Hi! Genuinely curious. I know a lot of artists don’t like qrts on Twitter because they remove engagement from the original post, but on tumblr, the engagement stays with the original poster, so I’m curious why you don’t want comments on reblogs. Is the engagement thing why you don’t like comments on your art, or is there a different reason?
hi! so im going to write this post with the assumption some people who read it may be unfamiliar with tumblr so pls excuse me if im explaining things you personally already know/is considered common sense/etc... i am also unsure which parts i should consider common knowledge/how far to explain so please forgive me if i overexplain a bit!
so on tumblr, comments on art do not affect engagement, but it is still commonly held etiquette not to add comments directly onto reblogs of art.
the reason for this is that when you add a comment directly onto a reblog (ie, not in tags nor the reply function) is that the comment becomes permanently affixed to that version of the post. it becomes a secondary caption, basically; it is not the same as a reply on twitter or a comment on insta. if the reblog with the comment is reblogged by someone else, that comment will remain and can continue to be shared, even if the commenter were to later delete the post. you now then, effectively, have a new version of the post that has additions to it.
this has become somewhat more of an issue lately, as tumblr recently updated to remove the ability to go to where somebody reblogged a post from. which is to say, if somebody encountered a post that has a lot of additive comments on it, but wanted to reblog the original/a version with less or different comments, they can no longer do so unless they scavenged someones blog for the post manually.
generally speaking, many artists prefer no direct additions be made to their posts (although sometimes people add image descriptor IDs, which i dont mind people doing) so that only the original iteration exists and can be reblogged, without anything extra added onto it that isn't meant to be there. the reply function (looks like a chat bubble at the bottom of a post) is a newer addition, but most people still prefer to add thoughts/commentary in tags -- since reblog tags only serve an organizational purpose within someones own blog/exist to help filter content warnings, it is very commonly used to add comments, since that will stay within someone's specific reblog and will not affect or change a post. original posters are still notified of every reblog and their tags (and i really like to go through and read/reread tags), so any commentary can still be appreciated and seen even without having to attach it to a post directly
tl;dr: id just prefer my art posts to be able to stand alone and be able to be shared that way w/out extra comments/a comment chain on them
i hope this helps answer the question...!

spoiler talk for monogatari up til zoku
i wanna talk about oddities in monogatari so im just gonna dump my current thoughts n developing ideas on it rq
theyre like the big conceit of the series and i think the most common reading is of them as representing mental illness-- but i dont think it can be simplified to this so easily. they are also things like gods, myths, which suggests to me the idea of God/gods existing in the self. but also they are people a lot of the time too:
the series tends to humanize the oddities, giving them personalities and even often shifting to the perspective of one (noticing this a lot in the light novels esp). so they are subjectified. but at the same time they are objectified: they often act to fulfill a set purpose, what they were created to do, some kind of function, which can be most clearly seen with oddities like kako, the weight crab, the rainy devil. so they flow between subject and object... making me think they represent a kinda abject in a way. abject being something of the Other the "I" recognizes in itself-- and feels horror or disgust in that recognition...
theres also a really interesting aspect to how oddities r connected w the idea of deviant identities-- ppl who are different from the norm and subvert it simply by virtue of being themselves, and are thus Otherized and demonized by society and shunted under the system. clearest example that comes to mind for this is ougi. ougi represents a deviant existence, as they are an "unknown" that gaen sees as dangerous and seeks to get rid of. not to mention their genderqueerness. but i think also notably, they are created as an entity of critique, and as such represent a critique of the norms of society. they r also an oddity composed of ALL oddities (bc of the whole thing with shishirui seishirou), so this is suggesting to me that monogatari is definitely linking oddities with the idea of a deviant or norm-defying identity. i think this is part of why i like them so much.
i think this is also where the idea of the darkness could come into play, as a kind of symbol of societal norms and dominant culture subsuming everything. it exists to uphold the Rules but those Rules kinda suck ngl. it absorbs and subsumes everything as a 'nonexistence--' but it IS there. society isnt smth u can touch but it certainly has a heavy impact on everyone. and the oddities have always been societal, existing within people, so it makes sense that the darkness as the judge of oddities would be connected there too.
this is kinda another point for ougi in terms of representing identities defying the norm (and therefore, for the idea of oddities in general representing identities defying the norm). ougi is a quasi-darkness, and imitates the role of the darkness, but obv they do not acc share values with the darkness. so in imitating the role of the darkness but not the values, it serves as a critique of the darkness. which is followed up on during ougi dark, where she faces the disapproval of the darkness but ultimately survives the encounter. their whole existence, then, subverts the darkness and critiques it-- literally by continuing to exist it is a statement against the darkness that would have had them erased. in being a quasi-darkness they are a critique of the darkness And a better darkness Than the actual darkness. kaiki is that you lol
but that kind of subversion of the norm, of the Rules and Laws, just by existing, is simply incredibly queer. ougi, who in a way represents oddities in general, being this super subversive person and being suggests to me that oddities in general represent the 'oddness' inside a person, the oddness that disrupts the conventions of society.
and that also kinda gets back into the abject too. people are not like, things to be fit into boxes. people are fucking weird, and even if they try to fit into the boxes dictated by their societies, meeting the oddity is undeniable proof of the Other, the subversion of the norm, the deviancy within them.
its too late in other words your gender has been transed not my fault! sorry i was too gender for you i guess lol!
um. yeah

While I'm working on the other piece,, how Lily comes to accept SMG4&3 as her dads finally came to my mind! :>
Anyway,, found family YESSSS
○●○
Lily was terrified out of her mind, but she knew she had to be brave.
She exhales softly and peers around the corner, seeing the Paratroopa that had stolen the bag of everyone's things. It wasn't Wario, unfortunately for her, or else she was pretty sure she might've been able to trick him enough to get it back.
No, of course, of all things, it had to be a Paratroopa.
Lily glances around before spotting a metal pipe on the ground. Strangely convenient, but hey, she wasn't going to complain. She picks it up and twirls it a bit before glaring at the Paratroopa. He was grounded now, so if she was quick..
With another soft exhale, she races around the corner whilst raising the pipe before swiftly bringing it down, knocking the Paratroopa down. She grabs the bag with her free hand and immediately begins backing away as fast as she can. Unfortunately, she doesn't make it far.
The Paratroopa, cursing up a storm, quickly recovers and flies towards her. It's a long blur, but now Lily knew she was on the roof of a particularly tall building, she didn't have the bag, but the Paratroopa was gone.
"Lily!" suddenly comes SMG4's voice, making her gasp. With a small whimper from pain, she gets up and makes her way over to the edge. There, she can see SMG4 looking up with worry, but it changes to relief when he sees her. Off to the side, she can see SMG3 in his N64 model, groundpounding the absolute shit out of the Paratroopa.
"How stupid are you?" 3 hisses. "All of our stuff is password protected! How would you even explain that?!"
"Lily, are you okay?" 4 asks, glancing briefly at his partner before looking back at her.
"U-uh, yeah. A little sore, but.. I'm okay!" she nods.
"Great." 4 sighs in relief, smiling. "Okay, well, are you able to get down? Is there a staircase anywhere? A ladder?"
Lily moves away from the edge and quickly looks around. Her heart sinks, seeing nothing. She quickly ran back over to the edge. "N-No.. there's nothing.."
4 curses and looks down in thought. Then, he looks back over at 3 and then the Paratroopa. His gaze gets mischievous as he looks at the Paratroopa, as if he realized something. His expression then softens as he looks back up at Lily.
"Just jump." SMG4 calls. "SMG3 and I will catch you."
SMG3 pauses and looks at his partner like he's crazy before the other points at the Paratroopa. 3 slowly looks down at it before a wide, malicious grin spreads on his face.
"A-Are you sure?" Lily swallows thickly. "You promise?"
4 nods as 3 moves away from the Paratroopa. The two join hands and a soft glow surrounds their bodies. Lily was blown away by how.. beautiful the glow was.
"We promise." 4 and 3 smile up at her, nothing but trust and confidence behind their smiles.
The child inhales deeply before leaping over the edge. She quickly tucks into a ball, eyed squeezing shut.
She heard the Paratroopa shout in shock before it faded away, and then something warm began to whizz around her body, almost protectively. She didn't have time to question it though, as soon she was in someone's arms.
She opens her eyes to see SMG4 smiling down proudly at her. "See? Nothing to be scared off."
Lily giggles softly and nods, fixing her hair. 4 also shifted his hold on her, carrying her on his side. She exhales softly and rests her head on his shoulder, feeling pretty tired.
"You were brave today, kid. I wish Luigi was as half as brave as you were." 3 pats her head, smiling. "Going after him while his idiots distracted us? Really smart."
Lily blushes from embarrassment. "It wasn't that smart.. I just saw him flying off and decided to follow him.."
"Doesn't matter." 4 hums. "You managed to get everyone's stuff back! We're really proud of you, Lily."
Lily closes her eyes, letting out a soft and tired hum. "Thanks Dad.. thanks Papa.."
As she drifts off into a light sleep, 4 and 3 look at each other, absolutely shocked. Though the former soon grins and whispers. "After a month, she's finally our kid! Yes! Another child acquired!"
3 snorts. "Techincally, by law, she was already our kid since we adopted her so she wouldn't have to go into an orphanage."
4 sticks out his tongue. "Her legally being our child is very different from her considering us as her dads."
SMG3 laughs softly so as not to disturb Lily before bumping his partner's shoulder. "Okay, that's fair." He then hoists the bag over his shoulder and walks off. "Now let's go going, scrub. Everyone is probably freaking out over their stolen shit."
SMG4 snorts and rolls his eyes. He adjusts Lily so he can better carry the sleeping girl before following. "Bet you its over their search histories."
"Oh definitely."
