FLIPSIDE SMP!!!!! (promotional post)

...is a modded minecraft smp (survival multiplayer server) where you can play as a phighting character (npcs and skins included!!1!) of your choice! we're always taking in new players, and we'd love to see you there!

need some details?

we run on 1.21.1 neoforge! - if you have problems w running it, we can always provide advice about optimizing for the best performance :)

the smp has its own lore! - flipside is based on, but not exact to, phighting's canon lore. essentially, it's just separated from the source. on the plus side, you can be free with your character's origin, occupation, whatever!

"so, what am i restricted by?" - not much, as long as you mean well and follow the rules of the discord and mc server ^_^ you can freely ask our mods questions if needed!

"do i really have to get on the minecraft server?" - you can just join the discord server to hang out, if you'd like! nothing wrong w that :D

💫 Open Community Arc: Wishmade Sky 💫

Happening June 2025

💫 Stakes 💫

The Wishmade Sky event will be primarily Dramastakes, meaning emotions may be high and characters’ feelings and relationships may be hurt, but there won’t be much physical danger.

The story posts and posts driving the arc will be dramastakes by default. If you prefer something different such as casual or high stakes, good news! The stakes your character personally engages in will be up to you and the players you write with! You can be casual about it, or you can take it all the way up to high stakes. See the prompts below to see how this will work.

💫 The Main Prompts 💫

1. If your character could have any wish granted, what would they wish for?

For the first segment of the arc, exactly this has happened. Under the Wishmade Sky, your character will be able to make a wish and have it granted. This will be the main way to participate, and will be where you the player decide the stakes you would like the event to be. If you would like to play with drama or high stakes, have your character make a wish accordingly. Maybe they’re finally champion, or they win a fight they once lost, or they revive a loved one.

If you’d like to keep it casual or even silly, make a lighthearted wish! Maybe they wish for unlimited iced coffee!

2. When that wish warps into a nightmare, how does it go wrong?

The wishes granted will only last so long before they begin to distort into nightmarish realities. In the second segment of the arc, how does your character’s wish go wrong?

Does the loved one they wished back actually despise them now? Are they finally champion, but it’s a pyrrhic victory?

Is the iced coffee they wished for always mostly melted and watery?

3. What has been your character’s happiest dream or daydream?

In the third segment, to clear the sky the characters will have to soothe a disturbed Jirachi back into its peaceful slumber. Share pleasant dreams with it to stave off the nightmare.

When your character closes their eyes and dreams of something happy, what is it? They’ll be able to catch glimpses of these dreams just before the nightmare ends and the sky clears.

💫 Mechanics 💫

The main feature of the arc will be the Wishmade Sky itself. When the featured legendary, Nightmare Jirachi, is awoken, the sky will turn to a permanent night sky decorated with stars and star shapes (aesthetically, think of a Kirby style night sky).

The arc will be broken into three segments marked by the color of the Wishmade Sky. The first sky will be dark blue, then dark red, then purple. Each segment will be roughly 1 week long in the month of June.

Under the sky, characters will be able to interact with the above prompts regarding wishes. In-universe, the phenomenon will be powerful enough to span across the multiverse, giving anyone who wants to participate the opportunity even if they don’t share a universe with certain characters. And likewise, if you DON’T want to participate, we can just say the Sky didn’t reach that particular part of the multiverse.

The wishes granted will be real under the Sky. However, when the Sky fades at the end of the arc, anything physically brought into existence by it will crumble into stardust. As a result, characters won’t keep objects they wished for or any people they wished into being. Anything done to the character or the environment by the stardust creations, however, are also real. So if a character were to get into a fight with a stardust figure and receive an injury, they would keep that injury after the Sky fades.

There will also be a minior fall under the sky as minior tumble from the sky and drift about the landscape. If you’d like for your character to find and befriend, maybe even keep one, they can!

Some of these minior will probably be special! Feel free to design a unique minior to commemorate the event! Maybe a jirachi styled minior?

The arc will take place both on Tumblr and over Discord! Introduce yourself in the RotoUniverse server to brainstorm, roleplay, follow along with the story, or just hang out and chat! New and experienced roleplayers are all welcome!

Anyone who has a copy of the Julie Rose translation of Les Mis— can you help me explore a grand baloney cover up conspiracy?

In Les Mis Volume 1 Book 6 Chapter 2, Jean Valjean is expressing confusion at Javert. In some editions of the Julie Rose translation, he says

“What is all this baloney?”

While in other editions of the Rose translation he says:

“What is all this garbage?”

They took away our baloney! The government has stolen our baloney! We’re not allowed to call Javert’s baloney what it is!

I’m trying to find out what editions of Rose use which translation— Can you open up your Rose translation and let me know whether you have “baloney” or “garbage?” (The Kindle version I own has “garbage,” while another ebook version I own has “baloney.”)

Again: you’ll find it in Volume 1 book 6 Chapter 2, “how Jean can turn into Champ.” It’s towards the beginning of the scene, right after Javert orders Madeleine to dismiss him but before he reveals he denounced Madeleine to the prefecture.
