This line of thinking shows up a Lot when trans people try to talk about the impact of the Holocaust on the trans community, and yes part of the impetus for the destruction of the Institut for Sexualwisschenschaft and its library was that Magnus Hirschfeld was Jewish.
Except he wasn't there. He ultimately died of a heart attack in Nice, France.
And if the near-total destruction of early 20th century trans history and research was, as is often implied in such responses like this, just an accidental thing, just collateral damage... wouldn't it have stopped there?
Instead, trans people got sent to concentration camps along with every gay, Roma, or person of colour the Nazis could find. They may not have called us trans (the term transgender itself wouldn't be properly codified until 1965), but that was why they were putting us there.
The destruction of the Institut is legally considered part of the Nazi crimes during the Holocaust and one of its earliest contributing events. To deny that we were there is, legally, Holocaust denial.

personally I think that all queer books should have a “special edition” with a subtle cover (and a code name if it’s necessary) for all of the people in homophobic areas

Having a complex, queer, in-good-faith identity that others might not immediately get is not the same thing as being a violent bigot, and frankly, I think people need to remember that just because you don't "get" an identity, that doesn't mean it is hurting you specifically. Being a bigot is harmful, being a human being with complex experiences is not. Don't equate the two.

it’s very important to me how my therapist (attachment trauma specialist) who works with a lot of adoptees and ffy is also obsessed with supernatural. and agrees that jack is not adopted, and it’s important to his storyline that he isn’t. it’s so frustrating trying to explain to people that adoption isn’t about ‘what’s in their hearts’ or some other bullshit, because adoption isn’t about love, it’s a legal process that tfw don’t partake in. they never try to to erase his lineage or require it for there to be love. jack keeps his last name! jack has a picture of kelly at his bedside! jack gets the freedom to meet his first family, including lucifer! he gets to make his decisions about that even after he argues with cas about it! he is not adopted y’all just don’t know how else to describe their relationship because of the romanticization of adoption in ‘found family’ media and the fact that most non-adopted people have no idea what adoption actually is.
#also it’s not y’all’s fault that u don’t i really don’t want people to take offense to this#adoptees actually often face barriers when creating stories about adoption because people cannot handle the complexity lmao#like adoption has to go one of two ways and the options are perfect happy nuclear family or evil adoptive parents#who took someone’s baby/child and the mother has been looking for them for years#there’s hardly ever any in between#and now we have an influx of what i’ve seen coined the adoption adjacent trope#which is basically jack. serves all the emotional purposes of adoption with less complications bc#the first families are either dead or abusive and the ‘adoptee’ adjacent character#is old enough to have agency over their decisions#which alleviates some of the issues with consent that adoption has#and on top of that there’s no paperwork for whatever reason#it still serves the narrative purpose for adoption without actually telling an adoptees story#*adoptee’s#which is fascinating because we rarely get scenes like meeting first families and having complex relationships with our APs or first parent#and i genuinely think the only reason we get this with jack is BECAUSE he is not adopted#jack kline#anti adoptee jack kline#tfw2.0#dadstiel#adopted jack kline#adoptee jack kline#jack and his three dads#supernatural#dean winchester#castiel#sam winchester#also if i get any hate about this pls know im an adoptee and i will be loud abt ur hate. and if ur like whiskey why would u get hate???#bless ur fucking heart u have no idea what it’s like to be an adoptee who is anti adoption industry on the internet. i have genuinely gotten#more hate for being an adoptee than i have for being gay or trans. the things people say to us unwarranted r fucking abysmal

Regarding the whole "Fandom Is An Escape, so why should I have to care this much about misogyny/racism/ableism/transphobia/etc." thing. Idk about the rest of you, but it gets kind of hard for me to "escape" when I keep seeing people say the same vile things about characters who share aspects of my identity that I hear all the time in real life.
#gotta say: it doesn't make me feel any better getting ignored/disparaged on account of my gender irl and then seeing every fictional woman#also get ignored/disparaged when there is no material difference between her and popular male characters other than her gender#how do I escape from irl misogyny if y'all keep willfully ignoring and flinging gendered insults at 99% (<-lowball estimate) of#female characters? how do I put aside the ableism I face in real life when y'all discuss disabled/mentally ill characters in the most#absolutely out-of-pocket way? how do I forget about biphobia when the 'arguments' you make 'for fun' about bisexual characters#in fiction sound EXACTLY the same as the things people say about my bisexuality outside of the internet/fan culture?#and then obviously this gets compounded if you are trying to even simply EXIST in fandom as a poc or a trans person or an intersection of#any or all these varying identities/life experiences#like yes caring about fictional characters is not the same as caring about real people OBVIOUSLY I can't BELIEVE I have to keep clarifying#that. and at the same time!! because multiple things can be true at the same time!!!! engaging in behavior that enforces pre-ingrained#societal biases and prejudices!!!!!!!! does not help dismantle those biases and prejudices!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in a real-world way that DOES#involve caring about actual people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#it's also. interesting. when people go on & on about how some newest show about thin cis white (male) gays is So Important & Revolutionary#So We Must Do Everything To Keep It Relevant And Visible and then act this way about women/poc/trans people/disabled people/fat people#in media. so like. you DO agree that seeing a variety of life experiences represented in fiction is beneficial. you DO believe in the#value of depicting marginalized people. interesting that that only seems to apply to a VERY narrow and specific category of marginalization#(ugh remember when I talked about this and someone called me a straight person good times)

Sometimes i remember a comics moment i randomly came across somewhere, where Sam Wilson mentiones a musical and Steve Rodgers says he doesn't like musicals, to whitch Sam goes "Guess that means you really are straight" and even tho i don't care about Cap America or the Avengers, the moment stuck in me for that quote by Sam. And like....Sci, any ideas if straight men actually don't like musicals or is that bullshit?
actually i think i know more gay men who hate musicals than i know straight men who hate musicals. i've had a drag queen stop me point blank when i was about to sing a barbra streisand song, and i know so many gays who pointedly hate abba. so based on my experience i think the inverse is true. most of the straight men i know are kind of impartial about musicals, but gay men? hate.
my theory is that a lot of gay men don't want to fall into stereotypes, maybe. but thaaaaat's just a theory! a gay theory.
#sci speaks#i'm trying to understand the gays. they are a mystery to me.#i've seen a lot more toxic masculinity coming from gay men than i have from straight men.#i think it makes sense. they have less women in their lives. so they reckon with a lot more masculinity. more dick measuring.#also gay men have some of THE most unhealthy romantic relationships i've ever seen in my life.#this isn't a blanket statement on everyone but just from what i've seen. it's such a strange pattern i've observed.#lesbians? healthy. straights? usually healthy. gay men? universally a tire fire that makes me say “if you hate each other so much ??”#“why are you together??????????”#i have never met a cis gay mlm couple in real life that was healthy. every single one of them made my eyes widen in horror.#i want them to be healthy. please treat each other better.#the number of bitchy bitchy fights i've seen between mlm couples in public that make me so terrified#but i know mlm relationships in general are usually less... affectionate than wlw relationships. even and especially friendships.#just an observation.#i hate to say that there is a definite difference between amab vs afab experiences when it comes to relationship dynamics but.#of course there is. there is. as much as i want to say gender and sex do not matter. it really does.#it makes a difference. it does.#which is kind of why i'm glad i was born in the body i was. when people say “trans means you feel you were born in the wrong body”#im like.. i don't think that's true. i don't think that's true for me.#i wouldn't be me if i wasn't born the way i was. and i want to be me. but i'm a boy. i'm a boy but in the body that i have.#my body is still a boy's body. because i live in here.#sorry this went off on a tangent.#but yeah i know my brain would be different if i was amab. and i don't want all those other issues.#i think the only reason i'm so peaceful and serene is because i'm afab. and afabulous.#i see cis guys and im like.. yeah i don't want what you got.#once again! lucky to be me! i'm lucky. im lucky i have a vargooba. thank fuck for that!#couldve been so much worse off. could've been born with a dick and would be fighting for my life right now.

i think it's time to take a page from the james flint gay agenda manifesto; stop trying to convince people that the queers are not a danger to society, and become a menace to civilisation instead. the real queer agenda should be to overthrow any and all social systems. work in tandem with other marginalised groups and set heteropatriarchy on fire. become ungovernable, ignore social norms, uplift new voices. assimilation should not have ever been the goal. queer people are different. difference is good. the real enemy is conformity. conformity is responsible for every man made horror in history. war, poverty, hate crimes, slavery, genocide, they are all made possible by the existence and desirability of a status quo. remove the desirability of normalcy and you remove the foundation for all systems of suffering. systems work because a majority of people have decided it was in their best interest to uphold them. but is it really? remove the desirability of normalcy and you have no grounds for competition. keep quiet out of fear that the system will decide you are abnormal next, and you are making sure it will. fuck civilisation, fuck normalcy, fuck the status quo.
#rain posts#sorry watching black sails has enraged me#seeing gay people and women become outwardly transphobic#because they've convinced themselves that trans people are the problem#because they're so scared of society turning on them/relieved that the heat is off them for once#that they'll do anything to keep their spot on the normal people hall of fame#is so fucking heartbreaking#you fucking idiots are only succeeding in making sure that people remain categorised#that a hierarchy perseveres between normal and abnormal people#that inequality remains the foundation for civilisation#if you are anything other than a cis gendered heterosexual wealthy abled white western man#then society is not and will never be your friend#it's so fucking baffling that such a small group of people has managed to create an atmosphere of fear worldwide#where instead of saying fuck that we've all decided that we needed to find any resemblance we have to that tiny group of people#(being white or cis or male or straight etc)#and beg to be included based on that one similarity#i'm so fucking tired of normalcy i'm so fucking tired of quiet acceptance#be fucking weird. be appreciative of other people's weirdness. refuse to put anyone into categories#categories lead to classification and hierarchy#the most powerful weapon we have is non conformity#we all possess it. so fucking use it.#and at the very least (if you're scared for yourself) make sure other people's right to non conformity is protected and uplifted

Another personal take on today's Neo-liberalism-- how IT is the OTHER SIDE OF THE SAME COIN AS ALT-RIGHT WINGERS (ya know how "new age spirituality" is now becoming synonymous with CULTURAL APPROPRIATION and ABUSE APOLOGISM and NO ONE IS BATTING AN EYE ABOUT IT)....
Just saw a post from a "trans person" about how it's "ableism" to call out an abusive person who is IN THE HIGHER SPECTRUM OF NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER because "being a narcissist is a mental disorder"... are you fucking kidding me???
(fyi, mirroring is a form of MALEVOLENT manipulation - mirroring is something that a lot of ABUSIVE people in the HIGHER SPECTRUM OF NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER DO TO HARM OTHERS).
And I just smdh.... reactive liberalism will excuse anything these days.
...reminds me of American/"Western" kids who are groomed to think being "trans" is about ASSIMILATING to the hetero-normative PERSPECTIVE AND EXPECTATIONS of GENDER EXPRESSION.
it's the same type of oppressive heteronormativity???? (this is why I don't vibe with folks who say shit like "the youth today are kinder" -- NO THEY ARE NOT. they've become more SKILLED at mimicking societal conventions).
OPPRESSION TODAY HAS BECOME MORE INSIDIOUS.
Y'all really need to stop thinking in BINARY.
Just because someone's gay, doesn't mean they can't be racist, or classist, or oppressive??? Just like, just because someone adheres to the identity politics of "latinidad" or any other "non-white" identity doesn't mean they're "progressive"????
(I used to run decolonizeyourself.tumblr.com and decolonizeyourselfarchive.tumblr.com)
....Just because some "westerner" identifies as "trans" doesn't mean they know shit-all about "ableism"!
Please stop throwing around the word "ableism" whenever folks talk about ABUSE that are coming from a person with NPD.
#ya know how autism is a spectrum#NPD is also a spectrum#except there have been over 50+ years of studies on NPD also as a CULTURAL PHENOMENA#it is a direct PSYCHOLOGICAL “result” of coloniality#and when people think it's “ableist” to IDENTIFY an abusive person's behavior as “narcissistic” - YALL essentially are DEFENDING ABUSE!#systemic abuse!!!!#I was a behavior technician before#the difference between those who need ASSISTANCE in the BASIC function of societal interactions VS. those in the “higher function” spectrum#NOT the same as NPD where those in the “higher spectrum” are more likely to be MALEVOLENT#it is NOT ableism to call out an abusive person for being NARCISSISTIC#reminds me of a friend who used to say “kids today are BETTER PEOPLE than KIDS in the past”#and I was like MY MOM WAS BORN IN 1944 AND MY DAD in 1933 AND THEY never adhered to heteronormativity#ive met YOUNG KIDS TODAY in their early 20s who are all about ~lgbt~ but would perpetuate HETERONORMATIVITY#when my mom was working at a fried chicken place at AGE 60 a bunch of 12 year old Latina kids came in twice to make fun of her accent#and how “dirty” she was.... so are any of you understanding that AGE AND GENERATION DO NOT DICTATE SOMEONE'S “bigotry”????#my mom and dad were actual “progressives” at age 60-90 than most American kids who CLAIM TO BE LIBERAL at age 20????#like even as a 30+ adult I have had LATINAS in their 20s w/ gay and trans friends who would be RACIST AND CLASSIST AND MISOGYNISTIC TO ME?

I am begging on my knees for yall to stop telling misogynistic cis women that they're trans because they're obsessed with gay men. the tumblrinas who kill off the canon female love interest just to get her out of the way are not writing gay fic because they're unknowingly men, they're doing it because they hate women and don't see them as real people. I'm going to bite someone.

Being trans but stealth for over four years has its funny and infuriating moments. I recognize the privilege that I have passing in places that aren’t trans-friendly at all.
1) the “I got my top surgery at Claire’s” but replace it with the crappy minimum wage job you had in high school or undergrad. I want to make this joke with my friends who are considering it. I was with a friend this weekend and said balls and I said “I got my bottom surgery done at *crappy fast food restaurant*” and they were confused
2) People thinking being called cisgender is a slur. It’s not, end of discussion. I try not to get heated to protect myself
3) I take testosterone gel and I was applying it on my shoulders in front of my friend. They didn’t question it whatsoever
4) I post a lot of trans stuff on my main account where I have a few IRLs, and my friend will like and/or reblog from me
5) I mentioned something about raising (non biological kids) one day and my friend was like “you’re not going to need to worry about that” completely erasing the existence of gay trans men, also assigned bottom by them
6) I get asked a lot about what I think about trans people in sports from the perspective of a gay men, not knowing that I am a trans person in sports.

I'm so fucking pissed rn at usamericans, I need y'all to shut the fuck up forever. The queer artist Barbara Butch has received at ton of murder and rape threats because of the opening ceremony. The USAmericans on her social media, in response to a statement from her lawyer, are drowning her comments with "you deserve it for insulting christianity and the Gay Testament thing you pulled".
This is terrorist behavior. Someone did something about your religion you didn't like so you wish harm upon them, that's terrorism. When the terrorist attacks happened in France, my father, a christian, said to us that he feared the christian extremists more than anything. French people were killed for mocking muslim extremists, and my father told us to fear the christian extremists, who don't like not being the ones in the spotlight. And I knew he was not wrong. France is a country with a christian culture after all (a country being secular doesn't mean it erased centuries of influence), we know well how violent christianity can be.
You see, France is "the first daughter of the Church", because of its particular history with christianity. No other country has the same connection to christianity as France has. This is because catholicism and the Vatican were only capable to expand their power because of a deal made with Pepin Le Bref, the emperor Charlemagne's father. Long story short, the French monarchy was essential to the Church, the Church was essential to the French monarchy. And the French monarchy are oppressors, so the Church also is. So much blood was spilled in the name of the Church (the massacre of the Saint-Barthélemy). Missions, when the Church would send priests with knights to kill people who weren't christians "correctly" (missions aren't a modern thing, they existed before America. And that's why we hate them in France). If you criticize the Church, you would go to jail. We fought for the right to criticize and mock the Church, you cannot take that away from us.
Leonardo Da Vinci who painted La Cena was a gay man who used his queer lover as a model for religious figures.
Molière, famous french playwriter, mocked and criticized christianity.
French people beheaded statues of Christian figures during the Révolution of 1789.
Parisians executed Christian priests during the Commune of Paris. After killing civilians in masses, the French President build le Sacré-Coeur, a basilica to ask the christian god for forgiveness for the blood he spilled. Not the people, for who he had no mercy, but God. He was the last French President to speak about God in his speeches, because of how disgusted French people were.
The people are the right to criticize and mock religion, it's called the right to blaspheme. Especially the people who have suffered from it. But also, the people have the right to make reference to other artistic works. It's not "insulting" to do so.
It's our fucking country, our fucking culture, our fucking history, get the fuck out of it.
Especially when it was actually a reference to another painting, about the Greek gods.

thinking hard about relationships where gender really never factored into the equation at all in its conception but the roles have become something fun to play at fulfilling, or some sort of ritualistic performance done out of devotion and dedication.. "i'll be your man if you'll be my woman"... "i wish you were a girl"... the deep seated craving for a framework that inextricably links you to one another even if and especially if you would be a nontraditional fit.. GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY 😭
