After some absolute bullshit I've seen in the last 12 hours in Formula 1 circles, I need to let the intrusive thoughts out.

These are GROWN MEN participating in a multi-billion-dollar global sport. Stop projecting your feelings and experiences onto them. The infantilization of these men is absolutely ridiculous. The behavior of so many fans is out of control. It's exhausting to have to constantly navigate around this stuff and block a dozen people a day for the crap I see.

Nobody is saying you can't have fun in fandom, make jokes, write your fanfic, make your edits, etc. I'm on Tumblr. Obviously I appreciate that stuff.

But when you're wishing horrible things on Alex Albon/Williams because poor widdle Logie Bear isn't going to race because tHaT's NoT fAiR, it just shows you have no concept of reality when it comes to the business of the sport or Logan and Alex's objective worth to it. You can feel bad for Logan as a person while acknowledging reality and not making threats.

When you're slandering Daniel Ricciardo as a selfish prick/bad friend/disgusting person for not going to Scotty James' snowboarding competitions because you don't understand how adult friendships, travel logistics, professional schedules, and equitable relationships work, you're just showing your immaturity.

When you think it's okay to scream in people's faces, throw things at people, grab/touch people without their consent and if you don't act that way you're not a real fan or "real one," it shows you have no respect.

When you think talking hate, spamming comments, sending nasty DMs, looking up medical/family information, basically stalking women who are associated with the drivers is fine (because you think you have a chance with them), you're a creep and have zero boundaries.

When you position yourself as an authority on F1 but care more about posting on social media for a reaction/likes/comments than actually sharing things that are true, you are a problem and an embarrassment to content creators/members of the media who are doing actual work. That's not directed at honest mistakes, that is to the people who are wilfully ignorant and/or feed misinformation/sensationalism because it makes them popular.

NONE of that energy is needed in F1, or any fandom. It's absolutely gross and just as nasty as the men who act like know-it-alls and treat people like crap, just from the other end of the bell curve.

Since I can't seem to stay quiet and I all but made up my mind to stay away from the tag for the next week or so, let's talk about recent discussions about jance and bokris and this...weird ship war that has been going on, shall we?

Under the cut bc while I am annoying, I will spare you the essay if you don't want to read it, god knows I write too many of these.

I don't know when we as a fandom got to a point where we are even fighting over which ship is more likely, more realistic and if the other ship is "more queer coded" or whatever the fuck. I was under the impression that the fandom is meant to be fun thing we do, but that we are all aware shipping is something that's made up. And that even if guys play into it or even if someone is indeed really dating we are aware that what we think about it is irrelevant. Factually, even if someone "was right" about the ship, our perception of it will be widely different than the truth of real people's relationship. Because these are real people, not fictional characters. They cannot queerbait, and jokes aside, even calling someone queer coded is weird, you guys. At the end of the day, we cannot assume someone's sexuality based on how they look.

As for the whole bokris-jance discourse. I don't even know why this is a thing? Bokris people, you got fantastic solo photos of both Bojan and Kris, full of symbolism and got the fire-water link between them that's just perfect for fics.

Jance people, you got joined photoshoot, with Jan and Nace clearly being very intimately connected, which you can interpret in whatever way you wish in fics and fanart. The fact that there are less pictures speaks volumes about how private whatever they have is.

Both have it's merits. Both have it's weight. I don't understand this aggression and fighting over art. Art all of them participated in creating by speaking with Damon about it before doing the photoshoot.

I have friends who ship jance more and I have friends who ship bokris more. The truth about both is that we simply don't know what's going on behind closed doors. Even more importantly, is whatever it is that we don't know worth losing the community we built here? I feel like every time I get into the tag, there is something new people are fighting over. This is just the last thing that seems relevant and that most people got involved into.

But genuinely, I am just tired. I hope things calm down when the new song drops, although god knows there will likely be a discourse over that as well, but hopefully...less than this.

And yeah, I do know this will probably get me blocked from one or the other side or both but let's just...get it over with. Since I feel like this will happen again, I might as well make my stance clear now. Which is-I am not picking a side. I don't think real people can queerbait and that they'd do a joined photoshoot if they didn't have a very deep connection to one another. I don't think they also need their virtue defended because they definitely knew people will speculate after this. But I also don't think this 100% means they are together. Yes, it sucks that queer people need to outright say these things, but I also wouldn't claim a straight couple is dating unless they publicly announced it.

So yeah can we all just please try to chill and do fun stuff again, please?

Undertale Sans - He's cheating. He has to cheat, you're sure of it. That lucky bastard can't possibly win every game! Sans doesn't even do it on purpose. Somehow, even last time, he always manages to reverse the game last second.

Undertale Papyrus - Papyrus is not really good at the game, but he's also not giving up. To the point he refuses to go to sleep until he wins at least one game, and will forbid everyone to leave the house before he succeeds. That's going to be a long night.

Underswap Sans - He's shrieking in pure anger, trying to eject you off the road. He's not playing anymore. He hates to lose and he's going to make everyone pay. He's just trolling now, trying to ruin everyone's fun just because he's mad he's terrible at the game.

Underswap Papyrus - He knows all the secret passages and keeps winning. He loves video games and he often participates in e-sport competitions so you don't have any chance to win. He still tries to let you win though because he doesn't want you to be mad.

Underfell Sans - He's now sure of it: all that bullshit he learned at school about monsters being made of compassion is bullshit. He's a creature of rage and anger, and he swears he's going to punch the screen so hard it's going to fly to the Moon.

Underfell Papyrus - He's neutral on the outside, but screaming inside. Eventually, he picks up your controller and keeps it out of reach for you until he wins the race. You whine saying it's not fair, but he answers back that, indeed, life is unfair and to get over it.

Horrortale Sans - His brain keeps getting distracted because of all the things moving on the screen. Somehow, he always ends up going in the wrong direction. He's terrible at the game, but at least he's having fun.

Horrortale Papyrus - His hands are way too big for the controller and he's cursing out loud the entire time. He's so going to write to Nintendo about this. Make bigger controllers!

Swapfell Sans - He's willingly staying behind so he gets only blue turtle shells and he's ruining everyone's fun by throwing them one after the other. He wins the game only by being the worst asshole ever and he's definitely proud of it!

Swapfell Papyrus - He took the biggest kart he could find and he is now blocking the game. He's in the middle of the road, just forcing people to stop for long minutes. This race is never ending. Everyone wants to strangle him.

Fellswap Gold Sans - That's the tenth time he lost. He apologies to you, goes to the yard, and then a huge blaster absolutely destroy one of the big trees outside. He then comes back like nothing happened, takes back the controller, and takes a deep breath. He's ready to continue.

Fellswap Gold Papyrus - He's overexcited, it's his favorite video game! He's just happy he can share it with you and he shows you all the cool secrets he knows as you go.

let's say, Y/n is an assassin who happens to be an old friend of Blitø's, but their friendship is in the same condition as Blitzø's with Fizz.

it's pretty messed up, because they had a massive fight before going their separate ways with huge grudges towards one another.

so, when Y/n bumps into I.M.P. (let's say they both had missions in Hell, Striker and Y/n split up, and Blitzø and Y/n accidentally see each other), things get out of hand and Y/n participates in 3vs1 fight, obviously loosing because, well, Blitzø is as strong as Striker, and M&M are just as equally skilled.

Striker, who came back, is quick to join the fight, but seeing how wounded Y/n is, decides to take reins into his hands, and leave. Unfortunately, Y/n gets shot in the hip, and to avoid any more wounds, they get an upper hand on Millie and threaten to kill her.

On that note, each party goes their separate ways, and Striker takes Y/n to the hideout to patch them up, where he confesses his feelings

He was too scared, scared to be rejected and ruin the friendship you both had. He was glad to be working with you. To have another assassin by his side. He admired how strong you were and how smart you were. You always came up with brilliant plans. You may not be a highly skilled fighter but you knew how to work a weapon. “ Hey, Strik we got a job. “ He turned around to see you walking up wearing your assassin outfit that you always looked so beautiful in. “ What’s the job darlin’ ? “ Striker put away his phone and stood up. You told him the job was to kill some rich asshole who wanted to buy some stolen property. The Imp yelps and you stood up punching him in the face. Blitz glared and tears brimmed in his eyes and the two of you started fighting. Not even hearing the loud gunshot that went off. The two of you threw things at each other and kept throwing punches. The large door swung open as you and Bliz stared at each other. “ Sir! “ Moxxie said. “ Blitz, Striker is here! “ But both of them stopped and stared at Blitz and you. “ Striker… “ You said softly. Blitzo glared and ran at you. You got out of the way and did your best to fight Blitz but he was just as good and strong as Striker. Seeing him flirt with you made me boil up and then when he smacked your ass. You may have lost your friend, but you had Striker a boyfriend a friend. You smiled letting both of your guys' tails wrap together, it was time to let go of the past with Blitz because you wanted your future to start with Striker.

I wanted to write out this little post of any general questions about this event. Please give it a read if you're interested in participating! 🧡

What is F/ovember?

F/ovember is an f/o takeover event spanning for the entire month of November, from the 1st to the 30th, where self shippers are encouraged to give their f/os control of their blog for the month.

What's an f/o takeover?

An f/o takeover is a one-person event that used to be pretty popular in the self-ship community, where bloggers give their f/o(s) control of their blog (a.k.a. you essentially get to roleplay as your f/o) and invite their followers to ask their f/o(s) questions, typically about their self ship.

I've never done an f/o takeover before! What are the rules?

That's the beauty of this event; the simplicity! The basic guideline is that your f/o is the one answering questions, but the rest is up to you! That being said, there are two rules that I encourage everyone to follow:

One, if someone sends you an ask, send one back to them if they're participating as well! It's good ask karma and you might make a new friend out of it too!

Two, please do not write your f/o saying mean or hurtful things about you. If it's a lighthearted jab or part of your lore, then thats a slight exception, but they would never say anything genuinely hateful about you, I promise 💝

Do I have to keep up the takeover for the entire month to participate?

Not at all! You're encouraged to have the takeover on your blog for the whole month, of course, but you can do it as long as a week, a weekend, or even just a single day. You can even do it for a week, drop the event, and then pick it back up later in the month if you'd like to!

What if I want to do the takeover with only a few/one of my f/os, or do the takeover with only a certain type of f/o (platonic, familial, etc)?

Then do it!! You're allowed to use as few or as many f/os as you want, and any type of f/o you want! You can even switch which f/o or what type is answering questions from day to day (i.e. having a day/week for all platonic f/os).

Who is running/moderating this event? Who is allowed to join? How can I sign up?

I came up with the event idea on my own (my name's Ruby if you don't know me, hi :3), so I suppose that technically makes me its sole moderator, but that is only in the most loose of terms. This is being held on each person's individual blog, so there is no type of sign-up process required! However, that also means there's not much I can do against someone joining other than blocking them and advising others to do the same.

Sorry to bother (and sorry if I come across as hostile, this is very /nm) but I'm confused about the AI policy. You guys rightfully point out that feeding another person's work into an AI and posting the result will be disallowed because it's theft. But other AI works will be allowed, even though every single AI that's currently publicly available to people is trained on works (art or writing) that are scrapped without the creator's consent. Even AI that people use to just 'enhance a work' as you guys put it, does so by comparing said work to the scrapped pieces the AI was trained on. Which were stolen.

So what you're basically saying is people aren't allowed to steal themselves, but they're allowed to use a tool made from stolen works? Where's the sense in that?

I'm honestly very disappointed. In the past year, fancreators (and creators in general) have needed to jump through increasingly tight hoops to keep their work from being fed to AI against their will, and it still happens a lot. And now there's this big event that is supposed to stand in solidarity and be /for/ creators, and you're going to allow people to use a tool that in its current structure is inherently amoral and exploitive of other creators?

Why make the decision to not reblog it, but still allow it in the event/tag/collection on AO3? Why not say it's not allowed at all and block everybody who does put it in the tags? I /gen do not get why. You say it's nuanced but I do not get what's nuanced about "every AI currently available is trained on scrapped works"?

I've been participating in Whumptober every single year since 2015 and I'm very sad that if this is the mod's decision I will not feel safe as a writer to participate this year, knowing people in the tag/collection are allowed to post works that involve AI. I really just want clarification as to what is the 'nuance' that led to this decision???

AI tools are used in visual art to create effects, backgrounds, and other enhancements, so to say we're banning AI is like saying we're banning use of Photoshop. AI is used for the predictive text and spellchecker that's running while I type this reply. Accessibility tools rely on AI. People train their own bots on their own works to produce conversations with characters or role play a situation before writing prose. These are all legitimate uses of AI tools that we feel allow inclusivity to this event.

The mods cannot and will not police every single posted work for AI involvement. You don't have to post your work to be a participant. You don't have to prove you created 31 fanworks in October. You don't have to include your work in AO3 collections, or tag it, or strictly follow the prompts, or anything really. This isn't a contest and there aren't cash prizes. This event is about challenging oneself and being part of a community of fans all doing a fun fan thing together across different fandoms.

This mod is an English teacher and LOATHES ChatGPT as cheating. I agree with you that bots are trained by unscrupulous people scraping text without permission and it's shitty behavior. But we can't stop that, nor can we undo damage already done, and banning AI use (especially since we can't enforce it) is an empty stand on a hill that's already burning, at least in our view of things. And it alienates those who use AI tools for accessibility or any of the reasons cited above.

Once again, you do not have to post anywhere to participate. If you're worried about scraping and you don't want to lock your work, don't post it. It's always been the case that if you post something on the internet it can be used by others in ways you neither intend nor condone. It sucks that people are like that, and you have to do what makes you feel safe and comfortable, and that's OK.

If this stance is disappointing, we're sorry you feel that way. If you have a policy that is effective and still inclusive to all participants, we're happy to hear it.

no cus i totally understand your frustration, ive also quit splatfests for the moment until they get an overhaul

i suggest if you feel close to getting hateful to either shiver or shiver fans then maybe quit for a while for your own sake cus ive felt a lot better after doing so, im still really sensitive to negative comments towards frye or rude ones about shiver winning but taking some time for myself has made me feel infinitely better

ive been close to hating shiver before bc of how cocky and rude them and their fans can be but it doesnt really do anything but sour your enjoyment of the game more, so its really not worth it

Hello Tarot family! 💜

So this is something I've meant to address for a very long time already but only now coming around to. It feels like it's the right time to address this topic.

So as you all know, many tarot readers have complained about not feeling appreciated and that there are too many "pests", as some of you call them, who send everyone the same question, never giving back feedback or only give feedback to the popular tarot readers. And in general tarot readers have complained, how doing tarot readings takes time and energy and some experience doing readings as something even draining to them and so they've spoken about this, how the mininum the audience can do is give feedback. Many go as far as saying giving feedback is mandatory or the participants not giving it will get blocked. But let's be honest, they can just create new ones and there are always plenty, who'll do the readings.

That said, I want to talk about the fact of how everything could be so different and about how actually we can as a matter of fact experience a real positive tarot community. Because I've seen it. And what it all comes to is respect. There are some countries, where Tarot is considered sacred, it's considered true knownledge and is viewed as a real profession. People actually respect Tarot and Tarot readers and see Tarot readers as true professionals. For example in S-Korea there are real tarot teachers, who teach about tarot reading, and they go deep. And people know that. Not to mention that people really care about their reputation so much and are so ambitious, there is no place for fakes and cons there. They do their studies, they are diligent and they take it seriously. And people know that. Tarot readers there know their job, and we are not talking about the more rare born as gifted ones, because that's a whole different topic. And so this respect there is towards tarot, people accepting and viewing it as a real profession also shows in the tarot community. It's so much positivity! Not only that, the community fully understands pac-readings are not an one-on-one private reading session, they even say it themselves sometimes that dang this time there was no pile for them. Because they know there won't be messages for everyone and everytime. It's just so different. They understand that zodiac signs and pac readings are not done with one specific person on their mind, only the audience can claim a reading and see, if there was anything for them. They know readings are more like showcasing. They understand, how the whole thing works. Yes, it's fun, and readings can be very insightful once you find a tarot reader, whose readings seem to resonate with you. And there is sooo much more that could be said. However, what I'm trying to say is you can't expect people to appreciate your tarot work, when those pests and the majority and even tarot readers themselves don't view tarot as a profession and only take tarot as a joke. To them Tarot is a world of entertaiment, where finally they can experience being the main character of a story. So I'd like to ask people to take some time and reflect on, how you view tarot and tarot readers, what are your beliefs and if you are a reader, what are your intentions. Do you do tarot for attention or money or because you think it's cool? And many seem to be into talking about the law of attraction and manifestation. This is why I used the comparison. Because in some tarot communities they view Tarot as a profession and respect tarot, and it shows in the community. But if you don't view it that way, how can you expect to have a tarot community of such positivity here? So if you want to see change, you'll need to become the change first.

Obey Me! Nightbringer "Absolute Zero" Pop Quiz

Okay sit down. I have thoughs (both good and bad).

This event did not start off not great... I don't mind another festival event persay cause it's cool seeing different events celebrated in the Devildom, but I didn't really get how this one worked. It's for the frost wolf 🐺 guy, to please/honor him. Dance (okay makes sense), Flowers (not surprising), Ice sculptures (Ooo fun), Fasting (alright). Except apparently only a few people need to participate in the fasting????

I personally have never participated in fasting, but I don't think it works that way normally?? (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

And idk this ^^ also seemed odd to me?

However, I do think think the story does improve a bit. I like that the frost wolf is trying to take us away because it wants the bond everyone has with each other. 💜 and there is a lot of cute individual moments.

The side character moments were fantastic! Love squirrels for one thing! Planting with Raphael and hanging up posters with Mephi also super sweet! Like Mephi is trying so hard to help Diavolo anyway he can. What a champ!

Diavolo was the star of this event for me 🌟 they really showcased his playful side! I was laughing so hard at these parts xD the music change on the ice sculpture one was splendid 🤣

Now back to some negatives... maybe I'm not far enough in the main story, but I think this event implies we live with the brothers. They lay on a bit too thick that they can't live without me. Why do I move to purgatory hall? Why can't I go back to my room in cocytus hall?? They can live without me... I can still visit?

These little 'activities' were fun and I liked how they fit the theme of the festival. But I think it would have been better to fill the lanterns with past good memories or memories of looking back at the festival instead of 'forcing' moments with the intent to fill the memories.

so i'm in a really weird position here. i'm not sure i'm capable of participating in transformative fandom anymore. i'm that burned out on ahipping.

i've been in the lupin iii fandom for the past couple years, as y'all know. at first it was a lot of fun. but there was a ton of really aggressive biphobia, a ton of the "anybody who writes or draws Icky Stuff is a sex criminal irl and must be loudly shunned by all right-thinking people", it got into "if you point out that no one on this show is canonically queer you are a pedophile and must be dogpiled on every social media platform we can find you on"... it's a really, really toxic place.

about a year ago, a streaming miniseries called "lupin zero" aired. it's very well done, very nuanced and subtle. this fandom couldn't find nuance or subtlety if it tried with both hands. lupin zero tells the story of lupin and jigen's friendship, if they met in school as teenagers. it's the only story i've ever seen that manages to show a primary friendship, a friendship with the narrative importance and the story beats you only ever see given to romance. it was -- it *would* have been, could have, should have been, incredibly important to me. i thought i had some representation.

instead, the entire fandom went nuts. they announced that lupin/jigen was canonically romantic (which is a complete misunderstanding of the show and the themes: it's cram-packed with cagliostro references, and jigen is set up as a clarisse figure at every turn, including the direct reference to lupin stealing their hearts). they congratulated everyone within earshot on "not being lied to anymore". they announced that "every queer" was happy to have the relationship "confirmed romantic". they announced that anyone who wasn't overjoyed was a homophobe. and on and on.

i've had to block the lupin zero tag entirely, because every piece of art or screenshot includes a caption like "that moment when you realize you're in love", "this means family as in married NOT as in brothers!", nobody can so much as mention it without aggressively pushing the "it's canon romantic" down everybody's throats. the arophobia is incredibly vocal and continuous.

Only two other people who were watching the show said so much as "it can be read either way", when I was crying out against the fandom-wide celebration that there's no place for me here. One of them is dead. I haven't been able to start writing on a new idea in the Lupin fandom since we lost her.

All I wanted was a little corner. A space where I could fiddle around with my own interpretations, maybe bounce some ideas off people. Be allowed to exist in peace. I wanted to celebrate a friendship that wasn't second best -- that mattered, in the way only romance is normally allowed to matter in this world.

I've spent the last year trying to find that space. It doesn't exist, *can't* exist. Romance is like kudzu here. You always have to be actively fighting it, and you'll never win.

I'm tired. I'm fucking tired. There's no joy left in this fandom for me. And I don't know -- I think about trying to pick up another fandom, about characters I like or stories I might tell, and I just can't. I can't bring myself to write a shippy story, not when it means aligning myself with more people who will probably also call me homophobic and anti-queer for not loving the exact same way they do. But that's what Leia and I write best, it's what we enjoy writing. And I don't want to take up the same exact fight for a tiny isolated box where it's safe to whisper that nonromantic, nonfamilial love might exist or even (shock horror) be love.

You mentioned making vc friends and I was wondering if you had on advice on going about it or how you did it? I would love to make some friends in this fandom but I get worried interacting with people that I’m being pushy or annoying

HEY so this is by no means a perfect guide to online friend making but here's my thoughts:

Create the content you wanna see and let people come to you. Post your headcanons, your meta thoughts, your 3 am feelings about your blorbo and tag them. Like-minded fans will eventually find you and follow you and then you'll have some mutuals, and that makes it a lot less awkward to interact!

Comment on your favorite creator's works. You don't have to write a book report but if your comment lets them know 'hey, you wrote X and i see this character in the same way!' they'll likely comment back and you'll have a conversation. And if you converse enough eventually they might do what I did to others and DM you about a wip and boom! Friends!!

Comment on people's posts and send them asks about interests you have in common off anon. Like I really liked @hekateinhell's armand/daniel fics and she's all about armand/lestat, and I figured well...if we both like armand this much then she can probably convert me to armand/lestat. So I just asked her off anon what there is to like about them, and then we started dm'ing about them because I was convinced. And then we were friends!!

Understand that sometimes people are busy and can't respond every time. The only time someone comes off 'pushy' imo is if they comment on 100% of someone's posts and then start sending 'sorry for annoying you' messages if they don't respond to every comment. I feel like this should be common sense but I've seen people get really upset if their favorite user doesn't respond 100% of the time that is what's pushy.

If you wanna write fic or make art, do it! Put yourself out there, participate in some events like the upcoming kinktober. You don't have to post on ao3 or whatever right away, you can just write something short and post it direct to tumblr or put your art right here. It's nerve wracking at first but I swear there's no better way to meet people! And everyone has to start somewhere so don't worry about quality, just make something and your passion for it will attract people.

Other than that I feel like all there is to it is to be yourself, put your thoughts/creative works out there and you'll attract similar people.

And like with anything online, be wary. There's bad apples in every group but don't let them spoil your good time. If I let the first shitty response to a post run me out of fandom I wouldn't have made it a month on here lol And if someone gives you shit then either they're a jerk and you don't want to be friends with them anyways, or they're really miscommunicating and need to figure that out themselves. Either way you're within your rights to block them or delete their response or just ignore it and move on.
