Encanto: Madrigal Family Relationship Analysis Part 28 - Antonio and Bruno
Tumblr media
This is my favorite moment between this uncle and nephew duo; admittedly, it's one of the very few scenes they have together, but I still stand by my point. Antonio offers his stuffed jaguar, made by Mirabell (his favorite relative), to Bruno (a man he's just met and only heard about through his family and town's bias opinion). Jared Bush as confirmed in a twitter post that Antonio considers Bruno his pal. And I can understand why - given his gift, Antonio was told by Bruno's rats not only of the future teller's true personality but also the lengths the latter went to, to protect Mirabel, who Antonio greatly loves, cherishes, and admires. Of course, he would think of Bruno as his pal. And while it wasn't seen in the movie (which should've been), Bruno definitely returned Antonio's jaguar and genuinely thanked his young nephew for the help. And they would develop a tight bond because they are both shy but helpful guys who have an affinity towards animals more than people, and would do anything to help Mirabel, the person in the family who helped them the most (not hating on the Madrigals but the way Mirabel helped them was more beneficial). I can totally imagine Antonio cheerfully dragging Bruno along to play with him and his animals and Bruno happily agreeing since he loves being an uncle in general. I can also see Bruno trying to give good advice to Antonio that it's okay to prefer animals to people, a similar convo like the one Mirabel and Antonio had before his gift ceremony. In conclusion, these are PHENOMENAL PALS FOR LIFE.

Found this gif on Discord and...Well, yes, Bruno looks like a rat indeed! He has the big nose, the long face, the cuteness... He kinda looks like a rat!
I mean, look at him! Isn't he as cute as a rat? He's even crouched like one!
Tumblr media
Oh well of course I know the person meant it as a bad thing. Which I don't understand because, honestly, rats are cute animals. Not only in Encanto. (Just in case: Yes I thought they were cute before I watched Encanto.)
I mean...Just look at @waitingonavision's rats (thank you for the pictures girl, I love you), Pippa and Juli! Aren't they adorable? Just watch how Juli is sleeping and how Pippa is directing her nose toward the camera! I love this!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh my! I wants rats...But I can't because we wouldn't have time taking care of them at home.

mirabels birthday so here’s some headcanons !!!🦋💘
Tumblr media
- she zones out a LOT! whatever she’s working on/ thinking about takes priority in her mind so she accidentally gets so invested she could forget someone’s talking to her! (this doesn’t help in school)
- She’s a try hard on everything! probably stems from her giftless status but she gets frustrated if she can’t be up to standards! she ends up exhausting herself or burning out because she overworks herself!
- social butterfly! she’s a people person and loves talking to both the adults and the kids! she loves validation from the adults and being a role model to the kids!
- never stops talking😭 mirabels a professional yapper🙏 DONT ever ask her to explain what she’s working on because she will not shut up ever!!!
- carries around a sketchbook with her and goes to different parts of the encanto for inspiration! she might just doodle a motif or theme but it’s always something! she uses it later in her projects
- stealing @spooky-spextre-arts hc here but I love this one sm!! after Antonio’s plushie he tells the other kids and she makes a load of plushies for everyone!!
- she painted the mural in family madrigal! I think alma is aware mirabels artsy and would have asked her to do it! since it’s special commission that’s why the husbands are absent! mirabel was just so excited to be asked! Also it fits her art style
- she makes clothes! She designs them AND makes them!!
- she has friends! she’s incredibly social and I refuse to believe there’s only 2 teens in the encanto
- she likes cooking with julieta! even if she’s not the best at it she just appreciates the time with her mother!
- she helps Luisa discover her own style! since Luisa’s outfit is for work mirabel makes her other outfits to wear on her days off
- when she gets a crush she’s super annoying about it! Love language is acts of service!
- makes fun of camilo for being cringe (she is also cringe)
- Antonio is her fave cousin (this ones basically canon)
- a home bird!! she can’t ever picture herself leaving the encanto and this causes some friction between her and isa because isa does leave at some point!
- vents to casita about anything and everything (they are best friends)
- still struggles with opening up to people post movie. she’s not user to all the attention on her and gets overwhelmed often (she would never admit it)
- hates her birthdays (this one’s sad ik) but not only is it the anniversary of her ceremony but the day bruno left and in her mind the beginning of the cracks! she’s getting better but it’s still hard! (Her family spoil her for this exact reason)
- when she’s not playing music in the town she often plays with Felix and Dolores!

Though the poll was surprising, it does mean I can post this now.
About Dolores and Mirabel; and the interesting things one hears. Set in the Miracles Plus AU.
Comments are always appreciated.
Warning, very sensitive topics below.
~~~~~~
But When? And Why? And How?
December 1961
For the Madrigals, there were two ways of discovering pregnancy.
The first being the door. Golden, untouched and full of potential. Even the door handle was yet to receive its initial - that came when the baby was named.
The second was Dolores herself. She heard everything, after all. Which included the tiny heartbeats and minimal movements of unborn infants - it was jarring to hear Camilo before anyone else knew about him. This was more generalised and something she could do for any potential parents in town, not limited to the Madrigals.
Back to the point…
When the door appears, it’s unclear. There is another floor in Casita and the doors seemingly go above their parent’s or as close as they can.
One of Julieta’s girls, obviously. But who? Isabela doesn’t seem against the idea of having more children, her kid is at the age where a sibling is now appealing. And Luisa hasn’t been totally against the idea of having some herself.
Regardless, none of the Madrigals pry.
Days turn into weeks that roll into months and there hasn’t been a peep.
Antonio and Camilo have a bet going on who can find out first. Bruno refuses to even glimpse into the future to find out. Julieta and Agustín practically hang on each word and action, trying to workout which one of their daughters it is.
The baby’s heartbeat is steadier now but still quiet and at every meal, Dolores tries to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from. It’s never quiet enough.
She can’t blame Luisa for not admitting yet, or she’s impressed Isabela’s managed to keep her mouth shut this long.
But then, one day, the Madrigals are sat eating dinner, and all of a sudden Dolores hears a flutter like sound at the end of the table. At first, she thinks it’s one of Antonio’s animals. But none of them are here right now. Only Bruno’s rats scurrying on the floor, looking for scraps from the two animal lovers.
She looks around the room, wondering if she might be reacting to something too quiet for the others to notice. Something so insignificant it’s not worth looking for. But then it happens again, Dolores locks her head at the end of the table.
No.
She knows that sound, that feeling.
It’s a baby kicking.
She tries not to look, instead focusing on the plates, moving closer to the source. Though Luisa definitely thinks she’s listening into her conversation with Mirabel, because she suddenly stops turns and decides she’d rather talk to Antonio. And Dolores almost laughs at it because yes, she absolutely wants to know how Luisa flexed the sleeves off her shirt to impress a woman and now needs her sister to fix it.
There’s nothing, and then it happens again.
And Dolores squeaks, putting a hand over her mouth. What if— but it couldn’t be—
But everything she’d thought before about this situation was wrong. Because when she looks up from the plate closest to the source of the sound, she’s looking at Mirabel.
~~~~~~
It feels unbelievable, and Dolores is trying not to cry and laugh all at once. She feels stupid.
All this time they’ve been focused on Isabela and Luisa. No mention of Mirabel. And of course, she’s the one who’s pregnant.
But— when? Why? How?
As far as Dolores was aware her youngest cousin had no romantic or sexual interest in anyone.
Why hasn’t Mirabel told anyone? What is she going to do with a baby? God, she isn’t really putting that working through pregnancy and labour idea into motion to prove a point, is she? She’s not that stubborn, right?
Dolores closes her eyes, takes a deep breath, as tries to push down the questions rising inside her.
Just… Talk to her.
So, she does. Or tries to.
It’s hard. Mirabel has always been closed off when talking about her feelings or personal things.
Every Sunday, after Dolores has worked it out, she takes Mirabel out. Just the two of them on a picnic, in a quiet spot. In the hopes her cousin will say something of her own accord. She doesn’t.
It’s the fourth Sunday.
And Dolores screws waiting for Mirabel to tell her.
“Do you want to tell me what is going on?” She asks, leaning over to the picnic basket and handing Mirabel a plate.
Mirabel doesn’t drop her smile. “What do you mean?”
Dolores raises an eyebrow, “I know there is something going on. You’re more tired, your mood has been all over, and you haven’t been eating right.” She sighs and then tries more softly, “I’d like to help you. But you need to tell me.”
“Overworking,” Mirabel says sullenly, after a beat. “With the new baby there’s a lot to do - new cloths, blankets, clothes and such. It doesn’t help that my sisters won’t tell me who’s it is. I can’t settle on colours and buying fabric is useless. I’ve fallen out of my sleep schedule because sleeping next to the nursery is not practical and I was never great at eating lunch, it’s an unnecessary meal if you ask me.”
She stares at her cousin a long moment, unblinking.
“Are you okay, Dolores? You look—”
“Primita, I know you’re pregnant.”
Mirabel straightens up immediately.
“Pardon?”
Dolores hardens her gaze, “You seriously aren’t going to me you’re pregnant?”
Mirabel blinks. “I’m not pregnant. I assure you, Dolores. I can’t be. I’ve not done… any of that stuff.” She wrinkles her nose in dramatic and somewhat childish disgust.
“Don’t act stupid. You can’t act and you certainly aren’t stupid,” Dolores snaps. She’s getting annoyed that Mirabel can’t take this seriously. “There’s two heartbeats coming from you, primita. I can hear it. I have heard it for weeks. I didn’t want to push, but it’s getting ridiculous now.”
“There can’t be,” she shakes her head. “You must have misheard.”
The two try staring each other down.
Dolores rolls her eyes. She’s right, she knows she is. And she’s not dealing with Mirabel’s denial or whatever else she’s doing, not over something as important as this.
She stands full height and drags Mirabel to her feet.
“Where are we going?”
“Taking you to a midwife, so you can’t live in denial about it.”
An hour later, found them at a midwife’s office. The midwife, Adriana, must have been around the age of their mothers, maybe a little younger.
Mirabel had tried to argue that she didn’t need to be checked at all, but eventually gave in. Dolores wasn’t going to let her leave without a clear answer.
So Mirabel was laid on the bed, looking extremely uncomfortable and trying her hardest not to cry in discomfort. Yet she kept focused on Dolores, as smug as anything. And maybe, just maybe, Dolores was starting to consider the fact that she might be wrong.
“You’re definitely pregnant,” Adriana called, finally. “Six, almost seven months, I’d reckon.”
Dolores scoffed, glancing at her cousin, who no longer looked smug, but before she could say anything Mirabel sat up.
“But I’m not. I’ve been having my period.”
“You haven’t. It may look and feel that way, but that won’t be menstrual bleeding. It is common to experience bleeding in early pregnancy.” The midwife said, firmly. “But you are definitely carrying a baby. Are you familiar with cryptic pregnancies?”
Mirabel swallowed shakily. “But I’ve… I’ve not had intercourse. I never have.”
There was a grim moment of silence.
As the midwife returns to her desk, starting to schedule things and fetching medication, Mirabel sits frozen.
“You really didn’t know?” Dolores asked, half unconvinced.
Mirabel didn’t answer. Her lip quivered, she sobbed and clung to Dolores like a lifeline.

So I found some mugs and thought they fit the Madrigals so now you get to look at my long post full of madrimugs.
Tumblr media
Alma's mug. This is something she would say, I think.
Tumblr media
Julieta would appreciate a cooking pun or two. She seems the type to enjoy a bit of fun teasing.
Tumblr media
Agustín was gifted this as a joke and he ended up loving it. (Or maybe he's hoping the message gets across to the bees)
Tumblr media
Pepa loves her coffee and I always thought she wasn't a morning person. I think she would like the concept of brunch.
Tumblr media
Félix is such a positive presence, he has definitely said this a few times. He is the embodiment of this phrase.
Tumblr media
Bruno. I bet he has a bit of sarcastic snark in the mornings. Especially towards his sisters and brothers-in-law. His dark circles make me think coffee is pretty important to him.
Tumblr media
Isabela, after the movie. She strikes me as someone that would hold "girl's nights" (Camilo or Bruno usually end up there somehow too) where hair dye and other fun experiments and makeovers happen.
Tumblr media
Dolores. This one makes me think of a quiet sitting area outside in the sun. I bet she has a place like that she goes to for a break.
Tumblr media
Luisa gives perfect hugs and loves to recieve hugs. She's affectionate and sensitive. I thought she would like this one.
Tumblr media
Camilo. Félix probably gave him this as a joke and he embraced it immediately. (He appreciates the pun too!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mirabel. This cute bike is very much her style. The message is too. She would like the idea of reminding others to follow their dreams as she enjoys her drink.
Tumblr media
Antonio saw this and immediately fell in love with it because it has Parce on it. When Pepa helped him read it, he liked the message too. Of course Pepa got it for him, and now it's his favorite mug.
Tumblr media
Mariano gets this one. It's the last one I have, but I think he would be very affectionate and enjoy cuddling up to Dolores. He would probably like this one, especially if Dolores got it for him. Also it's a picture of a mug on a mug and that's just ridiculous and funny to me.
I hope these brewtiful mugs cupture their personaliteas well enough. I had a latte fun putting this together and hope it perked you up a bit today.

Hello everyone, big news! After much deliberation me and my dear partner have decided that the current timeline is simply too bloated. There is too much fat so we have decided to streamline it a bit by trimming said fat. That way we get to the main story a lot quicker. Please note that as a result of these changes, certain posts related to the previous Unforeseen will be labeled as outdated!
Unforeseen Timeline (Revised)
Once Upon A Time In The Wild West
1856 (Birth)
Pedro Madrigal and Alma cross paths in the American West. Pedro, a bottom-feeding bandit, and Alma, a painted lady (prostitute), are both Colombian immigrants who have found themselves in difficult positions. They marry and have three children: Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno.
Soon after their children are born, Pedro goes on a heist with his gang—which he betrays—stealing the loot to give his new family a better life. In the hopes of evading reprisal, the Madrigals move towards Mexico. They join a group of travelers who are also attempting to cross the border. However, as they cross the Rio Grande River, Pedro's former gang members follow and attack them. Pedro makes the ultimate sacrifice to give the party ample time to depart. His death and Alma's anguish imbue the Miracle Candle with magic, repelling the intruders before building Encanto, a mystical haven reminiscent of their home country of Colombia bordered by high mountains.
Alma is left with a strong urge to safeguard their magic above everything else in the aftermath of Pedro's death.
1861 (Age 5)
Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno are given wonderful gifts from the Miracle Candle when they reach the age of five. Bruno's gift of foresight is revealed when he has a vision of an evil figure appearing in their home years in the future.
Alma instills in her children the importance of using their Gifts for the community. But, while Julieta and Pepa are adored and appreciated, Bruno is gradually vilified and scapegoated.
Small families have found their way to Encanto throughout time. It's an occurrence that no one can explain. They claim to have been guided there by golden butterflies. The residents of Encanto, on the other hand, come to accept these newcomers because they, too, are looking for a safe haven to live away from the cruelty and anarchy of the Wild West. Alma feels the magic is responsible, and while they may not understand it, they should have faith in it.
Beginning (and End) of El Ojos Diablos
1871-1877 (Age 15-21)
By the age of 15, the triplets' responsibilities considerably increase. The locals continue to dread and detest Bruno for his Gift, blaming their misfortunes on him rather than doing anything to change or prepare for it. He also struggles to live up to Alma's expectations of him. Expectations based on his mother's idealized recollection of Pedro. She hasn't told her children about the more shameful details of their lives before Encanto.
In an attempt to assist her son, Alma requests that he perform a vision for their Familia. This attempt fails when all it reveals is a future of destruction for Encanto, with an unknown spectacled girl standing in front of a broken Casita.
Alma's relationship with Bruno suffers as a result of the vision experience. He seeks sanctuary within the walls of Casita, where he creates his own private haven. There he finds camaraderie with the rats through their mutual ostracization by everyone else in Encanto.
Julieta discovers and discloses Bruno's secret hiding location to her mother out of worry for his well-being. This escalated to an argument in which Alma physically strikes Bruno before demanding that the hideaway be sealed. Bruno yells angrily at his sisters to leave, then trashes the place in a fit of rage.
Later, a minor tremor occurs, opening a small path through the mountains. Bruno, distraught and emotional, claws his way through the tunnel, the entrance falling behind him. Alma, Julieta, and Pepa soon learn Bruno has gone missing.
Bruno struggles to survive in the Wild West. His Gift of Foresight turns out to be an essential survival tool in this hostile and lawless world. After a period of barely scraping by, a dejected and disheveled Bruno wanders into the declining town of Nuevo Fortuna where he enters a saloon owned by former mercenary and killer Clarence LeRoy. Old LeRoy takes the young Madrigal boy in.
After a few weeks of working in the saloon, Bruno gets into a fight with two cowboys, Mad Mucci and Crazy Campbell. Mucci, who is inebriated, accuses Bruno of stealing and physically beats him, with Campbell assisting in the assault. During the altercation, Bruno inadvertently stabs Campbell in the gut, fatally wounding the cowboy, who dies a slow, agonizing death asking for his mama. The young man is obviously upset by this situation. Mucci swears vengeance before Clarence dispatches him.
Mucci returns with four other cowboys on a dark and stormy night. Clarence fights them off as best he can, but the assailants do manage to set the saloon on fire with molotov cocktails. A wounded Mucci flees to the town outhouse, where he is discovered by Bruno, who shoots him three times with the cowboys own firearm. Bruno, feeling horrible and unwilling to burden Clarence any further, departs of his own accord, taking a horse from the town stables and riding off into the desert.
Clarence and Bruno are reunited two years later, in 1873, in the mining boomtown of Silver Lining, Arizona. Bruno currently lives among immigrants, led by Herr Rissmann and Madame Brancusi, camped just outside of town, the majority of whom work as cheap labor for the Silver Lining Mining Company. Given his reputation, Clarence is hired as a security guard at a local gambling institution, where he keeps the rowdiest clientele in line. Everything goes smoothly... For a while.
A group of riders raids the camp, resulting in multiple deaths. Clarence encourages Bruno to help identify the murderers so that Carey Jr., the local lawman, may deal with them lawfully. However, Carey Jr. recognizes the gang's commander as notorious gunfighter Bullseye Biehn, who is accompanied by Lapdog Lang, Cutthroat Church, Pistol Philbin, and Badmouth Burke. Carey Jr. is intimidated and refuses to arrest them. Bruno is provoked by Biehn's taunting and shoots him with the late Mucci's revolver, which he had retained since departing Nuevo Fortuna. His actions trigger a brief but intense gunfight in which Church, Philbin, and Burke are killed, with Lang fleeing and Clarence injured. Herr Rissmann ends up dead after getting caught in the crossfire.
People in town seem to want to hang Bruno. In their eyes, a goddamn Mexican runt committed cold-blooded murder. Carey Jr. attempts to arrest Bruno, but the teen is emboldened by his deeds and holds the sheriff at gunpoint. He rips off the sheriff's badge in contempt at his cowardice before fleeing with Clarence, the mob too afraid to intervene. Clarence reprimands the lad for his actions once they get outside of town. Bruno gets enraged by the old man’s scolding, wondering why everyone else does what he just did, but when he does the same thing, it's bad.
An incensed Bruno rejoins his camp, who are not delighted to see him. They explain that, as a result of his activities in Cosmatos, they must all relocate or suffer retaliation. As a result, he is exiled from the group. This causes him to have a vision in which he sees the camp being assaulted by bandits as they migrate. Rather than trying to warn them, Bruno abandons them to their fate, viewing them as no better than the people back in Encanto.
Following the Silver Lining Shootout, rumors circulate about a gunfighter with the devil's eyes and disposition. A killer who will out-draw and shoot anyone foolish enough to provoke him. No one knows his name or where he came from. Witness evidence was unreliable, and descriptions of this outlaw proved to be exaggerated. The only constants were that he was Mexican, wore an unusual green poncho, and had eyes that shone an unholy green. Such tall tales earned him the name El Ojos Diablos (Butchered Spanish for The Devil's Eyes).
Pieces of information about El Ojos Diablos’ deeds are carried on unnatural winds to Encanto. Alma, Julieta, and Pepa are shaken by the outlaws' fanciful but sparse accounts because they sound suspiciously similar to someone they know all too well.
In 1875, cattleman McGraw employed Clarence as a cowhand to join him, his wife Audrey, and their daughter, May on a cross-country cattle drive from Tennessee to Wyoming Territory. Cattle rustlers ambush the group halfway through their journey. McGraw is killed, while Old LeRoy is wounded. Bruno is revealed to be one of the rustlers. Upon seeing Clarence’s injured state, Bruno turns on his gang and executes them all with cold frightening ease before personally slaying the head rustler.
Bruno resolves to assist Clarence, Audrey, and May in completing their journey. His seemingly innate capacity to predict danger makes him crucial to their survival. Everyone is oblivious of his Gift and the suffering it brings him. He copes with his pain by occasionally sipping booze. Bruno also shows off his revolver, Memento, which is Mucci's revolver that has been customized to the boy's specifications.
When they arrive at their location in Bullhead, Wyoming, Bruno invites Clarence to the saloon for drinks. When Old LeRoy insists on the Madrigal lad returning home, what appears to be a typical night of companionship between them devolves into an argument. Bruno bitterly refuses and attempts to retire for the evening. Unfortunately, May, who holds Bruno responsible for her father's murder, dares him to a duel, which he accepts once she provokes him. Knowing May will not win, Clarence knocks Bruno out with a bottle of whiskey before handing him over to the law. This "betrayal" stings Bruno. Bruno escapes custody one night, killing two deputies on his way out. Clarence aims to shoot the youngster with his rifle as he rides away, but realizes he lacks the nerve to do so.
In 1877, Clarence settled down as a rancher in New Mexico Territory. Sutherland, Phillips, Sheen, Mulroney, and Siemaszko, his hired workers, look up to him as a mentor figure.
Felix Freeman, a former Caribbean Island plantation slave, is apprehended while attempting to steal from the LeRoy Ranch. Felix's disheveled, downtrodden state is reminiscent of Bruno. Clarence chooses to take Felix in, intending to place him on a better path. Felix's sharp eye and attention have earned him the nickname Halcon Eye.
Rosemary, Clarence’s estranged sister, brings her son Emilio Agustin Estevez Jr. to work for him in an attempt to straighten him out. Emilio Senior, the boy's father, was a jerk who left a long time ago. Clarence finds Agustin's behavior reminiscent of Bruno. He agrees to help the boy so he does not go down the same terrible road.
Agustin is initially at odds with the other hired hands due to his near-sightedness and refusal to wear spectacles, causing him to screw up on more than one occasion. He earns himself the unflattering nickname Squinty.
Over the past two years, El Ojos Diablos' exploits have become more erratic and violent. He’s developed a bad habit of escalating situations out of sheer intemperance. As a result, every gang he rode with never lasted very long, not that he cared. Said gangs were unaware that El Ojos Diablos rode amongst them until shit went south on account of his explosive temper. From then on, even other outlaws grew weary of his name.
El Ojos Diablos suffered from frequent mood swings and terrible visions, which did little to improve his already sour demeanor. Alcohol relieved his agony, while bullets put an end to any grievances he had—as bitter and selfish as he was. Bullets delivered tthrough his two trusty shooting irons, Memento and Mori. This devil's actions gained a $5,000 bounty on his head, attracting a wide range of people eager to make their fortune. Those poor fools never found any fortune. They only found a bullet between their eyes.
El Ojos Diablos' terrible tales spread far and wide. Tales that eventually reached Encanto. This was too much for the Madrigals. So much so that Alma forbids any mention of her son’s existence. Alma, Julieta, and Pepa all deal with their sadness privately in different ways.
The LeRoy Ranch Boys eventually bond over their mutual interest in Wild West Dime Novels. When a terrible drought strikes Old LeRoy's ranch, the boys advise going after El Ojos Diablos, who is said to be lurking around Texas. Clarence quickly refuses such an undertaking upon seeing El Ojos Diablos’ poster illustration, albeit he does not explain why.
The boys decide to pursue El Ojos Diablos on their own. They buy a bunch of guns (on Clarence's tab) before riding off to Texas. On the way, they choose to call themselves the Young Guns. They arrive at the town of Rest’N’Peace and spend the night drinking, boasting, and celebrating their future prosperity. An inebriated El Ojos Diablos turns up and slaughters the novice Young Guns, killing Sutherland, Phillips, Sheen, Mulroney, and Siemaszko with eyes flashing a horrible green. Only Agustin and Felix remain, with the latter fleeing in terror while the former is left injured and at the mercy of the killer.
Clarence arrives right before El Ojos Diablos is about to execute Agustin. Their conversation reveals that El Ojos Diablos is actually Bruno: Alcohol, stress, and a lack of personal care have turned him into a bitter, resentful ghoul. Old LeRoy sees his boys dead and what the young Madrigal kid has become. Both draw on the other, with El Ojos Diablos emerging victorious. Bruno, visibly distraught by what he has done, retreats into the night, leaving Agustin with Clarence, who gives some final words of wisdom as he dies.
Felix conceals himself in a dark alleyway. He sees Bruno escaping and moves to shoot him with his Spencer 1860 Rifle. However, Freeman's nerve weakens, allowing Bruno to flee.
Agustin and Felix lay to rest their mentor and companions in the Rest'N'Peace Cemetery. Rosemary, bereaved, disowns Agustin. Egger, the village undertaker, sympathizes with the kids and advises them to make a fresh start south of the Rio Grande. Both Estevez and Freeman choose to heed the undertaker's advice.
El Ojos Diablos vents his grief over Clarence's death elsewhere. He's hiding away among rats and empty booze bottles in a run-down homestead. The weight of everything he has done buries him under immense guilt.
Agustin and Felix reach the Rio Grande. From there they are led into Encanto by a golden butterfly. Both are taken aback by everything around them. So amazed, in fact, that Agustin becomes sidetracked and has an accident, injuring his leg. Julieta heals him, displaying their magic. She and Pepa offer to assist them in becoming acquainted with the town, which he accepts. Alma eventually meets and talks with the two about their circumstances, considering the fact they both arrived alone. Agustin gives Alma the bare bones of what happened before their arrival. Hearing that they both lost their companions as a result of an unlawful slaughter is enough for the Madrigal Matriarch. She welcomes them as new members of the community.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
1877-1888 (Age 21-32)
Agustin makes frequent visits to Julieta since his accident-prone activities get him hurt all the time. This helps them get more intimate. Agustin discusses the incident at Rest’N’Peace, but he is too ashamed and guilty to continue.
Felix and Pepa become infatuated at the same time. He understands her emotional struggles and how they affect her Gift. They develop a mutual affection for one other.
Alma receives no additional word about El Ojos Diablos. She now knows nothing about her son other than the romanticized fabrications his deeds inspired.
Both couples got married in 1885. Felix and Pepa’s wedding day proved to be unforgettable when a man in a flying contraption crashes into the town church. Agustin and Julieta's daughter Isabela is born the same year, while Felix and Pepa's firstborn daughter Dolores arrives a few months later.
Agustin and Julieta’s second daughter Luisa was born in 1887.
Do Something Right
1889-1891 (Age 33-35)
La Famiglia Morricone secured a bank loan to purchase land in the autumn of 1889. They plan to establish a horse stable near the town of Second Chance, Oklahoma Territory. When they arrive at their lot, they discover a dilapidated shack inhabited by a single squatter… A now 33-year-old Bruno.
Bruno is a recluse who lives by himself. He lives off the land and avoids people. Solitude has partially improved his disposition, but he is a considerably more weary and somber man, tormented by his past mistakes.
The squatter agrees to leave for the benefit of the Morricones. He doesn't want to burden or trouble anyone else. Signore and Signora Morricone's daughter, Maria Morricone, understands Bruno's circumstance. She offers him the opportunity to reside on their property in exchange for working as a hired hand. Bruno hesitantly accepted this offer. Alonzo Morricone, Maria's brother, is suspicious of Bruno.
By December 1889, the Morricone Stables were operational. However, winter arrives early when a terrible blizzard sweeps through the territory, causing great hardship for the town of Second Chance and everything that surrounds it. Signore Morricone contracts tuberculosis and dies from overexertion. Signora Morricone dies soon after of heartbreak. Maria and Alonzo are left to pay off their remaining debts or lose their home.
Bruno develops a fever. Whilst being brought over to the main house, Bruno has a vision of Maria's future in which she has a child. This astounds the Morricone Siblings. Bruno ends up being confined to the main house due to his failing health and the harsh winter conditions.
The former outlaw opens up to Maria while in her care. He finds her easy to talk to, and she listens in genuine silence, offering her own words of empathy. Her compassion and understanding soothe the lonely, bitter boy buried deep within.
Bruno recovers and helps the Morricone Siblings pay back their debt. A mutual attraction develops between Bruno and Maria. The two do eventually marry with Bruno choosing to take on Maria's maiden name.
That same year, Isabela and Dolores both receive their own wonderful Gifts. Isabela is endowed with the ability to conjure and control plants, while Dolores gains super-hearing. Alma is especially proud of Isabela's Gift, but she is concerned when Dolores' Gift becomes too much for her. Her reaction reminds her of He Who Must Not Be Mentioned. Alma, concerned about what her granddaughters might become, shows them both a book with articles and scraplets describing Bruno's numerous crimes. This serves as a warning to both granddaughters to always be grateful for their Gifts and to never be hesitant to serve the community, lest they end up like their cold-blooded uncle.
Bruno Morricone became well-regarded by the town of Second Chance. Everyone recognises him for his abilities and patience with animals. Because of their love and concern for Maria, he and Alonzo have created a strong brotherly bond.
Maria develops morning sickness. A trip to the town doctor reveals that she is pregnant. When Maria breaks the news to Bruno, he panics and has a vision. He envisions their child, revealed to be a girl, killing someone with a double-barreled shotgun. Maria quickly reassures her husband, telling him that instead of fearing the worst, they should focus on raising their daughter to be a decent person. This calms Bruno down a little, but he's still nervous.
On her fifth birthday, Luisa Madrigal receives her gift of super-strength. Alma shows her the book of El Ojos Diablos. Has about the same effect it had on Isabela and Dolores.
Richie Spait, a wounded and on-the-run bandit, bursts into the Morricone home one night and takes a visibly pregnant Maria hostage. He demands everything valuable in their home, as well as a horse. Richie has no idea whose house he broke into. The house rats divert his attention long enough for Maria to flee and Bruno to strike. Spait tries to flee, but Bruno shoots him with a shotgun. The outraged husband and soon-to-be father strangles Richie to death before flinging his body to Alonzo’s hogs. The experience disturbs him because of how swiftly he reverted to his old ways. Alonzo consoles him with the fact he had acted in defense of those he loved. Something anyone else in the same position would do.
Mirabel Morricone was born in the month of March, 1891. Camilo Madrigal, Felix and Pepa's second child, is born around the same time.
A sinister force stirs within Bruno's sealed tower.
1896 (Age 40)
Bruno has kept his distance from Mirabel for the previous five years due to his anxieties about the prophecy he had regarding her. He believes that being around her will bring about the future he predicted. Mirabel spends most of her time with her mother, but she longs for her father's attention as well.
Mirabel is nicknamed Mira-Boo by Alonzo. She responds by referring to him as Bud Bear, a nickname bestowed upon him by a Native American Shaman and which Maria teased him about in their youth, much to his dismay.
In the days leading up to Mirabel's fifth birthday, Bruno worries about whether or not his child will receive a Gift like he did.
Mirabel witnesses her Papa having an uncontrollable vision. She inquires if he is a witch. Bruno reluctantly informs her about his Gift. Naturally, the little girl becomes very excited. Her father does not share this sentiment.
Mirabel receives no Gift on her fifth birthday. Her door, unbeknownst to the Morricones, appears within Casita. The Madrigals are reasonably perplexed by this, considering the door shows a spectacled girl and the doorknob has a 'M' on it. Eventually, the door vanishes without a trace. Nonetheless, the Madrigals are left wondering who that child was.
Mirabel spends the next few days looking for her "Gift." She tries to fly off the roof. Bruno saves and then shouts at her, telling Mirabel she'd be better off without one. Maria consoles her daughter before gently discussing the matter with Bruno. Mrs. Morricone suggests that Mirabel may have desired a Gift in order to be closer to her Papa. A Papa who has been largely absent from his daughter's life.
Bruno gives his daughter her own horse in order to make amends with Mirabel and find a way for them to spend time together. Specifically, Maria’s mare Marmalade's newborn foal who was conceived after an unfortunate overnight incident involving a customer's stud whilst Marmalade had been in heat. Mirabel names the foal Pedro. Bruno and Mirabel raise Pedro together, with the Morricone Daughter displaying her talent for animals.
Camilo receives the ability to shape-shift on his fifth birthday. Alma shows him the El Ojos Diablos book. However, due to the numerous exaggerations of Bruno's exploits as an outlaw, young Camilo is left with the sense that his Tio was an anti-heroic gunfighter.
1899 (Age 43)
Maria becomes bedridden after contracting pneumonia. Bruno considers taking her to Encanto or traveling there himself to have Julieta heal her. The local doctor, on the other hand, makes it obvious that she is in no condition to be relocated and does not have much time. Bruno Morricone can't bear the prospect of leaving just to find his sweetheart dead when he returns. Maria requests that he spend the remaining time with her, Mirabel, and Alonzo as a full family.
Maria dies shortly after Mirabel's eighth birthday. Bruno leaves Mirabel with Alonzo while he buries her privately. Despite his wishes to be alone, Mirabel joins him, resulting in both father and daughter supporting each other in their grief over Maria's death.
Following Maria's death, Bruno has a serious discussion with his daughter. He informs Mirabel that everything Maria left is hers to inherit. It is merely his duty as her father to manage the place until she is ready.
1901 (Age 45)
Pepa gives birth to her and Felix’s third child, Antonio.

Heyo guys!
Since my friend made a post about it, I figured I should make a separate post of it as well that could hopefully grab the attention of more of you out there. Especially since it's now not only become a recurrent issue for myself, but millions others like me; whose voices and pleas for help are often met with silence and no aid when it's needed more than ever.
My friend made this with the hopes it would get the attention of a lot of people. And the few that have so far responded, with boosting my signal, it's truly appreciated.
So, I figured I'd best give my story here.
For those who know me, they know that I've been through this before, not that long ago. For those that don't:
This isn't my first rodeo with my dad. This isn't his first offense, and I doubt it'll be his last. But, even my boyfriend commented that it's really like I'm Cinderella.
Which, would make my family Lady Tremaine and her daughters, Anastasia and Drizella.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Surprised?
Yeah, not the most fun people to have in your life as family, let alone be analogous to your own.
But, for at least my brother on the matter, he doesn't mean to intentionally be cruel- if anything, he is just trying to survive from becoming the next target. Which, I get entirely. I oftentimes do the same for when a fight breaks out between my bio father and my stepmom.
But, that's besides the point-- the fact that they are even akin to that family dynamic is absolutely atrocious.
I'm often seen as a black sheep in my nuclear family- a dark horse, a scapegoat, pariah, outcast; hell, I'm almost synonymous to fucking Bruno Madrigal from Encanto, with a little bit of even Luisa for that matter with how bad her anxiety is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sure, that sounds pretty awful, but that's like, a surface-level perspective of who I am and what I've been through. And I'm not gonna give you my whole life story here, but, as my grandma would always famously say:
Tumblr media
So, here are the said facts (bullets are Bruno related, indents are Cinderella)-
People used to see me as a gifted child when I was little, y'know? Like, my talents had no bounds. My way of being so empathetic and friendly to even the most awkward stranger was renowned by my extended family. I was awkward with communication, and often was very blunt but honest when talking to people, but I was a happy kid. And it's not like I'm not seen for my talents now, but they're brushed to the side more now as an adult because "you can't be living in a fantasy".
Since my dad and stepmom started living together, I've been made to become the maid of the house, doing most chores because the boys won't do it and my stepmom is incapable of handling all the chores and dishes on her own, so she's dumped most things onto me as a "way of covering for part of your rent". Which, I still have to pay upwards of 660-880 a month for. For one small room and a bathroom. For wifi use. And I still have other bills to pay, like for my car, insurance, credit cards, and stuff like that.
It wasn't until I was starting in my teens that my dad saw me very differently. I would often lie to try and keep the peace, because I feared that telling the truth would only hurt everyone more.
I started failing in math; I never got a grade higher than a C-average after sixth grade, because the teacher that year not only made me look like an idiot, but several times painted me as a villain and treated me like I was evil. Simply for standing up for myself amongst a group of classmates who would often bully me
I have little to no privacy in my own room. The only time I do is when I sleep, and that's even temporary at best. My father will routinely inspect my room and if it's not meeting his standards, he has me clean it or threatens kicking me out onto the street because he won't let me live in this house if I can't "do what I am required to do in order to keep living here" shit I wish I actually wish I had recorded him saying fr
He's taken off my door several times in the past as a punishment for not "adhering to his rules"- not okay as a teenager, even more not okay as a fucking twenty-four year old adult
(literal screenshots from conversations with my dad below)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My bio dad started seeing me less as an honest and good person, because during my sixth grade years and beyond I'd struggle with being honest with myself, let alone my parents, about my personal and educational issues.
I've had to be the one to call out when things aren't right, and be shut down for it. I've been the one to call out my family's bullshit, only to get side-swept with the realization my perception of how they treat me is cuz they do believe something is inherently wrong with me for retaliating.
I'm often accused of mishearing things- like, my parents will say one thing, and then the next day, or weeks or months later, when I repeat that statement, they go and say "Oh, I never said that."
I've walked out of my parents' lives once. It only lasted two weeks, but I did have to take a step back from it all. Because I could see what it was doing to everyone in my family. And I love my family, despite their shit. But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna walk out again- in fact, I'm working on a way to do so.
I relate more to pets and small children and even teens than I do older people.
I still have anxieties and fears over my talents and what I'm capable of, thinking I'm not good enough or that it's just the same old thing. The difference is I know it's not, and I know I'm worth more than this.
I have always liked the color green, and it was always a more mysterious color more than an evil or menacing color.
I often have had foresight of future events and get deja by when they do happen. Though, other times I just notice things going awry and I try to warn others of like, a possibility that they don't want to accept.
I lost friends and people who I actually enjoyed being around because of how I was growing up, and it was until I became an adult that part of it wasn't even my fault. A lot of the kids noticed my parents and didn't want to be around that kind of behavior with adults, because they could sense what I couldn't at the time, which was that my parents' behavior towards me was absolutely uncalled for, and rather controlling.
Tumblr media
I was only recently properly diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and ADHD; but before then, as an adult, I had more difficulty talking. Difficulty expressing how I felt. Trouble with finances. Being in the right headspace. Being able to take a step back and be like "whoa, now hold on- pointing fingers at me is only going to point three right back at you, let's not assume shit here". And it took a lot of support from my support systems and my boyfriend- @constant-state-of-self-discovery - to get a truly more accurate diagnosis. Cuz I've had three different diagnoses over the years, with the third being my most accurate one but I digress
I have echolalia and repeat funny phrases, hum music, etc.
When my brother was born - and I hate to use this comparison, but - almost immediately he became the Golden Child of the family dynamic. I was ten when he was born- and yeah, that's unfair for a baby, toddler, and little kid. But flash forward to when he's a bigger kid, when he's in his pre-teen stage and now a fourteen year old, who's gotten more educational advantages than I was ever offered or even given when asked. Who has had more positive experiences with his parents than I ever did. Who got the chance to actually go to the highschool he wanted to without having to worry about who I was really zoned for. Who is getting to work on his passion and talents. Yeah, that's totally not favoritism there.
I draw. I write. I legitimately can see myself voice acting one day.
I have often proved my family members both right and wrong about things in their lives, but I'm still the bad guy. Interesting how that works.
--------
See, these are the facts that just have me relating to just Bruno and Cinderella alone, with how my life is. There's plenty of other shit to add on about my stuff, but that's enough dirty laundry to get the ball rolling.
The fact of the matter is this: I cannot live in such a place like this anymore. And if anyone can help, I'd seriously appreciate whatever cash, boosting, reblogging, sharing that can be done.
I'm tired of living a life like this. I want to move forward. I want to start my next chapter, away from abuse.
And I'm really hopeful for the first time ever that something good might come out of this.
(thank you @savythenillerwaffer , @nystiaa , @oswinunknown , and @anne-of-crows for reblogging along with the others who have spread the word.)

WDTAJN: Carved in Stone
"Your fate is sealed when your prophecy is read". A young Bruno gives a vision to the the future artist of the Madrigal mural. Inspired in part by this post.
TW: Death by strangulation
Omar Sanchez stared up at the wall, holding his basket of paint and paint brushes. He had finished Alma’s portrait on Friday, and the paint had had all weekend to dry, meaning it was time for the next Madrigal, the most controversial.
It was time for him to paint Bruno Madrigal.
Technically, Bruno had been missing for about a decade, if Omar neglected to include him, nobody would say a word about it. Not even the Madrigals themselves.
To be frank, people might complain more if he included Bruno than if he didn’t. Leaving the missing prophet unacknowledged may be the safest bet. It would lead to the least arguing, the least angst, and no painful reminders for Omar himself.
But he couldn’t do it. Omar was an artist, his paintings would never hang in a museum, his name would never appear in a gallery, and his work would fade into obscurity soon after his funeral, but he was an artist all the same. His paint is how he spoke, even with something as ordinary as a family portrait, every brush stroke said something.
And there was so much Omar desperately wanted to say to Bruno Madrigal.
Thirty-seven Years Ago
Bruno sat on the bridge to his vision cave, arms braced on the decorative wooden posts holding up the handrail, and feet dangling over the side. He had lost a sandal and was debating if he wanted to bother going to get it. The miracle had recently added yet more stairs to his tower, and he was still getting used to the extra few steps.
In the canyon below him, his sand curtain opened and his Má guided one of the men from town into the room.
Bruno looked down at his feet, one bare, one dangling a sandal, and decided he would just go barefoot. He wiggled his foot until the straps slid free and the sandal fell, down, down, down. He smiled a little when he heard the soft plop of the shoe hitting sand.
Then he stood and dusted himself off, getting ready to greet the man who was now walking up the stairs.
Alone.
At thirteen, Bruno knew he was fully capable of doing these visions without his Má, and he understood that she was very busy. He did. However, he still wished she would at least stay with him for the talking to people part. That was his least favorite part, even if everybody in Encanto was always nice to him.
“Hola Señor,” he greeted, trying to stand up straight, “I am Bruno Madrigal, tell me your question and I will show you what’s to come!”
That sounded good, right? Very official and fortune teller-ish, right?
The man chuckled, “Hola Bruno, I know who you are, I’m Omar. I was at your fourth birthday party, remember?”
“No,” Bruno said, then wondered what was so funny when Omar broke out laughing.
Omar was a tall man, with his first few grays streaking his long hair, and laugh lines telling tales of many happy days. Bruno noted with interest that there was paint on Omar’s sleeve.
“That’s fine, I suppose you were a bit busy playing with the other children,” he gently patted Bruno’s shoulder, “don’t you worry about it.”
Bruno, who hadn’t planned to worry about it but was now worried that he should have been worried, smiled shakily at him, “Oh. Uh, gracias. Did-? What can I-I uh do for you?”
“You can indulge a father and his worries,” Omar said, “my youngest son, Marcus, is making the bi-annual journey into the city with the merchants today, and I would just like to reassure myself he’ll make it there alright.”
“I can do that,” Bruno nodded eagerly, that sounded like an easy vision, and he would love to get a glimpse of the city. More and more lately, people were coming to him to ask about farming, or sick relatives. Which was fine, of course it was fine, he was happy to help however he could, but… he wouldn’t mind if people went back to asking him about rockets and television again.
“Wonderful, thank you mijo, I appreciate it.”
“No problem, come on!” Bruno trotted over to the entrance of his vision cave, and stopped to pick up the candle he used to see his way around the cave once the door was closed. It took him a few tries to strike the match correctly, but Omar didn’t seem to mind. He waited patiently, giving Bruno a quiet smile when he glanced nervously at the older man. He finally got the match to light and he couldn’t help but glance at Omar, beaming when he saw the approving nod.
When he had the candle lit he led Omar into the cave and waited until the older man, who was less familiar with the cave, was standing safely in the center to close the door and join him. Bruno got down on his knees and dug a little hole to hold the candle up, then sat back and crossed his legs.
“Should I sit as well?” Omar asked.
“Um, if you want to,” Bruno shrugged, “I usually end up standing once the vision is going, it’s just easier to navigate to the future I want to see when I’m sitting down.”
“Ah, then I’ll stand,” Omar gave him a warm smile and explained, “it’s not quite as easy as it used to be to get that low.”
“Ok,” Bruno said, although it didn’t truly make a difference to him one way or another.
Bruno closed his eyes and took a deep breath, holding his hands open to the future as it poured over them. He was careful to keep his sight close to home, it would be much harder to find Omar’s son in all the hustle and bustle of the city. Instead, he searched upon the rarely trodden path over the mountains for the caravan of merchants.
“Oh! Here they are,” he said, brightly. He pulled the vision out of the sands of time and into the sand whirling around their heads, “this is about an hour into the future. The vision will probably jump forward eventually, but I can try to hurry it along.”
“Oh, don’t trouble yourself boy, I don’t mind waiting a little,” Omar waved him off, “fascinating ability you have.”
Bruno blushed, it didn’t matter how many times people told him how great his gift was, he still wasn’t sure how to respond. He didn’t want to sound arrogant, or like he took the miracle for granted, so he just said, “I-I’m grateful for my gift.”
Although, hearing it out loud, that sounded weird. It didn’t quite match what Omar had said, did it? Bruno grimaced.
“Good, good, you should always be grateful for the blessings you have,” Omar agreed easily.
“Y-yeah,” Bruno said, but otherwise kept his mouth closed so he couldn’t say anything else weird.
Together, Bruno and Omar watched the caravan journey through the glowing sand. Then Bruno felt time shift, he squinted his eyes, it kind of looked like they were going down hill now.
“Oh, they’re on the other side of the mountain,” Bruno explained, “this is, um three hours away? Four?”
“Ah, I see,” Omar nodded, watching his son, then sighed, “Ay, it seems like just yesterday I was teaching Marcus how to walk, now look at him, walking right over the mountains.”
Not knowing how else to respond, Bruno just said, “Sí.”
“He wanted to do this last year, but his Mamá wouldn’t let him, she worries you know.”
“Uh-huh.”
“All mothers do, though I suppose I don’t have to tell you that,” Omar chuckled, “Alma was saying you’ve been very helpful and checked for any trouble coming our way for her.”
“Um, sí, Má likes to be prepared for storms and stuff, so I keep an eye out,” Bruno said, rubbing at his arm.
“Oh, looks like he’s out of water,” Omar pointed at his son who was holding his canteen upside down over his open mouth.
As they watched, Marcus told the man at the front of the caravan, the man called for them to stop and started collecting canteens. He handed them all to Marcus and pointed into the jungle, seemingly giving directions. Marcus nodded, arms full of canteens and turned to walk into the jungle.
Just as he reached the edge of the tree line, another one of the men stopped him to add his canteen to the pile, then helped Marcus to rearrange his cargo so he could hold it more comfortably. Finally, Marcus left to get more water with a pat on the back from one of the older men.
“He’s always been such a helpful kid,” Omar said, as they watched Marcus wind his way through the trees, “ever since he was younger. His older brothers and cousins would be out playing and he’d be in the kitchen with his Má and Tías.”
“Oh?”
“Sí, one time one of his cousins tried to give him trouble for it, only for their abuelo, my wife’s father, to cuff them around the ear and put them to work doing all that ‘woman’s work’.” Omar laughed quietly at the memory.
In the sand, Marcus reached a large stream and knelt down to start filling the canteens.
“I’m sure you know how it is, there are chores to be done, and that won’t change just because you’re a man or a woman,” Omar said, in the tone of voice that adults used when they were revving up for a lecture.
“Oh, sí señor, I know that,” Bruno nodded, hoping he could cut the lecture off at the stem. It wasn’t like Bruno was the one who had made fun of Marcus for being helpful, he didn’t see why he should get lectured for it.
“Yes, of course you do, you’re a good kid. Always helping your Má or sisters, you remind me of Marcus when he was your age,” Omar continued, and for a second Bruno thought he was safe, then Omar kept going, “the house isn’t going to clean itself, y’know, and it’s not as if the broom fits any worse in a boy’s hand than it does a girl’s. The dishes too, your Má and sister spend hours making you a hot meal, I doubt they have the energy to do everybody’s dishes afterwards. You can call yourself a man, but as far as I care you won’t be one unless you step up and-. What’s that?”
Bruno perked up, grinning. Thank god, that was close. He searched the scene in front of him for what had saved him from Omar’s life lesson.
His smile dropped.
There, slithering out of a branch behind Marcus, was a giant anaconda. It paused every once in a while, tongue darting out to scent the air.
Marcus continued to fill the canteens, unaware.
“Th-that’s ok, right? Anacondas aren’t aggressive,” Bruno said, going for comforting, but falling short at hopeful.
“Anacondas in Encanto aren’t aggressive, not with humans at least,” Omar corrected, his voice low, rough, and tight, “out there, beyond the mountains, they’re territorial. Are… you sure this isn’t in the valley?”
Bruno gulped, “I- I don’t think so.”
Omar didn’t waste another minute, he took off at a sprint, disturbing the sand and knocking over the candle. The little flame was soon smothered under the dirt and sputtered out so that the only light in the cave was Marcus and the snake creeping ever closer to him.
The door opened and light flooded the cave, then slammed shut, plunging Bruno back into darkness.
He watched.
It would be ok, this was still three hours out, and Omar was on his way, any second now he would appear in the vision, bursting through the trees with the merchants from the caravan. He would get his son away from the snake and everything would be ok.
Any second now.
The snake crept ever closer, body lifting from the branch as it stretched towards Marcus. It hovered over his shoulder, scenting the air, maybe it would decide to leave him alone. Maybe the snake would realize Marcus wasn’t a threat and it would pass him by.
He wasn’t that much older than Bruno, twenty, maybe twenty two at most. Far too young to-.
It didn’t matter what he was too young to do, Omar was on his way, it would be alright.
Marcus filled the last canteen, he gathered them all up, taking the time to arrange them, then stood. His shoulder brushed the anaconda. Marcus turned his head, saw the snake and tried to jerk away.
But the anaconda was too fast.
In an instant it had wrapped around Marcus’ torso, he tried to throw it off but it wrapped its body around his wrist. Bruno stood, watching helplessly as Marcus started to panic. His eyes wide, his legs stumbling back as if he could escape the snake wrapping itself tighter and tighter around him.
By the time Marcus thought to scream, the anaconda was already around his throat.
This was not the first time Bruno had seen death in one of his visions. He had watched wars wage outside Encanto, pandemics pass them by, horrors beyond his imagination unfold. Even as far removed from him as those horrors had been, they still haunted his dreams for days afterwards, and he didn’t even know any of the people in those visions. He recognized Marcus’ face, he could remember a few times when Marcus had given him a friendly wave, or that one time he had helped Alma carry stuff back from the market. Mama had insisted that Marcus come in and have a snack before he went home, Bruno and Pepa had been helping Juli in the kitchen and Marcus had spent ten minutes letting Pepa talk his ear off about the book she was reading.
He couldn’t die, somebody had to show up to help.
In the past, when he had seen innocent children be gunned down, time had seemed to slow, the gruesome spectacle drawing itself out. But this time, when Bruno was praying with everything he had that somebody would appear to save Marcus, that a miracle would happen if Marcus could just survive one more second, time went by all too fast.
Marcus thrashed violently, falling to the ground. Then he struggled sluggishly, eyes becoming unfocused. Then he weakly kicked at the ground, eyes sliding shut.
Then he was still.
The anaconda held him for another minute or two, then it released him, and slithered into the water. It didn’t even eat him, it just left.
The tablet started to form and Bruno tried to will it not to, he closed his eyes and tried to force the future to keep unfolding. There was still hope, wasn’t there? He could be revived, if somebody just got there quick enough.
But the vision solidified, dropping into Bruno’s unwilling hands. He stared at it, at the image of Marcus Sanchez lying needlessly dead just outside the protection of the Encanto. This wasn’t like seeing a war, or a pandemic, or one of the millions of atrocities that passed them by. He went to church with Marcus.
Bruno’s heart pounded in his ears and it felt like the world was spinning around him. He couldn’t tell how long he stood there, staring at Marcus’ corpse before something clicked. A horrible, traitorous thought.
Marcus was still alive.
Marcus wasn’t dead yet, there were still hours to go, maybe there was still a chance. Maybe Omar could still reach his son in time. Maybe the sands of time would shift one more time, and Marcus would be okay.
So Bruno tossed the tablet aside, sat back down and summoned the vision again.
Before he knew it, he was watching the anaconda wrap itself around his neighbor again, this time he noticed details he hadn’t before. He saw the way Marcus’ eyes bulged, saw the tears trailing down his cheek. The vision ended the same, but it was still hours away, so he tried again.
He noticed the way Marcus’ head hit the ground when he fell, and the little bit of blood that clung to the ends of his hair as a result.
And again.
This time, he faintly heard the crack of bones as the anaconda squeezed Marcus’ wrist.
And again.
He noticed the anaconda had been there the entire time, wrapped around a branch and very still. If Marcus could just fill up his canteens fast enough this next time, the snake might not bother to move from its branch.
And again.
Bruno heard the last gasp of air Marcus took before the snake squeezed all hope out of his throat.
But it wasn’t over, Marcus was still alive, there was still time. It couldn’t be over.
The visions piled up around him, all depicting the same thing, but he couldn’t stop. If Bruno gave up now, Marcus’ fate was sealed, he had to keep going. His head ached, and he no longer had the energy to stand, but he had to keep going.
Maybe this next one would be the vision that changed, maybe this next vision would end with Omar bursting through the trees in the knick of time, maybe the snake would pass Marcus by, maybe he would finish filling the canteens quicker and leave before the snake made its move, maybe in his struggle Marcus would knock it against a tree and stun it long enough to escape, maybe, maybe, maybe.
Until there were no maybes left.
Curled up on his side, Bruno reached out to grab the future again, but it was gone. It had slipped into the present, and was rapidly becoming the past.
Marcus was dead.
He sobbed. This wasn’t right, it couldn’t be right. This stuff didn’t happen here, these things didn’t happen to this village. Marcus was a good person who helped his Má, and Omar was a kind man. He didn’t deserve to lose his son.
Eventually, his mother came looking for him. She found him lying in the sand, too weak to stand, tears still wetting his cheeks; he was surrounded by the same vision of a dead man on all sides.
“I couldn’t change it,” Bruno croaked, “we had so much time, I-I should have-. He didn’t have to-.”
His mother said something, but he didn’t hear it. He was vaguely aware of her calling for his sisters to come help, and being moved hurt too much for him to miss that, but he couldn’t tear his mind away from Marcus’ last few minutes.
As he was carried out, he watched the vision tablets pass by beneath him. Even when he closed his eyes, the after image of Marcus being strangled was burned into his retinas, it had been the only light in the darkness for so long.
Present Day
Omar had borrowed a horse and raced as fast as could up the mountain, but the caravan had taken all day to get as far as they were. There was never any chance of Omar making it in a matter of hours.
All the same, at least he'd been able to try.
In the days, weeks, months that followed, Omar was too consumed by grief to spare a thought for anyone outside his family.
But eventually he noticed that the Madrigal boy was not the same.
He learned of what that boy had done to himself a year after losing his youngest son, and a sick, twisted part of Omar was grateful. The child had irrevocably scarred himself in a futile attempt at re-writing the future, in a panicked effort to save Marcus, and Omar wanted to fucking thank him for that.
The haunted look in Bruno’s eyes was a reminder that somebody had cared, that even though Bruno barely knew Marcus, he had wanted to save him no matter what it cost Bruno himself.
Seeing the poor kid suffer over Marcus’ death shouldn’t have brought Omar any comfort, but it did.
And Omar never even thanked the kid. He hadn’t lied when he said that Bruno reminded him of his son, and that connection only grew stronger after Marcus’ death. He couldn’t stand to speak to him. To look at him. Even when he heard through the grapevine that the boy blamed himself, Omar couldn’t muster up the strength to tell Bruno it wasn’t his fault, to thank Bruno for caring, to offer him the chance for commiseration that Bruno was inadvertently giving him.
He had his family, Omar told himself, Bruno doesn’t need you. Even as the village turned against him, as the weight of the world started to crush him, as he became more and more miserable, Omar never told him how much it meant that Bruno had cared.
And then the poor boy, now a miserable man, was gone, and it was too late.
There’s no guarantee that Bruno would still be around if Omar had said something. How could one kind word compare to everything he had faced?
But the greatest gift Bruno had given Omar was the chance to try, the chance to run up that mountain as fast as he could, the comfort of knowing that there wasn’t anything he could have done.
Omar had had that chance with Bruno Madrigal as well. He’d had the chance to give the man a kind smile and his honest gratitude, and he’d allowed that chance to pass him by.
So now, Omar would never know if he could have made a difference, if his gratitude would have been enough.
Omar pulled out his pencil and began to sketch Bruno Madrigal onto the wall. He would paint him as he knew him, not as the village’s bad omen, but as a kind man with haunted eyes. The man who had foolishly tried to save a near stranger, by torturing himself for hours.
A gentle soul who had only ever wanted to help.
And maybe if Bruno ever came back, he would see everything Omar had left unsaid.
A/N: Was going for psychological horror more than anything else. Although if you have a fear of snakes or strangulation, I imagine this is not a fun read for you.

★ BACKGROUND INFO ⵓ
A few months before Karina was due to be born, her parents were forced to flee their village in hopes of a better life like all of the other families who joined the Madrigals’ in fleeing. They started out alone but crossed paths with the main group on their way and decided to put their faith into these strangers and join them. A month after the Encanto was formed Karina was born.
From the time she was a baby she spent a lot of time with the Madrigal triplets. Her parents made sure to pay back Alma’s sacrifice in anyway they could. Her father helped gather cattle and feed the village while her mother would volunteer to babysit for Alma while she helped build the community up.
She was always very close to Bruno even as a tot. They’d toddle around in the beginnings of her mother’s garden and she’d constantly get caught munching on the flowers that grew sporadically in their yard.
Whenever Alma came to pick up the kids, her and Bruno would run off and hide so they wouldn’t have to stop playing. Usually somewhere in the house, but sometimes they’d wander off somewhere they shouldn’t have and get an earful from both parents.
Anytime she would get in trouble she would run and crouch behind Bruno to shield herself from her mother’s disapproving glare.
She was an organized child and loved wearing frilly things. She would throw a tantrum anytime she got a mess on her clothes. She would also line up all her toys and belongings in her room up against the wall for no real reason. Her parents found that to be very odd, but didn’t think much else of it.

Encanto: Madrigal Family Relationship Analysis Part 23 - Bruno and Mirabel
Tumblr media
They were one of my favorite dynamics from the movie. Both have such a deep, intimate, understanding, and loving bond; plus, they are an uncle and niece, which is rare to see in most forms of media. The seflless acts they perform for each other is mutual and constant - Bruno exiled himself to protect Mirabel from possible ostracizing; Mirabel stating that Bruno doesn't cause bad visions and that "family wierdos" like them get a bad rep; Bruno telling Mirabel she's what their family needs (something Mirabel most likely wanted to hear); Mirabel defending Bruno from Alma's harsh accusations; Bruno running on horseback to protect Mirabel again from Alma's supposed anger. They have hardly interacted prior to the movie (with Jared Bush confirming that Bruno began alienating from the family before the time Mirabel was 5) and yet quickly form a healthy and collaborative bond speaks volumes to their profound kinship. And for some extra trivia, in the Japanese version of the movie, Mirabel referred to Bruno as "Bruno-oniichan" (an affectionate term younger siblings use to refer to their older brother); this means that Mirabel (at least in the Japanese version), thinks of Bruno as more of a brother than an uncle. In fact, their whole relationship is more like a brother-sister than an uncle-niece. They each give each other the validation and respect they don't often receive from their family and community, especially before the movie's conclusion. And they are symbolically tied to one - Bruno's green eyes is similar to Mirabel's green glasses and both bare a strong resemblance to each other (and deceased patriarch Pedro). And as for the strong resemblance part, I have a headcanon, that if anyone outside the village were to meet the duo, they automatically assume their father and daughter. And that adds another headcanon of mine: While Mirabel does have a loving and affectionate bond with Agustin, I think a part of her also views Bruno as another father figure. Similarly, while Bruno loves all his nieces and nephews equally, I think a part of him views Mirabel as more of a daughter. I can also see them being the type of best friends who constantly trade sarcastic quips and banter (with a dark sense of humor), basically having their own language. They are a true team and duo of loyal friends, who just GET each other.

Yo, your art is sick! It's fucked up in the best kind of way! Also I remember that era of projecting onto Alma, I was very much the same when I first saw Encanto. But here's the thing. She gave birth three times over, watched her home be ravaged and burned to the ground by bandits, had to walk in the middle of the jungle after giving birth three times away from the only place she's known whilst carrying said three babies, only to have the love of her life slaughtered in front of her because he thought it a good idea to sacrifice himself AND BECAME THE LEADER OF A TOWN AND DEAL WITH A MAGICAL FUCKING HOUSE ALL IN THE SPAN OF 24 HOURS ALL WHILST MAINTAINING THE IMAGE THAT SHE HAS HER SHIT TOGETHER AND KNOWS WHAT TO DO. Alma may not be my favourite character and yes, she doesn't get it right, but she is far from being the villain.
thank you!
I got jumpscared for a hot minute because I thought you were talking about alma mahler (whom I have posted about in the past) before I realized you were talking about the encanto character lmao
but I agree! one of the reasons why it’s one of my favorite disney movies is because it explores family issues in such a dynamic and nuanced way, and while her actions were damaging to the family, they ultimately came from a place of love for them and for her community. the fact that the movie acknowledged this while also addressing how she hurt her family, even with good intentions, was something I really appreciated, and I’m sure a lot of other people did as well.
I was mainly laughing at how, back when the fandom was in its peak, people blew her character WAY out of proportion to how it was written in the movie- for instance, a common hc I often saw was that she forced bruno out or disowned him, while in the movie, he left on his own. while the rest of the town ostracized him for his predictions, his family readily accepted him back, suggesting that they were more hurt by the fact that he left the family without any explanation than by anything he may have predicted. (and from alma’s perspective, if she viewed the family’s duty was to serve the town, it must have been even more hurtful to her if he just left without saying why.) so, both characters are pretty nuanced and complicated, but I saw a lot of fandom hcs and posts that characterized alma as everything from physically abusive to homophobic (with regard to the popular headcanons that bruno, mirabel, and isabela were lgbt). when like, as you said, she’s a deeply flawed person, but she never was as bad as a lot of people made her out to be.
I think what happened there was, as “encanto” is a story about, among other things, familial trauma, people wanted to explore their own familial trauma with these characters because they related to them. it’s a big cast of characters who are all related, so obviously you’re going to find one you connect with (and personally, I saw a lot of myself in mirabel, which is part of why I like the movie so much). or maybe, as fandom does, people just wanted to come up with stories, headcanons, and character dynamics with this big cast of characters they liked. and because a lot of people viewed alma as the source of the family’s trauma (which she sort of was), she became an avatar for all the traumatic things people wanted to explore through those stories, such as abuse or bigotry, even if she may not have displayed those concepts in canon.
overall, at the end of the day, I don’t think there’s anything right or wrong with people interpreting media the way they do; that’s what media is for, and if someone casting alma madrigal as a terrible person helps them work out their own issues, that’s great; she’s a fictional character, so there’s no harm done to anyone. I just think it’s sort of funny how a whole fandom saw this one fictional old lady and collectively decided she was the Worst.

SPREADING ENCANTO POSITIVITY!!!!! Are their any Encanto Blogs you would happily show appreciation for and why????? Please tell us!!!!!
I think it's a lovely idea!!! That said, I'm the worst person to ask because I don't really follow that many people, I follow blogs who reblog other Encanto blogs. But I'm still going to try.
Short list; there are more blogs and people I appreciate, but I don't have too much tiem, don't want this to be too long and I think you all already know my friends hmm
@encantoisawesome Lovely person, constantly sharing Encanto-related things, super well organized blog to easily search for each character! Also, I think we have the whole movie in screenshots thanks to them and I always find there that reference I can't find anywhere else, so thank you so much <3
@encantowishes Right now on hiatus if I'm remembering correctly, but one of my favorite blogs to find Encanto content. Besides, romantic fic with asexual Bruno? I haven't been able to read it yet because I'm too busy, but knowing it exists makes me happy uwu
@omgcheez Look. If there's new Encanto content, merchandising, comics, whatever, you'll find it here first. It's always interesting to read his headcanons and comments about the characters and on top of that he makes cute drawings.
@waitingonavision Our pancita lore master. Cute art, sweet fics, lovely person. And everything that Moon posts about Jewish Madrigals is super interesting to read.
@pepa-brainrot I can't say enough about how much I love his art style, the Madrigal look beautiful. Pepa looks gorgeous! If I am sad I look at this drawing of Pepa smiling and I feel better.
Since we are talking about her, @cloudy-encanto is Pepa herself and not just because of her incredible cosplay and the videos she makes, she is like a ray of sunshine when you talk to her. Fics, 3D art, an amazing animation she did for EBB. Just... Wow.
Are you looking for genderbend Madrigal? @firinnie got you covered. And in general super cute content <3
@unskilled-dabbler Nyda also shares a lot of content Encanto-related and she has a very nice art style, I love the way she draws Bruno!
@thecrazyashley-blog Anything I can say about her is overshadowed by the thought that she has a 300k+ word fic. I really admire her for that.
@naoko-world shares Jared Bush's tweets when he does Q&A's and I also like that she post the merch she buys (official or from artists), so I've discovered things I didn't know I needed, too bad about the price and shipping every time lol
Uuuh, okay, I've spent too much time on this and I have to go now. I may extend the list in the future if I have time, sorry......
Super quick round for people I met on instagram! @dororoxpenana Helianthus Deenah Dinarion

Regarding the post about your last Madrigals x OC post - how did the Madrigals meet their SO's and why did they end up in a relationship? What made them stick together?
I noticed that Isabela and Luisa date people from each-others friend groups which sound really funny, I need to know how it happened lol
Oh yeah, Dolores really appreciated Isabela doing that 💀. (Isabela didn’t care as much with Luisa).
This is a long post and I was only doing short summaries.
Most of them met in school. It’s a small town, they probably only had the one school - unless you want to be really historically accurate (in which case girls and boys would be separated), then two - either way, they all knew each other early on. There isn’t more than a couple years between them, so even if they weren’t in the same class, they would have seen each other in the playground. Especially given the status of the Madrigals. But, some of them didn’t form proper connections until much later on.
Alfonso & Bruno:
Alfonso and Bruno (and Félix, but this ain’t about him) had been friends throughout their time at school. By the time they finished school (15/16 ish), Bruno realised his feelings weren’t as platonic as they use to be. Probably had many awkward instances of attempting to flirt with him and failing, partially as Alfonso hadn’t realised he was bi yet. Bruno’s reputation slowly began falling away over the next few years, resulting in him distancing himself from his childhood friend; not wanting him to be treated badly by associating with him. Alfonso never really got why - he never saw Bruno as this villain like the rest of the town slowly came to view him as.
Cut to Bruno’s return, he avoided Alfonso as much as he could at the start of Casita’s rebuild. Eventually, he was setup to talk to him by his sisters or by his older nieces - I haven’t quite decided yet, but I could see both of these scenarios working. Regardless, Bruno and Alfonso got to talking and became friends again. By the end of the rebuild, the two were dating. They both are very open with each other and gain a lot of confidence when they are together, which definitely helps them stay together. They bring out the best in each other!
Isabela & Lili:
Isabela has always been aware of Lili, who was Dolores’ childhood best friend (Mariano being Isa’s). Once free from her engagement and embracing her true self, she was quite open that she was a lesbian. And then slowly had to accept what a girl failure she was when it came to her crushes. So she kept quiet about the crush she had gained for Lili. She was locked into further silence when Dolores mentioned to her that Luisa had a crush on Lili and - not wanting to have to relive the whole Mariano thing - kept clear out of the way.
Even long after Luisa had clearly gotten over said crush and mentioned over a hundred times that she had a new crush, who later became her girlfriend, Isabela didn’t dare go after something she wanted herself. If it wasn’t Luisa, there would potentially be someone else she’d hurt. Mariano began to notice her acting odd and asked her what’s wrong, getting her to open up about everything. He assured her as best as he was able and even offered to help Isabela with some of her flirting skills and getting her a chance to speak with Lili away from the public eye.
It was during some town festival that Mariano managed to pull Lili aside from the rest of her and Dolores’ friend group to “meet” Isabela. Isabela still was her girl failure self and gave Mariano more than enough secondhand embarrassment to last the rest of his life, but Lili took it all really well and was extremely flattered. She asked Isabela to dance and that was that. They were found making out in by Dolores (on accident) several hours later.
Dolores was initially not very thrilled about this. Realising with somewhat over exaggerated horror that it meant Isabela would just be around her 24/7 - not only at home, but now she would just be crashing the friend group to hangout with her girlfriend. Though, as Isabela continues to remind her, she is dating Mariano (who is part of Isabela’s friend group), so she doesn’t really have the high ground here of not mixing friend and family.
Luisa & Marta:
Marta is part of Isabela’s friend group but is a much more recent member, she joined sometime in the middle of Casita’s rebuild. Though she spent a decent part of it admiring Luisa, as a lot of the ladies did. As much as Isabela is a huge girl failure, Luisa is a bit of a flirt, charmer, ladies’ woman, whatever you want to call her! Luisa clearly knows she’s a gorgeous and wonderful woman, okay?
After she got over her crush on Lili, Luisa had noticed Marta among her admirers and focused the attention on her. Mutual pinning. She began seeking her out more often, whether she was on a round of chores or just in her own free time. Isabela, as previously stated, was happy enough for Luisa to date her friend and probably was the cost in of this ship - definitely not as a way of learning how to date girls. What? Why would you say that?
Luisa planned a very romantic first date/picnic for them to get to know each other. They now have one of these every couple of weeks. Definitely one of the most chill and least dramatic relationships in the Madrigal family. Oh and yes, Lili has bragged to the Luisa fan club that they are dating.
Camilo & Marco:
They are in the same class at school. Always have been. Became friends very early on. Their families were also very close beforehand, which definitely helped when planning to spend time together outside of school. Their families probably got together every so often anyways. Camilo has been crushing on Marco for at least a good couple of years before he did anything. Definitely wrote things like “C+M 4 EVER” in his diary or on his schoolwork or whatever. Marco had been crushing on Camilo too, but was infinitely more subtle about it.
It during the end of the rebuild before Camilo’s sixteenth birthday that the pair of them both happened to confess their feelings at the same time. It was a little awkward but overall very sweet for a couple of teenagers newly in love. They are still learning and growing as they go, but it’s a journey they’d rather face together.
Mirabel & Sera:
These two got together three years after the miracle returned, when they were roughly 18 and 19.
But, we need to backtrack a little first. By the time they finished school, Sera had been crushing on Mirabel for a while but had been advised by Camilo that it was going to be a hell of a mission - Mira had never dated anyone nor had even the smallest of crushes. There was no way to gage what would be the best thing to try to get her to go on at least one date with Sera.
Sera settled on writing a short love letter/poem, remembering what an avid reader Mirabel had been in school and assumedly still was. Given how often you could spot her with a book in hand. Mirabel corrected the letter of its spelling and grammar, like the smartass she is, and then returned it to Sera. Sera found it endearing and funny, Mirabel was marvelled that someone hadn’t immediately gotten annoyed with her smartass behaviour. Sera accepted that Mirabel just wasn’t interested and offered to be friends instead, to which Mirabel agreed.
(Just to clarify, Sera had a couple of girlfriends during this time. She wasn’t just pining after Mirabel for years).
At 19, Mirabel realised she’d grown incredibly fond of Sera. Even beyond platonic. She was very attached to her “best friend”. And maybe Isabela overheard her confessing this to Luisa and then told Dolores. And maybe Dolores then went on to spread the gossip to Camilo. And maybe Camilo then told Sera. Now knowing Mirabel a lot better, Sera decided to try again. This time with a basket of wool. Mirabel did say yes but asked they take it slowly, as she still didn’t quite understand these “alien” romantic feelings. Sera was happy enough to do so.

OK so today we're August 7 and it's Isabela's birthday! I really wanted to do something for that day, especially since I like Isabela a lot. I just didn't know what exactly.
In the end I wrote that big ficlet, almost a OneShot, with Baby Isabela at the moment she came to be.
At the end of the month I'm posting the same with Dolores! More ansgty though while this one is fluff.
Enjoy! And Happy birthday Isabela!
You can also find it on Ao3!
Tumblr media
No warning, fluff, a bit of angst.
Agustín's point of view.
812 words
Isabela is born!
Synopsis: On that day of August 7, Julieta Madrigal gave birth to the very first Madrigal grandchild, Isabela. Here is the story of how everyone was so excited and hopeful for what will be the golden child.
In the Encanto, inside of the Madrigal's house, on August 7. That day, babies' cries got themselves heard, announcing the big news: Julieta finally gave birth to her baby, a girl she and her husband called Isabela.
Agustín had been with her for the work, helping and giving her support for the hardest parts of the process. They got Abuela's help too, who then called the rest of the family from outside Julieta's room when the baby had stopped crying and had been fed.
They all hurried into the room, starting to fawn over the girl when seeing her, claiming how pretty she was.
"She has Julieta's eyes!"
"Look at her cheeks!"
"His nose is adorable!"
And so on, making Agustín smile with pride added to the happiness he was now feeling. Now Abuela would stop saying Julieta could have made a better choice! He could see on her face she indeed stopped thinking that, which made Agustín feel incredibly satisfied with himself.
Suddenly, with a bit of shyness and anxiety worrying Agustín, Bruno asked his sister "Can I...um...hold her?"
"Wha- No! Sorry Bru-"
She yawned, showing how exhausted she was, making Agustín feel ashamed. He hasn't been thinking about his wife's well-being! How could he? He sat on the edge of the bed, stroking her to entice her to lean on him, which she did with bliss.
He then felt Bruno's expression saddening, hearing him mumbling "Yeah of course. I understand, a baby is fragile and I could make her fall or something worse."
"It's not that, Bruno", Agustín assured him. "But I and Julieta trained with Alma to learn how to carry a baby and even we aren't sure we won't mess it up. Julieta is simply not at ease with someone else carrying her baby."
Bruno smiled sadly, showing an understanding look that Agustín knew meant he actually understood.
In a clear attempt to change the topic, Pepa rubbed her tummy, saying enthusiastically "I hope mine will be a girl as pretty as this one! Can't wait for the day I'll give birth too!"
"Statistically it's improbable", noticed Bruno with a raised eyebrow while Agustín was praying for him to stop speaking. "Especially since the genes won't be the same, both girls won't look the sa-"
He got interrupted by Pepa's stare, Agustín ready to assume he was pretty used to his sister's face change. She obviously didn't look happy about her brother's reasoning, confirmed by a cloud appearing above her head, lightning already starting to appear in it.
"Thanks Bruno, I was in a good mood and it's all ruined!"
"Cool down Pepi!" interrupted Félix with a smile before it could go farther. "I'm sure Bruno didn't mean it badly."
Bruno nodded, hiding in his oversized ruana with scared eyes. Agustín wanted to go support him, reassuring him like he did pretty often, but he couldn't leave his wife's side if he didn't want both her and the baby to fall. So he watched as Félix managed to calm his wife down while Bruno was making himself low in shame.
This is the moment Alma chose to hope, keeping her eyes on Isabela with an appreciative look "She's indeed so pretty! A perfect little baby girl who'll surely become a perfect grown woman."
Then, with a thoughtful look and a smile, she added, "I wonder what her gift will be! Surely something as pretty and perfect as her, like flowers or even music without needing instruments."
Hearing her talking, Agustín couldn't help but shiver. It was basically nothing, she only said something even he was thinking of. A bit. Something in him however was telling him to run with his wife and baby, and hide a few years away from Casita.
But they couldn't do that! They were at home at Casita. Besides, it was completely natural to think about Isabela's future gift. He was hoping for his girl to get a gift that would make her the happiest on earth, something she'll love doing. Even if she didn't get a gift, as long as she was happy he would be glad for her.
"Bruno!" called Alma while turning to her son. "Let's look into her future, I wanna see what gift she'll get."
"I'm not sure mamá", Bruno argued nervously. "What if it's not something you would like to see? I mean-"
"Bruno." she interrupted him.
They locked eyes, Alma staring at him with a mysterious look making him lower himself a bit more, hesitating. Agustín could tell Bruno really didn't want to use his gift. Alma could probably too since she sighed, understanding, conceding "I guess. Do as you want I gu-"
"I'll do it."
"Oh...Perfect!"
With a smile, she followed him out of the room. Agustín turned back his eyes toward his wife, thinking he probably should be careful in the future.
