The first days of Dr. Lewandowski and the SCP-049 subject were formal, protocol-driven. Lewandowski conducted standard interview sessions in an attempt to understand the motives and nature of his subject. The subject was cool and detached.

She believed that a person becomes wounded, after being treated unfairly or cruelly, by similarly wounded people. If a person does not work on their wound, it will not heal, because there are many wounded people in the world that will scratch that wound, making it bigger. And this pain and resentment, like a virus or rot, infects his soul completely, making the person the same as the one who once inflicted the wound. Later that person carries this pain and resentment further, taking it out on others, making more infected. It is an endless cycle that cannot be eradicated completely, but can be minimized. Some can handle it, and some need help. You have to want help, you have to understand the situation and try to solve it too, because no one can help you better than you can help yourself, and that's what Snezka had to go through.

She thought these thoughts were strange, but after so many years, there was a creature that literally reflected her thoughts, with whom you can share this theory, and perhaps get understanding.

She saw herself in him, only a better version of herself, but with the same mental problems.

— How can that be!? He's just an abnormal object, why can't I stop thinking about him!? I can't stop thinking about him, his words. Maybe it's my soft nature, too compassionate, empathic, or maybe it's his anomalous action?

He told her more about the fever, about the treatment, they began to have deep dialogues about life and death, about philosophy, about society, SCP-049 even began to tell stories from his own life. Lewandowski also told him about her life, but she liked to listen to him more.

She found comfort in his monologues about the world, about death, about eternity, his stories about medicine. Her mind resisted, but her heart could no longer deny it: she felt something more than professional interest in him. It was a dangerous game, bordering on insanity. She knew it, but she couldn't stop. Lewandowski realized that her feelings were illogical, unacceptable, but they were there. Her greatest fear was that the Foundation would suspect something and restrict her access to him, which unfortunately happened...

End of Calm

There has been a massive failure of the entire Foundation security system in Area 19, as well as a power failure. Security protocol, alarms, and warnings went off with a delay with most of the dangerous objects wreaking havoc in the Foundation. The alleged culprit of the SCP-“”" incident. Likely had accomplices, an investigation is underway.

During the incident, a large number of soldiers and staff died. There was a leak of several objects to freedom. The lists of dead and missing were equal. Dr. Snezana Lewandowski and SCP-049 were also listed as missing, among dozens of personnel and facilities.

The SCP Foundation, having suffered loss and damage, is doing its best to restore order after the chaos, but the world is no longer safe as before.

3. Conversations between Lewandowski and SCP-049

Interviewee: SCP-049

[START RECORDING]

Dr. Lewandowski: Good afternoon, SCP-049. I am your psychologist, Dr. Snezhana Lewandowski. It's a pleasure to meet you!

SCP-049: Greetings, doctor, I hope we can work together.

Dr. Lewandowski: I think so! So, how are you feeling today?

SCP-049: (pause) I feel... A burden. A burden that is hard to describe in words. Every day I see suffering, and it depresses me.

Dr. Lewandowski: Are you talking about human suffering? About those whom you refer to as sick people?

SCP-049: Yes. The weathering is not just a physical condition. This world, this wretched piece of the universe, is forever doomed to suffer. (Irritated) Mortals, powerless over their own weaknesses, forever seek salvation in false doctrines and vain hopes. They build cities out of flimsy material, create weapons that can destroy themselves, and cling to life without realizing its true nature. I see their pain, their despair, feel their fear of the inevitable. And I know I can help them. But they don't understand. They fear me! They reject my mercy! They call me a monster, a monstrosity! I see them trying to stop me, lock me up, impose their rules. But can you limit what is beyond their comprehension? Can one defeat that which is eternal? Their attempts are futile. I will always exist. Let them resist, let them fear. It only confirms their blindness.

(A moment's silence)

Dr. Lewandowski: (Sigh)...Have you ever thought about why this “fever” bothers you so much? What exactly causes you to feel so strongly about it?

SCP-049: (sighs) I have witnessed a lot of suffering. I have seen people lose hope, I have seen them fall victim to their weakness. This makes me want to help, but sometimes I feel that my efforts are futile.

Dr. Lewandowski: Do you feel that your help is really effective? Or is there any doubt about your methods?

SCP-049: (with some irritation) My methods are the only way to free people from their suffering! I cannot afford to doubt my vocation. But sometimes... It catches up with me.

Dr. Lewandowski: It is normal to have doubts. Many people face similar feelings. What do you do to deal with these emotions?

SCP-049: I continue my work. I focus on my goals.

Dr. Lewandowski: Maybe you should take time to reflect on yourself and your feelings. It may help you better understand your motivation and calm your mind.

SCP-049: I don't think so, but... You may be right. I worry that if I stop, the darkness around me will consume everything.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Pause)...How I understand that. Sometimes you have to take a step back to see the big picture. It doesn't mean you stop fighting the disease. It can only make you stronger.

SCP-049: Perhaps...

Dr. Lewandowski: This is an important step. And remember, you are not alone in your experience. I'm here to help you make sense of it.

(Minute's silence)

SCP-049: I've seen nations rise and fall, empires born of dust and turned to stone, ideas ignite people's hearts and turn to ash. (Pause). I realized that existence is a perpetual cycle of birth and death, a constant struggle for survival. People are so hungry for meaning, but it eludes them.

Dr. Lewandowski: Isn't this struggle, this longing for meaning, the very essence of being?

SCP-049: (With sadness in his voice) Meaning... (Pause) It wanders like a ghost through the labyrinths of our consciousness. We search for it in religion, in science, in art, but it eludes us, leaving only emptiness.

Dr. Lewandowski: But don't you see, Doctor? You create your own meaning by helping people to get rid of the disease. You believe in what you're doing, Doctor. You believe it's necessary.

SCP-049: Faith... (Pause) This is another one of those ghosts that haunt us. I see things that others do not see, and it pains me. It pains me to see the suffering that is inevitable for all living things.

Dr. Lewandowski: And you're trying to help, Doctor...

SCP-049: (Interrupting) We are but pawns in the hands of fate. Our actions are insignificant in comparison to eternity.

Dr. Lewandowski: Don't say that, Doctor. You are not a pawn. You are the creator of your own destiny. And I believe you will find your path, your meaning.

SCP-049: (Heavy sigh) But not in this place, not here, not now.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Pause) You know Doctor... I'd like to share with you a thought that has been on my mind since I was a child.

SCP-049: What is it that's bothering you?

(Took several books out of her bag and placed a stack on the table next to the subject)

SCP-049: (Pause) I'm not sure. My life has been devoted to fighting the windfall, and I haven't given much thought to such feelings. But... sometimes I feel warm when I talk to you. (turns away)

Dr. Lewandowski: I'm glad to see your condition has improved markedly. I feel warm when we talk, too. (Pause) You are an unusually interesting conversationalist.

SCP-049: (surprised) Interesting? I've always thought of myself as rather... odd. But it's nice to hear you say that. You don't hear that very often in this place, in general... I've never heard it from you.

Dr. Lewandowski: Weird people can be very interesting! We all have our unique qualities. For example, your view of the world is something special, not strange. By the way, have you read that novel?

SCP-049: The Master and Margarita? Yes, an interesting work about the power of love and the struggle against darkness.

Dr. Lewandowski: I think there are so many layers and philosophical themes there. You know, you sound like the Master (Laughs).

SCP-049: Hmm... There's something, maybe, and you remind me of Marguerite.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Laughs) That's probably true. Unfortunately, I have to go. Don't forget, you deserve to be understood. And I'm here to help you do just that.

Dr. Lewandowski: Good afternoon Doctor, I would like to know what your thoughts have been occupied with lately?

SCP-049: Greetings. (Pause) Relatively recently, I've been thinking about the nature of human cruelty.

Dr. Lewandowski: Cruelty... (Pause) Unfortunately, it permeates every facet of existence, like a shadow that follows the light.

SCP-049: Yes. (Sighs) I watch people, and it makes me sad how capable they are of terrible things. There is a darkness lurking in their hearts that sometimes overshadows even the brightest impulses.

Dr. Lewandowski: As it happens, humanity is a paradox. On the one hand, it creates beautiful works of art, science and culture, and on the other hand, it is capable of ruthless acts of violence and hatred.

SCP-049: Exactly. I see how people can be kind and compassionate, but at the same time they easily cross the line into becoming instruments of destruction. It causes me deep sadness and bewilderment.

Dr. Lewandowski: I share your feelings and support your thoughts, Doctor.

SCP-049: It is most gratifying to know that, Dr. Lewandowski. My mission is to rid mankind of disease. At times I am at a loss as to what to do about this inner cruelty? How do you heal a society that is tearing itself apart?

Dr. Lewandowski: You see, many of these atrocities come from fear, ignorance and hatred. Or perhaps they were mentally wounded once, and that wound, without proper treatment, began to fester, infecting the whole mind and soul.

SCP-049: (Interested) I like the way you think. Abuse is not just physical violence. It is also words that hurt, betrayals and indifference to the suffering of others. In each of these acts I see a reflection of the disease.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Sigh) Sadly, dreams of a world where humanity can overcome its cruelty and learn to love are utopian.

SCP-049: I'm not so sure about that. It's certainly not an easy task, the whole world and one me, the road to healing is long and thorny. But the more I work at it, the closer that peace comes.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Pause) Perhaps someday people will realize that cruelty is not part of their true nature. Perhaps they will learn to see in each other a reflection of themselves and learn to care for those who suffer. Perhaps... (Pause) But sometimes you get the idea that some people are so rotten in their souls that treatment will be useless, and the only thing left to do is to rid the world of that person so they don't hurt others. This is not humane, but in such a case it is possible to make sure that this person stays alive but is not capable of hurting others.

SCP-049: (Surprised) Your thoughts make sense. We've had a rather pleasant dialog. I've never had such an in-depth discussion with anyone else. I feel much better.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Smiling) That's wonderful, Doctor, I confess I don't often have someone to talk to about this either.

SCP-049: (Sighs) Unfortunately, there aren't many... (Pause) I do recall one. Yes, it was a time when I was out in the wild, searching for rare herbs and plants in the forest. No people and just the sounds of nature. And then I came to a field, a field of lavender. (Sighs) It's... It was a magical feeling. The field was filled with bright colors and the air was full of a light, slightly spicy aroma. I felt like I was in another world, away from my worries. I walked slowly among the flowers, watching the bees as they worked to gather nectar. The bees are not aware of the suffering that humans are experiencing, they are just doing their job, benefiting the world around them. It made me think: maybe that's what humanity needs - the simple pursuit of the good. (Pause) The whole day I was there. It was wonderful. I dream of being in that moment again one day.

Dr. Lewandowski: That's... It's a wonderful memory, very beautiful.

SCP-049: Yes... It's beautiful. You know, I feel a little better.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Smiling) That's wonderful to hear. Try to remember something else, good thoughts can smooth out your condition within these walls.

SCP-049: (Surprised) It's for me?! What a wonderful gift, lavender really calms me down.

Dr. Lewandowski: I'm glad the gift is useful to you. I would have brought you something else, but unfortunately the Foundation has only authorized this one so far.

SCP-049: I am honored by such attention, thank you, Dr..... Snezka. (Pause) ...How did I not notice that... Your last name is...

Dr. Lewandowski: (Interested) Hmm?

SCP-049: Lewandowski, that last name comes from the Old Polish word levanda, which means lavender. What a wonderful coincidence, my favorite plant.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Smiles) Yes, that's right, my favorite too by the way. I am amazed at your knowledge, Doctor!

SCP-049: It is a pleasure to be appreciated and understood by you. I must admit, you are not out of my mind.

Dr. Lewandowski: (Embarrassed) Oh... You know, it's mutual. Doctors aren't supposed to have favorites, but I have to admit...(Pause) You're my favorite patient.

After what has seemed like months of mindlessly picking up whatever job you stumbled across in the paper, you finally landed a secretary spot that paid more than the other shit jobs that only kept you a few months before their companies dissolved.

This spot was different as it was in advertising for a big record company. You’ve worked in advertising before but for a shit vacuum company that quickly went bankrupt because of issues regulating heat. It blew up and burnt someone’s house down. Messy way to go down.

You filed into the busy lobby of the New York office building, countless people clocking into whatever miscellaneous job they had.

You glance down at the ad read in the paper that you clutch tightly in your hand. Floor 17.

Like sardines, you squeeze into an elevator that shoots you and about ten other people up.

Eventually, you reach your floor and creep up to the front desk.

APPLE RECORDS

is what’s plastered on it. You introduce yourself to the woman sitting in front of her loud typewriter, explaining you��re the new hire and hope you could be guided on where to go. Her smile is friendly enough during your simple conversation. She nods and stands up from her seat, gesturing to you to walk with her.

Casual conversation grows between the two of you as she points out where everything is on the floor.

“Here is public relations, next to them you’ll find our accounting and finance, as well as data analytics. Oh and right down that hall is Creativity and Visuals.”

Her pace slows as she stops in front of a light wood door. On it, a gold plaque shines under the fluorescent lights. You squint to read the lettering.

Advertising Director

J. P. MCCARTNEY

“This is you!” She says cheerfully as she pushes the door open.

Inside, there’s a small waiting room and an empty, L-shaped desk facing outwards into the room in the further left corner. You assume that would be yours.

A set of 4 chairs line up along the wall adjacent to the desk. A taller potted plant is placed in another corner and a dull modern artwork hangs on the wall above the chairs.

There's another door on the other wall. This one is deeper in its shade of wood but still adornes the same gold plaque.

Large windows cover the wall behind the desk, casting a bright morning light into the waiting room.

“You should be all set up in here.” The receptionist says as she strolls over to the desk. You glance around at the items on it. A black typewriter (similar to hers) sits heavy in the middle alongside a notepad, a cup of pens and a filing cabinet.

You thank you and exchange pleasantries as you get comfortable in your new desk, setting your stuff down and pulling out the chair.

She opens the door to the hall but lingers in the doorway, hesitant. “Uh-“

You glance up, “Yes?”

“Mr. McCartney is-“ she pauses and looks around, seemingly looking for the right word as if it’ll pop up in the waiting room. “…difficult.” she lands on.

You raise an eyebrow and sit down in the chair.

“Keep a good head on your shoulders. Just do what he says.”

Her mouth stays open like she has more to say, but she’s hesitant once again. Her lips close as she decides against whatever she was thinking and gently pats the door frame, giving you a small smile before closing the door behind her.

Strange. You take note of this… warning?

You blink at the empty space around you. It’s very quiet.

You pull out a few of your personal belongings: a framed picture, a fountain pen, and a little cat figurine. It looks like your own cat, grey and stripped.

The warning the receptionist gave hangs heavy on your mind, leaving a thick blanket of anxiety over you. You knew you’d have to introduce yourself to your new boss so you swallow the score lump in your throat and walk over to the mahogany door.

Face to face with the name plate,

MCCARTNEY

you reread.

You roll three low knocks onto the door, the sound being jarring in the painfully quiet waiting room.

A few seconds go by and you hear the quiet shifting of papers and the creaking of a chair beyond the door.

“Come on in,” a voice echoed. The accent caught you off guard at first, however it was not unusual in the mixing-pot that was New York. But still, surprising.

You grabbed the cold handle and pushed the door open. You took in the space around you as you stepped in.

The office space was simple. Large windows stretch from ceiling to floor on one wall, allowing large streams of morning light to pool inside the office.

On the wall Adjacent to the windows, there were framed photos of older advertising posters and LP’s, framed as well.

In the middle of the room sat a large, heavy dark wood desk with two leather seats placed in front of it.

On the desk sat another large typewriter. His was dark green and shiny, much more expensive looking. A desk lamp shined over the scattered papers he was shuffling through.

And behind the desk, sat Mr. McCartney. He was younger than what you had expected, hair still dark in color.

But you could tell he was still quite a bit older than you, subtle lines that rippled down from his cheeks was the only indicator of his age. You guessed around 15 years older — in his mid or late 30’s.

He sat tense in his large leather office chair, eyes never leaving the papers. He wore a simple black suit jacket, and a smooth white dress shirt with some sort-of patterned tie. He looked very put together.

You gulped.

“Good morning sir. I’m you’re new secretary, Y/N. I’m sure you’re already aware.” You say as confidently as possible, your voice bouncing off the quiet walls of the room.

Finally, he looks up from the papers andblinks at you. His eyes were soft and downturned, small crow-feet lines pull at the corners of them. He has long (almost feminine) eyelashes and highly arched eyebrows. His hair was a dark brunette, longer in style with short bangs and some length at the back of his neck.

Mr. McCartney’s eyes raked over you. Slowly, from head to toe. Your legs in the sheer black tights. A dress that fell just above the knee. Hair pulled back into a bun.

He gave a small nod, “G’ morning, then.” was all he said in return. His eyes snapped away from you and back onto the papers.

You blinked. Well, alright.

Awkwardly, you shuffled out of the office and back to your desk, tightly shutting the door behind you.

The day drags on, morning soon becoming midday. You find yourself doing miscellaneous tasks that Mr. McCartney asks you to do. Call this place or that person, schedule a meeting for this time, write down notes from these papers.

Around 11:30, the door to the waiting room opens and a man steps in. He looked to be around Mr. McCartney’s age, maybe a year or two older.

He was tall and fashioned a similar look to Mr. McCartney’s. His dress shirt and pants were brown however. He wore round, thin framed glasses and had shorter, wavy, light brown hair.

He held a large black portfolio tucked tightly under his arm and a mess of papers pressed to his chest.

The man blinked in surprise at you sitting at the desk in the waiting room. He snorted out a laugh.

“That didn’t take long.” He huffed under his breath, giving you a quick once over.

“Here to see Mr. McCartney, sir?” You ask politely, looking up at him.

“You can save it sweetheart, I’ll be two minutes.” the man said with a sly grin.

“John’s fine by the way. My job’s not nearly important enough to be called ‘sir’.” He laughed out the last part of the sentence before tugging the darker door open.

“Paul! How are ya!” Was all you heard before the door shut behind John.

Paul. You thought on the name. You’d doubt you’d get familiar enough with ‘Paul’ to ever call him that. But it was good to know since he didn’t even introduce himself.

You huff and fall back into the back of your chair, crossing your arms. What dicks they all seem to be here.

About 25 minutes passed before you were called into the office. You cracked the door open and peaked your head in.

John was stood over the desk, drawings spread across it. Paul sat relaxed into his large leather seat behind the desk.

“Yes?” You ask.

“Lunch please.” Paul said blankly, holding out a small piece of paper. A Post-It.

You felt your eye twitch at the impoliteness. But who were you to argue? This was your job after all. Simple as it was.

You strolled up and took the paper from his fingers. John’s eyes dragged over you once again, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

You hold back a gag. God. men.

Nonetheless, you obliged and rang in an order of sandwiches from a bistro down the street so they’d be ready by the time you’d walked there. You snagged your purse and rushed out of the building.

You hadn’t been gone for more than 15 minutes, returning with two large brown bags of food. You pushed the dark door open and to your surprise, two more men had joined Paul and John. They all chatted loudly, strings of fluffy smoke surrounded them.

“You weren’t lyin’, John.” One said as you walked in, giving you the same eyes that John had earlier.

You gave an uncertain smile. The air felt thick.

Being the only woman in a room full of men like this feels like being a sheep circled by wolves.

You curled in on yourself slightly, refusing to make eye contact.

Gently, you place the bags down on Paul’s desk before hurriedly walking towards the door.

“Ah-!” Paul calls after you just as you tug on the handle. Ah fuck. You close your eyes and take a deep breath.

“Yes?” You say and plaster on the most pleasant smile you can muster.

“You see a room full of men, don’t you?” He says with that same blank tone. His eyes bore into you.

Your mouth goes dry — what does that even mean? Obviously you sees them.

The silence trickles on.

“Coffee.. jesus-“ he sighs and puts out his cigarette.

You don’t move.

“Coffee! Get the men coffee!” Paul lets out an annoyed laugh and throws his hands up a little, looking at his coworkers who all chuckle.

You nod, the smile quickly dropping from your face as you rush to the kitchenette. You wanted to disappear. Wanted a hole to open up under you and swallow you whole. If you’d known your boss would be a total asshole you wouldn’t have taken the job.

But alas, bills needed a-payin’.

A few minutes later, you return with four mugs. Your past waitress experience coming in handy. You place the mugs on the dark wood desk, still not making any eye contact with any of the four men that blow smoke around you.

“Thanks.” Paul grumbles out, as if it hurt him to be kind.

The shortest of them lets out a laugh and rolls his eyes. He has a larger nose and a thick mustache spread across his top lip.

“God Paul, it wouldn’t kill ya to be nice to the thing” He says and picks up a mug, eyeing you as he sipped it.

The one who appeared to be only a few years younger than the other three followed in suit, taking a generous swig of the coffee. “Rich is right.” He says simply.

He sucks a deep breath through his sharp teeth, “At least this one knows how to keep coffee hot!”

They all erupt in laughter; all besides Paul. His eyes still dig into you. You return the gaze, only for a second.

Something lingers behind his eyes. Something expectant; hungry, one could argue.

A chill creeps up the low of your back before you slip out of the office.

If by any chance you or someone you know are thinking about joining in on the challenge… no one can stop you but I implore you as someone who makes art, as someone with friends in an often-exploited creative industry, as someone who lives in late stage capitalism alongside you and has seen this play out before: proceed with caution.

Read the fine print on that form. There is NO guarantee of an internship, much less a job at the end of it. I haven't gone further than this form, but if anyone reading this does, and if there's no written agreement that your work won't be used without credit to you + payment for services rendered - RUN.

This is a common corporate tactic to get free labor out of people. I'm not saying this is necessarily what’s happening; for all we know this was done as a completely innocent move to drum up some fan engagement and as a genuine search for talent for their analytics team. WHO KNOWS. But I can't ignore that I’ve seen this situation play out again and again, at every scale.

Job interviews, when they ask you how YOU think they should improve their systems, how YOU would solve their problems? When they require that you do some problem-solving for them, and it goes beyond a simple task? That’s a free consultation you’re giving them, that's free work you or someone else should be getting paid for.

When big streamers/influencers ask their fans to join in on a fan art contest to choose their new pfp/banner? That’s hundreds, possibly thousands of pieces of free art they never would’ve gotten otherwise. They could've gone to the trouble of paying someone in-house to do it, hiring someone for that position, commissioning a professional for a piece. It's free work from their dedicated fans.

In this case, Utah HC is asking fans to not only choose/provide their own dataset, but to do a complex analysis on it AND do the work of visual and verbal communication to senior management, who likely do not have a deeper grasp of the concepts and will need it simplified. The stipulation that you will present your work could be ANYTHING!! The "five page deliverable" is already bananas to me, having dipped my toe into what analytics is and how complex the fun ones are. Condensing it all is WORK. The presentation portion may include speaking time and answering questions; the groundwork for doing this effectively may include producing data visualisations, making spreadsheets, time consuming write-ups. Maths and science communication is hard. It is WORK. They are asking for free labor.

Many have already called it out, but it's still gaining traction via retweets from big accounts uncritically sharing it. I found out through the official Puckpedia account. Jack Han called it out pretty eloquently on twitter and on his substack:

I find it both hilarious and sad that you outsource media analysis (i.e., interaction with and interpretation of art, an inherently human act) to a machine. Say what you will about antis or haters, but at least their opinions and justifications for holding those opinions stand on their own two feet, whether they are good or well-rounded justifications or not.

Counterpoint: writing is art. Expressing one's interpretation of art is also art, an extended phenotype of the artistic work itself. Congratulations, you've cheapened both the art of writing, the art of expressing one's own analytical conclusions, and by extension, you've cheapened the media itself.

I think it's also incredibly telling that while you're too proud of the initial positive reception you got from fans to admit what you're doing is wrong, the fact that you received backlash when people found out you're actually outsourcing your essay writing to chatgpt has made you de-emphasize the cutesy "bot" persona as of late.

I have no patience for you AI bros (even if you're a woman or enby, if you see using chatgpt to write essays as an appropriate form of artistic engagement, you're an AI bro), but I can only implore that you all wake up one day to how you're cynically contributing to the watering-down of human expression.

I see you’re having some big feelings. What were you hoping to achieve when you typed this out and sent it to a stranger on the internet? Could some of this visceral reaction come from a place of fear? I get it — AI’s rapid rise to prominence can feel scary, especially when it feels like a threat to human creativity and expression. Under capitalism, AI usage has definitely resulted in exploitation and job cuts, which is a valid concern. But is this due to the technology itself? Or the conditions in which it exists? What are some ways we can productively address these issues? It seems like you have chosen to boycott AI usage. That’s perfectly understandable! I just wonder if there are more effective ways to mitigate the effects of AI, which seems to be the heart of what we’re both concerned with.

As condescending and accusatory as your ask is, I still think the AI discussion is important and worth having. So here we go.

The question of whether AI should exist has already been decided. It’s here to stay. Instead, perhaps we can focus our time and energy into advocating for policies which promote energy-efficient cooling systems for AI data centers and ensure fair compensation for artists and academics who have had their work used without their consent in data training. In addition, we should promote user-trained, voluntarily sourced AI wherever possible.

Regarding the argument that AI usage is “watering human expression”? I simply disagree. Humans are innately smarter in ways machines never will be. Human creativity is resilient, and not nearly as fragile as anti-AI alarmists believe. In a perfect, non-capitalist world, if machines can ethically replace jobs, they should. If this leads to less jobs than people, then people should not have to work to eat. And artists shouldn’t have to create to survive. (Oops, my communism is showing). Until then, why not aim as close to that reality as possible?

This is literally a silly little side blog about demon furries in Hell. I refuse to spend more than a couple of hours a week on it, so I’m going to outsource robot tasks to the damn robot. I don’t think human expression is fragile enough to be eroded by me asking a computer program to organize my rambling into sub-headers. Especially since the reason I started using Crushbot is because I was involuntarily using AI almost every time I used Google to check a source or refresh my memory on academic terminology so I might as well use AI that actually works well 🙄
