A1 : The same answer as Aurora, The Tale of Solis et Lunae that stars him alongside Aurora, Lunae, Jack, and Tate, plus more. A cosmic adventure / fantasy / coming of age / superhero / the reluctant hero / the chosen one. His role is of Aurora’s best friend and her greatest support in emotional and supernatural dangers. He is the time traveler who ascends time and space, so he often also gives her insight and information like the sage. It’ll expand across dimensions, worlds, and different states of existence. The scenes would be cinematic with a strong soundtrack. I imagine him to have some scenes like Quick Silver in the X-Men movies. Q2 : What would their soundtrack / score sound like ? A2 : He would have a 90s grunge or spacey dream rock sound. It ties in with the end of the last answer because i see him in one of those scenes with 90s grunge or maybe classical music ? Q3 : Why did you start writing this character ? A3 : I made Augustus just a bit before Aurora. They were a two part deal. I don’t know when it began, I just had this image of a tall, long haired boy with piercing, intelligent eyes who’s a smart-ass and likes being a know-it-all nuisance. This character has been the same since he began in 2019 and refused to change. He was always a drummer, he always had the same fashion sense, the look, Gus was always half-Korean, he always had long fingers he wore rings on, and he was always Aurora’s best friend/partner in crime. He remains unchanged and that's why I wanted to write him. This very vivid image of this boy was something I had to pen down. And just my luck, I found a fc who looks exactly how Gus looked in my head. Q4 : What first attracted you to this character ? A4 : Augustus is just extraordinary. It’s something I always felt about him and Aurora and I don’t see any of my other characters coming anywhere close to them regardless of how much I spent time on them. But with Augustus, his entire image and looks and personality — down to his wardrobe and jewelry was always so vivid in my head. Like I knew this very chaotically handsome boy who was going to turn the world upside down. His story is interesting, but what interests me more is his perspective on his story. The way he looks at his life and how he is quiet and doesn’t show his pain. How confused he always is. How much he aches but never seems so. The way he loves but doesn’t say even a quarter of the intensity he feels. And how sometimes he believes he deserves suffering because it makes sense to him. I also love the connections he makes and the way he loves so deeply and profoundly but underneath the surface. His connection, love, fears, and hopes with Aurora and Jack for their respective reasons are extremely beautiful. Q5 : Describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse. ? A5 : Augustus is unknowingly self-sabotaging. He let go the only relationship / love in his life that made him feel like real love just because he thought he didn’t deserve it. And because when he was provoked, it made “sense” to him. He bottles his emotions and pain so much despite their intensity. He never shows how much he really cares and really hurts. And how sure he is that he’ll end up alone without friends and that it makes sense to him. Q6 : What do you have in common with your muse ? A6 : Here’s a fun answer, because I bottle my emotions like him. I also interact with the carefree way he does even if I don’t feel peachy. He’s smart and witty and really hot and I don’t even have that going on for me. So, yikes. Only of Gus’ bad things I share. Q7 : How does your muse feel about you ? A7 : Gus loves interacting with people so he’ll definitely show up to annoy me. Maybe, he might think I’m fun to annoy? Or maybe, we’ll have a similar sense of humor. I think he won’t dislike me. Not sure if he’ll like me. I think he’d think I’m funny in a strange sort of way. Q8 : What characters does your muse have interesting interactions with ? A8 : Aurora, first of all. They have this same brain wave-length thing going on where they’re partners in crime and bffs forever more. He knows how she is feeling and what she’s thinking even before she utters it. If she is about to sneeze, he’d get a tissue ready. He can tell if she is hungry or sleepy with one glance. She can do the same, so they sorta have this weird understanding of each other. Jack is this older brother figure Augustus loves. He won’t admit it, but he kinda wants to make Jack proud of him. He also wants to provide love and care to Jack that he thinks he deserves but never got. They’re his family now and he’ll never be alone or sad again. He annoys Jack a lot but behind it all, he just wants Jack to think he is needed and he belongs. That if he thinks Augustus is reliant on him, then he has this family he has to protect and care for. He can’t stand the thought of Jack feeling unloved, forgotten, alone. Tida is another one. There’s this great respect and adoration Gus has for him. Almost like he looks up to him in some ways He also has a lot of hopes and expectations attached. He feels Tida is everything that Gus himself lacks. He is the ideal boyfriend, kindest person, shows his emotions vividly, and is like a warm and cozy blanket personified. He is probably Tida and Aurora’s biggest supporter and first one to know. He can’t be happier than he is that Aurora found someone as good and perfect as Tida. Taewon is one really fun character. Their two-way frenemy jealousy spans over years and started in Cambridge when they were both in love with the same girl they claimed to be best friends with. Though, trying to be calm, Augustus was constantly provoked and hurt, made to feel inferior and constantly in fear of his relationship being broken by Taewon’s schemes that he couldn’t say out loud. This dark period ended with a fist fight and baggage of guilt they both carry to this day for hurting each other and the one they claimed to love. Today, they’re way past that and frenemies who have funny quips and arguments for each other. They say they dislike each other. But if the lighting is good, one would be the photographer of the other. Q9 : What gives you inspiration to write your muse ? A9 : Music helps me imagine scenes with perfect visual details. Any scenes from shows that remind me of my storylines. Q10 : How long did this take you to complete ? A10 : I don’t remember. It was many days and I didn’t count because it was in bits and pieces.

Figured I’d toss my hat into the ring and get back into the swing of things with this contest entry for @kururu418 ‘s latest contest! I feel like its been a hot minute since I’ve contributed to this universe and have been itching to get back into it... though classes and life in general have kept me from it sadly :’D With that said lets get into it!

Name: Syssa

Age: (Appears 18, likely much older)

Gender: Cis Female

Pantheon: Greek

Appearance: In her usual form Syssa is rather unassuming other than her notable muscles that might look a bit odd on such a “hippie” sort of individual. She wears a brown dress, sandals, some sleeves and some gold jewelry here and there. Most notably worn is THE AMULET OF HARMONIA, really its a copy of the one her father wears. It keeps her suitably blissed out. She’s about 5′10″, freckled, has green eyes, messy black hair (often with flowers in it), and often has bags under her eyes.

In her “angry” form she manifests armor upon her body of a dark purple hue, as well as a blue cape. Her eyes appear as little more than red orbs of hate hidden beneath her helmet. Lots of spikes everywhere. Oh, and also she tends to grow in size in this form - the exact upper limit of this height is unknown though surely within the 100s of feet, much like her father.

Background: Syssa is the demi-god daughter of Ares and an unknown mortal woman. Unfortunately for her mother she inherited her father’s otherworldly temper and tendency to fly off the handle, grow in size, and spew fire everywhere. Her mother, unable to handle such a child handed her over to her father.

From a young age her father trained her in the art of war as a means of an outlet for her inhuman rage and bloodlust. She has the blood of a war god in her veins, surely this would help? Though she was well trained Syssa still had little control over her godly temper and thus a duplicate of THE AMULET OF HARMONIA was made for the young demi-god. So long as she wears it she exists in a blissed out state, her inner rage sated. Syssa much prefers it this way and has thus spent much of her time gardening, taking naps, doing yoga, and spreading kindness unto others. While she cannot use her full powers in this state she understands that it is necessary so that she does not lash out and attack/kill her friends and family.

The amulet constantly fights the godlike rage within her in tandem with her own body, so, even with it on she appears pretty tired because her body is still in a constant war with itself.

When she hears about Oberon’s hit on Astro and promise of a special favor she jumps at the opportunity. The favor she would ask for? A means for her body to be at balance with itself - a way for her to tap into her true godly potential without succumbing to mindless rage - one that doesn’t require the amulet.

And so she has come to claim that prize. She will keep the amulet on for now, but beware, if backed into a corner she may just take the amulet off and give in to her fury. Woe betide any who cross her path in such a sate for both friend and foe alike will be little more than chaff to be trampled under the demi-god’s foot.

Personality: With the amulet on Syssa is the most chill gal you could ever meet. She speaks slowly and often appears pretty blissed out. She might appear a little airheaded, and a little too calm and friendly, but the alternative is worse.

Without the amulet on she is quick to anger. That anger can quickly blossom into a rage state the likes of which, though she might try to fight it to the best of her abilities, will always consume her mind. In this state she sees not friend or foe, but rather EVERYONE becomes the enemy of the endless war she is mentally thrust in. She is little more than a raging berserker, a beast, one which cannot be sated without her amulet. As long as you have the amulet on hand and don’t break it or something it should be fine right?

Powers and Abilities: Syssa has godlike strength, the ability to grow in height/size to over 100s of feet, a control over the element of fire, and a proficiency in weapons (taught by Ares himself!) With the amulet on these powers are greatly weakened, with the amulet off... She can certainly be a problem even for other gods.

Relationships (if any):

Ares: Dear old, dad. He’s the only one who gets the rage she has to live with. She greatly loves her father and seeks to make him proud. Even in her blissed out state she may try to spar with him every now and again just to make him happy.

Other Greek Gods: Most of the other gods are probably at least a little wary of her and her temper. They like her better when she’s blissed out, but... might still keep their distance. Syssa is... not unaware of the distance they keep.

Trivia: The Ares I based her father off of, and subsequently her, is actually the iteration from the DC Superhero Girls webseries! While I’m not overly fond of the webseries (at least in comparison to the show proper) I do actually like this interpretation of Ares and think its very endearing. (You can check out the episodes he’s in by looking up Fresh Ares and Ares Up There on youtube. That’s it that’s all he appears in! So that said he really could be any Ares, just those episodes were my main inspiration)

Mending a Broken Heart (Tom Holland x reader)

a/n: i posted this before but it flopped so...let’s hope that doesn’t happen again!

You had noticed it for months. Tom has been pulling away, spending more time out with the boys than at home with you. His kisses became forced and the words ‘love you’ slowly stopped falling from his lips.

Most days he would leave for work before you woke up and on the rare occasion you were up when he left, he would mumble a ‘goodbye’ before walking out the door. Sometimes, if you were lucky, he would press a gentle kiss to your forehead. Most times, though, he would just leave.

You did your best to keep the love alive, you were still madly in love with him. The wedding band that sat tightly on your ring finger mocked you. A symbol of what was love has turned into one sided love. Hell, you weren’t sure if Tom wore his wedding ring anymore.

A quick glance to his left hand would reveal that he didn’t.

You spent your nights wondering if it was something you did. Were you too clingy when he left to film? Was he just tired of you after four years of marriage? Did he find someone else?

No. You shook your head to yourself one night as you laid in the bed by yourself, the space usually occupied by Tom cold. If he found someone else and if he cheated, that’s on him. Not on you.

Still, the thought plagued your mind. Did he meet someone else? Was she prettier than you? Is that where he was when he said he was out with the boys? Was she able to give him something you couldn’t give him?

The door opening and shutting alerted you that Tom was home. You sighed, knowing it’d be another night of sleeping on opposite sides of the bed.

The door to the bedroom opened and in came Tom, Tessa jumping up to greet him.

“Hey girl, hey love, how are you, hm?” He whispered, petting Tessa as his eyes flickering over to you, who was visibly awake. “Thought you’d be asleep by now. ‘S late.”

“Couldn’t sleep.” You replied simply. “Hey so I was thinking, we haven’t had a date night in a while, maybe you wanted to go out to see the Halloween decorations around town and get dinner tomorrow night?”

“Can’t,” He shook his head as he got ready for bed. “Harrison wants to watch the game. Told him I’d go.”

“Didn’t you just see Harrison tonight?”

“Yeah, and?”

“Nothing.” You sighed, obviously upset. “Nothing, Tom. Goodnight.”

“Night.” He responded, turning out the light and climbing into bed, falling asleep with his back toward you.

The next day, you were surprised to see Tom already awake and waiting in the kitchen, sipping on a cup of tea when you got downstairs.

“Good morning.” You smiled softly.

“We need to talk.” He told you. You felt your heart drop and your palms get sweaty, but you wiped them on your pajama pants in an effort to seem totally calm and not panicked.

“A-About what?” You asked, your voice coming out shaky.

“I think,” Tom started. “I think we should get divorced.”

It was then, at 8:30 am that your world came crashing down.

“W-What?” You whimpered out, your voice weaker than before. “Why?”

“I’m not happy with you anymore.” He said simply. Your eyes flickered to his left hand, noticing the absence of the golden wedding band, making your heart ache.

“We can try couples’ therapy. We can go on dates like we used to, Tom, please! We can fight for this, Tom. Fight for us.” You cried, your heart shattering into a million tiny pieces, each one puncturing your lungs as you struggled to keep your breath under control.

“No,” He shook his head. “My mind is made up. I’m sorry, y/n. Um, I found a lawyer at a firm, they have a lot of other lawyers there you can contact. I’ll just, uh, leave their card here.”

“So that’s it? Three years of dating and four years of marriage down the drain?” You sobbed, holding your knees to your chest as you sat on the kitchen floor.

“I’m sorry, y/n. Truly, I am.”

He placed the small business card on the counter, grabbing the bags you didn’t even notice, mumbling an ‘I’ll be staying with Haz,’ before walking out the front door, like he did every other day. This time, though, you had the sinking feeling he was leaving for good.

It was only three weeks that your lawyer came over to meet with you, joined by Tom and his lawyer. You kept your eyes focused on the table as you signed the paperwork, wanting to get this done as soon as possible.

As soon as everyone left, you shut the door, slid down the back of it, and cried.

Nearly two months after the worst day of your life and it was time for a self care night. The ring that once sat on your left hand was buried away in your jewelry box somewhere and you were finally starting to feel free and somewhat happy again after crying yourself to sleep and wondering where it all went wrong for months.

After the divorce you buried yourself in work, using it as a distraction from going home to an empty house. Slowly but surely, the framed pictures of you and Tom came down, making a new home on the empty shelves in the closet. It hurt to be alone in the empty house at first, memories of you and Tom when you were happy plaguing the walls. Once you started making time for yourself, however, you became happier.

Tonight, after a long day of decorating the house and making it seem cheery, you ordered your favorite Chinese food, played your favorite Christmas songs, and ran yourself a bath with a vanilla scented bath bomb. You were enjoying a glass of wine, the hot water of the bath soothing you when the music playing from your phone was interrupted by a call coming in.

To your surprise, it was Tom. You contemplated answering it, but instead, let it go to voicemail. However, you were curious as to why he called, though you were also 99% positive it was a pocket dial. So you played the voicemail, the familiar voice ringing throughout the bathroom.

“Hey y/n, um, I hope you’re doing well. I just called because I wanted to tell you something. I um, I miss you. A lot. And I know I don’t get to feel that way but I do and I just wanted to tell you that and I guess ask if there was any possibility of meeting to talk? Uh, call me back if...if you want. I don’t blame you if you hate me. Bye. Love y-”

You turned off the voicemail before the phrase could be finished. Millions of thoughts filled your mind, ranging from happy ones to ones that made your heart ache and tears fill your eyes.

You decided to ignore it, pretend it never happened, and enjoy your self care night.

The next day you were enjoying a cup of tea and reading your book when a knock on the door interrupted you. Confusion filled your body, you weren’t expecting anyone to pop by.

Opening the door, you were greeted by a sight you never thought you’d see again. Tom was standing on your the top step leading up to the front door, a bouquet of your favorite flowers in his hands.

“Hi.” He breathed out, his breath forming a cloud around him due to the coldness of the air.

“What are you doing here?” You asked, keeping your eyes focused on the ground.

“Did you get my voicemail?” He responded, hope filling his eyes when you nodded. “Um, I brought these for you. I was hoping we could talk.”

“Why should I talk to you? We’re divorced, just like you wanted.” Tom winced at the words. “Nothing to change.”

“Actually, we’re not.” He corrected. “I called the office the other day. Um, it’s not official yet.”

“Well then they should make it official. Maybe I can call them and make it happen as my very last Christmas present to you. Just what you wanted.” You snapped.

“No, this isn’t what I want, can I speak, please?” He pleaded, his eyes resembling those of a puppy.

“Fucking, fine, Tom! Jesus.” You groaned.

“Can, can I come in?” He asked, his voice small and fragile.

You debated saying no, saying that he’s not welcome in your house after what he did. But it was snowing and to be honest, your face was getting cold. So you opened the door a little wider, allowing him to come in.

“Stay there.” You instructed, taking the flowers from him and placing them on the kitchen counter before going back to where he was waiting at the front door, taking a seat on the stairs across from him. “Speak.”

“The house looks nice. Really nice. You did a good j-”

“Tom I’m not gonna listen to your small talk. Say what you have to say and leave.” You told him. His heart broke but he couldn’t blame you.

“Um, so I thought I wasn’t happy with you but um, as time went on, I realized how much I miss having you in my life.” He began, visibly nervous. “I was just looking through our pictures and how happy you looked and I just, I guess I realized I wanted to be the one to make you that happy again.”

“You haven’t made me happy in months, Tom.”

“I know.” His heart clenched. “I know and I’m so sorry, y/n. I really am.”

“Was there someone else? Did you cheat on me?” You asked.

“No, no absolutely not, y/n.” He answered before adding; “I went on a date with someone after we split up but it didn’t work out. I realized she wasn’t what I want.”

“Of course she wasn’t.” You scoffed.

“I want you, y/n. I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy again.” He told you, tears filling your eyes. “Is there..is there any possibility you could love me again?”

“Again?” You seethed. “Tom I never fell out of love with you! I never stopped loving you! That was all you! You stopped loving me and you wanted this stupid fucking divorce!”

“I..I don’t think I ever stopped loving you either.” He whispered, tears falling down his rosy cheeks. “Please, y/n, if there’s even the tiniest chance..”

“Of what, Tom? Of going right back to being married? Of you making me happy? I don’t know, Tom! I don’t know anything except that I hate you right now.” You sobbed, crying into your knees while Tom let out quiet sobs of his own, his heart clenching at the lack of wedding band on your left hand and the missing pictures that previously decorated the first hallway in your once shared house.

“Of..anything, y/n. Please, I just want a second chance to show you how much you mean to me, to make you happy again. I will do anything to save us, anything you want. And...and if it’s not working or you just really hate me, I wouldn’t blame you. Not at all.” He begged, his eyes puffy and red.

“I tried to save us, Tom. Don’t you remember? I begged and pleaded with you to do couples therapy to go on dates when you were breaking my heart into a million tiny pieces. I begged you to try and fight for us, for our marriage, but you just walked out the god damn door!” You spit through gritted teeth.

“I fucked up, I know. I fucked up so badly.” He cried, wiping his tears away.

“And if leaving me wasn’t enough, you took Tessa too! I was left completely alone in this big fucking house that was haunted by you.” You sobbed.

“I’m..I’m sorry, y/n. So so fucking sorry. What do you want me to do?”

“I want...I want you to hurt. I want you to hurt the way you hurt me. I want you to know how this fucking feels.” You said, your voice getting louder with each word that fell from your lips.

Tom could only cry. This was ripping him apart, he couldn’t even imagine what the whole thing felt like to you.

“I’m gonna need time to think, Tom.” You finally mumbled, Tom nodding in response.

“I’ll give you all the time you need. I promise you-”

“Don’t. Don’t promise me anything.” You spoke, your voice low. “You won’t be able to keep it. You promised you’d love me forever four years ago and look what happened.”

“The pictures of us aren’t up anymore.” Tom sniffled, changing the subject.

“I hated looking at them.” You told him honestly. “I want to start over.”

“I want to start over. I can’t go back to being emotionally married to you even if we’ll still be married legally. I’m talking starting from scratch, as if we were meeting for the first time, the whole deal.” You told him.

“That sounds perfect, y/n. Thank y-”

“Get out, Tom. Please. I just want to be alone and not with you right now. I’m still not happy with you.”

“Okay.” He breathed out, hope filling him once again. “You won’t regret this, I promise.”

“What did I just say about promises?” You asked tearily.

“I know, I know. I’m determined to keep this promise, though.” He told you.

“Fine. Whatever. Just please leave for now.” You whimpered, watching as he walked out the door, just like he did when he broke your heart.

You decided you needed another self care night. Another bath was run, another vanilla scented bath bomb was used, more wine was consumed.

Tom texted you right as you got out of the bath.

Tom: hey y/n, it’s tom, just incase you don’t have my number saved anymore. I just wanted to say thank you for the second chance. I really am grateful. I hope you have a relaxing night, you deserve it.

You rolled your eyes and tossed your phone gently on your bed, though you could feel your heart rate pick up and butterflies fill your stomach.

Tom began texting you sweet little things each morning, whether it was to let you know that he’s been thinking of you or to tell you that he hopes you have a great day. At first you ignored them, but then you began responding in short answers of one or two words until the two of you were texting every day, like when you met for the first time seven years ago.

Over a month after you started texting again, Tom took you on a first date. Pulling up to your house, Tom felt the nerves fill his body as he walked up to your front door and knocked, another bouquet of your favorite flowers in his hand.

He felt all the air leave his lungs as you opened the door. You looked absolute stunning. You were wearing a navy blue dress that reached down to just above your knees, one Tom bought you one year.

“Wow, hi.” He breathed. “You look stunning.”

“Thank you.” You smiled, accepting the flowers he handed you. “I’ll be right back.”

Tom took you to your favorite restaurant that night, one that the two of you frequented when you (formerly) went on dates.

When he took you back to your house, he walked you up to the front door, where he nervously asked if he could kiss you.

You said yes, and that was all Tom needed to press a soft kiss to your lips. The kiss was magical, both of you felt the sparks between the two of you.

“God I missed doing that.” Tom mumbled as he pulled away to breathe.

“Then do it again.”

A couple months after that, Tom moved back in with you. The pictures of the two of you were dusted off and put back up on the walls in the first hallway of the house.

Finally, after a year, Tom proposed to you (again). You hesitated a little bit, still scared it would end in heartbreak again, which broke Tom’s heart, but said you yes in the end.

The two of you renewed your vows, putting on the golden bands that were once again a symbol of the love the two of you shared.

You had a small party back at your house after the ceremony, your families joining to celebrate. You found Tom alone in the kitchen, grabbing a beer for him and Harry.

“Hey.” You greeted, fiddling with your fingers as tears of happiness filled your eyes.

“Hey, what’s wrong, my love?” Tom asked, concerned as soon he saw the tears filling your eyes.

“Nothing, nothing. I, um,” You started, wiping your tears away and wrapping your arms around Tom’s neck. “I’m really glad we made it back to this.”

“Me too, lovey. I love you so much.” He whispered, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.

“Hey, Tommy?”

“Yeah?”

“You kept your promise.” You smiled softly, making Tom’s heart ache at the memory of you not being able to trust him.

“I told you I would.”

Your phone alarm goes off.

"Time to get ready." You breath out. You stretch your arm to grab your phone off the little table next to you and turn the alarm off. You stretch out on your patio lounge chair, cracking a few bones in your back. You finish off your glass of wine and stand.

Walking inside of your penthouse you grab the stereo remote and play your favorite song, "Confident" by Demi Lovato. After a quick trip to your kitchen to dispose of the glass in the dishwasher you walk into your bedroom and into the bathroom. After a quick shower to rid yourself of sunscreen smell you wrap a robe around yourself and start styling your hair. You then put some light makeup on and head to your walk-in closet.

You stand there, tapping your foot to the song as you look around at your clothes.

You had faith in your blind date tonight. This was the first guy to take you somewhere expensive. You're hoping that means he'll have better class than just blatantly stare at your face the whole night.

You've heard of the place that he's taking you to: a VIP bar named LUX. You've never been to it, mainly because a man who calls himself the "Devil" runs the place, and clearly anyone whose psycho enough to call themselves that has to have an awful establishment.

But the reviews you've seen have all been five stars, and after scrolling through the comments section for about an hour no one said anything bad about the place.

They also all praised the owner.

You decide on a short, tight, red lace dress with half long sleeves. You pair it with black high heels and various black pieces of jewelry. You receive a text from your date saying he's arrived, and after spraying on some perfume as well as one final check in the mirror you head on down.

Please, be the one.

He was not the one.

The poor guy tried his best, though. Making sure his eyesight was trained on the road and not your scarred/burned up side of face that was next to him. You gave him an hour and allowed him to buy one drink before you told him this wouldn't work out.

He even apologized. The gall, really.

"I'm surprised you let it last that long. Didn't look fun at all."

You raise your one brow up at the man who now sat next to you at the bar. Tall, dark, handsome, wore an expensive suit and a smile as he sipped his drink.

"It wasn't. Nothing new for me though." You say as you take another sip of your drink.

The man hums in response, then holds out one hand to you, "Pardon me, darling. Lucifer Morningstar."

Oh great. You politely shake his hand back, "Y/N L/N."

"Of course you are. The beautiful new upcoming model." His smile turns flirtatious.

You roll your eyes, "Please. Don't blatantly lie in your flirtations just to make me feel better."

Lucifer looks offended, "I'm not trying to make you feel better at all. You said this was a natural occurrence for you, shame really, and you look fine. Also, I never lie."

"Never? That's hard to believe."

"For you humans, perhaps." He chuckles at the look on your face, "Right. The name doesn't lie, dear. I am the Devil."

"Uh huh." You turn back to rest your elbows on the bar and continue your drink.

"Typical reaction." His smile dims slightly, "Do you not believe you're beautiful?"

"Of course I believe I'm beautiful." You look back at him offended, "Which is why I don't need you men to continue saying it like I don't know or believe in it."

"Oooh, feisty. Perfect." His flirtatious smile is back.

"So, why are you here Mr. Morningstar, if not to think you'd make me feel better?" You swirl your drink in the glass and study him.

"I thought I'd give you a better date." He gestures to his body, "Myself!"

What Lucifer Morningstar expected was the normal flushed face and glossy eyes that humans usually give him when he flashes his smile and eyes.

Instead, you laughed.

And laughed.

The Devil had never been more confused in his whole life, "Well, this is a new reaction to me." He mutters.

"You?" It takes a while, but you manage to speak again, "What makes you think I'd want to date you?"

"Uh, have you looked at me, darling?" He gestures to himself once more, "I'm beautiful, rich, have impeccable style, and confidence to match your own. Surely that's all the qualities you're looking for?"

You laugh again, "You? Confidence?" You continue to laugh.

Lucifer was getting annoyed now, "I'd very much like to know what's so funny!"

After calming down again you look him dead in the eyes, "I, in no way, see confidence in you Mr. Morningstar."

The Devil is speechless.

"You're clearly a man who hides behind the Devil facade to make people love and fear him. I see nothing 'Devil' about you." You get up from your seat and collect your purse, "Thanks for the laugh. Good night 'Mr. Morningstar'." You leave the dumbfounded man.

"See?" A few minutes after you left Mazikeen walks up from behind the bar to collect your empty glass. Lucifer still sat where he was and his eyes were still trained on the door you left from, "Even humans are starting to see how soft you've become."

The Devil looks to his demon bodyguard. She gives him a stank eye and smile before walking away. Lucifer looks back to the door.

"I am the Devil." He mutters quietly to himself. He then gets up and retreats to his penthouse for the rest of the night.

You suppose one thing Mr. Morningstar got correct in his "Devil" play is that the Devil never leaves you alone when he finds you.

Which is why you aren't too surprised to catch his figure behind the flashing cameras.

"Mr. Morningstar." You nod a hello to him when your photo shoot finally finished.

"Ms. L/N." He smiles at you and follows you to your changing room.

You sit down in front of your vanity and start taking off the accessories and wiping off the makeup, "So, this face of mine couldn't leave your mind, I take it?"

"Oh absolutely! Not in the way you're thinking though." You watch him from the mirror come to stand behind you. He smiles at your reflection and leans in behind you, "I do hope you couldn't get my face out of your mind either, darling."

You weren't going to admit how the past few nights your dreams had been about him. You suppose his strong sex appeal is another thing he got right in his Devil act.

You raised an eyebrow in response to his reflection, and apparently that's all an answer he needed. His face became incredibly smug.

"Why are you here Mr. Morningstar?"

"To ask for your assistance Ms. L/N."

You look at his reflection quizzically, "With?"

"Confidence."

Your eyebrow raises, "Why come to me?"

"Because clearly you must be a master at it if you think I, the Devil, lacks it."

You watch him carefully in the mirror for a moment. You see him fidget with his ring slightly and notice how his eyes looked away for a second when he asked. Asking for help with this clearly upsets him in some way.

You grab a napkin from your vanity and write down your address. You stand and face him while holding out the napkin, "Here's my address. Meet me there. I should be there within the hour."

He takes it and pulls on a flirtatious look, "If this is your kind of help I should definitely be a master at confidence."

You shake your head and look at him seriously, "If you seriously want my help with your confidence then meet me there and lose the flirtations." You cross the room and open the door, "Now please excuse me while I change."

"I don't much care how that happened to you, but more whoever did that has been punished." Lucifer looks genuine in his anger, and that makes you open up more to him.

"Yeah, I'm making sure they are." You head into your kitchen to pour yourself and Lucifer a glass of wine. You hand him his glass and continue, "Parents. They're low life dealers who used their 'accident' to pass around their drugs. Cops don't suspect a little girl." You take a sip of your wine while Lucifer just holds the glass and watches you, "I stupidly said how I wanted to be a model when I grow up, and they freaked. If I go so does their business. So," you gesture the left side of your scarred and burned face, "real life 'Two Faced' was made."

"Where are your parents now?" Lucifer's voice was tight, and you notice the grip on his glass tighten.

"Jail. Where I make sure they'll be for the rest of their lives."

"That's good enough for you?"

"Why wouldn't it be? I ruined their perfect little drug life business and made a name out of myself. That's 'punishment' enough, knowing their fucked up faced accident will have a better life than them."

"I see." Lucifer looks down at his glass and downs it to calm himself, "We happen to have something in common, my dear." He sets the glass down on your counter.

"Oh?"

"Yes...my Father gave me a scar of sorts. A new face to represent my unholy deeds."

"I don't see it."

"...I hide it."

"And that's your problem." You set your glass down and motion for him to follow you, "It took a long time for me to be comfortable with this new face. I've learned you need to push through and work with what you got to have a comfortable life."

You lead him through your bedroom and walk-in closet to the secret door behind some old clothes. You open the door and step into a tiny room of infinite mirrors.

"This helped me a lot." You say as you step inside the small space and spin around. "Anywhere I look I can't escape this face, this past of mine. I have to own it. I have to love it in order to live." You step out of the room and to the side, "Bring out your scars. Face them head on. You can't escape from them. They’re your life. Own them."

Lucifer takes a deep breath in and out. He tugs on his suit jacket and cufflinks before entering the mirror world and closing the door.

Enough time passes for you to become hungry. You decide to start making dinner for yourself, and Lucifer, while you continue to wait. When you start making up plates is when he finally emerges.

"This is...more difficult than I thought." He says to you as he goes to stand on the other side of your kitchen island.

"No one can do it in one day." You turn around and hand him a plate of food, "But I already see a difference in you. Not quite the 'Devil' you claim to be, but a man taking the first step into his self consciousness."

He accepts the food and sits on a stool, "Not sure where I can put a room like that in my home."

"You don't have to. You're free to come over whenever to face it." You sit down next to him and give him a small smile, "I'd like to watch the progress, and hopefully see this 'Devil'."

"It's more hideous than I realized, darling. You'd become a melting pool of fears if you saw it."

"I have my own Devil, Lucifer." You take a bite of food, "I think I'll be fine."

"Hm." He starts eating his food, "We'll see about that."

Months go by. Lucifer's visits to you and your mirror room become more regular as his time with the LAPD becomes less. His edge and sharpness returns. His cockiness and King nature return in full force. Detective Decker tells her partner to not come back until he's back to normal.

But this is his normal, he realizes. He's the Devil. Why would the Devil let a human woman change him into the man his Father desires?

He doesn't care. He enjoys his time with you more and more. He enjoys how you accept him, the bad and good mixed together.

Today's the sixth month he's been doing this experiment. He's currently standing in your mirror room. Devil face on. He smiles.

"Are you ready, darling?" He calls out.

"Yes, Lucifer. Show me your scars. Show me your confidence."

He exits the room. Devil still on along with the smile. It takes you a moment, but you smile back and wrap your arms around his neck. His arms wrap around your waist and he pulls you tight against him.

Captain Bartholomew Roberts is quoted as calling a pirate's life "a short life, but a merry on." This proved to be extremely prophetic. He became perhaps the most successful Golden Age pirate in terms of booty, capturing over 400 ships, despite being active just three years. He was an intelligent, forceful man, and by all accounts a popular one amongst his men who enjoyed his pirate's life.

He had never intended to be a pirate, but he was captured by his soon-to-be crew when serving on a civilian vessal. Within six weeks of his kidnapping he was elected captain after a mutiny, due to his strong personality and incredible navigational skills. Upon his election he "[said] that since he had dipp'd his Hands in Muddy Water, and must be a Pyrate, it was better being a Commander than a common Man." (Quoted by Charles Johnson in his previously mentioned 1724 book [title shortened to] A General History of the Pyrates).

Soon Roberts's flag struck fear into even the bravest sailor. He was ruthless, intelligent, highly strategic and successful when it came to pillaging and plundering. While he could be cold to his victims, he was well-loved by his crew for his fairness and skill.

He was in some ways the archetypal pirate and in others he was completely contradictory. His sex life was one difference, but that will be expounded on later. He was a teetotaler, consistently choosing tea over rum. He was religious, made his men swear on a bible, and may have even enforced observation of the Sabbath (although that day of rest may have also just been to give his men time off). While he was not especially cruel to his prisoners he was not kind either. The fates of his victims tended to be left up to vote among the crew. While he was in favor of murder and pillage, rape was strictly forbidden.

Ultimately Roberts was killed by grapeshot to the throat, fired from the British Royal Navy's HMS Swallow. Roberts's crew, drunk on success from their recent capture of the Neptune, and also the Neptune's booze, were caught off guard. His shocked and horrified crew were able to fulfill his wish to bury him at sea with his arms, fine clothing, and outrageous jewelry. They were then captured.

Roberts remains one of the most influential pirates in popular culture. His pirate code still exists (the rules his men had to agree to) and many writers take influence there. He is one of the inspirations for Long John Silver and the origin of the Dread Pirate Roberts. He has made appearances in everything from One Piece to Assassin's Creed. In Wales he has become something of a mythical figure appearing in many poems and novels.

Probable Orientation: Gay ace, demi, or maybe aroace with a male/male QPP (also potentially a trans man due to his privacy and the fact that his body was so quickly disposed of by his crew. Of course this is far from definitive proof, a cis man can be a private person and very likely his crew did not want their beloved Captain to be displayed in death by the royal Navy, but it is a theory. Actually the theory was he was a woman in drag, but there is little evidence he identified as a woman in any way. If he was DFAB he would probably be trans.)

And guys, trust me, pirates are hella Queer. Just. So very, extremely queer. The queerest.

Not necessarily gay in the sense of homosexual (although it often was), but always Queer in the sense of being complicated, not fitting inside cishet relationships, and crossing far over the line of what was (and still is) considered acceptable.

Life on a pirate ship blurred the lines between homosocial, homosensual, and homosexual. Pirates often had partners called matelots that were very much like Boston Marriages, sometimes romantic, sometimes sexual, sometimes queerplatonic, usually between the three. But they were recognized within the ship. They got benefits if their partner died. A lot of pirates were former navy men, some left because of the harsh treatments, unfair pay, or because they were press ganged, but some left because they were gay/mspec /otherwise queer, which was a dangerous thing to be. What does an unemployed seaman do? Often turn to piracy because of the fairness and freedom.

As indicated by Roberts's election as Captain pirate ships were Democratic, something that certainly didn't exist on Navy or commercial vessels. Likewise you were better paid. Far better.

A short life, but a merry one.

So now Roberts specifically. Pirates may have had their matelots but they were infamous for their conduct at brothels, they would spend their whole share of their booty there on sex and booze. It was practically tradition. Roberts never visited a brothel. Ever. He was extremely chaste, for the most part he appeared to be entirely uninterested in sex.

He had a matelot, George Wilson, a surgeon (though not on his ship), with whom he was extremely close. It is not clear whether it was romantic/sexual or queerplatonic. The men were described as "intimate" by people who saw them together (from context it meant emotional intimacy) and their connection as being affectionate and emotional. It was also noted that Wilson borrowed nice clothes to visit Roberts and was considerably excited.

"[Wilson] was very intimate with Roberts, they two using often to say, that if they should meet with any of the Turnip Man's Ships, meaning the King's Ships, they would blow up, and go to Hell together…"

(Roberts wore extremely fine clothing, lots of weapons [like pistols crossed across his chest), and exuberant jewelry (including a gold and diamond cross necklace] so Wilson probably wanted to look his best.)
