CHAPTER TEN IS NOW UP
In the city of Yukiktrum, the hierarchy is clear even when the laws are not: Alphrim rule, betsra serve, and ometki bear young. Claiming a part of the city is easy, but keeping your territory is not, so Alprhim like Chramkut govern with talon and tooth. Maintaining power means control access to ometki, and by selling access to both them and their eggs, Chramkut has turned Themself into a ruthless and wealthy warlord.
Untkra once served as Chramkut’s prime ometki, but that time has passed, and Untkra has been replaced by someone younger. After one failed escape, it was only Untkra’s history with Chramkut that saved them from execution. Untkra knows that getting caught trying again will get them executed, but Unktra is willing to sacrifice everything if it means leaving the conflict-ridden city of Yukiktrum behind. This time, Chramkut’s prime laden ometki wants out, and they’ve begged for Untkra’s help. Untkra is done bearing offspring Untkra will never meet. It’s this way or death.
However, the desert landscape beyond the walls of Yukiktrum is hostile and unknown, and there’s no guarantee that there’s anything out there worth escaping to. What Untkra may not be ready for is what hope lays beyond the dunes, and the redemption that a new home can offer. Yet when another ometki needs saving, Yukiktrum calls Untkra back in what could be Untkra’s most daring rescue yet.
Genre: Sci-Fi
Rating: 18+
T/W: This story is dark in nature, and while nothing explicit is ever shown, there are repeated references to rape (including underage), sexual slavery, and I suppose what equates to child trafficking (is selling eggs considered child trafficking?). There is also violence, murder, drug use, and prejudice/bigotry. This story also contains the trappings of a/b/o. It’s not so closely married to the trope as most a/b/o fics, but it is quite obviously based on it.
Anyway, don’t read if you think egg-laying a/b/o aliens is weird, lol. Otherwise, welcome to the show!
Excerpt:
“It’s absolutely terrible, right? Pure propaganda. No one can act for shit. But you have to admit, the fight scenes are rather good. Leave it to an Alphrim to choreograph the violent bits perfectly. I used to watch that movie as a child with my Alphri-gam. Not really material for children, but I was wise beyond my years in the way most of us have to be.”
“So you live here with your Alphri-gam?”
For the first time, a hint of melancholy touched Taimrak’s voice. “Ah, no. We left Yukiktrum because our neighborhood was attacked with shells and choking gas. My Alphri-gam protected my face, but in doing so they inhaled a lot of the gas. They only lasted a few weeks after we arrived here.”
“I… I am sorry,” Untkra replied, unsure of what to say. “What about your bet-itlapt?”
“Died when I was a child.”
“That is unfortunate.”
“Did you know either of your parents?”
Untkra shook their head. “No. Never. I was raised by elder ometki.”
“Couldn’t one of them had been your atsk-om?”
“Maybe. I don’t know.” Untkra was about to remind Taimrak that they probably didn’t know who their atsk-om was either, but figured that might be rude.
“They don’t keep track of that sort of thing?”
“Of course they do. They didn’t tell me though.”
“Could that mean one of your…” Taimrak paused, as if unsure whether they should ask. “Could that mean one of your children lived with you at the brothel?”
Untkra had considered the possibility many times. Untkra was old enough now that their eldest children would have reached sexual maturity. Often Untkra would stand outside the fence between the brothel and the nursery where ometki children were kept separate and watch the younglings skip along behind their elderly ometki caregivers. They did not yet know of the horrors that awaited them, and when Untkra stopped producing eggs, they’d probably be moved into the nursery to babysit with the other forgotten ometki, no longer valuable beyond what menial labor they could provide. Untkra’s life as incubator and prostitute was miserable, but the value of their eggs meant that only Chramkut had the right to order physical punishment, so Untkra didn’t live under the constant threat of violence beyond that done at the hands of doctors. Once Untkra grew old, not only would they constantly have to fear for their safety, but every day they’d have to look into the eyes of innocent children and pretend their futures contained any hope. Beyond that, Untkra would have to wonder if any of them were theirs.

Week 6. Critical Self-Reflectivity: How Do I Think About My Thinking Processes?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the sixth week of training, our group visited Sim Lim Square to analyze design problems and find ways to improve solutions proposed by previous designeFrs. During this event, we identified one of the pronounced problems in navigating the mall. It consisted in the lack of development of information transfer technologies, such as interactive maps and logical location of stores, as well as in excessive design overload, where a person could quickly get confused.
During this lesson, it occurred to me that the mall did not provide equipment for convenient and understandable movement of people with disabilities (Figure 1).
As a designer, I can say that this problem goes far beyond a single shopping mall. In the digital world, we face similar challenges when creating interfaces. Designers often do not take into account the needs of users with various disabilities, such as visual, hearing, or motor impairments. This leads to the creation of digital products that are not truly inclusive and accessible to all users (Figure 2).
Therefore, after deep reflection and analysis of my professional activity, I came to realize that my previous projects in the field of web design do not fully meet modern accessibility standards for users with disabilities. This moment of self-criticism was an important incentive for me to rethink my design approaches and strive to create more versatile and accessible digital products in the future.

Week 11: Digital Citizenship and Conflict: Social Media Governance
For social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to remain a moral and secure online space, social media governance is essential. It includes the guidelines, policies, and procedures that control data protection, user behavior, and content moderation. Good governance tackles issues like disinformation and privacy concerns while encouraging resposible digital citizenship. This paper examins social media governance's essential elements, implementation tactics, and effects on digital interactions.
User conduct standards, content moderation procedures, and privacy safeguards are all part of social media governance. In order to establish guidelines for appropriate content and to uphold safety in the community, social media sites such as Facebook publish their community standards (Meta). Similar to this, Twitter enforces guidelines to prevent false information, especially during imporant occasions like the Covid-19 pandemic.
Social media governance encourages moral conduct online and gives user the authority to participate appropriately. Governance frameworks help create a safer online environment by preventing misinformation and safeguarding user data (Park, 2023). In order to practice responsible Digital citizenship, one must be aware of the consequences of one's online behaviour and make constructive contributions to online communities.
Effectient social media governance is essential for handling the complexity of online relationships. Platforms can maintain user safety and trust by putting strong policies into place, taking advantage of technology advancements, and encouraging cooperation among users. Maintaining a healthy digital society and navigating the changing digital landscape requires constant governance adaptation adn improvement.

[WEEK 5] From Likes to Action: Can Clicking Change the World?
We've all seen them: the powerful hashtags, the heart-wrenching stories, the calls to action flooding our social media feeds. But how much impact do these online campaigns truly have? Are we just "slacktivists," clicking buttons from the comfort of our couches, or can online activism translate into real-world change? Let's dive into the debate between clicktivism vs. real-world action, exploring the effectiveness of each and how we can bridge the gap for maximum impact.
Tumblr media
The Power of Hashtag Activism
Social networking services (SNSs) have been acknowledged as the key channel for protests and social movements (Markham 2016), mainly due to the social media functions that make it possible for users to communicate with others in an easier, faster, and more diverse way. Hashtag is one of those functions. Hashtag movement, or hashtag activism, refers to actively utilizing the hashtag function of SNSs for social change (Dadas 2018). Since it can facilitate in spreading of awareness and information on a social issue, hashtags can be a useful tool for activists who struggle for social changes (Crandall & Cunningham 2016).
Remember the #BlackLivesMatter movement? It started online, igniting protests worldwide and putting racial injustice on the global agenda. About 44 million tweets were using the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag over the last decade (Atske 2023). Experts even say #BlackLivesMatter generated a national discussion about race that arguably would not have happened, at least not with the same force, had it not been for the power of social media (Chuck 2015).
Tumblr media
But is it just Slacktivism?
At the same time, social media is criticized as a means of activism. A common critique is that online activism is really ‘slacktivism’ wherein digital technology users are only involved in a movement insofar as participation is easy and convenient compared to traditional or offline activism which requires a much greater time and physical investment (Gladwell 2010). Sharing a post might make us feel good, but does it translate into lasting change? They point out the fleeting nature of online trends, the echo chambers we create, and the potential for performative activism, where actions are more about self-promotion than genuine impact.
Tumblr media
Is it… tho?
The real power of a movement lies in the action that follows. Take Black Lives Matter as an example. After George Floyd’s killing, pressure from BLM Los Angeles and massive protests, the council unanimously approved a measure to develop an unarmed model of crisis response that would replace police officers with community-based responders for nonviolent calls. Companies like Peloton, Disney, Facebook and others have spoken up against racial injustice, while the CEO of Netflix donated $120 million to historically Black colleges and universities. Meanwhile, Seth Rogen, Steve Carrell and others have donated to bail funds for protesters (Asmelash 2020). With protests erupting across the country, people donating to bail funds and mutual aid organizations, and a renewed push for police reform and accountability, the activism that was sparked on social media definitely translated into real-world change.
Bridging the Click-Action Gap
So, how do we harness the power of online movements while ensuring they lead to tangible results? Here are some key strategies:
Go beyond the click: Sharing is great, but don't stop there! Research the cause, donate to relevant organizations, volunteer your time, and attend local events.
Connect online and offline: Use online platforms to organize real-world actions like protests, petition signings, or voter registration drives.
Challenge your echo chamber: Seek out diverse perspectives, engage in respectful dialogue, and be open to learning from others.
Focus on long-term impact: Don't get swayed by fleeting trends. Choose movements you're truly passionate about and commit to sustained action.
Online activism is a powerful tool, but it's just one piece of the puzzle. By combining online awareness with real-world action, we can amplify our voices, mobilize communities, and create lasting change 🌐✊🏽
