Dante definitely sees himself as Zuko and it’s so annoying. You’re not Zuko. What really turned me off recently is that I saw an interview with him and the actors playing Mai and Ty Lee.

The women were great but it was so weird how Dante was freaking out acting like The Beach was some horrible episode for Zuko just because according to Dante poor Zuko was stuck with his sister and her friends. I mean since when is it so bad for a guy to be friends with a bunch of girls? God forbid. Came across sexist to me, like oh my male character suffers by hanging out with some girls instead of being in a fight scene with men.

It’s also not Azula’s fault that Zuko had no friends aside from Iroh so don’t blame the girls. Oh and Dante was downplaying the struggles Ty Lee and Mai had acting like they were just privileged which is hypocritical considering Zuko was the most privileged prince of all 😬

Braving the Elements: Boiling Rock pt 2 Thoughts

The Boiling Rock pt 2 episode of Braving the Elements came out today and was highly anticipated by me personally. Here are some thoughts:

- finally seeing some Mai appreciation from Dante😭🙏 he was riding for Mai to earn the non-bending MVP

- not enough appreciation for Mai’s absolute banger lines this ep (saving the jerk who dumped me erasure)

- there was a lot of debate about the MVP non-bender for this episode 🤨 in my opinion, Mai’s sacrifice is one of the most important non- bending moments of the whole show so I was surprised at how much they debated between Mai, Ty Lee, and Suki (no need to pit bad bitches against each other!!)

- loved Josh Hamilton’s emphasis that Mai and Ty Lee didn’t betray Azula for the good of the world, but acted out of their own personal, powerful love for someone they care about!! even though she acts apathetic, this is the peak example of Mai’s actions speaking louder than words

- Dante makes a great comment at one point about how when Mai betrays Azula, she is consciously giving up her life as she’s known it for Zuko. I think that’s just beautiful 😌 all hail Boiling Rock pt 2 as the win of all time for Maiko nation

So I Was Just Listening to Braving the Elements, And...

[People already know this if they've listened to the podcast, obviously, but I've seen this nowhere so I have to share for those who haven't]

I'm listening to a meet the writer's episode with John O'Bryan and they were asking about ships and THIS CONVERSATION HAPPENED:

Janet: John, how do you fare in the world of ships? Do you have a ship that you enjoy and do you know what we're talking about when we say that?

John: Oh, yeah, of course! Um, I would have gone Katara/ Zuko.

Janet: Zutara!

Dante: That's what I'm talking about, John!

John: So, I know we're on the- I know we lost that fight, but...

Dante: Yeah, we did. But was it a fight? Was there talks about that in the writer's room? Inquiring minds wanna know.

John: Yeah, yeah, I think definitely that stuff came up a lot. I'm sure there's some other dimension, some alternate dimension, though, where they are a thing.

I'm just, like, wow!! I immediately got out my computer because I had to share. this is a momentous occasion [or it was, two years ago]. I really need to catch up on episodes but I'm so glad I listened to it. The next time a Kata.anger says it wasn't considered, direct them to this episode, please.

During yet another con recording, Janet and Dante basically admit they're afraid of stepping of Bryke's toes too much by criticizing the show and their decisions, so they don't think about it too hard and??? Oh god that's... Kinda really sad tbh, I don't know how to put it into words exactly but. Hearing them be so casual about saying it felt really weird when it's something that's been very clear to me for a while- they're the ambassadors of the Avatarverse and that means they have to present it in the best light possible... Even when it's deserving of heavy criticism.

Legit the most controversial they got was expressing interest in the possibility of an Azula redemption, but the thing they made a big deal about was The Great Divide because that's the "Bryke Approved" thing to hate on, and even then they still didn't really- they had to defend Aang by calling him a trickster! Imo it's an unambiguous bad episode for him but they can't just say shit like that because of Bryke's ever watchful eye and... Bryke being incapable of taking criticism means that the podcast has very little of it, unfortunately, which makes it really unpalatable at times- it's still mostly fun but! It feels like the big issues the fandom is divided over won't ever really get discussed or explored because of the way Bryke got so stubborn and petty about them and made everything worse.

Also this whole thing kinda goes to show just how powerful and right Zutara is that it overrides this for BOTH of them!

I think it’s important to remember Percy Jackson (and definitely all the Greco-Roman demigods at least) are characters like Toph.

Their levels of neurodivergence as ADHD people and dyslexics impede their daily lives and their spots in society. But they’re the type of disabled character where their disabilities help with their powers.

They have superhuman abilities, good minds for battle and they can read a whole other language. Sure, they have many other drawbacks (able to be killed by any weapon, distinct smell, tendency to be judged by their godly parents, but I still think this puts them in the Toph category. And I love that
