Mods, Kisses, and Patch 4!

I posted this up on Mod Fixer's page on the Nexus...but I'll share it here as well!

Hi everybody! I'm just going to add what I did to get my mods working (and kisses!)(and Astarion kisses!)(no, Astarion's voice lines are still bugged - that's a Larian issue.). I can't say it will work for you. But it worked for me. 

1 - I don't use script extender...so if you use it, sorry I can't help you.  2 - I use BG3 Mod Manager...so if you use Vortex...I'm not sure I can help you.  3 - I don't use any mods that change classes/skills or add classes/skills. I only use mods that add things like hair and faces and armor to the game.  4 - Yes, I use Basket Full of Equipment. 

Ok...with that...what I did...

1 - Disable all mods. Move them to the right window in BG3MM. Leave Improved UI and ModFixer enabled on the bottom left of BG3MM. (The only way I could get my game to load at all with my mods disabled is to keep these two active).  2 - Export new version of load order from BG3MM (if you use BG3MM you should know what this means.) 3 - Load game. You will have all sorts of missing mod errors. But hopefully it will load.  4 - Save game. Exit game.  5 - Load game. No more errors because you've created a "clean" save. Your kisses should hopefully be working! If they are...YAY! Move to next step.  6 - Save game. Exit game. 7 - Start adding mods back in, moving them back to the active pane...but only add a couple at a time. 8 - Export new version of load order from BG3MM. 9 - Load game. Check to see if kisses still work. 

At this point, it's basically trial and error. I was able to get all of my mods working again after creating a "clean" save and essentially starting over with mods. That includes Basket Full of Equipment! And I didn't have to unpack anything. 

Like I said, I don't know if this will work for you...but it worked for me...so it's worth a shot! I have these mods enabled and it's working...

“Can we talk?” you said, standing in front of Astarion at the campfire. 

His face fell and worry settled in his stomach, “Of course.” he said as you two walked to your tent. 

“Is something wrong? Did I do something?” he fumbled.

You felt bad making him worry, but this was something that needed to be discussed in private. “Everything is fine my love, you haven’t done anything wrong.” you held his hand.

His eyes watched you intently, trying to figure out what could be going on. You had been together for a while, what could have changed? 

“I wanted to ask you something… I just wanted to establish what exactly you are comfortable with so I don’t cross any of your boundaries.” you played with your fingernails, feeling embarrassed despite there being no need. 

Astarion held your face, kissing you softly and pulling you close. He smiled at you brightly, “And here I was worried something was wrong.”

“Nothing is wrong with you near.” you kissed his cheek.

“Well… to begin… what are you comfortable with?” he asked you, holding your hands, moving to sit you both down on his bed roll. 

“Anything as long as it’s you.” you said confidently. 

He looked at you, shocked and confused. “Truly?” he asked.

You nodded your head smiling at him, “I know you love me, I know you’d never want to hurt me…” 

“Never.” he said, quickly kissing your knuckles.

“I know that if I don’t like something you’ll stop. So, yes, anything. As long as it’s you.” 

Astarion looked into your eyes, nothing but love was reflected in them. You trusted him with you. Your body, your mind, your soul. Everything was his for the taking, nothing asked in return except for knowing he loved you too. Astarion wanted your body, he just didn’t exactly know how. How to love, not just fuck. He dropped his hands to the laces on the front of your shift, pulling them loose gently. He looked at you, waiting for you to stop him. His hands were shaking, he felt like a clumsy virgin. 

You took his hands in yours, “Darling, you don’t have to do that. I didn’t talk to you about this to guilt you into sex. I talked to you so I can make you feel comfortable and safe, always.” 

“I… do want to.” he paused, searching for the right words. “I just… don’t know how. Sex has always been… a duty. Something I was forced into. I don’t know the difference between fucking and loving.” he felt so disappointed in himself, so stupid.

“Can I show you?” you asked him softly.

Astarion watched you with big eyes, feeling immensely vulnerable. He nodded, whispering, “Yes.”

You slid your shift off. You stood before him completely exposed. You took one of his hands, holding it tightly. “Do you want to touch me?” you asked.

“May I?” he flicked his eyes to yours. 

You nodded, smiling at him. Astarion’s shaking hands went to your face, he held you close to him bringing you into a sweet kiss. Your hands rested on his chest. You felt his hands slide down your shoulders, hips, down to your ass where he groped clumsily.

You chuckled slightly, pulling away, playing with the curls at the base of his neck.

“What?” he mumbled.

“You look different.”

“What do you mean?” he said, running his hands curiously up your waist. Fingers ghosting over the sides of your breasts. 

You hummed at the sensation of him touching you, body alight with want. “You look curious, like you’ve never been with me.”

“This is different from the clearing…” he said, a bit of hurt flashing across his eyes. As much as you reassured him that you understand why he did that, a part of him would never forgive himself. He used your body for his own gain, caused you the same pain he had felt for years. 

You could see him drifting, “That’s not you. This… this is you.” you said holding his hand over your heart while you held yours to his. 

Astarion nodded repeatedly before taking his own shirt off. He looked flawless in the moonlight cascading on his skin from the gap in the tent flap. You waited for him to touch you. He took your hand, pulling you into his lap as he sat on his bedroll. He pulled your hips down so you were sitting on him completely. He kissed your neck and chest repeatedly before taking a nipple into his mouth. Your breath caught in your throat as he fondled your other breast. You could feel him beneath you, getting more excited by the second.

“You can touch me too…” Astarion said briefly before switching to your other nipple, ensuring they both got the same delicious treatment. He nipped at you gently, causing you to let out a groan. 

You felt him all over, his touch rilling you up even more. Astarion bucked his hips up slightly. You both pulled away, equally surprised by the action. “I… umm… do you… we could…” Astarion stumbled over himself. You had never seen him so… him. His sultry, seductive self was nowhere to be seen. “Do you want to have sex?” you asked him, smoothing your thumbs over his face. 

Astarion nodded quickly which made you laugh, “Show me what you like.” you said kissing his cheek.

Astarion shifted slightly, pulling his pants off so you were both bare. He led your hand between his thighs, gasping when you softly started tugging him off. His head fell back, he gripped your thighs tightly. You went on for a minute before he pulled your hand away, breathing heavy. He moved his cock between your folds, both of you moaning at the feeling. He slipped himself inside, groaning loudly at the sensations. He felt positively euphoric, focusing on his own pleasure. You gently started riding him, searching his face for anything that indicated he was uncomfortable. He was letting out the sweetest noises as you picked up speed. Astarion kissed up your chest, laying you down with him. He laid on his back and looked at the ceiling. Worry crossed your face, “Are you alright?” your voice wavered. 

Astarion smiled at you, “Heavenly… positively heavenly.” His eyes were hazy. He kissed over your face leaving butterfly kisses everywhere. You both laid in the afterglow, whispering words of love and affirmation to one another. 

“What?” you could see a question resting on his face. He waved you off dismissively, embarrassed with his question. You insisted, “Pleaseeeeee?” 

Astarion chuckled before pulling you into a kiss, “Can we do it again?” 

You laughed, rolling him on top of you “Of course.”

Patch 4 Astarion Kiss... ugh.

The kiss went from "Okay sure it's short but it's still sweet" to somehow turning into "Ew, why do I feel I've turned into your grandmother?" Or "Why are you kissing me like we've been married for twenty-eight years and we barely tolerate one another?"

Sadly the new kiss isn't even working at all in my game. He just goes all quiet and gives Anna this panicked look, like he's about to start running for the hills, and the scene ends. No kiss and I'm left feeling a little more than just a touch rejected instead. It's bad enough he started making this an "Ew" face during patch three after giving out a kiss and breaking the fourth wall too. Ouch... at my wit's end here. What's left of my old, brittle, and salty heart can no longer take any more abuse, Larian.

I don't know what's causing this. I don't heavily mod my game. A few hairstyles, some extra dye options, and that basket of gear. So I'm not sure which one is the problem. Praying for a hotfix soon as I go through my mods to try and figure out which one is the culprit.

From what I've seen of him kissing others on YouTube, to be brutally honest, I never thought watching Astarion kiss would be such a turn-off. Sure he's struggling with intimacy but there are better ways to show that he needs something more gentle or restrained.

For starters slow down the whole moment when it comes to ALL of the companions' kissing animations. Trust me Larian, if we're asking for affection from our love interests we're NOT in a hurry. Slowing down the action during a kiss scene, as if they were moving through water, is a classic filming tactic to make things more intense.

For Astarion why not have him draw in slowly with a shy or small smile and soft gaze. Have him lean in perhaps embrace the player character about the waist while his forehead comes to rest against theirs. His eyes close, and his nose bumps and brushes his lover's for a few moments. Maybe our character can then caress his cheek and jaw as they wait for him to press his lips to theirs. Three soft and slow pecks minimum and then go back to nose nuzzling. Then finally, with a happy sigh and a relaxed grin, he slowly draws back.

That would be sweet and far more affectionate.

(Gaw, this sucks I can't even kiss him now. I legit just want to give him a billion nose nuzzles, brush my forehead against his, and caress his cheeks, jaw, and ears far more than kiss him.)

Larian broke the Astarion romance in patch 4 to punish us Astarion girlies for all the discourse we made.

Maybe they'll unbug the astarion romance if we're really really good from now on.

so i downloaded a few mods to give the Squad™ a slight make-over...

Shorter hair for Gale, different hair and a better looking eye for Wyll, and Astarion got earrings. Alfonso 'The Face-Breaker' Tombstone is surrounding himself with handsome men while the ladies are banished to camp jail.

Ever since patch 4, my game has been glitching! It’s most likely due to all my mods, but I can’t bring myself to play without mods 🥲

Thankfully, I never got the glitch where Astarion looks disgusted when you ask for a kiss!

Cazador removed Astarions blindfold roughly. His eyes taking time to adjust, he struggled a bit against the binds that tied his hands behind him. Cazador threw you down in front of Astarion. He swore his heart squeezed so tight in his chest he could hear it cracking. You were closer to Cazador than Astarion ever wanted you to be. 

“How rude of you not to introduce us to your friend. Did I raise you without manners, boy?” Cazador spat as he pulled you away from Astarion by your hair. You let out a shriek which only made Cazador pull harder. Astarion struggled but with his wrists and ankles bound there was nothing he could do.

You and Astarion had known each other since you were young. Nearly inseparable as you grew up amongst the high elves despite being a drow. Astarion and you took care of each other and eventually went to Baldur’s Gate together, tasting freedom as adults for the first time. Neither of you ever said it, but neither needed to. You were it for each other. Like perfect puzzle pieces. You never yearned for another, always finding safety and solace in one another. 

The night Astarion was made a spawn was the worst night of your life. The gur beat you as well, not nearly as badly as they had him though. They just wanted you out of the way. You watched through hazy vision as Astarion went limp, battered and bloody, before they took him from the house you shared. You awoke the next day, everything destroyed and no Astarion to be found. You grew cold as your heart locked itself away. 

100 years passed but you remained in Baldur’s Gate. Astarion was your only home, so you settled in the last place you were together. You opened a little shop, making potions of different varieties. You made a good life for yourself. And yet, you felt so alone in the world. You never stopped wanting for Astarion. So when you bumped into him on your way home from your shop you were sure you were hallucinating. It was him but it wasn’t. This Astarion had white hair, red eyes, and fangs. He had been keeping an eye on you from the shadows since the day he was turned. He didn’t trust himself to be around you, not with the sanguine hunger constantly clawing its way up his throat. For 100 years he watched your flourish, and yet, you had an air about you that felt lonely. He missed you endlessly. Sometimes the thoughts and memories of you were all that kept him going. Cazador was a cruel master, he never wanted you mixed up with him. But Astarion couldn’t help it, he had gone without for 100 years. But having you in front of him, he couldn’t resist. No words were shared as you both attached your lips to each other fervently. Every emotion being let out into the kiss, both of you could feel tears on your faces. When you finally did break for air you held him tightly as he did with you. The cold aura you had melted away in an instant, you had him back. Your little star. Still as handsome as ever, but there was pain in him, you could see it. You pulled him into your house, the very same you had both resided in once. He looked around, smiling softly. It was very, you. Just the way he’d imagined it. 

“How?” was all you said, looking at him with big wet eyes.

“That night… I was so close to death, a man named Cazador promised he could save me… I was so afraid… I accepted and he turned me into this… this monstrous thing.” 

You could hear the hateful quiver in his voice. But also one of fear, of nervousness. You went to him, holding his face, looking deep into his eyes. “Vampire or not you are still my little star. Nothing will change that.” you kissed him again. He held you close, afraid that the last 100 years had changed him too much. 

He told you everything. Showed you the scars. Explained why he couldn’t stay but how he would always come back for you. And he did, he visited as often as he could. His master kept him on a short leash but you were just elated to have your love back. The world seemed brighter, sweeter. 

Until this fateful evening. The knock on the door wasn’t Astarion but another vampire. You had no time to react before he hit you, knocking you out, the world fading to black. And now you were here, in a grand palace being dragged away by your hair. Cazador held up a dagger, ready to strike you down before a devious little thought crossed his mind. Astarion begged and pleaded as Cazador stalked back to him. Do anything to him just please let you go. 

“Oh… Oh I see! How you have grown up Astarion. Find love did you? Well, why don’t you love them… to death.” Cazador laughed. He compelled Astarion to walk to you, forcing himself on top of you. You whimpered, not afraid of Astarion but afraid of what Cazador would do to him. You could see the same fear reflected in his own eyes. They were big and soft, you knew it wasn’t him doing any of this. 

“Please…” Astarion begged once more, tears streaming down his face. It almost made Cazador’s undead heart stir. Almost. 

“Drink.” Cazador demanded. Astarion let out a sob before sinking his teeth into your neck. You yelped, the unexpected pain catching you off guard. You could feel gulp after gulp of blood leaving you. You knew you were going to die, you made peace with it quickly. You tangled your hand into Astarions wispy locks. “I’ll find you again. In every lifetime. Always.” you reassured him. You grew cold, your hand falling limply from his hair. “Goodbye little star… I love you…” was the last you could manage to mumble out before slipping into oblivion.

When Cazador finally released Astarion he fell next to you, his body wracked with sobs. He traced his fingers softly over your face. “Darling please… wake up… I’m so sorry… I didn’t want to…” 

Cazador stalked over to him, making him rise out of compulsion. “You have no one in this world but me, boy. You’d do well to remember that.” he tossed Astarion aside, leaving him alone in the large palace hall. All Astarion could do was cradle your lifeless body, whispering to you, rocking you. Dreaming you would stir, you would wake up and reassure him everything was fine. 

You never did. He buried you himself, next to the same grave Cazador made him claw his way out of. He needed to be able to see you again, somewhere to find peace with you. He swore to you he would defeat Cazador. He would find you again, bring you back. In every lifetime. Always.
