I adore madoka magica but when i think about it too hard the amount of inconsistencies that pop up from the soft magic system confuse the ever loving shit out of me

POINT ONE: what the fuck is all of the magic in episode one??? What are the purple light beams Homura is shooting??? What fucking gun is that Akemi??? Why can Mami heal Kyubey??? Can magical girls heal other people or just themselves??? Cause I thought healing other people was like a special thing only Sayaka (in this story) can do??? What’s up with the weird texture that pops up when Mami arrives??? It shows up when she makes the ribbon barrier to block Sayaka and Madoka from Gertrude in episode two, is that just like a force field she can set up??? That’s never explained, is that her magic power??? Cause

POINT TWO: what the actual fuck is going on with Mami??? Magical girls have a weapon and at least 1-2 magic powers. This is very consistent, Homura has a shield, time stop, and hammer space, Sayaka has a sword, healing powers, and speed boosts, Kyoko has a spear, barriers, and illusions, and this was seemingly true of Mami too, until fucking Portable happened. At first it seemed that her weapon was Guns and her magic powers were Ribbons and potentially the other weird shit she does that no one else does (Sayaka’s magic bat, seeming safety circles, healing Kyubey), but her guns are made of her ribbons, meaning she either doesn’t have a weapon or doesn’t have a clearly defined magic power. What the actual fuck is going on with her????

POINT THREE: All of Charlotte’s Labyrinth. Why is her grief seed outside of the hospital when according to her Magia Record story she witches inside the hospital? Why hasn’t it already hatched? Where’s the big witch explosion when it hatches? Where is her body? Why does the labyrinth form BEFORE the grief seed hatches??? On the topic of Nagisa, what’s HER magic power?? Is it the weird cake ritual thing?? The thing she does with the serving platters to homulily’s familiars? Cause I thought those were witch power things?

POINT FOUR: Why do Elly and Izabel pull people into their labyrinths when witches are supposed to gain power by people committing die? Or if they gain power by drawing people into labyrinths and eating them, why do the people the Witch Kiss not enter labyrinths? Also what are the exact effects of a witches kiss? Why does Gertrude’s make a woman try to jump off a building but Elly’s starts a death cult? Is it based on the strength of the witch? Cause Elly goes down in one hit to the weakest magical girl in the show so that can’t be it. Is it based on their nature/“curse”? Because then what does Izabel’s “vane” nature have to do with Homura’s relatively unspecific ideation in episode 10?

POINT FIVE: what the fuck happens when a familiar becomes a witch?? Why do they still drop grief seeds despite not having soul gems from which they hatched??? If they don’t produce energy from their conversion like magical girls do, why do the incubators allow this to happen??? Isn’t it wasteful??? Also will they be carbon copies of their witch??? Are there just TWO Albertines in Mitakihara????

POINT SIX: How did the cycle start?? What was the first magical girl fighting if there weren’t any witches that existed yet???? I understand this is nitpicky but were they fighting wraiths???

long time no see, Stranga!

First I want to say that I hope gacha hell brings you the endorphins and serotonin you desire. second, holy crap @the-mk-scp-anon made a drabble (Two!!!) for a series of drabbles i just kinda... left unfinished and unsent... Because of that I wanted to finish the Homubey saga at last. Just ignore the other ficlet series' I've made.

without further ado, part 5 of Homubey.

"I-I don't... I don't know what to say."

"Yeah, no shit. Even after everything we've all... we still don't know everything 'bout Gems and the rat and-"

"How can- do you still persist? After all that you go through, have gone through, will go through? How..."

In a pocket dimension free of space and time, four friends sat around a small kotatsu table in states of perturbed confusion. Miki Sayaka sat with her head in her hands, blue locks swaying as she shook her head in habitual denial. Sakura Kyouko steadily chewed through her pack of Pockey as she stewed in anger, flames sparking in and out from her crimson ponytail. Tomoe Mami had slumped over the table and stroked the back of the creature that sat between them all. The Golden Senpai had given up all pretenses in maintaining her persona in order to foucs on trying to comprehend these revelations.

Akuma Tamura sat on her knees, facing the creature dead in the eyes, dull purple staring into shimmering violet.

With every aspect of the failed timeline desrcibed in vivid detail, the experience of having one's mind be forcibly expanded and rapidly filled with impossible knowledge - even through secondhand retelling - along with the fall out the constant candidates were left to writhe in; Tamura had thought herself too numb by alternate realities and tragedies, falling down the path that many Akemi's most often crawl down. It was with a twisted sense of relief that the pain Miki Sayaka and Kaname Madoka endure was able to still shake the (mostly) stoic Akuma Tamura, even if it filled the time traveler with a desire to find some form of self-inflicted punishment.

Silence permeated the air, the other Akemi's having left the premisis to ignore the Incubator drone and revelations it brought. The only remaining time traveler poured out another glass of cider for herself, leaving the half empty bottle in between them all; She downed the cup before slamming it back down on the table, hand threatening to shatter the glass.

"To think that not even the Incubator knew of such a fatal flaw in its own vessals. To create drones to manipulate and control, yet to not consider a moron's curiousity..." Tamura's shoulders slumped, head tilted down to the table. "Is this pure ignorance, or was this merely an oversight for a soulless creature?"

"Regardless of the answer, the fact remains that I am now confined to this admittedly fragile body." The now christened Homu-bey merely stared at the despondent alternate version of herself, her tail twitching as it batted away her ex-senpai's hand.

The silence was broken by another Pockey stick being thouroughly reduced to crumbs, scarlet flames turning back to crimson locks. Ashy wisps escaped from Kyouko's mouth as she asked, "What aren't you tellin' us?"

The snarl brought the other two magical girls out of their stupors, Sayaka glancing between the two Homuras while Mami stared at her ex-protege. The Crimson Lancer glanced between the two before slamming a fist down on the table.

"Don't tell me you guys are just gonna accept it just like that? We know how things work for them all, how they're booted back here after they "fail" their timeline." The redhead grabbed the scruff of Homu-bey's neck, the little creature unconciously going limp as she hanged in front of ruby eyes. "So tell us Homs, what happened in the end?"

The once empty vessel sent an empty thank you to the Incubator for creating drones with the bare minimum of expression. Had she been able to Homu-bey would have undoubtedly winced at the scathing accusation from her friend. Fear and anxiety replaced the controlled apathy Homu-bey forced herself to feel, the simple fabrication now threatening to be torn like the moist towlette it was.

"I assure you, Sakura-san, that everything that I've told you is all that occurred. Now would you kindly set me down-"

"Oh shut it, Homs. You're gettin' flowery with your words, you went to formalities instead of bein' casual with us." The redhead lowered the little creature back to the table, keeping her hold on the black not-cat with a thumb and finger. "You probably never noticed you did, or ya have but never really put it together."

With one hand already keeping her in place Homu-bey expected the other to find purchase on her form soon after. When the other palm placed itself upon her head she expected a loose grip on her skull, not the soft carress of a warm palm. Neither had she expected to see such terrible sadness well up in the scarlet eyes of Sakura Kyouko.

"Why're ya scared, Homs? What's got ya so worried that you're thinking ten steps ahead again?"

... Of course. Despite everything in the damn multiverse, despite all the hardships and tribulations they've all faced, Homura was still amongst the people closest to her heart. She was amongst peers - family at this very moment in between time and space, and one of her closest friends was currently outing her attempt at withdrawn secrecy. Of course Kyouko would be the first to notice the wrongness of her tale's end, second only to the literal other version of herself just nearby.

Even so, this can not stand.

"Sakura Kyouko... Release me from your grasp." Homu-bey did not wince when felt the warmth be replaced with cold air, nor did she need to compose herself to continue her lie. How easy it was to be heartless when in a once empty husk. "All that I have said is all that has occurred. It would be appreciated if you did not question my integrity or my honesty.

"To sate your curiosity... that timeline ended as all timelines do."

Pink eyes stared down at the unmoving form of Akemi Homura, tucked away in the bed within the spartan bedroom. In stark contrast to the last time Madoka saw the brunette, Homura looked relaxed, eyes closed with an almost peacful look on her face. She had been changed out of the Mitakihara school uniform and dressed with a slightly open sleep shirt.

An ugly and fresh scar was left to fester on the transfer student's porcelain chest.

With a shaky breath Madoka sat at the edge of the bed, carding a hand through ebony locks as her vision grew misty. The sounds of her stiffling breaths overpowered the omnipresent noise of the clockwork contraption in the other room, the soft silk of the blankets growing damp with every passing second.

"There is no need to cry, Kaname Madoka. They will do no good at any rate..."

The sudden intrusion of her mind, of a familiar voice she heard hours ago -and in many other times- released Madoka from the spiral of despair she threw herself in. Lifting her gaze from the unmoving body, Madoka met the unblinking gaze of Homura's new set of eyes. The ebony creature nestled at the barren folding desk looked on with unabashed apathy, fitting for its origins. A few seconds passed before the crying girl composed herself, brushing away the torrent of tears that continued to leak out.

"I'm sorry, Homura-chan. It's just so- so cruel." The pink haired girl sniffled, returning to her previous affection. "To have to leave you here, alone, with no one to come find you... it hurts so much."

"It is not an uncommon fate for Magical Girls. You should recall that Tomoe would have - should have - met a similar fate. It was merely luck that I left behind my body while she would not."

Homura crept slowly on her paws, edging closer to the edge of the table. Leaping the small distance to the bed, the small feline-esque creature moved to nestle herself in Madoka's lap. The girl in turn absently ran a hand through the polyester like fur, ruffling the purple markings and sealed chamber on Homura's back. Silence enveloped the two, lost in their own world now. How long Homura wished for such a peaceful experience, a quiet moment to share with Madoka, only to have it as she is now.

"... You know what I'm going to do, right Homura-chan?" Madoka stopped her petting, steeling herself with flaky determination. The once human girl merely flicked an ear in response, unwilling to move.

"... I do, Madoka-san. It is in your nature to, after all. I just fear that..."

"What exactly do ya mean by that, Homs? You just turn back the clock whenever you want or can, yeah?"

"Normally, we would use our magic, our Shield, to go back to March 16th. It is the only day we are able to repeatedly return to, after nearly two months have passed.

"But in my experiences, sometimes we can't use our magic to go back in time, regardless if we want to or should."

"Tamura-san, what do you mean by that?"

"... There have been times, where a specific event must occur for me to use my power. And it is a frequently occuring event amongst all of us who travel to this place."

"Don't worry Homura-chan. This is my choice, and I trust you to help me with my decisions. So don't feel bad if anything happens, just remember to respect my decision to try it, okay?"

"... Kaname Madoka... what is your heart's greatest desire?"

"But that doesn't make any sense! If I did that and you made us all remember everything, how'd the Transfer Student-"

In another time, in another life, a foreigner laid in bed, curled around a small cat like creature. Her shut eyes leaked out tears as the purple eyed being did her best to comfort the sad and hurt girl, her paws caked in blood and white fur.

Mami Tomoe turned an everyday bat into an enchanted one, including giving it a brand new appearance, to give to a defenseless Sayaka Miki. But it was only good enough to go against familiars, so it was more of a comfort weapon while Mami took care of the real problem. Homura Akemi, not sure if she could even infuse her magic into an object, decides that she needs to find something better all by herself. She knew deep down that there was an underlying danger when it comes to the decision to rely completely on an enchanted weapon from someone else. The person who infused the weapon could, intentionally or accidentally, cut off that magic from the object’s core. That abrupt or slow, depending on the circumstances, change from the object could spell big trouble when Homura is in battle. Then there was the grim fate of a magical girl falling in battle, which would instantly mean that the enchanted weapon would no longer be infused with magic. Both problems were something that needed to be acknowledged. An enchanted weapon was for the peace of mind instead of real combat. Her time magic would be able to save herself from dodging any disaster. If only her wish could give her a weapon...

Desperate to find something to use as her signature weapon of choice, Homura began to follow any suspicious leads. The training with the golf club had shown her that a regular weapon would not be suitable to go against witches. The golf club could have possibly been infused with someone’s magic, but it would have only been able to last for so long. Especially against a witch. Crafting homemade bombs in her home during her free time were not enough. Sayaka did not enjoy having the experience of being caught in the bombs that blossomed forth loudly in fiery passion. Homura does not necessarily blame Sayaka for not liking the flurry of bombs. The blue-haired female had every right to complain since she did engage in close combat. Homura knew that she needed to get better. She had to get better. She would not rest until she could hold herself in combat. Fueled by the growing stress over the likelihood of her bombs hitting civilians or fellow fighters that sold their souls, Homura knew that she needed to get find resources.

With this desire burning in her heart, Homura had set out to go into a forest. It is dubbed as the Lost Forest, but Homura did not realize how the name was true to its word. She had gotten lost after a good amount of time in the towering forest. Neglecting to realize that her cellphone’s battery life was low, her chances of relying on her phone were nonexistent. Homura kept her wits about her after she calmed down... until she ran into a wolf. A talking wolf. It had a pretty gem dangling from its neck. It was such a rich blue color while it was attached to a golden chain around its neck. Homura, tired and maybe a little hungry, did not panic so loudly. She froze, acting like a deer caught in headlights. She is not sure what caused her body to grow still or her breath to catch in her throat. She could have written it up as fear from seeing a wolf, one that apparently has impeccable taste for jewelry. But she could have also been captivated by the dangling gemstone. It brightly shimmered in the fading afternoon sunlight... until her trained yet still tired eyes caught the swirl of darkness swim to the surface of the gemstone.

Realization dawned on her as soon once she registered the taint showing itself in this soul gem. Homura suspected, perhaps in a blind state of wary panic, that this wolf had somehow gotten itself someone else’s soul gem. The thought of a corpse, once breathing and full of dreams, wasting away on the forest floor because they lost their soul gem to a wolf sounded awful. There is a limit on how far someone can go without their soul gem, after all. She hastily activated her shield without a second thought. She disappeared from the wolf’s sight in order to comb through the forest, pushing herself forward to try to find the corpse. She did not allow time to play again until she quickly figured out that the frozen wolf had not gotten hold of someone’s soul gem. No, that soul gem belonged to the wolf. Embarrassed, Homura had returned sluggishly back to the frozen wolf and resumed time. Watching the wolf’s startled and confused reaction to her sudden reappearance from behind would have been a little funny... But Homura did not focus on anything else. An outstretched hand reveals a grief seed. She is offering to give to the shifter after making an slightly startling observation. Homura did not find anything to help her with weapons in these mysterious woods, but she will later learn that she found an interesting friend.

Little did they know, but this would not be the last time that they would cross paths. Robin could write and write away about everything they did together in her journals, but only Homura would remember each encounter that spanned time and space.

She will always remember the good and the bad.

*Flashback*

Aya Asagiri : No! stop! I don't want a miserable life like this!

Kaname Asagiri : Miserable life, you say? Well guess what, I got a 98 on my test and I had to get many punches from your dad! Torturing and tormenting you would allow you to make yourself a human target.

Tsuyuno : You stubborn fools! Do you realize what you have been doing!? Aya had nothing wrong do with her life, she's only 14 and heartless humans like you are ruining everything for her and me!

Aya : Please, I just didn't want this to happen! I...I blame the author for that!

Kaname Asagiri : You couldn't give two sh*ts about you Aya! I've been punched in the stomach three times a day! And do you know what it's like to be a bat-sh*t crazy guy who likes to torture innocent girls!? You have a great life about your experience in Real World AU, Aya. What will it be? (Neoshadows appears)

Aya Asagiri : AAAH!! No! Not like this again! Please, don't hurt me! (uses gun to shoot at the Heartless, but didn't work on them)

Neoshadows : (look at each other) HAHAHAHAHA!

Aya Asagiri : Huh? (shoots at them again, but still didn't work on them) Why aren't you going away!?

Neoshadow 1 : Hahahaha! Foolish young girl, that kiddie toy doesn't work on us! *GUNSHOT X2*

(Neoshadows dies and vanishes)

Aya Asagiri : Wha...Who...?

Homura Akemi :Hey there. Looks like you needed my help!

Aya Asagiri : Are you really a Magical...

Me : (gives paper to Lord Phanto III)

Lord Phanto III : Oh, minor mistake. Thank you for pointing that out. The one who created this Demon Scyhe, it was our race that developed, which passed hand to hand from Jupiter , to, Mars and then to you on Earth. I upgraded it myself to make it look like it.

Or should I say, the "Wrong" hands?

Soul Evans : You mean the demon scythe that I was, was originally some kind of blade or something? a sword perhaps?

Lord Phanto III : Rhetorical, Mr. Evans, the scythe that you are...(converts the sychte into a huge-ass sword) is originally a sword.

Maka Albarn : The wrong hands. I knew him all along, father.

Moirai Albarn : Indeed, father. Maka Albarn didn't knew that she directly under the influence of Shinra Himself and now her influence is beginning to spread even further!

Maka Albarn : What!? Now you're saying that Darkside Death is going to use my influence to combine with Shinra's! I should've known we've been duped from the start! Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime, books, movies or tv series)? Thanks....

I LOVE THIS QUESTION!

So in no particular order, my top 10 favorite characters:

Let's just these guys out of the way because everyone is going to yell at me for loving the same trope: Dabi/Todoroki Touya from Boku no Hero, Jason Todd/Red Hood from Batman, and Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier from Marvel:

Yes, I do love ppl who were sweet to begin with but then died and came back for VENGEANCE as a darker self. :DDD I am hoping that similar to Bucky and Jason, Dabi can successfully make the turn from anti-villain to anti-hero (and if Horikoshi kills off Dabi, I'm done).

Speaking of anti-heroes, next is our badass magical girl who never gives up (to her detriment in the end), Akemi Homura from Madoka Magica:

The way she uses her time stop skills are amazing, and say what you want, but this girl does ultimately manage to reach her goals in the end (....by maybe destroying the world, but hey, that's also impressive in some ways!)

Next up is our favorite Ankh-Morpork Watch Commander from the Discworld series, His Grace, Duke Sam Vimes:

Grumpy, tired, cynical, but by god, he's going to track down the perpetrators and protect the people of the city! His arc from bright wide-eyed idealist to drunk to respected commander of the city watch is really something to behold through the series, and he's why the Watch books in the Discworld series hold such a special place in my heart.

Now for another character who only exists in books (to my sorrow): Mara Jade from Star Wars:

Technically she only exists in Star Wars Legends now because Disney was evil and decided to retcon her and a ton of other things out of existence, but I LOVE HER ANYWAY AND SHE'S STILL CANON TO ME. Former Emperor's Hand who is cast adrift after the death of Palpatine, she very slowly befriends and then falls in love with her former target, Luke Skywalker, and becomes a Jedi Master as well. She is the best thing in the old Star Wars books, and really, you should read some of them just for her.

Continuing with the scifi theme, let's talk about ART from the Murderbot novels:

Nope, ART isn't the humanoid figure on this cover, that's Murderbot (who I also love). ART is the ship! ART stands for Asshole Research Transport (Murderbot's affectionate name for it), although its formal name is Perihelion, Peri for short. ART is a super-intelligent ship who is snarky as hell but also wibbles and has to take a moment when watching a show where characters die/may die. It's also fiercely protective of its crew and friends, as evidenced when it threatens to bomb a colony to oblivion if they don't return the captured Murderbot.

Switching back to anime, let's introduce Hiruma Yoichi from Eyeshield 21:

Hiruma is the trigger-happy captain of the Deimon Devil Bats and the driving force for most of the series since he's the one running recruitment and training for a lot of the series. He has blackmail on absolutely everyone, an arsenal of a small army, and believes that intimidation and psychological warfare are the way to go! He's absolutely hilarious, but he also cares deeply for his team members and friends.

Going with the mind game masters, we have to mention Maeve from Westworld:

Ignoring season 3 (because season 3 was kind of a mess), Maeve might have been programmed to go off course, but she charted her own path forward ultimately, dragging in allies and new programming along the way. I was happy she got to save her daughter, even if she couldn't ultimately be with her, and I hope she gets a new plotline in season 4!

And finally, the Revered Daughter of Drearburh Harrowhark Nonagesimus from the Locked Tomb series:

Look, if you can't already tell, I love gothic stuff, and Harrow is the ULTIMATE GOTH. Necromantic genius, brooding, sarcastic but with a very hidden, soft squishy center, I knew I loved her as soon as she was invited to a birthday party and proceeded to festoon herself in the most glorious of her dark clothes, repaint her face twice, then brood nervously over how to interact with people at a party.

So there we go! My top 10!
