My deepest sympathy for my AP Lit class that has to hear me connect every topic we cover back to the Epic of Gilgamesh. In my defense, it's a beautiful representation of human nature through the ages.

New Google acquired!
Hey you know how a computer works with codes that tell the machine what to do. But I've been thinking, if the code means something, what happened to that exactly code to mean that? Like who told some combinations may mean something or another? It makes no sense in my mind
-🦐
New Google acquired, huh? Well, since you asked sooo nicely:
You’re right in a way—code does mean something to a machine, but that “meaning” isn’t innate. A computer is just a glorified rock that we taught to flip tiny electrical switches really, really fast. It doesn’t “understand” anything. It just responds to structured voltage changes.
The reason 00110101 might trigger a certain behavior is because humans designed a set of rules—a language, really—where certain patterns map to specific functions. Think of it like this:
We built the machine. We built the code. We built the translation table. And then we taught the machine how to follow that table, like a trained dog.
Why does “print(‘Hello World’)” mean “show this phrase on the screen”?
Because the compiler knows how to translate human-readable code into machine instructions, and those instructions were written to control output behavior.
It's like asking: “Who decided the word ‘tree’ means tree?” Answer: No one. And everyone. Language is made-up. So is code. But when everyone agrees on the rules, the illusion becomes functional.
So yeah.
Computers run on layered nonsense stacked high enough that it starts making sense.
Welcome to the internet.

how to study for social studies subjects
I’d like to think that one of my strongest focuses is social studies. I love learning about history, economics, government, e.t.c. and I do well on tests! I thought that most people had it easy when it came to these subjects, but throughout working with peers and friends, I realized that wasn’t true, so here are some tips to get through those subjects:
Memorizing will be your friend: This is one of my biggest tips that I still use for my social studies subjects. Memorize, memorize, memorize! Of course, you should first understand a concept or term before memorizing it, but it helps so much to know words. I use quizlet and knowt.io to help me memorize, but you can use a variety of ways to remember. This is especially helpful for tests, as you can help fill in the blank when reading through questions and other readings.
Trick your brain: One of the reasons I was so good at social studies subjects was because I was interested in politics and government. I’m really interested in the controversial aspect of politics, which helped me understand forms and branches of government, how the economy works, e.t.c. I’ve recently heard this tip on the internet, where people trick their brain into thinking that the subject they are learning is like lore for a tv show or novel, and it worked. Your brain will probably be more likely to learn if you make it enjoyable.
Use a variety of resources: A lot of social studies subjects will have more interesting and engaging resources to use, rather than like physics with a boring textbook and some reference videos. Topics like politics will have a wide variety of books, articles, news reports, movies, and even TV shows covering them. After understanding the concepts and things you may need to know, watching a political TV show can be a form of studying! You can learn to apply, discuss, and critique different forms and resources to apply to the thing you are studying.
Find ways to connect to the modern world: Social studies subjects are one of the easiest to connect to the media and the news; you will often find articles and reporters speaking about the economy, what's going on in the supreme court, and who is voting or pushing for what agenda. If you ever need to find examples to help you learn and study, just watch the news! It’s a great resource, and can help you apply what you are learning to the real world. Oftentimes, test-makers will give a question set in a scenario, where a country is going into a recession and you may have to explain ways to solve or help it e.t.c. so the news is a great resource to see it real time.

TMNT OC x Canon - First Impressions
Okay. You’re going to have to bear with Donnie here. When he inexplicably ended up in another dimension, having apparently spent blurry months helping an unfamiliar teenager try and revive her little brother from a curse-induced coma, one of the last things he expected was for said brother to get kidnapped out the window by some strange girl.
Clinging to the above-door handles while Claire (aforementioned teen) nearly crashed into every roadside object was not doing favors for his nerves, and he was a man of forty-five who had made a habit of… permanently disposing of people now and then. The vigilante believed nothing could scare him, until he met Claire’s driving abilities.
“I don’t understand,” Donnie hissed at the holographic screen above his wrist, squinting as he finally stepped out of the vehicle. “He should be right here—he’s practically on top of us.” There was that mild sense of panic, maybe the tracker was removed, maybe someone intercepted the signal. Nothing wrong with his tech, of course. That didn’t happen. “Firo?” he called anyway, discarding any sense of stealth in his search for the child. What was that woman’s name again? Someone mentioned it. Catherine, Katrina…? Oh, right. “Catarina? I’m told you have someone we’re looking for.”
Beside him, the car door slammed with the fury of a thousand suns. “FIRO!?”
“Claire, he’s around,” assured Donnie calmly, because if he wasn’t then nobody was going to be and panic just leads people to terrible places. Like conclusions. “Very, very close, actually. I just have no idea how I’m getting this signal…” He squinted again at the GPS on his wrist just before a voice caught his attention, and he quickly glanced up.
Leaning precariously over the edge, grinning at the two with the child in her arms, was Catarina. “Donatello! Up here!”
With wild eyes, Donnie gaped. “What the—how did you get up there?? Nevermind. Hey, Catarina, wanna hand that little kid back to us?” Donnie squinted, recognizing Firo in the woman’s arms. Then his jaw dropped. “Good Galileo—Claire, he’s awake!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, Cat needs a second to explain herself.
Being an experiment of Draxum’s for decades, she knew when someone was in a lab setting against their will.
And that boy was nothing if not there against his will.
So, what can she say? She panicked, unhooked all the IVs and monitors (which set off at least fourteen different alarms), grabbed him, and fled. She’d try to find his parents. Or just someone who could care for the kid. Though, maybe running with a toddler who was just waking up from an apparently incredibly deep sleep was not the best move. And as she lounged on the rooftops of the undestroyed New York, the toddler in her lap giggling and reaching for the little sparks of ninpo floating above them, showers from the tiny flarelike–the kid would describe them as ‘fireworks’--bursts Cat was sending up into the air, purely to dazzle and distract the tiny human, she felt a little bit of uncertainty, that icy feeling prickling at the back of her throat. She was alone, in a different universe, with some strange kid she was now responsible for. A kid who had some reason for being confined, asleep, in a laboratory. It was relieving to know he was awake and seemingly fine.
It ended up working out, because she did find a trusted peer! Only because of the sound of screeching tires, a slamming car door, and an enraged shout, followed by--oh, her luck!!
Who better to care for a child Cat had recently rescued from a lab than Professor Donatello himself?
Yeah, okay, he wasn’t her universe's Donnie. Her Donnie was… well…
But it didn’t matter! Because this was a Donnie and a Donnie would know what to do! So Cat called out for him, even felt excited to see a familiar face. The girl with him looked almost exactly like Firo, which she’d come to learn was the name of the kid she’d just grabbed. Good! Family! For whatever reason, though, they both seemed… not happy to see her. It didn’t take much for her to piece together what was going on. “I’ll bring him back down!”
So maybe this new, weirdly cowboy-like Donnie thought Cat was a kidnapper and had been fully prepared to maybe almost blow her head off to get the child back. First impressions aren’t always great.
And as she climbed down and delivered Firo back into his sister’s arms, her eyes briefly darting over to the man who looked so familiar, she didn’t know how right she’d be.
