Another month, another exhibit for the art gallery, another opening night party that was somehow both Nora’s responsibility and totally out of her control. The crowds at them seemed to get stuffier with each passing event, but tonight, she was more focused on other things. Particularly, but unsurprisingly, a vageuly familiar pretty face wandering the floor on her own. 

Nora had seen the woman a handful of times before, usually when passing by her store just down the street, but their interactions were few and far between. Detirmined to change that, she didn’t hesitate for a second to slip between her and a passing waiter offering a glass of champagne. 

“You know, if you’re looking for something a little stronger...” She licked her lips into a playful grin. “I do keep a stash of the good stuff back in my office.”

Preamble: I've been seeing faceclaim posts floating around lately and I wanted to put one of my own forth. (warning,, pic heavy)

So. A Concept.

Winston Duke as Scourge. Most of you would know him from Black Panther, as M'Baku.

And I mean facially - jesus. Imagine nice ol Winston with red skin and tendrils and bone stalks.

Those of you who've seen Black Panther, you know that Winston Duke is a big fucking dude. For those of you who haven't, well, here you go (you're welcome).

For reference, Chadwick Boseman is 6'0". Sooo Winston Duke is at least 6'4" and one fucking giant dude (with thighs and biceps bigger than my head I mean jfc)

He can play a villian/anti-hero pretty damn well (at least as M'Baku) and I mean just look at him. I think the man pretty much screams Scourge.

Late Night Tales: Floating Points

Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points’ personal collection of global soul, ambient, jazz and folk treasures form the latest in the warmly revered Late Night Tales series. This Late Night Tales excursion into the depths of the evening reflects his broad tastes. The globally-travelled producer has collected untold treasures on his travels from dusty stores in Brazil to market stalls near his hometown. There’s the gorgeous ‘Via Làctea’, culled from Carlos Walker’s debut album, Abu Talib’s (Bobby Wright) plaintive ‘Blood Of An American’ and Robert Vanderbilt’s gospel reworking of Manchild’s ‘Especially For You’. Raw soul and feeling oozing from each song’s pores. 
At the other end of the music scale are the modernists, such as Québécoise Kara-Lis Coverdale who weighs in with the indelible ‘Moments In Love’, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith whose ‘Milk’ is an exercise in tranquility, while Sarah Davachi’s meditative mix-opener offers respite from a weary world. 
We have some tracks exclusive to Late Night Tales; alongside Davachi’s offerings there is also Toshimaru Nakamura’s ‘Nimb #59’, as well as the now traditional cover version. Shepherd delved into his childhood memory for this one, a track taken from the first album his parents bought him, Kenny Wheeler’s ‘Music For Large & Small Ensembles’: Sam offers up his interpretation of ‘Opening Part 1’. Wheeler also contributes horns to Azimuth track The Tunnel, written and performed by Norma Winstone and John Taylor who, coincidentally, are the parents of Floating Points’ drummer Leo Taylor. Closing the album, Lauren Laverne reads the suitably nocturnal poem ‘Ah! Why, Because The Dazzling Sun’ by Emily Brontë.

Cam arrives back to his room while intoxicated. He and Aurelia reconcile while she takes care of him. Cam “borrows” her wedding ring.

Cam drives to Aspen to buy Aurelia an engraved $13,000 wedding ring from Harry Winston.

The Avalanche happens and both parties are pretty sure the other has died.

Cam seeks advice from Addy, his most trusted bartender, about his situation with Aurelia.

Hailey yells at Cam for being with an engaged woman. It’s out of love, hush.

Cam and Aurelia finally properly reunite, he returns her original engagement ring. Henry, her fiance, has arrived in Wintergreen, which complicates their relationship even more.

Cam and Aurelia share a private midnight kiss in a closet at the New Year’s Eve party.

JANUARY 2019

Cam sleeps with Tabi during the party, with Jade after the party, and with Parker a few days later.

Kika gärna in på Rävlyans hemsida: www.ravlyan.com Bilden är ritad av mig och föreställer: Serenity, Peachfuzz, Ivy(Aurelia/Spencer), Coco(Bonnie/Winston) och Pärlan. ~Betafärgen och dess betydelse i Rävlyan vs. Hundparken~ Jag tror säkert att många av Rävlyans medlemmar kanske inte riktigt hajar grejen med att lägga ner massor med energi på att försöka få sig en betafärg. Jag har även stött på vissa som föredrar alpafärger och som tycker att betor är på tok för överexponerade. Vilket såklart är helt okej! Variation i ett community är bara nyttigt <3 Men hur som helst så kände jag att det kanske kunde vara intressant att få en inblick i mitt liv och en liten förklaring till varför betafärg är så viktigt för mig. Vi tar det från början! Betafärg är ett koncept som är inspirerat av Hundparken, men som återfinns i många andra spel. Man kan t.ex. jämföra det med shinies i Pokémon, sällsynta skins eller andra stil/färgmöjligheter som är väldigt svåra att få. Skillnaden är att i Hundparken var det långt ifrån en möjlighet som alla fick. När jag var en tweenie och började spela Hundparken på SVTs hemsida regelbundet, så fanns det otroligt få medlemmar som hade betafärg. De som hade betafärg var antingen: 1. Moderatorer  2. Vinnare i betatävlingar eller 3. Lyckliga köpare av beta-spray(en pryl som såldes vid ett enstaka tillfälle för in-game-valuta). Om man skrapade ihop alla betafärgade medlemmar i en hög, så skulle det antagligen bli en del, men under den perioden då jag var aktiv(2005-2008) så upplevde jag att det var få av dem som var aktiva. En stor del av moderatorkåren verkade tröttna på spelet och söka sig till andra intressen, och när nya moderatorer rekryterades så var majoriteten av de nya betafärgade sedan tidigare. Så när nya möjligheter för betafärg öppnades upp så ledde det inte till en speciellt stor ökning i antalet betafärger per antal medlemmar. Sedan så arrangerades det 0, zero, nada betatävlingar under den här perioden, trots att medlemsantalet gick spikrakt uppåt. Inte förrän man avslöjade att svenska Hundparken skulle läggas ner så gick en liten betatävling av stapeln. De visste att spelet var över och hur ledsna alla var, men ändå så utsåg man inte fler än bara några få vinnare. Allt som allt, så uppskattar jag att svenska Hundparken i sitt slutstadie kanske hade max 1 betafärg på 100 medlemmar. Och då räknar jag med de betafärgade som var inaktiva. Så för mig som då var runt 12-14 år så fanns det inte på kartan att få betafärg.  Det var någonting man önskade att få, men innerst inne så visste man att det var något som man aldrig skulle få möjlighet till. Så det lönade sig liksom inte att hoppas det minsta lilla på att en dag få den chansen. Man bara såg andra betafärgade hundar och accepterade att det var en helig Graal utom räckhåll. (Observera att jag idag anser att betafärger ska vara sällsynta och att 1 betafärg på 100 medlemmar känns som en bra fördelning. Värderingarna i texten är valda utifrån mina minnen om hur jag som barn glorifierade betafärger och upplevde situationen.) I Hundeparken 2, som SVT inte ville vara en del av, så ändrades reglerna. Dels så raderades möjligheten att kunna ha en överexponerad färg helt. Effekten ersattes istället med ett färgat objekt som lägger sig ovanpå de skuggade partierna för att ge illusionen av att hunden egentligen har en annan färg, men bara när den står rakt upp. Dessutom så begränsades den till att endast moderatorer i tjänst fick tillåtelse att bära denna hatt. Så det var inte nog med att det inte var en riktig beta, de som fick tillgång till den fick inte ens behålla den ifall de slutade som moderatorer. Med den lilla bakgrundsberättelsen så kanske det går att förstå att jag var snabb med att diskutera betafärg när portarnas till Rävlyans discord slog upp. Det hade gått 11 år sedan svenska Hundparken lades ner, men där och då kunde det lika gärna ha hänt under gårdagen, för betadrömmen dunkade i bröstet på mig precis lika hårt. Redan när Palebits gav oss färgrouletten och berättade att vi kunde lyckas få en betafärg på vår tillfälliga test-räv, så blev jag jätteglad. Att över huvud taget få testa en beta när man ALDRIG haft någon är förstås något sensationellt. Så, jag kan nog inte sätta ord på den glädje och tacksamhet som jag har känt sedan de offentligt gick ut med att alla som lyckas få en betafärg i Rävlyans testperiod kommer att få möjligheten att överföra den till det färdiga spelet. Att vi inte bara får testa och prova precis så många betor vi vill och känner för(så länge vi lyckas få tag i dem vill säga), utan dessutom får lov att behålla en av dem också...  Som sagt, jag är mållös än idag. Så, kort och gott, en stor del av mitt beta-begär är för den lilla Katlas skull, som aldrig fick någon i Hundparken. När jag deltog i den där lilla betatävlingen som hölls i slutskedet, så var det en starkt magenta betafärg med rosa skugga som jag ville ha till min hund Piggelin. Idag så försöker jag fortfarande förverkliga just den drömmen på min internationella räv i Lunarstray(engelska versionen av Rävlyan), vid namn Pepper <3 

Avslutningsvis, för att undvika missförstånd, så vill jag också ta upp att betafärgen är långt ifrån den enda anledningen till varför jag brinner så för Rävlyan. Naturligtvis så är det en stor morot, ett personligt mål som jag t.ex. kan välja att fokusera på de dagar då jag känner mig lite nere. Lexie Roberts, 89

Mrs. Lexie Juanita Dowdy Roberts better known as "Ma" gained her angel wings on August 24, 2019 at the age of 89.

               Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday August 31, at Reins Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Victor Church, Pastor Steve Shumate and Brother Brandon Dillard officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, North Wilkesboro. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening, August 30, 2019 at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home.

               Ma was born March 30, 1930 in Guilford County to John Arland Dowdy and Lexie Viola Blackburn Dowdy Honeycutt.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Leroy Roberts, and her daughter, Renea Taylor.  

               She is survived by her sons, John Roberts of Butner, NC,  Don Roberts of Checotah, Oklahoma and Paul Roberts of Millington, Tennessee, grandchildren; Tay Taylor, Adrian Taylor, Candy Caldwell all of Winston Salem, NC, Carmy Taylor of North Wilkesboro, NC, Fletcher Roberts of Alma, Michigan, Kristi Roberts of Union, SC, as well as several distant grandchildren; great grandchildren; Zane Caldwell and Kala Douglas of Winston Salem, NC, Max Taylor of North Wilkesboro, NC, Devin Heinz of Union, SC, Destiny and Kara Church of Wilkesboro, NC, and several distant great grandchildren.

               Ma worked for many years at Gardner Mirror as well as a CNA at Home Care of Wilkes and Avante.

               She was known for her kind, mischievous, loving nature and was a hard working simple woman who loved everyone. She didn't care about worldly riches because she always said she had a mansion waiting. Ma loved to garden, grow flowers, do sequin embroidery, dip snuff, eat chocolate, go to the beach and read her Bible, but most of all spread the word of God.  

               She was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church. Ma always sat in the second pew on the right side of the church. She attended until her health declined. When not able to attend, Ma still praised the Lord daily.

               Even as the Alzheimer's progressed her love for Jesus remained. This terrible disease took so much from her but never her faith. Her favorite quote was "God loves you and so do I."

               The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Westwood Hills who have helped take care and love Ma for the last five years. A very special thanks to the staff on the Spark Unit and Orange Hall where Ma resided. The family also wishes to thank Mountain Valley Hospice for their loving

support the last few months.

 Arlena Creasman, 79

Mrs. Arlena Virginia Barker Creasman, age 79 of North Wilkesboro, wife of LaMar Creasman, died Friday, August 23, 2019 at her home.

               A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Kedron Nicholson officiating.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

               Mrs. Creasman was born June 17, 1940 in Ashe County to Lee and Ilene Gilley Barker.  She was a social worker at Wilkes County Social Services and retired from New River Mental Health as a counselor.  She also specialized in working with children as a private counselor. She continued working for BROC Head Start as a counselor. Arlena was a friend and caregiver to many. She gave herself to others every day of her life. She loved her family and her many friends.  She especially loved her grandkids and great-grandkids and made each of them always feel like they were the favorite.

               She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Kathy Sapp; and her brothers-in-law, Delbert Sapp and Haskell (Frog) Hartsog.

               She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Shupe Shew and husband, Claude Shew, Jr., and Robin Shupe Keller and Dave Keller; one son, David Lee Shupe and wife, Karen Rhoades Shupe; five grandchildren, Chris Ferguson and wife, Jessica, Karrie Shew Combs and husband, Matthew, Maggie Shupe, Sophia Shupe, and Amber Keller; six great-grandchildren, Levi Ferguson, Ty Ferguson, Bryce Ferguson, Tori Ferguson, Owen Combs and Addie Combs; one sister, Janet Hartsog; and three special nephews.

Mrs. Vecie Hall Shoemaker, age 86 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at her home.

               Mrs. Shoemaker was born September 28, 1932 in Wilkes County to Clarence E. Hall and Verna Shumate Hall. She retired from Thom McAn Manufacturing, Inc.

               She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters; Marie Hall Karriker, Catherine Hall Lovette, Sue Hall Miller and Wanda Hall Adams.

               Mrs. Shoemaker is survived by her husband; Bobby E. Shoemaker of the home, two daughters; Lynn Shoemaker Dyer and husband Danny of Millers Creek, Diane Shoemaker Cannon of Wilkesboro, a son; Bobby F. Shoemaker

and wife Pam of North Wilkesboro, four grandchildren; Robin D. Hamby and husband Matt, Amber C. Shumate and husband Andy, Ashley D. Cannon and fiancé Bobby Sheets and Adam P.  Michael Pennington, 60

Michael Andrew Pennington, age 60, of Millers Creek, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at his home. He was born April 16, 1959 in Ashe County to William Watson and Reba Phillips Pennington. Michael was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed fixing up old cars and was employed with Tiny's Alignment as a mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Polk Pennington; son, Dustin Pennington of Wilkesboro; sisters, Becky Beach and spouse Johnny of Washington, NC, Nancy Pennington of Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Emmalyne Pennington, Benjamin Pennington, Keegan Pennington; and nephew, Cody Beach.

               Funeral service was August 25,  at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Joey Moore and Pastor Victor Church officiating. Burial   followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Aurelia Allen Brown Delp, age 78 of Millers Creek, wife of Robert Clayton Delp passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at her home.

               Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM  Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Millers Creek United  Methodist Church with Rev. Cokie Bristol officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30  at the church.

               Mrs. Delp was born October 4, 1940 in Wilkes County to John Quincy Brown and Ona Belle Blackburn Brown. She graduated from Wilkes Central High School in 1960, was a Senior Girl Scout and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She worked in retail at the Sears store before becoming a fulltime Homemaker. Mrs. Delp was a member

of Millers Creek United Methodist Church.

               In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters; Mary James and husband John, Martha Faw and husband Gurnie and Betty Jennings and three brothers; Quincy Brown and wife Gladys, James Brown and wife Sally Adkins and Clayton Brown and wife Ruby.

               She is survived by her husband; Robert Clayton Delp of the home, a daughter; Tina Delp of Millers Creek, a son; Tony Delp and wife Jennifer of Fuquay-Varina, two grandchildren; Richard "Clayton" Delp and Christine Delp and a brother in law; Ralph Jennings of Gaffney, SC.

Nancy Thompson, 64

Nancy Trudean Thompson, age 64, of Millers Creek, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Forsyth

Medical Center. Mrs. Thompson was born February 17, 1955 in Wilkes County to her mother, Faye Dancy Combs. She was a member of Pine View Baptist Church. She loved to play the piano, in which she was the pianist and was faithful to her church as long as she was able. Nancy dearly loved her family. She vol

unteered with Meals on Wheels and Senior Companions. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother.

 Bobby Bumgarner,  82

Mr. Bobby Gray Bumgarner, age 82 of Wilkesboro, passed away Tuesday, August 20. 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center.

               Funeral services were August 23, 2 at Reins Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Jamie McGuire officiating. Burial was in Scenic Memorial Gardens.  

               Mr. Bumgarner was born July 31, 1937 in Wilkes County to John Alonzo Bumgarner and Cilla Creola Watts Bumgarner. He retired after 45 years of service from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Mr.

Bumgarner was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.

               He was preceded in death by his parents, a son; Michael Graylin Bumgarner, a sister; Gladys Margaret Bumgarner Shumaker, four brothers; Ted Bumgarner, Jim Bumgarner, Rex Bumgarner and Rale Bumgarner and a sister in law; Ruth Bumgarner.

               Mr. Bumgarner is survived by his wife; Betty Jo Lankford Bumgarner of the home and a son; Jeffrey Todd Bumgarner of Millers Creek.

Dean Arnold Stamper, age 73, of McGrady, passed away Monday, August 19, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Wilkes Regional. He was born March 8, 1946 in Wilkes County to Connie and Bessie Mae Ellis Stamper. Mr. Stamper loved to fish

and hunt. He also loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Stamper was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lynn Annette Stamper; brother , William Donald Stamper, Montie Stamper; sister, Grace Beck and brother-in-law, Jim; and brother-in-law, Eugene James.

Steven Lee Meade, age 57, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Meade was born June 13, 1962 in Hamlin, West Virginia to James Merle and Ella Victoria Bare Meade. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Haskel Cleek.

               Surviving are his wife, Theda Wyatt Meade; daughter, Ashley Meade of Mattoon, Illinois; sons, Stevie Meade and Dustin Meade of Mattoon, Illinois; mother, Ella Victoria Bare of North Wilkesboro; step daughter, Lisa Anderson of Millers Creek; step son, Frankie Reavis of North Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Jason Brown and

When you know, you know. And sometimes when you know, you’re just ready to do the dang thing already! Kaitlin + Lars had been together for almost 10 years when they decided to celebrate their union with friends + family! They called up Holly at Anything But Gray Events to help them plan the event, not only in just 19 days but also from afar—this Aussie couple wanted to get married in LA!

We hired Holly 19 days before the wedding. I had picked Everson Royce Bar when I was in LA a month before the wedding, but Holly got everything locked down with the venue, sent us three possible photographers, two options for florists, and one make-up artist. That allowed us to make decisions quickly, and trust that everyone was an outstanding professional who would be able to deliver. Holly really kept us on schedule and was realistic about what was possible and what was going to either be more stress or more money than it was worth. She also helped Lars organize a surprise ice cream truck for me!

When it comes to crunch time wedding planning, don’t head to craigslist thinking scrimping will be the best move. Truth is, when it comes to planning a wedding in just a couple of weeks, you don’t have time for mistakes that can’t be fixed. Hire relatable, experienced and professional vendors who carry insurance and have great reviews. They will be the pros you lean on to pull your big day together in a flash!

TIP 2: Be Flexible

Planning a wedding in 30 days means you need to be open to options, situations, and challenges that may arise. Being too rigid is a recipe for disasters. Trust your vendor team and your gut that whatever choice you make is the right one!

The Sweet + Bright Ceremony

That WOW factor! K + L wanted to keep decor to a minimum with one exception: the florals! Winston & Main covered a tree in the bar’s backspace—the ceremony area—with yellow and orange florals. The tree acted as the ceremony arch for the vow exchange!

Rather than hire an officiant, the guests served as guides to the celebration with call and response vows placed at each setting.

What it’s all about. Just so special, right?

A Brunch Reception

TIP 3: Use an All-Inclusive Venue

This would include catering, staffing, bar, and basic rentals. When you are working on a month-of time frame, you can’t reinvent the wheel. Working with a venue that has your basic needs already covered is a huge time and stress relief. That way you only have to bring in the florals and decorative elements to make the space your own.

You never know until you ask: the Everson Royce Bar had never hosted a wedding before, yet they created a delicious brunch menu full of California favorites, a mimosa bar, and espresso martinis!

TIP 4: Be Realistic with Your Expectations

Remember to gauge your expectations accordingly to what can be successfully and logically accomplished in 30 days. This includes your expectations of yourself. Jumping into crash diets or pressuring your wedding day to be perfection isn’t the answer. Your wedding will be amazing—even in 30 days—because ultimately and most importantly, you are marrying YOUR person, not the day!

TIP 5: KISS! Keep it Simple Stupid

The more guests you invite, the more complicated wedding planning gets. Keeping your guest list boiled down to the most important and key people in your life will save you valuable time and drama. Extra points if you omit a wedding party and roll as a solo duo on wedding day.

— I CAN’T WAIT FOR YOU

WINTERGREEN, WYOMING

Two days after his relapse, Cam knew what he needed to do. No woman in the world could ever care for him as much as Aurelia cared for him.

While she was by his side the entire night, he’d managed to slip her engagement ring off of her finger, keeping it for himself. Though he was still in a funk, he had a plan, and damn anyone who would go against him to enact it.

He conducted a google search and found that the nearest Harry Winston was in Aspen... he would spare no expense for someone as angelic as Aurelia. It had to be something better than Henry could ever give her, and something that came from Cam’s own heart.

And so with that, he rented a car and just started driving. Now bear in mind, Aspen, Colorado is hours away from Wintergreen. Several. Hours. At the very least seven, but Cam wasn’t keeping track of the time. He was full of adrenaline and he would not stop until he made it there (okay, maybe he stopped for a bathroom break a few times but, you know what it doesn’t matter.)

Aurelia was calling him frantically and leaving message after message but there was no possible way he could lie to her or explain what he was doing. There was no way. Maybe she knew he took the ring, maybe she didn’t. He wasn’t going to find out.

ASPEN, COLORADO

And so Cam in his flannel and jeans swings open the doors and grips Aurelia’s original ring tight in his hand, frantically scanning the room for an expert. All he received were dirty looks.

“Excuse me, can you please find me something nicer than this.” He showed the woman the ring and waited with baited breath as she took it behind the counter to examine it. Lord if Cam didn’t have a heart attack when she came back with the details.

“Sir, you do realize this is a two-hundred year-old diamond, right? Where did you get this ring?”

“It’s my... girlfriend’s old engagement ring. Its from a different man.” Of course he’d need to lie in order to find any cooperation from the staff. “I need a new one. Something better, from me.”

And so he spent nearly three hours going through their collection and weighing the options in his mind, finding that he kept going back to one that was so elegant and dainty that it reminded him of her. Though to be sure, he probably looked at every damn ring in their collection.

“This one, I think this is the one I want. I need it the size of the other ring, please. Could you put our initials inside of it?”

And so Cam walked out of Harry Winston approximately $13,000 lighter, and drove back to Wintergreen.

He was happier. This was a proven fact in the five days, six months, and two years since Aurelia was born. Egon had made a chart, pointing out the sharp increase in Venkman’s mood, only faltering in the face of an impending divorce, then continuing on unaltered until this particular afternoon.

Peter was late for work.

Later than usual (25.6 percent later than average, usually indicating a bad hangover, or more recently, difficulty finding Aurelia’s shoes for preschool). Today’s lateness was highlighted by the manner in which Peter entered the building: in a panic.

“I can’t find her!” He promptly collapsed against Janine, who stood awkwardly as he sobbed, incoherent, into her shoulder.

She pressed the intercom button on the desk. “Attention Egon, Winston, Ray, et cet-ra, it looks like we got a crisis down here.”
