“Molo mntwana.” (hi baby) Shuri greeted as she walked into your shared bedroom where she found you in your bathroom getting ready for your date.
You smiled at her in the mirror as you finished lining your lips and applied a coat of gloss. “How was your day?” The princess questioned as she stood behind you placing kisses on your neck with her hands trailing up and down your sides her fingers following this lines of your stretch marks.
“boring. i cleaned, washed my hair, cleaned some more, blow dried my hair, and you get where i’m going from here.” More kisses were placed from behind your ear all the way to your collarbone. “We’re gonna miss our reservations,” you whispered as you felt your girlfriends hands run down to your butt grabbing at it and pushing up against you slightly.
“They can wait for the Queen.” She
mumbles as she turns you around connecting her lips to yours hastily as her hands trailed to the front of your body and slipped into the front of your skirt. Her fingers teasingly running up and down your panties.
Just before Shuri could go any farther there was a knock on the door. Your girlfriend with a slight smirk on her face pulled away as she pulled her hand out of your skirt, but not before grabbing at your love handles and pulling you in for a deeper kiss.
“Might need to fix.. around here.” Shuri grinned as she pointed around her lips in reference to your own.

Who then? || B.P
Requested by Anon - Hey :) can I request a T’Challa x reader fic where Shuri constantly tells T’Challa to act on his feelings for reader but he doesn’t think she loves him even tho Shuri tells him all the time she does. Takes her going out with someone else for him to act fear of losing her and jealousy. Characters – Reader x T’Challa Word Count – 588
‘My king.’ Shuri said as T’Challa entered her lab. ‘Stop it.’ He said, and they done their handshake, and Shuri led him over to the new technology but he wasn’t listening. ‘If your looking for Y/N, she’s in her room.’ Shuri said, then his head snapped towards her. ‘Why?’ He asked worry flooding his face. ‘She is going out tonight.’ Shuri told him, his face feels slightly. ‘With who?’ He asked, Shuri shrugged her shoulders. ‘Does it look like I know?’ Shuri responded, he looked at before saying bye and making his way over to you.
‘Where are you going.’ A voice said behind you, you jumped and turned around. ‘Jeez. I’m gonna tell Shuri to add a bell to your necklace or something.’ You said as you pressed a hand to your chest, the corner of his lips turned upwards. ‘I’m going on a date.’ You told him, answering the previous question. You turned back as you focussed on the bag in front of you. You stood taller and walked over to your mirror and double checked your outfits, catching a glimpse of T’Challa in the mirror, watching you. ‘Everything okay?’ You asked him, as you fixed your hair. He focused on you and nodded. ‘You look beautiful.’ He said before he turned and left the room, you smiled slightly.
‘Can I talk to you.’ T’Challa said, walking beside you. ‘You know you can.’ You said to him. You walked down the corridor and onto the balcony looking over Wakanda. ‘How was your date?’ He asked, you pulled a face. ‘It was okay.’ You answered truthfully. ‘Okay?’ T’Challa asked confused. ‘Yeah, he was more interested in you.’ You told him, he only nodded. ‘What’s wrong?’ You asked him, you placed your hand on top of his. He looked at you and then he looked out over the country, before taking a deep breath. ‘Don’t go on another date.’ He suddenly said. ‘What?’ You asked him confused. You faced him, and he kept looking out. ‘What do you mean don’t go on another date?’ You asked him. ‘At least not with other men.’ He suggested. ‘Well who am I to go out with?’ You quizzed. ‘Me.’ He said, you froze, and he turned to finally face you. ‘Go out with me, please. I can’t stand you going out with other men when my heart belongs to you.’ He said, he took your hand and clasped his fingers around it, stroking the back of your hand. ‘I should have gone on that date earlier.’ You said, his eyes widened and looked at you. ‘Shuri set me up on that date, something about you and being too stubborn.’ You teased him, he smiled, and you returned it. ‘Of course it was her idea.’ He said, you took your hand away from his and placed them both onto his shoulders, clasping them together behind his neck. His placed on your hips, you leant your head forward and placed it on his chest, looking out at the sunset that was happening. ‘So will you go on a date with me?’ He asked, you looked up. ‘Of course.’ You said as you leant up and placed a kiss on the corner of his lips before you started getting a call. You sighed as you looked at it, noticing it was Shuri. ‘I gotta go, Shuri’s calling me.’ You told him, and he rolled his eyes. ‘Tomorrow night be ready.’ He said as you walked away, you smiled as you turned around and nodded.

When Wish Fulfillment Fantasies Meet Reality: A Re-Examination of Twilight
**CW/TW: The following piece discusses dating violence with brief mentions to sexual assault and self-harm.**
This year, the last Fifty Shades movie finally came and went, and as its popularity slowly morphs into a bad memory for pop culture, I’m thinking again about the fiction’s effect on reality, particularly wish fulfillment fantasies, self-insert stories, etc etc.
Tumblr media
This train of thought began with the Twilight series after watching Lindsay Ellis’s video essay, “Dear Stephenie Meyer,” where she revisits the hatred surrounding said franchise. While it’s definitely not without serious flaws, Twilight was not really as bad as people made it out to be. And most of the criticism was solely about millions of young girls and their moms liking a thing because, what a shock, our society tends to hate anything feminine. I was definitely one of those teenage girls who wanted nothing to do with Twilight, surprising no one probably. Even though I had enough plot summary from friends to pick up the actual problems of the story, I just had fun hating it for the sake of hating it and disassociating with anything feminine because I was neck-deep in my weeaboo phase.
Cut to about seven years later, I took a Vampires in Pop Culture class and Twilight (the first of the series) was on the reading list. With a more mature mind, I sat down, read it, and yeah, it really was not as bad as I thought. Yes, Bella’s too one-dimensional, Edward’s still pretty creepy, and the dialogue and prose is at best, ridiculous and at worst, stale. It knows its target audience is tweens and reads as such, which unfortunately doesn’t grip me as an adult. I gave up at the baseball scene cause I was ready to gouge my eyes out if I read one more description of the weather. And give credit where it’s due, the side characters have way more fascinating stories than Bella or Edward, and it’s a shame Meyer didn’t take a chance to further expand them instead. I couldn’t find much to be angry about with the first book, and I was honestly more bored than anything. But I also cannot deny the wish fulfillment fantasy driving the narrative which drew in a large audience all those years ago.
And wish fulfillment is fine. Self-insert is fine. Teenage girls are just figuring out what confidence is, and there is some reassurance in a fantasy where the totally out-of-league man of your dreams still finds you the most fascinating human being in the world and wants to give you all his undivided attention. Not every female lead needs to be a strong independent woman who don’t need no man. I still see people write self-insert fanfictions from time to time, and they’re very sweet and tender to imagine being loved by a favorite character. We actually consume these stories more than we like to admit.
Tumblr media
Hell, one of my favorite guilty pleasure films is The Princess Diaries. In many ways, it hits the same notes as Twilight. It’s a pure wish fulfillment fantasy where the main girl is smart, but clumsy and awkward and just wants to be invisible. Yet she finds herself on a whirlwind journey of self-discovery where others find value in her, and she even falls in love with a boy who adores her regardless of how she perceives herself. Yet The Princess Diaries is such a popular chick flick among people my age. So why is something like The Princess Diaries fondly remembered as an integral part of a millenial/Gen Z childhood while Twilight is met with disdain and disgust?
The major differences boil down to the main female protagonists: Mia and Bella. While not an overly complex character, Mia has, well, a personality. Her journey is more personal of overcoming her social anxiety and realizing how much she can contribute to the world as a public figure if she just takes the leap of faith. Getting a romance in the end is just icing on the cake when she remembers who was there for her even when she was the awkward nerd and will love her regardless of appearance or social status. It’s cheesy and hokey as chick flicks do, but it’s a satisfying wish fulfillment fantasy where the protagonist is better off than where she started and what she was looking for was right there all along.
With Bella, I barely know who she is outside of her romantic interests. Sure, the books go into more detail of her intelligence and social anxiety, but it’s never seen in film. Her life completely revolves around her relationships to the point of obsession, but we never almost see what she’s like when not caught up in the supernatural love triangle. And unfortunately, it’s a problem which worsens with each sequel. The Twilight franchise frames romance as something Bella can’t live without to the point of shutting herself in for months when the Cullens leave in New Moon, refusing to talk to her friends and family, and getting night terrors. It’s intended to make you feel sorry for Bella, but her backwards priorities make her completely pathetic on how much of her life she misses because of some boy who didn’t hesitate to cut her from his life, and she was totally fine with him leaving if he didn’t turn her into a vampire.
Prioritizing unrequited love over your own well being is such an unhealthy idea to romanticize because there is far more to life than some dumb boy who won’t return your feelings. I saw my fair share of unsatisfying romances in young adulthood hanging on by a thread for some idealized love that’s never going to happen. Even though a break up is the simplest and most effective solution for both people to take care of themselves, they continue wasting their time being unhappy with each other and latching on to the rose-tinted view of how they first fell in love. I know some people don’t like the idea that you have to love yourself before someone else, but there’s still truth to the saying where you have to understand that being in a romantic relationship will not automatically fix all your problems and guarantee a happily ever after.
Aside from getting married and having a baby which almost kills her during pregnancy, Bella doesn’t grow as a character or develop any personality, and she just gets her happy ending anyway. The Volturi hint that Bella is special because she’s unaffected by vampire powers, but that detail is shuffled to the sidelines to get more of Jacob and Edward butting heads on who she’ll choose. Most of the story’s events are outside her control and she doesn’t explore further into what they mean about her being special, and even her turning into a vampire-- not even of her own volition, but as a last ditch attempt to save her while dying in childbirth-- doesn’t change that much about her except now she’s immortal and she can bang Edward without getting knocked unconscious again.
I know Twilight is commercial romantic fiction meant to go in one ear and out the other, but it’s still such a damn waste of great lore and  build up with no pay off. And Bella is such a bore of a protagonist to follow the entire time even for a blank slate who is meant to be easily identifiable for teenage readers. Again, not every female character needs to wield a sword or be flawless at everything they do, but having an engaging arc is the simplest bare minimum when writing your story’s protagonist. But that got lost in drawn out weather descriptions and, of course, the unhealthiest romances in fiction.
In a 2013 interview with TIME about her book, The Host, Meyer says she never thinks much about if her protagonists are good role models because “it’s fiction... I don’t think you should be using fictional characters as role models.” To that, I strongly disagree and am rather surprised to hear from Meyer given the great battles of Team Edward vs Team Jacob as each of the films released in theaters. Granted, this is an old interview, and I don’t know how much her opinion changed, but it still irks me.
Whether you like to admit it or not-- especially on the wonderful world of Tumblr.com--, fiction affects our reality. It alters our perception on politics, race, gender, lifestyles, and yes, even romance. Especially as kids and teenagers, we can’t help but find role models to base our ever-changing identities on and look up to so we can be better people for ourselves and society. It’s the reason why so many people define themselves on what Hogwarts house they’re in, why Disney milks Star Wars as long as they can, and why black communities arranged trips for everyone to see Black Panther. And unfortunately, I can’t bring myself to say Twilight is completely harmless in how it portrays the romances.
Tumblr media
Just type in any search engine about abusive relationships in Twilight, and you get millions upon millions of analyses on how Edward and Jacob check off as abusers. They’re controlling, aggressive, easy to become jealous, and lacking any notion of personal boundaries. However, one abuser often forgotten in this conversation is Bella, who is such a despicable, emotional manipulator.
Remember how ridiculously depressed she gets in New Moon when Edward leaves? Well, she starts seeing visions of Edward checking in on her whenever she seems to be in danger. And she gets the bright idea to keep purposefully doing so-- including hanging out with shady gang members, crashing a motorcycle and jumping off a cliff-- just to get his attention and hopefully coax him to return to Forks. I’m surprised she didn’t just straight up say “If you leave me, I’ll kill myself” because it’s such textbook gaslighting. And when Edward is led to believe Bella died, then he attempts suicide! And she’s seriously surprised he would given how much needless self-harm she did over the months? What else did you think was going to happen?! I can’t even laugh at some of the badness of New Moon because Bella’s toxic behavior leaves such a sour taste in my mouth. Her severe romantic dependency went from being a damsel-in-distress to an abusive, emotionally manipulative screwball. And that’s just scraping the tip of the iceberg, folks.
Upon actually watching all the films for the first time, Edward’s behavior isn’t nearly as bad as my first perceptions when I was in middle school, but his possessiveness and lack of personal space are still incredibly uncomfortable. I know we all wrote that fanfiction where person A gets saved by person B from attempted gang rape, but Edward is so overbearingly and exhaustively protective, and it just gets worse in the sequels up until Bella’s finally transformed into a vampire. It is to the point where he hardly trusts Bella to do anything by herself knowing how massive of a klutz she is, and will pop into her home without permission, warning or respect of her personal space. As such, she never grows independence, much less learn how to protect herself or be prepared when supernatural forces come for her while the Cullens leave.
Edward may have good intentions to think of Bella’s safety with the context of other vampires mercilessly killing humans in Washington state, but he’s also on a slippery slope of controlling nearly every aspect of her life, especially when she might start feeling romantic for someone else, because guess what dude? You left for over half a year. This continuing behavior throughout the series heavily contributes to Bella’s unhealthy dependency on a romantic partner to the point where she feels like she can’t live without them. Granted, that doesn’t excuse her emotional manipulation, but because she never learns self-defense on the off chance no one else is there to save her, it’s no wonder why she has severe issues with separation and loneliness. Like I said before, you can’t have a healthy romantic relationship if you think it’s going to automatically fix all your problems. Your romantic partner isn’t your therapist or coping mechanism, especially if you can’t handle a simple break up or if said partner wasn’t even that great to begin with.
You’d think Jacob would be off the hook since he at least doesn’t watch Bella while she’s sleeping, but he’s not escaping unscathed. Despite how the series tries to explain what imprinting is, it’s glanced over so quickly on the now creepy relationship between Jacob and Bella’s daughter, even all things considered for a rapidly growing vampire child. He also has a ton of aggressive tendencies as part of the werewolf gene to the point where he will inevitably hurt Bella-- as illustrated with another pack member’s live-in girlfriend who has scars across her face--, and has zero respect for consent as he forcibly kisses her on multiple occasions. Yeah, cause painting your Native American characters-- and only prominent characters of color-- as inevitable, aggressive predators sure is good representation and definitely not some awful racial stereotype. Jacob embodies the most basic descriptors of toxic masculinity between his sense of entitlement that Bella should choose him over Edward and the “boys will be boys” mentality as though Jacob is completely incapable of any self-control, werewolf or not. Given the recent news surrounding Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination and his defenders claiming “what boy hasn’t done this” and that he shouldn’t be punished for his actions as a young man, Jacob’s character is one of the most dangerous aspects of the series to be romanticized as a wish fulfillment fantasy. He’s not only based on gross racial stereotypes, but also on harmful patriarchal ideas of men thinking they’re entitled to women without any consideration to their autonomy. Normalizing this behavior as attractive qualities in a partner allows men to run from their actions without consequence.
And this toxic masculinity only heightened when Fifty Shades of Grey entered the spotlight for pop culture to bash, but had much more legitimate criticisms to garner hatred.
Tumblr media
Fifty Shades of Grey changes up the wish fulfillment fantasy where instead of a vampire, the clumsy and awkward female lead, Anastasia Steele, is swept away by billionaire, Christian Grey, who’s happy to spoil her with grand luxuries but has a troubled past which makes it difficult for him to love. Oh, and he’s into BDSM and writes up a questionable contract for Anastasia on all the kinky shit he wants to do. And Anastasia is so sweet and innocent she doesn’t even know what an anal plug is (like, it’s right there in the name, sweetheart. You can’t be this dumb). As you do, things go wrong, they take a break, Christian dumps his tragic anime backstory on Anastasia as a pathetic excuse to apologize, people from his past show up because reasons, and they eventually live happily ever after, married with a baby on the way.
Not only does Christian hit the same abuser red flags as Edward, Jacob and Bella on top of being the worst dom in history, but the series passes off that anyone can be fixed with the power of love. Once again, your romantic partner isn’t your therapist. Trauma may explain his behavior, but that doesn’t excuse what he put Anastasia through, and neither is it suddenly her job to fix him. And abusers like Christian are never reformed so easily with love; more often than not, they use it as leverage to manipulate and keep the relationship going for the sake of control. Sure, it sounds hot to be in a BDSM relationship with a billionaire ready to spoil you, but do the ends really justify the means of that sweet wish fulfillment? Is it really that great of a fantasy to play your partner’s therapist and humor their extreme control and possessiveness to the point where you’re almost not allowed to be an individual?
It’s one thing to have guilty pleasures and wish fulfillment fantasies. But after a while, you wonder what it is about a certain piece of media which makes it a guilty pleasure. It’s one thing if Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey are guilty pleasures in some of the enjoyably bad writing, unnatural dialogue or squandered potential. But upholding these romances as ideal and disregarding all the blatant warning signs of abusive relationships? That’s where we really need to take a step back and wonder why this is remotely okay to normalize, especially for impressionable teenage girls. Even though I was mostly amused by the films’ bad writing and these poor actors pushing through for their paychecks, there was also a fair amount of content which was too uncomfortable to laugh at-- Bella’s emotional manipulation, the portrayal of werewolves, and the unsubtle anti-abortion message in Breaking Dawn: Part 1 just to name a few. It’s baffling how these properties became cultural phenomenons for their “romances of the century” when most of these character really need couples’ counseling.
Thankfully, these franchises didn’t made too lasting impressions and for the most part are forgotten. Stephenie Meyer quietly retired to continue taking care of her kids, and EL James just kinda disappeared from the media spotlight since the last film released. Maybe Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey aren’t the worst series to happen to mainstream media, but they still heavily reflect a society which to this day hesitates to call dating violence what it is. Where finding love in another takes priority over self-care. Where people still struggle to define abuse because “if that’s abuse, then everyone I know has been abused.” Where despite sexual assault survivors’ testimonies, polygraph tests, supporters, and grueling mental exhaustion to tell their stories, their abusers roam free without consequence and are still allowed power with their nasty holier-than-thou attitudes to silence anyone who dares question their character.
We’re slowly getting better in these kind of fantasies for teens with films like Love, Simon and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before with genuinely health romances where the characters have to confront their flaws and grow. We’re a lot more critical of relationship dynamics in film than we were over a decade ago, especially with #MeToo in the last year. But part of me is still worried if we’ll have another trend like Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey where it’s blindly defended because it’s fiction and disregard when people romanticize the severely problematic elements which don’t guarantee happily-ever-afters for couples’ in reality. As the possibility of reverting to pre-Roe vs. Wade days becomes more of a likelihood, at what point do we finally acknowledge that a simple fantasy isn’t automatically above criticism?
If you enjoyed this analysis and what I do here, consider buying me a ko-fi to show your support!

G. WIllow Wilson’s AMA was yesterday, here is a quick summarry of what we learned:
* When at first Marvel approached her to write a story that became Ms. Marvel, they had a blank slate with only a loose idea to inspire it on stories of editor Sana Amanat’s childhood. It took Wilson and Amanat nine months to agree on what Kamala’s powers would be - Wilson was opposed to giving her any “pretty” powers like sparkling or Jean Grey-style telepathy, but giving her violent powers like laser beams could be seen as a political statement and on top of that they wanted something that allows creativity and is fun to look at. Getting to her type of shapeshifting took a while. And then they made Kamala have to choose between the ability to transform into other people and healing factor to show that in order to be the best hero she can be, she has to be comfortable with herself and her own body. Though that doesn’t mean she cannot turn into other things anymore.
* The most intrusive editorial notes Wilson gets are to dial down a plot point or character if they come off as too on the nose in satirizing real-life individuals. Thankfully she and Sana Amanat are mostly on the same page when it comes to the tone of the series, so they don’t have much of a conflict. That being said, while she spoke recently about her sacrificing some material gain and fame to keep Kamala from being seen as too political, if Marvel decided to turn the book into an unsubtle political story, she wouldn’t be able to stop them. Thankfully it doesn’t seem like a thing that would be in their interest at all.
* She doesn’t put too much information for the artist into the script, allowing them their own vision, which really flourished with Adrian Alphona. Kamala lives on the Groove Street, in walking distance of McNair Academics (or rather, it’s Marvel-equivalent), but not too close to PATH Station. At first, when only Adrian Alphona and Takeshi Miyazawa were handling the art, everything was supposed to reflect real places in Jersey, but now with rotating artists, a lot of it has sadly been lost.
* Wilson has no better idea if we’re going to see Kamala in MCU than anyone else. If it was up to her, she would prefer her to show up on an episodic series, rather than a movie, since it allows for telling more complex stories.
* Crossover between Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl is just inventable to happen at some point, they just need to come up with epic enough storyline. While there are no concrete plans, Wilson is also open to a crossover or stories allowing Kamala to visit Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider or Black Panther (she sent Bruno to Wakanda to let that crossover happen one day). As much as people love the setting of Ms. Marvel’s adventures, she is really tempted to get Kamala out of New Jersey for an arc or two, maybe even put her on a spaceship.
* Wilson was on enough Marvel editorial retreats to witness how the event comics are being made but currently, she has too many projects, some of which she will announce soon, to try working on one. She isn’t opposed to taking another series at some point, but right now she likes having a couple of weeks to work on novels and short stories and articles and doesn’t have time for another series.
*  Islam has very high standards for what is miraculous or divine so ironically there isn’t as much conflict between Kamala’s faith and her having powers as in some other religions. Similarly, people who keep asking how she can be a monotheist in a world with Greek and Norse Gods don’t get how Islam really approaches the subject. Thor, Loki or Hercules may call themselves gods but they all have been born, can die and have physical bodies occupying a specific place at a specific time, so they don’t fit Islamic definition of God.
* Somebody asked if there is a chance for Kamala to come in contact with people from other Middle Eastern diasporas across Americas, like Middle Eastern citizens of South American countries. Wilson said that introducing such characters often depends on strength and weakness of the artistic team, sometimes you might need to do a lot of research to tell a story about a particular culture or place or realize you’re not good enough to tell that story.
* The story from All-New All-Different Avengers Annual she wrote, about Kamala finding out fanfictions about herself, is loosely based on her own experience with fanfics - she used to be a regular fanfic reader but now doesn’t check them out that much because she started finding Ms. Marvel fanfics and it got weird really fast. Especially the “sexy ones”.....
I need to point out that it means not only there is smut of Kamala out there but it creeped out her own creator, so, good job, Internet, good fucking job

Willow: The Lonely Ones? Angel: Vampires. Xander: Oh! We usually call them the nasty, pointy, bitey ones. Chanterelle: So many people have that misconception. But they who walk with the night are not interested in harming anyone. They are creatures above us. Exalted! Angel: You're a fool. Chanterelle: You don't have to be so confrontational about it. Other viewpoints than yours may be valid, you know.

AOS Star Trek Hogwarts and Ilvermorny Sorting
I started this a while ago, but a post earlier by @mccoymostly had me returning back to this to finish it :)
Because Star Trek is my love and Harry Potter is in my blood, I had to do a sorting. Since we now have Ilvermorny to work with as well (although, not a lot of detail for it :p), I gotta include that one, too! Everyone is pretty well-versed on the Hogwarts houses by this point, but I’m gonna do a quick run-down on the Ilvermorny ones first below the cut.
Each sorting is divided by the character :)
Again, there is next to nothing in terms of background on the Ilvermorny houses. To get a better idea of them, I read through the various posts Rowling made on Pottermore several times, making notes and filling in the blanks. These are my thoughts on the houses :)
Horned Serpent
Creature : With a glittering jewel set into it's forehead, the horned serpent dwells in a river near the school and, like other snakes and serpents, it is cunning and smart.
: Representing the mind of the witch or wizard, this Ilvermorny house favors the scholar. Those belonging to this house will throw themselves into their studies, collecting book after book and leaving their private desks littered with dozens of pages of messily-written notes. Though as studious as they are, Horned Serpents won't confine themselves to their book all the time. Spending a few hours out in the woods, preferably near water, does wonders for them. But do not underestimate them; they may be scholars, but their animal is the Horned Serpent for a reason.
Wampus
Creature : The wampus is a six-legged, panther-like beast that prowls through the woods of North America. They are fast, strong, and nearly impossible to kill. Do not approach.   : Believed to represent the body of a witch or wizard, this house of Ilvermorny favors the warrior. Like the magical beast, these witches and wizards are fierce and not afraid to back down from a fight, whether it be physical or verbal. Their natural skills at debating and arguing makes them likely to thrive in all aspects of public protection - whether it be as a lawyer or an officer of the law. It's wise to not challenge them for if you do, you will lose. As intimidating as they are, wampuses are incredibly protective of the people, things, and places that they hold dear.
Pukwudgie
Creature : A creature native to North America, the Pukwudgie is a distant relative to the European Goblins. Physically, they are short, grey-faced, and have large ears. Temperament wise, they are far from fond of humans, incredible tricky, and very independent. Pukwudgies are known to enjoy playing tricks on humans and hunt with a bow and poisonous arrows.
: This Ilvermorny house represents the heart of a witch or wizard and favors healers. These students, like the Pukwudgie, can be stubborn and value their privacy, but they are loyal to a fault. You will never have a broken promise with these witches and wizards. They are more apt to helping others than they are to ask for help, preferring to immerse themselves in the natural world around them in hopes finding the solution to their problem. With that said, a word of caution to outsiders who wish to associate with them - You will not be excluded from their list as possible prank targets.
Thunderbird
Creature : With each beat of it's massive wings, the legendary thunderbird can create swirling storms of thunder and lightning as it flies through the North American skies.   : Representing the soul of a witch or wizard, the Thunderbird house favors the adventurers. These students are smart and accomplished, but you won't see them settled on one thing for too long. They live by the motto, "Know a little bit about a lot". Thunderbirds are like Wikipedia personified. Like weather, they are temperamental and unpredictable. They ache to travel and explore places unknown to them and others, picking up information as they go.
☼ Another thing to remember about Ilvermorny - New students aren’t always give just one house. While Hogwarts consists of a telepathic hat placed on the students head that announces their house to the school, Ilvermorny has carvings. The entire school is brought into the round entrance hall; the older students clustered on the balcony while the new students stand along the wall on ground level. One by one the new students are called to stand in the middle of the room on the school crest. From there, one or more of the four carvings (the creatures of each house) will signify their interest in the student. If only one does, then that student has to go to that house. But if more than one does, then that student is free to decide where they wish to go.
Now onto the sortings!!
Jaylah
Hogwarts : Gryffindor
Ilvermorny : Wampus
I figured that Jaylah was a Wampus and a Gryffindor. We don't really know how long she's been on Altamid, but it's quite clear that she's a strong survivor and warrior - filled with fire and courage. And she won't just fight for herself, she fights for others too. She's also brilliant, as proven by her traps and engineering skills, and caring and loyal. She is a perfect, deadly storm.
Seriously, I believe that the Wampus carving would try to claim her and, even if other houses showed interest, she would pick that house.
And the Sorting Hat??? Oh yeah it’d put her in Gryffindor.
Scotty
Hogwarts : Ravenclaw
Ilvermorny : Horned Serpent
He's smart – a genius – and there's no doubt that he's one the best minds in Starfleet's Engineering division. If he wasn't he wouldn't be the Chief Engineer on the Enterprise. He's also loyal and he's shown us time and time again that he won't back down from a challenge – whether it be physical or mental. Sure, he'll follow orders, and do so grudgingly if he doesn't believe in them, but he will take a stand (no matter the consequences) if he feels he must. Scotty cares about others and can be a fighter when he needs to be, but his mind still shines brighter.
I believe that Horned Serpent would definitely want to claim him and, regardless if other houses do, he would gravitate towards that house to feed his tinkering nature.
And he would not be a hatstall at Hogwarts, that’s for sure. Ravenclaw all the way!
Sulu
Hogwarts : Hufflepuff
Ilvermorny : Wampus
Sulu is another one I sorted into Wampus. Going over the past three films, he's always wasted no time in stepping up into a protective, warrior mode when it comes into his direction. In the first one we see him volunteering to a space-dive onto a tiny drilling platform where he fights Romulans with his fold-able sword. Like, does he always have that on him or did he swing by his room and grab it? I'm going with former. Then in the second film, we see him step up into the Captain's role for a brief moment – threatening Khan without a single tremor of fear. And the third one, where we are given more of a look into the other members of the crew, we see him grab any fear that appears in his body by the balls and does not let that get in the way of keeping everyone safe.
It also fits in with Hufflepuffs. People often think that the Puffs are these kind and gentle souls and that’s it. Uh-uh. No way. We are motherfucking mother bears and honey badgers. Yeah, kind and gentle is the preferred way to go, but if you mess with a Hufflepuff or someone they care about? You are not exempt from their retaliation. Puffs don’t take any shit. Hufflepuffs are not cast-offs that other houses don’t want. They are the people who embody all of the house traits, but they don’t define themselves as having just one important trait.
Hikaru Sulu is a motherfucking mother bear.
So yeah, Sulu would go for Wampus and the Sorting hat would have no issue placing him in Hufflepuff.
Chekov
Hogwarts : Ravenclaw
Ilvermorny : Horned Serpent
At first, I thought Pavel was a toughie (in terms of Ilvermorny), but - thinking it over - he’s really easy.  He belongs in Horned Serpent and Ravenclaw. Like the others, he has aspects of the other houses, but I just couldn't ignore his brilliant mind - one that we see showcased throughout the films.
Horned Serpent would easily be where Chekov would go and Ravenclaw is the Sorting Hats pick.
Uhura
Hogwarts : Slytherin
Ilvermorny : Wampus
Nyota is quick and intelligent, but all higher powers help any poor sod who crosses her or anyone she cares about. The first thing you'll get a verbal lashing tough enough to leave scars; she's demonstrated that plenty of times in the movies. And she's more than proven that she can resort to physical defense. We see her step up to that both in ST:ID and STB. Not to mention she is determined and manipulative as fuck. Point in case - that scene were she had Spock changing her assignment in what? 30 seconds?
Horned Serpent and Ravenclaw would be a temptation, but I believe Wampus and Slytherin would be where she’d really fit in.
Spock
Hogwarts : Ravenclaw
Ilvermorny : Horned Serpent
Do I really need to go in depth on why Spock belongs in Horned Serpent and Ravenclaw????
His mind has always been his most valuable trait. With his interactions with his family, friends, and fellow crew members, we've come to know that he does have other important traits (he does care, he is loyal), but his mind is still his defining quality.
Horned Serpent and Ravenclaw would be the logical houses for him.
Bones
Hogwarts : Hufflepuff
Ilvermorny : Pukwudgie
Oh, my Adorable Space Curmudgeon. So, this was a very very obvious choice for me. The heart of the wizard??? Favors the healer??? Hello, Leonard McCoy! He's the heart of the crew and a the best doctor in the 'Fleet!
Gah! He's like the textbook description of this house!!
But, if I have to get more descriptive...
He's grumpy. Everyone knows that. There's not a fanfiction in this world that doesn't call him grumpy at least once. He’s stubborn and gruff with others, but he's just a giant teddy bear. And so so loyal! He hates space with a passion and yet he followed his exuberant best friend *coughcoughboyfriendcoughcough* into space! Not to mention caring. Look at how many times he’s put his own safety to the side to check over his patients and fellow crew members.
For my Hufflepuff argument, please see the part with Sulu ‘cause that also applies here.
Bones is another motherfucking mother bear.
Pukwudgie would definitely claim him and the Sorting Hat would declare Bones a Hufflepuff.
Jim
Hogwarts : Slytherin
Ilvermorny : Thunderbird
Jim was a toss up between Thunderbird and Wampus. Honestly, he could go in either, but Thunderbird spoke more to me for him. Jim is the Soul of the Enterprise. He has this unquenchable thirst for adventure and exploring that’s pretty infectious to the rest of the crew - he’s a thrill seeker. And he’s smart - a flat out genius! But, he’s not knowledgeable on just one thing. He’s knows a little bit about a lot of things. We’ve seen that he can be temperamental and we know he has a tendency to be unpredictable.
Yes, he’s brave and courageous and intelligent, but he’s also incredibly determined and down-right devious. Gryffindors have more of an ‘Act first, Think About the Actions Later’ vibe, but he has a plan. A sometimes half-assed, sketchy plan, but a plan none-the-less.
He and Nyota would be the rulers of the Slytherin house.
If he was at Ilvermorny, I have no doubt that Horned Serpent, Wampus, and Thunderbird would try to claim him. I think his need to go go go will draw him towards Thunderbird.
And while Gryffindor is a tempting option, Slytherin is were Jim would flourish.
And to finish I would like to mention again, these are my views on the possible sortings. I 100% think that some of these characters can in fact be in different houses and I keep an open mind with them as a result :)

Why i am part of TSDS part 1
Ok so because my obsession with the Avengers returned and i started to (again) read everything about them i stumbled on some Tony Stark Defense Squad blogs AND HOLY HELL. I had no idea people blamed Tony for just about everything and anything. And because i am a fucking masochist i decided to lurk a bit in the anti tony stark tag. And I couldn’t even get through 4 posts and already my blood pressure skyrocketed. ( here i have to put these brackets and explain myself: usually i am chill person who doesn’t engage in fandom. I reblog some stuff, read some meta, a lot of fanfiction and i stay out of the so called fandom wars because as you can see that’s not good for my blood pressure. But now i have exams coming up and a lot of restless energy and unless i want to start world war 4 with my mother i have to rant)
(And i am going to divide this in two posts because good God this turned from a rant into a dissertation)
The first thing that pissed me off is the argument that Tony brought no no sorry “manipulated” a child soldier and brought him in the fight in Leipzig. And this I’ve seen a lot, in fact it’s the primary argument against Tony. And I don’t get it. No really. I mean yes this Spiderman is a teenager but at the time of CW he was already operating for months(6 to be exact). The only thing Tony did was give him an upgrade (which he desperately needed) and bring him to the airport AND when the fight starts he orders him (and I can’t remember the exact quote) to stay on the sidelines and web them up. Tony doesn’t want Spiderman in the thick of things he just wants to detain Cap’s team. And we know from the interaction between Cap and Spiderman that Tony informed Peter of what is going on. Now Tony doesn’t have the full picture (because Cap couldn’t be bothered to pick up the phone and inform Tony because apparently Tony wouldn’t listen and i have no idea whatever gave him that impression) and because of that neither does Peter. Only we, as an audience, have the whole picture. So this thing with the “child soldier” is pointless really. Did any of you READ the definition of a child soldier? Hmm? Well here it is : “Child soldiers are any children under the age of 18 who are recruited by a state or non-state armed group and used as fighters, cooks, suicide bombers, human shields, messengers, spies, or for sexual purposes.” Yes Spiderman is under 18 and Tony recruited him BUT he didn’t use him as a fighter or as a human shield or the other things. If Peter decided after the first altercation to just sit on the sidelines and do nothing or decided to occasionally web someone up nobody would have reprimanded him in fact that is exactly what Tony wanted. But he didn’t because hello this is Spiderman we are talking about. He’s not just going to sit on the sidelines. (and also because they needed to introduce Spidey before Homecoming) Another person said that Tony tried to shoot Wilson out of the sky after he tried to help Rhodey. Did we watch the same movie? Wilson was already on the ground when Tony blasted him with a repulsor. And considering the fact that Tony just saw his best friend shot out of the sky and doesn’t know his condition only that he is alive I don’t blame him. If i was in his position i would have had exactly the same reaction. And Sam was perfectly fine, when Vision touches down near them you can see him lifting his head. And it’s not like he wasn’t wearing body armor which can take a beating. Yes he has a black eye next time we see him but unless a repulsor to the chest gives you black eyes then it’s probably not because of Tony. And you can see clearly that Tony is pulling his punches i mean in the Avengers he goes head to head with Thor and manages to hold him off you bet your ass if he wanted to injure Cap’s team he could have done it because that armour is not just for show. What really really pissed me off from the movie is Natasha’s comment about him being unable to swallow his pride. And what does Tony a few scenes later? Exactly that. He goes to the raft, accepts that maybe he is wrong and goes off to help Cap and Bucky. This is not a man who cannot accept that sometimes he makes mistakes. Especially considering THAT he is a genius! He is an engineer, he knows that sometimes you make a mistake and then you have to take steps to right that mistake! And the fight in Siberia! Oh my God! People blame Tony for going after Bucky! And God knows that Bucky is one of my precious babies and i love him with all my heart but when i first saw the movie i NEVER thought that Tony was in the wrong! Do i like that Bucky came off without an arm and that he had to fight Tony? No. But i also don’t blame Tony for his reaction! If i was in his place and i just saw my parents being murdered violently with their murderer standing next to me and my friend knew about the situation and didn’t bother to inform me earlier and then tried to lie to protect said murderer you bet your ass i would go on a rampage that would make the Hulk blush! And again Tony is pulling his punches when it comes to Steve! He tells him to stand down (the fact that Steve continues to fight doesn’t count) and tries not to hurt him too much even though Tony is clearly emotionally compromised. This is a man who had the plan to keep his team together and happy blow into his face and then he had to face the brutal murder of his parents and he still doesn’t want to fight Steve! And Steve oh my fucking God! He manages to beat Tony and then stand above him with the shield and brings it down on the arc reactor and Tony has his arms above his head, his palm repulsors still work and he doesn’t shoot to protect himself because a repulsor shot at point blank range in the face would do a lot of fucking damage even to a super soldier and he doesn’t want to hurt Steve. And what does Steve do? He brings the shield down and breaks the arc reactor. My first reaction at this was to scream because for a second i forgot that Tony doesn’t need it anymore to live (and if Tony doesn’t forget himself in the moment that he doesn’t need the reactor to live i will eat my phone). My second reaction was to stare in disbelief because Steve just broke something that is capable of sustaining the Iron Man armor and an entire tower for a year. What if it exploded? Even though i think Tony build fail safes to prevent this, it is still a possibility. Afterwards Steve just leaves Tony there and goes with Black Panther.. we know Tony made it back to the compound and they don’t show us how but the suit is clearly damaged and in no state to be flying. I personally think that Friday brought the chopper to Tony.

Emotional Wound/Fatal Flaw - Need some help to wrap my brain around those terms and how they lead to the Crisis in a 'Three Act'-plot
I've just finished reading "Plot Basics: Plot Your Novel or Screenplay in Eight Sequences" by Paul Tomlinson. And every time he talks about 'the thing the character thinks he wants not being what he needs' and 'the fatal flaw that will lead to his darkest moment and the crisis' or 'the fear he tries to avoid facing'...
Well, my brain does the same thing it does when faced with math/numbers - a moment of flailing in panic followed by going blank :(
Can anyone explain to me what exactly the 'emotional wound/fatal flaw' of a character is and how it ties into the Three Act plot structure?
I think one of my problems is that Mr. Tomlinson rarely uses examples to illustrate his explanations about the story beats/eight sequences. Maybe using a character I'm familiar with as an example will help me out?
Just in case, I'm listing the biggest fandoms I'm familiar with: Supernatural, Game of Thrones (only up to Season/Book 3), Final Fantasy (7, 8, 9,10, 12,15), MCU (except Black Panther/Infinity War), Naruto, Tokyo Ghoul, X-Men (movies only), Star Wars (movies only, except TLJ), Dragon Age, Hannibal, Person of Interest, The Walking Dead, Star Trek: DS9.
