Hi! I have just recently deciding to switch careers and leave the vet industry , go into tech. Have spent past 2 years in tech school to become a vet assistant but after being in my field, I always wondered how it would be like to have a career in tech, ive always thought for so long that being in tech comes w Math and science and i suck at both 🤣🤣🤣. so I’m deciding to enroll myself in a completely online program to become an IT tech yet i have always admired hacking and coding so without getting sooo much into it, which leads me to my question:

- what do I have to do to be in the code career?

- do I have to go to boot camp out of my state or should look into going online completely?

- is coding beginner friendly especially as someone who doesn’t have ABSOLUTE NO IDEA about coding?

Please let me know and I love that I have found a community of women jn the tech industry, it’s pretty inspiring which why I want to go into the tech career.

Hi Stone, first of all welcome to our small and growing community.

I'm glad you're giving yourself this chance to try technology and see if it's for you or go back to vet or even go to art(yes I stalked you UEUHEHUEHUE) and I also thank you for finding my opinion relevant.

As you said that you wanted a career and that you are interested in coding and hacking, here you need to choose which one to prioritize. Because whether back-end, front-end, mobile, fullstack or cybersecurity there will be a lot to study, practice, make mistakes and practice again.

Here I give an addendum that if you don't know what these areas mean in technology, I recommend doing a search, reading and watching videos on youtube about it to see what might please you.

So based on what you've told me, again I think the best first step is to know what you want to prioritize and what you want to make money from.

Because trust me, you won't be able to study everything together at the same time. And if you manage to find an hour, there will be a burnout, so take it easy my friend. (from personal experience)

Even more so if you want a job, it's best to focus on 1 and then move on to others. Then find out what might be best for you / what you most identify with.

I also like hacking, I have books and I have already found courses. But this is something I want to study as a hobby and a safety measure (after all, there's no shortage of motherfuckers doing shit with others with that knowledge). So I put it in the background. Because my priority is money and hacking has work, but not in my country.

Now about entering the code career. Despite being a junior/student, I've seen a lot and I've also learned in these 2 years in the technology community in my country and watching you from the outside, so I can have a more mature view to help you with that.

So let's go:

1) - To know what you need to do to enter your career in code, you need to know how the technology market is in your country.

Because with all these layoffs, we have a lot of professionals with experience and academically well qualified and depending on the country, we currently have more demand for professionals than job offers. (Here in Brazil this is happening, because the layoffs in North America reflected here).

And here I don't want to discourage you, I just want to give you a realistic parameter for you to enter the area without illusions and not get frustrated like me and a bunch of people on the internet. (I wish someone had guided me like that). Because what we have most on social media is people making it seem like programming is easy and getting a job is even easier, or that you're going to earn A LOT since you're just a junior and THAT'S NOT THE REALITY..

BUT all the effort pays off in the end.

Within that, here I think it's cool that you try to observe what vacancies in your country ask for juniors/interns.

From Skills like knowing python to asking college or accepting bootcamp. See what's most in demand out there and within that see if you like what's in demand.

I tell you this, because here in Brazil, for example, we currently have more vacancies for internships (and here you need to be enrolled in a college to do an internship) than for juniors without college and only with bootcamps. So if we want a job around here, the first thing is to go to college and not be completely self-taught. So again, research and study your country's technology market.

In my conception TODAY getting a job in programming without college will be 10x more difficult than in 2020 for example, things have changed. The market now is not lacking developers, quite the contrary, now it has hight demands from developers but not for JOBS.

What the market wants most are senior people (and I've seen seniors I know saying that after layoffs even for them it's more willing to get a job, again supply and demand), but there are still opportunities for us beginners, in some countries there are more and in others less.

Speaking in the sense of the United States from what I observed from the US (content producers and twitter) + my experiences here in Brazil.I don't know the current situation of the technology market in Africa, the rest of Latin America , Asia and Europe.

Of course, you can be lucky and succeed without , but I, for one, got tired of believing that I would be lucky and be one of those people who succeed and changed my strategy to get a job.

Or you could also join a job-guaranteed bootcamp. Check how it works and if you have this type in your country.

And here we come to your second question.

2) The answer is it depends.

For example, will this bootcamp in your state guarantee you a job or is it possible to do an internship at a company or will it connect you with companies after the program?Or is he recognized by technology companies in your state?

If so, I would recommend doing it and dedicating yourself to getting in.

Because look, if they guarantee you an job is even better , you'll just have to study and do what they tell you to get your job.

But if you don't guarantee it, but this training has merit/respect in the market, it also pays off.

Here, I wanted to take the opportunity and talk about apprenticeship.

In our community we have our queen @xiacodes @xiabablog (it's the same person), she did an apprenticeship and today she is a junior developer in UK .

She shared her journey on her blog and is also the most engaged and resource sharing person in our community.

Here I would like to say that FOR ME Apprenticeship is one of the smartest strategies today to get into the technology market.

I myself will start on a Monday and it was my solution to get a job in code by the end of the year. (I'll talk about this in another post too)

So I recommend looking for apprenticeship in your country / state and how they work there.

And obviously observe and read the rules of the program to see if there are any catches that put you in absurd debt or contractual fines.

And see if you can handle it if you have the possibility.

Here I give an addendum that if you find an apprenticeship but that you will earn little in the beginning, for you to analyze well before saying no. Because salary we can evolve after we have experience, the important thing for us juniors/students is to get the first experience and the rest later becomes easier. (At least that's what the Mid /seniors I know say)

Now if in your country you don't have this kind of opportunity, I would recommend trying to see if it would be possible to do bootcamp/online courses + college to get an internship.

And you don't even have to start with paid courses, in my opinion if the bootcamp won't guarantee you a job, it's not worth paying for it. We have a lot of free resources on the internt (youtube biggest school) .

But it's up to you.

-Odin project (And it has both fullstack with ruby ​​and with node.js. )

For me, paying will only pay off when you don't find quality resources for what you want to study. So I would advise you to always think about whether it pays off or not.

- Udemy (there are good courses there and there are always promotions)

+++ Here I also wanted to talk about knowing that public colleges (100% free) are not possible in all countries or when they are, they are very elective and difficult to get into for poor people as it is here in Brazil.

But here despite that, studying A LOT to pass the exams and having worked to save money and support yourself until you get scholarships to support yourself (and if you do), you manage to get into the best colleges that are free and that is more viable than being poor and being able to pay for college in the US, for example.

So I know that it might not be very viable depending on where you live and whether or not you are a resident of the country.

So I don't know if college can be an affordable thing for you, but if not that you can find the best strategy to achieve your financial prosperity in technology!

And despite the layoffs, I still think there are more entry level openings there than here HUEHUEEHEU.

3) What do you mean by friendly?

If you mean easy, no, she probably won't be friendly to you at all AND THAT'S OKAY.

As you yourself said that you know absolutely nothing, it will be natural for you to have difficulty, to think about giving up and to make a lot of mistakes to get it right.

It's going to be a process of failing and trying again and again.

NOTHING IS EASY. And since you've already taken a veterinary course, I think you already know that things are really difficult. So this is another reminder that it won't be any different here.

BUT it will end well because EVERYTHING IS LEARNED.

And that also goes for math, if you ever have to deal with it (and if you go to cs college you will) you will make a lot of mistakes, but you will succeed, because EVERYTHING IS LEARNED based on trial and error.

And that doesn't mean you're bad or stupid, just that you're learning something completely from scratch. It won't be overnight that you will understand, it may take months or years, but persisting you will succeed. THIS IS NORMAL.

I cried (literally) to do conditional algorithms in 2021, I banged my head in books, said I would never make it and felt like the biggest dumbass in the world and today 2023 are the easiest things for me. I have no problem making them.

And that was only possible because I didn't give up.

Here I wanted to advise you to start your programming studies with low expectations, to help you manage your frustrations and maybe burnouts. It won't be overnight that you will become the best programmer and do many projects at the level of a senior developer or the people who do tutorials on youtube.

They will be small steps that lead you to your goals in studies. Again, constants.

There are people who could get their ek code jobs in 3 to 6 months of study.

BUT FOR ME, currently having a plan to get an opportunity between 2 years and 4 years (if you actually go to college) study is the healthiest way to pursue your studies and goals. If you get it sooner, even better for you, but if not, you'll be fine with yourself because it's within the period you stipulated.

Finally, I ask you not to take anything I say as absolute truth.

Question what you read Take what I said, analyze it and see how it works in your reality.

I also recommend trying to find women in technology from your country on linkedin and see if they can help you with tips and so on. I feel very good knowing so many Brazilian women in tech since I did this, my network there is composed only of them precisely to create a place without judgment but of welcome and inspiration.

Like, I'm not going to swear to anything or try to predict the future or anything (because I hate a bunch of "are they engaged?"/"are they not?" back and forth heated debates flooding my inbox), but all I have to say is that since 2020 they have definitely been moving like a couple that is engaged and is ready for the next step of their lives. PERIODT. 👏

There are sooo many signs that point to this. The ring(s), the claiming of each other publicly on social media, fostering a dog together, not going more than 3 weeks tops w/out seeing each other, the "congratulations" post/comment from Kaz, surprise visits, attending a wedding together, visiting each other (more than several times) even while WORKING (this is new), vacationing together, Nikki and Claire following each other finally after like how many years(?) lol, etc. They have very obviously talked about the future together. They know it. Their parents know it. EVERYONE close to them knows it. 😏 If you can't see that, then Idk what to tell you lol.

I think some people tend to forget that this is NOT Tom and Zendaya's first relationship with each other. These two had broken up and GOT BACK TOGETHER. They CHOSE to do that.

When you get back together with an ex, unless it's just a quick hooking up fling that lasts like 2 months, you two are usually in it this time for the long-haul because you both have healed, have dated other people, and STILL are in love with each other. You're not just playing games. You are SERIOUS. And you certainly don't want to go through the pain that you went through again when you lost them the first time. So exes that get back together (especially if you're already nearing the 2-year mark of getting back together) are typically in it for the long-haul. 😊

It's finally Friday and Honey has a long weekend off from work. Curtis is ready to take her out of town to a cabin.

He's waiting patiently for her. She comes out with extra pep in her step and a smile on her face as she sees Curtis waiting in the car at the curb.

All of a sudden, she's practically accosted by one of her students parents. Honey being Honey quickly slips on her teacher face and tries to diffuse the situation.

Warner scoffed, "Well my poor Bailey was so upset! She said you didn't give her time to even enjoy any of them!"

Curtis watched as Honey took a deep breath through her nose, "Mrs Warner, you were called earlier because Bailey said she had an upset stomach. She didn't feel like eating it at the moment and food like that is not allowed on the bus,"

Curtis saw Honey's eye tick. He touched her elbow and softly spoke, "C'mon Sweetheart,"

"Mrs Warner, I have plans and am officially off the clock. If you have any other complaints, please talk to the principal,"

Curtis lead Honey to the car, leaving the pissed parent gaping after them. He quickly got Honey into the car and jogged around the nose to get in as well.

Honey stared out the window in a trance, not moving. Curtis decided to lean over and buckle her in. He held his position, his long fingers grazing her chin.

"You okay Honey?" He knew she was pissed but her zoned out gaze had him worried.

"She gone?"

Curtis glaced up and looked around, "Yeah,"

"Good," Honey breathed out, her own hand cupping his bearded cheek. She gently moved her lips over his, a light smacking sound resonating in the car as their lips pulled and reconnected slowly.

You leaned back in your seat after Curtis started your car, the back loaded with bags you had packed that morning, a cooler with food for the cabin, it was all going to be okay.

But your fingers twisted in the fabric of your skirt, your insides matching the way you twisted your skirt. It wasn't like you weren't expecting it. Mrs. Warner had a reputation at Mason Academy as being one of those parents, Bailey fully aware of what she could push to get away with.

Normally it wouldn't shake you like this, but classroom reviews had just happened, there were talks of teacher cuts and it all had stressed you out so much, that you were still considered the 'New Teacher' of the school.

This was part of the reason Curtis insisted on taking you away for the weekend, help you get out of your worries and relax with him.

He side-eyed you, seeing the way you were twisting into your clothing and the dazed look out the window when he reached over, untangling one of your hands and weaving his fingers through yours, settling your hand into his lap while he drove. "I'm proud of you Honey."

You blinked out of the daze, looking at him while he gave your hand a squeeze. "Proud of me?"

"Yeah, I would have probably lost my fucking cool with that parent. You spend all damn day with those kids, not to mention all the after-school stuff you do that you are doing on your time, and she can't see any of that. She couldn't even bother to come talk to you about it in a civil way and see what you had to say." He pulled your hand up, kissing on the knuckles while keeping his eyes on the road.

"It's my job." You finally break into a small smile, your way of not making a big deal of it, but Curtis's praise made your heart soar.

"And you are good at it Honey, that school is lucky to have you. I will be happy to remind them anytime they need it."

A/N- @may85 I loved this thought! I can easily see Honey dealing with these parents with a cool professional demeanor while Curtis is watching on, all proud of the way his girl handles herself. I can imagine the stories you could share about some of the ridiculousness that happens in schools and I'm willing to bet half the time it isn't even the students but the parents. tldr; dad’s a pos and i wasted my time on shit no one cared about

softball was my absolute life from kindergarten up until two years ago (tenth grade) and my dad never gave a shit about me in the sport until he could extort it to gain some slight political power in my new area but he has literally paid over $1,000 for my sister to play the sport on various teams, gotten her various lessons, and spent it on equipment meanwhile i used to have to cry and scream in order for him to even think about driving me to a practice as a kid. i used to have to walk upwards of an hour+ with my catchers gear, gloves, balls, bat, etc (that i paid for all on my own) to get to my practices, or beg my teammates parents for rides to games. he nor my mom have once showed up to anything i played in (i played various sports and did many clubs throughout my school career), and i would always ask him to come throw a ball around with me or teach me to ride a bike or spend literally any time w me and he always refused. now this month long trip in greece he brought his and my sister’s glove to play softball. and didn’t bring mine. or tell me to bring mine. or like. anything. and i told my sister “go play with dad, he brought your gloves” and she said “well i didn’t fuckin ask him to”. bitch. i wouldve fucking KILLED for my dad to do that. i would STILL kill for my dad to do that. i WISH he would just come up to me and say “let’s go to the field” the way he does with her. it’s not fucking fair bro like. please i’m a star 😊😊😊🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪🤩🤩🤩

i quit softball this year because i was ruining my mental health with it. i was absolutely demolishing myself for a sport no one gave a shit i played in. i spent my entire childhood playing so many sports and always dropped them for softball/baseball, it was always my priority. always my number 1. i had fucking dreams of playing D1 for colleges ever since i was a kid. but my cheapskate of a fucking father couldn’t be bothered to help me achieve anything. i’m so mad. i could’ve been doing something else with my fucking life. i literally spent 12 years busting my ass on this damn sport. and no one, not once, thought that with my drive and passion and dare i even say talent, i could do more. i had no options as a kid. and watching my sister, who was handed everything i wanted and more on a silver platter, throw all of it into the trash chute because she wants to be some basic white bitch, makes me wanna fucking rip my hair out. why don’t I get to be a basic white bitch? why don’t I get to play D1? why don’t I get to run around and do fuck all the way she got to? why did I have to play mom for 12 years of my life, never getting to pursue or do anything i wanted to do??

can i also say i suffer from fibromyalgia, a chronic pain disorder, and it’s something i was born with. so since i was 9 years old i’ve been screaming crying in pain every night and day desperately fighting through it because i just loved sports that much?? i quit catching because it was deteriorating my knees and there would be days after games where i couldn’t walk. my coaches played me less after i quit catching because they were mad at me for quitting since i was “the best catcher on the team” and decided to dig back at me like it was my choice?? like my physical and mental health wasn’t on the line? like it pains me to think i cant do physical activity anymore i love it so much but i walk to and from my classrooms and i want to break down from the pain. i’m so tired. i just want to be passionate about something again but every time i am i am just fucking hated on idk what i’m doing wrong

Ok so the way that spades slick finds out about house md is because he walks in on his colleague clubs deuce watching it on their dumb little box tv set.  he thinks most shows are really stupid but it catches his eye and he gets quickly addicted sitting down for 2ish hours to watch it. this is radical binge watching for him because i don't think spades likes watching tv or movies of any kind and thinks the physical act of sitting down and staring at a screen is embarrassing and humiliating. although the rest of the crew have favourite tv/movies spades only has things he doesnt mind watching and doesn't often distinguish. (i think he has this same attitude towards music) but the reason that house md catches his eye in particular is because he secretly likes house and thinks he's kind of just like him re: house's leg/cane thing and slick's whole prosthetic limb and missing eye deal. but this is almost subconscious because on some level he refuses to accept himself as a "disabled" class but of course when he sees house hes going to want to cling to him. but he would not admit this to anyone. outwardly he makes fun of house in front of deuce for his vicodin addiction and points at the tv screen while cry laughing🤣 during the withdrawal episode saying HAHAHA!!! HE'S ADDICTED TO HIS MEDICATION!!! Thats PATHETIC !!!!!! HE CANT FUNCTION WITHOUT THE DRUGS! He's RUINED!!!!! After this he starts going off about painkillers/drugs in general and how anyone who uses them will get put in their little sissy pansy ass place (but in practice he loves painkillers if he actually needs them). Anyway droog and boxcars have also seen house md a little. Droog thinks it's irritating and overly dramatic but he thinks lowly of anything that isn't a b&w film. Boxcars thinks it's stressful and that entertainment should be kept as entertainment (he likes romance sitcoms and hallmark Christmas movies [year round]). Deuce also generally prefers A24 shows and red scare art films. 

After this incident Slick is thinking nonstop about house md and eventually tactfully and subtly brings up "deuce's hospital show" to droog. Droog says he knows that one. It's tasteless. Why do you ask ...did you actually watch it with him? Slick panics and says no no, of course not, it was real bad, easily the crappiest shit i've seen. Why do you think i'd even subject myself to that. then he stomps away into his room and ruminates on this exchange and concludes that droog figured out that he likes it and that his comments were a motivated attack on house's crip status and in turn his own. He can barely process this and sharpens knives thoughtlessly for the rest of the day.

This is only one symptom of how spades slicks inner ableism manifests in that he can acknowledge that hes half blind and missing an arm but this only registers in his mind as personal shortcomings that he can compensate for by remaining fully capable. he cant internalise that hes "disabled" because this is the class of people he casually makes pointed and rude comments about and has a very one sided view of. Karkat goes to libtard middle school so he comes up to him and says "Hey dad they're hosting a disability awareness event at my school and i was wondering if you.." Slick walks away and lokcs himself in his room in the dark for a while and then comes out and asks karkat why the fuck he thinks hed want to be involved in that shit and just because he's missing a few body parts suddenly means hes some kind of God damn crip huh. (then he grounds karkat) It's just not compatible with his world view like how your elderly neighbour will be callig your girlfriend your "roommate" because gay people just shouldnt exist so they dont exist. When anything occurs that implies he's not as capable as he was before he simply ignores it. they are simply hindrances that he can work around. But if he met the other incarnations of himself like at a Jack Noir con they would be kicking him around and making fun of him and going up on his blind side and laughing at him  and calling him "one eye" and "the amputee" making him so aware of it purely because not only is it the biggest thing that stands out about him to himself, but the others have the safety net of not actually being HIM so they have nothing preventing them from externalising what theyre all thinking. It would truly hit for the first time and he would be so ashamed like a dog . But after a few minutes hed pretty much stop caring and start trying to kill the others in a blind rage and a massive fight to the death would break out if any of the others had not already started one (which is how any jack noir meetup would end) so that's that.

hiii my dear!! ouuu yes strangely enough i feel like he...doesn't really have many routines?? LMFAO like he's more type b personality than type a, i picture him to be a hella procrastinator so every day he's just chillin until like last minute he crams for exams in like three days or something, and then once finals are over he's just. chillin again LOL like i think he's just naturally smart so he doesn't have to have a study routine or anything like that. he probs enjoys not having each day be like the one before yknow livin life on the edge. BUT he has hella discipline when it comes to soccer fs he doesn't take anything soccer related lightly

similarly when it comes to morning routines, day time routines, before bed routines, i don't think he has many of those either since i'd picture he's got a really unpredictable schedule? like w practices n frat events etc, sometimes he's getting like two hours of sleep n other days he's like...sleeping in until noon or something haha. i picture he falls asleep pretty fast n tries to get some shuteye wherever he can n suffices on mini 15 min naps throughout the day. but yeah anyways i don't think he has like a oh im up at 6am everyday n go to bed at 10pm everynight sort of thing

in ch7, there was a scene where suguru was like "ohh never skip the pre game ritual man" or something like that when gojo said he was going to skip his run. yea i would say the only ritual he does without fail before every game is go for a run!!! i think it helps him clear his head and he likes the runner's high lol. he's also giving me wellness podcast dude vibes i feel like he does wimhoff breathing or meditation or some shit like that before games HAHAH
