7. Brewing Reflections
In the peaceful serenity of his den, Bearbo embarked on a simple yet cherished act: making himself a cup of coffee. It wasn't a ritual or part of a strict routine; rather, it was a gentle indulgence he allowed himself when the need arose.
As Bearbo crushed the coffee beans to a finer consistency, he spoke, his voice carrying the weight of vulnerability. "In those earlier chapters," he murmured, "I told how i couldnt help but think that i was lazy and simply not good enough" The aroma of freshly ground beans filled the air.
"I believed what i was told." He filled a kettle with water, placed it on the stove, and kindled the fire beneath it. While waiting for the water to boil, his voice softened and contemplative, he continued. "I briefly touched upon the subject of hyperfixations." Bearbo's gaze shifted to the drip stand before him. He set a pot underneath it and lined it with a fine cloth. Pouring the coffee grounds into the cloth. The kettle reached its boiling point.
Slowly, Bearbo poured the hot water onto the grounds, mesmerized by the interplay unfolding. The dry grounds absorbed the water, creating a small dent in the center as it filtered through. "And I believe I touched on losing a sense of time and growing irritable when interrupted."
With the coffee brewed, Bearbo filled a mug, savoring the familiar aroma. He settled into his beloved armchair, ready to continue his story.
In the heart of a lush forest, nestled among towering trees and dappled sunlight, lay Bearbo's childhood home. As the youngest cub among his siblings, he gazed up to his older brothers with wide-eyed admiration, wanting their acceptance and friendship. Bearbo eagerly immersed himself in their forest adventures, eagerly exploring their hobbies and passions. However, as his brothers grew older, their paths began to diverge. The teenage years brought about a transformation, leading them away from playful games meant for younger bears. Bearbo found himself on the outskirts, observing from the shadows as his brothers forged new connections and followed their own trails.
In the midst of this transformative period, Bearbo discovered a kindred spirit in his sister, who was closer to his age. Despite their contrasting natures, they found common ground and embarked on their own woodland adventures, fueled by unbridled curiosity. Together, they shared laughter and understanding, supporting each other's pursuits and finding joy in the shared experiences.
However, their mother's perception of their individuality was clouded by her own biases. Instead of fostering an environment that celebrated their unique interests, she intentionally stoked a destructive rivalry between Bearbo and his sister. Their mother disapproved of Bearbos "obsession" with gaming, pretending to take interest only to dismiss it as a redundant pursuit. To further undermine their passions, she sought his sister's opinion, well aware that she did not share Bearbo's enthusiasm for virtual quests. By pitting them against each other, their mother attempted to discourage their behaviors.
In a similar fashion, Bearbo's sister reveled in adorning herself with nature's wonders. However, their mother dismissed her interests as superficial, deeming them a frivolous waste of time. Seeking validation, their mother would turn to Bearbo, knowing he did not share or understand his sister's affinity for such bear-beautification. In doing so, their mother aimed to reinforce her perspective and suppress their individuality, like a towering tree overshadowing the unique flowers beneath its canopy.
The intentional undermining of their passions and interests left Bearbo and his sister feeling diminished and invalidated. They began to question the worthiness of their own pursuits, doubting themselves at every pawstep.
Bearbo's mother's actions stemmed from her desire for control, attempting to mold her cubs according to her own ideals. But in her misguided efforts, she failed to recognize the value and beauty of their individuality. Instead of fostering an environment of understanding and acceptance, she unknowingly perpetuated a cycle of self-doubt and resentment, casting a shadow over their familial bond.
The sting of his mother's derision left deep wounds within Bearbo's spirit, like claw marks etched upon his bark. It made him question the value of his own passions and interests, causing him to retreat and keep them hidden within his den. Fearful of ridicule and judgment, he guarded his true flame, only revealing it when he felt certain he wouldn't face reproach. When Bearbo delved into his passions, a phenomenon known as hyperfocus beckoned him with its captivating embrace, like a gentle breeze guiding him deeper into the forest of his imagination. In those moments, his mind transformed into a lush playground of boundless creativity and inspiration. Whether he immersed himself in virtual realms, painted onto canvas, lost himself in the pages of enchanting stories, or sounds of untamed melodies, Bearbo was transported to a realm where the external world blurred, and all that existed was the sheer bliss of indulging in his passions.
During these moments of intense concentration, even the softest disturbances threatened to fracture his unwavering focus. Despite his best efforts, Bearbo struggled with impulse control, which acted as a catalyst, intensifying the storm of emotions within him. He understood that others might find it perplexing and become frustrated when he grew agitated over seemingly insignificant disruptions. Bearbo constantly reminded himself not to let these instances bother him, aware of the strain it placed on his relationships.
However, the recurring conflicts and misunderstandings should have served as a telling sign for his parents. Rather than solely placing blame, it could have prompted them to consider the possibility of an underlying mental health disorder, fostering an environment of understanding and support.
The judgments, ridicule, and discomfort bearbo experienced at home etched lasting scars on his spirit, heightening his self-consciousness and fostering deep-seated mistrust in others. Bearbo began to believe that something was inherently wrong with him, questioning why he couldn't fit into the mold expected by others. It seemed as if he could never truly be himself without facing criticism or rejection, threatening to extinguish the vibrant flame burning within him.

BEAR WIZARD!!! PLEASE TELL ME ALL ABOUT BEAR WIZARD 🐻🔮
FUCK YES MY BEARBO.
So we've only had one meeting for character creation for this campaign, and we'll meet up again in November. It's a short spinoff campaign set in a magical interdimensional travelling circus. Our DM is way more focused on creativity and fun rather than following the exact game mechanics so gave us free reign with our characters and backstory. To wit, this is early on and I look forward to learning more about Thorn as I play.
SO, MY BEARBO THORN.
-Thorn was born not as a bear, but as a human.
-Growing up in their village wasn't the best time, and combined with a natural interest in magic, led to them at a young age seeking to learn as much as they can to get out of their crummy little home.
-So young Thorn set about learning about magic from whatever piecemeal places they could and became especially proficient at fortune telling and mild future sight - thus WIZARD CLASS.
-They then learned about said circus and that there were beings that came to the circus that could grant you a wish in exchange for an offering.
-The circus came to their plain of reality at age 13, so Thorn went, sought out a tiny magical creature and did not think through their wish to "always have the strength of a bear."
-Thus Thorn was transformed into a bear and shot off, at first joyful thinking they had become a werebear and gloried in their new massive form, when realizing that the change was permanent they returned to the circus seeking the being who cursed them, but by the time the circus shifted dimensions, it was clear that creature was no longer there.
-Armed only with a piece of clothing left by the creature (a pixie or fairy from its size), Thorn decides the only thing to do is to offer themselves up for work at the circus to continue travelling with them in hopes that the being will return and will fix the wish.
-Unfortunately, the circus travels on an 8-YEAR-CYCLE.
-So we are starting 16 years later, with Thorn age 29 and having lived as a bear all this time. They work as a fortune teller. They offered to the circus management that they can just be paid a salary of food while stashing away tips from guests for when they regain their ability to become human again.
-Thorn is now a very bitter and jaded bear-person, what with 16 years at Job. What really grinds their gears is people assuming they are a trained performing dancing bear. They wear a purple cloak to try to dissuade people from this assumption (and there aren't a lot of clothes bears can easily change in and out of). This is not successful.
So yeah there is still plenty that Thorn has not yet revealed to me in play that I shall learn!

This is bearbo. The most valid ship. After literal years of analysis I can confirm that Bear loves Bo more than anyone else can love anyone else. He certainly loves him more than his wife.
The best thing about this ship is, it's not romantic/sexual unless you want it to be. Honestly it's the perfect QPR/QPP relationship we've all been looking for. It's far more than friendship and there's the added layer of them being brothers. Their relationship is more than those things though. They're so incredibly emotionally close and close in general, they live together for sometimes more than half the year. They share their whole lives with each other. They've learned to voice the worst of life's struggles together. They share these looks that make you finally realize what the word love means, but theirs is a difficult to define love.
They're partners made for each other, living this glorious life together and more people need to know.

Update from Bearbo: Winter Reflections
Dear readers,
As I sit here in the depths of my den, I find myself enveloped by a sense of winter's embrace. Depression, much like the icy winds, has cast a shadow upon my furry existence. Its chilling presence tempts me to withdraw, to seek solace in the safety of hibernation. The joys that once warmed my heart now seem distant and faded, their radiance obscured by the cold fog of melancholy.
Even the simple act of nourishment has lost its luster amidst this wintry season. The flavors of my meals have become dull as moss and mud, leaving me with little appetite to savor the sustenance that awaits. But I bring you a glimmer of hope, as I feel the stirrings of my appetite gradually returning, bringing with it a renewed zest for the tastes that once delighted me.
Yet, the true challenge lies in confronting the traumas that have remained concealed within me for far too long. These experiences, locked away from the world and even those closest to me, have left an indelible mark on my spirit. Putting pen to paper, attempting to capture the raw essence of these moments, feels akin to trudging through deep snow. Each word carries the weight of my emotions, growing heavier with every step. And as if fate were not content with this burden, an erratic sleep schedule has become an unwelcome companion, exacerbating the weariness that accompanies this tumultuous journey.
I pen these words with a mixture of apprehension and resolve, for I know that the path ahead may be arduous. Yet, even in the midst of winter's grasp, I draw strength from the resilience inherent in the natural world. The trees shed their leaves, the animals seek refuge in their dens, and yet, with the passage of time, the seasons inevitably change, breathing new life into the dormant landscape. It is my deepest wish that by sharing my own struggles, I may offer solace and understanding to those who find themselves grappling with their own battles.
Please bear with me as I navigate these icy waters, for I am committed to sharing my journey, unearthing the untold chapters of my life.
-Bearbo

This^^^ but Bearbo. Just like this, Bearbo isn't about anything that would be rated above PG-13. It's about just the two of them, building this massive thing out of nothing, rising all the way out of their tiny, broken down hometown and making it to Music city. It's about Bear's anxiety and Bo keeping him grounded. It's about how Bear is Bo's biggest supporter in everything he does. His biggest cheerleader. How he constantly brags about Bo's talents and beauty to anyone who will listen. It's about how Bear smiles at Bo like he's his entire world. How he looks at his brother like he made and hung the stars. It's about how Bo glances over at Bear for reassurance. It's about how Bo wrote his brother a love song, called Brother, that just reached platinum status. It's about how they both call it a love song. It's about "there is a place only you can go" It's about "return to me" It's about "I'm forever on your side" It's about "it's all for you, in my pursuit of happiness" It's about "will you still find me through smoke" It's about the difference maker music video. It's about "we're in for nasty weather but I'll ride it out with you. We won't be riding highs and lows like seasons always do." It's about "brother let me be your shelter, never leave you all alone, I can be the one you call when you're feeling low" It's about "it's your love that brings me home" It's about "you're the only thing that I have ever been sure of" and "promise I won't let you down" And "won't you talk to me" It's about how they made compromises and learned to work through their differences. It's about how they left everything they knew and their chances at a stable future with college degrees together. It's about how they laugh when they're around each other. It's about those times when one of them accomplished something incredible and the other rushes him and tackles him to the ground in a hug. It's about those early days, when they were cramming five or six guys in one van and one hotel room. It's about how the brothers still shared rooms years later. It's about how the songs they write together are the best ones. It's about "Rinehart & Rinehart." It's about how they share shirts on the road. It's about the matching tattoos. How they're so prominent and how they're identical. It's about how Bo always pushes his shoulder behind Bear's. It's about the throne photos. It's about when they did modeling gigs together. It's about how Bo teases Bear on stage. It's about the way they cover Stand by Me. It's about "I'll stand by you."It's about an unconditional love that can't be expressed in words, that's so far beyond words. That can only be expressed in music. It's about how the songs they write together touch millions of people to their core. It's about Compadres It's about "We are the Outsiders" Oh wait, all that was true half a year ago.
