you can't understand just how compelling i find achilles' spiraling in the iliad even before patroclus dies. he's not just sitting in his tent pouting and unchanging, he's so dedicated to his own bitterness and hurt he's making himself mentally deteriorate to the point where he's making demands that have already been offered (wishing agamemnon would just offer briseis back, with gifts, which happened six books prior) and losing himself in post-apocalyptic fantasies. ooh book 15 achilles is doing sooo bad mentally and shows how desperately something needs to change (and it will very shortly with patroclus' death)

if you can't handle achilles at his "i can't wait until every trojan and achaean are dead and it's just you and me, patroclus" you don't deserve him at his aristos achaion

It's honestly impressive how badly the Russos have already fucked up the Avengers' characterization (yet again) and got the fandom to turn on each other like a pack of rabid dogs.

The whole "suing over the Avengers name" thing is so stupid and contrived and the more sambucky-divorce-era discourse I have to slog through every time I venture into the tags the more annoyed I get. As if Sam or Bucky (or even the other Avengers except maybe Alexei) would give a shit what their teams were called. Why would they have any attachment to that name? The previous Avengers were barely a team in the first place. Half of them tried to arrest the other half and forced them to go on the run!

All Sam and Bucky care about is helping people. They wouldn't buy into the Avengers name propaganda and neither should you.

So when Jason is adopted he got these big oll eyes because

Yes Leviathans are mostly solitary mers! And they’re largely a myth, too! So that’s why none of the bats clocked Jason as an abyssal mer. Much less a leviathan!

They don’t usually abandon their young at this age though, so something had to happen for Jason to be on his own. Especially so far away from the deep waters.

But Jason’s never seen a mer take care of offspring that aren’t their own. Much less form an entire school of non related mers that neither fight for dominance, nor for food. They even forgo their own meal to feed him.

And Bruce fights tooth and claw to protect the group! So does Dick! And they don’t even try to use Jason as bait even though he’s still small and new and not related to any of them!

So, a novel experience all around. Especially because these strange mer are super small in comparison to what Jason is used to. And super squishy. They get scratches from pointy rocks, for crying out loud. It kinda scares him how vulnerable they are. But he knows he’ll grow up big, so he’ll repay their kindness eventually.

For now he’s content to stay wrapped around Bruce’s tail, safe and protected. 🌊💚
