Spoilers for ep. 8 and cw warning for csa mention🚨
Random thought III. I’m definitely not the first one to be saying this or anything, but w/ David’s episode dropping last night i am once again obsessing over how tlou presents love through side character vignettes.
So far we’ve had:
Love in the form of a father doing everything he can to protect his daughter on zombie outbreak day.
Love in the form of an old gay couple finding peace in the mists of the apocalypse.
Love in the form of an older brother willing to kill a whole revolution to get medicine for his younger brother.
Love in the form of a sister willing to destroy herself and everything she’s built in pursuit of avenging her brother.
Love in the form of community.
Love in the form of two estranged brothers.
Love in the form of young crushes and puppylove
Then ep. 8 comes along and here's a guy whose whole stick is abt twisting love into something awful and vial to fuel the flames of his sadism. And Ellie — not Joel — is the one to face this head-on. Mind you, right off the heels of her flashback episode where the audience sees her at her most innocent and carefree.
So Ellie confronts it. She has to. Because she loves Joel, it’s love in the form of a not-daughter doing all she can to protect her not-dad.
This is the first time she’s been directly exposed to this kind of senseless violence and brutality. David wants her because he can have her, because he knows that he’s physically stronger than her and a hell of a lot crueler. Ellie was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
It’s “love” that he’s twisted into something so hideous and so unrecognizable and so terrifying and cruel — everything that love shouldn’t be.
And Ellie's loss of innocence at the hands of this "love" is enforced by Bella Ramsey's incredible acting (give them an Emmy for ffs). Even with David dead, she doesn't stop bashing his head in, she can't.
Cause I mean, yeah. It's the desperate, terrified actions of a little girl who's already been conflated violence with justice and safety being pushed to her absolute limits.
obv. she's totally in the right here. fuck david all my homies hate david. but, at the same time, it's showing what she's capable of when being pushed to that extreme. all that fear and anger and sadness and rage that's been festering in her since riley (and probably for much longer) absolutely has the potential to become destructive. it's a rlly good set up for season 2 me thinks.

what'd you think of ep 8 of the last of us. personally im dead on the floor sobbing (it's been three days and yet.)
fucking incredible!!!!!!!! I’ve seen a lot of praise for pedro in tlou (which is completely warranted because that man is a phenomenal actor and I’m SO glad he’s getting the attention and appreciation that he deserves) but jesus h christ. bella ramsey. they’d already shown how amazing an actor they are but this episode was fucking amazing. I could honestly gush about every tiny detail from them but I’d be here for hours and hours but GOD I hope they get every award possible for playing ellie because they fucking deserve it!!
one of the stand out moments for me was how they went from playing an Ellie full of rage and fear and adrenaline fucking pummelling that asshole into the ground he lay on, literal blood sweat and tears on screen, and the next minute ellie is just a child. she’s scared and alone and you can see that the second she realises joel is with her now, her entire demeanour changes and she’s a fucking kid again, holding on to her dad, trying to explain what had happened but nothing but incoherent mumbles comes out, and the way she collapses into him and sobs into his neck was just so. a complete 180 from seconds before. a completely different person. I’m in awe of bella
PLEAASSEE let me know your thoughts too!! I’m dying to hear them. I’m joining you in the sobbing pile because “I’ve got you babygirl” BROKE me

Late watching, but Thoughts about TLOU ep 6 below:
Still not over Henry and Sam, and I don’t think I ever will be, honestly
The parallels to the beginning of the winter chapter are insane
OBSESSED OBSESSED OBSESSED WITH THE OPENING SCENE
“We get those in the summer” please I love them
The subtle bleed into the original score this show is so incredible
He’s panicking because he’s starting to feel about Ellie the way he felt about Sarah. Ugh.
Great moment of him repairing his boots with duct tape, not something we have to think about
The way he just always gives into her is so great
“Yep. Still gross.” a reminder that Left Behind is coming and I am not prepared
A sheep ranch in an old farmhouse? Part 2 is coming. Again, I am not prepared.
HER SPACE THING!!! ELLIE IS GOING TO SPACE ONE DAY!!!
You can see Joel breaking. He knows how he feels about her and you can see he desperately doesn’t want to because he doesn’t want to go through this again.
Bella is SO Ellie and Pedro is SO Joel
The whistling scene…word for word. Crying again.
“Dam.” I would die for her no questions asked
The dog sensing infected is SUCH a cool feature, but what the fuck that was the most intense moment ever
Jackson looks perfect
The Tommy and Joel reunion there are tears in my eyes
You can see Tommy get a glimpse of the past with the way Joel and Ellie interact
DINA????????? WAS THAT MY GIRL???? WAS THAT MY BELOVED DINA??????
Maria give me one chance please I beg you
Insane how this show can be laugh out loud funny and make you burst into tears immediately after
Tommy’s realization that he is, in fact, a communist
SHIMMER!!!! BABY SHIMMER!!!!!!
Him lying about Tess and Ellie….hm.
MARIA’S PREGNANT??????
It’s not like I didn’t know Joel had seriously complex trauma, of course I did, but the way they’re bringing it to life, with his panic attacks and thinking he’s seeing Sarah…how are they continuing to bring dimension to an already very complex character?
And that scene to be coupled with the music from the end of Fall. Yeah.
ELLIE’S COAT
I am so glad they’re adding more to Maria’s backstory. Of course it’s tragic, it wouldn’t be Neil without tragedy lmao
This scene between Tommy and Joel. Give Pedro his fucking Emmy.
Idk man, I never thought I could ever love Joel Miller more than I did when I met him ten years ago. And I do, somehow I do. Somehow I love him more each week.
“I have to leave her.” Just fucking kill me.
The scene between them at the ranch is my favorite in the first game. I am so glad they kept it almost word for word.
The flashbacks of Sarah are the most devastating things I’ve ever seen
“I still think you deserve a choice” and her immediately choosing Joel. I am in shambles
“You gonna shoot this thing or get it pregnant?” BYE
They kept so much of the dialogue from the University section, which has always been my favorite
JOEL CHOKING SOMEONE OUT LIKE IN THE GAME
Oh wow the bat end is even worse than the rebar
“I can’t fuckin do this without you” and the little break on “Joel”. Ok. Cool.
I personally am not ready to meet the scariest character in the game, and I’m even less ready for Left Behind
What a fucking show. It just gets better every week.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT
SPOILERS
If Bella and Pedro and everyone who is making this show aren’t showered with awards I will personally march. They nail it EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME
and the David ep was so much more emotional so much more horrifying and it delivered on every level. This will be a rambling flailing mess but just I loved how Ellie was taking care of Joel and softly telling him she’d be back and leaving him the knife and fucking protecting him when it must be killing him that he can’t do that for her (until later of course) Troy Baker was delicious as James and kind of hilarious that Bella our Ellie killed game Joel lol but god GOD I’m kinda overwhelmed right now I have never heard a scream like Ellie’s the fear and anger and pain she expelled on that freak who tired to abuse her (sidenote the actor who played David was incredible he at the snap of a finger could turn into a monster from that soft spoken man whose rage and disgust was boiling under the surface just chilling)
Joel JOEL fucked up those men and found that strength because Ellie needed him and when David said all that shit to Ellie about her having a violent heart thinking he knew her because he saw her fight, saw her as a leader, he knows NOTHING he doesn’t see her humour or her warmth, her wonder or her hope. Joel sees it but all David saw was prey. It was incredibly harrowing episode but I was prepared but not for that scream nor for the way she struggled against Joel when she was overcome with fear and not wanting to be touched as the last man who did that burned her but the change the gentleness when Joel held her face CALLED HER BABYGIRL the love they have for each other is everything and they would go to the ends of the earth themselves to protect each other. Again nothing I ramble about will do justice to how this made me feel but Joel and Ellie since the game have been incredibly special to me and the show is just deepening that by expanding on the emotion and depth and making everything even more painful and beautiful. Like holy shit guys HOLY SHIT what did we do to deserve this show. Sidenote again I love how Joel killed that first guy exactly like its done in the game like a sneak attack lol. OH AND DONT EVEN TOUCH ME ABOUT WHEN JOEL LEANT HIS HEAD AGAINST ELLIES FUCK I AM ANNHIALTED AND THE BABYGIRL MADE MY SOUL ASCEND IM SHAKING AND GONNA BAWL ABOUT IT LATER BECAUSE IT’LL HIT ME JUST HOW FAR THESE TWO HAVE COME.

How do you feel about the new ep?
I thought it was decent! I told someone I’d give it a 9/10, but I’m wondering how
Bella did incredible, Scott did so great, Troy did great, Pedro did great, everybody did great.
The pacing felt a little rushed to me, but like I’ve mentioned before, there’s a lot to pack into this section. In game, she runs through the town before ending up in the restaurant. But that would be…a lot to fit into an episode, so they changed it to restaurant immediately. Now, i think it does fit the scenario. He JUST tried to cut her up and they had those few minutes of talking to each other, so that fear and adrenaline and what the fuck thinking is real fresh in her head right now, as opposed to her running around the town and, not that those feelings would’ve dimmed down, but she’s on incredible high alert knowing that she’s stuck in here with him and has to fight her way out now, ynow. Does that make sense? 😭
I thought the very small additions to joel and ellies scenes in the early episode were great and I will definitely be digging into them as well. Like her trying to give him food and water ynow. But I really liked those
Being religious myself, seeing David be the absolute opposite of a man of God and still claim that he is one always makes me laugh 😭 you’re EATING people and about to rape a fourteen year old girl and you have this HUGE god complex and blah blah blah. But they made him way creepier and conniving and scott did amazing with the, what, like 45 minutes of time he had? Great performance by him
Overall I think it’s just a bit of pacing that has me sort of ehhhh on my end? A second watch might change my mind, who knows. Also, their game embrace holds such a special place in my heart, and while I LOVE this one, I’m just. fighting a battle in my head over them which I know is dumb, but it’s happening. But with the change of it being outside (works better realistically due to fire and smoke and all that good stuff) and just…I don’t know
Overall, enjoyed it :) had my shirt pulled over my face multiple times for multiple different emotions. Definitely a roller coaster

I'm sorry for spamming the tag. I think I'll just put a few eps together going forward to make the tag less cluttered.
Episode 15:
-Now I want steak, thanks Steve lol.
-The impulse control on these gents. Aww, Steve. No, he's not your dad, he's your fucking friend and he cares about you, Nate >:( Steve deserves better. Oh man, that's some d&d pc behavior. That poor window did nothing wrong lol
Steve's Theme is pretty great.
Episode 16:
-Why is Jim's wedding photo in a kitchen drawer? That's very weird. Nate, you are certainly as arrogant as a Gryffindor. Why was there a woman's scream???
Episode 17:
-Steeeeeve, yes, Powerline is fantastic. Excellent taste in fictional bands. Good man lol. Fear reaction being singing is so valid. Steve's hate of Jim is incredibly weird and interesting. This man is having a Time.
Episode 18:
-If Steve is right about Jim, I'm gonna laugh so hard. A stack of lawn chairs is not weird, Nate. The door, on the other hand. Okay, the wall of clippings of missing and murdered people is definitely weird. It feels kinda like a wall of trophies tbh. Also, props for the soundscaping. Oh boi, a journal full of weird symbols? That's definitely a Leitner. Okay, full length mirror is- Uh, what was that? Ah, the entity who tried to kill Steve. Well then!
Episode 19:
-I really don't like mirror horror lol. The entity has Doppelganger/Stranger vibes. A knocking? The mirror maybe? Oh, a hidden hallway. . . The way the buildings change around them is really unsettling. Yeah, just enter the random hallway and doorway. Nothing can go wrong by doing that. I just want know what is helping the gents and why.
Episode 20:
-Yeah, um, this isn't good. The sound engineering is fantastic though! Hmmmm
Episode 21:
-So, did Steve just get thrown out the attic to the ground? Ah, fuck. Time loss again. Shit. Not a mention of Steve, huh Nate? And Jess has been wiped out of existence. More knocking. I wonder what's causing that. The entity is really trying to isolate Nate, that's fun. He really can't hear the knocking, that's interesting. And has no memory of Steve. Man. Man man man. That's weird, starts off as the first letter and then leads into a Lonely statement. Or a Lonely/Stranger combo. Which, valid. And that was probably Steve :(
Episode 22:
-That is so cruel, the situational irony. Good gracious. Nate! How dare you insult my childhood horror! Goosebumps and Courage are amazing! Just cuz you don't get it lol. It's weird that all these letters are from women. Every single one we've heard. Hmmm. Paul is a name that's been repeated for brothers twice at least. Which wouldn't be weird in real life, but given that it's a horror podcast... Bella is such a good dog. Oh shit, was that Paul? Nate's brother?
Episode 23:
-Sleep paralysis? Sleep paralysis. I wonder if whatever the entity is is what's controlling the weather too. Nate and Bella haven't been able to get far from the house. It's like the weather has a mind to keep Nate there. And finally, a knocking Nate hears. And the faceless being directed him to his phone. Interesting, interesting.
Episode 24:
-Give his memory baaaaaack. Correct, gender is unimportant to the gaining your memory back. Stop rambling, Nate, look at the phone. Oh thank goodness, there's some of the old stuff still on his phone. Good, good, good. Can not believe Nate has less agency than Jon Si- Puppy noises!!!! I'm sorry, *what* woods? Prentiss? Okay, that's pretty great. What a coincidence there lol. STEVE! NOOOO NATE! UGH! I'm dead on the floor. I miss Steve. Oh thank goodness you're gullible, Nate. Thank you for accepting the photo from our gent. Holy crow lol.
Episode 25:
-Alright, last one for now. Let's go. You have bad takes, Nate roflmao. Gamers rule. Nvm to the only lady letters apparently lol. There we go. He caught a lead. Finally. Hopefully he'll be able to make progress again. I feel like he was close to figuring something out before his memory got stolen again.

i watched tlou hbo ep. 2. giving it a 1.5/5. detailed list of compliants (and 2 things i liked!) below
I was hoping they wouldn't focus on the virus, but I guess they are. Disappointing but not surprising. I think the mechanics of a zombie story are the least interesting part UNLESS you've designed the story from the very beginning to center on the virus, which TLOU is absolutely not, so.
They're really insisting on the impossibility of a vaccine. I'm not sure where they're going with this. What would be cool is if they flipped halfway through or gradually evolved the prequels to show just how much of a miracle it is that Ellie is immune. Otherwise, if there's really no chance at a vaccine, that really kind of deflates the final choice.
"I think what really impressed them was that I didn't turn into a fucking monster," - awkward ass line awkward ass delivery
"You need to stop talking about this kid like she's got some kind of a life ahead of her," - Decent line, a little on the nose.
"Joel and I aren't good people" how about you show us that in any way shape or form instead of having Tess just tell us over and over again that her an d Joel are BAD and SCARY. All they've done so far is smuggle food and meds, get beat up, spoon in bed and try to find Joel's brother
"She told me not to tell anybody and now I'm telling the first people that I-" is an incredibly awkward line of dialogue that should not exist, so I can't even blame Bella for how bad the delivery was.
"Fuck you, man, I didn't ask for this," - compared to how game!Ellie delivers it I simply cannot accept show!Ellie's delivery.
Also, the placement of "fuck you, man, I didn't ask for this," doesn't make sense in retaliation to Joel saying that no cure has ever been found. In the game this is how the exchange goes down:
Tumblr media
Ellie's saying "fuck you," because Joel is interrupting her story with sarcastic comments ("Yeah, we've heard that before, / Oh I'm sure she did.) In the show he's just sternly saying that he doesn't believe there's a cure. LET JOEL BE A DICK!
I wish there had been a pause in-between "Okay, Jesus, fine," and "I'll have to throw a fuckin' sandwich at 'em," with the last part maybe mumbled as an afterthought. It would've made the line come off as more natural.
Ellie's "concierge" moment is funny but doesn't make sense in terms of PLACEMENT AGAIN. At this point she has not bonded with either of them. In the game she makes the concierge joke MUCH later when she and Joel are somewhat bonded and not actively trying to get to a nearby location. Make it make sense!!! What is this bastardization!
I don't even hate most of Ellie's lines this episode but her delivery is just not doing it for me. Bella Ramsay's Ellie can be funny but it's not ELLIE. She has some funny moments but it's a different character it's not ELLIE sorry.
Tess knowing Joel raised a gun without even seeing him was a pretty good moment.
Already too much of a "family trip" vibe for me, with Tess and Joel and Ellie. In the original, Joel and Tess are making plans and leading the way and Ellie is just sort of quietly in back. That was for a reason.
Clicker fight scene was SO DARK I could not see Anything At All.
Ellie pointing the flashlight and Joel shooting was a cute moment but NOT THIS EARLY!! NOT THIS EARLY!! SAVE IT FOR WHEN THEY'VE ACTUALLY BONDED THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BOND YET!!!!
Why are they so CLEAN!!
I did like that they swapped out a plank bridge for a bridge made of a ladder with planks layered on top.
"Save who you can save" felt forced as a line
WHY is Ellie fighting Joel on leaving.
Tess's death was um. That was one way to handle it!

You played TLOU right? Thoughts on the latest ep?
I did play it! In short, it was incredible. I feel this was the best episode so far and the climax was intense and powerful. It really felt just like that chapter of the game, and I loved every second. My dad watches the show with me and he was on the edge of his seat the whole time.
Gonna keep this spoiler free:
Bella killed it. Honestly her performance in this episode alone is Emmy worthy. She put her all into this, especially the last 10 minutes, and knocked it out of the ball park. I especially loved her subtle acting in this one moment with Joel where she changes her body language just enough to go from looking like a tough teenager to this vulnerable little girl. Completely blew my mind.
Pedro was great as always. There's a moment where Joel needs to be hard, cold, and terrifying and Pedro pulled it off so well. I mean even my dad was like "Holy Shit".
Aside from our usual two, I need to point out two other actors that just took my breath away. Scott Shepard plays David in this week's episode. For those of us who played the game, we knew what to expect with his character. And Scott did not disappoint. I'd go more into how well he portrayed every aspect of David, but I'm keeping this spoiler free.
MORE IMPORTANTLY MY BAE TROY BAKER!
As a fan of the game, and as someone who always wanted to do voiceover work, I've been a big fan of Troy for years. And when I saw Troy in the trailer last week I was so excited because the original Joel Miller was going to be in the show. And he did not disappoint!
I've met Troy a couple of times in the past and he is genuinely so kind and so humble and so damn funny. So seeing him play and pull off this villainous character was a real treat. He poured so much emotion and energy into his role and I enjoyed every second of it.

Ep. 3 | The Marauders: Riddle Records
A/N: “Come to the dark side. We have a solo career.” - Tom Riddle Jr., probably. On a lighter note, I can just see them backstage like this by the lovely artist @theimpossiblefifth. Read on AO3 :) Enjoy! - J xx
Tumblr media
One look in your eyes
I can read your mind
 You're naughty, my type
Care for a good time?
You could be just like all your high society friends at high tea
You could get with a football player
But there’s nothing like a shot of adrenaline in the morning
You know you want a dragon slayer
“Like me,” James mouthed seductively to the camera and winked.
“I’m Alice Fortescue, these wonderful lads are The Marauders, thank you for joining us this Saturday Night Live!” the actress grinned widely as the camera backed away.
The boys all gathered around her in a group hug.
“Holy shit! That was incredible!” Obviously, this was Sirius speaking.
“You were wonderful, honey,” a low voice whispered.
A smiling man with sweet eyes and a mop of dark hair put his arms around Alice.
“Oh, everyone, this is my boyfriend, Frank!” the bubbly actress grinned widely, “He’s a photographer for GQ.”
“Sick!” James shook his hand.
“Nice to meet you, Frank; lovely working with you, Alice; hope you’ll both come to one of our shows sometime, ta-ta!” Sirius practically dragged the band away before anyone could say anything more.
“What was that?” Remus tutted at his boyfriend.
“Yeah, ta-ta?” the bespectacled boy wiggled his nose to adjust his glasses that had gone askew, “Who says that?”
“Not what I meant,” the pale, mousy-haired boy shrugged off his suit jacket in their shared dressing room.
“Look, I’ll explain later!” Sirius pleaded, “Just hurry up and let’s get the hell -”
“Yoo-hoo! Siri!” a warbling, high-pitched voice giggled on the other side of the door, “This is their room here, Tommy...”
“Christ,” the dark-haired boy covered his face with his hands.
“We’ll deal with Bella,” James set his jaw and turned to the other two, “Ready?”
Remus and Peter rolled up their dress shirt sleeves and nodded.
The trio filed out of the dressing room, forcing Bella Black and her friend backward, and immediately shut the door behind them.
“He doesn’t want to see you or any of your family again, Bella,” said James sternly, giving the show's new cameraman the stink-eye for good measure.
Bella stuck her tongue out childishly.
Her guest grimaced and offered his hand to the boys, “I’m sorry about her. She overheard I was interested in speaking with you young talents and… well, it got a bit out of hand. I’m Tom Riddle, of Riddle Records.”
Really, the man with chiseled features and dark slicked back hair wasn’t much older than they were. But he was dressed more expensively than they could ever be comfortable with, even with the fresh success of their debut album.
“You’re Senior’s kid,” James nodded, his mother being an agent in the industry. He noted just the smallest flinch at the mention of the man's father. “With all due respect, we already have a label.”
“A label that has you locked into a contract as a group,” Tom gave them each his card and presented James with another one for Sirius, “We would pay any fees associated with breaking your current contract, then we would launch your solo careers - James as the pop prince, Sirius as the rock and roll bad boy, Remus as the R&B god, and Peter as the jazz legend!”
“We’re better musicians together,” said Remus.
Tom leaned in, “Your success now, quadrupled. Plus the potential for high-engagement collaborations among you. The freedom to create in your own style on top of that. Imagine it. And give me a call.”
"Ta-ta," Bella blew them each a kiss in a way that could only be described as menacing. When they were out of the boys' earshot she simpered, "You're such a clever businessman, Tommy."
"Don't call me that," he yanked his arm away and pressed his phone to his ear irritably, "I found us some new business and laid the groundwork. Can I have my allowance now?"
The Marauders flew back to Scotland that night and rehearsed for months until they were ready to drop before flying back to LA for Night One.
“Nervous?” Sirius whispered while they waited for their opening act, DJ Dedalus Diggle, to finish his set.
“Why would you ask me that?” James huffed, adjusting his bright red tie for the umpteenth time.
“You need more glitter,” Molly patted his cheekbones lightly with her pointer finger, which was covered in the golden stuff.
“Five minutes, boys!”
“Thanks, Arthur!” Remus spoke for them all.
“We’ve got this, Jimbo!” Peter bounced excitedly on his heels.
“Easy for you to say. You’ve been performing at recitals since you were big enough to reach the keys from the bench.”
“The jitters never get old,” his baby-faced friend told him, “but we’re all going out there. And with everything we do together, we always have fun.”
James nodded to himself and made sure to check on their drummer for the tour, “You good, Kingsley?”
The man in a rose-red disco suit twirled the sticks deftly in his hands, “Let’s do this.”
“... and now, Los Angeles,” Diggle hyped the crowd, “give it up… for The Marauders!”
The lights went up and the boys looked out at the incredibly emotional fans who’d come to see them.
“Right,” James whispered, reaching for the microphone with shaking hands, “A-one, two, three.”
I don’t have a lot of time
I’m running for my dear life
Can’t breathe without you by
Aye aye aye
It’s a full house
But I’ll seek you out
It’s a wild crowd
But I’ll seek you out
I don’t know how
But I’ll seek you out
James couldn’t help grinning ear to ear as Sirius broke out into his guitar solo.
Remus pointed out a sign that said, “Marry me, James Potter!”
The lead singer laughed and spoke into his mic, “Well, will you buy me dinner first, at least?”
The girl promptly fainted.
Arthur was by her side immediately to make sure she was alright.
“Oh, dear, you’ve hit your head,” Molly crouched down beside him and handed the young girl an ice pack.
The red-headed manager got his first good look at the videographer and her multi-pocketed fishing vest and cargo pants.
She noticed him staring, “I’ve known these boys a long time. You never know what you’re going to need.”
“Good advice,” he helped her and the fan back up in one go, “I’m Arthur.”
“Molly,” she grinned, hoisting her camera back onto her capable shoulders and focused back in on James.
Under your spell, I like how you play it
Keeping it cool is so overrated
Waiting on you, every breath bated
Hey hey hey
They played LA two more nights before moving on to San Francisco. Then Vegas, then Seattle, and across the rest of the continent, all the way to New York.
“Madison Square Garden,” James swallowed, taking in the iconic jumbotron above their heads and the entire stadium, really.
Just three hours later, he was up on that very stage, sweat trickling down his back and the bridge of his nose as he sang his heart out about a funny story the designer, Lily Evans once related about her sister via Instagram post.
There’s a little house on Privet Drive
Where nothing ever happens
Little curtain twitcher of a wife
And a little boy and husband
But when they leave for their nine to five
And the little boy goes to school
The little old lady with cats ninety-nine
Does what she wills to do
Living next to ordinary no. 4
So much to do, so much to explore
The grocer down the street from me
His daughter left for university
And he needs the comfort of my tabbies
Yessiree, that’s what I’m here for
Your neighbour next to ordinary no. 4
After that, they went all over South America. The streets were typically too narrow to drive a tour bus around, so they often jetted from one country to another and rented a little convoy of minivans to take them to the arenas from their hotels and back.
“Shit, Petey’s got food poisoning!” Remus fussed over the poor boy.
“I’m fine! Really!” the blond insisted before doubling over and retching once more.
“I can fill in,” DJ Diggle adjusted his signature flat cap, “I have all your songs pre-recorded -”
“We have half an hour to get it out of his system!” Sirius declared determinedly, “We’re not going on without you, Pete!”
“I’ve got the doctor!” Arthur came in, followed closely by a middle-aged woman with apple cheeks and curly hair.
“You need to replace your fluids,” Molly handed Peter a bottle of electrolytes.
“Yeah, it’s a common bacterial infection going around among tourists,” said the doctor, giving him a dose of antibiotics, “He’s not in any shape to perform, you lot, so you might as well let him rest.”
“I can - oh,” Peter ran to the bathroom.
“How soon can you give him another dose of that?” Sirius asked anxiously.
“Not any time in the next half hour,” she narrowed her eyes at him, apparently having overheard his earlier proclamation.
“Poppy’s right,” said Arthur, “Peter’s health comes first. Dedalus, isolate the keyboards in every track and queue the set list.”
“Try to keep in time,” Sirius added.
“No improvising for tonight, lads,” Arthur warned the regular band members.
“But -”
“I’m serious.”
“And so am I!” he could only maintain a straight face for two and a half seconds after he said this.
James sighed as they waited for the DJ to introduce them half an hour later, “It’s not going to be the same without Peter.”
“We’ll make the best of it, Jimbo,” Remus assured him, “and he’ll be back with us for the next one.”
The frontman set his jaw, pushed his glasses up his face and pulled the microphone to his lips.
Do you remember
The games we used to play
Mermaids underwater
Aliens in outer space
Do you remember
The sticks we’d raise aloft
We called them swords and never
Lost the battles that we fought
Peter was back on stage the next night, to much celebration and all too soon, they flew back across the pond for their European leg. Of course, their first stop was Scotland.
“It’s so good to be home,” James sighed happily, pausing to wipe his glasses on the hem of his shirt and winking at a girl who lost it at the sight of his abdomen, “This is our last song. Please join in if you know the words. Or make them up. Just have a good time. Be as loud as you want to. We love you all, thank you for everything you’ve done for us. We’re the luckiest boys in the world.”
Is there a risk to it?
Is it a challenge?
If there isn’t, if it isn’t, I don’t want it
Yeah, I wanna do some damage
I feel lucky tonight
I got you by my side
Seven days in a week
And you spend them with me
So hell yeah, I feel lucky
"That sounds really good, Pete," said James from where he lay on the floor of their stage after the arena emptied, "We could use that."
Peter chuckled, "It's Chopin. A waltz."
James ambles over and his friend makes room for him on the bench.
"It's a split C chord, then F, A flat..." he guides him through the song. It's out of time and messy, but they're having fun. "James…"
"Yeah, Pete?"
"What are we going to do about Tom Riddle's offer? I mean, his dad’s label practically owns half the music industry. And Castle is just this little independent… He could make our lives more difficult than he already has."
"Unless we join him, you're thinking?"
"We could ask Arthur to negotiate a group contract just the same. I doubt they'll dislike the idea of paying less upfront."
"But what about loyalty to everyone at Castle? McGonagall? Urquart?" James shook his head, "We're having a successful tour in spite of the ticket bots Riddle set on us. We're looking out into seas of fans all wearing our merch in spite of his shipment hijacking. And we're having bloody good time because we're not letting any of the homophobic slander he's fueled the press with get to us."
"Here, here!" cheered Sirius, clinking his beer bottle with his boyfriend's.
"Right, rest up, lads! You deserve it with all the work you put into this show," James stood and ambled back to the tour bus, where Shacklebolt was already sleeping soundly, being the earliest riser of them all.
“Goodnight, all!” Peter loved his friends, truly. But he was convinced their stubborn sense of the meaning of courage would do them a great disservice.
As always when confronted with a decision to make, he visited the only jazz bar in Scotland, the Leaky Kettle. Immediately upon stepping inside, he let the smooth piano carry away the stress.
“The usual,” he told the bartender.
“Put it on my tab,” Tom Riddle swivelled around on the bar stool, "Fancy meeting you here."
"You mean you didn't expect to? Didn't plan it?" Peter received his drink with barely more than a sideways glance at their adversary.
"It's just business, Peter. I know you understand that."
"Then why go through all this trouble for one act? There must be thousands - hundreds of thousands - of talented artists who could make you rich."
Tom rolled his eyes, "My father was always… a bit single-minded. He wants to put me through my paces before handing me the keys to the kingdom, so to speak. But don’t worry about that. Just know this: I think your group is talented and I can see that you’re the musical glue holding it all together. You’re the only one with any formal training, after all. And I really can see to your career’s longevity. If you stick with this boyband too long, though…”
Peter raised his eyebrows, “Then what?”
“Well,” the label executive leaned in, “then you’ll need to think about what that does to your image as a real, serious musician.”
The blond boy finished his drink.
“Another one for my friend,” Tom told the bartender, took his jacket, and left.
His calling card sat heavy in the keyboardist’s wallet.

I really enjoy reading Cassie in BMTL. Children in fic are usually my pet peeve because they’re written as overly precocious, or not behaving as children usually do, or cloyingly perfect, but you seem to have found the right balance because Cassie reads as a very believable 5-year-old, even with the political knowledge leanings, which is well within reason for her upbringing. Do you find it hard to write her and get that balance? And is it the same Cassie in ‘ask me, I won’t say no’?
Thank you very much! I’m very attached to Cassidy as a character, and am pleased that she seems to have won over BMTL readers. She is, honestly, a breath of fresh air to write compared to Dan and Amy…she’s fully transparent in a way that Dan and Amy aren’t with each other. Her age has a lot to do with that, of course…and I was very strategic with picking her age for this fic, which determined almost everything else about it, honestly, including the political plot. I needed her old enough to have a personality, but young enough to still be completely reliant on her parents, and also, crucially, to not consciously *understand* what her parents do and how it affects their lives. Considering who her parents are, I think it’s believable that Cassie has a highly-developed vocabulary for a five year old. But at the same time, she doesn’t *really* know what words like “polling” and “opposition research” mean…they’re just things that her parents deal with everyday, that she absorbs subconsciously, and thus mimics back out into the world like all kids do.
I think the trick with writing kids is just not to be too precious about them, especially when it’s Dan and Amy. Like, obviously they love Cassidy, but it’s not like parenting has changed who they are as people. They don’t think raising a kid is this magical, sacred experience (although Dan might claim otherwise on his Instagram), and I suspect they barely think of themselves as parents…just barely-functioning adults who’ve somehow managed to acquire a tiny, confounding human. I’ve tried to convey that half the time, they don’t really know what the fuck to do with Cassidy, and like all parents…sometimes they think she’s infuriating and annoying. Of course, I’ve enjoyed writing Dan as a dad, making him struggle with feelings while at the same time, genuinely enjoying certain parts of fatherhood…whatever the Veep writers thought, S1-S4 Dan would have come around pretty quickly to being a dad. The social benefits alone would be enough for Iannucci-Dan to understand, on some level, that he’ll have to ‘settle down’ at some point.
The hardest thing about writing Cassie has been figuring out how young children process death, at an age where they don’t *really* understand it but still have some sense of its permanence. This will be on display more fully in the forthcoming chapters. I also do go back and tweak dialogue and descriptions in the fic, somewhat frequently, and I’ve modified a few lines slightly to make them sound more realistic.
And regarding ask me, I won’t say no, I guess theoretically, it’s the same Cassie, but the fic isn’t a prologue to BMTL or anything like that…so then technically it’s a different Veep timeline, haha. I wrote it while I was drafting Bring Me to Light, and just didn’t bother choosing a different name. And I think I just call her “Cassie” in that one-shot, instead of Cassidy, which is technically her full name. I’m very attached to the name, though, so across all my Veep timelines, Dan and Amy will have a kid named Cassidy. Dan makes a reference in Ep. 2.09 to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when he tells Amy they should go work for Chung, so Cassidy as a name feels Veep-approved. (But originally I chose it because it’s spunky, cute, sounds good with both Amy and Dan, and also is an Irish name. There’s a vague fandom consensus that Dan’s family is Irish.)
I have a thing about names…I’m incredibly picky about them. I realize part of this is completely subjective and up to one’s personal taste. But at the same time, names have history and context and cultural connotations. You have to pay attention to how they sound. There’s a rhythm to names you have to figure out. It’s a big pet peeve of mine in fanfic when people just assign names to characters without thinking them through. I walked around for a week thinking about names for Dan and Amy’s parents. And Amy and Dan are both fairly classic, traditional names, at least from an Anglo-American perspective (like many of the names on Veep). They would have never have a kid named…I don’t know…Chloe or Bella or Mia. Those names are cute and trendy, but they don’t “fit” with Dan and Amy in my opinion. (Sidenote: I always wonder who on the Veep creative team came up with the name Selina, because it’s such an unusual name for an American politician…a Selina would never be elected to high constitutional office the United States, and I’m only half-kidding when I say that.)
(Also, I hated the name Meagan for a Dan/Amy baby. Like, really hated it, and even though Dan took it off the table in the absolute worst way, I was relieved it was gone. Obviously Amy could not name her baby Meagan after that. Also, knowing how Mandel plotted Dan and Amy’s S7 storyline around certain jokes, I am decently sure they only picked the name because Meagan rhymes with Egan and they could play with that. Meagan makes me think of the word “meek”, which is…not a character trait associated with either Dan or Amy.)

JESSE JO STARK and Her Rock 'n' Roll Memories
Like a time capsule, Jesse Jo Stark’s songs are made up of fragments of her childhood, a time when she was introduced to some of the greatest punk and rock music in history by her parents. Her raw lyrics and signature hazy sound are indicative of her old soul, as she poetically compared her music to “little stars in the past escaping the modern world” at our interview.
As a Stark woman, the 28-year-old LA artist was born with a natural affinity for music and a cool-girl sense of style. Fashion enthusiasts may recall the all-black Chrome Hearts gown that Jesse Jo and her mother designed for Bella Hadid for the 2018 Met Gala. And while design has been one of her favorite creative pursuits since a young age, the singer-songwriter has kept herself busy with touring, performing live shows and working on her forthcoming debut album these days.
FOR THOSE WHO’RE JUST GETTING TO KNOW JESSE JO STARK, WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU’D WANT THEM TO LEARN ABOUT YOU? [I'd want them to know] that I’m in a band, that I play music. I really want people to take the time to listen to my music, because I feel like sometimes that’s not always the first thing that they know about me. So when I get those true fans that have followed my growth in that realm, I really respect and appreciate that.
MOST OF YOUR SONGS AND MUSIC VIDEOS HAVE A DISTINCT, NOSTALGIC FEEL TO THEM. HOW DO THE MOVIES AND MUSIC THAT YOU GREW UP WITH INFLUENCE YOUR SONGWRITING AND ARTISTIC VISION? I’ve always been infatuated with horror and old films, and how beautiful the dialogues are — they’re so well-spoken. I grew up watching old movies, so I like to get that across my videos and paying ode to that time. I think everything crosses over with each other. I like to draw from the same things that I’ve always been into since I was little. Not necessarily creating the past, but embracing it and trying to embody that in my work now.
I grew up listening to what my dad played in the car and the concerts he had been to. At the time I didn’t really appreciate it — I just wanted to listen to pop music — but I think it’s really influenced my taste now. It comes through in my writing. Hearing country every morning on the way to school just kind of stuck on me. I also try to incorporate some punk elements into my music.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE MOST VALUABLE LESSONS YOU’VE LEARNED WHILE PRODUCING ‘DANDELION,’ THE EP THAT YOU RELEASED LAST YEAR? I feel what was important to me from those studio sessions was really being there. I loved to be in the studio the entire time when the music was being made. I don’t like to miss anything.
What I learned is being really true to your sound and making sure that no matter who you’re collaborating with, they have your back and you have theirs. It’s a joint creation. I don’t just sing and leave, I want to be a part of it, and that’s what made it a special body of work for me. It was the first one that I really felt comfortable releasing and loved.
CAN WE EXPECT YOUR FULL-LENGTH PROJECT TO DROP SOON? HOW WOULD IT PROGRESS FROM ‘DANDELION’? I guess it would be my first album ever, and I’m hoping to put it out before December. I’m ready to do that. It’ll be an extension of ‘Dandelion,’ but I do think there will be different elements this time. I grew up a little bit more with [creating] every song.
I’m nervous to put out an album because I’ve been doing a single a month, so I think this would be a pivotal point in time for me and I’m every excited. So I try not to overthink it and put it out.
WHO ARE SOME MENTORS THAT HAVE HELPED YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY AS A MUSICIAN? My parents, some of my friends, my band, my godmother (Cher), artists that I don’t even know — so many people influence me in different times in my life. I meet so many incredible people every day. Just the band that I get to play with inspires me and allows me to grow as an artist.
WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES A GREAT PERFORMER? I’m still learning how to be a good performer. Touring has allowed me to grow immensely and made me a lot stronger — getting on stage, playing to new people that have never heard my sound, and having to really gain their respect. I learn something new about myself every time I play.
SPEAKING OF TOURING, TONIGHT MARKS THE SECOND-LAST STOP OF YOUR TOUR SUPPORTING LAUREN RUTH WARD. HOW HAS THE EXPERIENCE BEEN FOR YOU? This tour has been really fast but so amazing. Lauren is really supportive, it’s been great to be [touring] with a woman again. She has such a powerful voice, so I’ve honestly been taking her in every night and learning from her. It’s amazing to meet all these new people. I knew who she was, but being able to be with her and watch her play, and being able to play to her audience is completely different than the last tour. I’m sad that it’s so short, but it’s been really empowering and great.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AFTER FINISHING UP THIS TOUR? I’m excited that we’ll be going to London, and playing one of my first festivals in Leeds. And then I’ll have a solo show. So I don’t really feel like tour is over, it’s kind of like an extended tour. I’m not too sad that we get to travel a bit more.

okay episode 24 because i have a humiliation/degradation kink apparently. although it would be funny if the horrible bullshit was in ep 23 only and ep 24 was like. normal. i would love it. i would love to be able to say “this is a good show if you don’t watch this one fucked up episode”
(with a heavy sigh) let’s go...
oh jin xiaoyu is.... completely. fine. that’s. that’s good i guess. would have liked the cursed episode to focus on her a little bit more considering she’s uhhhhh the protagonist but like. whatever. if it lets me pretend 23 didn’t happen, i’m content
ah, jxy says “william singlehandedly saved qian tu and revealed that the ringleader was ye lai” but it’s just one sentence. you can still close your eyes for a second and pretend nothing happened.
maybe the conversations with lny that i saw were going to happen are about his side of things and his side only. let him be the lesser villain and not mention ye lai at all. please. i want to enjoy this mess
that joke wasn’t funny. not in an offensive way it just wasn’t funny. even if i wasn’t dead inside it would still be unfunny. next
this... jbj has never managed to find the mountain village, but with the hint of lny’s lab, he believes he might find it this time. i. would be more inclined to make it work in my head if he was still immortal, because something something both village and him would have Elements of the rock in them. but now....? uh, residual.....? help
william also had the idea of lny and jxy being lost siblings... ignoring what he’s done in the previous episode, haha lol whatcha writing those novels about buddy 😏 however if we’re not ignoring the last episode: i am ashamed
but also ? if people with this illness “don’t live past 30″ (or 25 in jxy’s case) then. how old is lny. i thought he was supposed to be like, around 30 with that stubble
lmao okay THAT is funny. a whole 187cm of a dude stopping and going 🥺 at his Wound.... which is just a cut on his hand because Plant Leaves Sharp. everyone else: ????????????? okay?????????
jxy obviously drinking from an empty flask 💛 i love it. there were Easier and Simpler solutions such as, if you didn’t want cyh to drink, you could have shown a shot of her lowering the (full, containing actual water) flask from her mouth -- her lips would still be wet as if she did drink, the flask wouldn’t be obviously empty, the illusion would still be Intact. slightly pained, but nonetheless fond sigh
hmm hmmm the village is still there even though it’s been ruined by the avalanche. hallucinogenic fog or lin nuoyan, very beautiful, very powerful?
love how it was apparently obvious to everyone that the mysterious bags tied to the trees contained corpses but they let william cut one open anyway. i’m going to be a pathetic delusional fan and say it’s a little revenge on william for the cunt that he was last episode
i don’t know much about teeth so i’m going to nod along, jxy. but it’s cute how she petted the skull after putting it down lol
Tumblr media
i would Also feel this emotion if william was this close to me.
jbj looks Incredibly calm for someone whose girlfriend Future Wife went missing in some fucked up mountain village but what do i know
lin nuoyan my bro!!!! i missed you!!!! please make this show make sense again
...at least more sense than it had last episode. the bar is below ground level cmon
“i didn’t offer the drug to bella and mrs xu, it was ye lai, she’s a lunatic!”
um. mrs xu’s daughter got the drug from a lady who’s been giving it to her husband. i don’t know about bella but can at least one (1) thing not be the Evil Incarnate Ye Lai’s fault? yet another moment to close your eyes on
kjhgjkfhgksjfg
“you have to sacrifice some people”
“then why don’t you sacrifice yourself?”
THAT LINE!!! lol
Tumblr media
hard agree
it’s just one big school trip huh. Everyone Is Here including the qian brothers! CAN WE FINALLY FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO QC OR
bro is that a fucking bomb. quick question do you know how avalanches are caused
oh he... damaged the water pump and the whole place will explode in a bit. okay. but. why
Tumblr media
okay this is funny.
ah they didn’t manage to make lny completely Normal but that convo w/ jbj wasn’t like. it was quite good i think. liu chao did well
oh so we. so we didn’t learn about what the fuck happened to qian cheng at all. unless the supreme villainess said it in one of the parts i skipped through because i couldn’t handle the overwhelming cringe and Bad. ah well it’s not like this show is particularly attached to the concept of making sense
but there Is a wedding! and. apparently jxy is... all okay now? did i skip that one part when they explained her illness just vanished or
right. cool. good for them i guess
