I was gonna wait to post this for the beginning of Autism Acceptance Month. But I can't stop thinking about it so posting early~
Do you have anyone from history that you think was autistic? I'd love to know! It would be cool to make a book about all the historical figures who might've been autistic.
*edit* I made a really silly date typo and changed that, but very sorry for everyone reblogging the most basic of date-errors on a comic about history lmao

Autism Acceptance Month Fact #4
The term autism was first used in 1908 by the Swiss doctor Eugen Bleuler in reference to Schizophrenic patients who would withdraw into themselves as a coping/defense mechanism when faced with situations or experiences that caused them distress.
Modern autism is something very very different.

Found this website called The Autism History Project. It was created by Ellen Herman and I thought it would be a wonderful resource for this blog. Here's an excerpt from the about page:
"This website profiles people, ideas, and topics that shaped autism throughout the twentieth century and presents an archive of sources that illuminate that history. It is for everyone interested in autism as well as anyone interested in medicine and the human sciences, health and social welfare, development and disability, and the history of children and families in the modern United States."

oh my god. Not only did Judy Singer steal neurodiversity from kassiane asasumasu, who is woc, she's also transphobic 🤦‍♂️
Yup! People didn't want to believe any of it for years. Good think Nick Walker set everyone straight. Kassiane has literally had to fight her whole life for respect.

ok so we know about the need to infodump, but what about the opposite? The need to absorb more information about your special interest like a sponge, but you literally can’t find any new material because you’ve already consumed every fact about it

The more I learn about world history, about how work, and society, and life in general worked in ancient, pre-colonial, pre-capitalist history, it makes me wonder about how we define neurodivergant people.
Does being neurodivergant mean there is something wrong with your nature, or does it mean that it's harder for you to act unnaturally?
Because if you've ever glanced at an anthropology book you'll know there's nothing natural about how capistalists expect people to work.

Love how Maomao isnt the 'spawned out of the ether' kind of autistic you often see in media. She is very clearly the daughter of two autistic (& otherwise neurodivergent) people. As well as having, at the very least, an autistic grand uncle.
Like thats some real autistic rep right there. Got a family history of autism, accociated trauma and all. I love it.

Incorruptible Pt 10
2 updates in one day! My obsession knows no bounds!
This first page is the embodiment of me reading various first hand accounts of Robespierre and thinking 'that sounds less like arrogance and more like autism to me'.

Stained glass windows in the administrative building of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was one of the largest in the Soviet Union and the poster child of the Soviet nuclear power industry. As such, little expense was spared on details like these windows.
The Soviet Union often used motifs in abstract art to promote Communism and laude their successes.
