Project A-Ko
ćƒ—ćƒć‚ø悧ć‚ÆćƒˆA子
(Anime)
Action Comedy series
Era: 1980s
Rating: Project A-Ko: S, 2: B, 3: C, 4: C Overall:A
Plot: Girls doing AMAZING things.
Thoughts: Considered doing the OVAs on a different post, but I'll just do everything here at once since it's a continuity. Anyway, this has a very Gainax "we love what we do and we love doing it" feeling to it, and many people working here would a couple of years later be doing animation for Gunbuster, and it even feels like something the studio would do. Along the copious fanservice (in both senses) and cheesy 80s music, there's a city rebuilt after a spaceship crashed on top of it, and our main girl Eiko "A-Ko" Magami, who for some never explained reason is inhumanely fast and strong, Shill "C-Ko" Kotobuki, the kinda ditzy crybaby who's incredibly attached to her and loves her more than anything in the world and Biko "B-Ko" Daitokuji, who wants to break them apart and take C-Ko to herself, using increasingly bigger mechas (never explained how she built them) to settle a dispute she had in kindergarten with A-Ko. In the middle of them wrecking their school and then the city there's an alien invasion led by an alcoholic captain, searching for a lost princess who they believe to be C-Ko. Guess what, also never explained if that's true or not. We're just here for 80s cheesy music, the vibes and explosions, and boy, there's a lot of that here. Visually, it's not that different from your average TV anime of the time, only with that often elusive thing called "budget for Inbetweens". Great fun. That scene of A-Ko jumping between missiles? Classic.
Moving on to 1987 and Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group, the first of the OVA sequels. It's a few weeks after the alien spaceship crashed, and they turned into an hotel and resort hoping to pay for the repairs. Meanwhile, Hikaru Daitokuji, B-Ko's dad and military contractor is interested in getting the technology of the alien spaceship for his own use. All in all, it adds a bit more fun and to the story, while not being exactly a must see. Also adds one of the best gremlin faces I've ever seen that is going to get it's own post. Following that, the third OVA, Cinderella Rhapsody (1988) brings another love triangle to the mix with the addition of Kei, a quiet biker to the mix, with the usual consequences for the poor spaceship when A-Ko and B-Ko get a bit too intense over him. A new bit of information is that their bickering and the presence of the alien spaceship has become a bit too frequent and there's a voluntary municipal defense force with its own super robots to control damage, and that A-Ko's bracelets are actually there to limit her power, but I feel it's a bit unfocused and tries to do a bit too much with limited runtime. Shout out to the absolutely gorgeous introduction. The third and final OVA (there's an unrelated crossover, but that's for some other time) is Final (1989), set to the invasion of earth by the aliens trying to rescue the princess during the arranged marriage of Ayumi to Kei, who's still very much in love with C-Ko and have A-Ko and B-Ko fighting everything, even each other over him, in a love triangle now with five players nobody is interested in the other person (well, A-Ko really likes C-Ko, but is it romantic?).
Looking over the OVAs, I think keeping some of the ambiguity and unanswered questions would be fine - what if Ayumi was really the princess all along and Napolipolita and D were just so bored and wanting to go home they jumped to conclusions? But maybe C-Ko returned not because her mother saw she'd only be happy on earth, but because they really got it wrong. Who knows. Now I'm doing the same thing of overthinking the show of the girls in sailor suits destroying a school fighting each other.
Recommended to: do you like having fun?
Plus:
Pure "turn off your brain and enjoy the show" entertainment
Funny faces (you know what's coming)
Minus:
OVAs are fun to watch but not exactly necessary watching.

english person here - i wouldn't say the franklin expedition is super culturally significant, but its a) a polar expedition where b) everyone disappeared so of course ppl are still investigating. like you could boil it down to "all of these people were stupid" but like why would you when the wrecks are right there to investigate. also like imagine 500 years down the line you are a scholar trying to piece together 19th century polar expeditions and the only note on the franklin expedition is "we all know what happened". like the more evidence you can record the better
i'd like to clarify that i didn't mean to sound like i was just being like "they're stupid, case closed, whatever", i'm getting into the terror b/c i genuinely find this stuff interesting, & i have a lot of family history w/ wrecks and seafaring accidents, it's more of a "what makes this one so intriguing to people above other ones", because i've seen so many adaptations and stuff about the terror and erebus and, like, everybody knows those names, at least around here, but it's like how everybody knows the edmund fitzgerald but i can't name a single other ship that went down in lake superior.
i apologize if my tone came across badly, i basically haven't slept and have done nothing but consume the terror content since like 10 pm last night, & i can totally see how i didn't express myself well. it came from a place of genuine confusion at why it's so popular & so intriguing, to me as well as everyone else, & it's also just kind of weird when i've grown up in a realm of "yeah, yeah, our country is a deathtrap, every body of water is full of corpses, exploring up north is still wildly dangerous & polar bears have started hunting human beings b/c of climate change, we've all seen it" that this one specifically stands out. why? i'm curious!
but it's probably the conclusion i accidentally came to in my original post, that fanning the flames of interest in the franklin expedition gets more money thrown at expeditions to nunavut & then those findings and technologies can be used for so many other things in other areas. just like how people keep going "uhhh we wanna look for the monster" and getting money thrown at them to survey loch ness lol

What is the worst thing you have done to a character? What is the worst thing you have seen someone else do to a character? Who was the one who did it?
Hmm.... worst thing... my definition is probably not the same as most buuuut I'd say was the time I stuck with a ship i had pre- planned instead of the one that suited the character better. Like that haunts me to this day to such a point that I recently came across the same issue in my new project and had to rewrite cause i didn't wanna get haunted again.
In the proper definition of "worst" however... I'd say the current thing I'm doing to a character. Her name is Mercedes and she's a seamstress, and I'm basically gonna toss her into an otherworldly arena where they put humans against various monsters for sport and if you live you get to fight another day. Literally fight, basically you're stuck killing monsters until either you die or you figure out how to escape. Oh and as a side effect of this you get what's called Orkruz or "sight" so that you see the other dimension in the main dimension as well. Aka you now see all the monsters everywhere. She's gonna nearly go insane before she adjusts. šŸ˜‡
Moving on. Okay so this also comes in multiple tiers. Worst thing i believe is a writer either completely butchering a creative chance of potential because their character is just "so cool" they come across as being the absolute worst. I saw a girl write a "strong princess" this way, but it just ended up that she kept breaking hearts and decided to pursue her best friends lover in the end. Like... butcher a highly potential character why don't you.
Another special tier in my mind for those who write a good character but then for some reason decide to halfway through decide you don't want them as a main character or love interest, because person B over here is hotter, and so you do character annihilation and absolutely wreck what made them good to prop up person B. Am i speaking of a specific character? Yes. I'm still fucking salty.
Okay third bracket which is what i think you mean. I have two friends who are literally trauma twins, i s2g. What do they do? One of them had her character watch his parents get butchered at a young age, went completely wild like boyo had gone so off the deep end as a result that he killed and ate raw rabbits and his personality schismed into his regular tame self and this blood covered little boy he'd talk to in times of stress. He was a darling normally which made the crazy part of him so damn eerie and surreal, like he would get in fights and unless someone intervened, that blood thirsty part of him would come to the surface and he'd just destroy his enemy in the bloodiest of ways while talking in a child voice. I s2g, I've never recovered and it's been 10 years. Second friend has an immortal, and oh my God i swear she's got stories for this guy-- to be fair, he's a canon character who did some messed up shit, but still-- like he's an elf, right, who for example has to kill his own nephew who is impaled as a mercy killing. She's got another one that was imprisoned and tortured so long by a dark lord, that he's just very very very broken but at the same time he's also (if my memory serves me right) got amnesia and doesn't recall who he is fully. Like he got tortured into brain damage that's what you're telling me.
Who was the one who did it? .... weeeeeellllllllllllll daaamn asking me to out people. I think i pretty much outed them anyway with the exception of that one character I'm salty about. *clears throat* it was Sarah J. Maas your honor. The character is Tamlin, who I really really like-- and AM STILL PISSED CAUSE SHE MADE MY LOVE FOR HIM FEEL CHEAP AND WORTHLESS-- but who in my opinion was the victim of a lazy writer who could've gone back when she realised Rhysand was gonna be the ML (though God only knows why, that bastard BROKE FEYRES ARM Y'ALL WTF) aaand just *made him the ML* but noooooo she chose the low road of forcing Tamlin into character disfigurement turning him into first a puppet then a dick. Like...*hisses* I'll stop. I'll stop. It makes me so mad.

You know the saying laughter is the best medicine?
That. But kinda reversed!
Imagine Sick!Ler that tickles their lee because it's helping them feel better to hear laughs and giggles
C! Or cc!: Like if George is sick and Dream is caring for him and let's George tickle him bc how can you push away sick Gogy? Ya can't.
C!: Or Sapnap is exhausted and unwell after hunting for Dream and he flops down on top of Karl or Q and gently tickles them to ease the stress and ache
C! Or CC!: Wilbur "reluctantly" let's sick and clingy Tommy tickle him while swearing and throwing loving insults
C! Or CC!: Foolish is sick and delirious with a fever and tickles Punz because he likes the sound or maybe is hallucinating even and can't quite figure out what or who Punz is and so he keeps kneading and poking.
C!: Skeppy is ill and using it to torment Bad "C'mon! Laughter is the best medicine! Don't you want me to feel better?" And poor Bad unable to escape "SSSKEPPY! That's not what that means! It means YOUR Laughter!" As he's in hysterics but Skeppy ignores him.
C! Quackity is sick and refusing to rest even as Charlie tries to make him rest. So Q tickles the slime boy to prove how tough and well he is "See! If I can still wreck you, then I'm just fine"
The lee/ler is sick and refuses to take medicine (c!q or c!/cc!Karl šŸ™„lol) so they demand to be able to tickle the other for x amount of time as a trade.
I've seen quite a bit of sick Lee's getting tickles to feel better but I don't think I've seen any sick ler gets to tickle or even sick lee gets to tickle bc ler adores them and simply can't say no.
-Azure Giggles
azzzureeeeeeee :D ohhhh i loveeee this tropppeeee 😭 like ler comfort tickles it’s so amazing
coz like, often the situation would be that person A is asking person B if tickling would help them feel better right? like either playfully/teasy, or even softly? like they need sleep or something and so person A offers them tickles? but then instead of getting the flustered accepting reaction that they expect, they just get person B flipping it on them instead. because what would actually make person B feel a lot better right now,, would be if person A were the one being tickled :D
literally all of your examples are so cute 😭😭 i feckin adore the ā€œLaughter is the best medicineā€ being flipped like that omg. like that’s so cute šŸ˜–
here’s a situation i thought of to add onto the long list of adorableness;
cc/ckarl offering a sick cc/c!sapnap sleepy cuddle tickles coz he’s having trouble sleeping,, but then sap claims that well actually, tickling karl would definitely help tire him out a lot better. and so karl is left with no other option but to cuddle up with sap and let him tickle him silly, until sap eventually gets tired enough to sleep :(

My jaw dropped twice (the glamor charm and Barbara) and I cheered once (Jade!!!) Wjat did you think of the ep? Did you enjoy it?
Thanks for asking! I liked the episode, I didn't love it though. Here are my thoughts:
The Pros
Enjoyed seeing M'gann absolutely wreck M'comm and literally murder a bunch of his conspirators (they are confirmed as 'corpses' in the audio description during the ep)
Liked the (obvious) twist that Cassandra was the mole. (Oh no, shocker, so surprising..... but still satisfying to be right.)
Still love Onyx. Really hoping she's not also a mole, or a double agent or something.
Cass' design is just peak. I love her so much.
I like that they didn't do The Killing Joke
M'gann's b story was heartbreaking. Girl needs a team hug, stat, and some time to grieve.
I really liked Barbara constantly looking out for Cass and I do enjoy their relationship here.
JADE. She continues to be the best. (Come on, we all knew she was coming in one way or another)
Great cliffhanger leading to a setup of what I'm sure will be a very action-packed finale for this arc.
The Cons
Really didn't like how Artemis just narrated the short story for a bunch of the ep. I was talking with @ittybittytatertot about this and like, it feels like they didn't trust the audience to make the connection, but had to spell everything out for us. Maybe it was to fill the silence so it wasn't a straight up copy of a silent Santa Prisca mission like 'Exceptional Human Beings'? Idk.
Very messy. In my opinion, YJ does best when it sticks to a strong A plot, with a minor B plot. The A and B (and fucking C, goddamnit) plots cannot all be equally compelling and important, otherwise they are literally all clashing and fighting for attention.
M'gann's plot did not belong in this episode. With all due respect, M'gann and Conner had four episodes devoted to them, with no interjection from anyone on Earth. Why do we need to cut into Artemis' arc in order to move M'gann's story along? It could have waited. Not to say M'gann's plot wasn't interesting, because it was, but it didn't belong here and it took away focus from the Santa Prisca plot. Em'ree joining them and coming to Earth is something that could have easily fit into a credits scene.
The episode was TWENTY (20!) minutes long? Insane. I can only hope they took away minutes from this ep to add to the next one, because otherwise, that's unacceptable.
Still don't care for the Joker. Don't understand why he got to have a useless, rambling monologue that took up nearly three of the aforementioned twenty minutes.
And then there's the whole Babs getting paralyzed by Cass plot. I've seen takes on both sides, and as to my opinion, well, there's aspects I like and aspects I don't like. I would have enjoyed more focus on this and fleshing out to understand why/how Barbara knew to stop her. I don't like that it took away Cass' motive as to why she never kills. I do like that it gave Barbara more agency. I don't know, it's a mixed bag of feelings for me.
On the whole, it was a good episode. Not as great as "Artemis Through the Looking Glass". But, with all that said, I'm a lot harder on this arc than I expect to be in subsequent arcs because this is the one I was most excited for. And at the end of the day, all of these episodes have been legions (hah) better than the majority of the episodes in Season 3 (IMO).

For the anon talking about how they hate how over exaggerated a character is. I am not trying to start hate or anything, but if you don't like the way how someone portrays the character, just stop reading it. Some people don't delve deep, they just want to write fanfics for fun they're not going to make sure it's 100% the characters VERY complex personalities. Or the way how they view a character is different from their beliefs. I've gotten this message before and I am TIRED of it
I think it's a good time to talk about this because I've been thinking about bringing the topic up for a while. To begin with, let's clear something between the two anons because I think it's a misunderstanding:
Note: Please read this, this is important.
Tumblr media
Anon A is saying that they're sometimes bothered by how some fanfics and Aus have a different way of picturing character X, in other words, they don't really enjoy it when a character is bring mischaracterized
Anon B (this anon) is saying that if you're bothered by a fic because you don't like how they're characterizing an specific character, then you don't have to read it.
Let me say that both of these anons are right, yet to think that their ideas are the opposites of each other, is totally wrong. In other words they both have a point, but I guess their points needs a stronger a better way of being explained in order to avoid any further dramas and misunderstandings.
Why am I doing this? Because I've seen -enough- of it. After the twst character analyses, aruges toward the mischaracterizations in this fandom became a thing, it's been causing some issues and arguments between the fans and it's mainly because of how sides fails to explain their points clearly.
Though I didn't really receive any rude asks/comments regarding myself the matter I can still how some fans feel attacked, offended or called out by character analysis posts or have the NERVE to attack or offend others with their own perspective on characters and try to force others into accepting them.
Enough with drama, I'm sick of it. I'm going to explain this as clearly as I can, hopeful that this would at least lessen the chance of having to go through another drama regarding the mischaracterization issue.
1) The concept of FANfiction
First off, the fanfiction itself; what is a fanfiction? What type of writing is considered to be a fanfic? What is it even used for? These are the questions we all need to answer before getting to know the world of fanfic.
Just as its name explains, it's fan + fiction. It's the result of the fan's creativity and imagination taking place in a fictional plot, something that hasn't happened with the original characters and he original story. The fans' imagination is often far beyond the plot which the original story/series/book offers, yet this isn't going to hold fans back from imagining it. Fanfiction is the way of giving yourself (or others) the specific and plot with the original and canon version isn't going to give you, in other words it's a way of getting what you wish to see through a story but this time, it's you who'd decide what will happen.
You are the one who decides how characters will be, you are the one who decides how and where this story happens and you are the one to choose how this story must come to an end. It's all about your own imagination and creativity, which enables you to have power over everything about your own story and fanfiction, everything (In expection gor than legal issues including claiming the original character as yours). You have the power, and you choose how it should be.
2) Fanfiction and mischaracterization
This was mainly the most brought up issue in the recent Twst drama, mischaracterization through writings. Many were saying how they find this annoying and nerve-wrecking, but no one really talked about how mischaracterization comes to life.
Let me tell you, as long your writing is a fanfic, there is a 70% chance of mischaracterizing the plot or the characters and there's nothing wrong with it, that's just how fanfiction works! It isn't supposed to be canon, it is fanon and only fanon. Everything that happens is fictional and fanon based, in other words, it's the fan who decides what should happen in a fanfiction and how it's supposed to be!
One of the Fanfiction's best purposes is giving the fandom a chance to mischaracterize! To write the characters the way they wish them to be and not necessarily the way they truly are. Fanfiction allows us to imagine and create something that isn't true, so let me clear my point here: It's totally okay to change the characters' personalities in your fanfics! As the writer, you have the right to do so, and since writing a fanfic must be for your own pleasure in the first place, no one can stop you from imagining whatever you want! No one can jump out and say stuff like "YOU CAN'T MISCHARACERTIZE A CHARACTER IN A FANFICTION" because that'd be super lame. It's your own fanfiction, your story, your creation and you're free to mischaracterize if that's how you like it to be! And if anyone doesn't like that, remember that they don't have to read that.
3)What is the problem?
Look, we've been going through some drama because of the recent character analyses of twst fandom, and I'd like to explain why. First off, note that I think both sides of the argument have been wrong and I'm going to talk about both of them.
Let me begin with a small example: It's been argued that based to what we've seen from Leona's personality so far, he doesn't seem to be the type to love healthily or even easily fall for anyone. Some of the fans seemed to be offended by the statement and said that "They still want their Leona fluff no matter what everyone else says" okay okay, this is the problem I was talking about: Saying that canon Leona doesn't seem to be much of a fluffy lion or a sweet lover isn't equal to forbidding the fans from writing fluffs for him or picturing him as a adorable and gentle lover! No one has the right to hold fans back from appreciating and enjoying what they like! But it's important to know what exactly is happening.
I'll talk about some crucial points you need to know about character analyses and how it's different from a fanfic in part (4), but before that, let me continue to give some examples of the recent argues and how each of the sides were wrong.
A) You enjoy reading fluffy Malleus content but character analyses have been saying that he isn't as soft and cute as you'd expected him to be. Does this mean that you can no longer ask for wholesome Malleus content or enjoy reading them? -> Of course not! You're still free to read/imagine/write whatever you like with Malleus! No one has the right to tell you what to do, and character analyses aren't meant to be a way to hold you back from enjoying what you like! If you're enjoying something, go for it! In this fanon world no one can accuse you for not following the canon interpretations!
B) You've spent a rather long time getting to know Ace and his canon personality, and you really like the way he is! But by reading fanfics/ fandom's interpretations on him you can't help but to feel like they aren't giving his personality the justice he deserves, and aren't seeing the great and amazing character he truly is. Is it okay to feel upset about this? -> Just as I said, it's totally fine to have your personal interpretations of a character no matter how different the rest of the interpretations are! But the real question is: what should you do when you think fandom isn't doing a character justice? This would be answered in part D!
C) You are enjoying your personal ideas and headcanons with Idia and many are saying that your way of picturing him is so adorable! Does this necessarily mean that the canon Idia as well is like you describe him? -> Absolutely not! No matter how adorable an Au/headcanon is, everyone's free to enjoy it but you should remember that canon ≠ fanon. You are totally free to imagine whatever you'd like! But keep this in mind that you shouldn't insist on your ideas being necessarily canon!
D) You feel like many are mischaracterizing your favorite character and you don't like it, what should you do? -> Well to begin with, remember that other fans have the right to characterize a character just as much as you do! You can't stop them from doing what they like or expect them to change the way they are because of how different the canon interpretation of a character might be. But you as well have a great chance to inspire the fandom by your own ideas! You can try to discuss how different the canon personality of your favorite character is and even try to turn that into a character analysis! This way you'd not only avoid causing any drama because of disagreeing with someone's way of picturing your favorite character, but you will also have a chance to present your personal ideas and characterizations to the fandom in a friendly and polite way!
E) You don't like how an author is characterizing some of the boys, what should you do? -> Easy solution, don't read it. Let me tell you, I have gone through this a lot and do you know what I do whenever I read/see something that doesn't match my tastes and expectations? I keep scrolling! That's all, I don't have to like it, but I don't have to read it either! šŸ˜€
F) You're an author and a writing request is asking you to write for a character in a way you just can't or don't want to write because that goes totally against your idealistics and ideas on a character, for example: You just can't write something really wholesome and fluffy for Leona because you can't imagine him being like that, what should you do? -> It's obvious, then don't write it! You have the right to choose what you'd like to write and how you like to picture a character no matter what others think. If you want to picture Leona as an emotional and soft boy, it's totally okay! If you want to picture him as a cold-hearted and mean prince, again it's totally alright! Remember, just like fans you have the right to picture and characterize the characters the way you want to, and no one can tell you otherwise!
G) You've read a character analysis and you realize that you've been mischaracterizing Floyd for a while, should you feel bad or sorry about it? -> Of course not!! Even if you were mischaracterizing him, keep this mind that there's nothing wrong with picturing Floyd as the way you want him to be! As long as you don't claim your headcanons to be canon and share stuff like "Canon from is definitely like this" or "Floyd would do that, canon! ^-^" it's totally alright to imagine him the way you like!
H) You saw someone saying something about Malleus that didn't match the canon interpretations of him. You quickly replied to then and corrected them about their wrong point of view and tell them how the real Malleus is, which kinda led to and argument between you and the person, did you do the right thing? -> Absolutely not! Attacking others out of nowhere and without any context isn't the right way of introducing the canon characterizations to the fandom! Even if you were right, keep this in mind that the other person has the right to picture Malleus or any other character the way they want them to be so if you want to correct them or try to get to know the canon character interpretations, you should do that from the logical and polite way.
I) Someone wrote a character analysis for Idia and said how they find it so annoying when people who refer to Idia as "Baby" and "uwu beanie". You often refer to Idia as baby or cutie yourself and the context of that analysis/general post some how got to you. You feel lowkey attacked and offended, did the original poster say the right thing? -> No, matter what the context is or how accurate and well-written that analysis was, directly calling people who have a certain way of picturing a character "Annoying" is rude no matter how you think of it. Even if the original poster were right about Idia not being UWU, their way of wording their sentence wasn't really pleasant; keep this, in mind that everyone in the fandom is free to picture Idia as they like and it doesn't even matter if you don't like it or not! If you're going to write an analysis/essay regarding a character's personality, remember that you should prove your point and disagree with opposite opinions through logical reasoning and explaining your point, NOT by offending and attacking other ideas by savage contexts like "You have to stop saying that Idia is like this", "I hate it when people say Idia is like this", " It's so annoying to see people saying Idia is like this... "
4) What's with the character analyses then?
There's a difference from the canon and fanon interpretations of a character, this is a truth which cannot be denied. But it's important to remember that just because a canon interpretation of a character exists, you can no longer enjoy the fanon interpretations!
Even I, for example, enjoy picturing someone like Malleus as an purely evil being like Maleficent herself because I enjoy seeing him as a perfect figure for "Mister of all Evil", but in my Malleus analysis post I explained how we should NOT think that Malleus is nothing but pure evil or a heartless monster! See, this is the difference I've been talking about. I'm pretty well-familiar with the canon Malleus, but I'm also enjoying the my own fanon Malleus and I know that the Evil Malleus I admire is a fanon one, not the canon one!
The thing is, character analyses aren't meant to be a way to hold anyone back from enjoying their fanon interpretations or imagining what they like, they aren't call out posts either. They are simply a way of getting to know the characters as if you're getting to know one of your irl friends. You come to think of them, see how deep their personalities are and get to learn more about them!
It's true that reading a character analysis might make you realize that you've been somehow mischaracterizing a character but this, isn't anything to be sorry or frustrated about! Character analyses are written to learn us more about our favorite characters, or as I like to name it, they want to show us that they're a lot more that we may imagine them to be!
Now, you may wonder how can we write a good character analysis without getting out of the line, offending anyone or giving out any cheap information?
I, personally, am pretty strict when asked to do a character analysis. Doesn't matter if I like the character or not, I'd try to judge them nonetheless. You HAVE to talk about both good features and bad features, and you must strictly avoid your analysis from getting personal; you have to make sure that your personal thoughts, feelings and emotions regarding a character aren't effecting your analysis. You shouldn't be writing it in a way to show off with your analytical ideas either.
Some people think coming off as rude would make them sound valid and acceptable, or they might just be used to being a little offensive in general, but as I explained in part 3-I, I won't recommend using any harsh or mean languages at all. Let me note that your way of wording your ideas is crazily important and if you're not careful enough with what you say and how you describe your ideas, your post would be not only be not much helpful as an analysis but also a cause of more drama and arguments. Also, keep this in mind that even the best of character analyses can't totally catch the characters' personalities correctly because we do not own them! Twisted wonderland's characters are a property of aniplex and neither me not anyone else in this fandom has the right to claim what a character is 100% like unless Disney officially releases those details!
Writing character analyses can be hard, from finding enough of hints to defend your point to choosing the right Grammer and way of speaking to avoid any further misunderstandings. But remember, those who write character analyses have no right to attack anyone because of them (They can oppose to different opinions of course, opposing ≠ attacking ), but keep this in mind that readers have no right to attack then because of their analysis either! See, that's a two-sided relationship. Both of the, sides have to learn to respect, both of the sides should, know, their boundaries and both of the sides have to be respectful!
Warning: When I say you're free to do or imagine whatever you wish to do, know that posting and sharing writings too has its own rules. Make sure to put the proper warnings, and avoid using any taboo or clearly impolite and sometimes, illegal concepts such as incest, pedophilia, etc.
Tumblr media
I actually had a lot more I wanted to say regarding the matter but I'm keeping it short, because I know that writing too much would make this boring and pretty hard to read. Hope that it's clear enough and avoid the possible future misunderstandings and arguments regarding the matter. Please, this isn't even about twst, it's about learning to respect each other it's about real life. Having people read THIS is a lot more important than having them read my character analyses or writings.

Note
First and foremost: I hope you are saving all of your posts, especially your odd comments and speculations. Almost all of these are HILARIOUS in a way that only context can show. I think you'll get a kick out of reading them all when you are done catching up. Seriously.
Re: Gary - yes, his behavior in season 3 is a odd and creepy. This being said, they DO address it later. I'd love to have a conversation after you watch the first bit of season 6 about it.
Also, Ray in episode 16 was great - there were so many clone jokes. He tried to do the jedi mind trick on the Avas, which I thought was hilarious. There was even an Orphan Black reference. Also, I think he had one of the lines of the night - when he was reading that they were supposed to be the perfect woman, he said as an aside, "Looks kind of pale, if you ask me". That side comment was so needed and a nod to the fact that 'blond hair, white' is not and should not be everyone's ideal.
And yes, Sara definitely had her 'oh my god, I'm so turned on face' after Ava drop kicked the clone leader. I really enjoyed how this episode in a way put Sara and Ava on the same terms, but in COMPLETELY opposite ways. Sara is a wreck and doesn't think she can be in a relationship because her past has weighed her down. Ava is a wreck because she has no past. It's a beautiful mirror and some damn good writing - especially considering Jes Macallan is still a guest star at this point.
I do like how we are shown how Sara copes by taking time to herself. In an odd way, she's always been an introvert, and I appreciate the character consistency.
The theme of the episode was definitely the importance of connecting to family, and I think the writers did a superb job of using it as a thread throughout the episode.
A Story: Any connection Ava had between her family was severed. She now knows all her memories of family are fake, and Rip, her work 'father figure' in an odd way, has done this thing to her that she doesn't quite understand. Because Gary was in this, there WAS a line he threw out about his dad as well - I think that was the first we learned of his past.
B Story: First off, the B team went to protect Mari, who was family to Amaya, who was injured because of a lack of totem. We see her family in the waiting room, but then Kuasa shows up and does literally everything in her power - at first setting Nate up, but then literally giving her own life - to protect family. This culminated in the ending scene of Amaya throwing away everything it means to be a superhero - literally risking all of time - in order to help Kuasa and her family. Even Damien was shown to be pained Damien watching Nora slip away from him as Mallus grew stronger (side note: wow, Nora is strong - she just dropped Wally like he was nothing. I kind of love how this show has NO respect for speedsters).
C Story: Zari's connection with her family, even though they are dead, is palpable. Episode 16 must be praised for showing Zari observing Ramadan. It's so cool to see that done and talked about in a respectful, meaningful way. I don't think I've seen TV just drop casual representation in this manner before.
ok wow this is a long message but you know what i think that's great :D i will try to respond point by point.
good to know gary's creep behavior is addressed later. that's one thing i like about this show, it's not afraid to allow its characters to be complex and grow.
ray trying to jedi mind trick clone ava was so silly. he felt like kind of a weird choice for this particular mission but i enjoyed his pop culture references. and how he was being very sympathetic and reassuring to sara.
i didn't realize ray's comment about ava being pale was meant to criticize the notion of a white woman as the ideal woman. i gotta be honest, i was not happy with the concept of ava having been designed as the ideal woman physically. i get that the show isn't necessarily endorsing her as such, it's just saying that this corporation advertises her that way, but the episode doesn't do enough to challenge that assertion. i think it's not helped by the fact that sara, ray, and gary are all white.
yessss i love how sara & ava's conflicts are mirrored as you said....sara has a much easier time accepting the truth about ava, and i wonder if sara isn't a little envious of ava's blank slate past, since it means ava isn't weighed down by regrets and past wrongdoings the way sara is. of course, ava wouldn't see it that way - sara may have done horrible things in the past, but at least she has a past, at least she has an identity.
and yeah the theme of family was executed really well in this episode. the sublot with amaya and kuasa just has not been working for me for some reason i can't quite identify, but the progression of that plotline in this episode underscores the importance of family as well. zari explaining the importance of family and tradition makes us feel for ava even more, as we see her cope with the realization that she has no family or past. and i also liked how this episode showed zari observing ramadan, it felt very normal and not othering or exotifying. and it didn't necessarily feel like a "teaching moment" either - the focus isn't on explaining to the audience what ramadan is, but rather showing what the observation of ramadan means to zari.

Empty Castle
Pairing: JJ x reader
Summary: Three weeks after John B and Sarah Cameron were lost at sea, Kildare is still reeling from the dramatic events surrounding the death of its sheriff. JJ in particular has been struggling to get back to normal, so Y/N goes to try and help him get back on his feet. Sequel to Holding Cell.
Warnings: tiny bit of swearing, v sad JJ
Word Count: 4.2k (about double what I originally intended)
A/N: This took way longer than expected and I didn't mean for this to be so sad but it got real sad, so there isn't really anything beyond platonic until towards the end. I would highly suggest that you read Holding Cell first (perhaps because I worked hard on it and I want people to read it) but if you really don't want to then all you really need to know is that JJ and Y/N were childhood friends but hadn't spoken for two years until they both got arrested on the same day and they decided to be friends again. Cool, enjoy! :)
Tumblr media
The bell for the end of school rang and the crowd of teenagers swarmed out, and you made your way to the bike rack along with your friends.
"So, my house for movie night?" Jess said, and the rest of your friends chorused in agreement.
"Actually, I have something else to do." You replied, fastening your helmet. "I'll come by after if I finish up in time."
"What are you doing?"
"I need to go see someone." You replied, quickly getting on your bike before any further questions could be asked. "Later guys."
You cycled out to the house that you knew was where John B lived - basically the entire island knew where he lived after everything that had happened - and left your bike on the porch. The front door was open.
"JJ?" You called tentatively. "Are you here?" You heard movement from one of the rooms and turned towards it, seeing JJ walk out a few moments later. He looked disheveled, shirtless and with messy hair.
"Y/N?" He asked, surprised. His voice was slightly gravelly, like he'd woken up not long ago. "Why are you here?"
"I came to find you, JJ. School started on Monday, you've missed the whole week."
"School started?" His question made you frown in worry. "Wait, how did know I'd be here?"
"Because you're not anywhere else." You answered, putting down your school bag. "Nobody's really seen you. I stopped by at your house and your dad said-"
"You did what?"
"Relax, JJ, it's not as if he has any idea who I am. And he told me that you haven't been home in two weeks."
"I'm surprised he's kept track." JJ muttered.
"Clearly you haven't." The comment made JJ pause. He ruffled his hair and let out a long sigh, looking down at his own appearance. "What have you been doing these past weeks?"
"I don't know." He shrugged. "It's kinda blurred. I go to work, I go fishing, I smoke. I really didn't realise that school had started." He crossed the room to the sofa and grabbed a tank top off of the back of it, throwing it on before making his way to the kitchen.
"So I take it you've just been living here." You stated, looking around the mess that had accumulated in the house.
"Yeah. Pope and Lie have been staying away from the place ever since, uh..." He trailed off, pushing his tongue against his cheek and clearing his throat. "But me, I'm here basically all the time. They use Heyward's boat so I've got the HMS Pogue all to myself; they use Kie's car, I get that busted up van." He laughed, but there was a real sadness behind it.
You watched JJ as he made himself a sandwich, and even from a distance you could tell that there was barely any food in that kitchen. A few seconds passed and you spun on your heel, starting to collect empty food packages from around the room.
"What are you doing?"
"Cleaning." You answered matter-of-factly. "If you insist on staying here, I insist that you keep it clean."
"Why do you even care?"
When you turned around to face him JJ was leaning against the kitchen door frame. He wasn't looking at you, rather he was staring at the floor. His body language was relaxed but you knew that that wasn't how he was feeling.
"What happened to the 'giving to whole friendship thing another try' deal?" You replied. "I'm just trying to live up to my side of the agreement."
"Maybe that wasn't such a great idea."
"Okay." You muttered after a stretch of silence. "Let's try this again later. You go off back to your bedroom or whatever, I'll clean up here and we can reconvene at a later time." You pushed past him into the kitchen to look through the cabinets for trash bags, and when you found them you pushed past him back to the living room.
"Y/N-"
"I'm not leaving, JJ, so don't even try it." You interrupted, throwing empty bottles and cans into a trash bag. You heard him mutter something under his breath and disappear down the hall, slamming the door shut behind him. You scoffed and continued clearing the house.
You got rid of all of the trash from the living room and the kitchen before knocking on the door to the room JJ had shut himself in. By now he'd had about half an hour of preparation for a civil conversation.
When you opened the door he was lying on his back on the bed with a hat covering his face, but you knew he was awake because he kept fiddling with his fingers and tensing and untensing his jaw.
"You ready to talk about it?" You asked softly, taking a seat at the foot of the bed.
"No." He mumbled, his response muffled by the hat over his face.
"Want a hug?" He didn't answer, so you took his silence to mean 'yes but I don't want to say it out loud'. You kicked off your shoes and shuffled up the bed so that you were lying beside JJ, draping an arm over his body and resting your head on his chest. He let out a long sigh and slowly wrapped his arm around your body, pulling you in closer.
You stayed like that for a long time, just listening to yourselves breathe while you waited for JJ to be ready to talk to you.
"We really ran off a cliff, didn't we?" He finally broke the silence, his voice quiet and full of emotion as he removed the hat from over his face. "Pope lost his scholarship, I've become a complete pothead, John B and Sarah are missing. We don't even have the gold."
"Gold?" You questioned.
"We found the wreck of the Merchant, Y/N." He whispered, staring up at the ceiling. "And we found the gold, underneath the Craine house, and Ward Cameron took the whole lot out from under us while the town was on a manhunt for John B."
"Oh my god, JJ!" You exclaimed, sitting up. "You seriously found the Merchant gold?"
"Yep. To finish what Big John started. But it doesn't matter now, it's gone. Just like John B." His voice broke as he said his best friend's name, and you lay back down beside him.
"I'm sorry."
"They could still be out there, right?" JJ murmured. "I mean, they found the Phantom but they didn't find John B and Sarah. Maybe they got picked up by a ship."
"Yeah of course, that's totally possible." You nodded. The silence stretched out again, JJ sniffling every now and then as if holding back from crying.
After a while you sat up, getting JJ's attention and he turned his head to look at you.
"Let's go grocery shopping." You said. "There's barely any food in this house, you need some supplies."
"I haven't really got the money, Y/N."
"My parents just left town and I never spend all of the money that they leave so we can use that." You replied adamantly. "You need to get some human contact, okay? So let's go."
You climbed off of the bed and put your shoes back on before pulling JJ up as well. Reluctantly, he put on some shoes and grabbed the keys to John B's van.
+++
The two of you were out for about an hour. You stopped off at your house to grab the cash before going to the grocery store, where you ended up leading the shopping trip because JJ apparently had basically no knowledge of nutrition. Being with another person seemed to bring JJ out of the haze that he had been presumably for the past few weeks; he even smiled at a joke you made while you were at the checkout.
"I didn't expect you to have enough money for a full grocery shop." JJ said as the two of you packed the food away in the kitchen.
"Well, because my parents don't talk to each other they also don't coordinate their trips out of town which most often results in them both leaving money for me." You explained. "I never tell them, I just keep the extra cash as compensation for the neglect." You smiled, closing the cabinet you had been packing things into and turning around to take a seat on the counter. JJ finished putting away the last of the groceries and leant against the wall opposite you, folding his arms over his chest.
"Why'd you really come find me?" He asked.
"Well, after John B and Sarah got lost in the storm it was obvious that you weren't going to be doing the best." You answered, watching him carefully to gauge how he was feeling. "And when you didn't show up for school all of this week, I figured that you might need a friend to bring you back to reality."
"I, uh, I appreciate that." He nodded, his lips turning upwards into a small smile.
"Happy to help." A silence settled between you again, as it had many times throughout the evening, but it felt a little different this time; slightly more tense, but not in a bad way.
"Do you wanna go out on the boat?" JJ suggested. "The sun's about to set."
"Sure. Sounds nice." You replied, hopping off of the counter. His smile grew and he kicked off the wall, adjusting his hat on his head as he headed back to the front door, you following after.
You took a seat on the bow of the boat while JJ got it going, and you stayed in silence as he drove you out into the marsh. The sky was orange and violet when he anchored the Pogue, and he came to take a seat beside you.
"It's nice, isn't it?" He said quietly, looking out at the sun setting over the water. "I come out here most nights if I'm not still at work."
"Yeah, it's beautiful." You nodded. "What's your job?"
"Busboy in a hotel restaurant. You got a job?"
"Nah, I've got my absent parent money." You looked over at JJ and you could see sympathy in his eyes. "Don't feel bad for me, it's really not so terrible." You chuckled. You didn't need sympathy; certainly not from JJ, who was in a far more difficult situation than you.
You talked idly as you watched the sunset and when the sky turned dark you had settled into silence and lay back on the boat to look up at the stars. The two of you were lying with your hands on your stomachs, your elbows touching with the proximity in the small boat.
"What if they're not out there?" JJ whispered, barely audible.
"Then... we learn to keep going." You answered, turning your head to look at him. "Look, JJ, I was never as close to John B as you were, and I have no idea how you guys became friends with Sarah Cameron, but whether they're out or not, and whether they cane back, you'll always have them with you."
He turned to look at you too, tears shining in his eyes, and you reached a hand out to grab his and interlocked your fingers.
"I know it's clichƩ, but it's true." You smiled reassuringly. "They left you a piece of themselves to keep in your heart, and nothing can ever take that from you." He held onto your hand tightly, a single tear escaping his eye as he tensed his jaw to try and hold back any more.
"I really miss him, Y/N." He sniffled. "He was my brother, you know." You quickly moved to hug JJ, your body half on top of his as he wrapped his arms around you tightly and buried his face in your shoulder as he started to break down.
You maneuvered the two of you into a sitting position so that you could wrap your arms around him properly, cradling his head in your hand. He held onto you tightly, his tears soaking through your t-shirt and his body shaking with his sobs.
Minutes passed before JJ calmed down, and you held onto his shoulders as you broke away from the hug.
"You'll be alright. Okay?" You said softly, and he nodded. "I'll drive us back." You wiped away the tears on his face with your thumbs with a smile, before getting up to bring up the anchor.
JJ stayed where he was sat while you drove the boat back to John B's house. You docked the boat and went inside, the atmosphere heavy. He took a seat on the sofa while you flicked on the lights.
"Can I tell you something, Y/N?" He asked.
"Yeah, of course."
"I used to have the biggest crush on you when we were kids." The confession left you a little shocked, but you didn't show it, and JJ continued. "John B used to tease me about it all the time. When we were thirteen, after, like, four years of pining after you, he told me that I just needed to man up and tell you... but I never did, and then our friendship kind of just fell apart."
"Why are you telling me this now?" You questioned, and JJ let out a sigh before shrugging.
"I don't know. With John B missing and you suddenly back in my life... it just feels weird." He answered. "But I'm glad that you're here. I think I really need it."
"I think you do too." You chuckled. "Now, I'm gonna make us something to eat."
"Us?"
"What, you don't want me to stay?"
"No!" He defended himself loudly, making you laugh. "No, that's not it at all. I just wasn't expecting you to."
"Well, I have nowhere else to be." You smiled before disappearing into the kitchen.
You busied yourself in cooking, cutting up some chicken and vegetables and throwing them into a stir fry. You were completely absorbed in what you were doing, humming to yourself while you pushed the food around the pan with a wooden spatula, so when you felt a hand on your shoulder it made you jump.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." JJ apologised quickly, taking a small step back. "I said your name but you didn't hear me."
"Oh, really? Sorry." You chuckled. "What did you want?"
"Just... You weren't weirded out that I used to have a crush on you?" He asked tentatively.
"No, of course not." You shrugged turning back to the pan. "I'll admit it was a little surprising, but we were kids and we were super close. Jess used to tease me about that all the time."
"About us being close?"
"Yeah. I remember one time she totally freaked out because you called me pretty. Can you get a couple of plates out for me please?" You heard JJ open a cupboard and take out a couple of plates.
"For what it's worth," He said, setting the plates down on the counter beside you and taking out some cutlery. "I still think you're pretty."
"Aw, thanks JJ." You smiled. "You're not too bad yourself."
"What's that supposed to mean?" He countered, feigning offense, and you laughed.
"Nothing. You're a good looking guy; not at all like the chubby cheeked little kid that I used to know."
You dished up your meals and you and JJ went back to the living room to eat. You kicked you legs up onto the sofa with your plate on your lap and tucked in. It was later in the evening than you would usually eat, so you were eager to get some food into your stomach. Even still, JJ practically vaccumed in the food and finished before you did. He took the plates back through to kitchen when you finished.
"You gonna head home any time soon?" He asked.
"I'm not in a rush." You shrugged. "I'll just be going back to an empty house." JJ hummed in acknowledgement. He lifted your legs up to sit on the couch beside you, putting them back down on his lap once he'd gotten himself situated. Maybe him being in such a vulnerable situation earlier had accelerated your connection, but it was like those two years that you didn't talk at all never even happened; you were just as close as ever, if not more somehow.
"You're gonna stick around, right?" He said, turning to look at you. You tilted your head slightly.
"Of course." You reassured, smiling. "I'm not gonna leave you now, of all times. Besides, I missed you and we were supposed to be trying the friendship thing again anyway."
"Yeah, the friendship thing." He muttered, downcatsing his gaze, and you frowned.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"JJ, you can tell me." You took your legs off of his lap and crossed them under you, shuffling forwards towards JJ and lowering your head to try and catch his gaze.
"I..." He began but trailed off immediately. He let out a loud sigh, running a hand over his face and through his hair before taking a deep breath. "I know that I might just be saying this because I'm kinda fucked up in the head with my friends being lost at sea and all, but I think I still like you Y/N. As more than a friend." He rambled.
"JJ, we didn't speak to each other for two years." You replied, taken aback by what he was saying and trying to introduce some reason into the conversation.
"I know- I know that, Y/N, but... it doesn't feel like anything has changed for me." He explained, mirroring your body language and crossing his legs under himself to face you. "I get it, it's stupid, but I can't help that. I mean, I know that we were literally twelve years old but when we were friends before I think that there was something there. Maybe I'm biased because I liked you, but maybe..."
He looked at you, his eyes searching for any tell of what you were thinking, and there was a long pause while you thought.
"Even if there was something." You started slowly. "We were kids, JJ."
"We still are kids. We're sixteen." He argued. "When we were at the sheriff's station I felt something there, even though we hadn't spoken for two years. Tell me you didn't feel it too."
You looked away from him and took a deep breath. You would be lying if you said that you never had any feelings for JJ - he was probably the first real crush that you had - and it was probably your feelings for him that made you react so strongly when he would get himself into trouble. And you did think that being with JJ again felt much the same as it had done back then; plus, you hadn't been lying when you said that he'd grown up to be pretty handsome. Even still, he was going through an incredibly difficult time and you didn't think it would be a good idea to start any kind of relationship.
"Maybe... Maybe there might be something." You mumbled. "But right now really isn't the time to try it."
"Why not?"
"Because... well, you..." You struggled to articulate what you wanted to say.
"Y/N, I know it's a really messed up time, okay? Two of my best friends are lost at sea and I haven't spoken to the other two in weeks. I have lost all of the people closest to me and I feel completely alone, so maybe the fact that you're literally the only person that I have right now is making my feelings more extreme - I recognise that - but that doesn't mean that they're not real."
"JJ, I can't in good conscience agree to pursuing anything with you right now." You replied softly, shaking your head. It hurt you to have to say no.
"Don't you want to try?" He asked, voice a little weak as he looked into your eyes. "It doesn't need to be a huge commitment, we can just give it a try."
You looked over his face, the cogs turning in your mind as you thought through the situation. You really did want to give it a try, you were just worried that it might do JJ more harm than good. But the longer you Äŗooked and him and the more you thought about the possibility, the more you wanted to pursue it.
"No promises, no big commitments... but I'll stick around." You smiled slightly, and you put a hand gently against JJ's cheek when he smiled back. "I just don't want you to get into something that's not good for you." He chuckled, taking your hand from his face and holding it in both of his.
"You've always been looking out for me." He mumbled, brushing his thumb over your knuckles. "Where would I be without you?"
"Somewhere messy I'm sure." You smiled.
"Definitely."
You sat in silence for a minute. You were watching JJ's face while he fiddled with your fingers. He let out puffs of air every once in a while like he had just remembered something funny, and it made you smile. You yawned, suddenly realising that you were actually really tired.
"Since I'd be going home to an empty house anyway," you began, breaking the short silence. "Would you be alright with me maybe staying here for the night?" JJ looked up from your hands with an amused smile.
"Of course." He answered happily. "I could use the company."
"Great."
He stood up from the sofa and gently pulled you up after him. Your hands remained connected as he walked you through to the same bedroom as earlier and flicked on the lights.
"This is where I've been crashing." He said, quickly scratching the back of his neck. "You can stay here with me if you want, or you can stay in the other bedroom if you'd rather do that." He became noticeably more tense at the mention of the other bedroom, and you just knew that it was because that was John B's room even though you'd never been there before.
"I'll stay here." You smiled, giving his hand a comforting squeeze. "Can I borrow a t-shirt?"
"Yeah, sure." He let go of your hand and crossed the room to a duffel bag in the corner. "There's stuff in all the drawers so I've kinda just been living out of this thing." He pulled out a t-shirt and handed it to you.
"Thank you." You smiled as you took it. JJ nodded awkwardly and shuffled past you out of the room, pulling the door shut after himself.
You quickly rid yourself of your school clothes and put on the t-shirt that JJ gave you - which was long and baggy on your body - before hopping onto the bed and covering your legs with the covers. He came back in not long later carrying two glasses of water.
"I figured you might want a drink at some point." He mumbled, setting the glass down on the bedside table. You gave a grateful smile and quiet thanks as he turned on the bedside lamp and then went to turn off the main light.
"We used to have sleepovers sometimes when we were kids." You mumbled as he walked around the bed and climbed in beside you. "Do you remember?"
"Yeah, of course I do." He smiled, lying down. "We used to stay up until midnight thinking that it was a big deal."
"It was back then. Midnight is really late when you're ten years old."
"I miss when little things like that could be so exciting." He sighed, staring up at the ceiling. You looked down at him thoughtfully, absentmindedly reaching out to brush a piece of hair out of his face.
"Well, anything can be exciting with the right company." You said softly. His eyes shifted to connect with yours and he smiled ever so slightly. "We have the whole weekend ahead of us, maybe we could do something fun. Go surfing, like old times, maybe?"
"That sounds nice." He murmured.
You shuffled down the bed to rest your head on the pillows and reached over to flick off the table lamp. You lay on your side facing JJ as he remained looking up at the ceiling. With the moonlight coming through the window you could just see the silhouette of his face and a slight shine where the light reflected off his eyes.
"What are you thinking about?" You whispered after a while.
"Lots of stuff."
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Maybe tomorrow." He answered with a sigh, turning his head to look at you. "But thanks."
"No problem." You smiled. "We'll talk tomorrow." You shuffled towards JJ and curled into his chest as he wrapped an arm around you. You felt him press a very light kiss to the top of your head and it made you smile. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight." He replied, holding you a little tighter, and you fell asleep in each other's arms. For the first time since John B and Sarah went missing, JJ had some comfort and you were happy to be the person to provide that for him.

There it is! I've been trying to figure out what Gabriel is being jealous about since c.11/12. If he's jealous of Flynn because Gabriel's also falling for Lucy; or if he's jealous of Flynn for having someone who adores him in spite of everything; or if he's jealous of Lucy because she has Flynn's love & devotion. I feel like it's a tumultuous mix of everything. But if I were Gabriel, estranged from my brother and denying missing him for centuries, I'd be incensed if some newbie shows up in my
my ancestral domain, and effortlessly commandeers my brother’s attention and loyalties. Yeah, that’ll definitely cause some existential crisis, wrestling with multipronged jealousy! Hope we’ll get to see a Gabriel POV somehow. Why are you making these trashy vampires so relatable?! I feel their pain! And that goodbye hug he gave Flynn?! Oh, Gabriel, Flynn misses you, too! I can’t wait to see how you’re going to fix things between the brothers! Thanks for gifting the fandom with this gem!
Ahahaha. So, uh, who wants a shit ton of Gabriel meta, because I have Many Feelings about this trash man and his Feelings and his general Mess-ness? Which we could probably have seen coming, but anyway?
So…. yes. We learned more about Gabriel’s human life this past chapter, which was that he had a wife, but he was a really crappy husband and wasn’t there for her when their children died and only cared that she hadn’t given him an heir and (like most Roman aristocratic men) was not in the least faithful to her. And he now realizes just how lonely she was and what he put her through, and still feels guilty about that, because he himself is so lonely that he can’t stand it and has been that way since 1762 (when his son was murdered and the Matej disaster happened and he was permanently estranged from Flynn). Gabriel clings to his mask and persona of being super successful and rich and cultured and living in Paris and working as an art dealer with billionaires and museums and so on, and he speaks tons of languages and does charity work and makes everyone else feel inadequate about themselves. So to the outside, everyone thinks he’s perfect and successful and great, but…. this man has been a solitary, heartbroken, bereaved mess who barely speaks to his family for 250+ years, lost his son, lost his brother, lost his father, and is completely unable to fix that and just isolates more. His only real company has been Houdini, who lives with him in Paris and works as his butler, and he’s had… half a relationship with his niece Jiya, which is fraught for various reasons (I wrote them in this fic prompt). But really. That’s it. He’s very, very alone despite the glitz and glamour and money.
Then he goes to Sept-Tours because Garcia has brought a goddamn witch home, because Maria called him in a panic, since the family blames witches for preventing them from rescuing Asher from the Nazis, and it’s just this…. mess of things that have never been resolved and which brings out the most painful parts of their pasts. Because we’ve also learned that turning his son Christian in the 9th century was a) when Gabriel finally understood the loss of Iris and the pain that was driving Flynn to get revenge, and b) when Flynn himself became human again and stopped being this violent bloodthirsty out-of-control force of chaos, who until that point had required all of Asher and Gabriel’s efforts to hold back. So Christian was this thing that healed their family and he was in some ways Flynn’s son too, even if he couldn’t face up to actually being a father right thing or really having it or anything else after losing Iris. And that was when Gabriel saw something different in him and they bonded very quickly and it was literally almost overnight after centuries of Flynn being, well, the height of Garbage Flynn and acting like a wrecking ball.
And after that came Gabriel and Garcia’s medieval knight days, where they were super close and together all the time and fighting together and having adventures and whatever else and… they loved each other so much and Garcia gave up his chance of finishing Michael Temple in 1307, after they killed Gerbert of Aurillac, in order to save Gabriel’s life. Even if Garcia never agreed to Gabriel’s threesome shenanigan suggestions (except for a memorable few times) because he is a turtle allergic to getting laid, they were each other’s everything – as Gabriel calls him,Ā ā€œmy companion and my soul.ā€ They resented Wyatt joining the family in 1179 because they felt that they were fine as they were, they didn’t need anyone else, and Wyatt never really felt accepted by them or included in their activities (which was why he became bros with Christian instead). That of course still plays out now when they’re all estranged from each other, because they never made a proper effort to include Wyatt or tell him anything, and it’s biting them in the butt.
Then of course came the eighteenth century, and the Matej tragedy, which Gabriel blames himself viciously because he chose Garcia and Garcia’s lover and committing active treason for seven years, over the entire rest of the family, and it got his son killed as a result. There are just so many layers to that betrayal and to that heartbreak and the way he feels it can’t ever be mended. Because Garcia still tried to save Matej after he was shot, and turned him into a monster because the siring went wrong, and Gabriel had to kill him as a result. After that, Gabriel and Garcia had an almighty battle where they almost killed each other for real (it’s noted that they both still have scars from that fight) and their relationship just… absolutely never recovered. They went from being together every waking moment to barely seeing each other for decades at a time, because they couldn’t face or come to terms with the scale of the emotional and physical damage. Then Flynn turned Jiya in 1888, and Gabriel is likeĀ ā€œwell that’s nice you get to have a child again when you’re the reason I lost mine,ā€ and then Asher gets murdered by the Nazis in 1944, which is the last straw for this poor family since Asher held them together through most of this, and….yeah.
So by the time Lucy gets there, Gabriel is being forced to face his darkest deja-vu (because the last time Garcia brought a lover to Sept-Tours, obviously everything went to hell) and is exasperated with Flynn for doing it again and afraid that it’s going to be a repeat of last time.Ā  But then, because he is a Trash Tragedy Boy and they have a type, he can’t help falling for Lucy too, and yet she has marched into their house and effortlessly wrapped Flynn around her finger, and he has resentful feelings about that. Like, why does she get to have that when I can’t? Why does this outsider, this witch, get this and bring this danger and we’re still going along with it? BecauseĀ Gabriel misses Flynn until he can’t stand it, but he also just can’t forgive everything that happened with Matej, and they’re both so terrible at talking about their feelings and they are both so hurt that they just can’t fix these cumulative decades/centuries of estrangement and solitude and pain. Gabriel loves Flynn to distraction and he has for 1100+ years, but that’s also why he can’t just handwave away the consequences of what happened – even while realizing that he’s about to do it again, he’s about to pick Flynn’s side and Flynn’s war over all the more sensible options, even after what it cost him last time. And he just… can’t deal with that. And he’s been hurt by Temple, and he’s bitterly jealous of Flynn and Lucy getting together, and… yeah.
So the answer to your question is definitelyĀ ā€œall of the above.ā€ He’s jealous of Flynn and he’s jealous of Lucy and he’s jealous of them together and he’s heartbroken over what he’s lost and the way he feels he’s the biggest failure in the whole family, because he’s the oldest son and the head of the family and the grandmaster of the Knights of Lazarus and he has so many talents and so much money and yet…. he has still let this happen. He has no one to turn to, he can’t fix things with his brother who he loves more than anyone in the world, he is exasperated at said bonehead brother for starting this mess with the witch, he has feelings for the witch that he did not expect at all, he just lost it when she was kidnapped and was willing to do anything to save her, he’s been badly hurt by Temple, and it is just So Many Degrees of Nuclear Mess. So Many.
…anyway. Yes. My Gabriel Feelings are legion, and he has acquired quite a fan club, which pleases me. We will have to see what the hell these idiots do now.

the first song i heard by them
ddu-du ddu-du!! i've listened to it well before i ever got into kpop - it was on just dance 2019, so that's how i know it XD i remember really liking it despite it being kpop (which was something i wasn't into at the time lol), and i liked the dance!!
my favourite song as of now
you never know!!! ugh i love this song so so much. it has a special place in my heart because a) jisoo got the most number of lines for the first time in 4 years!! b) i wrote a fic while looping this song and that fic is one of my favorites, and c) the composition of this, from the lyrics to the rhythm, is just so well done. it gets overshadowed by the rest of blackpink's songs imo and it deserves more love 😭
the first mv i saw
ddu-du ddu-du for the same reasons as above!!
my favourite mv as of now
lovesick girls. i think i ascended when this song first came out - i remember being so obsessed with everything about it, from the outfits to the aesthetics to the choreo,,,, blackpink mvs always stand out, but this one was so different from their other ones, and that's why i enjoy it so much <33

I can't wait for all the B/T hype to just end after s7, I've been getting sick of it to be honest. It was amusing at first and served its intended purpose, but then fandom blew it WAY out of proportion and just ruined it for me. And also can't wait for the final nail in the J/C coffin to be hammered in so we can move on from that train wreck of a relationship....😄
Hi anon!
First of all, here’s a chibi JB giving you a big hug. This goes out to all the JB fandom as well.
Tumblr media
Second of all, I’m honored that you have come to me and listen to my rambly thoughts.. So here ya go!!!
Okay so I feel the same, but honestly, I’m not too surprised at the TB hype. Based on the TB posts I’ve seen when the leering scene happened, I think a lot of them may be just casual JB show shippers who got so frustrated at Jaime still being tied to Cersei and if that’s the case, I don’t blame them. I was even personally frustrated that JC didn’t break up before Jaime heads to Riverrun (and to my disgust when I watched the uncensored episodes, they even made out ew… like I totally forgot at the time that it was gonna happen whooops). But of course, I’d NEVER turn to TB no matter how frustrated I am. Besides, Tormund is always fun to put in fanfics just to make Jaime jealous mehehehehe. Let the TB shippers have their 10 seconds of fun, I guess.Anyway, anon, what you can take comfort in is that JB will 99.99% surely be canon this season. But I do warn you, I have a strong feeling that this season, Jaime will still be beside his sister for a long while and I won’t discount them still kissing and maybe having sex (I’m praying he refuses her advances though), but based on 6x10, this could be the year show!Jaime finally catches up with book!Jaime. Likely, they merged his pondering about Cersei as a person and being a true knight in the books by show!Jaime attempting to fix all the damage Cersei caused in King’s Landing. And any intimacy that will happen between the twins could look passionless, especially from Jaime’s part. And I do like that his disentanglement with her is because of who Cersei is and not because she cheated on him.And as of possible TB scenes in Season 7, it’s likely Brienne shooting him down bc she’s having Jaime feelzzz as she lovingly gropes Oathkeeper. Finally (I’m so talkative sarrreeehhh), even if JB happens at the end of the season and we only get more heart eyes and no kissing and banging, I think the point will be Jaime and Brienne finally get to chose each other. Also, since they’ve delayed their romance soooooooooooooooooooo looooooong, there’s a higher possibility that it could mean that they might live in the very end.But remember the .01% of the doubt so you won’t be too disappointed. XDXDLet’s just fill the jaime x brienne tag with art, edits, fic, feelsy ramblings, etc, as long as they can give positive vibes to help us all get through the two-ish months of agonizing wait.I hope I made you feel a little better, anon. :3 (Bc I srsly have no idea if I rambled right hahahhha)
