Well-Behaved Women Never Make History: Meet the OCs

I had to make a lot of changes on this post so I decided to just start a fresh one. Just a side note, this is my first fic so please go easy on me. I'm pretty much learning as I go. Now, without further ado-

First, we have my main OC- Miss Claire O'Connor. Claire will be a combat medic/surgeon in Easy Company. She's 19 years old and a college student studying Pre-Med and Psychology (what I will be majoring in as well). She aspires to be a neurosurgeon and to lead the way for women in medicine (which will be very difficult for her during this time period). She starts off as a Private and makes her way to Staff Sergeant. She'll have a few love interests throughout the story and at the very end I'll decide who she ends up with. Most of these interests will be short-lived and will end up as just friends.

Next, we have an essential background character-Miss Peyton Nelson. She is Claire's childhood best friend. She is also a college student and hopes to become a journalist one day. The two of them have been best friends since they were in the fourth grade (think Tiana and Lottie but in Michigan). She helps the war effort by serving in the WAACs as a War journalist and Photographer. Again, given the time period, her experiences will be very unpleasant and often unfair. Unfortunately, this period was very unfavorable towards women, especially women of color. She and Claire will often confide in one another through frequent letters. She'll be mentioned quite a lot in the story and will make an appearance or two.

Our next background character- Noah Walters. He went to high school with Claire and is the same age as her. He is Claire's first love, however, they never dated. She's been in love with him since their freshman year. To put it simply she loved him from afar and in silence. It's very possible he felt the same way, but she never found out for sure. It didn't help that they were both quiet and introverted at school. The last time she saw him was the day of their graduation. Claire refers to him as "the one that got away". Most of her regrets revolve around never talking to him more and making her feelings known to him. He joins the Navy right before Pearl Harbor and was on the USS Oklahoma. Thankfully, he made it off the ship with only minor injuries and was soon back on the front lines, participating in The Battle of Midway. The highest rank he earns is Petty Officer First Class. He is also a Machinist's Mate, meaning that he operates and maintains the ship's machinery. He is very smart and has received offers from the higher-ups to work in intelligence, but denied them (mechanics is really his thing). He will be mentioned quite a lot and might make an appearance or two.

Now, our next two are my "later-on characters". They will appear later on in the story and won't be mentioned until their appearances.

Sean O'Leary. A young Irishman from Cork who dreams of being a pilot. He joins the Royal Air Force after The Evacuation of Dunkirk, much to his family's dismay. He will appear in the story when Easy is in Aldbourne (he may also reappear at another time after).

Benoit Desjardins. A young Frenchman from Bordeaux. He dreams of being a famous French actor. Bordeaux was a part of German-occupied France, which makes Benoit a resistance fighter. He appears during The Invasion of Normandy and is a great help to the Allied troops. (He may or may not have a bounty on his head after causing a few riots against the Axis powers during The Invasion of France in 1940 🤫.)

And there we have it! This concludes my "Meet the OCs". Next, I'm working on posting face claims for them. I will also introduce the other characters, such as family and friends that aren't overseas like these particular ones are. I hope every one enjoyed and be on the lookout for chapters, moodboards, playlists, etc.!

Kabuto is very fake-friendly, so he might say hi to the neighbors first. Remember how he greeted Naruto and make himself seem trustworthy? The neighbors would trust him too. I think his fake-friendliness would give way to the real thing post-war. He could be a very likeable neighbor.

Anko is liable to accidentally or even purposely terrify her neighbors before they warm up to her and realize she's a kind person.

who remembers to buy healthy food

Kabuto. After years of research in Orochimaru's disturbing labs, he knows nutrition very well, down to everyone's exact required calorie count.

"Hmm?" Neon looked up from her holo, one hand still on Noodles. The cat purred; the sound was a little loud. Even across the room Night could hear it. He questioned if that was due to Neon putting the thing together herself or just part of the features.

"Just thinking out loud," he mused.

"It's a good question, they already have high tech drones and shit, why make something like this?" the loving way Neon looked at Noodles gave Night his answer.

"Because of that," he pointed at her, she returned a look of confusion. "What would you have a harder time shooting? A drone or something like?"

"You saying Millitech is gonna make an army of combat cats?"

"You never fucking know. But if there's another corpo war brewing, having a few of these in a war zone would really fuck with whoever was on the other side of the field."

Neon's playful face took on a hard look, "If anyone shoots Noodles, I'll fucking gut them."

This is not the first time I've written inserts for my husband and I. Its always so fun because it comes really natural and I don't have to worry too much how my dialogue flows.

Today is the one-year anniversary of my very first rec list, which I posted in r/hpslashfic on Reddit. I'm sharing it over here to celebrate the hobby that has brought me a lot of joy over the past year. I want to thank my fandom bestie @consistentsquash for inspiring me to start reccing with her incredible rec lists and for motivating this list theme in the hopes of finding one time travel fic she'd like!

I'll warn you up front that this rec list showcases a very different lineup of HP fics than the ones I typically discuss on tumblr. It was curated very intentionally for the HP slash subreddit, which brings together fans of all HP slash and femslash ships. It's a very different community ethos than the ship/character bubbles we tend to stick to here on tumblr, and I made a point of including all of the major slash ships. I suspect most of my followers here will have negative interest in reading at least half of the fics on this list, and that's fine! A New Beginning by LullabyKnell

Summary: Narcissa wakes with the certain feeling that something is terribly wrong.

Draco is acting differently, Narcissa is worried, Lucius is confused, and a meeting inside Madam Malkin's goes very differently from the way it happened the first time around.

My Review: This is a short but fun fic in which Draco time travels back into his  11-year-old life and body, with the twist that Narcissa is the POV  character. As a reader who knows what's going on, it's amusing to watch Draco's attempts to behave the way he thinks he did at that age fall completely flat with his baffled, quietly panicking parents. LullabyKnell always does a great job making the magical world feel as whimsical and alive as in the early Harry Potter books; in this fic, for example, the portraits of Malfoy Manor are clearly drawn characters in their own right. LullabyKnell also writes in a straightforward, unassuming prose that doesn’t beat around the bush, which I appreciate. I think those of you who exclusively read Drarry would still enjoy "A New  Beginning" even though it's not a Drarry fic.

Note: This fic has a slightly longer sequel from Ron's POV that's also worth a read if you like this one.

As they prepare for the impending war, Sirius must find a place for himself in this new world, Harry must find a way to destroy Voldemort, and Remus must face his own past while trying to build a tenuous future with Tonks.

My Review: This is a pre-DH fic in which the Marauder's Map spits out a 16-year-old version of Sirius the summer after Harry's Sixth Year. It's an iconic example of the fan-written takes on how the series might end ahead of the publication of Deathly Hallows, in part because copperbadge  correctly predicted that Harry himself was a horcrux. "Cartographer's Craft" isn't time travel, strictly speaking, but I think it fits the theme of the post because Sirius has to find his place in the unfamiliar future he has been thrust into. Sirius and Remus's interactions are both lovely and somewhat awkward, as they would be in this scenario. Speaking as someone with limited interest in Remadora, I adore Remus and Tonks's relationship in this one, and the family that the two of them create with Harry and Sirius is such a joy. While I wish Ron and Hermione were more present in this story because I love the trio together, Sirius and Harry's relationship is very sweet as they slowly open up to one another and fall in love.

Eternally Consistent by kitsunealyc

My Review: This one is somewhat difficult to review without spoiling anything, so my apologies for being vague. "Eternally Consistent" is not a time travel fic in the sense of most of the others on this list. It has a clever and complex plot, likable and engaging characters, and hot sex scenes. Every time I thought I'd figured out where the story was going the author threw another curve ball. Magical theory buffs will find that in spades here between Draco and Hermione. (Also, Hermione/Millicent!) Harry and Draco have a great dynamic in this fic. Their antagonistic  history isn't ignored and they find each other to be so predictable, but they also amuse one another greatly and are just very cute together. This fic has excellent reread value because you'll be able to piece together how the author constructed the story.

My Review: "face death in the hope" opens with a time-traveling Harry saving Regulus in the cave with the locket horcrux. I love the various flavors of Regulus across LullabyKnell's stories, and Harry and Regulus (the two POV characters) really carry the story here. Neither one is consistently likable, but they're relatable, complex, and believably young and overwhelmed. Marlene McKinnon is a fantastic mess of an OC, and she's my favorite character in this fic after Regulus. The plotting is intricate, with fascinating and original B, C, and D plots happening alongside the main story. The pacing is glacial but dense; there is a lot of sitting around and talking and not a lot of action. This will not  be everyone's cup of tea. However, the conversations and introspection give the reader a very intimate view into the characters' development and evolving relationships with one another in a way that I personally love.

Note: This fic has a (shorter) companion fic that explores alternate POVs of some events and missing scenes, adding a lot of depth to how we interpret Harry and Regulus's view of events in the main fic.

Heir Apparent by MonsieurClavier

A confused Harry plays along for the sake of self-preservation, but living with his “father” is proving to be intolerable in more ways than one.

My Review: For those of you who missed this fic blowing up last year, the first thing  you need to know is that "Heir Apparent" is very much crack treated seriously. Just... keep that in mind while you read this review. This fic features a time-traveling Harry Potter who lands in front of  Voldemort in 1963. Voldemort assumes that Harry is his son, and then between his narcissism and his total lack of self-awareness he becomes  creepily obsessed with Harry. Harry is very overwhelmed by this. Harry here isn't really the Harry we know from canon; he's still got his  defiance and compassion, but he's sweeter than I imagine him. I know  this one will be a hard sell given that I feel compelled to point out that it’s technically not incest because Voldemort only thinks  that Harry is his son, but this fic really is hilarious. There are a few chapters that I revisit whenever I need a good disbelieving giggle. I"m not entirely sure where this one is going, but I'm happily along for the ride.

Unfortunately, just as victory finally arrives, an unlikely escape triggers an unexpected beginning.

My Review: This fic is divided into three acts and begins ten years after canon in a hyper-magical, post-apocalyptic Britain where Voldemort still reigns. Act One is a very cinematic depiction of this world's final battle between Harry and Voldemort, and the mechanism that sends Harry and  Teddy back to the canon era is one of the most creative I've seen. Act Two is what earned "into the arena" a spot on this list. Teddy takes center stage at this point and is just delightful. This poor kid has no idea how to function in a non-post-apocalyptic society. Teddy's wild ride through Act Two involves two of my favorite minor OCs ever and some excellent encounters with canon characters, one of which makes me cry happy tears every time I read it (and I'm not a happy crier). The worldbuilding in Act Three is fascinating, but I should warn you that this fic has a very open/ambiguous ending. That said, read this fic for Act Two. We stan Act Two.

Note: This fic has a shorter AU version in which a Delphi who has been raised as Harry's daughter is there too, and things go even more off the rails with both Delphi and Teddy in the mix.

My Review: My fellow Tomarry skeptics, this is the one you should read. "love is touching souls" is a beautifully written, moving look at what would happen if a post-war Harry, with all his memories of Voldemort, met Tom at the time that Tom worked at Borgin and Burkes. Their past is  taken seriously, and they work through those issues instead of conveniently ignoring them. Harry is a believable evolution of the Harry we know from the books; he's an adult who has been shaped by war and  loss, but he retains his bravery, temper, compassion, and wit. He's  stubborn and fights for what he believes in, and in this fic that's Tom's ability to forge a better path for himself. Tom is charming, devious, and layered, and the author doesn't fall into either of the common pitfalls of writing him as one-note evil or simply misunderstood. Their relationship is both desperate and steady, and it feels like fate when they finally come together.

Note: This fic has a bittersweet but hopeful secret sequel.

Promised Eternity (A Ring of Endless Light Remix) by victoria_p (musesfool)

My Review: Fandom  history time! This 2005 fic is a classic example of the post-OotP  "Bring Back Black" genre. It’s also a remix of a 2004 fic, setissma's "Promised Eternity". Remixes seem to have fallen out of favor these days, but it used to be quite popular to reimagine someone else's work with their permission and put your own spin on it. Flipping the POV and exploring a missing scene were two common remix strategies, and Victoria P. does both here. (Fun fact: Victoria P. ran the main multi-fandom remix/redux challenge for about a decade.) I recommend reading both fics, starting with the original Remus-POV "Promised Eternity," but you don't have to read the original to enjoy the Sirius-POV "A Ring of Endless Light," which is the one that really explores the time travel aspect. The remix is a lovely blend of what could have been and what was. The two fics, both together and on their own, are about Remus and Sirius learning to take advantage of the second chances they're granted and the love that's been there all along.

My Review: This is a very skillfully executed and realistic fic in which Harry goes back in time and meets a younger Severus Snape. Like most of the others on this list, they meet as adults; Severus has never met Harry in his  life, but Harry has already seen Severus die right in front of him.  These aren't necessarily my favorite Harry and Severus characterizations that I've read, but they're very rich and believable for this story,  Snape's in particular. The non-linear narrative works well here, and Mia Ugly's writing is evocative without lingering unnecessarily. Harry and  Severus's desperation and longing are palpable, and I both cried and beamed at my phone while reading this fic. It's a very emotional, moving  take on the Snarry dynamic, and those of you who like angst with your romance as I do will find that here. Thanks to @consistentsquash for suggesting I start here when I asked for some Snarry time travel recs to find one to include in this list!

My Review: Lavender/Tom is probably the oddest pairing I have ever read, but it somehow really works here. Lavender time travels to the 1940s and begins working as a Seer to make ends meet, which is how she meets Tom and ends up investigating a mysterious murder. Lavender is really fascinating in this story; she's a pragmatic adult who survived a traumatizing war, but she retains her femininity, her brash confidence, and her...  selfishness? Selfishness in the sense that she looks out for herself and  her own and doesn't go out of her way to be righteous. Tom is very  amoral and ambitious, but he respects Lavender and what she can do. I feel like they both have equal power in the relationship, which you  wouldn't expect. Speaking of remixes, I would love to read one of this fic from Tom's POV. "Unfogging the Future" has great reread value with the mystery solved, because you'll be able spot clues you missed and focus more on the varied Divination techniques and occult references.

“We’re a well-oiled team of military-grade kindergarteners,” his best friend, and the only other human on the ship who would understand what kindergarten was, continued chastising him and his companions. “The level of education and training among the three of you eclipses that of the entire rest of the members of this operation,” Annabeth continued, pointing her finger individually at himself, his pilot Jason, and his Chief Science Officer Nico. “You know, I’m not that surprised with you, Percy, but you are our XO so you should really be more responsible,” he winced at that, still feeling a bit of imposter syndrome at being the Commander of the USS Olympus. “Jason, shouldn’t you be piloting a ship or something?” At that, he saluted her and did an about face before scampering off to get into more trouble. “And you, you’re definitely way too responsible to have gotten mixed up with this Seaweed Brain and Sparky, so what’s in this tomfoolery for you?”

Nico, the only Neptunian on the ship, shifted his large black wings self consciously under the scrutiny of their Chief of Operations. Percy, as the Commander of the vessel, felt obligated to protect his usually stoic and well-behaved… acquaintance? Di Angelo was reserved, almost standoffish, and resented anyone who tried to stick up for him for some reason, but that didn’t stop Percy’s stupid seaweed brain from doing so. Hence the acquaintance. Percy was 99% sure Di Angelo didn’t consider him a friend. But he was nice to Percy and a great officer, so Percy considered him his friend.

“It was my fault, Annie,” he used her childhood nickname carefully, not knowing whether it would soften her up or piss her off more. He was hoping for softening. “It was just another one of Jason and my dumb ideas that we thought we would need a scientist to help with, and we didn’t want to piss off Leo by involving him in it. You know how he is about his engineer and warp cores and whatnot,” Percy held his hands up placatingly. “Leave Di Angelo out of this, he has sciencey things to do, isn’t that right?” Percy side-eyed his companion who (not surprisingly) rolled his eyes.

“I try not to get involved with human pranks or even Jovian mischief, but Officer Grace and First Officer Jackson were about to be meddling with my linguistics team. It isn’t my duty to tell my superiors what to do, so I sought out the next best option, supervising and ensuring no lasting damage was done to the physical or emotional state of the linguistics team. Now,” Here Percy held in a smirk as Di Angelo shrugged. “If they caused interference with the machinery of the ship, that wouldn’t be my expertise, so I allowed it to happen and-” Percy held back a laugh as the other male started speaking even faster to get everything out as Annabeth turned redder and redder. “I’m very sorry about that, truly, but I had no control over the situation.”

“No control over the situation? You three broke our LIT machine and now we have to go back to Earth as soon as we pass close enough to fix it. Soon enough nobody on this ship will understand each other,” the woman across from them crossed her arms and Percy shrunk back a bit.

“I want to make a joke about a machine being called “LIT,” but I feel like it isn’t the right time,” he muttered. “I know the Linguistic Inhibition Technology is important, but most of us have a working understanding of at least one other language, so it shouldn’t be a huge issue, right?”

“You know it works by connecting to the implant technology in our brains, so as it shuts down one by one, members of this ship from spaces stations and planets far and wide will have no clue why they suddenly can’t understand their XO, or their Chief Officer, or their best friend. So you better explain this. And you have to tell them that we’re going straight back to Earth to fix it because no nearby planets have the same brain implant tech as us. Damn Terrans and their brand name technology copyrights,” Annabeth grumbled and finally turned around to walk off.

“Hey, you’re Terran, too!” Percy shouted after her, but she just flipped him the bird.

“She can do that?” Di Angelo asked, side-eyeing Percy.

“Yeah, she’s been my best friend since we were twelve. As long as she doesn’t undermine my authority in front of everyone else, I don’t really care. I’ve done way worse to her,” Percy laughed at the other man’s frown. “Nothing bad, just pranks and things of that sort. Maybe when we get back to Earth we can show you where we’re from. You never set foot off of the training grounds while you were in school.”

“I would… like that,” Di Angelo paused and gave Percy a soft smile.

“Great,” Percy patted the younger male on the shoulder and made his way to the Command Center.

Percy sat himself down in the rotating chair and pressed on the comms device.

“Gooooood evening crew of the USS Olympus, this is your Commanding Officer, Percy Jackson, speaking,” he smiled at the engineering crew that was scuttling by, only for one of them to pause and look at him like he was speaking a different language… Whoops.

“There was a malfunction with the Linguistic Inhibition Technology and we will be returning to Earth henceforth to repair it before the damage becomes problematic. You may experience glitches with your implant technology and may revert to only understanding your first language and those you have studied extensively. If somebody looks like they’re not understanding what I’m saying right now, please escort them to the linguistics team in Science Bay 3. Carry on. Jackson, out.” He clicked again and the mic turned off.

He sighed, this would be one of his bigger mistakes. They were supposed to be exploring, but they couldn’t do that if nobody could speak to one another. One trip home couldn’t hurt him, and he was sure Annabeth would be happy to see her father.

It wasn’t until later after the Chief Officer meeting when someone finally asked Percy about Earth. For many of the non-humans on the ship, Earth was a place to get education and training to go out in the star fleet, and they never set foot outside the campus grounds, just like Di Angelo. But people had stopped asking him questions because Earth was basically “Space Australia,” as Annabeth had explained to him. The adaptability of humans and their need to pack bond astounded many and horrified many others. So, he stopped talking about home.

It was a new member of their ship, Novax (a Vulcan who was a part of Leo’s engineering team), who asked him about it first.

“I hear Earth is 75% made of pure salt water, and is filled with animals of all kinds. Do you have a favorite water animal?” he asked Percy excitedly.

“Definitely dolphins, though they aren’t underwater creatures. Like humans they need oxygen to breathe, and come up for air very often. My favorite actual underwater species would have to be a hippocampus from Neptune. I’ve always wanted to go and see one, but my human anatomy prevents me from going on-planet,” Percy explained and sipped on his hot tea.

“There are a million creatures in the ocean and you pick one that doesn’t breathe underwater?” Clarisse grunted. His Chief Tactical Officer was a brutish Martian, but very specialized in weapons. “And your second favorite isn’t even Terran.”

“What else do you know about the ‘ocean’?” Novax breathed, leaning forward.

“Eh, not much,” Percy shrugged.

“I’m not sure I heard that correctly, maybe my LIT unit isn’t functioning well,” another member of engineering asked, Nyssa. “Your planet is 75% water and you don’t even know what is inside it?”

“I could tell you about the people who spend their life learning about what survives in the deep depths,” Percy looked up, knowing he had all of the non-Terrans hooked on every word. Even Di Angelo had paused in his note taking and was staring wide-eyed at Percy. “But I don’t know if you’d want to know.”

“No we do!” Nyssa exclaimed. “There are people who dedicate their lives to a place that’s literally not navigable by humans, the main inhabitants of the planet?”

“Well as you said, most of the planet is water. Which means that coastal communities are filled with fisherman, whalers, swimmers, and more. I could tell you about some of those. I could also tell you about the scientists that spend years of their lives building bots that can’t even come close to withstanding the pressure at the deepest depths without imploding, or I could tell you about those that do come close,” he shrugged.

“What happened to those?”

“The video feed cut out after only seeing multiple rows of sharp, jagged teeth,” Annabeth answered, her sharp grin frightening those who hadn’t noticed her. Some forgot that she was Terran, because she was also half Minervan.

“I could tell you about whales. Beautiful, they come in black and white or grey or blue. But they can be as big as almost 100 feet long. That’s as long as most pirate ships. And they could fit about 400 average sized humans in their mouths. You don’t want to cross one of them. And they only live on the surface. The things that live in the deep,” Percy shuddered for effect. There were no Neptunians on the ship, so there were no natural water dwellers there, so all of his rapt listeners were shocked by this information. “There’s the anglerfish. They light up the dark with an antenna on top of their heads, and the light lures in prey. But it’s so dim elsewhere that you don’t see their big sharp teeth until you’re right up against them,” he murmured. “Giant squids are almost as big as whales but not nearly as peaceful and beautiful. They have eight arms and two tentacles that could wrap around any boat and crush it.”

“Ten limbs?” Nyssa whispered, clearly disturbed.

“Plus, the Portuguese Man o’ War,” Percy shrugged nonchalantly. “Also known as the floating terror. It’s like a big blue jellyfish that sits innocently on top of the water with huge blue tentacles that sit just underneath with a sting strong enough to kill a full grown human.”

“Don’t worry,” Annabeth grinned that shark grin again. “Percy won’t tell you about the stories of the old days. He doesn’t want to scare you.”

“That was the not scary part?” Novax gulped.

“Anyway, I just got notified that we’ll be back on Earth in a few days, so brace yourselves,” and with that, she stood and left them all staring after her. When the door clicked shut, Percy had all eyes back on him. He shrugged.

“Don’t look at me. I wasn’t going to tell you about the kr- nevermind,” he stood. “Di Angelo, with me,” the younger officer stood, back to business and was at Percy’s side again in a moment. “Clear your schedule, you’re spending shore leave with me, pal.”

“Great,” came the deadpan reply.

“Don’t sound so somber,” Percy rolled his eyes. “I’m just going to show you the beach and maybe a good gay bar. You need to let off some steam my dude.”

The other male reddened.

“That is so… That is…” he huffed. “Highly inappropriate.” he glared down at the ground and Percy felt a little bad, maybe the guy wasn’t out? But it was clear he had a preference for males. Oh well, that foot was already in Percy’s mouth.

“Fine. But I will be attending and I am a great dancer so you’re missing out,” he winked at the flustered officer and made his way back to his cabin. It would be an interesting few days.

He made a plan with Annabeth. Day one before shore leave, Percy would spread a rumor to Novax about the kraken. Bigger than a giant squid and meaner. Known to crush entire pirate ships in the olden days.

Day two, Annabeth would mention sirens to Nyssa. Hideous creatures that could lure you in with their voices and lead you to believe you were bringing your ship in to everything you ever wanted, when in reality you would crash your ships and then drown.

Day three, Percy would tell Leo about the Megalodon. A definitely very real shark so big you couldn’t even imagine it. Percy shuddered at that one.

“But, there are some good things,” Percy was speaking to Nico Di Angelo from his Commander chair, in ear shot of some of the participants of the conversation a few nights prior. “Mermaids, the siren’s nicer cousin species. And the lost city of Atlantis. Known to be a great and bountiful city, lost to the sea and cursed by the gods to be stuck down there forever. Some believe it still exists, but it’s within the Bermuda Triangle.”

“What, pray tell, is the Bermuda Triangle,” Clarisse sighed.

“Hard to explain. Ships just… go in… and they never come out,” Annabeth shrugged. “Planes go down. Ships wreck. People who go in don’t come back out, so we don’t know if Atlantis is really there or not.”

“That’s… terrifying,” Novax whispered as he walked by.

Percy was sure he had created a healthy fear of Earth’s oceans in his crew. And he meant to, because while he loved the beach and swimming, he did want to make them shy away from the depths. They wouldn’t do well to explore it.

Yandere!Dimitri x GN Reader

Early War, "Feral" Dimitri:

- Dimitri has spent so much time in suffocating, consuming darkness that realizing that he now has a chance to keep you safe- to preserve this one last speck of light in his life- rapidly develops into an obsession. There's hardly even a "confession" of feelings from him. Moreso, he just begins to hover near you at all times, his voice low and with a clear manic edge when he tells you, "I don't care what I must do, or what sins I must commit. I will keep you here. I will keep you alive. Even you yourself will not be spared punishment if you choose to endanger yourself or stray from my sight."

- You're absolutely not allowed on the battlefield, and after a fight, the first thing Dimitri does is come check on you where you're kept in your designated quarters. A handful of times, he's come back to you still covered in blood- his own and others'- caring little for his injuries in the face of his need to assure your safety. You'll likely have to either learn some basic healing yourself, or accompany him to the infirmary, as your presence is the only thing that soothes his wild bloodlust after a battle, and he doesn't even think to care for himself when he has you to focus on.

- Anyone who dares to insult or- goddess help them, harm you in any way- is dealt with swiftly and brutally. Dimitri doesn't care if he has to rip the poor bastard apart in front of you. No threat to his one last light can be tolerated. In fact, once or twice he'll specifically bring someone to you who he feels has mistreated you, and there's an almost ceremonial formality to his retribution, as he presents them to you and looks you in the eye while he breaks the target's arm behind their back like snapping a toothpick.

- His punishments when you refuse to behave for him are harsh and decisive as well. He's not above causing you physical harm or discomfort, but he doesn't prefer it, only resorting to such methods when you've done something he deems exceedingly transgressive, like getting too close to a battle, or neglecting to tell him when you go somewhere for the afternoon. For smaller infractions, like spending too much time with someone other than himself ("No one can be trusted- not with you. Not when your loss would be so grave.") or trying to challenge him regarding his methods, his punishments are more of imprisonment. He'll keep you barred in your room for a time- or his, if he feels you can't be trusted alone- perhaps even binding your wrists. "I could break you in an instant," he reminds you with a dangerous shadow across his gaze, "I choose to keep you safe. I decide that your heart still beats and you live to draw breath. Remember that."

Post-War King Dimitri:

- The main difference in behavior is that there's a veneer of calm around Dimitri's uniquely disturbed way of caring for you now. Generally, he handles you in a soft and gentlemanly fashion- but there's no mistake that the burning obsession that seized his mind long ago is still well and present. Nobles of all territories under Kingdom rule know that you are to be approached and addressed with the utmost care and respect, lest they face the wrath that still simmers deep within the King's heart.

- In fact, King Dimitri has brought offending nobles before you in the throne room to have them executed at your feet for their transgressions. With time, you may be able to convince Dimitri to at least allow you yourself to pass judgement before sentencing, but by then, the people of the Kingdom know to tread carefully in how they behave and speak to or about you.

- Your king dictates each and every aspect of your day to day life- where you go and when, and who is allowed to accompany you, how you're dressed, and what you eat. It seems like a sweet gesture to some that Dimitri quite likes feeding you by hand, but you recognize this as one more way for him to exercise control and maintain the peace of mind that it grants him. In general, your life together with the King is a comfortable one wherein you're provided any and everything you could desire- as long as you behave as your king demands.

- If you're good for him, Dimitri will be the picture of a gentleman towards you. But you know well by now that the feral beast still lurks in his past and in some dark corner of his mind, and that any threat to your safety, or indication that you may leave his life would certainly provoke him. The oprichniki came for me when I was eating in my small dining room, a book my only company. I looked up when they entered, already peering between them, behind them. “Is my husband coming?”

“He wants you in his study, moi soverenyi.”

“Oh.” Disappointed, I turned back to my book. Aleksander hadn’t bothered dining with me for the past week. Too busy, too angry, too distracted, too something. I wasn’t feeling particularly charitable about it. “Tell him I’m not really in the mood.”

It was the wrong answer. I found myself forcibly yanked from my seat, one charcoal-clad soldier holding each of my arms, preventing me from summoning. My chair clattered to the floor. I struggled, trying to kick at their shins, to make them release me.

“Our apologies, Sankta Alina,” one of them muttered. “He insisted.”

“Let me go!”

“We can drag you there or you can walk on your own,” said the other oprichnik, not as sympathetic.

“I am your queen,” I snarled.

But I knew who they were beholden to. I knew who they feared. That’s the problem with behaving: actual rules bind your conduct. People might exalt me, but I have limits. When you think you’re above morality, you can just do whatever you want.

I knew they expected me to walk, so I decided to sacrifice a little dignity. If manhandling was on the table, he’d have to face what that meant. I made the guards drag me down the hall to him, digging my heels in the entire time. They were relieved to finally push me through that study door and slam it at my back.

There was my husband, in his black kefta, standing behind his desk, tall and straight-backed. The Darkling. The Black Tsar. The Scourge of the East. All the other names he’d earned and taken over the years. To me, he was Aleksander, and he could be a real pain in the ass.

“You wanted to see me?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“Badly enough to drag me in here?”

His head was bent; he wasn’t even looking at me. “It was urgent.”

“Should I sit?”

“No. This won’t take long.” He remained standing too, his hands planted on the desk. A map of Ravka was spread out beneath his palms. “We received a tip yesterday about a rebel hideout on the outskirts of Ulensk, a warehouse where they were stockpiling weapons and other supplies.”

“And?” I asked carefully.

“And when our troops went to raid it, they found it empty.”

I crossed my arms. “Sounds like bad intel, then.”

He picked up his head. “How are you communicating with your friends, Alina?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Ignorance isn’t a good look on you.” His mouth tightened. His hands curled into fists on the desk, and he rocked some of his weight forward onto his knuckles, his frustration bleeding into the air. The room darkened ominously behind him. “How is Zoya speaking to you? How are you talking to her?”

I unfolded my arms, let them fall against my sides with an exasperated flourish. “Aleksander, I can’t say. I don’t know. If that’s all, I’ll—”

“No,” he said sharply. “You don’t leave.”

Because I knew it would annoy him, I just shrugged, unruffled. “Okay. Not leaving.”

He pushed off of his hands and paced around to the front of his desk as I watched, unmoving. “Alina, if you don’t tell me, I’ll have your attendants brought to this room, one by one. And I will make them talk.”

I then did the thing that might annoy him more than anything else. I laughed. “Saints, you think I’m using them to pass notes? That I’m stupid enough to believe you wouldn’t find out?”

“Even if you’re not, I’ll have them brought to me one by one anyway,” he continued, stalking toward me until I was forced to back up against the door, “and we’ll see how many heads need to roll before you tell the truth.”

I tipped my chin up at him, managing my best imperious glare. Saints, but he was tall. “If you do that, I will leave. You will never see me again.”

“There are cells that will hold you.”

“Forever?” I challenged. I did not break eye contact.

He sighed. “Just tell me, Alina.”

“I don’t know. I can’t.”

One of his hands rose, two fingers brushing against my jaw. His voice sounded tender, but I heard the barely leashed anger in it. “You know I hate this.”

“No, I don’t.” His hand flattened against my cheek, and I leaned into it. “If you don’t trust me, send me away. Don’t try to intimidate me through threats and brute force.”

“I’m not sending you away.” He was so close that I nearly felt the words on my skin. “Not if you talk.”

I shook my head, but I kept looking at him straight on, even as it became more of a nuzzle against his palm. A dare.

When he kissed me, I felt his rage thrumming across the bond between us. His mouth met mine with such force that I was knocked back against the door. But I was ready, and I brought my hands up to fist in his kefta, pulling him closer. My body came alive when he touched me, from the tips of my toes to my scalp, tingling as his hand fisted in my hair. His tongue slid across mine, issuing its own challenge. I met him every step of the way.

This is how we fought our wars: periods of silence, periods of heat. I heard him gasp into my mouth as I stood up taller, pressed my body against his. He bore down on me, and I would not break. I would not even bend. Once upon a time he had a ghost wife, ethereal, half-present. Not anymore. I made sure he knew it.

We were both gasping when he pulled away. His mouth looked redder than usual, almost swollen. I always considered it a victory to have left some kind of mark on him.

“Still can’t,” I whispered.

He made a sound like a growl, and I thought he was going to grab me again, but he just reached past me for the doorknob, turning it so hard I thought it might break away in his hand. But it didn’t, and he strode past me, furious, looking for some other way to cool off.

The truth was, I couldn’t tell him. I had no idea how Zoya was talking to me from halfway across the country. But she was, and I was sharing everything I knew.

And he had just left me alone in his study.

I was about to know a lot more.

How to Deal When Your Spooky Homicidal Nuclear Trashfire Disaster of a Supreme Commander Sith Lord Adopts A Child

(Inspired by @jackdaw-kraai 's Excellent Engineer Luke Skywalker 'verse)

1.  There's about a dozen of the vod'e who have been fans of Scrap Hunting from the very beginning.  Look, the kid was funny, poked fun at the same things they laughed at, albeit on the downlow, as it were, and the half of them that weren't really mechanically-inclined still found Luke Lars entertaining.  Actually, Force help them, they did end up learning SOMETHING.

2.  The 501st are also responsible for bestowing nicknames on Engineer Luke's veritable army of mouse droids.  The little guys are now fondly considered as "pets" and apparently have distinct personalities all their own.  The most infamous mouse droid is the one nicknamed "Stabby" who apparently has made it its mission to follow Darth Vader around.  Surprisingly, His Lordship doesn't mind the company and has been heard to ask the droid to relay messages to its young maker.

3.  The pilots on Lord Vader's shuttle knew what was up the moment their Lord had come back with the wide-eyed farmboy from that backwater sandpit.  Mental images of a giant black asthmatic Corellian duck fussing over their one duckling were NOT healthy things to think about in the presence of a spooky armored mind-reading space wizard so the pilots carefully thought about other things.   Like tooka kits.  Yes.  Tooka kits with sandy fur and big blue eyes.  Totally safe things to think about!

4.  Look, Trooper MTV-15387 a.k.a. Molotov wasn't sure why his Special Brand of Corellian Moonshine Hooch was suddenly the hottest commodity on board.  One of his brothers finally told him it had something to do with that engineer kid from the Outer Rim and Lord Vader.  Molotov doesn't get it, really.  But hey, business is booming and if General Veers himself actually ordered a case of his Specials, then it was all good, right?

Molotov was a bit surprised to get a "thank you" note from Alderaani Senator Bail Organa himself, congratulating him on the "excellence of your vintage."  Apparently, General Veers was generous with the treats.  

5.  Death Squadron would like it known that THEY were the first to officially adopt Head Engineer Luke Lars because of the amazing work he'd put into making sure their ships were less flying coffins and more of the badass war machines of the glorious Empire that they were supposed to be.

6.  The 501st would like to object to that.  The Goran was theirs and they were definitely keeping him, especially after the wild success of the SUTA project.  

7.  Captain Piett does not want to get into the midst of this argument.  He's fairly sure that Lord Vader has officially adopted young Luke Lars.  Piett already has all the necessary Navy forms ready for filing whenever His Lordship gives the word.   He's also gotten the same forms ready for Veers, once young Zevulon gets on board ship.

8.  Captain Piett carefully does not think about overprotective Correllian ducks and their ducklings in the presence of his mind-reading Supreme Commander either.  Even if young Luke does an incredibly good impression of a happy sunshiny duckling.  

9. Piett is just happy that Lord Vader is now mostly calm and contented enough that the ongoing betting pool of "Who's Going To Get Choked to Death Next" has quieted down.   Mostly.  Okay, so the odds are definitely on Admiral Ozzel for the whole choking business and there were a few good-natured grumbles after news of That Incident at the Imperial Ball spread through the ranks.  "Why'd the kid have to stop His Lordship then?!"  

Piett carefully pretends he hasn't heard that.  

10.  Perhaps the happiest amongst them all was The Lady Herself.  All right, so Star Destroyer A.I.'s weren't supposed to develop such distinctive personalities of their own, but then again, mechanics tended to behave and react strangely around people who happen to be Skywalkers, even if one of them pretends he's forgotten all about it and the other is carefully keeping the name secret.  The Lady had been pleased with this little one's clever hands and quick mind, the way that he had carefully sorted through all that needed to be fixed and repaired, the marks and traces left behind by careless hands and the battles the Lady had fought.  The Lady was very pleased that Her Shadow had finally found the little one.  Her Shadow had existed in pain and grief for far too long.  

She had always known that there was still good in him.

I’m curious..why do you find Hordak to be more likable in comparison to Catra? Not that I disagree, but the reasons I hear are varying, and I’m wondering on yours. Intrigued as to what the possible(though unlikely) reply will be.

Sorry that I took so long to answer, lots of stuff going on. Anyway, I will censor her name here because this totally is stuff one gets harassed for in this fandom. Also please note that I do not mean this as "you are not allowed to like her because there are things that do not work well in her arc/because she did bad things". It is just stuff I personally can't like her anymore for, if it still works out for you, I'm glad, and nobody is a bad person for liking characters that did shit wrong.

It can be summarized with that I share more similarities with how Hordak deals with his trauma and his issues than how C*tra does, and also that for me the writing of his arc, while being fairly in the background and just not much, feels solid in a way the writing of her arc does not.

I am disabled, like Hordak (though not physically disabled), and like him, I feel that I kind of have to “make up” for being disabled or else I am worthless. I am not a conquering dictator, even if certain antis did claim that for no reason and with no proof, obviously. When something fails Hordak mostly directs his anger at himself, even if he does have aggressive outbursts at his environment, but they come from not being able to process his anger. C*tra blames others when something goes wrong. For her, she herself did everything right, and she behaves like this even far into season 5 where she still claims Adora is to blame for C*tras fate, and others get attacked and abused if she is unhappy with something. As someone who always blames myself first, this is very unrelateable, hard to understand, and frankly, not particularly likeable.

Also – and I don’t mean that as you are not allowed to like her, liking characters with flaws does not mean you are a bad person – Hordak does punish people for failing or threatening his safety far too extreme, but he does not enjoy it. He thinks, in a twisted way because that is all he learned, that being a monster is the morally right thing to do. C*tra, on the other hand, enjoys hurting people – her expressions when she again hurt Adora in some way are a very good indicator of that – and she knows that her behavior is morally wrong, and she still does it because of her psychological issues and because she needs to hurt Adora so badly.

I also find the way Hordak treats Entrapta far more likeable than the way C*tra treats Adora. Yes, they are enemies at war, but C*tra insults, manipulates, attacks and belittles Adora even in situations where she could do without that, or when she could reach her goals with far lesser abuse. Contrast Hordak who is the only person in the entire cast who both respects Entrapta at every moment and stands up for her. He is a horrible person, but not to her. The one time he lashes out at her is not because he wants to hurt her, but because he is not good at dealing with his emotions and under immense stress, and it is visible that he feels sorry for it.

Now, I do love femslash enemies to lovers, and I indeed even shipped them until mid season three, thinking that there would be a well-executed redemption arc where C*tra admits that what she did was fucked up and apologizes and the fallout of her abuse of Adora and all the others is dealt with in detail, and slowly. I even think that with a well-written redemption arc, her and Adora could work out (even if I don’t prefer it). But season 5 just did not really do that.

This is the second part of why I find Hordak more likeable. His narration parts are short, but the narration always admits that what he did is wrong and his trauma is not an excuse, and that he needs to do better. It is not actually a redemption arc, but him finding his freedom and with that loosing his motivation to be a dictator, so it is not that easy to compare, but it feels nuanced. His victims also do not directly forgive him.

For C*tra, the narrative bends over backwards to justify that what she did was not that bad and that her victims should sympathize for her and that her abusing Adora is romantic and love. Everybody forgive her and her favorite victim smooches her for barely changing at all. She still treats everybody around her badly, and while this could have been read as her change being gradual, the writing is just not good enough for it to feel that way, because there is no visible gradual change, just everybody praising her. Its frustrating, because she was such an interesting character up to season four, and there could have been such a good arc. But the narrative claiming that she is so innocent and perfect but never really showing it just, paradoxically, made me feel distant and even angry.

What also factors in is that there are many C*tra fans – not all of them, but enough to make it suck – who love to harass people like me, often even weaponizing our minority status against us and being biphobic and ableist, and then turning around and claiming we are the bigots for disliking a badly written character, or liking a character they personally dislike. So this also put a negative association to her.

Apritello Express Evidences, part 1

Greetings, Apritello enthusiasts and attention! Here comes a loong post is written by totally nerd. You've been warned. Here we go.

The thing is that Apritello is a double-edged sword. The series shows us established friendship of these two, give us a lot of content with them. We can see development of relationship through interaction between the characters, their reaction about the situations they are put in. We can sense their synergy and bound through the show.

Donnie and April have incredible chemistry, and both options, brotp and otp seems fine to me.

But let me tell you why I ship them.

Apritello is the kind of pairings, which consists of small details, hints, that's hidden, but if you're sharp and attentive one, you will notice that. Apritello has a strong foundation: the best friends trope.

And from the very beginning, it works as planned.

When I start watching show, I could say that April and Donnie are best friends. It is worth noting that April is like an older sister to the other brothers, more of a sisterly figure than a friend, but with Donnie she behaves somewhat differently, namely, as best friend. Obviously, she sets him apart from his brothers, although girl tries to pay attention to all of them equally. And Donnie behaves as well.

Dee's battle shell designs for April needs as well as his. His shell transform into comfy spot for taking ride for April. Special and only for her. Because his bros are not supposed to use it (at least, he carries no one on his back), Donnie carries them by his techno-bó or his limbs.

This tiny detail shows his special treatment to her. April is a very, very special occasion to D. Don does care about her comfort, he accept the way she is. Donatello does not try to prevent her from participating in their affairs because he respects her decisions and is pleased that April can be shoulder to shoulder with him.

D is glad to be at her service.

Yeah, Dee's still playing cool, he has image to perform as tough and coolheaded guy. So Don doesn't show his intentions, interest and feeling to other people (he's tryin', but fails). Because his actions matter. They are always small, hidden, but meaningful.

April, in return, trusts Dee and depends on his tech, even knowing what his inventions are the opposite of success (usually).

Go on. Look at Donnie's facial expressions and body language when April is near.

Donnie seems more relaxed when she's around, happier. His emotional response is always different from his brothers ones.

Oh, and look, he wanted to be first to give her a high three.

They worry about each other. Look at Don. He does worry about her way more than his brothers. Yeah, they all want to protect her, but Donnie is more expressive.

Mayham has no particular sympathy for the brothers: he is afraid of Raph and behaves aggressively, he is indifferent to Leo and Mikey. Mayham immediately takes a liking to April. And then the details come back: he let Donnie touch his neck. The most vulnerable place for any living creation, for a second. Let him to study an important vial without any hesitation. Mayham depends on April trust for Donnie. When everything goes wrong for Don, the little doggie comes to his rescue, just as April would have done. Is the hint transparent enough?

We can see links with "A mystic library", wherе Donnie begins to look for solutions to save April's pet. Yes, this may seem like his next leap, "sit down, I'm smart, and now I'll solve all the problems, watch and learn," but Don says one phrase that opens up the veil of the second plan, what happens behind the scenes. "My illiteral colleagues and I was conducting a mustic research, with a life of the beloved pet, hanging in a bounce".

When April was attacked and hung up, the only one who excitedly called out to her was Donny. Raph is furious that the thieves have escaped, Leo is frustrated that their plan has failed, and Mikey is worried about the salami.

Yeah, we didn't see his worries about her when she fell, because Donnie is on the mission and must be coolheaded turtle, and second, he's calm because now April life is safe and sound, out of the danger.

3. Donnie is the reason why Alberto knows April's name.

No one calles April by her name (except for Donnie, while phone call, but Alberto wasn't nearby) it was "Captain O'Neil" by her chief, her badge seems blank. And yeah, you can say, that's just economy of budget, but I assure you: in the first episode we were shown the name of the delivery guy. The animators were not lazy bones and wrore "Stewart" on his badge. So if something isn't there, then it either shouldn't be there, or it really isn't, that's how this show works.

So, the reason explained in the episode. When Al has short circuit, parts of its new code flashed through its mind.

Info about April was in its memory, in its code. Alberto was a lame animatronic, and it seems somewhat outdated. I do really doubt about Alberto is being something smartass machine with complicated AI like Freddy's Pizza's ones. Quite questionable. Donatello fix Al's brain and wrote code, synchronize with his remote control. He put information about Cap O'Neil into animatronic's head. All this pictures are kind of massage: "You was created for birthday celebrations. You are machine, and there concepts of "life" and "birth". Do great party for this birthday kid and April won't be like this". Or, something like that.

So Alberto did - do a memorable party. And he do what his creator programmed him to do, but in his way.

4. In other words, Alberto was a tool to impress April. Don flaunts himself in front of her, stating how he did the upgrade while doing the upgrade, even though April is fully aware of his tech wizard. And his abilities supposed to help Cap O'Neil to finish the birthday party, so she will stay at her job, not fired. All thanks to Donnie and his upgrade Alberto. (Or not)

By the way, Donnie was the last to leave April in ruined "Alberto's". And it's not an isolated case, it is a pattern.

5. They understand each other without words.

First, Donny came at her at the speed of light. Second, she hadn't even finished speaking before Dee was taking Al apart. Third, their chaotic, well-coordinated work? Donnie was a distraction (although he wanted to just take a break from the battle or let Alberto's guard down, while April just knocked him out). Donnie and April are great team, and sometimes the DonniexApril team is much more precise, coordinated, and interdependent than the DonniexBrothers one.

D&A feel each other and anticipate each other's actions, their skills complement each other, creating an incredible synergy of their interaction. They act as a whole, while it's not always possible with his brothers, even though they're family and know each other the way more Donnie know April. And Dee hasn't trained with cap O'Neil.

Donatello didn't show his crush for April. No puppy, loving eyes, no lovey-dovey speeches, no planning schemes (at least, the audience don't see one) . He just want her attention, but stays cool and hidden. D is already her BFF, but still.

The same thing is claimed in 5B episode - Mascot Melee. Donnie has no problems with interaction with idol of his childhood - Atomic Lass. She'd put Leo in a stupor, but Donnie? He playfully challenges her to a dance duel. Yes, he adores this character, who may have become his measure of the attractiveness of others to Donatello, determined his type. But still, he's playing all cool and confident guy, he's really smooth with girls, so you will never see a puppy loving eyes from him. Only two things can betray him at this point: his voice and his body language. Remember, how's soft his voice became for Atomic Lass? Now I want you to remember the scene before, in turtle tank, when April sent guys a meme.

D is the first to respond to the message, despite the fact that Mikey is sitting closest to the screen. And the responding is a little too emotional for this situation, don't you think?

And this face of his. And he comments it. He likes her sense of humour.

The only difference between April and Atomic Lass is that the first one is a real girl who is a friend of their family, practically a member of it; and the other one is just a fictional character. It is easier to say about love for a fictional character, because it brings less problems for a teenager, especially when he is living with three brothers and a father who likes to tease as well. Donatello needs to be careful and outline the area of emotions he could show, so that he does not get hurt.

Now, dear passangers, we are returning to the previous episode, shall we?

Donnie presents to his brothers his precious Turtle tank, but she's gone, and it's really necessary to find out, who has taken her. And the first person to suspect is April.

Something is odd, don't you think? Yeah, Raphael has taken tyre for their "Midnight special", Leo claimed that Donnie's stuff is common, but they are D's beothers. It's natural for family to borrow(stole) stuff of each other. But this trend was not observed in April. She would never steal anything from Donnie, much less steal anything from him.

Actually, there is a good, logical and solid explanation here. April was number 1 in Donatello' suspect list, because he simply told her about Turtle tank. His brothers didn't know he were working at Moon buggy, except Mikey (Orange helps Dee get the vehicle from Repomantis), but they didn't know what exactly Donnie was working for. They didn't know he build the Turtle tank, he kept it a secret, to surprise his brothers. But April knew.

- Alright you! Where's our turtle tank?

- Hi, DONNIE. You have 9 seconds to say, why are you just broke my door.

- Someone's stole Donnie's turtle tank.

- Haha-ow, I see. As your best friend, you naturally suspect me.

- She gets it!

- Oh-ho, don't give me that! You're the only one could taken it!

The only one, because she knew about it.

As Splints said in this episode - "April is not a snitch"

Donatello does trust April and share with her both, sorrows and joys. But we are not shown this directly. We do not see the action itself, we do not see their calls and conversations on the phone late at night, we only see the consequence. We have no choice and take it as a given.

And the way she cooled him down? Fast, efficient, and Donnie seems to used to it. Moreover, she slapped everyone, but still, she throw Don out of window the last. However, why such a large time delay between him, being slapped and him, was throwing out of the window?

And my favourite scene. It was obvious that Donnie had taken the hardest hit (judging by his scream and the way he was putting his knuckles back in place). Don then claims that their inner circle is secure, Mikey tries to make amends for everyone, and April agrees, blowing them a kiss and closing the window. Cute and mean, isn't it? (You're cute! but mean! why do I always go for your type?! - ep. War and Pizza)

Nota bene: Donnie wouldn't apologize to April. Tough, not caring badass boy image, remember? Even to best friends. It's hard to him to express his feelings by using words, he cannot do it in proper way. But he has Mikey, who is so alike inner him. Michelangelo apologizes not only for himself, but for D mostly, because D starts suspected April.

• Donnie put "Donnie's blocker" at April's phone to protect her.

It's common thing that your friend install some programs or apps on your device. But you will always ask your friend to do such a favour, and you will always know about what, when and where were installed on your phone.

And April didn't know Donnie had done something with her phone. It was a real surprise for her, to see blocker with "Donnie says no-no-no".

And you know, the interface of his app. The way he tell this current phrase. Donnie could put a huge banner "THE APP YOU WANT DOWNLOAD TO IS A REAL PIECE OF GARBAGE", as usual antiviruses do. But no, voice interface. It makes the app more personal and thoughtful. Because when Don made gifts for his brother, the program was voiced by a computer-generated female voice. Yes, the tank's interface is voiced by Donatello himself, but his voice sounds more like Google than the real Don. And, we talking about HIS BABEY, for a second. Bit still, the point remains.

Dale is nerdy boy in purple, wow, how convenient for making a parallel with certain purple turtle.

But thing is, April doesn't like Dale. He's clingy, remora guy, who has a little obsession with April, even he's not harmful, still, such behaviour freaks girls (and not them only) out. Her classmate is usually tell her what April O'Neil is "his favourite person" and he loves her. There is little that is attractive about this behavior.

So, there is nothing new and unpredictable here that Dale was rejected. Because April didn't, doesn't and won't like him because of his lame personality and strange behaviour. Our girl in yellow do right thing: she clearly sets personal boundaries and does not allow any dubious personalities to invade them. So that's the reason she refuses to go on a date with him at the end. He's weird, obsessed, and she doesn't like him.

Donatello, as far as I concerned from different versions of TMNT, was always a little obsessive with some things. And, you know, putting a blocker inside your best friend's phone seems a little weird, because it's, in simple words, violation of privacy and personal space. And there are people who may regard this as stalking or sorta.

Yeah, for the most part, he gets away with it, not only because April's focus is in a different area, but also because their bond is stronger than April's with anyone else at school.

She has known him for years. Donnie is her best friend. I can't say that it's fine to her when Dee violates her personal space - her phone, but April can accept Donatello's personality in general.

And he does really have good intentions. Donnie installed this blocker, developed by himself only for one reason: to protect personal space April from fishy apps from nowhere, from being hacked and etc. Don knew her too well, how much she depends on stupid apps that will distract her. He also knew well, that he can't be with her 24/7 to fix problems with April's phone, so Dee put a part of himself to prevent any harm in the future.

And again, "Donnie's gifts"'s vibes. Donatello genuinely cared about April, because he wrote, coded, developed, designed, and dubbed it, turned on the database, and installed it all on April's phone. 'cause, you know, writing programs in general is a bit of a hassle, but writing an antivirus is much more difficult, because viruses are changing, and questionable applications are finding ways to bypass. Do you feel how much effort Dee put in for her?

But Donatello didn't mean to fix April, as he tried to do with his brothers. Purple turtle accepts this girl the way she is, and tries his best to play smoothly with April, by adjusting, not being passive aggressive jerk. It's his outstanding way to show his caring nature, soft side.

Remember, small but meaningful actions.

Maybe, Donnie also can foresee that April may be forced to download some suspicious program, but still, it work: he managed to prevent April being hypnotized, even if couldn't be physically with April at the this moment - Dee was working for Repo Mantis, building dog's paradise for Todd. That's why, by the way, Leo and Raph were dragged into this whole situation. Mayham would teleported literally anyone to help his hostess. Donnie just wasn't at the Lair at the moment.

Tell me more about how Stuckies are wrong in the What if and why Steve and Bucky aren't romantic, please, I need some sense on my dash.

For starters: assume any analysis I conduct will take CA: TFA into account.

Okay, so I rewatched "What If..." and Steve and Bucky's relationship is one of best friends with brotherly elements. Yet, they aren't as close or as inseparable as believed.

This isn't to say they didn't care about each other or weren't close at all. However, when you look at their interactions pre serum Steve and compare it to post serum Steve, it's remarkably different.

Bucky acts like a big brother of sorts to Steve who is looking out for a little brother who is always getting into shit. Stuckies like to frame it as if they have this incredibly close relationship since the beginning, but it's not in the way that they like to frame it. These two weren't inseparable or it was just them, and then everyone else. And this is important to note because of how Stuckies talk about Steve and Bucky's relationship as well as how they talk about Peggy and her relationship relationship with Steve.

Steve and Bucky became close due to war, which tends to bond many people who are in the same unit together. Although Bucky cared for Steve he didn't necessarily respect him. As a friend, but not as a man. (Peggy respected him as a person)

It took Steve taking the super serum and saving Bucky for Bucky to respect Steve as a man and his convictions. It took him being saved to recognize that this was what Steve stood for when he was Skinny!Steve, which is why he was proud of him. But he didn't appreciate these values and convictions until his ass was on the line.

When Bucky is on the date (with the girlS bc he probably went home with both or hooked up with both. lol) he checks in on Steve, but he's focused on his date. Steve is, for all intents and purposes, a fourth wheel. When Bucky realizes that Steve has wandered off, he finds him and tries to talk sense into him, but again, as a big brother type/good friend.

Hell, even Steve is indifferent to Bucky's behavior because this is his friend and someone he cares about, but his world didn't revolve around Bucky nor was there any indication that his feelings went deeper than that (knowingly or otherwise).

However, Steve was concerned about Bucky because Bucky was his best friend and family. Steve literally had no one else outside of Bucky. Both of his parents were dead and he literally had no other family. He not only grew up with Bucky, he stayed with him for a bit as well.

This isn't to say that romantic feelings couldn't have ever developed, however, Steve was concerned about a friend/brother not the fact that he could be losing someone he had feelings for.

Steve cared about keeping his remaining family (and teether to the past) alive when he's saving Bucky. Again, some may see this as romantic and maybe Steve and Bucky don't realize their queer identities at the same. However consider this, as true as this might be, society overemphasizes romantic love as being the most important and significant (even when it comes to grieving). We trivialize and diminish platonic love and grief. We say that it can't be as powerful or as devastating as romantic love.

The only reason Steve would want to save Bucky was if he was in love with him and not because that was his best friend/brother. Never mind the fact that Steve wagered half of the universe to save Vision (and failed), that he refused to kill Tony despite Tony trying to kill Bucky, that Steve literally risked his life to save every Sokovian citizen on the rock than let one die. That Steve went on the run for his beliefs even before Civil War.

People position it as if Steve and Bucky can't function without each other when we literally see Steve function just fine without Bucky. He just refuses to let someone he care about die or others get harmed in the process while trying to take on Bucky. Steve even willingly took Bucky in to be arrested with no issue whatsoever. Bucky and Steve lived separate lives while either was on the run or in hiding.

"Will you ever get to What if???"

I said in another post that even if Peggy and Steve shared similar scenes as Steve and Bucky, the beat is different because the context is different.

Bucky started respected Steve as a man because of the serum, which made him appreciate Skinny Steve. Steve already respected Peggy as a person pre serum and said her outside finally matched her inside (as in others were now seeing what he's already seen).

When Bucky is encouraging others to cheer for Steve, it's a way of him finally giving Steve validation for his conviction to fight in the war. When Steve is encouraging others to cheer for Peggy, it's him wanting others to see what he's always see in her and also to have people respect Peggy. Steve was genuinely proud of her.

People mention the bar scene, but I believe these are totally two different things. 1. Steve and Bucky don't have a monopoly on bar conversations. 2. It's normal for people who are in the army and fighting wars to go drink. 3. Steve and Bucky's conversation is a very different context and feel. Again, Bucky is validating who Steve was before the serum and assuaging his fears--being a good friend.

Peggy and Steve are just grabbing drinks and he listens to her talk about how people treat her due to being Captain Carter now. Steve is happy for her, but feels down about himself. They both show admiration for each other before almost kissing.

How are these scenes the "same" thing? Or that Bucky and Steve's scene now has a romantic subtext because Steve and Peggy's does? The context between both are different. As mentioned before, Steve and Peggy were already established as to having feelings for one another.

Peggy literally trains alongside Steve while he's is in physical therapy and regularly did so before Howard made her the suit and shield.

Let's talk about CA: TFA and how Bucky was trying to flirt with Peggy as she and Steve eye fucked. And then he said, "I now feel invisible like you." Yes, please tell me more about how this is a reflection of Bucky's feelings for Steve and not his dismay of not being the center of female attention.

Every scene, repurposed Steve and Bucky scenes or not, are tinged with romantic subtext between Steve and Peggy. These two are sooooo into each and they could barely contain themselves. They're so supportive of one another and genuinely believe in each other. And the live action or the animated versions of thee characters felt that way before the serum.

Although I do believe that Bucky would've had more of a reaction when Steve was "blown up", other than that, his interactions with Steve was on brand. That's his friend and he's proud of him, but Bucky wasn't on Steve's ass. He's his own person who exists outside of Steve. Bucky actually behaved like he did before he was shipped off to war--just doing him.

Although Bucky respected Steve more in the Hydra Stomper suit, it wasn't the same as when Steve got the serum. His buddy had a nice gadget, but he was still Skinny Steve--he just now had a way to be on the battlefield despite his medical concerns.
