Are your future bad kids like. Living in one house together or is the friendship more casual wrt to work and stuff?
oh absolutely not they mostly have their own spaces! fabian is flying around in the seacaster mansion, adaine has an apartment around the area riz's detective office is, kristen is still based in elmville so she can keep an eye out for her siblings. fig gorgug and riz technically share a house but fig moves between like five different addresses whenever she feels like it and riz spends about equal time at his offices and at everyone's places. the thing is I don't think the adventurer circles are that big? and when you grow up with that you eventually keep running into the same people. and also the bad kids still definitely spend every single holiday together regardless of what any of them individually has going on

the person behind me is having a whispered conversation with someone and their desk and my brain keeps trying to go down the path “oh no it’s because they’re talking about how much they hate me!” and i keep having to drag it back to the extremely obvious and fully rational “oh they’re trying not to disrupt anyone’s work, super appreciate them for that”.
like human brains are for real the dumbest, most terrified little animals in existence. calm the fuck down my dude our colleagues aren’t going to kick us out of the cave to fend for ourselves against the cold and sabre-tooth tigers.
#i don’t usually have that brand of anxiety anymore#and i’m not even feeling anxious now#it’s just my brain’s instinctive reaction#and i’m stopping it in its tracks going ‘girl…….’#that being said i’ve never understood people’s brains concluding that people speaking in a foreign language = they’re talking about you#maybe it’s because i spent most of my childhood as an immigrant speaking a foreign language#albeit one that is well understood by much of the local population#or maybe it’s because i’ve spent many many hours in the company of family members speaking languages i don’t understand#and attending 3 hour church services held in languages i don’t understand#but yeah#i always find it more comforting than anything#comforting in the way i find hearing children playing comforting#anyway the only time i’ve actually heard people talking about me in another language#is when local dutch kids would be talking shit about me and my friends speaking english together#we were all of us bilingual so we understood them of course#and always made sure to throw something out in dutch to each other as we left#so that the shit talkers knew that we had understood them#and knew just how dumb they sounded for it#(obvsly people could have in fact been talking about me in a foreign language at other times#and not understanding that language i wouldn’t have known about it#but i know from experience of having been the foreign language speaker that the odds are simply much higher#that people are in fact talking about chores or shopping lists or cousin x’s second child’s graduation or whatever)

I am once again sad that a person I bonded with in a dream is not real
#ALEX. where are you and who are youuuu#okay so the dream was crazy. like.. coherent by my usual standards but still ridiculous#i was back at high school but was the age i am now & i was attending a class in ‘business and employment’ which was supposed to help us all#get jobs and learn skills. but in reality the vast majority of the people in the class (including myself) were in mlm schemes#(multi-level marketing before anyone gets confused with the acronym)#myself and the entirety of my high school friend group (about 8 or 9 people) formed the largest faction and we were selling fragrances#for exactly the sort of company you would expect. anyway. i’d been elected manager even though someone else in the group (who actually sells#this shit irl lol) had recruited me & another person’s mom had invested money into it so that none of us had to actually buy inventory#and i was so uncomfortable and ashamed. i was like ‘okay i’ll just do this for a month and then bounce so i can at least get work/management#experience’. so i was very much checked out when everyone was brainstorming ideas for how to come up with a brand & sell it#the only thing i did notice is that there was this guy named alex who was pretty much reporting us whenever we breathed. an example would be#we wanted to call ourselves ‘lions’ but apparently that was the name of an lgbt society in the area that was important to him#so he complained to the teacher/facilitator about us and we couldn’t use lions. and our whole group was complaining about him#but i was thinking ‘fuck i hope he gets us shut down’. he seemed like a nice guy and the stuff people started saying was borderline#homophobic so i had to be the one to shut them down like ‘hey i’m bi as well and i’m your fucking manager. any more of that and you can find#yourself a new job’#so anyway. next thing that happened was the facilitator was like ‘okay we seem to have pretty much been taken over by mlm schemes BUT here#is a list of people in the class who do not want to be recruited & their reasoning. just so you can take note’ and she does a presentation#of course it starts with alex and his ideological opposition to mlms; but there are other people like a girl who has a large academic#workload. but it becomes apparent that alex is the one who rallied them all together to spread dissent. so i went over to talk to him#(for some reason he was now hiding in a tent) and i was like ‘yes alex!!!! can i shake your hand?’ and he was puzzled but he let me#then i stood up and said ‘can i just say something. everyone has great reasons for not wanting to be recruited and as a manager; i want to#say that if i catch any of my employees trying to recruit anyone on the do not recruit list for any reason; you will be fired immediately’#of course this causes a schism. but it also causes me and alex to end up having a heart-to-heart where he’s like ‘why are you even part of#one of these things’ and i’m like ‘honestly i just want legitimate work experience’ and he’s like ‘i can think of so many more legitimate#jobs. including like. fly-tipping. i’d rather have that on my cv than scentsy’ and i was like ‘you’re so right’#and then i woke up thinking ‘god i’m going to have to go door to door selling this shit’ but then i realised i actually didn’t#and i was so happy#it has motivated me to go back to job-hunting though because my god.#that five minutes when i thought i was going to have to traverse the neighbourhood dressed like an idiot and selling wax melts? bleak.

Beyond Automation: Three Strategies for Embracing AI While Preserving Personal Relationships with Customers

Beyond Automation: Three Strategies for Embracing AI While Preserving Personal Relationships with Customers
In today’s digital age, striking the right balance between automation through AI and personalized, meaningful customer interactions has become a significant challenge.
While AI offers unparalleled opportunities for streamlining processes, improving efficiency, and enhancing customer service, there is a fine line between automation that amplifies the customer experience – and automation that detracts from it.
This comes at a time when the relationship between business and consumer is undergoing a profound transformation. As the co-CEO of Channel Talk, an AI messaging platform dedicated to enhancing customer relationships, I am deeply passionate about exploring the intersection of technology and customer experience.
Simply put, relationships matter. Yet, many companies struggle to leverage customer service functions and emerging technologies like chatbots as a source for growth. This oversight not only leads to missed opportunities but also exacerbates customer churn, particularly in today’s competitive economic landscape. With consumers tightening their purse strings amidst rising inflation, businesses must vie for their share of the market more than ever before.
Compounding this challenge is the dwindling availability of third-party data for customer insights. With tech giants like Apple and Google phasing out identifiers like IDFA and third-party cookies, brands are left with fewer options for understanding their customers’ preferences and behaviors.
So, the question remains, how do companies best use AI-driven automation to enhance the quality of their customer interactions?
It comes down to three things: Segmenting your use of AI and prioritizing appropriately, identifying your VIPs and using AI to quickly gather their preferences, and striking the right balance to be most efficient in nurturing customer relationships.
1. Segment and prioritize how you use AI when dealing with customers
It’s always easy to go too far in one direction when experiencing a new technology. While AI is powerful in many ways, you must know when and how to use it to achieve multiples in its overall benefit.
For example, automating routine tasks such as order tracking, returns, or basic inquiries can improve efficiency. But for most brands, especially the small and medium-sized ones, this is where you will see the biggest impact. Relying on AI to handle all customer inquiries so you can reduce labor expenses may damage relationships if those customers don’t feel they can speak with someone who understands their needs. It’s in these instances that AI can be used for efficiency but not for everything.
At the end of the day, we all still crave human-like interactions and personalized attention, especially when dealing with complex issues or providing feedback.  We value the authenticity of genuine connections, and poorly implemented AI solutions can result in a disconnect between a brand and its customers, especially to their recurring customer base, or VIPs.
2. Know who your VIP customers are, and leverage AI to know them even better
Keeping VIPs happy is key to maintaining a strong bottom line. But doing this well starts with knowing who your VIPs are… Unfortunately, most companies don’t.
AI can help utilize identity networks to better understand who your best customers are, what they want, when they shop, and how they prefer to interact. In today’s day and age, these are all things that most customers expect their favorite brands to know. And if you have a poorly trained AI program incorrectly making these inferences, that customer is unlikely to continue shopping with you.
In the retail business, where VIP customers need to make up over 50% of revenue for a company to be able to grow, ensuring those interactions are personalized and monitored is key to success. These VIPs are the customers who continue to come back, driving sale after sale. To facilitate more sales, you need to know as much as you can about who these people are and dedicate your best resources to them.
Many AI algorithms reinforce biases or make incorrect assumptions about customers based on data. If not carefully monitored and calibrated, AI systems may inadvertently perpetuate discrimination or provide inaccurate recommendations, leading to negative experiences for customers.
In other words, AI should be used to handle those more mundane requests, so that more time can be freed up to focus on driving sales from your most valued customers. And when it is used on higher-level tasks, be sure it is relied on in the proper ways.
3. Use AI to enhance efficiency when building relationships
With the proliferation of chatbots and automated customer service systems, consumers often find themselves wondering whether they’re conversing with a human or a machine. But when unforced errors are made, it becomes obvious – and in some cases infuriating. This then contributes to a general malaise and skepticism about companies’ use of AI.
This is an unfortunate reality that adds pressure on all of us working in the AI industry, which we need to address.
Skepticism surrounding online interactions has many people questioning the authenticity of every interaction. And when this is the case, consumers push back and that impacts the bottom line of anyone using AI as a customer experience tool. The need for human intervention needs to be carefully filtered out when using AI for this function.
But companies that successfully navigate this balance between automation and personalized interactions can more easily gain a competitive advantage in the market.
The balance is crucial – and achieving it can mean the difference between continued success or inevitable failure.  Brands live and die by the satisfaction of their customer base, so prioritizing authenticity, empathy, and customer-centricity is key.
Doing so by harnessing the power of AI is both the challenge and the solution to positioning businesses for long-term success in today’s automated world.
