I was looking through the Fionna and Cake trailer to look for scenes we haven't seen in the show yet, and I noticed how most of them are most likely from the same episode. So, on this post, I will be talking about my theories/speculations for Episode 7, The Star.[Spoilers for the episode synopsis under the cut]

So this is what we know about the episode right now.

My first theory was that the title came from whatever happens in the gumlee subplot or maybe it was about Cake being "the star" of the vampire hunters, but then my friend Will reminded me how the previous episodes were all names of characters (Yes, Im counting Destiny idc), and said it could be a nickname for a pre existing character. Maybe it could be this world's Marcy's "Vampire Name". I dont know enough on the topic to be able to tell if it would fit in with the theme the vampires in Stakes had, but it does have an article at its start.

For the first screenshots we have these. The first image shows up near the end of the trailer, its 3 vampires attacking. I think these two are back to back, as the vamps are exactly the same. In the second image the third vampire is in the background and appears to have knocked Fionna down, with Simon standing next to the vampire. Maybe Cake does that attack in rage due to them hurting Fionna.

This is a one second scene and the frame where the explosions dont cover up the whole screen is very hard to catch, but these are the same garlic bombs Peppermint Butler had in Stakes. Maybe the Bubblegum of this universe, along with Pep But, is working with the vampire hunters.

Following up on what I said about Marcy having a "Vampire Name". When I first read the synopsis I assumed that Marcy was the one leading the vamp hunters, as it only makes sense. Being a Vampire hunter was a big part of her backstory that led to her *becoming* one. But I then realized, what's going on here, might be completely different. Not only is she already a vampire, both in the trailer and on the poster this Marceline looks pretty smug for someone presumably fighting for her life, and she has that dress which looks very "royal"(to me, at least).

I thought maybe she embraced being the vampire queen, and attacked the humans, but that wouldn't make sense. Why would she hurt the beings she wiped out an entire species for? And then it clicked: this Marcy never had a Simon at all. She was found by vampires instead of him. Remember the conversation Simon and little Marcy had at the beginning of episode 2?

Someone rich? Living in a castle? With people trained to tend to their every need? Sounds a hell lot like a king.

This conversation is going to come up again. Simon is going to find out that No, Marcy would NOT have been fine if he didn't find her. He's going to see what would really have happened to her if she never met him. In all the past episodes Simon's been constantly told that he sucks, that Ice King was "better" and "more fun". He's been feeling like he truly did not matter and had no value, that it would be better for everyone if he just went back to being Ice King. He's going to see that that's not true, that he does matter. That Marcy values and needs him, even if things are different now. Maybe he won't get it immediately, but he might start doubting his decision to wear the crown again. I'm so confident in this I will eat my door if it doesn't happen.

Human huntress wizard with a garlic arrow. Obviously its from this episode. She must be a hunter(duh) and maybe she's the leader as well. Or maybe Im right about Bonnie being there and *she's* the leader.

Im only assuming this scene is from this episode bc the background color scheme is similar, I dont have any other evidence for it. It may be after Cake beats the vampires, where she gets approached by the hunters to join in. Im kinda basing this theory off the voice line that goes along with it in the trailer ("Now that is a party I don't wanna miss" Who'd wanna miss out on the fun of hunting evil vampires?), but the voice line may be about something else and she could be praising herself to the hunters here (she just has that vibe in here).

A gun(?) Lowers down to face the gang. They smile at it nervously. The ground theyre standing on is wet, and so is Cake. I don't know the reason for that, because they didn't immediately come here after leaving the Winter Kingdom. They might have gotten their clothes wet on some other universe and then came to this world, or maybe this is after they fight the vampires and they somehow got splashed with water during the process. I came up with two possibilities of what might be going on here:

Option A) It is the vampires spotting and trying to kill them. If thats the case they might've destroyed the gun before it could shoot them, or maybe Fionna got shot and thats why she's down on the scene where Cake is attacking. Both end up with the 3 vampire goons attacking.

Option B) It's the vampire hunters seeing them, either after the fight or right as they arrive, and they think the gang are vampires as well until they show their teeth

This isn't from the trailer its from a magazine. I think its from this episode because of the background, like that Cake screenshot. This may be after Cake is recruited. Fionna seems to be annoyed so maybe Cake is doing something wrong and Fionna's disagreeing with her. Or maybe Cake's trying to annoy Fionna and it's working. And that's it for the speculation! I wanted to talk about the rest of the scenes in the trailer as well but 1) this post is long enough as it is and 2) tumblr image limit is not being kind to me rn. I might make a separate post for those if I get the motivation. stares guiltily at Fighting the Hurricane ch 2, languishing on my wip pile. listen, i still fully intend to finish that story. i was doing cool stuff in there. the only problem is that my brain exploded while i was writing ch 1, and this wasnt supposed to be more than 2k words but i am myself, and i didnt use outlines then, so my notes are a mess.

also i cannot possibly underline enough the bit where my brain exploded. this is an exaggeration only in that none of it came out of my head, but i was Not Myself for a Long Time.

i think my internal monologue bangs. this is because i agonize over it.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

moving characters around in the space is like pulling teeth and i feel like a solid 30% of my editing is focused on that. getting someone from point a to point b elegantly and without it feeling like "astarion got up. he moved his feet. he sat down. he looked out the window" makes me feel like walking into the sea

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I like it when it makes sense! Why does this character use another language? Does the reader need to know what they're saying? Is the POV character unfamiliar with the language? Does the reader learn anything from this? If you don't have good answers, why do it?

I find tieflings really neat, and bg3 does the typical dnd thing of "tieflings are looked down on," without, like, doing much with tiefling culture. So Ive had Kira use Infernal as a shortcut to create familiarity with other tieflings, and use it to have private conversations bc why would anyone but tieflings and people living in The Hells know that language--this solves some problems for her! And it creates others.

19) First fandom you wrote for?

Naruto...... once upon a time i wrote shikamaru/sakura fic. i was going to make a joke about that being my actual first longfic but i just checked and it literally isnt, i worked on it for a year and if you dont count the in-text authors notes (it was a different time) the whole thing is shorter than true colors chapter 4.

can you imagine me, now, updating something for a year and it being less than 11k. lol. lmao, even.

his mbti is infp (which fits him sm bc of how like. caring. and idealistic he can be) and his enneagram is 6w5 (the guardian) which, again, SO fitting for a man like him. so loyal but also very pensive kinda guy. analytical one might say.

🌴 PALM TREE — does your oc have a green thumb? do they enjoy gardening?

i never really thought abt it before but. god he DOES have a green thumb actually!! his apartment is full of plants because he still feels weird being in night city and wants to remember being outside (even tho "outside" is a desert). i think he also grows plants to manifest the future he wants, aka being at peace in a place that's connected to nature and had NOTHING to do with night city. he also gardens i've decided just now bc he can't stand all the factory foods (which is gonna be a useful skill when he DOES get his little haven away from everything!!)

💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.

– finley is trans!! it's a ripperdoc in the bakkers that did his top surgery a few years ago and there were some complications (normal thing to happen in the badlands methink) so his scars are now a little jagged and strange, but he loves them nonetheless – was taken by raffen shivs as a kid to be sold or eviscerated. he ended up killing and maiming his way out of the camp with a scalpel and running away before being found by some bakkers scouts. – sometimes, when he can't sleep in his apartment, he goes down to the garage and sleeps in his car. it's something that's more familiar to him and it soothes him despite the grief that comes with it.

🐈 CAT — does your oc prefer a wide circle of friends or a few close friends?

he definitely prefers a few close friends. doing what he does—infiltrating the project at eden's gate years ago and now juggling his allegiances as best as he can—, it's much safer to only rely on a few friends he can really depend on rather than risk being ratted out by hanging out with too many people. he's also very slow to trust, so he's never even had a wide circle of friends, even as a child.

🤍 WHITE HEART — what are three of your oc's neutral/questionable traits?

– maxwell is an excellent hunter. he learned as a child with his uncle and his big brother achilles. he never liked it. – tends to be quieter in most situations, only there as support for whoever he's with (be it jacob or eli). he doesn't take sides during fights, which is why he's so conflicted about the reaping and its factions. – doesn't listen to much music. idk if this counts as a trait but there it is!! my poor underdeveloped boy

🍝 SPAGHETTI — what is/are your oc's favorite food(s)?

he likes homemade foods, no matter what that food might be, but the food that brings him the most comfort is saltines and peanut butter. it's just a little snack he used to get as a kid when they were a little tight on money and it brings back a lot of memories, good and bad.

💚 GREEN HEART — does your oc prefer being inside or outside?

outside!! carter grew up on a spaceship, so being outside on earth is one of his favourite thing. i mean, there are trees, flowers, rivers, lakes, animals, bugs!! so many things to see, so many beautiful colours, so many different smells!!

🍦 SOFT ICE CREAM — what is/are your oc's favorite ice cream flavor(s)?

strawberry,,,, he's a very strawberry and banana kinda little guy and strawberry ice cream is just so sweet AND pretty. all pink. important also to note he hates pistachio ice cream (projecting that on him rn)

carter listens to all kinds of music!! growing up with peter quill as a father, he ofc listened to a lot of music from the 70's and 80's and they're what he listens to the most nowadays, but he also enjoys pop music a lot and the shrek 2 soundtrack!! he's also a BIG fan of dolly parton

writing for all the violence is challenging in general, bc it's not my usual style, and its narration is quite demanding!! i need to be very focused and careful with it. also, i started it after finishing the first part of the nothing happens au, and the shift was so extreme that i struggled a lot with this one for a few days before words finally started to flow more easily

and yes, i'm mostly happy with how it turned out, but also, i've read it so many times i keep thinking there's something wrong with it SIGH

Okay, Obviously bad ending is Bad Ending and likely messes up everyone severely. I am not sure how strained everyone already felt with the aftermath of the fight, but surely Aubrey, Kel, Hero and ESPECIALLY Basil will all be severely impacted by Sunny's silent suicide. There wasn't even a goodbye.

Basil.. I'm sure he's gonna take the first opportunity he gets to end his own life as well. He almost made peace with not being alive that day, but that just surely finished off all of his doubts. I don't think he'd even try to make an effort to tell everyone the truth or talk otherwise. Why would he? or maybe he'd tell them about Mari bc he has nothing to protect anymore, except maybe easing their minds a little. He doesn't care about himself after all, he's gonna be dead anyway. He won't speak about their fight.

Aubrey might count herself at fault partially, due to how she met Sunny with threats and fighting, and so did her friends. She might see herself responsible for how the 3 days he spent outside were a shitshow (its not like he himself was barely stumbling abt and taking on most ridiculous tasks, and yk. Basil's everything). Basil dying doesnt help. Truth will not help either. She just doesn't understand why'd Basil speak up Now.

Hero will feel responsible. He hasn't got over the previous suicide, and he hasn't been there for her brother at all, and now he is gone too. And he is too broken for the one who's surely going next. He will try to alert Polly but that will be all. I don't know how he will react. I simply don't get him enough.

Kel.... Kel brought Sunny out. He doesn't know if it was for better or worse, but if he thinks of the suicide as a consequence of Basil fight that night, well, he is at fault. He's the one who made them interact so much and brought them to stay that night, even though Hero initiated the idea. He isn't exactly blamed by anybody, but this is a lot to overthink about, and that's what he does. I don't think he keeps his drive or decisiveness. World is kinda crumbling around him and he can fight that only so much.

Now ^^ ghost matters

Trivia recap: Mari as a Guardian is tied to Sunny(alive) and the Truth, and is automatically freed if either is failed/completed. Ghosts appearing as a result of suicide are tied to the place of their death, fixed in the moment of death, their life, or a dream hardly interrupted by the world around them. They might feel more hazy than the ghosts who are free since this sort of fixed unkind to them scenery is really likely to cause them more problems than they already have. (that makes wilderness deaths most lucky.. as lucky as you can call them)

Sunny is tied to the hospital. which has many ghosts, so he's not as alone as he otherwise would be. He is also somewhat Omori. He is also somewhat indifferent to Mari, who is heartbroken. He roams the hospital, or stands outside sometimes. Mari visits him at night. by day she's at Basil's. Omori tends to sit and imagine spending time with his friends for hours and sometimes days. His world is complete. His world is lonely. His world is both crowded and quiet and utterly indifferent to him. He doesn't care much. He likes when Sunny's sister comes around. They can watch stars together. It sucks he can't introduce her to his friends and big sis. She usually isn't around for that, or doesn't follow him there. Shame.

Mari... she's free, but she doesn't want it to be. not like that. She might eventually suggest all three of the ghosts go into slumber til called (Sunny's rest is most peaceful - no one is there to find him. even less so Omori)

disregarding all the stuff she's already forgotten, probably some of the interactions she had with older guys when she was younger. she knows deep down that it was Not Good, but she's not ready to confront the feelings that come with it so she tries not to think about it at all

idk if this counts as a fatal flaw but the fact that she Never Ever wants to confront her issues is a big flaw. i think she's aware to some extent, but the nature of the problem is that she won't acknowledge it. she would have to be dragged kicking and screaming into therapy

5. How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?

i think Hanako is more likely to hurt herself than others. she doesn't have much of a problem with stealing or lying, but she wouldn't hurt someone else unless, in her mind, they deserved it.

7. What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?

this is hard bc i literally don't have anything written down for Hanako, she exists entirely in my head. i never even wrote an outline for her fic. from what i can remember, her anger and issues sleeping have developed over time. her loneliness is also something that's come up the more i write for her.

i don't know if there's a word for this emotion but Hanako struggles with the feelings that come with being wronged. her go-to reaction is anger, but anything deeper than that is something she really tries to ignore.

as for expressing emotion, i think she has a hard time with genuine affection. she feels uncomfortable but tries anyway.

probably that even though life has treated her like shit and she tries to put up this facade of being aloof and uncaring, she still tries to be kind to people. her little moments of kindness are some of my favorite to write :)

normally, aizawa is a man of few words; he doesn't bother with anything he deems unnecessary, and he'll be the first to admit that there isn't much that can actually break him out of this dreary, apathetic routine of his. however, when he first sets his sights on you, he knows something is different.

he's a hero first and foremost, so he's always vigilant — eyes scanning people to determine whether or not they pose a threat, until his eyes cross yours. there's nothing special about the way you scamper down the streets at night while he's on watch, you look like any other civilian afraid of the threats in the dark, but maybe aizawa's just grown bored of the whole camping on rooftops like a sitting duck, so he decides to follow you home.

it's easy with the cover of night, blending into the shadows as he trails behind you, feeding on the way you peer over your shoulder every so often. you're like a helpless little kitty, lost and all alone in a big jungle, where bigger, deadlier cats lurk, waiting to pounce on some fresh meat. no one gets close enough to try, though, not with the erasure hero pursuing you so meticulously, fighting off the low-level scum, so you can make your way home safely.

he deserves some sort of reward for clearing off all those villains just for you, he justifies as he watches you through your open curtains. you're a silly kitty, aren't you? showing yourself off like that, as if you know he's right across from you.

accompanying you home easily becomes a routine. it adds some spice to his otherwise bland life. but, soon enough, just watching from afar isn't enough for him. maybe he should bide his time and go about this in a safer manner, but he wouldn't be a good hero if he didn't take risks.

he's been working as a hero for so long, he's seen enough crime scenes to know how to stage a break-in, and that's exactly what he does the day he steals you away. there are police meetings he hears about, grieving and sobbing family members and friends he sees when the news of your abduction gets out, but it's water under the bridge to him. you're where you belong now.

some days he misses the quiet nights at home, but he'll never regret bringing you here. never. to him, you're irreplaceable. he needs you because without you, he's just an obscure hero, an overworked teacher, a man desperately in need of a haircut and a hand to hold. but you? just your presence is enough to get his heart racing; he feels reborn, like a completely new man as he explores you and all that makes you you, learning all your different reactions, memorising all the faces you make for him.

× as they instantly welcomed you in their small group, they informed you both that the majority of the squad was adopted and they're in contact, while they're still actively looking for the others

× Kaminari turning to you and whispering "You did this" with a hand on his heart, lips trembling as he wiped an imaginary tear

× when everyone laughed and continued to make plans to meet up with the others, he just looked at you conversing with them, soft expression again on his features and his chest warming

it tells us to seek shelter, my obianidala everybody lives au bc i went into a huge deep dive of motherhood, and padme's legacy....... it's probably the fic that made me think most deeply about a character!

7. Work I’m least proud of (and why):

hmm probably if it matters, and if you notice. i adored working w the artist on this for the check please big bang, but as much as i love ocean's 11 and heists, i am just really terrible at writing action scenes. i tried to skip past the action scenes in this fic and just do what i was good at but it doesn't capture the same pizzazz as the movies. oh well!

a comment on it tells us to seek shelter that said i had a great grasp on tension and narrative....... bruh.

9. A time when writing was really, really hard:

after i finished the first draft of i had no map when i started and now here i am (somewhere real called loving you) i had a full on crisis bc i panicked i a) wasn't portraying the boys accurately, and b) didn't give their relationships with one another and all the complications that would come with a reunion the justice that it deserved. almost completely chickened out and threw out the whole thing lol

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

again, in it tells us to seek shelter i wasn't intending to write about padme & leia at all, but as soon as i started thinking about padme and who she would be if she survived mustafar, there wasn't anyway i couldn't not write about the anxieties she'd have for her children, and how that could strain her relationship with them.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing:

From even in jest, or as an afterthought:

She stands up and shoulders him out of the way, clanging a pan onto the stove and flinging open the fridge so hard it slams against its own hinges. She’s mad at herself for bringing it up, for ruining a nice morning by saying it out loud, and she’s mad that she’s mad, and guilty, and all mixed up.

“Hey.” He touches her shoulder lightly, and it makes her furious.

“What,” she snaps, swinging around. She’s holding a carton of eggs in one hand, and her movement slams it directly into his chest. There’s an audible crack, which ruins their plans of omelettes for breakfast.

He looks at her searchingly. Takes the broken eggs from her hands, tosses them in the bin. Sticks two slices of bread into the toaster.

“I don’t hate you anymore,” he says, eyes still glued firmly on the toaster. She feels the fight leave her. They stand in silence until the toast pops up.

“And anyway,” Jaskier says, plating the toast, and pulling out the spreads from the pantry. “He’s not here.”

There isn’t anything Yennefer can say to that. 12. How did you grow as a writer this year:

forced myself to write humour, and do a proper examination of the interactions between friends. it's surprisingly difficult to distill the weird-ass conversations you have with close friends into something that's enjoyable for someone else to read lmao.

13. How do you hope to grow next year:

hmmm! hopefully i'll be able to write something longer!

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

@spookside @defiantgalaxy genuinely do NOT know where i would be without you two holy shit thank you for cheerleading and editing !!!!

@usetheforce everytime i wrote a particularly angstly obi-wan scene i'd think first, "i am the only person who'd want to read this", and then "actually, nope, denims will want to read this". thank u for ur comments <3 <3 <3

fandom giants spqr, and jibrailis (on ao3), who all taught me about writing humour, character introspections, and the joys of writing a specific industry/profession in a way that's knowledgeable and exciting but not alienating.

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO don't need the city (don't need proof). yeah. on a lighter note, the hospital scene in twist a little closer now really did happen to me lol. and of course, all i can remember is, which is inspired by a real tradition in a friend's hometown.

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:

uh. don't write linearly? whenever i felt like i was getting blocked on one scene i would just hit enter a bunch of times and start another scene. you can always rearrange/edit/cut scenes later, but your confidence always just shoots up when there are actual words on the page.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

got a narry fic currently going thru editing phase, and some jotted down notes for another one that i might finish at some point. plus the beginnings of a lilo fic where they run a local government campaign ..... unsure where it's gonna go though. i guess we'll see!
