today but i managed to finish it just before the hallows eve struck!
for anyone still wondering this is a handmade bookbind of There Is No Antimemetics Division by qntm! this is just a hardcover rebind made from a paperback i bought online so no fancy typesetting here unfortunately. BUT i am happy with the cover design at least
closeup pics and thoughts abt my process below!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i wanted to keep the covers pretty minimalistic to make the book seem more mysterious and to draw more attention to the square window i cut out of the cover boards. fun fact, that square is supposed to represent SCP-055! theres only so much i can do to represent something indescribable, but its not round, so at least i have that
Tumblr media
originally i was planning on making the text along the spine white so it would have a sort of disappearing effect against the white fabric, but it didnt really work out so i printed just the shadow of the text instead for a there-not-there look
Tumblr media Tumblr media
something i really wanted to try while making this was to paint the edges of the textblock black. i think it came out nicely! it looks neat contrasted to the white cover :p
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now the ENDPAPERS!! i had actually imagined the design for these way before anything else. i tried to go for a sort of fractal pattern of fingers like the monster from Fresh Hell. i quite like it in combination with the window on the front cover :3
okay thats all thx for coming with me on my journey ^_^

There Is No Antimemetics Division reminded me why I keep coming back to speculative fiction.
---
Here's a short excerpt from qntm's novel There Is No Antimemetics Division:
Kim is so deeply buried in work at his terminal and the airlock is so quiet that he almost doesn't notice when it starts to cycle open again. "We need to check you for notes," he begins, but then he sees that Marion Wheeler is curled up in the bottom of the narrow cylinder, panting as though she just finished a marathon run. Kim holds a hand out but she shakes her head, electing to stay lying down, knees bent up to her chest, sucking down lungfuls of air. "What in the world happened in there?" Kim asks. "Just need…" she gasps, "…to breathe. Be okay in a… second. Haaaaah. I think I blacked out for a moment, might have inhaled some. Haaaaah. I think I'm okay. I remember the plan." Kim looks confused and worried for a second, then they replace him. "You shouldn't be able to remember anything… what did you do?"
Look at the bolded line. I couldn't make heads or tails of that the first time I read it. It's grammatically weird because "they" as a pronoun has an ambiguous referent. Typically one would expect an antecedent--a noun that a pronoun refers to--somewhere in the sentence or at least the paragraphs before that pronoun pops up. So, I fumble around for a second. Could it be a bizarre, metaphorical way to refer to the verb phrase in the sentence, like, confusion and worry "replace him", like completely consume all his thoughts? A pretty, if strange, turn of phrase. But no, "they" is an external entity. I might have understood more readily if the pronoun was "IT replaces him", but that's part of the fun of the sentence. Because in the span of a few words, having been exposed for just a few seconds to a toxic idea, agent Paul Kim is hollowed out and replaced as a person, and if you knew who "they" are, doing the replacing, you'd already be replaced too.
To know the antecedent is to be consumed by it.
That's the hook of There Is No Antimemetics Division. Antimemes are self-redacting concepts, and the story, told episodically and nonlinearly through a series of encounters with antimemetic anomalies, is about an antimeme so vast and monstrous that it ends the world. That probably sounds familiar if you were a Magnus Archives fan; Antimemetics Division is basically like that but more compressed, chaotic, and... seemingly more sincere about being a Creative Commons work. The novel only exists, after all, because of the creative commons work of countless contributors to the SCP Wiki, a large collaborative fiction writing project about the titular SCP Foundation. This organization exists to Secure, Contain, and Protect dangerous anomalies. The novel, then, poses a specific challenge to the Foundation: how do you contain a threat you can't remember?

The Astro City issue with the guy talking about the 'Ourobor' and the alien doors ... but actually he's locked up in an insane asylum. What's that about? What cape trope is that in conversation with? I'm not very tapped into the history of comics.
My speculation was that it's about the 'secret world conspiracy' trope, especially since the next issue gives off massive Cauldron vibes.
At the time you sent this ask, I hadn't actually read that part of the revival run, so I had no clue what you were talking about. Sorry for the delay! I think the Broken Man is Astro City's loose spin on Morpheus from The Sandman- an anthropomorphic personification of a particular element of the zeitgeist, subject to a process of cyclical reincarnation, who, as the inciting element of the current story, was waylaid, crippled and imprisoned in an attempt to prevent him from fulfilling his intended role; he's also aware of, and capable of exploiting his own status as a metatextual, narrative-powered being in order to act as a host-slash-framing device in the vein of some of the older EC comics narrators.
More broadly he's a metatextual explanation for the entire premise of the comic- the reason Astro City almost exclusively focuses on weird edge-cases and underexamined corners of the superhero setting, while only giving periodic focus issues to the characters who would normally be the headliners in a normal superhero comic, is that when those headliners reach a certain level of prominence the Ourobor starts actively monitoring and subverting them, making it dangerous to spend too much time in their vicinity.
