Rewatched The Hobbit an Unexpected journey yesterday for its cozy value and the raw romantic energy between Thorin and Bilbo humbled me so hard I reconciled with my inner child (2013's -2016's me) like yeah girl you were ok they were very very gay you didn't imagine it and you were right to be so obsessed over bagginshield, go have fun mmuah

Just realised that going absolute batshit over characters and being, like, the hard core of the fandom is not very common at all. Like, I never realised my friends weren't being mean when they laughed it off uncomfortably as I was going feral over some pairing, they just genuinely don't know what I'm going through

Existing in more than one fandom space is like having more than one group of friends but both of them being so wildly different that any overlap at all would be like getting shot in the head

what if elves were like super weird. can we make elves super weird? like yah they're still pretty and elegant all the things elves already are but what if they made weird noises to communicate like clicking and whistling and purring and what if there ears were like really long and could move and fluttered when they're happy and dropped when they were sad and you know how you can move your ears a little bit ?? yeah well elves can do that but just more bc there ears are longer and they have more movement control and stuff and what if they were also just like super weirdly flexible and can could turn there necks around like an owl and they were all double jointed in every joint and could just fold them selves in half and stuff

#the clicking and purring noises are mostly made by children and younger elves but as they get older they stop making those noises #not that they can't they just don't but like parents will communicate with their kids through clicks and whistles and purrs and stuff #they can do the cat sound that's like mrrrrmh #and they flick their ears #they get excited snd their ears do a little flutter #can we do this #like i'm all for Legolas being the weirdo elf but can we make the other elves weird too and him just be like even weirder lmao #Legolas still makes those purring and chirping sounds even though he's much older than most people are when they stop making those sounds #you'd think his dad would be upset about this because it's “immature” but he's really not and he actually enjoys Legolas making those sound #he will occasionally chirp back at his son when he knows no one else is around to hear #lotr #lord of the rings #the hobbit #legolas #lotr legolas #legolas greenleaf #tolkien elves #tolkien #jrr tolkien #middle earth #lotr elves #thrandiul

i am so goddamn tired of every single fantasy story being about men. i am so goddamn tired of women being side characters and love interests and set dressing and an afterthought. i am so goddamn tired of women who are powerful but feminine. women who are "dressed to kill" and they are wearing eyeliner and a dress and heels. i am so goddamn tired of women always being healers and having water magic. i am so goddamn tired of men going on adventures and dying nobly. i am so goddamn tired of never being able to find a story about women that i can fall in love with. i am so goddamn tired of all fandom being about men.

#i have spent the past several weeks becoming increasingly upset about this #hannibal? men. lotr/the hobbit? men. stargate atlantis? men. dragon age inquistion? men. one piece? men.#the handful of superhero's i periodically read about? men. transformers? men. every goddamn anime i've ever loved? men.#the witcher? men. fantasy anachronism? men. literally every single fantasy adventurer series? men.#it's men and men and men and men and men and men and men and men #i just want ONE. one single goddamn story about women that is as well written and well made and as deep as everything else #i want ONE story about a women or women who are noble and honorable and fight in the face of impossible odds #and i don't want them to be pretty and small and feminine #make them hairy and fat and muscular and tall and wear steel toed boots and carry swords and fight monsters and sleep in the woods #and eat stew and carry heavy packs for long distances and be intelligent and sneaky and cowardly and fearful and brave #make them laugh and cry and scream and fall in love and write poetry and books and songs #make them wrestle and pick on each other and pull each others hair and sit around campfires #MAKE THEM GODDAMN PEOPLE #there are books out there about women going on adventures. they exist. i've read some #but they are not the majority and they never get big #and so many end up being poorly written or a romance or a combo of the two #i don't WANT to have to read genderbends just to read about women #i don't want to scroll tumblr and just see men on my dash #all i have ever wanted my whole life is to be a fantasy adventurer. and none of them. not ONE of them looks like me #i am tired of watching youtube critiques of fantasy shows/movies/stories and them just shitting on the women characters #i am just so tired of it

I've seen a fair amount of Hobbit × Dungeon Meshi crossovers and I think they're cute but it made me think about the characters in Dungeon Meshi in LOTR and knowing how the manga progresses I can't help but think that someone, at some point, would try to eat the One Ring and I don't like that
