You know what's a criminally underrated book that I think needs more hype?

"The Heroes Guide" trilogy by Christopher Healy.

It's a fantasy series set in another world and focuses on the prince charmings from Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Rapunzel, and Cinderella. Basically, the princes are upset that they're all seen as the same person when they aren't.

The first book is called "The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom". When "Cinderella" (her name's actually Ella) is kidnapped, her prince, Fredrick goes to save her and eventually meets all of the other prince charmings, or as Duncan likes to say, "Princes Charming".

All of the characters aren't perfect and they don't fall into typical stereotypes but they're all flawed. The writing is stunning and the dialogue is definitely things I would say to my friends.

Anyways, it's a really interesting book, one of my favs, and it's pretty funny in my opinion.

𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝟓/𝟓 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬

Sadie has a lot on her mind such as being a finalist in the North American Portrait Society competition because she knows if she can create something amazing, then she can prove her father and stepmother wrong about being an artist. However, Sadie ends up having a seizure in the middle of street and ends up waking up in the hospital and learns that she has a cavernoma and it is better to get surgery now even though she is nervous it will mess with getting ready for the competition. She is reassured that everything should go smoothly with a short amount of healing, which means she can continue on with her plans for the competition. But, when wakes up from surgery, she notices an issue with seeing people's faces and is told this is just "probably a temporary" condition known as face blindness. Sadie has to learn to cope and accommodate herself with her new (possibly temporary) disability, her career, the family issues, and falling for her dog's vet even though she cannot see his face.

Back in the Spring of 2018, I was subscribed to Book of the Month, and they ended up choosing How to Walk Away as one of their picks, which I ultimately ended up choosing to put into my box. I read that book and fell madly love with the story and had to get my hands on any of Katherine's new releases. So, I have been following her books for 5 years now and I loved all of them minus one-The Bodyguard. Due to finding the Bodyguard to be an okay read I became nervous that I would not like Hello Stranger, but I ended up requesting the ALC from NetGalley and I am happy to report that I loved this book!

I could not get enough of this book. The storyline was played out very well and the narrator did a great job with sucking me into the story. I will admit the "twist" was obvious and I think it probably was supposed to be obvious to us readers and if it was not, it still did not take away from the story.

Katherine Center has focused on many different types of hardships that some of her characters in her books have to go through that can affect them physically, mentally, and emotionally to the point where life feels like it just sucks for them, but they have to go through a journey of self-discovery to be okay with what they are facing or learning how to accommodate themselves.

Yes, we still see these characters fall in love, but I am always in awe of how amazing Katherine addresses these topics and make us root for the characters. In Hello Stranger, Katherine does exactly this like she has done in some of her previous books such as: How to Walk Away (Margaret becomes paralyzed in a plane crash) and What You Wish For (Sam suffers from seizures).

As someone who works with students who have disabilities, I loved watching Sadie struggle because one of her senses is hindered, but because of that she has to find ways to accommodate herself to recognize people in different ways as well as find ways to paint a portrait for her competition. I would become so excited for her when she would make little victories just like I would with the students I work with.

Now, for the romance: I definitely thought it was super sweet. We have Sadie who falls madly in love with her dog's vet, and she thinks she is going to marry him even though she does not know anything about him, but their date falls through. With her date falling through and then having to deal with an annoying and rude man named Joe in her apartment building, she starts to fall for him.

One thing I have to add is that I freaking love Sadie's dog Peanut because dogs are just the best and I was so excited when she became excited over being able to see Peanut's face when she discovers she has face blindness. I would have lost it too if I could not see my dog's face.

Hello Stranger will have you rooting for the MFC in every aspect of her life, laughing, and smiling ear to ear. You all seriously need to pick this book up and you all should know that I must really, really, really love this book if I wrote a small essay review for it.

👩‍💻 BTW, that would be Tier 1 customer support. Don't try jumping over that level. The agent on the phone with you should know when calls need to be escalated. Ohh if you think that no one is in a rush to take care of kicking outages away, there are generally teams having at the problems.

I got the chance to read an E-ARC of Katherine Centers new book!

I highly enjoyed this book! It was entertaining, sweet, cute! And also has a lot going on which I loved! Sadie’s character went through a lot during this book, and I loved being in the head of someone going through face blindness, it was interesting, the ending I didn’t expect, but also did ya know? Anyway total 5/5 loved it, and love Katherine Center!

In Paris, Jean Jullien’s Two Cheery Bookworms Take Over a Shopping Center for ‘Mise En Page’

In honor of Christmas, I decided to write a Six of Crows Christmas oneshot, loosely inspired by a Christmas Carol. I know it's sorta late but who really cares, you know?

Christmas Eve was now dawning on Ketterdam. The streets of the Barrel were filled with a surprising amount of holiday cheer, mainly from pigeons who make themselves marks. Even some of the gangs were celebrating, decking their clubs with wreaths and selling seasonal drinks, like peppermint frosted whiskey shots (not the best choice, by the way).

The Crow Club, however, was lacking in such things. It looked normal, still popular during the holiday but without the special Christmas touches.

This was discussed with Kaz, who had said no to the Christmas decorations. Most of the Dregs were disappointed but not surprised. And so, the Crows made a plan: a plan to change Kaz's mind.

Later that night, Kaz was filing paperwork in his office, muttering equations and new plans under his breath as he worked.

The door slammed open, to reveal Matthias. He was covered in what looked like flour, a grumpy expression on his face from being roped into this plan. "Demjin." He plainly says.

"Yes Helvar?" Kaz doesn't look up from his work, which forces Matthias to move closer, spinning the chair to face him.

"You must listen to me! Look at me!" Matthias fakes a panicked voice. The only sign Kaz is listening is his raised eyebrow. "You will be visited by three spirits tonight. You must change your ways, or suffer the consequences."

Kaz rolls his eyes, returning his attention to the shuffle of papers. "Amusing. Let me guess, I'll be visited by the spirits of past, present and future?"

Matthias doesn't respond; Nina does. She had just waltzed through the door, wearing a bright red dress with a crimson scarf draped over her neck. "You are correct! I am the spirit of-"

"The past, yes I understand, hurry along."

"I am here to show you your past." Nina wiggles her fingers in a dramatic little flourish.

This peaks Kaz's interest. After all, the Crows were unaware of his past. They wouldn't know about Jordie. They wouldn't know about how they used to sing carols until dark, giving gifts at the stroke of midnight. They wouldn't know about Kaz's first Christmas without his brother, when he had to kill a man in order to survive the night, huddled by the man's dead body, the blood painting the cobblestones crimson.

"Oh? And what is in my past? Are you to show me the days when I loved Christmas?"

Nina drops out of character. "You used to love Christmas? I mean, yes! That is what I am going to show you."

"No need to bother, darling. Do you want me to say I'll change? We both know that's not true."

Nina storms out, cursing Kaz under her breath.

Then Jesper walks in. "Greetings Kaz Brekker! I am the spirit of the present." He's wearing a teal suit, a top hat cautiously placed on his head. His hands rest on his guns, until he spreads his arms out and spins.

"What are you doing?"

"Summoning the saints to show you the present." Jesper murmurs out of the corner of his mouth, before stopping his twirling because of the dizziness that set into his head.

"Aren't you supposed to do that?" Kaz quirks a small smile that quickly fades away.

"Am I?" Jesper turns to a wardrobe, where flute music has begun to play, rapid notes swirling in musical succession.

The music abruptly stops. "Yes, that's your job." mutters Wylan from inside the wardrobe, then the music starts back up.

"Right." Jesper steps over to the window, pulling the curtains away and looking down at the street. "Look at all the pigeons- innocent people. None of them are experiencing the magic of Christmas. You can change that. You can change."

Once Jesper walks out the door, Inej comes in. A black cloak swirls around her feet, the hood pulled over her head and covering her eyes. The music reaches a crescendo, the tempo speeding up.

Inej doesn't say a word, as she tosses a dark cloth over Kaz. He supposed this represented the cruel death that would befall him.

"Fine. You can put up Christmas decorations."

Muffled cheers come from the other side of the door as a small genuine smile crosses Kaz's lips.

Literally two days later from Christmas but that's not too far after right? This is my first Six of Crows oneshot so I hope it's at least okay.

Review: Come Here Often? by Ellie Center

I have a bit of an obsession with covers like this. It’s no secret that I love a unique rom-com and I rarely read the synopsis or any reviews of them before diving in. Therefore, I was thoroughly surprised by the contents of this book and had a great time!

Kat Noad has just signed up as a paid-in-full member of the Great Fitness health club in Nashville, when she is ceremoniously fired and then dumped over the phone within an hour of being there. Her anxiety is triggered and she discovers that she simply can’t leave the place. Every time she tries to walk out of its doors, her body goes into panic and she is sent rushing back inside its safe walls. So just how long can Kat stay within the confines of this warm, welcoming haven before she is caught?

The health club is a huge place with all of the regular fitness facilities as well as a bar, shop, salon and wellness rooms. It’s easy for someone to live there undetected and I can imagine a lot of people would want to do exactly that. The entire narrative apart from the very end takes place inside Great Fitness, so be aware of that if you don’t particularly gel with claustrophobic plots!

I have found that spas and health clubs tend to be calming places with a focus on the inner self and relaxation. All thoughts go inward and it’s so easy to forget real life outside of its doors. Therefore, regular visits to them do wonders for anxious people. While I loved wandering around the place with Kat, I kept willing her to leave and I’m afraid I did find it a bit farfetched that she apparently couldn’t.

The description of Kat’s panic attacks definitely rang true and the author really nailed the physical pain of them. It does feel like you’re going to die and I certainly felt Kat’s fear and utter loss of what to do. Although it wasn’t stated, I got the feeling that she perhaps hadn’t had a panic attack for a while because naturally, she didn’t self-soothe or handle it very well at all.

I thought the discussion and treatment of anxiety sufferers was done really well. It’s true that sensitive people are more prone to mental illness in general. However, I would never have put Kat in that category at all. Apart from her understandable heartache over the loss of her dog, I didn’t think she showed much evidence of being a particularly warm or sensitive person. In fact, she was quite spiky at times. So, I think I’d have liked a better character who was easier to sympathise with.

Come Here Often? is a unique story, exploring mental illness and how severe anxiety can be triggered. However, I did find it quite implausible and I was confused as to why it was being described as a rom-com. Due to the seriousness of what was actually going on with Kat, I didn’t laugh once and the romance wasn’t really the focus at all, so I certainly wouldn’t say it's a rom-com. It’s simply an account of a woman struggling to come to terms with her new reality and hiding from it in a cosy, safe place. While that’s relatable, Kat sadly wasn’t particularly likeable, causing a cocktail of mixed feelings as I finished it.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for allowing me to read a copy of "The Bodyguard" by Katherine Center, which is releasing on July 19th, 2022!

The book tells the story of Hannah, who works as a bodyguard to protect others. Many are skeptical at first due to the fact that she's a woman of shorter stature, which is not typically how bodyguards are portrayed. But I will say that after reading this novel, she is pretty damn badass.

Her world comes crashing down when her mother passes away and her boyfriend dumps her. Her boss Glenn wants her to take time off and grieve, but she's unsure of how to do so. Eventually, she is given a new assignment - to protect the famous actor Jack Stapleton.

This novel was written with hilarity, intensity, and so much more. It fully deserves it's 5-star rating! I dare to say this might be one of my new favorite authors!

yn worked as a counselor/teacher at a filmmaking class for kids. they made a crime drama. it was twenty minutes long and it was a disaster/masterpiece

akaashi's project is focusing on the way the nuances of narration can be lost in adapting novels into film with a focus on this issue in various adaptations in lolita

he's writing a (very long essay) and filming a short scene to draw comparisons to the actual films and show how biases and interpretations by directors can alter the plot of a story and change the fundamentals of a character

i know its not revolutionary but cut me some slack lmao

Astrology Observations

*not a profesional astrologer these are just my personal observations

🎀 Leo risings with Saturn in Cancer individuals tend to not like being the center of attention and actually dislike being in the spotlight, they also tend to be shy individuals (all depends on the different placements!!!)

🎀 You tend to enjoy doing daily activities such as cooking, taking a walk, going grocery shopping etc... with the sign that falls in your 6th house, the 6th house is all about daily activities and collegues so if you have an Aquarius 6th house you might enjoy doing daily activities with Aquarius placements

🎀 People who have a LOT of 5th house synastry might have a very intense yet short relationship and if the south node or moon is also aspecting it they could still miss or remember each other for a very long time

🎀 Scorpio moons always have this darkness in their face, they are very intimidating if they are not speaking or smiling, these individuals also tend to have very dark or bushy eyebrows
