#anyway that's my onion
Text
rian johnson took all that time, put in all that effort to make glass onion a fantastic period piece to the first four months of pandemic, a prescient narrative that anticipates the stupidity of rich billionaires, and then pulled the rug from under us because the world of benoit blanc just straight up doesn't have the mona lisa anymore

I actually love glass onion being set deep in covid times but where's the post that was like . Glass Onion should have ended with benoit blanc getting home and testing positive for covid . I really think that would've tied the whole thing together

But if anyone can name the killer, tell me how they achieved the murder, and most importantly, what was the motive...

I’m not much of a shipper, especially compared to other people on tumblr, so let me tell you I saw the gif set of the scene with Hugh Grant before I saw Glass Onion, just vaguely skimmed it and went “oh? he’s playing a gay husband? how nice, OH this is from Glass Onion? That’s Blanc’s husband? Fucking Neat gotta watch this soon now don’t look at the gifs too hard so I don’t get spoiled any further”
so I am terribly sorry but I gotta say, people’s reaction being “I thought that was his butler” has me like ????? You thought. That  was. his BUTLER? You saw a frazzled looking man in a t-shirt and tie-die apron holding a sour dough starter in the may of 2020 scolding another man for being in the bathtub too long and went “this seems like an emploer employee relationship”? If that had been a fictional english butler Jeeves’ ghost himself would have jumped out from the pages of a Best Of P H Woodehouse collection and politely tossed him out of a window WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOU THOUGHT THAT WAS HIS BUTLER why would someone’s BUTLER complain to ANgela LANSBURY about his boss not leaving the bathtub Where did you get that idea from he wasn’t dressed as a butler he didn’t talk like one There are Movie Conventions that will tell you if someone is a butler Hugh Grant telegraphed None of them
what you did there was you gal palled them, you looked at two queer people and went against all evidence for the straightest explanation. “Well why didn’t we see them kiss and stuff” Because they didn’t have to they really didn’t. There is No Fat in that script it’s Yes he’s in a relationship let’s move on. We didn’t even get to see Helen’s makeover! Frankly I had assumed that Blanc is just living alone like so many famous fictional detectives do, Sherlock Homes has his famous flatmate but that’s as far as it usually goes, Columbo has a awife but we never even get to see her, the fact that they just gave Benoit Blanc a spouse and we got to see him in the second installation of the franchise on screen was enough of a shock for me to take in if they had shown us any more domestic stuff I would have dropped dead on the spot

protect trans kids! 🛡️💖🕷️
gwen and miles are some of the most joyfully trans-coded young characters i've ever seen, especially miles' journey towards autonomy ("doing things his own way") in the second film, and the thought of their t4t joy and solidarity brings me so much happiness. i'm not just saying that in a shipping context - trans friendship is so important to me & we need to protect and cherish it, and we need it to protect each other. i hope this piece makes you happy too!! 💖💖💖
ALSO, exciting news, i finally have an inprnt! here is the link - this gwen & miles piece is up on there if you're interested!!! please DON'T HESITATE TO ASK if you want me to put a piece i've posted up on inprnt for you to buy, if it isn't there already! thank you all for your support :')

when I started this pmd journey no one told me I was gonna get so attached to my teams AAARRRGH
so many thoughts... I will leave some of them in case anyone is curious 👉👈
so at first my eos hero was just the character i played as, i wasn't expecting them to be so important for the plot (first pmd game yeah), he's like his own guy so i'm legally changing their name to Cebolla hehe
Pringle takes the offensive in battle while Cebolla has more of a support/annoyer role, so they're usually the one carrying the bags while Pringle tries to keep objects out of the way for agility.
Pringle used to paint his paws with black, waterproof paint, he had to paint and wash them everyday. after Cebolla disappeared, Pringle was just way too tired and unmotivated so he stopped painting them altogether (which just made him feel worse oof). he started using longer lasting dye eventually.
Pringle got pretty close to Dusknoir at first, but Dusknoir started avoiding being alone with him after he discovered who Cebolla was. it took a long time for Pringle to understand why. Cebolla on the other hand clicked with Grovyle instantly and wished they could've spent more time together (future trio does return to visit eventually tho... for my peace of mind).

i was thinking a lot about the similarities between almalexia and voryn today, mostly on a meta level in how theyre involved in the game's narrative and actions they take that drive it
doing so, i realised they both have p much the same reactions to the nerevarine and act toward them in an almost identical way, but it's very striking to me how this actually can say a lot about nerevar as a character, rather than examining what this means for the both of them
during the morrowind main quest, dagoth ur frequently plays on and references his past relationship with nerevar in attempts to manipulate the nerevarine. he addresses the nerevarine in very intimate ways, and repeatedly alludes to wanting them to join him. in the end, when the nerevarine has a conversation with dagoth ur before their battle, voryn kind of openly admits that regardless of his attempts to have the nerevarine join him, he admits he could never fully trust them and dagoth ur would have betrayed them once the tools were handed over (had the nerevarine chosen to join voryn)
in tribunal, when you first meet almalexia, she immediately endears herself to the nerevarine by instantly referencing their status as her dead husband. she makes a show of addressing the nerevarine this way and proclaiming how happy she is to be reunited. she then sends the nerevarine on a series of suicide missions in an attempt to get them killed, but she frames it the entire time as "of course you'll help your wonderful, sweet, beautiful, innocent wife achieve this goal, right? :3c" (and you do)
the way the 2 of them both behave this way towards the nerevarine is fascinating to me, especially when you consider these 2 characters of course knew nerevar in life and were both very close to him, so its interesting to me that they both immediately think to manipulate the nerevarine via forms of seduction. i think that says something very interesting about nerevar himself though, because almalexia and voryn had to have a reason to think this would work on his reincarnation, right?
it really feels as though they are both trying to exploit nerevar's love for them by way of attempting to rouse these feelings in the reincarnated manifestation of him, since they just expect appeals to their past relationships to work on them, which also gives me the feeling that nerevar may have been a very loyal person to his close loved ones, and that quality in itself proved to hurt him more in the end

I have to say this now, because Sherlock Holmes is trending and I am celebrating more than I did this Christmas. I watched Knives Out and Glass Onion and it made me realise something crucial about Holmes. He is fundamentally a good person. Does he sometimes behave a little bit like he doesn't care? Yeah. And does he solve cases because he wants the thrill and the mystery? Yep. But I would argue that he mainly solves cases because he wants to help people. His first case was when he helped his friend. Later we see multiple instances of this happening again and again (him being a genuinely good person). I have said it once and I will say it a million times— Sherlock Holmes is interesting because he is a smart guy who is NOT an asshole. He is (mostly) considerate to people, and their feelings. He takes cases to help people. The prime example that springs to mind is Copper Beeches, where he didn't think Violet Hunter had anything interesting to say about her case. But he still agreed to hear her out. And many times, he has done things for people, solved their mysteries without any money. Now you could say that he is not concerned about money at all, except we have seen him squeeze the king of Bohemia. He takes high profile cases to pay the bills, normal cases to solve puzzles, and the really simple mysteries because he wants to help people. I may have talked about this in another post and used the example of Twisted Lip, and Blue Carbuncle to say how he let criminals (of a sort) go solely based on his moral judgement.
The reason why I bring this up in the same breath as the Knives Out films is because of Benoit Blanc's character. That man is very polite unless he absolutely needs to be rude or has been driven to the ends of his patience. You know, like a normal person? And I loved how it just completely avoided the trope most modern mysteries, crime thrillers, and detective stories fall into. I like to call the trope "The Genius Asshole Syndrome". And it just sort of stigmatises really really smart people for not having social skills by twisting them into something mean and uncaring. And so many modern adaptations of Sherlock Holmes fall into that. And yes, BBC is one of them. So do the Ritchie!verse movies. They make Sherlock Holmes act flippant towards other people, because such a genius cannot possibly care for the normal people. He cannot possibly appreciate other different versions of smart, because he is obviously a genius and a genius is always an asshole, and not empathetic at all. So it was really refreshing to see a detective who cared about his clients, and vulnerable people. It was nice to see a detective get angry on behalf of a defenceless person. And it was very nice to see a detective not wanting to fuck a female client who is maybe half his age. (Plus the gay thing worked out great). I really feel like we need more genuinely good, kind, and helpful people in fiction, and now that Sherlock Holmes is completely in public domain, we can hopefully get something that is faithful to his actual character instead of the two dimensional grim dark detective dynamic. And maybe modern media can give us other detectives who are actually human, and have all basic human emotions? Just a thought.
