cannot resist using the polls to make up a little collaborative story lol.. Not sure how much I can keep it up with my low energy/health problems lol, but I'll try to draw a new picture (+ write a small text blurb and new action options to vote on) each day based on the past day's results, at least for a while. Kind of like a 'sketch a day' type challenge, except story based with votes choosing what happens next. :0

An open letter to @staff
I already submitted this to Support under "Feedback," but I'm sharing it here too as I don't expect it to get a response, and I feel like putting in out in public may be more effective than sending it off into the void.
The recent post on the Staff blog about changing tumblr to an algorithmic feed features a large amount of misinformation that I feel staff needs to address, openly and honestly, with information on where this data was sourced at the very least.
Claim 1: Algorithms help small creators.
This is false, as algorithms are designed to push content that gets engagement in order to get it more engagement, thereby assuring that the popular remain popular and the small remain small except in instances of extreme luck.
This can already be seen on the tumblr radar, which is a combination of staff picks (usually the same half-dozen fandoms or niche special interests like Lego photography) which already have a ton of engagement, or posts that are getting enough engagement to hit the radar organically. Tumblr has an algorithm that runs like every other socmed algorithm on the planet, and it will decimate the reach of small creators just like every other platform before it.
Claim 2: Only a small portion of users utilize the chronological feed.
You can find a poll by user @darkwood-sleddog here that at the time of writing this, sits at over 40 THOUSAND responses showing that over 96 percent of them use the chronological feed*. Claiming otherwise isn't just a misstatement, it's a lie. You are lying to your core userbase and expecting them to accept it as fact. It's not just unethical, it's insulting to people who have been supporting your platform for over a decade.
Claim 3: Tumblr is not easy to use.
This is also 100% false and you ABSOLUTELY know it. Tumblr is EXTREMELY easy to use, the issue is that the documentation, the explanations of features, and often even the stability of the service is subpar. All of this would be very easy for staff to fix, if they would invest in the creation of walkthroughs and clear explanations of how various site features work, as well as finally fixing the search function. Your inability to explain how your service works should not result in completely ignoring the needs and wants of your core long-term userbase. The fact that you're more willing to invest in the very systems that have made every other form of social media so horrifically toxic than in trying to make it easier for people to use the service AS IT WORKS NOW and fixing the parts that don't work as well speaks volumes toward what tumblr staff actually cares about.
You will not get a paycheck if your platform becomes defunct, and the thing that makes it special right now is that it is the ONLY large-scale socmed platform on THE ENTIRE INTERNET with a true chronological feed and no aggressive algorithmic content serving. The recent post from staff indicates that you are going to kill that, and are insisting that it's what we want. It is not. I'd hazard to guess that most of the dev team knows it isn't what we want, but I assume the money people don't care. The user base isn't relevant, just how much money they can bring in.
The CEO stated he wanted this to remain as sort of the last bastion of the Old Internet, and yet here we are, watching you declare you intend to burn it to the ground.
You can do so much better than this.
Response to the Update
Under the cut for readability, because everything said above still applies.
Tumblr media
I already said this in a reblog on the post itself, but I'm adding it to this one for easy access: people read it that way because that's what you said.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Staff considers the main feed as it exists to be "outdated," to the point that you literally used that word to describe it, and the main goals expressed in this announcement is to figure out what makes "high-quality content" and serve that to users moving forward.
People read it that way because that is what you said.
*The final results of the poll, after 24 hours:
Tumblr media
136,635 votes breaks down thusly:
An algorithm based feed where I get "the best of tumblr." @ 1.3% (roughly 1,776 votes)
Chronological feed that only features blogs I follow. @ 95.2% (roughly 130,077 votes)
This doesn't affect me personally. @ 3.5% (roughly 4,782 votes)

wait wait, what’s the change tumblr did to the reblog chains ? 🥲🥲🥲 I’m so lost
okay so basically, let's say you see a post on your dash
before the update, if you clicked on a url, you could do 3 things:
view that specific reblog on the blog you follow (A)
view the previous reblog on the blog A reblogged it from (B)
view the original post on op's blog (C)
Tumblr media
however, staff recently implemented an update where clicking on a url no longer takes you to that specific post. now, clicking on a url just takes you to the blog itself.
this means that you now get 5 things:
Tumblr media
view ONLY that specific reblog on the blog you follow (A) -> changed location near header. also, you will now ONLY see that post and nothing else
view ONLY the original post on op's blog (C) -> changed location near header. you will only see that post and nothing else. and ONLY if the op hasn't deleted it, otherwise it just shows an error
view the blog of the person you follow (D)
view the blog of the person D reblogged it from (F) -> option B no longer exists
view the blog of the op (E)
you might be thinking: "cool! i get more options so that's good, right?" well, no.
there are SEVERAL things wrong with this and it goes beyond the prev tags issue
1) first of all, it's counterintuitive that A and C changed locations to the area near the header, especially if your userbase was already used to the previous functions. it just seems like horrible UX design to me but let's put that aside for now.
2) as you can see, option B which allowed you to see the previous reblog of a post no longer exists.
now, if you click on the previous url, you will just be taken to their entire blog. you can no longer view the post itself.
someone asked staff about this, and they replied in this post that the change was INTENTIONAL and if you want to view the previous reblog you would have to "go through the notes view".
to borrow what someone else said:
Tumblr media
basically, this update just killed the prev tags culture in one fell swoop.
(sure, you can still use it to reply directly to the person you're reblogging from, but it's now literally useless to use "prev tags" for everyone else involved. sure, you can choose to copy tags or peer review them, but again, if people will have to copy them then the less people are likely to use them, and not every prev lends itself to peer-reviewing imo)
now, listen. i know not everyone likes the prev tags culture, but it just seems like such a poorly-thought decision to kill a culture that like... half of your entire userbase uses (see this poll as a quick reference) and that's UNIQUE to your site and sets you apart from other social media.
but it's also not even just prev tags. let's say you want to remove an annoying addition on a post's reblog chain? you can no longer do that.
however, i feel like this is the most important point:
regardless of how you may feel about the prev tags culture, the pure UI aspect of it should remain
what i mean by this is: even if you don't like prev tags, simply 1) being able to access the reblog chain, and 2) clicking on a post and actually have it take you to their BLOG (and not just a page with that one single post) is literally essential navigation.
this update threatens to drive down user engagement (which is already critically low) by making it harder to navigate. which is actually another point:
3) even if you click on A and C now to view those specific posts, it's NOT the same as it used to be.
before, you could view the reblog directly on the blog. so you could just scroll down and see the other posts leading up to it. now, you will be taken to a page where you will ONLY see that post and nothing else.
but also, you can no longer easily navigate other people's blogs.
you know how sometimes you would see like 50 notifications of someone going through an entire tag on your blog? that's going to happen a lot less, i'm afraid.
let's suppose you want to go to op's blog because they're an artist and you want to see more of their art. so you click on C and see that the tag they use for posts with their art is "#my art"
cool! before, you could just click on that tag and immediately view ALL of their art as long as the posts have that tag.
but now, if you click on that tag, it will take you to the ENTIRE tumblr tag with literally all the posts that everyone in the history of time has tagged with that specific tag.
now, to do the same thing that just took 2 clicks before, you would have to: click on C to view the post -> look for the tag you want to navigate -> click E to view their whole blog -> scroll and look for a post that just so happens to have that tag (the search function is literally useless) and hope to god that there's a recent one or you'll have to scroll for ages or simply give up -> if you happen to find it, click on that tag to navigate their posts.
you see how this is counterproductive, right? you see how this can literally drive down engagement with content creators, right?
if you make people's blogs harder to navigate, you will literally drive down the number of likes and reblogs on their posts, which have already been steadily declining for years now.
4) options D and E to view the blogs and not the posts are literally useless because you could already access other people's blogs before. you just had to click on their url to view their blogs starting from that specific post AND you could choose to just refresh it to view their newest posts.
either way, the change just seems completely unnecessary. and again, it's not just about the prev tags culture but about basic UI.
so what can we do about it?
i normally don't advocate for flooding staff with messages but i do feel like this is one of the worst updates staff has ever done (and that's saying something) and something needs to change.
even if they don't retcon the entire update, that's fine, but staff could at least add the option to view the reblog chain as a different feature (maybe even opt-in) for example. there are better ways to go about this than just axing an entire existing feature.
also, this same issue that makes it harder to navigate blogs needs to change. i feel like content creators will be especially affected by this unless this changes because you can no longer easily navigate their tags, so it will inevitably drive down engagement.
so please, contact staff and let them know we want a change.
you can contact support here!
here's a template for a possible message you could send, but feel free to edit it. (under category you can choose "Feedback")
Hi, I would like to politely request a change to the recent update that affects the reblog chain of posts. Regardless of the "prev tags" culture itself, the UI aspect of being able to view the reblog chain of a post is essential for navigation on this website. Even adding it as a separate, opt-in feature would be a huge help. Additionally, clicking on a post and then on one of the tags now takes you to the entire tumblr tag instead of the tag on that blog, which makes it harder to navigate blogs. Both of these issues have the potential to drive down user engagement by actively making it harder to navigate Tumblr, but especially for content creators. I hope you can do something to address these issues as soon as possible. Thanks in advance and have a nice day.
also, if you can and/or want, reblogs are appreciated to help spread the word!
that's pretty much the gist of the issue from what i've seen, but if anyone else has anything to add or a different way we could contact staff to make ourselves heard, please feel free to let me know!
TLDR: it's not just about prev tags, this update affects basic functionality and content creators as well

AITA for creating and running a gimmick blog?
A few months back, I was bored and decided to hop on the trend of gimmick blogs. Since I don't have any crazy skills like identifying cars or programming bots, I settled on something I thought was extremely simple: correcting typos. So I'll sometimes reblog posts that have typos in them and comment with corrections. I would only do this on posts that were already lighthearted or joking in tone; I would never derail a serious post with it. And I really haven't used it very often - maybe a couple times a week at most, just when I happen to notice a good candidate.
Well, recently I was inundated out of nowhere by a bunch of anons telling me this was a horribly offensive idea. According to them, I was insulting dyslexic people, non-native English speakers, people without access to education, and a whole bunch of other groups with these unwarranted corrections.
I had honestly never considered that angle, and I've paused using that blog so I can try and reflect on it. But when I replied to a couple of the asks asking for a better explanation of exactly how this was harmful - because I genuinely wanted to be informed - the vast majority of the replies, with few exceptions, were obscenely rude to me. I've been called classist, ableist, racist, and a lot of much worse words I don't care to repeat here. I blocked exactly two people because they were being extremely hateful in my notes, while still trying to engage with the more polite ones, but of course I still got accused of blocking and ignoring everyone I disagreed with.
The truth is, I'm still not sure whether or not I disagree with any of them on the actual subject at hand; I just can't deal with people being bitter and rude and assuming the worst of me. I tried to make it clear that I was more than willing to listen and have a conversation in good faith, but that has proved impossible.
So now I'm really hurt and really, really confused. I'm not going to just blindly trust a small group of hypocrites on the internet who claim they're worried about people's feelings while at the same time trying to completely villainize me as if I don't have feelings too. But I also understand that they might have a point. Sadly, politeness is not always correlated with correctness.
I absolutely do not want to continue running this gimmick blog if it's truly harmful and offensive to people. I've just never encountered this take before, and it was delivered with such vitriol that I had to take a break from tumblr entirely just to recover my sanity. So I'm hoping a much broader and less biased sample size will help to clear this up. I know an AITA poll isn't perfect, but it should do.
If I get a YTA verdict, I will delete the typo-correcting blog and stop immediately, no questions asked. If not, I'll know I just angered an extremely vocal minority that has no idea how to deal with conflict.
AITA?
What are these acronyms?

MY NAME IS SPELLED WITF AN E AND NOT AN A get it RIGHT!!
Tumblr media
hai! im rowen (he/him) and i draw thingse soemtimze!! im a queer (trans, intersex, gay) 17 (5-1-07) yr old furry artist :3 u probably know my blog for drawing many many silly kitties and miscilanious creechers, but i do other things!
i do requests (no ocs or fandom shit, ONLY silly) and i take commisions (i am working on a website to organize all the prices and stuff, but for now, just dm me if youre intrested)
i do all my art on mspaint (win10 ver.) unless explicitly stated otherwise, i just use the default pencil tool on 4px (the largest default size setting) witch is a round brush with no antialiasing
i use a drawing tablet, the XP-Pen Deco 1 V2 (Celeste, He/Him), and an ASUS Harman/Kardon i7 14.5 In. laptop (Chelsea, She/Her)
my blog mostly runs on a queue, witch is very long and only goes onse a day, so sometimes extremeley old artwork gets posted. for this reason posts that are recently posted are not nessasarily recently drawn. furthermore, asks sometimes take an extremely long time to post after ive actually answered them, so please dont resubmit things. (+ i have far too many askse to actually be able to answer them all. so asks that are very similar to things ive already answered, are extremely time consuming, or are just not that funny, are unlikely to ever be answered)
Tumblr media
rebeast : is for reblogs of other peoples content
rowencatfanart : is for fanart people have made for me (if you make any please tag it as such, as well as mention me in the post)
the beast speaks : is for all my original text posts
retchid opinions : are for my own text posts where i actually say things of value and have an opinion on topics
screaming and scampering : is for when i say bullshit that doesnt matter
consulting thea council : is for polls of mine
rowens serious art : is for serious rendered art of mine
rowens liddol guys : is for sillies of all kinds that ive made
biblically accurate rowen : is for art of non-kitty me, for blacklisting purposes (i like to not be reminded i am a person when im scrolling thru my own blog) mspaint animations : for when i animate things on mspaint (onion skin is for cowards i let my heart guide me) rowens animatics : are for when i make, animatics, its really self explainatory. rowens advertising : is for when i advertise my products or twitch or commisions or whatever. for blacklisting purposes the mewsifixtion : is for when i give out easter eggs 2 ppl who send me asks. asks for this are currently CLOSED rowensumptions : are for when ppl send me headcannons they have abt me thru asks S teir wimpering : for the text postre ive made that r actualey funny rows gross old ort : for when i reblog old art of mine i tag all asks with the username of the person who asked them, so if u want to find a previous ask of yours i answered you can just search your own username i also try to tag asks i answer with the date of when they were sent to me, and the date i actually drew them, because the queue can make this confusing,,, i cant really retroactively see the send date of posts i made before this tagging change, so some we will simpley nevr know,,, dates are written in american date format. so month-day-year i always tag the software i use for each artwork, but its pretty much always MSPaint (Win10), though i occasionally do image editing in Asesprite
Tumblr media
the gray and white kitty i draw most frequently is my catsona! he is not an oc and is specifically meant to represent me
i ask that you please do not use drawings of him as personal branding (such as pfps, banners, avatars, ect.)
the samething applies to my fursona, valentine, though his design changes too much to give an accurate ref for, i generally will specify in the tags
i am generally fine with people saying that my catsona is cute but please dont make any overly explicit comments about my fursona, or on my posts in general. i am a minor (i dont care if you say like, ouyhh bark bark i love men i get it hes meant to be attractive but use some common sense)
furthermore. for people who have blogs with alot of untagged sexually explicit content its best you dont interact with me, i have my age set properly, so i do not see sexual posts that are properly flagged, but if your posts ARENT flagged, and you interact WITH ME, then thats on YOU for exposing a minor for sexually explicit content
if you have minors DNI in your bio and make a whole song and dance abt how ggrrr!!! i block ageless blogs and minors!!! and then go and reblog my posts with sexual comments then thats on you. and not me.
i dont care that much frankly, about seeing joke posts abt penis or whatever, but there is a line. and if you are trying to curate a specifically adult space on your blog then you also have to put in the work to not intentionally loop minors into that
also. please do not act overly familiar with me, im a 17 yr old on the internet and not your friend. and while i am not opposed to meeting people on tumblr, there is a line and you need to actually build some kind of relationship with me before youre allowed to act like that.
u can find me on tumblr (duh) : @pastadoughie : my main @leftoverdough : is my reblog sideblog @scungledfiles : is the web graphics blog i run w/ my friend (@soggiedsocks) (though we havent been as active as of late cuz mentol ealness + i have been fopcusing moar on this blog) youtube : pastadoughie (i havent posted in 6 months ouhm, oops,) twitch : pastadoughie etsy : scungledthings (i also share this with @soggiedsocks, when contacting my shop you will most likely be talking to him and not me.) if you would like to contact me FOR COMMISIONS directly you can also do so discord : pastadough email : [email protected] PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ONLY BUISNESS INQUIRIES!! stupid shit should be sent via ask or tumblr dm. DO NOT FLOOD MY EMAIL!! i WILL block you!! --- Last Updated : 5-1-2024

Where in the world is Ribon?
As you've noticed, for the last about three months, the blog has gone back and forth between guest writers and queue. The blog was moved (without my knowledge) and longform writing stopped. Recently, girly.zyoshi also went on break. So where have I been? Is this the end of Ribon-tan and girly kei tips?
Short answer: No. I'm not quitting girly tips, and I don't intend to any time soon. That being said, some things will be changing.
When I started girly-kei-tips, it was a spin off blog of girly-kei-otd, in the style of old school jfashion blogs like fairykeitips, lolitatips, menheratips, etc. I'd been wearing Girly and lurking in the "larme kei" community for years, but what finally pushed me to gather resources for people looking to get into the style was the overwhelming influx of misinformation about a select few substyles and silhouettes. The jfashion community has grown in the years since tiktok, and with it has grown the number of newbies and misinformation- as well as a new "veterans correcting incorrect info is elitist gatekeeping" sort of idea circulating, at first most prevalent with baby gyaru, then lolitas, and now with menhera and Girly. I wanted to find a way to teach people new to jfashion about Girly and create a community of wearers that was as active as the "larme kei" communities of the mid 2010s were. So after an interest poll on girly-kei-otd, I wrote my first major article about the (at the time) current misconceptions newcomers to Girly had.
It circulated much faster than I expected it to! Of course, since posting that I have been bombarded with harassment, from simply reblogging with such creative stantwt-esque rebuttals as "me when i lie" to attempted doxxing, death threats, and full blown conspiracies trying to assert that I'm actually like 10 other people, not really mentally ill, hate Japan, dont really wear jfashion, etc. However, that's never effected me as much as seeing the information I translated and broke down reaching platforms I'm not even on, and encouraging people who were new to or had stepped back from Girly to rejoin the community! This only motivated me to keep going, so I did!
However, no amount of passion for something can entirely combat the reality that I am a mentally ill and disabled person who has been juggling recovery, university, a job, an irl social life, and suddenly being thrust into the position of "spokesperson for the Girly community". I became incredibly burnt out due to the sheer amount of having to repeat myself over and over, as well as a lack of energy due to struggles with mental and physical health entirely unrelated to the project. When I had an unrelated severe bpd episode, I knew I needed to temporarily step back. I had two friends who run their own jfashion projects take over for me so I could focus on survival and recovery- but it had an unintended consequence.
Unfortunately, the most common conspiracy theory used to devalue any information I give or agree with is that I am the entire Girly community, and the menhera community as well. So, when the responses from my blog seemed less like Ribon and more like runners of other popular blogs, this seemed to validate that belief in some. On top of that, language barrier issues as well as differences in opinion lead to seemingly contradictory information coming out of girly tips. Suddenly, every time I was meant to come back, I had to deal with another misunderstanding, edit another post, freak out thinking my blog was deleted when it was actually moved- no one was being malicious, there were just too many chefs in the kitchen, so to speak. This just made my mental state deteriorate even more, and make me feel even more unfit to resume activities.
This level of burnout lead me to take the extended break that I took, and starting girly.zyoshi really helped me get out of that rut- but then Instagram began to not show our posts. Apparently, this is common with kaiwai accounts- frequent posts with similar hashtags get marked as spam. After discussions with customer support, the solution was to take a break from posting so that the account doesn't get nuked before starting back over. Unfortunately, combined with my absence from the blog, this made it look as though I had abandoned my projects entirely.
So, what now? Well, I'm going to be back to making original posts and answering questions again. However, to prevent a burnout from happening again, it's never going to go back to the insane frequency of original articles I was putting out in the beginning months. The kaiwai account is also resuming activity- but limited to 2 or 3 posts a week! And yes, the Discord, which was deleted many months ago, will be staying down. To make up for this lack of original content, I'll continue to leave the blog running a daily queue as well between posts.
While I have the opportunity to do so, I'd also like to make one thing clear, AGAIN. I do not hate mentally ill people. I do not hate people who "fit" the landmine stereotype. This is a fact that seems to have been overlooked in favor of the "don't listen to that person, they just hate people who struggle" approach to combatting the information I provide. I also do not condone harassment, EVER. I don't care what for. Before deleting the Discord due to member safety concerns, I had to re-enforce that rule many times. Someone identifying as jirai or spreading the misinformation that jirai is a fashion or a movement is ABSOLUTELY not an excuse fo make fun of them. If you came to the conclusion that it is justified to bully people who post misinformation because of my blog, you have severely misread the purpose of my blog and I do not want you here.
I myself am severely mentally ill. I struggle with many aspects of illness that are the most fetishized in the landmine lifestyle. I have diagnosed BPD, as well as a severe dissociative disorder and cPTSD. I am not against mentally ill people doing their best to survive. I am not "anti" anyone's coping mechanisms- after all, even bad coping mechanisms are better than no coping mechanisms and can be the difference between life and death. I do not have anything against people like me- people who struggle to maintain healthy relationships, who struggle with chronic suicidal ideation, who have mood swings, etc. I have nothing against people who are stuck in unhealthy lifestyles because the alternative is death. My issue is the trying to make struggling with these illnesses and living dangerous lifestlyes cute and trendy- which is what the Japanese jirai scene is all about. Wherever you are in life- if it's living a "landmine lifestyle" of binge drinking and unsafe work, or if you're coping healthily, or somewhere in between- it's okay. You're okay, and I'm proud of you. What's not okay is trying to sanitize what the lifestyle and term are- they aren't feminist, they aren't safe and fun, they aren't cute and desirable. And it's also not okay to try to spread misinformation about fashions to try to support this Western fanfiction that there is a feminist fashion and culture movement called landmine about freeing mentally ill girls by denying that Girly/girly kei exists.
I hope this helps explain some things, but I haven't proofread. So please, if you have any questions, anon asks are on for the time being. Thanks so much for your support, and I'm excited to see you in a text post I have in the works! -Ribon

As always, I'm very happy to accept feedback on how you think the blog can improve. I haven't yet missed a day but there have been plenty of other mistakes! (Although if tumblr would stop randomly posting some polls instead of leaving them scheduled when I make an edit, that would be great! The irony - it even happened with this poll two days before it needed to post.)
Here are some ideas from the last bonus poll and the responses. Do you have any other feedback? What would you prefer I prioritize? I do use this to direct the poll topics so feel free to share your opinions!
Focus on being conflict neutral (7.7%)
Focus on BTS member content (30.8%)
Focus on ARMY culture content (0%)
Focus on more fun/silly/light-hearted content (26.9%)
Focus on more serious content (0%)
Repost some of the old polls (7.7%)
All of the above (26.9%)
Thank you again for being here! It's a whole lot more fun for me when there are more people voting on the polls!

Obligatory Pinned Post Explaining Stuff.
Hi! So, I got really into the poll gimmick blog recently, and I remembered a time in which I only watched Criterion Collection films, so I decided to make this blog. I have NO idea what I am doing, or if I'm gonna do that bracket "most watched films," and "least watched films" thing, but we'll see where this goes! I wanted to do a horror film one, but then I figured that maybe this was better, cause I think horror's probably been done already (I hope this haven't, I haven't checked, but if so I'll delete cause why have two of this blog? I'll just follow the other one). (And yeah I'll vote too, but don't tell anyone!) There are 1500+ titles in the criterion collection. I'll try to put five out twice every week, at different times of the same days (Tuesday and Saturday), so I don't burn through them too quickly.
A few things I feel like are gonna get asked a lot:
1 - Can you tag the film in the poll?
Unfortunately no, sorry, because then I run the risk of hitting an obscure fandom, and then a lot of people from that fandom are gonna come in inorganically and trash the results (not that I think a tumblr poll is an exact science, but I mean, still).
2 - Do you take submissions?
No, cause this is a Criterion Collection tumblr only, but thanks for offering!
3 - Where are you taking this list from?
IMDb, and I'm going in order, so you guys get some spoilers if you go there, but I hope it's still fun!
4 - Can you please delete x movie because x person did or was x thing...?
Unfortunately I can't account for every single artist that did something really bad in any of these movies, so all movies are gonna be posted straight, as they are. If you don't like some of these artists, as I'm sure I'm not gonna like some, then don't vote.
5 - What can I call you?
PB, (she/her).
5 - *Mean spirited comment that completely misses the point that this is a tumblr blog for fun*
*Growls at you*
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy your time here!
Also:
Be kind, reblog!
(For max sample size).

Hello!! For those of you that don’t know my blog is @isuckatwritingsobenice!! Recently I hit 500 followers and due to the poll I did, we all decided to do an event at 500 followers so here we are!!
I wanna say thank you to everyone who has ever interacted with my blog, liked or reblogged any of my posts, or followed me! I’ve been on tumblr I want to say for about two years, and building and being apart of a community of such fantastic readers has given me such joy so thank you so much for this opportunity!
Rules about the event are listed below!!
Tumblr media
𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝑭𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅!!
For this event I wanted it to be as open as possible! So I will be taking requests for this event. I have posts out currently with prompts, all of which are sorted by category.
We have Fluff, so mostly light content. There’s also an NSFW prompt list, and a Yandere prompt list! A list below will be some Au’s ( alternative universes ) I write for. Please note these are all based on comfort level, so if you see an AU that isn’t here, it’s most likely because i’m not comfortable in writing in that AU just yet!
Rules:
Please only request a max two prompts at a time. Prompts can be from any of the prompt lists given above. An example would be a prompt from the fluff prompt list and one from the NSFW prompt list, or two from the NSFW prompt list.
Please be specific in your request!! Simply adding your prompt and what character you want don’t really help me know what you want me to write!
My limit is two characters per request!! So you may request two cheaters with two prompts, one for each, or both prompts for both characters!
I do take my time writing! I’m very critical of my work and try to keep it as clean and smooth as possible. I only feel comfortable publishing my best at times, and as this is my time doing an event I want to make sure the pieces are good so please be patient!
As of right now the event is only Character x reader, so no character x character or character x OC
If I feel uncomfortable or disconnected to a request I will decline it respectfully. I usually don’t do that, so I don’t believe it’ll be a problem for me during the event but just to put it out there! Sometimes a request might take too much time or too long to complete and I might postpone it or scrap it for the sake of the event.
Other than that I don’t think there’s anything else worth mentioning! For fandoms to request from see my Navigation!!
AU List:
Modern Au:
Canon verse:
Idol/Fame AU:
Other options:
You can also request a certain time period/ decade!
Prompt Lists:
Yandere prompt list
NSFW prompt list
Fluff prompt list

Poll idea - In the most recent update, they fixed the name of the Splatana Stamper Nouveau, which had been previously incorrectly translated as the Neo Splatana Stamper. This isn't the only weapon with an incorrectly translated name. Two other weapons with incorrect names exist - one from Splatoon 2, and one all the way from Splatoon 1. Since these names have been around for much longer, should Nintendo go back and change these names now?
Context for those who don't know what weapons I'm talking about:
The first brella weapon is called the "Splat Brella", which implies that it was made by the Splat brand that makes the other beginner weapons. This is incorrect - all brellas are made solely by the Sorella company, and the weapon's second kit name (the Sorella Brella) properly reflects this. According to the wiki, the most direct translation from Japanese would be the "Parashelter", although a name like the Para Brella would also work as a new English name.
The Splattershot Jr. line is based on something that is familiar to Japanese culture, and doesn't exist in American culture. Instead of a sticker that says "Student Driver", there's a particular green and yellow bumper sticker that means the same thing, and is generally known as an indicator of a novice. In Splatoon, that same color scheme is on many beginner gear, including the unique ink tank of the Splattershot Jr, and a similar yellow and orange sticker that means "Older / Elderly Driver" can be seen on the side of the Custom Splattershot Jr.'s main weapon. The word Custom again has a specific meaning and incorrectly implies the weapon was made by the Custom brand, who famously make extremely heavy weapons like the E-Liter and Hydra Splatling. In Japanese, the regular Jr. is known as the Fresh Leaves Shooter, while the second kit is known as the Maple Shooter.
Do you think these two weapons should be given a new name that doesn't incorrectly imply they were made by a different brand?
Please Reblog For a Bigger Sample Size!
Thank for the suggestion, this is a very creative and specific poll! My favourite!
And please rambling is always welcomed and encouraged on this blog!

I’m sorry you’ve been feeling defeated! I can imagine why but the lack of engagement definitely doesn’t have anything to do with your lack of talent. You have such a gift with writing! I can imagine it can have a lot to do with people being shy >\\< especially given the context of your writing. It’s raunchy but my gawd it’s the perfect level of raunchiness if you know what I mean. I’m super excited to read the continuation of the deviated fluffy AU and all ur future works. Don’t doubt your gifts as a writer I appreciate you
Thank you!
I understand the shyness aspect and felt it myself at times. But it feels like people just don't care at all. Read more for the rest.
I think the idea of "engagement" is often misinterpreted to be a tall order. No reasonable writer or blogger expects people to comment on every single thing they create, start conversations with them, or write an elaborate essay or even a paragraph about their works. It would just be great to receive a few words now and then or some feedback on how the content is delivered. For people like me, it's quite rare to get that kind of engagement. I just want to hear something, anything. Anon or not, I would love it.
It becomes so easy to start thinking that what you wrote isn't good or if what you wrote makes little sense when all you have is the void. Think about it, when you keep throwing things into the void and getting crickets in return, you too will start to think if it's worth the effort anymore. Believe me when I say it's a ghost town when it comes to the actual content. One of my recent fics/scenario I wrote has almost 100 likes so far, and yet only two reblogs as an example. Likes don't tell me much. For all I could know, people could've ACCIDENTALLY pressed the like button due to the nature of tumblr being mostly used by mobile users. Reblogs are great because they make a difference in gaining more visibility for the work. The same idea of giving a few comments also applies to reblogs; occasionally doing so is both appreciated and helpful for visibility. And no, I'm not talking about the "algorithm and how it devalues likes" doomer stuff, both likes and reblogs help it.
Honestly, I really enjoy discussing characters, the AUs, analyzing them or other canon things, and sharing my thoughts on the things I write when those rare asks come and I would love to see more of these... A lot of these things I write aren't made out of thin air, you know. It would be amazing to hear more stuff like your favorite Sephy or if you enjoy a certain type of story or darling I've written, etc. I want that sense of connection and community, but it feels like I'm just a writing machine most of the time. I was hoping for something more meaningful... And I've tried, with posts like the ask games, polls, blog updates or the musings, but nothing seems to work, really.
I do think most writers or bloggers want a feeling of community, which is one of the reasons why they post their works. And I don't think it's unreasonable to want that.

Just to explain the culture and differences of media's and why I'm hesitant to explore new social medias
Tumblr is the first social media I took part on
Back in 2015 as a high schooler I wanted to take part on the people excited about content, however I found myself getting the feeling of constant reaching into a void.
Tumblr is and remains a algorithm nightmare for new skill creators, to get any follows you need to reach out beyond likes and reblogs, your blog should clearly show your content type and people will reblogs if they feel comfortable enough with you and like it enough but good luck getting interaction. It had the purge moment and it became an even larger void until recently. Currently under 3000 followers (note this is the one I've been on the longest).
I then naturally looked for other social medias for more interaction DeviantArt
There are only artists there and frankly not even a good space to place a portfolio go to Artstation if you want to have good examples of portfolios and find jobs for it. DA is more a mess than ever and with the Ai situation there is nothing but lack of respect to the creators. Currently under 300 followers
I looked into Livestream areas for artists Picarto
It's a space where people talk while they draw and found friends on those spaces but the spaces are quite small in audience and still quite niche to artists. Twitch came by storm and the picarto is still used but overshadowed. Last I checked I had under 100 followers (but only 5 views a stream)
Twitch I also looked into to watch artists who transitioned over
The space is well, more like an entertainment center they have themes and you pick and most people are more likely to pick the gamers than the artists. Unfortunately. Also under 100 followers and under 5 views a stream
I found Instagram around 2017-18 ish? I didn't like the format in comparison to Tumblr the requirement of images or videos for post but I kept it anyway.
It's necessity for images requires more action from the poster and their algorithm (at the time) was fairly reliable, tags were helpful they got your posts to people who searched said tags. Stories were also very nice, I could share thoughts and polls and doodles without a worry of making my posts messy. I broke 10k followers on Instagram. Then they changed the algorithm and tried to imitate TikTok and it feels like a mess. Currently at under 16k followers.
I tried TikTok for a hot second mainly because people were stealing my art and nope, i already do so much work making the art I don't have the time as a college student to make it video appealing as well. I think I got 200 follows for the short time I was active.
So on to Twitter.
I have made the most friends and enemies here. The space is designed for people to interact, you see the good and bad of your favorite topic. You can have group chats polls threads and posts and gifs. Currently it's on fire. I liked the format I entered with the mind I wasn't going to be maintain an effort of aesthetic or worry over follows like I was with Instagram, which was the right mindset to have. I made a goal to interact with people without a care of them not responding and after a year people actually responded the space grew on me. It was nice to be acknowledged of the years of effort I put into art skills, I didn't see bots on my posts and I made connections with cool artists and writers. Currently at 13k followers.
Most recent media I've entered is discord
I created a discord but I don't qualify it as a social media. It is a group media you make a little spot for you and your buddies and if you already have a large following from somewhere else then it's for you and that group. And it be as helpful as possible or as cultish as possible. Cause it's just a group of people and the rules they established and that's the reality you live in. Currently my discord is at just over 100 followers.
Other website I've been on are simply not worth mentioning they simply faded in the moment, require other skills, not meant for artist, or are Facebook (and yeah don't 🙏)
So there you go I played my best cards on every space as a learning online artist but I wouldn't lie and tell you to go to Instagram or Twitter to gain a following even tho they both have my highest followings they have turned into a wild fire of destruction or brainlessness. Instagram literally with have the same video by 6-10 different people and it drives me crazy. Twitter is burning in Musky fires and who knows if it's breaking as I post. But I am here waiting for a social media that doesn't exist. Because the problem is this.
New social medias don't exist. Not in the eyes of the nonartists. Most of them see twitters down and go awww then open up Instagram and scroll through reels. Artist are scrambling. We literally have no clue where to go. Most of the artists who make money do so because of content cannot turn to Tumblr or insta because their income is in more mature material. And these two places will panic cause you posted two boys kissing with no shirts then punish you if not kick you out.
New social medias even the ones fine with that kind of content need the flow of audience. People online will not care unless the media style has something that make everyone feel valued in a new way.
The new way whatever that may be should happen soon tho cause we all out here dying and looking for audiences to consider commissioning us or following us on Patreon (another group media btw)
Anyway if you read this whole thing sorry to not have a space to go but stay calm there's good people who will figure it out.

poll results!! I got 43 votes. Almost didn't reblog a third time, because the second reblog got only one addition, but y'all surprised me with 10 new votes this time! So small turnout but it's to be expected, I mean I'm not convinced the other 9&% of followers really exist x'D
Assuming those votes are all from people who do actually follow me, that means that about 2-3% of my followers participated bahaha. What can I say, I've been here for ten years, spent most of it stewing in my little corner, and only talk when I'm angry *cough* The majority of people I knew back in the days of tumblr yore have moved on, but their blogs remain. RIP friend blogs. I still remember you, girl whose username I never figured out if it meant a cute story about penguins or a horror movie about a ravenous penguin-zilla
I was kinda curious to see if any of the mysterious followers who joined more recently would speak up... But lurking is definitely allowed :P
The category which got the most votes was, predictably, fandom content... And mainly y'all said you follow for fandoms I rarely ever post about anymore haha. But I like the "now I just live here" vibe. Come on in, pull up a chair, sorry it's all soggy, I left the window open in the rain...
The second most votes went to "I don't remember" and you know what. I respect that.
Now I need to think of something more thrilling for my next poll...

HOW DO WE VOTE FOR MOST SLAY AKUMA HELP
I WILL HELP YOU NO WORRIES
Since you’re on anon, it’s possible you don’t have a tumblr account, and this might just be a poll for tumblr users.
if you do have tumblr and you’re just asking on anon bc you can, go to @anna-scribbles tumblr. She has a post with a link to the poll, which is a Google survey. You can only vote once.
I also actually reblogged the poll a ridiculous amount recently, and I’m surprised you didn’t see that, so you could also find it on my blog, but I would suggest going directly to the source.
I hope this helped! And remember to Vote for Party Crasher as Most Slay Akuma 2023!!!

Random poll that in no way has any bearing on a possible WIP idea:
If Mac were to have a twin brother, would he be:
A: a blind man who works with animals
B: a professional athlete
C: a therapist who was paralyzed in the same car accident that killed their mother
D: a secret agent for a different agency who is wildly reckless and doesn't have a Jack to watch out for him
E: none of the above

Happy Saturday! I had this scene pop into my head a couple of days ago, and I don't quite know what to do with it, so I'm posting it here for now. This is in the Reunited verse where Jack was captive for 5 years because Kovacs and Mac and Riley have a son named Jay.
~~
Jack let himself into Mac and Riley's house and quietly closed the door.  He'd heard from Matty that Mac took the day off because Jay was sick, and Riley was out on an op with one of the other teams, so he'd high-tailed over to the house.
Rounding the corner into the living room gave him his first glimpse of the situation.  The TV was quietly playing an episode of Spongebob – a show he'd become familiar with recently while looking after Jay – and the couch was occupied by a MacGyver men blob.
Mac was lying on his side with his back pressed against the back of the couch, and Jay was curled up in front of him with his back to Mac's chest.  They were still in their PJs and sharing a blanket.  Jay was clutching the plush horse that Jack had gifted him, but he barely looked over at Jack when he sat in the chair by the couch.
"Mornin'," Jack said softly.  He eyed the bucket he'd just noticed was set in easy reach by the couch, but it was empty when he craned his neck to peek inside.  "Rough night?"
Mac looked over at him with bleary eyes and nodded slowly.  "Jay caught a stomach virus, but I think he's getting better.  He's kept down some meds and Pedialyte this morning."
Jack spotted the half-empty Pedialyte bottle and a sippy cup on the table and nodded.  "And you?"
"I'm not sick, just tired."
Jack raised an eyebrow, but Mac met his gaze calmly, if a little sleepily.  He seemed to be telling the truth.  "Do you guys need anything?"
"Coffee?" Mac asked hopefully.
Grinning, Jack stood and headed into the kitchen, where he started a pot of coffee.  He made it strong, and Mac usually hated that, but if he'd been up all night with Jay, he needed the caffeine boost.  He also dropped a couple slices of bread into the toaster and poked around in the fridge to see if there were omelet ingredients.
He was debating how much sugar to add to Mac's mug when Mac walked into the room, yawning and stretching his arms over his head.  He grabbed the cup and downed it black, which was very unlike him.
"How long have you been up, bud?"
Mac glanced at the clock and grimaced.  "Twelve hours, give or take."
"I can stay with him if you want to go and get some actual sleep in a bed."
Mac looked over his shoulder to where Jay was sleeping on the couch.  "I might take you up on that for an hour or so.  If he feels worse or his fever spikes, just wake me up.  There's a thermometer on the coffee table."
"One that you haven't taken apart?"
Mac rolled his eyes but replied, "Riley says the child thermometer is off limits.  Always off limits."
Jack narrowed his eyes and stared Mac down for a moment.  "And how many have you replaced?"
"About five, but don't tell her."
"Secret's safe with me.  And don't worry.  Jay and I will be out here, watching TV and drinking our breakfast beverages of choice.  Do you want me to try and get some food in him?"  Jack grabbed a piece of toast that had just popped up.
"If he asks for something, you can give him some banana or applesauce.  He doesn't like plain toast."  Mac grabbed the toast from Jack's hand and took a bite as he headed toward the master bedroom.  "Thanks, man."
Jack took a minute to fix himself a cup of coffee before heading into the living room to sit back in the chair beside the couch.  Jay, now awake, looked over at him and waved with the hand that didn't have a death grip on the plush horse.
"Hey, cowboy.  Are you feeling a little better?"
Jay nodded.
"Good.  That's real good.  You want some more of this?" He leaned forward to grab the sippy cup next to the Pedialyte bottle.  It was about half-full, which Jack decided was good enough for now.
Jay nodded again.  This time he moved, sliding off the couch, walking to Jack, and climbing into his lap.
Setting his coffee on the side table, Jack helped Jay get settled in the crook of his arm.  He could feel the heat of the little boy's fever and worriedly pressed the back of his hand to Jay's forehead.  He was warm but not as bad as Jack first thought he was.  He handed Jay the sippy cup and picked his coffee back up.
Jack stared at the TV, not really paying attention to it, while he thought about how good Mac was with his son.  Jay adored Mac, and Mac cherished every moment with Jay.

WIP Wednesday 9/21
Thanks for the tag @rosieblogstuff :)
A little more FosterMac here. I know where this first story is going to end, so I have a goal! :)
~~
Jack glanced in the rearview mirror and saw Mac staring out the window.  He was fiddling with something in his hands, but Jack couldn't see it from his angle.  "What you got there?"
Mac held up a paperclip that had been twisted into the outline of a car.
"That's impressive, bud.  What other shapes can you do?"
Riley looked over and rolled her eyes.  "He does that all the time."
Mac glared at her. "It helps me stay focused.  The paperclips."  He slipped the car sculpture into his backpack and pulled out a new paperclip, which he quickly started to bend.
"Gives you something to do with your hands," Jack said with a knowing nod.  "I knew some guys in the Army who twirled pens or made origami animals.  Helped them think and kept them sitting still."
Mac dropped his paperclip and looked up at Jack in surprise like he'd never known anyone who understood it when he explained it.
Jack smiled and pulled into his parking spot in front of the Dalton-Davis house.  Diane's car was in the driveway, and Jack was glad she was home.  The three made a mad dash for the front door through the increasingly worse rainstorm.
~~
If you have not been tagged yet and have a wip snip to share, please do!

I was rewatching Scissors (S01E11) tonight. Can we talk about how Mac got Jack a Snuggie for Christmas? Is Jack cold a lot during movie nights at Mac's? Or did Mac want to give him something that was soft and comfortable? Because Jack is so often jumping in front of whoever is after Mac and getting banged up, so he's sore and surly unless he has a nice soft blanket. Or was it a joke gift because Mac didn't know what to get Jack? There are so many possibilities!

Meta: Mac's Army Service Uniform
I've been meaning to post this for a while, and I was finally able to finish up the last bit of research. I did a deep dive into Mac's Army Service Uniform because I was super curious what it would say about his Army service. These observations are based on screenshots from S05E05 Jack + Kinematics + Safe Cracker + MgKNO3 + GTO.

Here’s some resources to help you make text-based interactive fiction games!
Totally unprompted!  There’s certainly nothing going on in a certain forum right now (or rather an on-going issue).  Nope, I just thought it would be nice to share some resources.  ;)
-----
Twine
Twine is such an easy tool to use.  It uses its own scripting language Sugarcube (there’s also Harlowe and Snowman, but they don’t have the same functionality and creator support as Sugarcube does to my knowledge), Javascript, and CSS.
Twine is FREE!!!
Sugarcube literally gives you a save function (which does browser and save to desktop)!!!  Be the save-hoarding goblin you were born to be!
It’s criminally easy to make games with Twine.  They make it easy to make stats, relationships, and other info pages.  When setting up the paths you can literally see arrows pointing where they lead, you can move passages around visually so you can group them up by chapter/scene/etc......to be fair once your game gets BIG it can get messy and confusing.
I have coding experience prior to finding Twine, but I’m absolutely certain anyone can make great games with Twine.  If all your doing is making text-based ‘more story than game’ games, then you’ll be doing minimal coding (setting variables, if/else statements, using text boxes, etc) so you shouldn’t have any issues.
If you do have issues I’m 99% certain someone has had your issue before, and the answer is one google search away.
You can use Twine in your browser, just be careful to not mess with the data/cookies or you can lose your games (totally not speaking from experience)....archive your games often if you use Twine in browser.  You can also download Twine, so you can use it offline!

Twine
SugarCube v2 Documentation - Your new best friend.
With the Settings API you can add a mature filter, different style themes (great for light/dark themes and color blind themes...or just different themes to look cool), difficulty settings, volume control, etc.
HiEv’s SugarCube 2 Sample Code - An ever-expanding collection of code, tips, macros, widgets.  A good mix of fun and useful stuff.
^ Includes a great pronoun widget!!!  To be fair it’s not the most user-friendly widget at first, especially if you aren’t a coder, but in the long run a widget like this is a great tool for customizing pronouns.  It allows you to write a character in the code with one set of pronouns throughout the game ($They $are a great $person), the widget selects the correct word through an switch (aka a fancy if/else) statement when the character is assigned a pronoun......so when playing a female it would display as “She is a great girl”, a male would be “He is a great guy”, and nonbinary would be “They are a great person”.  You can add neopronouns this way too!
Chapel’s custom macros - Chapel has a lot of cool macros, but a lot of them are more advanced.  Very few have been useful for the kinds of games I want to make, but they may be useful for you.
r/twinegames - Twine has some older forums, which are still up (though not active) and have helpful answers on them, but the current forum is found on reddit.
w3schools - When it’s time to style your game, this will be your lifeline.  Even today, like...seven years after first learning CSS I still come back to w3schools all the time. !!!Twine has funky class/id selectors for it’s built in stuff so refer back to the SugarCube Documentation!!!
-----
Itch.io
Itch doesn’t take ownership of your content!
It doesn’t have DRM!
You can host your games for free, paid, or free with donation.
It does take a cut of your sales “The Company shall be entitled to a share of the revenue Publishers receive from Transactions which shall be calculated on the gross revenue from the Transactions“ (I’ve seen 30% but I’ve also seen “Lets you choose what to give them” so I’m not exactly sure how much their cut is).
THERE IS NO RESTRICTION ON CONTENT ASSUMING IT’S LEGAL (though if collecting payment you may be under different restrictions per the payment provider’s policy), so please make all the twisted, dark, disturbing, and/or sexual games you want!!!

Itch.io

r/interactivefictions
r/interactivefictions is a good place for game recs, coding/writing resources, etc.

Tumblr
Tumblr is...well we’re all on here so we know how tumblr is like.
Great tags to look at: #interactive fiction, #interactive novel, #interactive game, #twine game, #dev log, #IF, #if game, #upcoming game, #promo post
Tumblr is a great platform, but as every creator knows...Reblog!!!  Reblog!!! Reblog!!!  The lifeblood of tumblr is reblogging.
I’ve found SOOOO many games I would never have known existed through if-creator’s blogs just because they reblogged a post from another if-creator.
@interact-if and @iorifd are doing great work!  They collect games, share helpful coding/writing tips, etc.  Go show them some love!  Interact-if runs the subreddit mentioned above, and iorifd is working on a database for visual novels and text-based games.
-----
IFDB (Interactive Fiction Database)
IFDB is a database for interactive fiction games.  You can add new game listings, write reviews, make game polls, make game recommendation lists, etc.
IFDB seems to like their parser games (parsers being where you type in commands like “go west”, “open door”, etc).
It actually has a pretty good filter and ignore system.
Links:
IFDB
-----
Obviously this isn’t the end all be all of dev tools or hosting platforms for interactive fiction.  Ink is a scripting tool similar to Twine I’ve only heard of recently that might be interesting to you.  Ren’Py, although primarily a visual novel engine, can be used to make text-based games.  The only other hosting alternative I know is DashingDon, I THINK they only host ChoiceScript games and I don’t think you can sell through them, but it’s a good place regardless.
Cheers! :D
