The Way That Lovers Do.

(i’m on my period and feeling a bit sad, but i was on tik tok and saw this lovely video of this couple and they looked so in love while sitting at this table ^. it inspired me to get out of my writing slump) sorry if the story is a bit unorganized, i was struggling on what to write.

it was your second date with him. he was a very sweet guy. usually, people say that opposites attract and they do, but really we look for the similarities.

when you two talk to each other it was like gazing into a whole different world. for example, his career was totally different from yours, and the stories that he would tell you about his job would be shocking enough to make your jaw drop. he was so eager to talk while you were intent with listening. you had no problem with this, he even made to effort to listen to you (which is different from your ex’s).

he was a little shy and so we’re you, being that it was your second date with him, it’s expected to feel this way. yet, his nervousness only propelled him to go on nervous rambles and very detailed stories. and like mentioned before, you throughly enjoyed them.

6:45 pm

he pulls up to your house, you swear that time was moving quicker than it usually did. so when you hear the door bell ring, you’re rushing to fit things in your tiny bag, making sure you’ve got everything you needed. ‘gum, phone, lip gloss, perfume, keys, wallet,’ you quickly check off while rushing down the stairs. the sun was setting, leaving a nice warm glow around him when you opened your front door.

“hi.. hello” he repeats nervously as if you didn’t hear him the first time.

“hello” you smile back at him. he stares at you almost as if he’s in a daze, and you stare back reciprocating the same look. he looks very very good. his style is a tad bit different from yours, color wise. you guys both made the effort to dress up on your second date. A complete contrast from your first date where you guys were dressed down (because y’all painted in the park 🤭) .

“uh, you look very very beautiful,” he says as he reaches out for your hand. “thank you, you don’t look so bad yourself,” you smile again, looking him up and down, while giving him your hand. he smiles really hard and mumbles a thank you, while he closes your door.

when you guys reach the car, he opens the door for you like a princess, waving his hand in front in a way how chauffeurs (idek bro😭) do in fairytales. when you get inside you see him quickly walk to the drivers side and you try to reach over the console to open his door as well.

7:20 pm

upon arriving to the restaurant, you both walk in hand in hand. the smell of fresh bread and soft jazz giving you a warm welcome, the lights dimly lit and the evening sun helping light up the restaurant.

“this place is nice,” you say to him. “i’m glad you like it, i took some of my coworkers here a little while ago, it was nice and the food was good,” he replies. “they serve french cuisine here, so i figure that it would be romantic”. you smile at him and you can tell he starts to get nervous. “cause you know, like, France, heh.. Eiffel tower—,” you start to rub your thumb over his hand to calm him a little “i understand,” you laugh.

“so what did you try the last time you were here,” you ask, as you guys get settled in your seats.

“we’ll, this place is very well known for their soufflés, so last time i got the salmon and asparagus soufflé i believe.”

“hmm, i might try that”

9:05 pm

the night is going beautifully. after you both ate you decided to talk for a while. while you tell him about your drama at work, or the latest trend you saw on tick tok, he would be heavily engaged. he would keep deep eye contact with you and would have a through response and/or interesting opinions. Not only that but he was a good listener.

when you first met him, you were a bit thrown off by him. considering that you didn’t know him well enough, it was so easy to come up with assumption about him based on how he looked and what people around him said about him. but after your first date with him, you found yourself a lot more eager to learn about him, and so was he about you.

so when he starts to share his stories about his day, and he shows how he was listening to you by relating his stories to yours, or even brining up similar topics, you find yourself smiling at him (the wine isn’t helping either).

so as the night grew longer, and the conversations became deeper. you found that you guys are much alike. and although you guys are different in many ways, the main thing you have in common is you hope you guys can love each other the way that lovers do.

Izuku Midoriya was a quirkless child in a world of super heroes and villains. When his idol, the number one hero, tells him he can not become a hero without a quirk, he finally gives into his own demons, and jumps to take his own life. ok so some of the history lesson portion of this may be a little off, it's been a hot minute since i've done much research into this lol. but final haikyuu quest first appeared as a spread in one of the bonus pages in the manga! throughout the manga's run were occasionally drawings of the characters in little fake movie posters, one of them being an action/fantasy movie called final haikyuu quest:

this first poster and the original character designers are drawn by furudate! from there, it went on to become a mini bonus game in the haikyuu 3DS game, which is kind of crazy if you think about it too hard.

there's a playthrough uploaded on youtube here, but it's obv in japanese and i don't think there's been a translation of the game. there's a translation of part of it here on tumblr, but i don't think it's complete. poster from the 3DS game:

from there, it went on to be a CD drama (videos 8-10 on this youtube playlist, with subs), which is super neat. it's also one of the haikyuu light novels, but i have yet to find a full english translation of that.

i haven't read the novel or watched the videos with the CD drama audio myself, so i'm not sure how much it differs from the 3DS game. i assume they're pretty similar though.

so the premise at its most simple is that hinata and his party of adventurers are off to defeat the demon king oikawa and his henchmen! those are the basics.

the "canon" characters in hinata's party are hinata, kenma, aone, iwaizumi, and kageyama. on the opposing side we've got oikawa (the demon king), kuroo, and kiyoko. kiyoko has servants in the form of tanaka and nishionoya (they don't care for oikawa, they're just there for kiyoko). there's also michimiya, who is in the "fair princess kidnapped by oikawa" role that hinata & co. are trying to save. the full character profiles can be found here (everyone in game) and here (heroes only)!

now this whole premise is like. a little silly. the whole deal is a little silly. this is a volleyball manga.

with THAT being said, though, sometimes the most fun to be had is when you take the silly thing and make it devastating. and it's so easy to do that with FHQ. so let's talk abt iwaoi now <3

so in the story, oikawa is the demon king. because the premise is so simplistic and boiled down to good v. bad due to, like, this not being a real piece of media, oikawa is objectively on the "bad side." iwaizumi, on the other hand, is a knight, presumably human, and "oikawa's (former) friend."

iwaizumi being oikawa's former friend is literally his speciality and i think about that all the time btw. for context, kageyama's specialty is "prodigy" and hinata's is "strongest decoy." and fucking iwaizumi is out here like yea hey guys i used to be on the bad side but im mad at oikawa so now i'm with y'all. also my specialty in this fantasy universe is that i used to be oikawa's friend :)

like. what the hell. as you may imagine, the iwaoi angst potential here is ENORMOUS. iwaizumi who has betrayed oikawa and joined the heroes' side to take him down, iwaizumi whose greatest strength comes in knowing oikawa in and out, because the villains you love are both the hardest and the easiest to destroy. iwaizumi who loves oikawa, and who cannot save him.

(**side note, there's a lot of kuroken angst potential involved in this au as well, but let's focus on iwaoi for this post and save kuroken for another day)

so, as i said, the game's interpretation of all this is pretty simplistic and pretty silly. but personally i love thinking too hard and finding depth in things that are so not that deep. and it seems like most fhq fans also employ this as a favorite hobby because holy shit the angst people put in this au is INSANE.

the way i've interpreted it myself has been that iwaoi were besties/lovers/unclear situationship until oikawa kind of "fell into the dark side," because this is an au of every fantasy trope possible, and his reign over aoba became corrupted and "evil." iwaizumi betrays him to join hinata and take him down--save the world, at the cost of the demon he loved so much. but that demon, who oikawa was, is gone already, isn't he?

one of my favorite comics about them is here by @/ichigomaniac, where oikawa falls to the dark side and iwaizumi kills him to save the kingdom he loves. another FAVORITE similar one is here by @/hawberries! the premise of a lot of fics/art in this au run along these lines <3333

another super fun interpretation is a 5 part comic by @/duskisnigh, where oikawa and iwaizumi are running a kind of underground rebellion/safehouse in a world demons are oppressed by the human race. but as oikawa sees more and more evil on the behalf of humanity, he gets more and more unhinged until iwaizumi feels that he no longer knows him--and runs away with kageyama, with the intention of taking oikawa down.

personally i think the BEST aus are where iwaizumi--so loyal, so in love--is forced to leave because he can't stand to watch oikawa fall to more darkness, while oikawa himself is so devoted to iwaizumi that it's his love for iwaizumi that is corrupting him.....

in the fic i wrote, it's a story about forbidden love and how oikawa just wants to be allowed to love iwaizumi and he'll fight a war in order to do it. but iwaizumi can't watch oikawa fight this war anymore, because he's getting more and more dark as the war rages on. so he leaves, and was any of this ever worth it?

It was at the end of the night, a nice and warm Spring night. You could hear the faint sounds coming from the small shop you just left. 

“Would you look at that,” gazing at him, you could see a faint smile on his face as he turned to you. 

“What?” You wondered, following his gaze you looked up. You could see the white twinkling stars shining down at you. 

“Do you see those seven stars just there?” You followed where his finger pointed, trying as hard as you could, you couldn’t really see anything. It all seemed a blur to you. 

“To be honest with you, I can’t see it, all I can are the stars,” you expected him to get mad and drop whatever he was going to tell you. While gazing at the stars was something you enjoyed, you never were able to distinguish the different constellations. 

Going around behind you, you could feel the warmth of his chest. “Here,” holding your hand, he covered your hand, leaving just the pointer finger. With his hand he guided you to where he was looking before. “Those seven stars,” he tapped your finger gently as he pointed out each star. 

“That is the Corona Borealis,” he explained softly. “Legend has it that it was worn by Princess Ariadne at her wedding to Dionysus. Placing his hand down gently, he wrapped his arms around your waist. “She helped Theseus, the man who killed the minotaur, but he left her one night. She was crying when she first met Dionysus. He took one look at her and he fell in love.” 

“Just like that?” You asked. “He took one look at her and fell in love?” You lightly traced the pattern of the seven points again. It was smaller than the other constellations but it was there. You were finally happy to know that you can look up at the stars tomorrow night and find it. 

He gazed down at you but you couldn’t see, still too mesmerised by the stars and the story. Looking at your features that were softly lighted by the moon and the stars. “Yeah, he took one look at her and fell in love.” 

You hummed contentedly, unaware of the feeling that you’ve stirred up from the man behind you. “Tell me more,” you melted yourself to his chest. 

Pressing a soft kiss to the back of your head, he gently took your hand again. It’s an innocent and small touch but in that moment you saw yourself fifty years from now doing that exact same gesture.

It was tough, being in a relationship sometimes. While it was easy with him, how easy it was to love him, you hated the fights and the agony that came with it. 

“What are you doing?” Childishly tugging the blanket back to your side, you made a show of huffing when it didn’t move. 

He shrugged as if that gesture explained it to you. You called out his name, impatience laced in your tone. When he didn’t answer, you repeated his name. 

Turning to you, “What was it I told you when we first moved in?” 

“I don’t know,” you shrugged. Racking your brain, “Don’t leave empty cartons in the fridge?” 

“No,” he stated simply. “I told you that no matter what, no matter what we’re feeling or we’re going through, we are never, ever sleeping apart.” 

Now you remembered it. It was the first day you guys moved in together. You just finished cracking a bottle of wine to celebrate finally unpacking most of your things. Both of you sat around furniture made out of boxes, take-out in front of you. 

“I love you,” you were taken aback as you spluttered out the words, your story half-finished. You’ve heard it plenty of times before by the man sitting next to you. But there was something different in his eyes. 

“I just want to remember this,” it was uncharacteristic of him, this side being so open. He looked around and what he saw in front of him wasn’t just boxes, but boxes filled with both of your futures. Turning to you, he smiled, “Also I wanted you to remember this before we start putting the furniture together tomorrow.” 

You rolled your eyes, of course. It was an impending doom, the ultimate test of relationships; putting furniture together. “You’re an idiot.” 

Nudging your shoulder with his, “Promise me this.” Turning to him, you raised your brows. “Promise me that no matter how mad we get at each tomorrow, or in the future, you won’t sleep in another bed that isn’t ours.” 

“You’re an idiot,” you echoed your words from before. It was true but you were grateful for him. 

“Yeah, but I’m your best friend,” without looking at you, “and you’re my best friend, so shut it, go to sleep and we can continue fighting tomorrow.” 

“Fine, but I hope you know I’m winning,” you commented. 

“You’re an idiot,” a pause, then you felt his arms wrap around your waist. “I love you.” 

“I love you too.”

No pressure to answer but you're a really good writer so I figured I'd ask for advice.

I have trouble writing properly "evil" characters. And for a thing I want to write and flesh out I need an evil person who is nevertheless a good parent who loves their aon and I'm having trouble properly balancing that.

Do you have any advice or reference I could use?

I love that you're considering creating such a nuanced character. It can be easy to drop a villain into a story who never gets any sort of background or clear motivations.

Most "evil" characters think they're good people. What defines them as "evil" in a story isn't who they are, it's how their actions affect the interests of the protagonist. I think the MOST important thing to do before starting on a villain is to understand your protagonist.

Is your protagonist very moral? If they saw abuse in a grocery store, would they directly step in? Or call security? Or do they need a personal stake in the matter to take action?

What does your protagonist WANT? Is their goal an object? is it to save a friend? Or maybe it's to protect themselves?

Now what's the FASTEST way your antagonist can get in the way of that? That's going to be your villain's motivation and what you need to keep in mind.

now onto the parenting bit!

Is your villain doing the bad thing to BE a good parent? (ie ritual sacrifice to cure their sick child) Or is your villain's agenda separate from their parental duties?

Since you mentioned that you're having trouble balancing that, I'm going to assume that it's the latter and your villain is doing bad things sometimes and is being a good parent others.

(I'm sorry this is getting long, it's such an interesting question!)

What's a good parent? Unconditional love is definitely part of that, imo, and you mention that they love their child. But what does love mean to them? Is it providing a safe home? is it forgiving them all wrongs? Is it fair discipline?

Pick one thing. That's going to be your villain's parent motivation. "Provide a safe home."

Say that your villain wants to blow up the city the hero lives in. That's the villain's motivation. "i'm going to blow up the city." They've got bad history with that city and so they just want to wipe it off the map. Their villain agenda has nothing to do with their child. The protagonist has no way to know that they're a loving parent unless they can see it. So now you have to involve the child in the altercation to show both sides of the villain.

The hero shows up at the villain's lair with an army.

"Stop," the hero cries with their friends behind them. "Don't blow up my city!"

The villain, rather than laughing at the hero as they usually do, is uncharacteristically panicked. They divert the hero and company with an (uncharacteristically) non-lethal light show. The hero battles through their disorientation and manages to get close to the villain. Just as they're about to strike, they hear the villain talking quickly.

"--to Aunt Jane's house," the villain is saying. The hero can't make them out clearly, but they know the villain is crouched near a door. There's a second figure in the doorway. "Okay? We talked about this. Tell Aunt Jane the word apple pie."

"that's two words," a small, young voice says.

"That's right," the villain says in a thin voice. "You're so smart! That's why I know you can do it. Go on. I--I or Aunt Jane will pick you up from school."

"Me too." The villain kisses their offspring on the forehead. "Go."

The hero blinks stupidly as the villain turns. "You have a kid?"

"I was hoping you'd be in the city when my laser activated," the villain says. Any softness they'd had is gone, replaced with the familiar sneer. "Looks like you're here for a sample."

The fight moves on from that point.

Villain Motivation: "Blow up the city."

Parent motivation: "Provide a safe home."

Both motivations are satisfied in the above scene and both are shown to the protagonist. How the protagonist responds depends on their character!

Basically, my advice is to treat the antagonist as two separate people. One, is as the villain. The villain has an impact on the story. Their goal directly opposes the protagonist and the protagonist is driven to stop them.

The other is as a parent. IMO, treat this role as an NPC with cut scenes. They love their child, but it doesn't divert the plot. You need to SHOW the cut scene (in the example above, the instructions to go to Aunt Jane's) but it doesn't stop or influence the battle.

It's helpful to remember that being a good parent is a good quality but not necessarily a redeeming trait, if that makes sense. The protagonist can admire it, for sure, but they can't let the antagonist get away with their evil deeds because of it.

Hopefullly this helps a little! Or at the very least is coherent, lol.

Hero Who I Can’t See

You took Mai's arm and walked to where she took you. She warned you before you entered the hall she mentioned

“Watch out, there is a step in front of you”

You heeded her warning. She took your hand to take the step in front of her and made you climb

You took Mai's arm again. You realized that you entered the volleyball training hall from the ball and squeaking sounds you heard around you.

“More power to you,guys!” he called to the volleyball team of Dateko, who was training.

“We have a guest today. Her name is y/n. Our families have camaraderie. We are childhood friends. We hadn't seen each other in a while, so I wanted to introduce you while she was here.”

While some of the men in the hall were fascinated by your beauty, others found your blank stares very strange. But you were not aware of any of this.

Mai released your arm. You couldn't walk around the hall, but as you could tell from the voices, the people Mai wanted to introduce you to were just a few steps away.

Seeing you walking with outstretched hands to look around, Kamasaki and Futakuchi were whispering among themselves.

"Can't she see?" he whispered softly to Kamasaki

"Didn't you notice she took Mai's arm on the way here?" Kamasaki replied in the same way.

As you walked, you suddenly felt like you had bumped into something as hard as a wall. But two strong hands held your shoulders.

“Oh!! Well…sorry” you said with a embarrassed expression

Everyone in the hall noticed Aone's surprised look at you.

"You're lucky he didn't see you, Aone," laughed Futakuchi from behind

Aone glared at Futakuchi. That was enough for Futakuchi to stop babbling.

You could recognize who the other person was by their voice and by touching their face. You raised your arms and your palms touched Aone's face. The tips of his thumb were touching Aone's forehead.

“Where are your eyebrows?” you chuckled

Everyone in the room started laughing. You ran your hands over every inch of Aone's face so you could memorize her features. Now you've written it in your mind.

Then you took a step back and talked about yourself

“I want to meet all of you. But unfortunately I can't see it. I lost my sight completely due to trachoma disease as a child. But I can get to know you better by touching your face.”

“It's an honor to meet you y/n-san,” Moniwa replied.

You met everyone by touching their faces one by one and wrote down their facial features in your memory.

Everyone was pleased to meet you. They also did not see the visual disability as an obstacle in their relationship with you. But you were supposed to be under the supervision of someone in the hall. If the thrown ball came in your direction, you wouldn't notice it.

That's why Mai sat next to you. If the ball came towards you, he would watch over you.

Although Moniwa also warned them, Kamasaki and Futakuchi did not pay much attention to the warning. The ball hit you from the first day you met. The ball moved so fast that no one, including Mai, could prevent the ball from hitting your head.

You were hurt, and you held your head with your hand.

Mai approached you and looked where the ball came from.

"Are you ok? Did it hurt?"

Mai asked Aone, who was standing near

“Aone, could you get ice?”

Aone nodded and brought ice from the freezer in the living room. You heard their steps coming towards you and extended your hand to take the ice.

You were extending your hand in a completely different direction and you were not aware of it. Aone gently placed the ice in your palms. You felt the coldness of the ice in your palms and you took it and put it where the ball hit

"Are you ok?" asked Aone.

You heard your voice for the first time

You answered briefly, “Yes”

Moniwa also came close and apologized to you on their behalf.

“You don't mind them, y/n-chan. Unfortunately, they don't listen to reason."

"No problem. I'm sorry, Moniwa-kun, for causing you trouble."

“Oh no way! You are our guest” he said politely and generously.

At the end of the training, Mai escorted you home. You took the subway together

"How was it? Did you have some fun?" he asked you

"A lot. Even though I couldn't see what was going on around me, I still had a great time. Everyone on your team is so kind.”

“I think you're excluding Futakuchi and Kamasaki from that. Because they never sit still and their disputes never ends,” he laughed.

"Why?" you asked curiously

"I don't know. But I can say this much, if Futakuchi doesn't mess with Kamasaki, Kamasaki has nothing to do with Futakuchi."

“Usually Futakuchi initates it”

"Unfortunately. Their friction became the cliché of the team. Aone is also in the position of a fight separator”

You kept saying “Aone…” and then continued.

“This guy…he doesn't talk much, I guess. Because when I met him, he didn't say a word"

"Yes. He doesn't like to talk much. He talks whenever he feels like. That's why he surprises his teammates when he talks. But he is very kind. Although he looks like a scary bully from the outside”

"How? Does he look so scary?”

“He has a stern and serious look. Those who see him for the first time are literally sweating out of fear. But it is not at all what it seems.”

In order not to be a burden to Mai and everyone who has accompanied you to find directions, you started using the visually impaired cane. Now you could find your direction more easily

That evening you got off the subway alone. You missed the first train and waited for the second. The area was extremely quiet. You could have been the only person on the subway. Or so you thought. You were always afraid of being alone in any place. Because when you were alone, you couldn't take care of yourself like normal people. Visual impairment was the biggest factor in this

You felt someone approaching you.

“Hey beauty! What about play blind man's buff with us?”

“No need to blindfold”

It was the voice of two young men, and it was clear that it belonged to strangers you hadn't heard before. You were getting scared and now you'd rather be alone on the subway

"Who are you! Go away or I'll call the police!”

“Oh really! In your blind state?" they laughed

“We just wanted to play a little. What were you mean?"

“I told you to get out!”

You tried to swing your cane in self-defense. But the abusers weren't at the point where you swung. Trying to attack them with your blindness had become fun for them and they started to come more and more.

“I think we will play with a real blind person”

“It will be funny”

"Don't touch me!" As you went back, your back hit someone's chest and you almost had a heart attack from fear.

But the abusers were idolized where they were.

"Dude, if we don't get out of here soon, this guy will run over us"

“Look at him! He’s like a giant”

You didn't know who the person behind you was. You thought you were cornered but that person was your savior

“Leave the lady alone!” You heard a solemn and menacing voice that sounded familiar to you.

But you couldn't make it out and couldn't remember the sound

Who are you? you said inside

“Get lost!”

You heard the harassers running away when the familiar voice gave a menacing command for the second time.

You had calmed down a bit and wanted to know who the savior was.

"Are you ok?"

You are one step closer to recognizing the voice when it asks you in the same tone and the same way

"Who are you?" you asked

“Y/n, it's Aone. Didn't you recognize my voice?"

"No. Sorry. We haven't been able to chat much with you. That's why I couldn't make a sound. If you let me touch your face, I can be convinced that you really are Aone"

Aone let you touch his face. You touched his facial features again, which you wrote in your memory. When you felt with your hand that he had no eyebrows, you were absolutely sure that it was Aone.

“It’s really you, Aone. Thank you. Really. You’re so nice person”

You touched his shoulders and lowered your hands down to his arms

You repeated "thank you so much"

"I am pleased that you are well. They didn't hurt you, did they?" asked Aone.

Hiiiiii! I just want you to know that as a fellow day defender, I totally agree with you about your opinion of night and day’s situation. People keep saying that day is a bad guy since he treated night like that without knowing the reason behind it. I read the novel btw and thought that if I’m in day’s shoes, I’d probably be acting the same way as day. He just needs time to heal and I totally understand that. I hope people can consider day’s feelings too, not just night’s.

first of all, i wanted to thank you for not giving away any spoilers even if you've already read the novel!!!!! i don't take that for granted because not everyone is so considerate, so i really appreciate it!!!!!

about night and day's situation, im so incredibly glad that you agree with my thoughts on it!!!!! maybe it's because i feel very protective of day as a character, but it's been pretty hard to see him bear the brunt of people's criticism, first with the whole mork vs august affair and now with night. i know it's natural to sympathize with night because we don't have an explanation for day's behavior yet, and regardless of what happened it will never be an excuse for lashing out like that, but at the same time it's kinda upsetting to have day's feelings being constantly dismissed. like being in night's presence makes day feel SO BAD that one time he was literally willing to step in the middle of the street without being able to see rather than staying in the same space as night, and another time he was ready to give up attending aon's wedding (which he really cares about) and would have gone back to isolate himself from the world if it wasn't for mork, and i just think this should be taken into account a little bit more

i also think it's not a matter of who's right or who's wrong, because unlike what night said there are actually no villains and no heroes here. the narrative isn't pushing the audience to side with a character or another, on the contrary it's trying to make the viewers understand both points of view: night's attempts to be a good brother and reconnect with day are commendable and it's indeed both very sad and very frustrating to see day constantly reject them so cruelly, but day has only now started to accept his disability after an entire year of isolation where he was made feel like he could no longer take care of himself and live a fulfilling life, and like you said i think he should be allowed the time to heal (and eventually to forgive night, if he is actually involved in the accident that made day lose his sight)

in the end they're both just two boys with a lot of misunderstandings and unspoken feelings between them who are trying to do their best and i think it's unfair to pit them against each other

The thing that gets me most about I Will Knock You (apart from Thi being so embarrassingly relatable) is the way Noey sees Thi.

To us, Thi's this introverted pushover who's endlessly scared and/or frustrated by Noey (even as he's slowly falling in love).

But to Noey, everything Thi does is tinted by his obsession with old movies. Thi really is the one he's been waiting for: his perfect "heroine". We've seen him court other girls before and every single one of them has rejected him (they seem to like him from afar for his dangerous vibe but once they get to know him they're put off).

But everything Thi has been doing since they first met is seemingly perfect if you don't see Thi the pushover (the audience's POV) but Thi the classical romantic heroine (Noey's POV):

He steps on Noey's "heart" and then steals it/won't give it back: it's destiny! He gives him a little trinket to distract him: it's a token of love! He almost drowns (lmao) in shallow water: it's a ploy to get closer! He faints in his arms and gets scared in the temple: isn't it so romantic! He almost always avoids his gaze and tries to appease him: he's bashful and flirty! He's clumsy and helpless: he must be protected! They keep running into each other: obviously Thi seeks Noey out on purpose! He's the only one who likes his food! He's the only one who likes his style (apart from the rest of the gang)! Thi won't back down when it counts: he must want to impress Noey! He must want to be close to him - that's the only reason he'd ever want to tutor him, right? And when he disapproves of him going after Pam, it's really because he's jealous (ok so he's actually not wrong this time)!

Of course Noey is smitten! How could he not be? Thi really is the perfect Wanlapa, the perfect Jomnien, Jarunee and Taeng-Aon* (all famous female idols - either fictional or real, but all from the era Noey is obsessed with). When Noey uses these names with Thi, I don't think it's because he wants to belittle him. They're cute pet names. Something he would use with girls like Pam if they showed any interest. He also uses "ter" with Thi (a polite and intimate and often romantic form of address/pronoun usually not used between random people) - because if Thi is the heroine then he has to be the perfect (rugged) hero.

(*Taeng-Aon is the most recent addition but I assume it fits right in with the other names.)

Does this mean Noey is in love with Thi? At this point, I think it's exactly as he says: he (thinks he) knows that Thi is trying to catch his eye. He's flattered and he's interested but he's not in love (yet).

But he's also not just indulging Thi. Most Some of what he's doing (the whole ice cream thing, finding him a helmet to keep, hugging him at night in the temple, the many, many times he's touching Thi's face/hair) actively counts as courting - and it's kind of funny how that's exactly why Thi is falling in love with him.

All of the girls are attracted to Noey from afar but are scared off once he shows interest. With Thi it's the other way around.
