Review: Cited to Death: A Jamie Brodie Mystery (Jamie Brodie Mysteries Book 1) by Meg Perry
Rating: 4.25🌈 I love a mystery. So give me a new-to-me author, a mystery novel that represents not one but two connected mystery series and I’m in. Cited to Death: A Jamie Brodie Mystery (Jamie Brodie Mysteries Book 1) by Meg Perry is all the above. This is a first book by Perry for me and I was very entertained by the mystery and invested in the characters Perry has created for her…

🍸 character who inspired your mc
🌱 book that inspired your wip
🐠 author who inspires you
🍯 author you know
🍄 name a song that represents your mc
🌾 book you would / have writ(t)e(n) fanfic for
🍸 character who inspired your mc Emmett - It took some figuring out when I restarted Thief of Hearts after 9 years (and trying to tell by the date of the original note with its premise), but I still find it sort of funny that I took a serial killer from Criminal Minds (episode 3x02 if you're curious, I made someone cutting out hearts a little more metaphorical, but not by much, and gave him a much less forgettable name than what IMDB claims is Joe Smith) and went 'what if you weren't the villain actually' and ended up with a whole novel. Although this isn't an abnormal way for me to get a story. (Just ask Emma from Magic & Silver) Rory - Meg Galligan/Galloway (depends on whether you mean book or movie version) See below
🌱 book that inspired your wip I did a Tolkien and Birnam Wood on Northern Lights by Nora Roberts, believe it or not. (Ok I liked the book just fine but kept wondering when the lights were going to become really plot relevant.) And I ended up weirdly fond of Meg, half of the main character duo and feisty without leaning into overly 'strong female character', and managed to be tough, jaded, vulnerable, and damaged at the same time. Some of that 'everyone at arms' distance so no one can hurt you anymore' definitely bled over into Rory (although I may actually have dialed it up a little...a lot).
🐠 author who inspires you Right now I'm going a little feral over Jules Dyrud, an indie author I found through Bookstagram. Her book Majesties is wrecking my heart (I picked it up thinking it would be a good comp for Thief of Hearts and honestly I look kind as an author in comparison to what she's put her main character through). I love finding writers who don't shy away from tackling brutal topics and yet do it with grace and sensititivity.
🍯 author you know Erin Bartels from my home state of Michigan! My parents worked at a summer camp with some of her family so when her first book came out we went to her signing to support her, and while it took me a few years to actually read her novels, I quickly found out she was the kind of writer I can't get enough of and I eagerly await each new book and the accompanying author visits to my local bookstore!
🍄 name a song that represents your mc Emmett - Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri Rory - Seven Devils by Florence + the Machine
🌾 book you would / have writ(t)e(n) fanfic for Dracula! I don't do a lot of book fanfiction (maybe because books feel more complete to me than most movies/shows) but the characters from that one have a piece of my heart forever and sometimes I just need to yell about it in the form of fic about their precious little found family.
Thanks for the ask!!

Post-AGT Appearance 1231: Merloni, Fauria and Mego December 5
The songs would have continued to sink over the weekend.
Christine McVie would never have been on the list of suspects individually but Fleetwood Mac as a team would have always been on the list, presently 64th.  Gaylord Perry would have started in 91st place, peaked at 90th, dropped out of the top 100 in 2019, returned briefly twice in 2021 before dropping out again.  No one would ask but I would authorized the listed comment Friday.  The first to mention it would be my friend Lou Merloni.  His show is now called Merloni, Fauria and Mego.  The new person is Boston Herald columnist Meghan Ottolini.  The show is on 2 to 6 pm on WEEI in Boston.  They would start a segment late in the first hour by playing my little ditty about Lou Merloni as posted 7 years ago and written when he played for the Red Sox.
Fauria: well that little introduction means Lou has an update about our friend Phil Cole.  What is it, Lou?
Merloni: Well, Chris and Meg, the baseball world is mourning the death of Hall of Fame spitballer Gaylord Perry.
Fauria: Did you ever face him?
Merloni: I’m not that old!  Anyway the gambling world is wondering if he might be the last name on that list of celebrities that make Phillip sick.
Ottolini: What’s that all about?
Fauria: His performance is called Phillip and Cole’s Variety Team, but really he’s a one man team.  He does these characters and one of them is called Phillip the Boston intellectual.
Merloni: And tell her: what’s the difference between Phil and Phillip?
Fauria: Phil’s just a regular guy who grew up in Boston and uh, Phillip is a Boston intellectual who gets sick when he hears the names of famous and annoying celebrities.
Ottolini: Such as?
Merloni: Well, Donald Trump for one.
Fauria: So he’s always sick.
Merloni: Howard Stern, Alan Dershowitz.
Fauria: O. J. Simpson...Dennis Rodman...disgusting people.
Ottolini: So...
Fauria: One name is secret and everyone wants to know who it is.
Ottolini: Is he telling us now?
Merloni: No, but it wasn’t Gaylord Perry.  He released a statement.  It says:
PBC: Phillip and Cole’s Variety Team objects to all cheaters and those who profit by cheating, but Gaylord Perry was not the last name on Phillip’s list.
Fauria: What a surprise.
Ottolini: So, when will he tell us?
Fauria: If the right one dies I guess.
Ottolini: That might take...years.
Merloni: It has!  How long ago did we meet him, Chris?
Fauria: It must be...my God, 2015.
Merloni: Time flies.
Ottolini: So people are betting on this?
Merloni: All over the world.  I’ve got a list of the top 100 bets right here.  It’s not the newest list but...
Fauria: Are there any sports people on it?
Merloni: Yes, let’s see...Oh. no...Ted Turner is 16th place.
Ottolini: That covers sports, business, politics and celebrity.
Merloni: And Jane Fonda is in the top 10.
Ottolini: Somehow when I think of Jane Fonda the first thing I think of is not the Atlanta Braves.
Merloni, You’re not a Boston intellectual, Mego.
Ottolini: Thanks, ha ha.
Fauria: What about Belichick?
Merloni: Uhhhh
Fauria: Or Brady.
Merloni: Yes, here he is.  Belichick is 45th on the list and Brady...I just saw it, 57th.
Ottolini: So, do you think it might be one of them?
Merloni : I heard...he told a Brady joke long ago.
Ottolini: Inflated balls?
Merloni: That’s it.  He found a deflated ball behind the dresser so maybe his wife is having an affair with Tom Brady.
Ottolini: Ha ha ha.
Fauria: He he.
Ottolini: So I guess it’s not Tom Brady.
Merloni: Not necessarily.  He can’t talk about the people on his list too much because it makes Phillip sick.  So if he makes a lot of jokes about someone it’s usually evidence it’s not him.
Ottolini: So who do you guys think it is?
Fauria: Well if it’s sports it might go back to the 70s, maybe Keith Magnuson or one of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Ottolini: Bobby Clarke.
Merloni: Someone like that.
Fauria: Maybe Laimbeer and Mahorn.
Merloni: It could be Boston politics, someone like John Kerry.
Ottolini: And we won’t find out until the person dies?
Merloni: We can have fun with these updates forever.  You’re next on WEEI the sports hub.

Ultimate MBTI Fictional Characters List
Disclaimer: whenever I’m refering to a literary character, I am going to specify the name of the author of the literary work that he belongs to and its original publication date; instead, whenever I’m refering to a cinematic or a tv character, I’m going to specify only the period of time in which the movie or tv show I’m talking about was on air. Review: Stoned to Death: A Jamie Brodie Mystery (Jamie Brodie Mysteries Book 8) by Meg Perry
Rating: 3🌈 Stoned to Death is book 8 and I’ve already bought two more, but based on this, and the reviews I just read yesterday for book 22 , released oddly enough in 2022, I think I can say I’m done with this series and probably Meg Perry. And that’s a shame because I’ve really enjoyed the mystery aspects of the series, the dynamics between the Brodie family, and getting to see the interesting…

Twilight (2008) Soundtrack: A Time Capsule of the Tweenage Phenomenon
Dude Notes: This one was requested by my good friend Meg, and is my first film soundtrack review. Here goes nothing!
When I first was contacted to write this review, I thought to myself: How the hell am I going to do this? I was never big on movie soundtracks growing up, preferring instead the much more user-friendly musical soundtracks a la Phantom of the Opera or The Lion King. Those, at least, knew how to tell a story through music. Or, that’s at least what I thought before diving into this.
The soundtrack to Twilight doesn’t really do the best job of telling the story of the film (or the book, for that matter; a hopelessly romantic love triangle between a vampire, werewolf, and a mortal girl who just can’t seem to choose between the two of them for a solid two novels out of the four book-long series), but that’s not really the point here. Most film soundtracks are meant to be there as backdrops to the film itself, noticeable exceptions aside (looking at you, Howard Shore), and this one does its job. Songs like “Supermassive Black Hole” and “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” do a fairly decent job at covering both sides of the “love” aspect of the film, the former being a testament to the early, exciting, forbidden love between Edward and Bella, and the latter showcasing the more mellow emotions that often blossom between two young (or in this case, young-ish) teenagers who truly have feelings for one another.
The rest of these songs, barring Perry Farrell’s god-awful “Go All the Way (Into the Twilight)”* are more than serviceable at displaying the angst both the author and the film’s producers definitely want the intended audience of this film to feel, with two cuts by Paramore being highlights: “Decode”, about how Edward can’t read Bella’s mind, and how that affects their relationship; and “I Caught Myself”,  presumably about whether or not Bella really wants to continue the relationship she’s in with a dangerous vampire who may or may not one day either turn her or drink her blood, killing her.  So, bottom line: Would I recommend this? Probably not, unless you enjoy compilations about supernatural teenage angst; which, in this day and age, is anyone’s guess. Though I will say this: it is a fascinating document in a really weird time in American cultural history, a period of five years where this and its sequels was pretty much all anyone really wanted to talk about, if you were in middle or high school, and that’s definitely worth something to the right people.
*This song is so bad that I’m convinced they added it in here strictly because it had the name of the move in the title.

Chapter II [26:37]
In Which No One Tells Holland She's Crazy, People Love Their Greeting Cards, The Drunk Booksellers Marvel at Novel Neighbor's Ability to Handsell Events, and We Reiterate that Bookstores are a Business (whaaaa?)
The Novel Neighbor: More Than A Bookstore
The Novel Neighbor is not just a bookstore. In addition to author events, they host birthday parties, summer camps, bookstore yoga, and adult classes (like continuing ed, but sexier), among other things (sorry Amanda!).
Recommended reading for staff retreats:
StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath
168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think by Laura VanderKam
Beware of squirreling, y'all.
  Chapter III [47:06]
In Which We Move From Books to Books, Talk About Hybridity, and We Finally Meet a Bookseller Who Has Read Harry Potter
Book Description Guaranteed to Get You Reading
Anything meets anything. NOT "It's the next" NOT EVERYTHING IS THE NEXT HUNGER GAMES, Y'ALL. Hybridity.
Holland loved a book that was Comic Con meets The Help. FYI, it's called The Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson.
Emma recommends Hawkeye by Matt Friction. It's Buffy meets Veronica Mars. Which apparently is listed on Emma's shelf talker. But, like, who reads those?
Desert Island Pick
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Emma hasn't finished The Secret Garden, but The Little Princess might be Emma's Desert Island pick. That said, she hearts Mandy by Julie Andrews, which is kinda the same thing, so that counts, right?
Station Eleven Picks
Practical: anything from the Did you Know shelf, such as How to Stay Alive in the Woods: A Complete Guide to Food, Shelter and Self-Preservation Anywhere by Bradford Angier
Political: Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President by Candice Millard
Wild Pick
The Amazing Adventures of a Nobody and The Kindness Diaries: One Man's Quest to Ignite Goodwill and Transform Lives Around the World by Leon Logothetis
Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama
Bookseller Confession
Holland hated Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff and The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney. Also, she never read Catcher in the Rye, which both Kim and Emma are totally okay with. Emma says you should skip Catcher and read Franny and Zooey.
Shout out to a bookseller who has actually read Harry Potter.
Go-To Handsell
Best book Holland has read since she opened the bookstore (whoa): The One-In-A-Million Boy by Monica Wood

New Post has been published on https://shovelnews.com/just-a-ranking-of-every-stupid-role-ruby-rose-has-ever-played/
Just A Ranking Of Every Stupid Role Ruby Rose Has Ever Played
Before she was Batwoman, she was a sexy she-wolf named Byanka.
Australia’s own Ruby Rose has just been announced to star as Batwoman in DC’s TV universe. If you’re not familiar with her work, should you be excited?
Ruby Rose has been carving out a curious niche in the acting world for a few years now, with her role in Orange is the New Black’s third season launching her to overseas success. She will play Kate Kane in a big DC TV crossover later this year, and potentially go on to star as the Jewish lesbian crime fighter in her own Batwoman show.
Given that Ruby Rose has been steadily gaining bigger and bigger roles in blockbusters – including giant-shark film The Meg, which is just around the corner — playing Batwoman could really cement her stardom. Although if you go by The Meg’s IMDb page, she already is a star: according to IMDb’s STARMeter, Rose gets top billing over Jason Statham.
As a star, Rose is defined by a weird, inexplicable aura that permeates all her roles. She’s defined by Ruby Rose Energy.
Now, you’re probably familiar with the concept of Big Dick Energy, but you may not have heard of Ruby Rose Energy. Ruby Rose Energy is Big Dick Energy’s non-binary cousin. Ruby Rose Energy is effortlessly cool, but also quietly daggy.
It’s becoming a movie and TV star while always being slightly unable to escape your past as an MTV Australia VJ, or someone who got into a brief Twitter feud with Josh Thomas over unpaid Veuve at a Melbourne club. It’s having real life charisma disproportionate to what necessarily translates on screen — just like the good old days!
Ruby Rose Energy is being the first person to quit The 7pm Project. It’s not being recognisable to virtually anyone over 40, and dating a Veronica in the year 2018. As one commenter said on yesterday’s casting news, “she’s like, everything”.
Make no mistake – this is a loving tribute to Ruby Rose and the utterly specific, weird space she has carved out in Australian pop culture since the early 2000s. There’s a lot you can learn about Ruby Rose Energy from the names of characters she plays, so here’s a ranking of all the character names she is credited with playing on IMDb – ranked by least-to-most Ruby Rose Energy.
Queer women: Please cast out queer actors in queer roles!!! CW: *casts Ruby Rose* Queer women: This is an attack

Presumably as a result of some mix-up on the first day on set that no one was brave enough to correct, the name of Ruby Rose’s character in this cliché-ridden Australian spin on Dangerous Minds is Hannah, while Christina Ricci’s is, no joke, Dino Chalmers.
It is with great regret that I must place Hannah at the bottom of this list, and that I cannot officially say that Dino motherfuckin’ Chalmers is a perfect exemplar of Ruby Rose Energy.
Though her performance was terrific as a woman who more or less does nothing until she gets hilariously sucked into a giant fan, the character’s name — Abigail — has very low Ruby Rose Energy and, as such, sits near the bottom of the list.
Abigail is the name of a pretty girl you pretend to like in primary school so people don’t think you’re gay, not the name of a character played by devastatingly handsome genderfluid star Ruby Rose.
Though I will never watch this weird Crocodile Dundee tourism ad, I do appreciate the rich complexity of giving a Ruby Rose character a title and a position of authority. That said, in its most Ruby Rose form, ‘Chief’ would be the character’s given name, and as such it falls on the lower end of the scale.
Ruby Rose plays a mute assassin in the John Wick franchise, and her character is named for the Greek god of war – which means we’re getting to the good shit.
But beyond the strong concept, it feels a bit pianissimo in execution; may I suggest it lengthens in John Wick: Chapter 3 to ‘Ares McIliad’ or perhaps ‘Ares Bazooka’?
Ruby Rose Energy is about throwing subtlety to the wind.
I know what you’re thinking: what name could possibly be more Ruby Rose than ‘Ruby Rose’?
Well, since her full birth name is Ruby Rose Langenheim, ‘Ruby Rose’ is technically only 44% of that, meaning it’s slightly below average Ruby Rose Energy.
My interest in Pitch Perfect 3: Aca-merican Imperialism is precisely zero, but Calamity is exactly the kind of Ruby Rose character name I come to IMDb to see.
Less impressive is the movie thinking that Ruby Rose-as-Calamity would be the front-woman of a generic guitar band called Evermoist instead of the lead singer of a desperately edgy Christian lady-rock group called SHEviticus, or GALatians, or The GeneSisters, and so on.
Calamity has the toughness of Ruby Rose Energy, but lacks that certain je ne sais quoi.
Where were you when all of America discovered Stella Carlin, and thus Ruby Rose, at once?
Was it the same place you were when Ruby tweeted about Katy Perry’s Witness, calling it “purposeful poop” and “bomb a petit”? Or when she threw a “singular fry” at a restaurant owner?
No name on this list better exemplifies the Ruby Rose Energy tendency to get into beefs with low-grade celebs that no one but tabloids would ever care about. Stella Carlin is what happens when Ruby Rose Energy gets captured in essence but lost in translation.
It’s trying just a little bit too hard.
The beauty of the current Golden Age of Ruby Rose Character Names is how often the names just sound like full sentences in and of themselves.
Adele Wolff.
I already feel like I’ve known this character my whole life. Like I’ve already followed her journey from digital marketing graduate to Instafamous, gluten intolerant Byron Bay-based wellness blogger, which I am convinced is where Ruby Rose would be at without her tattoos.
Jaxx Herd is, frankly, incredible.

— Ruby Rose (@RubyRose) July 31, 2018
What’s even more incredible is that this Ruby Rose character looks more like the human reboot of Charlize Theron’s haircut in Aeon Flux than any of the others (and they all do, a little) and honestly, I’m here for it.
Wikipedia says Bianca, but IMDb says Byanka, which is so Ruby Rose I can’t stand it.
And truly, is the root of the human condition not the internal war we wage over whether we are a Bianca or a Byanka?
Anyway, this movie looks bananas, Ruby Rose’s character is an overly sexualised she-wolf, and the script was co-written by someone who goes by the name ‘1kg Sugar’.
If the idea of Ruby Rose playing a character named Wendy the Android (lol) on a Canadian sci-fi show makes you think, “Huh, I wonder if they made her a horny killer fuckbot?”
The answer, unequivocally, is yes.
That they named her Wendy like she’s one of the nice mums working at a primary school tuckshop is just *Italian chef kiss* molto bene. It’s the perfect combination of ‘maybe this is the next step in human evolution’ and ‘Lorna Jane loyalty card owner’.
TheDailyMail.com Seriously Popular™ People’s Choice Award-loser Ruby Rose as… Woman.
That’s it, kids.
That’s Ruby Rose Energy.
