this valentine’s day i would like to profess my undying, ardent love for the callistephus chinensis (china aster)! the flower that contributed to me giving myself my name!!

not only are they a part of the (superior in my opinion) family of asteraceae, but also the genus’ (callistephus) etymology is derived from the greek words “kalli-” meaning “beautiful” and “stephos” meaning crown. they have beautiful chrysanthemum-esque blooms and come in all sorts of colours (my favourites being purple and white).

straying away from taxonomy a bit, asters in general are one of the birth flowers for september (my birth month!). they symbolise hope, faith and wisdom. and according to greek mythology, astraea (“star maiden”: goddess of purity, justice and innocence) cried because there weren't enough stars in the sky and when her tears hit the earth, they caused asters to bloom! continuing to follow the greek myth, she was the last goddess to live amongst the humans after the golden age, symbolising the decline of hope for humanity along with the decline of the ages. she left and became the constellation virgo i believe!

some more fun fun facts, asters have a most frequently observed number of n = 9 haploid chromosomes (2n = 18 for diploid). the numerology of the word “aster” also happens to be nine and guess what! september is the 9th month of the year! is it obvious i really like the number 9? almost as much as i love asters <3

The Bluewind Inn sits near Cavalier cove and is owned by retired Marine Biologists, Rio and Jane Clarence. 5 years ago, this beautiful seaside manor was transformed into a Inn to be enjoyed by both locals and tourist.

The Bluewind inn is a multifunctional lot as it could be set as a rental lot, a restaurant, a pool, or a spa.

observations about joel (mostly speech stuff) and interactions with others bc ive been hyperfixated since the beginning of time (also theres alot of bs commentary im sorry)

general stuff:

very very british like extremely british

'bloody' and 'blooming' ALOT - when he's annoyed or shocked or offended (im gonna call this his pseudo swearing for the rest of this for convenience)

instead of very he says 'well' sometimes (e.g. "this bloody pico park music is well annoying) and "absolutely"

instead of really he says 'proper' sometimes so "stress is proper northern" etc

instead of 'i haven't' he says "i've not"

he gives an explanation for basically everything he does and instead of because he says 'as' alot

'to be honest' "i bloody hate woodwork to be honest" (sometimes he says 'to be honest with you' too)

'innit' occasionally "it's like waterslide innit"

'by the look of it'

he gets irritated really easily - "for goodness sake" and he'll start cutting himself off alot "this bloody-" and also his voice gets much more high pitched and his pseudo swearing gets way more frequent. also 'blooming heck'

(and also this isn't super relevant but when he gets mad all his friends start commenting on it and its the funniest thing- in the overcooked stream as soon as he starts getting annoyed everyones like 'oh here he is')

i didn't know if i should put this in a specific section but he says 'babe' alot - not just to lizzie but to jimmy like ALOT and also in general - i'll talk about this a bit more later tho !

pauses alot: in between words/phrases, and also before he answers questions (this is not as often but also if he wants someone to stop him- he was playing scrabble and was basically asking if someone could spell out vagina so he was slowly going 'and a g....and an i...and a n...' etcetc idk this isnt relevant i just thought it was worth mentioning)

he's kinda an oversharer 😭 ? (this is lh hes 31 im sure he shares what he thinks is appropriate) but at any given moment he starts giving details about his life- a kinda memorable example of this is in mcc26(?) when w*lbur made fun of his accent so he started telling a story about his grandfather and giving alot of details about him after he said he couldnt talk too much about it AND grian begged him to stop

repeats things (especially when he's annoyed) : "game's a bloody joke. game's a bloody joke"

he basically never says 'oh my god' its always 'oh my gosh' or 'oh gosh' sometimes its 'oh jesus'

his voice is generally higher pitched and more expressive in videos than in streams but this is more of a general cc thing than a specific joel thing

very confident in his builds (AS HE SHOULD BE !!!) and he'll share his thoughts alot : "i think it's come together really well" "lovely" "i'm really happy with it/with how it's turned out" etcetc

when he narrates he uses a mixture of 'I' and 'We'. what i've noticed is he uses I for his thoughts ("i feel like" "i think") and we for everything else ("we need" "we're quite high in the sky" etc)

it's really recognizable idk what to say

very northern: hes from yorkshire - his accent used to be stronger in his old videos but you can definitely still hear it (like its still super different from grian or like mumbo idk)

his 'th' sounds come out as 'f' (idk if this is an accent thing or a joel thing but he's talked about it and said his family members have it too)

again not sure if this is an accent or joel thing but when he says any word with 'con' he says it kinda differently- it's hard to describe but for example when most people say convention the 'on' sound is more like a 'un' sound? whereas with joel its very much an 'o' sound like in 'box' or 'coffee' (genuinely have no idea how else to explain it but in phonetic symbols- joel essentially never says /ʌ/ it's almost always /ɒ/ when its a 'con' word)

NICKNAMES !!! 'jim' is used alot - more than anyone else and one of the only people who calls him this. hes used 'mr neutron' too (idk how many times'

(he also doesnt actually say tim/timmy often and when he does its exclusively when grian is present)

typical british male friendship nicknames: 'lad' 'big man'

when he joins jimmy's stream he always says hi in a very dramatic way?? usually with a pretty deep voice (idk this is just something i noticed)

he calls him a loser alot?

(this might be more of a bad boys point) but joel is generally not that mean to jimmy? definitely he's meaner than he was a few years ago but that makes sense because they weren't as close but. he'll call him a loser and stupid/idiot sometimes but his main 'bullying jimmy' momentsare usually always when he's with someone else (usually grian, sometimes fwhip)

'what are you doing jimmy' or sometimes 'what are you doing with your life'

'babe' like all the time. once lizzie mentioned that they don't even really use each other's names alot because they just say 'babe' all the time

oli:

ok so joel really doesn't use that much like modern internet language but oli does and then joel will pick up on it (its cute but also horrifying sometimes)- he kept saying 'dogs' in reference to feet after oli said it

they flirt alot but differently to how he does with jimmy (hes more passive whereas with jimmy he initiates it more idk how else to describe it)

he calls him 'man' sometimes

he's also really giggly around oli theyre adorable

(tbh theres so much more to say about oli and lizzie but idk if i have the energy and time for like 10+ years of interactions rn - and honestly alot more for everyone else too but like.)

grian:

in general joel picks up on people's energy etc and mimics it alot but it happens so much with grian specifically - this sounds very weird but the more time he spends with grian in one go the more he starts to act like grian (especially with interactions with jimmy)

Final Fantasy VII - Episode 014

I swear, every episode I am learning how to manipulate the engine better as well as improving my eye for cinematography. Happier with this episode than ever! Remember to turn on CC for the dialogue!

(A note for people who prefer the spelling of Aeris over Aerith: the default subtitles list Aerith, her canonical name. However, all videos have been given English - Canada option, which changes nothing except her name. As the people who wanted Aeris were Canadian, it was only natural. This way, you can select English - Canada while watching via the Playlist starting from the first episode, and you won't have to select it again.)

[Chapter 08] Scenes 9-13

Well the obvious change here is the lack of time ghosts.

Invisible Whispers by Neocoretx is doing the heavy lifting here, however, even with the mod, the whispers leave behind a blurry residue and some conspicuous dust, which could be removed by turning particle emitters off (this had the added benefit of making the yellow materia behind the guard less eye-catching). You may see Reno with a hand on his waist in one shot - he's actually injured from a boss fight that happens in 7R that doesn't happen in this series (it would ruin the flowers!)

The shot where Cloud and Aerith run up the stairs and out of frame, only to appear as the camera lifts up to the beam, is my experiment for this episode - planning a camera path that crosses over multiple moments to quickly show progress through an area is a great way to save on run-time without compromising the feeling of traversal. Without that trick, it takes one minute to run from the bottom of the stairs up to the beam - with this technique, it takes 5 seconds. And looks pretty spiffy if I do say so myself.

The music is a continuation of Enter Turks from EC.

Scenes 14-15

The church has been modified by FantasyRaiderr to resemble its original design, and it looks great. Also, the plate above our characters is thanks to the great Skybox Switcher mod by Altezein.

To get the coverage, much like last episode, I set up over-the-shoulder shots and let ‘er rip for a few hours while I went dancing. I've created a nice shorthand for myself to organize the shots by which idle animations happen, to clearly see what I'm working with:

(Ironically, I didn't end up using any shots from this angle ^_^)

The music transitions from Enter Turks to a track from Remake which actually plays when you meet Aerith earlier (Episode 6 of this series). I only use the first four bars before transitioning to Remake’s version of Flowers Blooming in the Church which replaces the bells with a piano and has a more embellished accompaniment.

Scene 16

This 5 minute sequence has been pared down to a single ~30 second shot. I decided that fading the characters in and out gave a greater sense of adventure and traversal. The sequence where they’re shimmying along the pipe is actually me going in the wrong direction lol, it was on purpose - the goal was to give the sense of them travelling from right to left across the screen.

Scene 17

The church mod is on proud display in this shot, but something else is happening. The roof above Cloud is thanks to Skybox Switcher - but that mod has an error that is apparent from this vantage point alone - the section where the outer wall should be is missing the wall and worse, the lighting creates a kind of ghost-wall in front of an expansive desert. Can’t have that, so I hand-composited 82 frames to transition from the ceiling to the floor. Eagle-eyed viewers may notice some flickering of color in the sky, where my frame-by-frame compositing is glaringly amateurish. Hehe oops!

Aerith gives us a delightful cuss in the Remake version of this scene. I was tempted to include it, but my better angels prevailed.

Scene 18

Another transitional shot leads us down to solid ground. In 7R there’s a scene and a combat here. Snip snip.

Final Thoughts

This is a really pleasant episode to watch, I knew the travelling shots would be cute but I’m honestly quite enamored with them! I hope you like them.

Gonna take another short break as I get some real life ducks in a row and this is a lovely beat to rest on. My passion for this project will ensure that I don’t stay away for long.

There have been many gods and goddesses associated with flowers in general as well as individual flowers, sometimes combined with other ideas, sometimes just as floral gods themselves. Following is a small sample of these gods.

Chloris is a nymph who became a goddess among the ancient Greeks. She was kidnapped by Zephyrus, the god of the west wind, who is responsible for her promotion to goddess through their marriage. She is said to have breathed out flowers and springtime.

She was married to the rain god Tlaloc until she was kidnapped by Tezcatlipoca, the god of the night sky, obsidian, conflict, and hurricanes and forced to marry him. Amidst sprawling fields of beautiful flowers, Ibaraki also hosts Tsukuba Science City, Japan's premier research center and the home of Japan's space agency and numerous museums. Ibaraki is known historically for being the home of the Mito branch of the Tokugawa clan during the Edo Period and has long been associated with notable events in Japanese history. The first Nuclear Energy Research Institute was founded here in 1956. You can see space exhibits, actual space craft, and simulations at Tsukuba Space Center.

Outside of the major cities there are many natural areas to explore in the Suigo-Tsukuba Quasi-national Park. Hitachi Seaside Park is famous in the spring for its carpets of blooming blue nemophila. Kairaku-en is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan. Mt. Tsukuba is a famous night view spot with a view of the Kanto Plain, including Tokyo Tower and the Tokyo Sky Tree, with a ropeway for convenient access. Ibaraki is also a major producer of natto.

Fukuroda Falls (Fukuroda no Taki) - 袋田の滝

One of the three most beautiful waterfalls in Japan, Fukuroda Falls is a 120-meter tall cascading waterfall in northwestern Ibaraki Prefecture in the remote hills of the town of Daigo. It is also on the registered list of the Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan (determined by the Ministry of Environment). These falls are also called the Yodo Falls (Yodo no Taki) because the water stream falls on four large rock faces. It is also said that the renowned monk Saigyo Hoshi greatly praised the falls by saying that you should view the different beauty of the falls in all four (yo) seasons.

They are particularly attractive in early November with the peak autumn foliage as well as peak water flow. There are several different views of the waterfall, and you cannot view it in its entirety all at the same time. Within the Fukuroda Waterfall complex there are neon tunnels and elevators to take you to different levels and viewing platforms. It is said that you will be successful in love if you find a heart in the waterfall. There are also numerous hot springs nearby.

Monkfish Hot Pot - あんこう鍋

The monkfish (also referred to as angler fish, goosefish, depending on the source I found) is a prized delicacy of Ibaraki and is best eaten fresh. Because these fish are too soft and slimy to cut up on a chopping board, they are prepared using the traditional tsurushi-giri technique, which involves cutting up the fish while suspended from a hook. In Japan, almost all parts of the monkfish are eaten, including fins, skin, gills, liver, stomach, ovaries and flesh—referred to as the “seven tools of the monkfish” in Japanese. The steamed liver is called ankimo and is considered a delicacy that may be eaten alone, or added to the hotpot soup for extra flavor. Anko nabe (monkfish hot pot) is a seasonal favorite consisting of monkfish, vegetables, and flavored broth.

The rain batters the roof in varying waves of intensity, and Jathan’s rigidness ever-so-gradually washes away. I want to ask him what he thinks is going to happen—but that’s not right. I want to ask him something, but I don’t know what. No, I don’t want to talk about any of it. I just don’t want to be alone.

A line about a secret:

A small rectangle of leather—perhaps a wallet? No, the leather is wrapped around something else. Breathless at my own audacity, I inch the package out of its pocket. To extricate it fully, I have to bend my wrist at the most unnatural of angles.  Kor’s arm pushes back at me when I twist against it, the message of “Stay still, you idiot!” coming through as clearly as if he were smearing it into my mind like you would.

Chapter 8: Liar Liar Wielder of Fire

Azriel grit his teeth against the pain in his chest. He had gotten a few minutes of fitful sleep late in the afternoon but woke with tear stains glistening down his cheeks. He didn’t have to wonder what he had been dreaming about, only whether or not it was actually a dream. Between that and Nesta and Cassian’s … activities, it had been impossible to rest. After walking around without purpose for a few minutes, wondering why he hadn’t yet moved his bedroom away from Cassian’s, he found himself fighting the urge to fly off and go directly to the source of his nightmares. Ignoring it hadn’t worked, maybe if he faced it head on, something would change…. No. No, that was a terrible idea.  Instead, Azriel somehow ended up in the open air training ring just as dusk was settling in across the horizon, bruising the redstone mountain and the city below him in smokey rose and purple hues. He took long, unhurried strides over to the practice swords, letting his thumb make lazy, slow circles at the spot under his rib cage that had been aching since he opened his eyes. Those … dreams had been vexing him more and more often lately, leaving him pained and conflicted. He wished he could blame the anxiety on anything else. It would make sense that his brain was being over active at the mission Rhys and Nesta were about to embark on but he knew he couldn’t blame it on that. He tried and it hadn’t worked.  The wall of shadows wrapped tightly around that spot inside him stayed intact, so why wasn’t he able to let go of this uneasy feeling? That barrier should have cut off any lingering emotions. His first instinct was to blame it on his shadows. They had a strange sentience about them. Unless he sent them away for a specific purpose, they lay relatively dormant, like house cats in the sun without a mouse to chase. That rule only seemed to apply to when he was awake, when he was sleeping they tended to be more active, restless even. Sometimes even going a bit rogue and acting in what they seemed to think was his best interest. Maybe they had done something …  A groan of frustration rumbled in his chest as he chose a sword and began a methodical demonstration. It was a simple, quiet set of movements that focused more on precise placement rather than the heavy throws of sword play. Something he hadn’t done in a while and supposed now was as good a time as any. Each step took careful concentration and kept his muscles so tight that 30 minutes in he was already sweating. After 45 minutes he was ready for a break. Unable to focus, Azriel strode to the little table by the weapons to pour himself a glass of water. The pitcher shook slightly as his hand trembled, he grasped his wrist with his other hand and looked up into the night sky loosing a breath he had been holding tightly in his chest.  Encrusted with stars, the night had adorned itself overhead while he had been working. The sounds of the city far below drifted up to him occasionally, pleasant background noise as Azriel worked to calm his overactive nerves. This dream had been the worst in a long, long time. He knew it wasn’t really a dream, but there was nothing he could do. Nothing he wanted to do, he reminded himself.  His eyes fell closed and, at last, he got the relief he had been seeking. The shadowed wall inside him had solidified and the pain and worry etched in that spot had ebbed away completely. A moment of pure bliss. Just a moment, before a storm began raging inside of him. The soft smile that had bloomed on his mouth twisted into a violent grimace as that spot flared back to life burning him alive. Pain and fear and sadness and longing, emotions so hot that everything inside him began to melt and it took everything he had not to scream out as his knees slammed into the rock surface of the training ring, cracking the very foundation.

For anyone who's interested in this sort of vibe, I highly recommend the Cosmere setting by Brandon Sanderson. It's a big setting, but you can jump into any of the series without having to read a bunch of preceding stuff. Each series is mostly self-contained, with only subtle threads linking them together, so you can enjoy them on their own or as part of a larger whole, whichever suits your fancy.

If you want to get into it, I suggest starting with one of the following:

Elantris – A standalone book (for now). A princess arrives in the capital of the country with which she was to forge bonds by marrying the prince, only to be informed that he has died and she is a widow already. She is soon caught up trying to defend her new home from machinations by other nations, as well as seeing to the needs of those struck with a mysterious ailment... which has its roots in ancient secrets, and hides its own secrets more recent.

Warbreaker – Another standalone, which is available under CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 here. He released several of his drafts on his website, along with the final version, so fans who wanted to write could see his process. From the Goodreads blurb: "Warbreaker is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago."

Mistborn: The Final Empire – The first of the Mistborn series, currently composed of two trilogies. For one thousand years, the Lord Ruler has reigned with an iron fist. Ash falls from the sky, and no flowers bloom. A street waif becomes embroiled in the schemes of a group of rebels, who seek to overthrow the Lord Ruler, led by the only man who ever escaped from the Lord Ruler's deepest prison.

If you'd rather go for something massive, with a slow buildup and continent-spanning scale at times, go for The Stormlight Archive, which starts with The Way of Kings. It's much longer (the first book is 1,001 pages, and it only increases from there), but has to be my favorite of all of them for the sheer scale and oomph factor.

I love the idea of dead gods. Not in the sense of “hey i killed something supernaturally strong” but in the sense of “i killed it and it’s still a god.” It is still worshipped. prayers are still answered. miracles are performed in its name, even as it lies pierced by a thousand swords and burning with chemical fire. even as it drifts through vacuum, decapitated and bleeding molten rock. in cosmic spite of being shot through each eye and hurled into a plasma reactor, it still radiates the power of the divine in a way that primitive death cannot smother. the nature of godchild is not so simple as to be tied to the mortality, or immortality, of any living being.

and then all i have is musa and layla/aisha, i haven't decided if ima stick with the original name from the first 3 seasons or the first comic book season. because in the first 3 seasons of the show it was layla, but in the comic books when bloom went to look for her sister after saving cloud tower students and mrs griffan from the trix and sky and her got lost in the woods layla makes her first appearence in the comics in her fairy form and her name was aisha but when she mets the winx in the second season of winx she goes by layla. so i don't know if i show go by the first name she had in the comics or the name she held for 3 seasons before he was reverted back to her name, they both are beautiful names for my favorite winx member.

but i don't have to change much of her i just want to change her shoes and top some and for musa it is her top, i will upload her shoes first because i am working on them right now while i am finishing up on stella's. i didn't really change much of hers, her shoes just looks like an edited version of the sims converses.
