I adapted my Poppy Playtime OC Millicent Legrand to the Space Rider AU of @onyxonline

I plan on maybe doing a drawing of her friend Diana in the future, but first I'll move on to Aurora's other outfits before starting another drawing.

I'm not used to drawing anthropomorphic characters, so she might look a little strange (I think I looked at the drawing for too long because now something about it bothers me and I don't know what it is).

About Aurora:

Aurora is the crown princess of the planet Galatea. Her job is to ensure the safety of her planet and ensure that other planets' ecosystems can recover after a disaster.

Her mother, Queen Cybele, currently holds the title of “Mother Nature,” which is passed on to Aurora upon completion of her training and studies.

Although she is not a Rider fighting against the Cult of the Prototype, she cares deeply about other planets and will help them (and their ecosystem) recover after a major disaster.

Aurora might not be good with close Combat, but she has enough experience with magic that it makes up for it. (She does her best in hand-to-hand combat training, although she probably needs a few extra sessions.)

Aurora is a sweet pacifist that is willing to see the best in everyone. She is very respectful of other people and loves learning more about planets and their traditions.

While she behaves elegantly and gracefully towards her subjects or in her princely duties, in private she is very lively and cheerful. She loves taking care of the royal garden and even talks to the flowers when no one is looking.

She is currently doing her training on a spaceship while visiting other planets from time to time. She is very dutiful and tries to make a good impression when visiting other planets, as she is the representative of Galatea.

She doesn't like confrontation and tries to settle disputes rather than escalate things. But don't underestimate her because she doesn't hesitate to act when a fight breaks out.

When Aurora needs to fight, she much prefers to stay at a distance, as she is more suited to ranged attacks than close combat. When defense is needed, she creates a wall of thorny vines and heals her injured teammates.

She usually helps with the clean up after fights, such as capturing the cultists.

Power Capabilities:

Aurora is directly connected to the natural world and thus can communicate, influence, manipulate and control nature: all living beings and plants and natural phenomena, such as the weather and geology of the Earth, and the matter and energy of which all these things are composed. She can survive in any natural environment on different planets. She can control animals and plants and mimic their abilities and forms.

Because Aurora can communicate with nature, she becomes instantly familiar with her surroundings, the connection is so deep that the earth can respond to her emotions and desires (blossoming with flowers and calming weather when happy, making skies stormy or cause earthquakes when angry, shifting the landscape to gain the advantage in a fight, etc.)

Aurora can purify, heal and generally influence the health of nature, and considering the fact that they're helping the environment, plants and animals act favorably towards her. They have access to every living species of animal and can also draw strength from them and acquire their abilities. Nature obeys Aurora's every command and operate on a "hive mind", meaning Aurora can control an entire army of animals.

Power Limitations:

Control, discipline, and restraint are extremely important. Unconscious, emotion-influenced, impulsive, or reckless use of this power can be catastrophic.

Since the user's emotions affect nature directly, control is essential.

Distance, mass, precision, etc. depend upon of the knowledge, skill, and strength of the user, and their power's natural limits.

I could be reading this all wrong and only seeing what I want to see, but if I'm right and you think about it, Aurora's actions in this chapter seem to be meant to further confirm that she never fled because Armand told her to and, more glaringly, she never cared about the Sadida beyond using them to enable her own ascension to power.

When she returned in chapter 3 and Yugo and Amalia called her and her father out on fleeing and abandoning them against the Nécromes, Aurora claimed she was just carrying out Armand's will, which was to protect their unborn child. She even went as far as trying to paint Amalia in a bad light due to "not knowing the joy of carrying a child", implying Amalia couldn't possibly know what it's like to put your child first, not-so-subtly calling her selfish.

This all coming from the same woman who is now going against her father's admittedly reasonable orders in the face of a furious Amalia looming over them.

Now, as much as I'd like to say Amalia wouldn't have touched her hadn't Aurora taken flight with the intention of fighting her in the first place, the truth is it's hard to tell Amalia's true reasons behind going after the Osamodas. Maybe she just wanted to berate and kick them out of her kingdom for poisoning Yugo but her emotional state was reflected by her vines, giving her a more dangerous, unhinged look. Or maybe she truly intended to use violence against them and she is partly to blame.

Whatever the case, it doesn't change the fact that Aurora has once again revealed her true colours: she's chosen to fight Amalia, even while pregnant, even though she refused to do so to aid and lead the Sadida in battle.

This all reads as her entire personality being nothing but two-faced, hypocritical, and self-serving, with no concern or care for anyone but herself. Not her husband's people, not her husband's family, not her husband, not even their child.

Because this time she doesn't even have the excuse of trying to protect her child, that's actually what her father was trying to do. No, she willingly and knowingly put her child in danger by ignoring her father's warnings—why am I not surprised that one (1) time she doesn't blindly listen to her father is the one time she honestly should have?— and engaging Amalia.

What's more, her motives for forsaking her child's safety after painting herself as the widowed martyr, burdened by the responsibility of motherhood, are purely egotistical.

As the above frames show, she's not even trying to defend herself and the child from Amalia's wrath (again, that's her father), rather, her actions are motivated by her pride, ego, and seething hatred of her sister-in-law. There's no moral high ground, no motherly love, no protective instintcs, nothing!

All there's left is the all-consuming desire to get rid of Amalia once and for all. Her hatred of her overrides all reason, which is probably part of the reason why her father came with her to the kingdom to reclaim the throne in the first place: because Aurora is both too unstable and impulsive to be trusted with such responsibility. The Osamodas King is essentially keeping her in check because she can't be trusted to be left to her own devices without messing it all up.

And this all ties back to her actions in season 4, which, combined with the webtoon, highlight her sheer hypocrisy. She claimed she only ran away because she was protecting her child, so she should be forgiven for throwing an entire kingdom and possibly the whole world to the wolves in order to save her own skin, but suddenly there's nothing wrong with fighting a very pissed off Sadida Queen (one of the most powerful Sadidas around after Sadida Himself and His dolls and the one she just so happens to have a personal vendetta against) while pregnant.

She didn't leave the kingdom because Armand told her to, she did so out of her own volition. Just like nothing she's doing is for her child, but for herself. She's no mother, let alone a queen, but an unstable, entitled brat.

SO BASICALLY, mumbo right? i know i said hed be nastya and he does share some stuff w her but then ppl reminded me of who would be aurora and what of nastyas backstory and i realized tango would be a better fit for those details of nastya so (ex princess tango + starship impulse !!! zed is the ships doctor btw n his mechanism is his brain) i decided to mix n match stuff from different characters n change whatevers, so now about mumbo:

his mechanism is his blood ! which is replaced with redstone :] this makes him radioactive, and also glow red. hes also like, a powered redstone circuit or w/e they are, and can power things by touching them/being near them even. i think redstone would be terrible for circulation but also that i think redstone itself would be pretty hot, being radioactive and all (especially powered redstone)

the coat + gloves etc are for hiding the glow (and also maybe some of the radiation??? i cant imagine that would be very good for normal people), and the scarf is for his head when he goes out n such

the mustache is fake. yeah. mumbo got meched young and did not get a mustache u_u

i think theyd have a backstory kinda like ashes, mumbo worked for the governemnt as a scientist/weapons expert but double crossed them for the rebellion or smth and got assassinated/sabotaged via lab safety violations

im kinda thinkin if ill keep the original number of 9 mechanisms or if ill add more hermits, i want other mcyts to be album characters and such, with one smp focused on one album maybe, but i dont know if i wanna add hermits as albums characs or as more mechs. maybe them as non-mechs immortals? like king cole or lyf or briar etc. thoughts on etho as carmilla tho?

A plot hole that makes me want to tear my hair out

I honestly consider myself a pretty laid back person when it comes to plot holes for most media and especially for trc; plot holes on their own I’m usually fine to gloss over they only bother me if they coincide with something character related or thematic that I dislike, then I’ll bitch about them, but other times they are simply not my priority compared to other things. And TRC & TD3 are extremely character driven so that’s especially true regarding it, I’m sure there are more major plot holes but the ones that actually bother me would be: 

not addressing in Greywaren when all the magical or dreamt creatures go into a coma because the ley line energies are dead, that Gansey is also a ley line powered creature and should be fully dead rn… like… if we’re going to jump through so many hoops to not bring in or address what’s going on with Gansey Blue and Henry, I feel like you should just address it and/or bring someone in… 

This is more a dropped thread (I was actually making a list of plot holes that borrowed me in trcverse and then realized most of them are actually dropped plotlines so only addressing the two that are kind of both) than a plot hole but the fact the tapestry of women with Blue’s faces never gets brought back beyond that tidbit about it being a sweet metal which isn’t even related back to Blue and her plot line so I don’t think that’s satisfying enough. Part of me wonders if there was going to be a Blue is related to Gwenllian and therefore Glendower thread, or something about other mirror women in Gwenllian’s time. Also think it’s possible this was Mstief playing with the concept of adding clones to the verse before she’d really fleshed that out and committed to what she’d eventually do with the Hennessy girls. Women having to be reflections of the world around them or other people is such an interesting theme to explore and it is sort of a through line in the verse between the Blue as a mirror, the Blue and Gwenllian stuff in BLLB and the Jordan/Hennessy and Aurora/Mor dichtomities (which also gives Blue’s Extreme Distaste for Aurora and more ambivalent discomfort with Gwenllian interesting connotations imo), but it’s only really properly explored with Jordanessy and then not even to it’s full potential. And the red hands… okay I need to save some of this for when I get to taking BLLB notes which will be real soon. But I have many thoughts on how it was not used to it’s full potential at all which includes the lack of explanation

This is also like partially plot hole partially just dropped storyline but the lack of follow through on the thread in MI about Ronan’s fear about Adam being bonded to him because of Cabeswater not being followed through on is sooo odd. Like yes that’s more about his self esteem + abandonment stuff and it’s obviously not true but the fact we never witness a conversation where Adam is like “no your wrong because I made the deal with Cabeswater of my own volition, it was separate from you etc.’ I won’t go into all my thoughts on this am planning to have it come up in my Reading TRB fic as a conversation between them to deal with some of my own gripes… I think td3 on some level is meant to address the consequences of the sacrifices deals choices etc. of trc for Ronan and Adam but it’s also very adamant about not engaging with huge chunks of trc canon like the other chars or dynamics or locations or magic … and like there’s certainly a way to flop as a spin off from trying to be too closely tied to the og series so if she was trying to avoid that I get that impulse, but the desire for the series to be about thematic consequences of the first series while also having nothing to do with the first series and it’s themes…. resulted in some truly bizarre choices imo. So this is an individual example that brings out a lot of my frustrations with this lmao. Also with my gripes about how Pynch’s arc and conflict is handled in td3 but I feel like I’ve spoken on that enough I don’t have to go into it here.

There are things about TRK I’m sure count and Gansey’s resurrection might count but I can’t really articulate my thoughts there rn well say what I have to say on this reread.  thank you

Since Miranda will get so focused on Zane being a Robot does she see him a bit like Milton Dyer? Does she see him as a robot or Nindroid? Is she going to ask insensitiv questions?

Not quite as drastic as Dyer, but there are parallels (mainly because she tries to figure out how his 'software' works on 'something like him' –leading to the insensitive questions– but Pre-Titanium he doesn't really have any since he's powered by the Aurora Unit and, y'know, more human-y impulses. Post-Titanium that's still true, but his body modifications do require some extra software to keep tabs on himself, hence why he winds up hooked up to a computer so often for maintenance from Post-S4 onwards, as opposed to just externally fixing him up)

The sun was shining through the hospital window. It was the first sunny day since two weeks of rain and the sun was shining beatifuly. It was shining so brightly that it made her eyes burn. She turned het head to take a look at her newborn daughter. She let out a tired sigh from as she watched her baby with little interest. Seconds later he turned her head towards the window.

- Good morning miss Frost - said the nurse which attitude equal the bright sun outside. Emma looked at her and gave her a small smile without showing her teeth

-  I just came to do a check up on the baby- She assured while getting close to the baby but she was surprised when she saw the name sticker empty

-  Mrs frost have you thought of a name?- The nurse said while glancing at the new mother with a frown on her face.

- No.- Emma answered coldly but then noticing how the nurse's expression had changed completely. She didn't need it to use her powers to know what the nurse was thinking.

-Listen um?...-

-Parker ... nurse Parker-

- Nurse Parker I haven't decided what name to give her i a very hard decision-  answered Emma caming nurse Parkers worried

- Well your doubt is normal I still remember how hard I was to name Peter- nurse  Parker answered with a nostalgic smile on her face.

- No Peter is my nephew he is months older than this little one -

-  You know  this is one of the most special babies I ve to help deliver, we've been having intense rain for two weeks which means many accidents which leads to an excessive work  load with not enough staff in the hospital when you arrived  I had already pulled a 20 hour shift  I was on my way out but there was no one else on call last night So I had to stay and help. The moment she was born the thunder and rain stopped being heard there was a moment of calm in the OR. Then I walked outside and I could barely recognize my surroundings the sun was shining there was no sign of rain-  She said approaching the baby's crib and taking her in her arms, The baby girl was starting to get fuzzy so nurse Parker rocked her in her arms.

- That's why I think that the name Aurora would be perfect- Nurse Parker said looking up at Emma while still cradling the baby in her arms.

For a moment a his heart had the impulse to leave her daughter under the care of nurse Parker but then looking at her daughter's face she saw the factions that resembled her father and her heart filled with hate and bitterness then she decided to continue her initial plan and her lipsformed a mischievous Smile by thinking how the so called father of his daughter was going to react  by seeing the surprise she was going to leave him.

Emma headed out with the girl, got a taxi to take her to her apartment. When he entered, he left the baby on the table and walked to his room where he looked for a basket and placed a pillow inside. He went out of his room to the table and put the baby in the basket.

-Well, it was a new pillow- he said with a tone of disgust while the baby babbled with a smile.

With the basket in his arms he headed outside after several attempts he managed to get a taxi.

- Can you take me to Stark industries? - Emma said and the taxi driver looked at her in disbelief.

- Is that a baby? - He asked genuinely concerned.

-I asked you a question sir-

-It's a baby. Do you know you have in the basket is a baby? - Said the upset taxi driver.

And with that the taxi driver starts immediately. The trip was peaceful until the baby started crying.

"Of course , just what I was missing," he said in an irritated tone.

The girl was silent instantly, but her face showed discomfort. Emma noticed it but just rolled her eyes and started writing the letter.

After a while they arrived at their destination and Emma got out of the car with the basket, but not before covering the baby. He entered easily thanks to his powers. He began to walk through the hallways of the company until he found the office he was looking for, as usual his bouncer was outside the door and he ran into someone who worked there who seemed to be a secretary.

-Norman probaly sent me a gift so that I would leave him alone, but that is not to happen...- He was interrupted by the cry of a baby, the three people in the office were stunned.

Pepper approached the basket and uncovered the basket and saw the baby and the letter and read what the envelope said, which said Tony.

-Tony, what did you do?- Pepper said to Tony, surprised.

-I dont have anything to do with that- said the brunette, abruptly taking the letter, opening it, and beginning to read it.

Today with go to 'Taste of sin'- where Elijah died in Kol place and returns a year and half later, as a whole new kind of monster.

Elijah had pushed his body too far ignoring its warnings and he was starving again.

How did he know this, easily.

His hand was rotting, he shifted slightly in the seat of the car, to cause the sleeve of the borrowed hoodie to fall and cover it.

Was it borrowed when it’s past owner was dead, Elijah had never been able to find out for sure, while he still missed his suits, century of using them like armour left him feeling bare without them but the stolen clothes were better than being truly naked like they were when they had returned to the living hell.

Still the oversizedness of the hood made it easy to hide the slowly growing claws as well as the returning rot.

It barely hurt, It was just a cause of annoyance more than anything, feeling his body change without any control of his own.

Skin blackening like it had to have when his body had burnt after the white oak had entered his heart killing him and all his sireline line.

Sending him to the other side where his guilt and self loathing had gained Cade’s attention and he had been torn from the other side and to hell, just as Tristan had found and confronted him on the other side.

A thousand years of hating his new life as a monster only to end up becoming a whole other kind of monster of his own choice.

Because this had been his choice, Cade offered and he accepted, he’d return to the living world with the chance to watch over his remaining siblings in return, he would serve as a servant of Arcadius. 

He wasn’t alone, Cade’s first sirens were a pair so he had his second match. Tristan had ended up being pulled into hell alongside him and since they shared a similar desire that overwrote anything else.

They needed to look after their siblings.

The new hunger for human flesh replacing his thirst for blood was a harsh reminder of what had led him here if he tried to abstain. As they had discovered upon their first return, dragging themself from the lake; weak, staved and so sensitive to the gathering to drunken humans close by.

Thankfully his new life as a monster came with new powers including the ability to sense guilt, which those around the fire had plenty of sins between them. They all died quickly and Tristan and him had had their fill.

Elijah had been washing the blood from himself when the sun and rose and he had frozen as the sun hit his skin without a threat of burning despite his ringless hands. It had been amazing to feel the sun on his skin without any enchantment for the first time in a thousand years.

They had split up that morning, while Elijah had an idea where his siblings had gone, Tristan was unsure where Aurora would go after his death and had left to search for her. 

Tristan hadn’t left however before challenging Elijah to a test of his abilities.

Elijah wasn’t to use any supernatural abilities, no increased speed, telepathy or mind control.

‘A challenge to my former Sire and current brother.’ Tristan had smirked at him in a way that had him raising to the bait before he could think about it.

He had forgotten how impulsive he once was and had seemed to return to with his second rebirth.

Which left him to find a way to travel halfway across the country to New Orleans, without a phone, money or a change of clothes. He knows it’s Tristan’s way to get payback for technically getting him and nearly everything he cared for destroyed for the second time, that it was meant to humiliate him, either he succeeds by lowering himself or fails and proves he was nothing without his powers.

Instead it was unfortunately wearing on his hope for humanity seeing just how sinful every human he came across was.

He had always known humans were capable of the worst of sins, he was a child of an abusive father and a neglectful mother long before he was made into a vampire but he had belief that the good they could do made them better. Now with hitchhiking across the country most those who offer to help only did so out of self gain and cruel desires.

So far two out of ten of those who had helped him and done so out of true concern.

This current one was the second that planned to kill him, but while the last had seen Elijah and decided to give into a long dream of murder, this one had already stained his hands with the blood of innocence before Elijah climbed into his truck. 

Elijah gritted his teeth as his claws and had finished growing and he realised he was going to fail Tristan’s challenge, the last one he had killed without any powers. Still sending his soul to Cade, he kept his word and that was part of the bargain but he had disarmed him and stabbed him with his own knife.

This one Elijah wanted to play with, he could see off his past victims the enjoyment he still took from their suffering as he relieved them in his memories.

Besides he hadn’t really had time to truly experiment with all his new abilities and no doubt he would need them once he reunited with his families to clean up some of his siblings' messes. The last thing he wanted was an accidental repeat of Aurora.

He’s not surprised when they pull over off the side of the road in a deep woodland and a large blade is pulled up and pointed at him.

“Get out.” the man grins.

Elijah nods, biting his cheek to hold in a grin of his own and keeping his eyes down to look scared as he carefully opens the door with his claw in his sleeves.

The remains are scattered once he’s done, claws returned to human hands and skin uncharted and living, the rot chased away until next he ignored his hunger too long. 

No doubt modern science would be able to identify them as human though, likely not who he was, since he was so proud to have never had his DNA taken.

The most fun was how little Elijah had needed to lift a hand, he had found just who to use from the man’s mind and made him see Elijah as them and so had the man begging within moments once he had worked that out.

Although he also realised how to go too far when the visions he had been playing with had accidently caused an apparently serial killer to beat his face into a tree making him unrecognisable.

No matter, that had left him incensed enough that Elijah could have his fill, claws making it far easier to carve flesh free while claiming a wallet with money, a phone and the keys to the car.

He had failed Tristan’s challenge but this was more fun than that pointless self discipline, he had been so controlled and concerned about how he was viewed in his last life and what had that got him?

Dead.  

It might as well be time for a change given everything else in him had changed.

Besides with the phone he could get more information of what he had missed while he was dead, how many bloodbaths had Kol caused and how many territory wars had Klaus started.

It was far easier to fix his siblings' messes if he went in with the knowledge.

And the money and car would mean Elijah would get to New Orleans much quicker and reunite with his siblings sooner.

Always and Forever he had promised and he was going to keep that promise.

Time to introduce my OCs‼️

Oh boy! Here we are!

Since I’m beginning to use tumblr, I can now finally introduce my trio of disasters! I’ve been waiting a while to start talking about them, and I think putting them here is better than info dumping on my private account lol. With that out of the way, let’s go!

VIOLET STARIUS⭐️🌙

(Funfact: She’s the newest of my ocs, being first made only a month or two ago! Loosely inspired by Liko, but she’s changed quite a lot since then!)

The first, and youngest of the trio! Violet is 14 years old, her birthday being January 31st. She’s a curious, intelligent, somewhat shy gal. Kind, empathetic, caring, and wants to help others. She loves space -and in the pokémon version of her- pokémon as well. You’ll find her reading, drawing something, or playing her violin, and while she’s a bit nervous, she’s open to try new things to learn them, as she wants to learn what does the world around her hold! Though, Violet’s a bit forgetful, clumsy, and gets lost easily…She’s also a bit of a people pleaser, and is terrible at lying. The heart of the group, as she’s why the three have managed to form a strong friendship.

Violet has the ability to use telekenesis, via focusing energy using her hand onto objects (or people!) to move them around, to wherever she wants them to go. She can also see in the dark, hear very well, and her eyes glow in the dark for some reason…While she doesn’t like to fight, she’s good at dodging and using the oppenent’s movements against them.

FROST AURORA❄️🏹

The second of the trio! Frost is 15 years old, his birthday is December 25th! He’s a more reserved/aloof guy. He’s also quite smart, especially in terms of tactics and fights! Frost is swift, chilling, and tenacious! Sassy, and he can get angry or spiteful. Despite this, he’s pretty considerate, and stands up for what he believes is right. Frost is somewhat stubborn, antisocial, but he wants to do the right thing. You’ll find him practicing the gutiar, drawing, or thinking. He wants to find his purpose and be strong for those he cares for -even if it means taking drastic measures.

Frost has the power to cool the temperature of stuff to the point it’ll freeze, being able to create ice and snow out of the water droplets in the air. He can manipulate ice too, and he’s skilled with a bow and arrow! He usually goes in for a fast attack, then getting out of the opponent's range until they’ve been defeated, though he knows how to put up a fight in close quarters as well.

CITRINE GOLDENHEART🗡️💛

(I still need to actually draw her, but this will have to do for now. Fun fact, the first concept of her was “what if this cartoon character was in pokémon”)

The last, and the oldest of the three! Citrine is 16 years old, and her birthday is on April 13th! An adventurous, hot-headed, brave and passionate girl. She can be impulsive and sometimes fails to consider the consequences of others, but she means well! Outgoing, reckless, and tackles things head on! She’s the most athletic of the three, being physically strong with good stamina. Citrine’s also very persistent, and will literally refuse to give up. Ever. It’s both one of her greatest strengths and flaws. She likes to play the drums, or go for a run, and…write? I know, surprising, but she loves creating stories, to tell during her journey or inspired by her adventures!

Citrine is real good with a sword, she was very excited when she found one! Turns out she likes stabbing and slashing whatever stands in her way! She’s best in close combat, using her sword to deliver strong attacks to deal a lot of damage! She tends to get hit, but being so perseverant and stubborn allows her to keep fighting until her opponent falls.

I hope that wasn’t too boring to read, but now I’ve introduced my main OCs! I’ll probably ramble about them on here, if you don’t like that sorry lol, this is my blog im the one writing about these idiots at 10 pm

Just finished Emily Windsnap and the Falls of Forgotten Island. Aaron and his family are the BEST parts of this story!! For several reasons...

*WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD*

Jeras gave really in-depth exposition about the entire world of this series. We now got interesting lore not just about the sea and merfolk world, but also about the land and human world. I instantly want to know more about Terra Mater, what she looks like, what culture she’s from, what’s her history with Neptune (beyond wanting to gain power through him), etc. I imagine her being like Te Fiti/Te Ka from Moana

Jeras is a very morally ambiguous but ultimately good guy in the end. Like Mr. Beeston. Except he doesn’t do anything awful in this story. He confesses to doing awful things in the past, is immediately remorseful of it, and immediately does everything in his path to make things right. Even risking his life taking no shelter during a natural catastrophe, swimming through rough seas despite his withered human body to Neptune’s chariot, and successfully persuading Neptune to forgive him and shakes hands which ultimately saves everyone.

Jeras has a beautiful character arc. From an angry bitter self-loathing recluse -- though his self-loathing is rightfully due to causing Aurora and Fortuna’s deaths -- to a kind heroic and altruistic man who suddenly has someone to care about. And hence something to live for.

Jeras’ death in the end may be the first sad ending in this series. Even sadder for Emily, that it leads to Aaron deciding to leave her and stay on the titular Forgotten Island.

Aaron FINALLY stands up for himself!!!! He stands up to Jeras which ultimately sways Jeras to help him. He also stands up to Emily after dealing with several books worth of her selfishness, her constantly misreading him, and her impulsive lashing out at him for things he meant no harm by. He does everything I WISH Jake did in Book 4.

Aaron finally becomes his own person. IMO after Book 4 he kinda got reduced to being just Emily’s boyfriend, always described in relation to her and how he’s similar to her. Since their first kiss, this book is the first to emphasize how he and Emily are more different than similar. We see the many ways he’s different from Emily: he’s more prone to motion sickness, more persuasive, he can both calmly and firmly assert authority. The latter 2 traits I think will make him a great leader of Forgotten Island.

Ultimately I think Emily and Aaron’s relationship was pretty cringe -- they’re terrible at communicating with each other, Emily keeps changing her mind about whether she likes him or not -- so I am SO GLAD they essentially broke up in the end. Come to think of it...every fight between them was started by Emily. By her immediately losing her temper on him, just because she misunderstood a kind gesture on his part, and never giving him a chance to explain himself until it’s too late. Emily doesn’t deserve Aaron. Aaron can do so much better.

Aurora finally shows a personality!! Up to this point we’ve known her only as just Neptune’s first/only love. But now we can see WHY Neptune loved her. She was kind, loved the simple things in life (due to her humble origins), loved her family, was a daddy’s girl, valued true love above all else, and strongly opposed marriages of convenience (at the expense of her life).

FURTHER THOUGHTS:

The plot felt a lot like a hodgepodge of all the other books. Just like Book 2 it starts with Emily and company going to a tropical island. Just like Book 3 Aurora’s death is a huge plot point. Just like Book 4 Emily and Aaron have to save some people trapped behind a magic waterfall that only Neptune can stop (and does). Just like Book 5 Emily and Aaron have to swim through a lake and climb a mountain to save the world from a tsunami. Just like Book 6  this book is pretty slow-paced, and only gets really interesting/suspenseful during the last few chapters.

Mary P. FINALLY redeemed herself in my eyes. I’ve complained about her in Book 4. Honestly she’s the reason I hesitated on finishing this book. SOOO happy to see her back to what made me love her as a character! She was again kind, patient, had a fair balance of firmness and gentleness as a parent, affectionate in ways both physical and verbal with her daughter, bravely put herself in dangerous situations for her daughter, protective of Emily yet still able to let Emily go and be independent, stubborn to an extent yet still listened and followed others’ advice without any pushback. Perhaps in the events between Book 4 and Book 7...Mary took much needed time to reflect on herself and realize she’s been way too stubborn. Notice in this book she never flat out said “NO” to anything. She just needed some extra persuasion to say “YES”. It’s just so nice to see her actually LISTEN to and RESPECT her ENTIRE FAMILY for once.

We see for the first time Emily’s dad ACTUALLY WORK WITH HUMANS. Besides Mary and Millie. In the end he’s helping their rescue/clean-up operation. How frigging cool would that have been to see? After several books worth of his friendliness to humans, and his hard efforts at peace between humans and merfolk, this would be a perfect opportunity to see how it all paid off. It’s a perfect book-end to how he’s introduced in Book 1: rescuing humans at sea. And it ties in with how the hotel manager believed in mermaid sightings, even providing underwater cave rooms for them. Did the hotel manager ever meet Jake? Was he surprised at seeing a real live merman before his very eyes? Or did the manager know this day would come so he’s not surprised at all? How would the hotel staff and guests reacting to seeing a merman rescue them all? Would they be surprised? Would they think he’s just a human swimming in a merman costume? Would they point out the fact he’s male and not like most depictions of mermaids? Would some guests feel their erotic mermaid fantasies are ruined by the presence of a male mermaid XD?

There’s much more nuance now to Mary P. and Jake’s parenting.  Yes Mary’s arguably the firmer parent and Jake the gentler parent. But Mary is now much more patient, listening to her daughter before making a decision. She doesn’t say “YES” as much as Jake, but she never says “NO” either. In fact she often says “I DON’T KNOW”. As said before, Mary just needs extra persuasion in order to say “YES”. On the flip side, Jake is particularly firm about Shona’s wellbeing. He’s often the one reminding Emily to stick with her and keep her safe. Also nice to see he’s backing up Mary more. He may not use her methods, but he will support them by repeating Mary’s concerns to Emily. Jake is no longer just the “fun parent” who lets Mary do all the worrying. He’s no longer just a Yes-man to Emily. He starts setting more firm boundaries with his Yes’.  ( Jake: “All right...but be careful...” “As long as you’re not a burden...”). There’s even a rare moment where they switch roles: Mary’s the chill one not worrying about their daughter, while Jake is the only one acting worried (Jake : “Millie, you’re OK watching Em and Aaron, right?”   Emily: “Dad, we don’t need to be watched...”)

How come Mary suddenly can’t go swimming with Jake? At a seaside resort of all places? Didn’t she relearn how to swim JUST to be with him? And didn’t she take scuba lessons JUST to be with him ( Jake: ”she even took sub-aqua lessons so she could join me underwater...”)? I don’t understand why suddenly the humans and merfolk are each off doing their own activities. The whole reason they picked this resort, was to find things humans and merfolk could do together. This book opens with Mary and Jake gushing over snorkeling at the resort. But when they get there, the only thing we see them do together is eat.

Also how would the human hotel guests interact with Shona? Being a kid it’s less likely she’d be mistaken for a mermaid cosplayer. As might happen with Jake. And given her limited experience with humans, I doubt she’d know how to blend in humans and pass as one. Like Jake did when he and Mary met. But then again the whole point was they don’t have to blend in with humans.

I do wonder how/if hotel guests reacted to seeing a bunch of merfolk guests staying with them. Our merfolk heroes have no reason to hide from humans anymore. Heck the humans even pull up in a boat to watch King Neptune save the day. I do love the ending where for the first time, humans as a collective are the heroes.

This book also gave me “Moana” vibes. Where the characters have to save a tropical island from a natural disaster. The solution involves pebbles and a powerful island land goddess (Terra Mater/Te Fiti).

Also Terra Mater’s background is weirdly vague. Unlike Neptune and Njord, who are clearly straight from Greek and Norse mythology...Terra Mater isn’t from any specific mythology or culture at all. That I know of. We’re not even told what she looks like. Does this mean there’s other gods in the Emily Windsnap-verse? Are there fire gods? Wind gods? Heart gods XD?

There’s some very repetitive filler in this book . How many times do Emily and Shona have to fight and make up? How many times does Emily have to describe lengthy paragraphs of her exact same route in and out of the same “death chute” falls? You could make a drinking game out of counting these things XD.

Is there White Saviorism in this book? We know the movie version will place the Forgotten Island off the coast of Africa. And I think their concept art depicts Emily being White. So the Forgotten Islanders are possibly native Africans. If they’re African, and if their saviors Emily and Aaron are White, and Aaron is described in the books with pale skin.... I sensed some icky White Savior vibes (art below is not mine).

My biggest nitpick with this book is in the ending.  For a story about people with opposing ideologies seeking common ground, it ends with only one ideology being right. The Forgotten Island is split into 2 groups: one who’d rather flee the island ASAP, the other who’d rather stay and wait for a giant to save them. Guess which group’s ideology saves the day. So much for seeking common ground XD.

Overall this is a good book. 7 books down, 2 to go!

DISPOSITION AND TEMPERAMENT.

13. How do they greet the world — what is their typical attitude towards life? How does it differ in different circumstances, or towards different subjects? Why do they take these attitudes, and why do they change? How do these tend to be expressed?

Whoa. Hokay. Hrngh.

It's a complicated question to answer. Aurora is carrying around a great deal of survivor's guilt that she's trying very hard to get past (and not really in the healthiest ways). She was gone when her hometown fell and lost her entire family and all her childhood friends. Then she lost her mentor. It's hard to convince her that none of these tragic events were her fault. She doesn't feel lucky to have avoided similar fates; she feels monstrous and unworthy because of it.

So what Aurora wants to do is to see the world the way she imagines her loved ones would have. She wants to imagine them seeing through her eyes. She wants to give the gift of exploration and life to the ghosts she carries in her heart.

She intends to live life fully. She intends to greet each day with enthusiasm and to make the world as bright and full of promise for as many people living in it as she can. Maybe once she's made this terrible place that hurt the people she loved into something better, something they could have thrived in, maybe she'll feel worthy of living in it too.

The problem with this, of course, is that it's made her impatient. She does not want things to get better in time. She wants them better right now! It makes her rash, impulsive, and maybe too quick to start fights. It's fear that motivates that. If she has to sit and wait for change- she has to face how lonely and unworthy she actually feels. She might have to confront that it'll take more than a bunch of fist fights to overcome the guilt she's carrying around.

14. What do they care deeply about? What kind of loyalties, commitments, moral codes, life philosophies, passions, callings, or spirituality and faith do they have? How do these tend to be expressed?

Aurora cares about people. She is passionate about dismantling systems that oppress people and raising up the people who have felt lost and disenfranchised. She felt that same way for such a long time and she firmly believes that there's a better way.

She's ridiculously loyal. If she gives her word, she'll do everything in her power to keep it. It almost physically pains her to break a promise.

She is heroic and wants her heroudm to be witnessed– not because she wants accolades or to be worshipped, but because she hopes it inspires others to rise up and do the same. She once witnessed Sky's heroism and it inspired her. The world can change far more quickly with armies of people choosing to rise up and be heroes.

15. What kind of inner life do they have — rich and imaginative? Calculating and practical? Full of doubts and fears? Does it find any sort of outlet in their lives?

Like all of my characters, Aurora is very daydreamy. She fantasizes a great deal. Imaginative? Yes. Calculating and practical? No. No, not at all. She's all grand gestures and impulse. She'll run in without a plan to save someone in trouble. It's very heroic! It'd work better if she took a moment to think first probably.

She is, of course, plenty full of doubts and fears. She has narrowly avoided death and watched it take others too many times for her to not be affected by it. She is pathologically afraid of seeing anyone else die and being unable to stop it. She HAS to stop it. Realistically she knows that the time is bound to come again where she can't stop it and the very thought of it puts on the brink of a panic attack.

16. Do they dream? What are those dreams like?

Of course! Not to be boring here, but I think she has all kinds of dreams– like anyone else. I think she likes falling asleep and falling into dreams.

17. Are they more shaped by nature or nurture — who they are, or what has happened to them? How have these shaped who they’ve become as a person?

I already kind of answered this, I think, heh.

She's shaped by both.

She grew up in a fairly prominent family in Thorns who were very well known for putting on elaborate performances. They'd write plays, compose music, design elaborate sets, and then perform them. Aurora was the only one in her extended family who just did not excel at these artistic pursuits. There were plenty of "playful" jests about her being swapped at birth.

She didn't seem to excel at anything at all really. She enjoyed trying every new thing and she was wildly impressed by the skills the rest of her family had, but she never found her own calling. She'd begun to assume she just didn't have one.

She joined the military in hopes she'd find she excelled there. She did not. A growing disdain for her Dragon-blooded generals made it extremely difficult for her to even want to be acknowledged at all. She watched people she grew up with throw their lives away for the glory of vain, cruel, spoiled leaders and it sickened her to the point she defected and attempted to disappear into the night… only to meet Unbroken Sky Full of Song, a Solar exalt.

His burning anima alerted the Dragon-blooded generals to him and in the pivotal moment Aurora chose to fight with him and protect him rather than her old leaders.

Unable to return home after that (as she'd surely be killed for her actions), she traveled with Sky. While with him, Thorns fell.

And later so did Sky.

She is shaped by these events in that they motivate her to become stronger so that she can avenge the people she lost and so she can make the world better for the people still living in it.

And hopefully forgive herself along the way.

18. What kind of person could they become in the future? What are some developmental paths that they could take, (best, worst, most likely?) what would cause them to come to pass, and what consequences might they have? What paths would you especially like to see, and why?

Aaaaargh. I dunno! Damn!

Uhhhh…

Best: She discovers her own self-worth and starts living for herself just as much as she lives for others. She opens herself up to love people (including herself!) deeply and honestly and isn't hampered by the fear of loss.

Worst: Her fear of things going wrong and of seeing loved ones die turns her into a paranoid tyrant. So desperate to control every situation, she ignores what people wants and "protects" them in oppressive and restrictive ways before completely cracking under the pressure.

Most likely: I don't know! Eventually the first would be nice! But that feels very end-game. It's got to be a process to get there. I think seeing hints of the best outcome and the worst outcome in different moments is the best way to go.

Maybe she'll have moments where a situation has her panicking so hard that she becomes paranoid and overbearing. Maybe she makes a bad situation even worse.

And maybe she'll have moments where she realizes she's just as worthy of all the great things she wants for other people and she can lean into that and genuinely feel at peace. Maybe this could lead to powerful character growth!

philip was sent to elias with his brothers by their father for their safety. they had come in disguise, trying to live out as normal people and told to lay low by his father but the charmonts are on the side of more notable royals given florian and philip’s time in the media.

he reunited with aurora, the girl he had met in the forest when he was eighteen and fell in love with. in a twist of fate it turns out that aurora and he were betrothed. they wasted no time marrying in a private ceremony after reuniting

a normal life is all philip has ever wanted and now he has been granted that with aurora. they live in a little bubble of bliss and while it might look selfish to others for philip to drop his duties as a prince to play house.

deep down he’s searching for purpose. outside of a prince, philip doesn’t really know who he is. from birth, there were expectations placed upon him. he feels as though he has not met any of them. mostly due to choice. he’s always wanted more in life. he wanted to be more, do more. who is he beyond the crown ? who is philip charmont actually to his core ?

he keeps the facade up that all is fine. philip is someone who would rather present that he’s happy to keep everyone from worrying about him even when he’s actually not okay. he does this because he’s been the mediator for his brothers for so long. in his mind, philip’s problems always felt miniscule compared to kit and florian’s. philip is in fact worried about what is to come.  he’s never doubted his skills until now. maleficent is powerful. philip fears he may not be strong enough this time.

he now has a job as a personal trainer at the achilles gym. it’s another piece of normality he’s collected. it’s also allowed him to begin being independant - earning his own way through the world and helping people in some way.

update 06/01/23: almost a year ago philip was cursed by maleficent with a sleeping spell. he was in a sleep coma for six months. it’s been a few months since he’s woken up. that doesn’t mean he’s processed the trauma of it. because of the institution he was raised that allowing space for emotions, philip has shoved down any feelings he has about the situation. he’s grinning and bearing it. faking it until he makes it because that’s what he was taught to do: smile and wave. of course ! this isn’t going to end well ! but alas !

the youngest of the charmont sons, he was expected to be just as perfect as his older brothers. however, philip was always wild. not in the same sense as florian was, but in the sense that he could never sit still. if you were ever looking for philip you would never find him where he needed to be. he was always out in nature, the stables or in town.

he doesn’t remember much of his mother her last few months. philip doesn’t know if that’s because his brother didn’t allow him to be around their mom when she was ill or because philip didn’t want to remember her like that. he only remembers the good.

he was close to his mother but not as close as florian. philip loves and respects his father but he knows that the king puts a bit more focus on kit given he’s the next in line for the throne. if he had to pick a parental figure he was closest to it would be kit. at times philip feels his older brother raised him more than their own father.

philip played middle man between his brother’s feud. he saw both sides and did what he could to ease tension in the castle.

philip was expected to be king of some kingdom. hubert was determined to marry off his sons. he had been betrothed to a princess in ylisse when he was young but after her disappearance it was broken off. leaving king hubert to find someone else for his son. philip would always turn away the girls his father had in mind for him. he wanted to marry for love not for status.

he never cared much for his royal status. philip was always gallivanting off to anything but his duties. he dreamed of a normal life. one where so much wasn’t expected of him. he wanted to go places without people knowing who he was or having these ideas about who he was as a person. he just wanted to be philip a regular guy. not philip charmont prince of ulstead.

their alliance with ylisse is what caused maleficent to threaten the kingdom of ulstead. philip fought his father on leaving. he begged the kingdom not to send them away. philip believed he could stay and fight. his father was weak, someone had to protect him and their people. it was kit who knocked sense into him and urged philip to listen to their father. he was sending them to elias for their protection. so he agreed to leave if only to ease the king’s mind but he wouldn’t leave without putting up a fight.

future

with being married to aurora, philip will have to learn to be king. something he never expected but something that was expected from him. it’s a new learning curve. in a way i hope it’ll bring him and kit closer since he’ll see what his brother had dealt with all along.

i want philip to realize that his purpose was right in front of him all along. he doesn’t need to go on grand adventures to make a name for himself to help and save people. although he shunned the idea of royalty for so long his status is what will help him be the hero he always wanted to be. using it for good and helping his people is how he will bring change. it will also i feel bring him peace to finally stop fighting with that part of himself.

lots of maturing for this guy. he lives in a fantasy and i love that about my sweet himbo but he still has a lot of growing up to do. it’s always been so easy for him to brush off his problems or not speak about them but i want philip to actually deal with his emotions, acknowledge them and stop putting others before himself. he deserves the happiness he fights for everyone else to have.

some audrey headcanons !

audrey has always been closer with her grandmother than either of her parents. queen leah was extremely hands on during all of audrey's childhood, likely out of the trauma of not being able to raise her own daughter. aurora and phillip were both raised in very traditional kingdoms and by very traditional families, and did not see a purpose in deviating from queen leah's rules.

audrey grew up adored by her parents, and her grandmother -- so long as she played by the rules. from a young age, she was raised to be every inch a proper princess: use your voice sparingly, sacrifice for your kingdom, maintain your nobility, create a new and stronger dynastic line than the last. do what you're told by your betters, until the moment you must take the reins yourself. in short, achieve perfection.

though she was raised with ben and had always idolized him, audrey did not realize that behind the scenes, leah was arranging an actual engagement for them.

in her own way, audrey did love ben -- out of everyone she grew up with, he was the only person who was genuinely kind, who listened to her beyond the façade of aurora's daughter and heir. he let her be messy and never told on her. he made her feel safe in a way she had never expected, and in turn she vowed to keep his secrets to her grave.

following the events of d1, audrey agonizes over her relationship with chad. her choosing him might have seemed impulsive, but at her core, audrey is leah's granddaughter and she is dutiful to the bone; you make the best dynastic match. you are married off to the best choice. and she has always liked chad as a friend, but suddenly without the safety of ben's companionship and their relationship, she's left reeling and feels her distinct lack of romantic love for him.

her losing ben's favor and failing to win it back marks the most disappointed her grandmother has ever been in her -- she has not only lost ben and a lifetime of plans, but the future of her family's status is now on her shoulders and she's failing, possibly ruining their centuries long legacy.

audrey is terrified to confide her fears and heartbreak in her mother because as much as she admires her grandmother, audrey sees her mother as perfect. the model of what a princess should be -- of what she should be. how can she let down the most amazing role model in her life?

unfortunately, bottling things up is simply never the right answer.

personally, I see maleficent's magic working strongest on those who are already susceptible to it -- the more they feel that they are broken in some way, missing something, the stronger the call. audrey was largely possessed by maleficent's magic in an attempt by maleficent to regain her staff once again. many of audrey's memories of d3 are indistinct and feel as if they were happening to someone else as a result.

in verses where ben apologizes to audrey and she to ben and they hash things out before d3, she doesn't curse him on purpose. instead, she tries to break free of the staff's power and confide in Ben, but all of her repressed fears of being the thing she hates most, a failure, lash out of her and Ben is caught in the crossfire. afraid and disgusted with herself, she runs -- and begins a downward descent of turning into a monster herself.

TL;DR

Charlie is the first nephilim of current times. He was born when his father Amenadiel impregnated human Linda Martin. He didn't gain his wings until he was two years old because his father had been weakened when his conception happened. His younger cousin Aurora was born shortly after his second birthday and they settled into a mostly friendly rivalry of which one could gain control of their powers faster and become stronger. His childhood was full of visits from his father who had taken over being God. When he turned 18, Charlie joined the fire academy and hasn't looked back from helping humans in this way since.

FULL BIO

Charlie Martin was born on March 25, 2019 to human mother Linda Martin and archangel father Amenadiel. He was named after Charlotte Richards, a human that had become very dear to his father's heart. His life was very eventful in the first few days as he was kidnapped by demons with hopes of raising him to become the new King of Hell. Luckily, his father and Uncle Lucifer were able to save him from the demons and return him to his mother. While he was still a young infant, his Uncle Michael gave him the common cold to prove that he was merely mortal and send Amenadiel into a panic that might draw God out of hiding. The plan worked and when God met his grandson he agreed that he appeared mortal, but fell in love with Charlie instantly.

Amenadiel begged his father to allow Charlie to become immortal, even offering up his own angelic status. God denied this and remained close to his grandson until he retired to the Void with Goddess a few months later. After some back and forth with who should replace God, Amenadiel eventually took over the position. Charlie remained one of his top priorities, however, and helped Linda raise him whenever he could get himself away from Heaven. Amenadiel saw to it that he never missed any of Charlie's milestones, his favorite by far was when Charlie sprouted angel wings similar to his father's on his second birthday. Only a few short weeks after this, Charlie's cousin Aurora was born, the daughter of Chloe Decker and the vanished Lucifer.

Growing up together, the two Nephilim entered a mostly friendly rivalry, trying to race each other in any way possible. They wanted to see who could control their powers faster, who could be the better flier, and who could become the strongest. By the time that Charlie entered high school he was able to control his strength and powers enough to participate in nearly every sport he could. He had always enjoyed being among the humans which was highly encouraged by both of his parents. Upon graduation, Charlie enrolled in the LA fire academy, much to his mother's chagrin. He had been inspired by his father's stories of the brief time period he'd wanted to be a police officer, inspired by his late friend Dan Espinoza, but Charlie wanted no part in policing. Saving the people that literally ran into fires to save other people though? It felt like his calling.

Charlie knew that the LAFD couldn't be his forever as his aging slowed to a stop around twenty, he was insistent on enjoying his time there. By this time, he had gained control over dimensional travel and would sometimes visit his father in Heaven when he couldn't find time to pull away from it. When it should have been his thirtieth birthday, he ultimately decided that he would leave Los Angeles in pursuit of other fire departments, starting over as a recruit and working for a few years before moving on once more. His mother was retired at this point and followed him from town to town, not wanting to miss out on time with him. Charlie remained on the Western side of the US, close to LA to visit Aurora and the rest of their found family there within a day's drive as his mother was not keen on being a passenger with his angelic flight.

His mother's death wasn't easy on him, though he knew it was fortunate that it could have been a lot more difficult. He could still visit her in Heaven whenever he wanted, but it would never be the same as having her on Earth with him. As far as he was concerned, his fight wasn't over in protecting humans, though he did tend to spend a bit more time in Heaven after she was gone. A few short years later, Chloe Decker was on her death bed and Charlie quit his job in Madrid, Spain and returned to Los Angeles to be with his cousins Aurora and Trixie. Watching as her mother was dying and her father still never even showed up to say goodbye to Chloe who was still so in love with him angered Aurora enough to self-actualize into the past. When she disappeared, Charlie fled to Heaven to ask his father for help in finding her.

His father's calm and all-knowing demeanor when he explained that Aurora would be back in due time pissed him off. All of these years, Amenadiel and Linda remained loyal to Chloe and Lucifer in keeping him in the dark about his Uncle's true past as well. Aurora needed to return to the past to help Lucifer realize his true calling and realize herself that Lucifer's absence was what shaped her into what she was today. An annoyed and still in the dark Charlie returned to Los Angeles to be with Trixie. As his father had stated, Aurora returned back to the present with peace of who she and her father were and the three stayed with Chloe until she died. After this, Charlie continued his path with visiting different fire departments all around the world, but he kept himself close to his cousins and Aunts Maze and Eve. He still spends a good amount of time in Heaven and also sometimes accompanies Rory to Hell to see his uncle.
