Trying to slowly work my way through asks since my brain is being slow and spicy. Also trying to get a 7 day streak on Duolingo learning German. I've gotten through quite a few lessons, but I don't have anyone to practice it with. I'd like to become, if not fluent, at least conversational.

I went to Germany my senior year of high school and I loved it. I loved being able to thank the locals and understand some of the things they were saying. I loved looking at the signs and knowing what it meant. It was so satisfying. I felt great. However, in my personal life I don't have anyone that wants to learn because they don't think they can do the sounds, because the only time most Americans hear German is when its aggressive and loud and in a war movie. To me German can be harsh, but it can also be really beautiful. Like, what other language is going to call a bat a flutter mouse?

Why do you need your earbuds to have a wire so badly?

I am assuming this is about a post I reblogged like six months ago when I went off on forced technological enshitification and the slow erosion of consumer options. But sure, I'll bite.

Why do I "need" my earbuds to have a wire? I dunno, Anon, maybe I:

Don't want to have to worry about recharging my earbuds.

Don't want my earbuds to be even easier to lose.

Don't want my earbuds to need separate accessories that are as easy to lose as the earbuds.

Prefer to have bluetooth turned off on my devices for security and safety reasons.

Like being able to seamlessly plug my earbuds into my computer, my MP3 player, or any other device with a headphone jack.

Don't want to spend 50 dollars on decent wireless earbuds when I can do all the above things with a pair of solid earbuds that cost me like $12 during the Obama administration.

Don't care about what kinds of headphones or earbuds people wear but don't like what it says about our society when other people apparently care what kind of earbuds I'm wearing so much they have send an Anonymous ask to interrogate me about it.

And I guess, more abstractly, because fuck Apple. That's why.

I forgot how lonely it is to write original fiction.

Where are the kudos? The subscriptions? The comments? The people cheerleading me chapter to chapter? Where are the kind words and compliments and reassurances that what I'm writing isn't complete crap? Where are the unhinged emojis? The asks on Tumblr? Where are my mutuals in my dms apologizing for not reading the latest chapter right away (side note, you know you don't have to apologize at all, right??). Where is the fanart? Where are the recs?

Where is my motivation to keep going?

It's something I've been thinking about a lot, actually, lately. How the experience of writing fanfic is so unique. How you already have an audience, willing and waiting and captive. And that's really it, isn't it? You have an audience. It's almost performative, writing fanfic. It's being on a stage, a one-person show (or two, if you do it with a friend); it's getting live reactions to your performance, it's feeding off the energy of the crowd and informing it back in a feedback loop; it's improvised, sometimes, in almost-real-time. It's building something that you couldn't have built by yourself. A thing that takes on a life of its own.

It's an experience you can't get writing original fiction, and, honestly, not having it is making it hard to write something original at all.

when bakugou works out, he usually has earphones in. he likes to listen to music, usually, because people are irritating. but sometimes when he knows you’re likely to be free, just doing chores or running errands or lounging around, he calls you.

“hey katsuki,” you say. he won’t ever tell you, but he likes the way you say his name. he likes the feeling he gets hearing the warmth in your voice. only for him.

“hey,” he says back.

you never need prompting to begin chatting away. he does his cardio, weightlifting, to the sound of your voice in his ears. he turns the volume up because he’d rather hear you talk about your day, your dumb coworkers, what you’re planning on having for dinner, than listen to the ambient sounds of a gym, or worse—other people trying to talk to him.

(and maybe you look forward to these calls of his. maybe you enjoy the sounds of his exertion—the grunts, the heavy breathing. they remind you of… another type of exercise.)
