I just. Look. I don't want to get all soppy about it. But the world is in a dire state and everyone's mental health seems fairly rough. And yet, almost everywhere I look on this dumb, barely functioning, discourse-ridden, bot-infested "website", people are being nice. People are posting positive things, and saying kind, validating things to each other, and expressing themselves in the tags and trying to be affirming to themselves and each other, and sharing their gorgeous art and writing and gifsets for free so that the rest of us can enjoy them, and it's just ... y'all are really cool, okay? The world's going to shit but someone made art in pretty colours that says we're all going to be okay, and someone else made a poll full of reassurances for people to pass on to their followers, someone is having the best day ever because a reader left rave reviews on their fanfiction, someone else had a terrible day but when they logged on to Tumblr they found fanart that someone had made specifically for them, someone is going through a breakup and their followers are sending them encouraging and sympathetic messages, someone is sharing their expertise and advice to make others' lives better, someone is recounting a funny anecdote so that others can laugh too ...

... and none of these people have ever met each other.

Not to be mushy, but. Sometimes. I look at all of you here on this stupid website. And I think. Maybe ... maybe we'll be okay.

The night is very dark. The world is very cold. But damn, look at all these little stars, each one so tiny, each one so radiant. Each one lighting up this corner of the Internet. Each one beaming out their gifts, for nothing in return, just trying to make the darkness a little brighter for someone else, if only for a moment.

Even if the world is hurtling into darkness, some of you are trying very hard to make the journey brighter and lighter on the way down. And I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

Okay enough time has passed for me to throw my two cents into the Bridgerton discourse. Many are displeased with the season and part 2 specifically. I have been trying to piece together what my issues were with it and I hope that someone can find this and maybe find something that clicks as to why the season may have been disappointing.

I am a big polin stan. In fact I started watching for and because of them. Totally believed in the supremacy of their story because of their adorable friendship and the long build up ever since the pilot.

I loved part one. That will be controversial but I truly did. Was the pacing a bit off? Yes it was!

But did it give us the romcom atmosphere, the yearning, the love? Yes definitely! I'll even argue that part one, the going from "friendship to love" is done more beautifully in the show than in the book. People said one kiss is all it takes for Colin but that's really not true in the show. If you take account of the history we have because of season 1 and 2 it doesn't feel that way.

And the funny thing is that despite part one having a bunch of side plots, it worked. It was walking on the edge of being too much but it didn't cross the line.

Not yet anyways... so here are my 6 big errors of part 2

Like everyone I was way too hyped after the carriage scene, which leads to..

Error number 1: The break after the carriage scene set the bar too high. The long break filled with press and interviews further hyping up part 2 after that high consequently did damage to the reception of part 2. I believe that almost anything after the carriage would appear as a let down due to the wait. That's kind of unfair to the show I know, but it also makes sense as we, the audience would have abnormally high expectations that are difficult to please.

Part 2 is flawed and there is no arguing that. The beginning of it felt like a let down due to the split right after the carriage scene aka the climax of part 1 (pun intended) but fine objectively speaking episode 5 and 6 are nice. But then comes error number 2, the fact that we have 2 episodes where their love is clouded by the secret of lady whistledown. I feel like that was problematic to the pacing of part 2 (which is a problem in itself). The tension in episode 5 was necessary but also so much. So much that Colin literally questions her feelings. Then episode 6 instead of lifting that cloud sooner, continues to sour the polin scenes until the very end of the episode. The reveal should have been earlier in episode 6, so they have time to properly heal and be happy. (Seperate errors that I will adress)

Error number 3 is how the wedding fell under the dark cloud of the angst. I was wishing it would be the happy wedding of bridgerton and it was happier than Daphne's or Anthony's (not that we saw the real one) but the queen disrupting the wedding felt like another punch. One more time we were close to seeing their happiness but couldn't. (Something we barely get to see at all)

Then error number 4 (my personal enemy). The pacing of the conflict and healing. The way Colin was hurting was amazingly portrayed by Luke and I even understand how Colin wanted to hurt Pen with the entrapment comment and unlike many I won't hate him for it at all. But one thing where the writing really failed me is how polin shared a number of scenes that could've had a bigger role in their healing but ultimately didn't. I will list the scenes and how EVERYTIME we think they are a step closer to healing, they go back to square one and how that effects the scene where they eventually do "heal".

Exhibit A: The modiste scene. Beautiful confrontation and it really set up the possibility of them talking through it more but then it ends abruptly with Colin shutting down (however I'm inclined to give this one some saving grace because at least they talk)

Exhibit B: The wedding. Colin once again gives us hope that perhaps they're closer to making up but when Colin walked away with Pen and they had a second confrontation where she states that she is lady whistledown, I expected Colin to at least accept that statement and not revert back to being in denial about it afterwards and shutting down again. This could've been the scene where Colin starts to accept them as one. (Not to take away from the letters scene but it would have been a great foundation for it)

Exhibit C: The bedroom scene. Ah my personal nominee. This scene could've been so much more and no I don't mean a sexy scene. This scene could've been thee scene where they talk. It would've felt more powerful to have the talk that they have in Bridgerton house in their bedroom instead. I can't stress how it would've fit perfectly and been book compliant. If they had utilized this scene better, then polin being at Fran's wedding the next day would've have felt more emotional and helped convince us of them gradually solving the conflict. Netflix, that wouldn't even take from your running time. Pen could've confronted him there as she did in the book. Colin could've faced his jealousy right then and there instead of having Cressida point it out for him and still not facing it.

Exhibit D: Bridgerton house. Yes they do talk here and you can see that scene as the one where they settle things prior to the ball, BUT one it is too close to the end and it feels cut short which frankly doesn't seem enough for the viewers to believe that they now have joined hands. This scene was personally not enough for me. I think if you expand the conversation it would be much better or again if you put this dialogue in the bedroom scene it would have been powerful and helped the pacing as the bedroom scene was in the first half of the finale and this one way too close to the ball.

You'll see that every scene post reveal is following the same frustrating pattern of them brushing over the problem. You in turn get your hopes up for it to develop further into forgiveness, then voila Colin shuts down and goes back to square one. That was extremely frustrating for me as a viewer as it happened multiple times, especially since it seems ridiculous to leave the conflict in the air till the last 10 minutes when they have had several opportunities to solve it sooner. Colin's peace at the end comes too suddenly as those previous scenes don't see him gradually make peace with the matter but always shutting down and running. Those scenes could have been used to show the steps of him gradually getting over it, forgiving her and facing himself.

Error number 5. The side plots and overall pacing.. As I said part 1 walked the fine line but part 2 crossed it. What do you mean that we get more scenes of secondary characters than polin getting over their conflict and having some time to see their happiness. That messes with the pacing, making part 2 seem to want to cram up as much plot as possible. You have Francesca's love match, Benedict's exploration, Eloise's general conflict and dynamic with Cressida, Cressida's own story, Violet's arc, lady Danbury and her brother's conflict, the Mondrichs arc, the solicitor, queen etc...

This season was simply TOO ambitious for its own good. It tried to do too much. Suddenly it didn't feel like polin season but rather the season to set everything up for the next season and that really hurts as a polin fan.

Finally error number six which is by far the most famous error. The lack of happy polin. As I explained episode 5 and 6 while showed some happiness it didn't feel real because of the secret constantly hanging around. They were happy but you as a viewer might have felt more worried and had a more bittersweet feeling. Especially when you see Colin get more and more anxious and insecure during those episodes. Then episode 7 and 8 sees them miserable most of the time. That sucks even though it is necessary it still sucks. Sucks because after all that put together we don't get to see it pay off. 4 episodes of angst and they give you one scene that suddenly heals it, 10 seconds sexy scene and an epilogue scene where they suddenly have a baby. It is simply not enough to balance out the dark vibe of the entirety of part 2. That is why thousands of people are hanging onto the petition to release the deleted scenes. So we can finally see the pay off of the angst and can properly balance out the emotions that came with it and move on.

Not to mention the absolutely wasted confession of Colin Bridgerton.. when he said I love you at the end of episode 8 I was already thinking "with everything that you are, everything you have been and everything you hope to be????!!!" But then he didn't say it and I was confused as to why they would possibly not use THEE love confession??? Since that's Bridgertons thing??? Having incredible confessions... And it's not like it didn't fit in fact it would have fit so well. At this point if you squint you might imagine hearing luke continuing the line for God's sake. That remains a mystery that makes no sense to me.

So by now I don't think anyone got that far and I can't complain because I wrote this for me. To structure my thoughts and make peace with it. And so to sum up these errors: the split, the structure of episode 5/6, the wedding sadness, the way the conflict/healing was handled, the pacing with the side plots and the lack of happiness to counteract the angst. I will revisit part 1 happily and just stop after the mirror lol. I will look forward to seeing polin happy in 2 years I guess.. and I do believe that when season 4 comes out and they're happy and are hanging around we will accept season 3 way more and come to hopefully love it.

I find myself questioning why I'm still bothered and how I let it get to me the lack of nuance in fandom discourse. Especially with K-Pop and everything I've witnessed in the last 3 years. The bigger the fandom, the less chances for it to be cohesive and attract a specific demographic able to participate in a certain high level of discourse.

I remember a few years back I was lurking in the Black Sails community here on tumblr. I was usually someone who would read the weekly reviews to tv episodes and that would be enough. In the case of that series, it didn't feel enough because to me, the reviewers were missing or ignoring the complexity of that show. And to my surprise (although it shouldn't), the fandom on tumblr was one of the best I had the chance to observe. There was dedication, yes, but more than that, smart people were writing these amazing essays and analysis worth of getting published in established journals. Well beyond a simple review. They were media literate, which is something that gets lost more and more as time passes.

Of course I don't expect that same thing in a fandom like Army. They can barely be compared. Army is way, way larger. It covers a wide demographic which is good and bad simultaneously. Theoretically, there's a place for everyone, regardless of their identity/background. So in cases like that, people tend to choose their own corner, subsection depending on where they fit and their interest. Perhaps a teenager is more likely to spend time on tiktok making edits and looking at clips, without following each and every type of content out there. Because they don't have to. Fans using weverse are also their own category that exhibit a specific type of mentality. Twitter and tumblr are places that offer the platform for a more discussion-type of engagement, with twitter taking the first place.

So, we find our community and that's supposed to allow fans to live in harmony. I know, funny. It's never like that because we like to peak and invite ourselves in other spaces. And the places can easily become echo chambers. But what is interesting to note is observing what the fandom deems as an echo chamber. A solo stan account or a shipper is an echo chamber, but an account focused on the group as a whole and only their achievements and updates is not. It doesn't matter that the user feigns ignorance when confronted with weird hashtags trending because they had no idea. They curate their experience. It's perfectly valid, but the danger of creating/becoming part of echo chambers happens to all of us, regardless of our type of engagement. The longer we sit comfortably in our corner, talking to people who are of the same opinion as ours, the greater the risk.

Nevertheless, there is still this need of showing one's superiority based on the type of subsection of the fandom we are part of. Which automatically fails because it shows our ignorance and getting to what I wanted to talk about, the incapability of engaging in a nuanced discussion. Of course this is not something that we should expect from everyone. Like I said, we need to know our "audience". I won't go to the weverse/IG pages wanting to talk about Asian fetishization in kpop fandoms. It would be pointless. But we do touch on those types of topics on twitter and tumblr. Which is why I don't find it completely absurd to have expectations.

Shipping within the fandom has once again been under fire today, more than usual. And it showed, as each and every time, that there is simply no bridge, no way of finding a common language, of willingness to have that nuanced conversation without resorting to generalized statements. The result of that usually creates more harm, divides the communities even more and sweeps under the rug the normalization of a specific type of shippers who transform mentions of sexual assault into a weapon to attack and offend. As serious as this is for people who are not online 24/7 in fandoms, it has indeed become the norm for those who are part of it. So then why we ignore it? Why do we generalize it instead of addressing the exact person or community who does it regularly? Because it's the crazy part of the fandom and those who are not part of it consider themselves to be better than others. Feeling superior is the ultimate goal. In a fandom of millions, we all try to differentiate ourselves in one way or another. And that leads to our fandom identity and automatically our position towards issues within the larger community. Being for or against, wanting to engage or not, is sending a message. It's always more about us than the people or content we talk about.

I know I haven't touched on 1% of what this topic should cover, but these are just some thoughts. We can't all be the smartest and better than everyone else when we are completely fixated in some beliefs that come to exist based on how much we want to use our intelectual abilities or simply refuse to.

BnHA Chapter 320: Deku vs. Class 1-A

Previously on BnHA: Flashback!Kacchan was all “fuck Deku and fuck his stupid goodbye letters, I need to speak to somebody in charge.” Endeavor was all “hello, I am Somebody In Charge.” Kacchan was all “listen up asshole, you need to let us go out and collect our wayward nerd because you stupidly left him alone with All Might and that’s a fast track to disaster right there.” Endeavor was all, “[self-incriminating silence].” Rat Principal was all, “okay sure, have fun kids.” Back in the present, class 1-A was all “hi Deku” and Deku was all “I’M FINE!!!!!” and Kacchan was all “THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT YOU’D SAY YOU DUMB FUCKING NERD” and so the kids all got ready to fight, because OF COURSE they’re gonna fight. Sorry guys, but yeah it’s happening.

Today on BnHA: Kacchan is all “what’s up Deku you look like a possessed Rorschach test, so anyway how are the new quirks coming along.” Deku is all “they’re coming along like THIS” and uses Smokescreen to try and get away. Kacchan is all “PHASE ONE COMMENCE”, and Kouda, Sero, Jirou, and Ojiro leap into the fray to shower Deku with heaps of love and violence, because this is a shounen manga and kicking someone’s ass while simultaneously proclaiming your undying admiration for them is just how it’s done in these parts. The KoudaSeroOJirou squad then passes the baton to Satou, Momo, Tokoyami, Kaminari, and Shouji, who are all “fuck this mask” and do a bunch of stuff to tear Deku’s mask off because they’re the real heroes. Shouto is all “LOOK AT THE LITTLE CRYBABY, THAT’S RIGHT, GO AHEAD AND FUCKING CRY and by the way let us share your burden please,” and once again I swear this is all very deeply moving and touching within the actual context. The chapter ends with Tsuyu being all “look at me. I’m the cliffhanger now,” and damn.

I’M TAKING NOTES HERE HORIKOSHI. at this rate it’ll take twice as many chapters as DvK2 for them to hash out all the stuff between them, geez

so by my count, Satou and Hagakure are the only ones remaining in this first tier of kids who Still Appreciate Midoriya even though they’ve barely ever spoken two words to him in their lives lol. so they’ll probably be next, and then we’ll get to the next tier of kids who are pretty good friends with him but not quite besties. and then we’ll move on to the IidaRokiRaka trio, and then lastly, to the boy who is in a tier all his own

today, like most days, you went over to peter’s place after school and spent your afternoon there. you started off getting through what you dread most by helping each other with homework. it’s not so bad with peter because he doesn’t mind answering your questions or make you feel bad for asking them.

next, you chill on his bed and go on your phones. you’ll sometimes show peter a funny video, which he won’t watch because he’s too busy looking at you smiling along, and you’ll pretend not to notice. your smile always grows wider with him gazing at you.

may orders takeout and you all eat together, then you’re back in peter’s room to finish off the night with a movie.

peter can barely function when you’re around him, but when you touch him? he’s gone. whether it’s an accident or fully intentional, he becomes a blushing, giggling mess in your hands. he likes you a lot, maybe even loves you. being close to you in any way makes his heart beat practically out of his chest.

right now is no exception.

your ear is pressed to his chest while you use him like a pillow and listen to his heartbeat. peter keeps his arm comfortably around you, fingers circling your side at a slow pace. he’s warm, warmer than usual since you’re so close. between that, the steady thumping of his heart, and him holding you like this, you’re starting to fall asleep.

you fight to keep your eyes open as the movie plays at a low volume. a chuckle vibrates peter’s chest, you smiling sleepily at the sound of it. you’re dozing off a couple minutes later. peter hasn’t realized yet because he’s so wrapped up in staring at his laptop.

“jeez, this guy is so stupid. she’s obviously gonna-“ he stops engaging you in movie discourse when he glances down and sees you’re passed out. a grin crosses his face at how peaceful you look. your arm is thrown over his stomach, cheek nuzzled into his chest while quiet breaths escape you. he’ll let you get some rest.

peter closes his laptop so you can finish the movie another day and grabs his phone for entertainment. when he sees the time, his eyes go wide. you were supposed to be home ten minutes ago. it’s a school night, and he doesn’t want you to get in trouble. he has to wake you up so you can catch the next subway.

“y/n?” he says your name softly, tapping your side. that does nothing. “y/n/n? gotta get up, lovey.” the pet name slips out of him and makes his face flush. it also successfully wakes you, with a smile. you eye him from your place on his chest. “do i really?” he breathes out a laugh. “yeah. it’s getting pretty late.”

pouting, you close your eyes again and hide your face in his graphic tee. “i hate taking the subway when it’s late. it’s scary.” peter forgot for a moment that you live in new york and people are creeps. “you don’t have to go alone. i could come,” he offers sweetly. his arm subconsciously tightens arm around you. “if you want,” he adds. you move so you’re sitting up and next to him.

“you’d do that?” you ask, smoothing down his shirt where you were laying on it. peter furrows his eyebrows and nods. “of course, y/n/n. i...” he lowers his voice. “i love you.” “i love you, too,” you say it back with no hesitation. your lips press to his cheek, hand still on his chest, feeling his rapid heartbeat once again.

About the embarrassing moment :

First… I gotta say that both theses meanies are gonna laugh about this embarrassing moment… Like the college Midorima pursuing medecine was probably there and didn’t laugh on the moment but..💀 You just know looking in his eyes the judgement and the little tiny smile on his corners lips behind the chirurgical mask as he’s the only one watching over you and waiting for you to get up.

Everyone would have thought that he of most people wouldn’t even give you a glance especially since it already happened with someone else and he stood there almost offended that someone dared to pass out and clearly said something about the ridiculous situation of helping a medecine student which themselves was supposed to help another person.

He wouldn’t think the horrendous odor he noticed as well was the reason why you got knocked down rather thinking about a burn out and you see the genuine worried expression on his face mixed with annoyance as he knows outside school you’re caring for others people instead of taking time for yourself. But once he know even if at first he was mixed about it as he was really concerned : it’s going to make him laugh… he tries to keep his composure and hide it but he just can’t. You just knows that he see you like a clown now🤡. After that, it happened to him to just look at you and smiles a brief moment obviously remembering about it before getting serious again.

Dares tease him once to the point he gets a little blushy and he’s not hesitant to remind you what happened on that medical block. He has no pity and still laugh even a while later about it, he has the image of you falling in his mind in loop but would never admit it behind his glasses and presumptuous expression.

Tsukishima on the other hand laugh in your face openly… No need for special context and everything he’s just the human representation of salt. And roast you once he hears about it… He’s like « Describe to me the odor… How was it ? » while there is that sarcastic smile on his face. He’s so mean one can think he’s asking to be slapped.

But in the end he’s more about wondering if you weren’t embarrassed and try to recomfort you about it in his own way if it really affected you : by saying you sure did more embarrassing things in your life and that he still isn’t ashamed enough of it to deny any connection to you when he is in public.

Very romantic from him isn’t it? He tries to correct things by asking you if you didn’t fall because of something else like maybe you were just hungry and that’s why you didn’t support the the odor of burnt flesh ? He say something like just be more consistent next time, take care of you first before involving yourself in operations and caring about others peoples.

LOVE STORY : Medecine is an hard study course for sure, but why it has to be even harder with such camarades and opponents ? A Midorima Shintarou is too difficult to deal with, he’s dedicated, hyper organized and egoistical… You can’t benefit from being his friend because he simply isn’t open for friendship and you can’t handle such intelligent person as rival. But somehow you made that way through his heart with the help of destiny getting paired up with him for a group project. He got a liking to you, finding you cute overall : dressing well, genuinely helpful and serious. Maybe it wouldn’t be that bad to get to know you ? He started to be nicer to you and paradoxically meaner at the same time, confusing you about your familiarity with him but you eventually got it about his tsundere tendencies and got to get closer to him. But at the same time you were developing things for Midorima the perfect fantasy of a top student your friends introduced you to that volleyball player, Tsukishima Kei. They kept budging about how good of couple you two would be instead of your unreachable crush Midorima and set you up on dates with him. He was of course showing annoyance to the whole situation but you managed to catch Tsukishima attention by being knowledgeable, pretty and nice. At least his friends picked someone corresponding to his taste but would you even be able to handle him ? He test waters with you giving you a chance to convince him you’re worth it, hanging out with you and going toward you when you’re both with your group of friends. He as well develops affection for you but takes things slow as it’s not his kind to show interest so openly and he takes you out on a library date to at least have an excuse in case you would think he was interested by you romantically but instead he get humbled as you reverse tables : seeing that a popular basketball player and medecine student Shintarou Midorima is weirdly hitting on you and say to be your study buddy after both of you got out for a coffee. He’s taller than him and just smell the kind of guy coming from a good wealthy family… How annoying was he feeling competitive ? You see how Midorima look down on Tsukishima with… some sort of arrogance ? You can’t tell but you wouldn’t have thought to hear what he said next : inviting you on a date after class Friday afternoon with such determined eyes in front of Tsukishima. The blond can’t help but coldly give him a death stare before coming up with some sarcastic remark about Midorima hair color asking him if he wasn’t some sort of hasbeen delinquent for the roast and that way their rivalry just began.

I had a conversation with someone today that was a little difficult for me. As in, it was the sort of conversation where I needed to pay conscious attention to stay calm and not get offended.

And I remember wryly thinking to myself, “It’s rather funny how I’m tired so quickly when literally every other day I get to figuratively hang around with people who Get me and are never triggering. Like, one would think that gives me enough recharging time to handle one bad convo like this, but apparently not.”

Thoughts like how “This’ll just prepare me for the ‘real world’” with a shrug, you get what I mean.

And then I realised a feature of my thinking. I was assuming that discourse was normal so I had to have the energy to deal with it. When, in fact, the discourse is normal (sadly) but the energy isn’t meant to come with.

Any bit of triggering conversations I have to face or unpleasant scenarios/comments I need to deal with is something unnecessary, but I have no other choice. Which means instead of sort-of-maybe-lightly berating myself, I ought to be glad of every good moment, and glad of every bad moment I was able to handle graciously.

Every time I deal with something I shouldn’t have to, it’s a plus point for me, not something expected, y’know? Like, it’s extra credit, not barely passing grade. I had every right to get annoyed or offended, but I didn’t. And that’s good on me, and on Allah for giving me that sort of patience.

And I can feel proud of that.

I know there has been a lot of discourse about Viria’s art and the skin tones she chose for Percy and Annabeth. I just liked how cute Percy looked in an apron with all kinds of batter on his face, and the sweet kiss from Annabeth, so I’m not trying to make any kind of statement, alright? It started at camp, after Gaea had been defeated. They were there for a few weeks to help clean up, patch up campers, figure out relationships with their new, Roman cousins. 

The Greek demigods invite their Roman pseudo siblings to join them at their tables for dinner, and give them all tours of the camp. Reyna is given Praetorship again, her actions forgiven in the face of her heroism. Things are going surprisingly well, and despite the gravity of what they had all faced, it’s the most relaxed everyone has felt in a long while.

Then night falls.

Percy wakes up, a scream in his throat, his hand fumbling for riptide instinctively before he realizes where he is.

His chest heaves as he tries to get enough air to clear his head and get the smell of Tartarus out of his nose. The light from the fountain his father gave him is comforting, but not enough. His skin itches, the walls are too close, the cabin too quiet...he needs to get out. 

He decides to go to the lake. As he pulls on a sweatshirt, he feels something in the pocket and remembers that someone (one of the Demeter kids who’d taken up baking, he thinks) had given him a brownie earlier that day. He shrugs and quietly closes the door behind himself. 

Sneaking past the harpies isn’t nearly as scary to Percy anymore, however, his heart does stutter a little when he realizes the docks at the lake aren’t vacant like he’d expected, his hand automatically reaching for the pen in his pocket. But then he recognizes the blonde princess curls.

“Hey,” he says, abandoning his flip flops and sitting down next to her, his toes almost touching the water.

“Hey.”

“I couldn’t sleep.”

“Me either.”

They fall silent.

There are moments that words don’t reach; luckily, they don’t need words. The brush of Annabeth’s shoulder tells Percy that he’s not alone. And when he puts his arm around her, she knows it means thank you and I’m here for you, too.

Wordlessly, he pulls out the brownie and offers her half as he holds her close, and the quiet moment stretches on for almost an infinity. Just the moon, a brownie, and two broken demigods.

Months later, Percy startles awake again, but it isn’t his own panic that’s awoken him this time. Annabeth’s hand thumps his chest as she moves sharply in bed, her eyes moving wildly under her closed eyelids.

They’re in Percy’s mom’s apartment now. After that tearful reunion, nobody was keen to be separated again that summer, and Sally was perfectly happy to let Percy and Annabeth share a bed with the promise of no funny business and an open door (much to Percy’s embarrassment). 

Percy is especially grateful for that as he battles his own nightmares. Annabeth is the quickest way for him to calm down, and he is equally grateful that he can return the favor.

“Annabeth,” he calls, running a finger gently down her cheek. “Annabeth, wake up, wise girl. It’s just a dream.”

Although the nightmares aren’t getting any easier, coming back from them seems to be. She wakes up pretty quickly, and Percy holds her to him the way he knows she loves best. 

“I can’t go back to sleep,” she whispers after a little while. 

Percy hums. “Want to go raid the kitchen?” he suggests, remembering the brownie.

Annabeth nods after a moment, and slowly disentangles herself from his arms and the sheets, and they slip out of his room and into the small kitchen down the hall. 

The soft light and the cold floor beneath her bare feet are strangely calming, and Annabeth lets out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding. She leans against the counter and watches as Percy moves about the kitchen, cupboards opening and closing softly as he looks for something to eat. She lets herself be calmed by the sight of him, breathing, alive, and here. With her.

Percy finds the blue cookies his mom made earlier, and fills two glasses with milk to go with them. Annabeth smiles gratefully at him when he hands her her portion.

They sit together, quietly eating their midnight snack (well, 3 AM snack, according to the small clock on the microwave). Annabeth hums contentedly as the chocolate hits her tongue. Something about homemade chocolate chip cookies finds its way into her very soul and comforts even the farthest, darkest part. 

And thus, a tradition is born. Nightmares mean brownies. Or cookies. Or cake. Whatever they can get their hands on, so long as it’s sweet. When they get married and buy their own apartment, they keep their kitchen well stocked with baked goodies and supplies to make whatever they’re in the mood for.

One morning, after a particularly rough night, Percy wakes up before Annabeth and sneaks out of the bed, careful not to disturb his wife. 

Once in the kitchen, he pulls out the flour, eggs, blueberries, baking powder, everything he needs to make blueberry muffins, which had been Annabeth’s go to nightmare sweet for the last month.

Except this time as he beat the batter, he flicked his wrist stronger than he intended, and a poof of flour flies up and delicately coats his face. 

Groaning and wiping the powder out of his eyes, Percy pushes on and ends up with a blue batter that tastes good, and carefully pours it into the muffin tins. Or most of it, at least. There are sticky blue globs on his cheek and definitely some in his hair, but it’s worth it for muffins!

Percy had planned to take breakfast to Annabeth, but as he cleans up, he feels a kiss on his cheek. He smiles, but it changes into a protest as Annabeth sticks her tongue out and licks some batter off his face.

“That’s gross, Annabeth!” he groans, but pulls her into a hug. “I was hoping to surprise you with breakfast in bed.”

“You’re sweet, Percy. Thank you. The batter tastes delicious, but are you sure you managed to get any in the oven?” 

“Oh, ye of little faith,” Percy teases as he sneaks his hand into the bowl on the counter behind Annabeth’s back, and swipes some of the blue batter. With a grin, he wipes it onto Annabeth's nose. 

She shrieks and jumps away, and pretty soon they’re chasing each other through their little apartment, yelling and laughing and making a general mess of everything. The promise of hot muffins and cold milk pull them from their antics, and they eventually make their way back to the kitchen, chests heaving slightly, breathless grins wide on their faces. Percy throws his arm around Annabeth’s shoulder and kisses her head. She sighs and leans into him, her brief spurt of energy fading as she allows Percy to lead her to the table.

They are quiet as they eat the muffins, and Annabeth’s eyes continue to droop as she lets out a yawn.

“Well, good thing it’s a Saturday. Why don’t you go shower, get the blue goop off of yourself, and we’ll spend a lazy day in bed.”

“No!” she says quickly, her eyes wide. She drops her eyes as she plays with the edge of the tablecloth, the flower one Percy’s mom had given them when they moved in together. “I just don’t want to go back to bed,” she finally says, her voice soft. Percy understands.

“Well, wise girl, how about we hang out in the living room instead?”

Annabeth nods at that, looking grateful.

While Annabeth showers, Percy gathers the softest blanket they own and Annabeth’s stuffed Owl, Archimedes. A stack of DVDs, and a pile of Annabeth’s favorite comfort foods are soon added as well.

When she emerges, Annabeth is wearing a soft pair of grey sweatpants and an even softer smile. “Looks perfect. You’re turn to use the shower. You’re not getting any blue goop on my owl!”

“You better not start without me!” Percy calls over his shoulder as he stands and heads toward the bathroom, dropping a kiss to her head as he passes.

When he returns, Annabeth is on the couch, her knees up against her chest, holding tightly to Archimedes. Percy joins her, and Annabeth squishes up against his side

“It was a combination,” she says after a few beats of silence. Percy doesn’t need to ask her what she’s talking about. “They kept going from Tartarus to Kronos to waking up and you being gone.” 

Percy can feel her breathing hitch as she is thrust all over again into the worst moments of their lives.

“I’m sorry,” he whispers, and his heart aches when her shoulders begin to shake, and he can’t say or do more to help. It wouldn’t make a difference. So, he just squeezes her closer, and she comes willingly, unfurling a little and shifting so she’s practically sitting in his lap. 

“Percy, I’m so tired,” she says, her voice thick with tears.

There really are no words, so Percy tightens his hold, willing the love that he has for her and the peace he wishes he could give her to wrap around her heart and calm her down. Slowly, slowly, slowly, her shoulders still and he can feel her breaths come more even. He doesn’t let go until she sits up slightly, her eyes and cheeks red.

Percy gestures to the pile of movies to distract her. “It’s your turn to pick.”

Annabeth decides on Lady and the Tramp, and they snuggle in to watch the movie. She digs into the Reece’s Percy added from the stash he knows she keeps in the nightstand (she hoards them like they’re ambrosia) and the two relax into each other, the soft light from the TV and the sweet music creating a bubble of temporary peace that neither of them want to leave.

It isn’t perfect. There will still be many days with nightmares and tears, but they know that they will always have each other and their nightmare dessert tradition to make it a little sweeter.

“Y/n, you do have to go to class.”

You gulp. You’ve been dreading this call- and Yoongi is staring at you. “I know, Mom.”

Your mom sighs over the phone. “Are you planning on dropping out? You’re still registered for classes.”

You wrap the blanket tighter around yourself, refusing to look at the other person in the room. Yoongi’s sitting quietly, waiting for you to finish your call. “I-I’m not dropping out!”

“When I agreed to let you go to Seoul Arts, it was with the promise that you’d keep up your grades and partially support yourself with a job.” Your mother’s tone is sharp. “And, Y/n. Not or.”

You bite your lip, your hand trembling to the point where you almost lose your grip on the phone. “I’m acting- I’m making money.”

“For now. How far can you go without a degree?”

You inhale sharply. You can feel that familiar tightness spread throughout your chest. “Yes, Mom.”

“Oh, here you go again. Don’t ‘yes, mom’ me. I can’t fix your life for you, Y/n. You’re lucky I’m friends with the dean’s friend’s boyfriend’s sister. How else would I have found out you haven’t been to class in almost two weeks? It’s not like you would talk to me about these things.”

“Yes, Mom.”

“I’m serious, Y/n. I even tried calling Lisa to ask what was up with you, since you never answer my calls.”

Lisa. Your throat feels tight, and suddenly you can’t breathe. Luckily, your mother doesn’t notice your silence:

“I mean, she didn’t answer, but still! What about your exams, Y/n? You’re going to have to repeat the year! You might as well just come home.”

Your eye twitches at her words. “No.” You’re not going to go home– not now, not ever, and especially not while Lisa’s still missing. 

You hear her click her tongue over the phone. It’s a sound more familiar to you than your own name. “Can you at least tell me why you haven’t been going to classes?”

You look up and meet Yoongi’s eyes. “It’s a long story.”

“I’m sure it is,” your mom says huffily, and you fight the sudden urge to hang up. “Well, that won’t do. I’m cutting you off.”

You blink hard, your throat dry. “What?” Surely it’s an empty threat– even with Moon Over the Sea, you can’t afford rent and the Seoul Arts tuition on your own. Your mother has to know that. “Mom, you can’t–” Yoongi must hear the anxiety in your voice because he catches your eye, asking a silent question.

“I can and I will, Y/n. Because this is what you wanted, right? You’ve done nothing but push me away.”

You can feel that yes, Mom on the tip of your tongue. And yet… “Because you were suffocating me!” You explode. “God, you’re even cutting me off just to control me, ‘cause you want me to crawl back home and admit I need you. You know what, Mom? You have the worst timing. Cut me off– maybe I will drop out, but I’m not coming home. I have bigger things to worry about.”

“Y/n L/n–” But you don’t hear the rest of her words, because you hang up with as much force as you can deliver to a touchscreen. Despite the blanket wrapped around your shoulders and your space heater on full blast, you feel the cold in your bones, and the muted panic that accompanies the familiar sensation.

“Y/n?” Yoongi says gently, sitting on the edge of your bed.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” you whisper, curling up on your pillows.

“I wasn’t going to ask. I was just hoping you’d eat something.” He motions at the takeout he brought over hours ago, and which you’ve left untouched. You’ve barely moved at all, and if you weren’t such good friends with Yoongi you’d feel embarrassed for him to see you in this state.

Despite the fact that you’ve eaten nothing today, your stomach churns at the thought of putting the food in your mouth. “I’m not hungry.” 

Yoongi sighs, pursing his lips. “Okay. Want to go outside?”

“It’s late.”

“That’s never stopped us.”

“I’m not in the mood.”

“You haven’t been in the mood for more than a week.”

“I-” your head drops to rest on your knees. “She’s still missing.”

“I know, Y/n.” Yoongi reaches out gently, as though you’re a frightened deer, and begins rubbing calming circles on your back. “But living like this… you’re not helping anyone.”

You feel tears filling your eyes. “I’m not helping anyways. She’s missing, and I’m useless.”

“Thanks for bringing this in, Miss L/n,” Detective Kang said, sliding Lisa’s laptop into a labelled evidence bag. You felt a rush of guilt. Did it count as obstruction of justice when you were only trying to find out what happened? Yoongi had copied the photo to his phone- was that breaking the law? “So, has Lisa tried to contact you again?”

You shook your head. “Radio silence. I’ve tried calling and texting dozens of times– nothing’s getting through.”

“Okay. Please let me know if you hear anything from her. Adults aren’t considered as high-priority as missing minors, but…” Detective Kang stared intensely into the distance. “We’ll find your friend.” He turned away with the laptop under his arm, and at that moment you spoke up.

“There’s something else.” What was the redheaded girl who pushed you into the river doing on Lisa’s laptop? If she knew Lisa was connected to you… it meant that your best friend could be in real trouble.

Detective Kang was eyeing you curiously. “Go ahead.”

But if it turned out to be nothing… you would be in trouble for messing with her computer. And– shit– so would Yoongi. “Nothing. Slip of the tongue.”

“Alright. Ms. L/n, I’m sure Lisa is safe. The most important thing is that you leave this to the professionals.”

And now, two weeks after turning the laptop in, there’s been no word from Lisa or Detective Kang. After unlocking Lisa’s computer during that movie night, you began seeing the redheaded stranger around every corner, and leaving your apartment has become more and more difficult; what if she finds you and tries to finish what she started? All you know is that Lisa and the redhead are connected, which puts both you and your best friend in danger. After all, the first time the stranger attacked you was before you and Yoongi’s fake relationship. Who knows what she’d do now? 

You’ve stopped attending classes altogether– leading to the argument with your mother– and you know you should return, but you can’t bear to go back to the place where you and Lisa spent so much time together. You haven’t even begun looking for a new manager. 

“Want to watch a movie?” Yoongi says eventually, clearly noticing you’ve gotten lost in your thoughts again. 

“I’m good.” You rub your eyes, suddenly exhausted. “You should go home, Yoongs.” If your mother really has cut you off, you’ve got a lot to think about– and some choices to make. For some reason, Yoongi remains motionless.

“Do you remember the last time you didn’t take care of yourself, Y/n? You ended up in the hospital.”

His words send you tumbling back to the night, that night when you fainted after kissing him. The boys had visited you, and then Lisa stopped by, and then you were discharged, and… 

“We wanted to deliver a message,” the redhead had said. “A message from the rest of us: you’re not welcome.”

And the push, the water, the cold, the blood, the cold, and Yoongi… 

“Y/n!” You’re jerked back to the present when you feel a callused hand rest on your own. “Hey, take a breath. You’re safe.”

Are you?

Yoongi continues. “I just meant I was worried about you, dork. You’re not eating. I don’t want you to pass out again.”

You look at Yoongi, and you can’t help but long for the relaxed days before, well, everything. Before Lisa disappeared. Before you got messed up in the head. Before Twitter decided it wanted your blood. When you and Yoongi could be yourselves and enjoy your friendship without so many invisible barriers.

Although before… you admit to yourself, I was lying to him. Now you’ve told him the truth, and everything’s gone wrong.

“I wish…” You slump forward to rest your forehead on his shoulder. Even though you haven’t left your bed today, your limbs feel drained of energy. But Yoongi’s warm, and he smells like cinnamon. “I wish we could go back.”

“Oh, Y/n-ie.” Yoongi resumes rubbing your back, his hands and voice impossibly gentle. “I wish I could take your pain away.”

“No, I-” you swallow thickly. “You’ve done so much for me, Yoongs. If only I were stronger.”

“After everything you’ve been through, the fact that you’re still here makes you stronger than I’ll ever be.” He chuckles as though he’s touched on some inside joke. 

“What’s so funny?”

“Just reminds me of some lyrics I’m writing. I think you’ll like-” Yoongi’s interrupted by his buzzing phone on your covers. He glances at the screen briefly, then does a double take, his eyes widening. “Ah- I gotta go.”

“O-Oh.” You watch as he stands quickly, nearly knocking your curled-up form over. “Is everything alright?”

“Yep.” Yoongi pauses. “Just a BTS meeting. I’ll call you tomorrow, okay? Please eat something.”

You bite your lip. You know his work is important, and you can barely believe he’s even managed to spend this much time with you when he’s so busy being a part of the biggest band in the world. Still, to be alone again in such a silent world… You grit your teeth and force a smile in response to his hurried farewell. The door clicks shut behind him and before long, your only companions are the yet-unending stream of notifications. They’ve gotten better, but you’ve long since accepted your status as ARMY villain:

Yoongi has barely stepped out of Y/n’s apartment before he presses his phone to his ear. “Hey.”

The reedy voice of an old friend makes him smile. “Hey yourself, Gloss.”

“You know that’s not my name anymore, D.” Yoongi chuckles as he walks out of the front door of Y/n’s apartment complex, spotting the car already running on the darkened street. He slides into the car and the chauffeur nods at him, waiting for a direction.

“Yeah, as if I’m gonna call you Suga.”

“Yo, you said you got what I needed?” Yoongi asks D. 

“Hell yeah. Man, it’s been ages since I got to do shit like this, thanks for the call.”

“Thank you, dude. I’ll send the money to your account tonight. What’s my location?”

D tells Yoongi the address he’s been waiting for, and the chauffeur pulls away from the curb. “Gloss, bro, why’d you want to know? Who’re you fucking around with?”

“Nothing important… but I’ll throw in an extra five hundred if you can track a phone number for me.”

“Sheesh, man, whatever you want. I remember when you didn’t even have fifty to throw around, let alone five hundred.”

Yoongi smiles. “I’m the same kid from Daegu, D.”

“I know that… how about the rest of the world?”

“Text me when you’ve got what I need. I’ll send you the number.”

It’s nearing midnight by the time Yoongi tells the driver to stop, about a block away from his goal. The address is close enough to the edge of Seoul that single-family homes have begun taking over apartment buildings. He pulls a mask over his nose and mouth, his glasses and hat completing the incognito look. 

“Get ready to leave as soon as I come out,” he instructs the driver. “And if I’m not back in half an hour, call the bodyguards to come find me.”

The driver nods affirmative, and Yoongi takes a deep breath. He has to do this- for Y/n. The couple minutes he takes to walk from the car to the front door are all he needs to reassure himself of that. He knocks three times on the door, checking that the address is the same. 

The door at last swings open, and a sleepy voice rings out. “The fuck…? It’s so late!”

Yoongi breathes a sigh of relief. The girl who answered the door matches the photo on his phone. Dyed-red hair, thin lips, double eyelids. So it must be…

“Hello.” Yoongi places a heavy hand on the door to keep the girl from closing it on him. “Nice hair. You must be Seoyeon… and I think it’s time we chat about a mutual friend.”

Been having some really good conversations with @spectralballadeer recently and haven’t seen anyone talking about this since the movie came out. 

I’ve seen a lot of people laughing at White’s dramatics at the end of the movie, and nobody saying anything about how it’s actually pretty manipulative towards Steven. It’s funny to see characters who used to be villains as overbearing grandmas, but guilt-tripping someone into doing what you want isn’t. I’ve seen so much discourse about whether or not Spinel was pushing herself onto Steven, but nothing anything about how White is essentially doing the same thing. 

White is certainly the Diamond that we’ve seen the least of but even with the screen time that she has had, she hasn’t made nearly as much of an effort to change the way that she acts and undo the damage she’s caused. 

In “Let Us Adore You” when the Diamonds are listing what they’ve changed, Yellow and Blue both mention things that are significant to their characters. Yellow gave up her colonies and disbanded her armies - throughout the series, she’s portrayed as a military leader and being heavily involved in the process of creating and maintaining her colonies. Blue is shown to have been flippant about shattering gems - like in The Answer. I’ve seen a lot of people dismissing the line “I never make anyone cry,” as being the bare minimum, but it really isn’t! In Change Your Mind Steven points out that she had been using her power to manipulate Pink (and others). Changing that behavior is a significant step for her. 

And White? Who took over and controlled other gems? Colonized galaxies and destroyed planets? She talks about how she says please and thank you. And makes the comment about “lower life forms.” 

Even before Change Your Mind, we see Blue and Yellow try to help Steven heal Centipeedle, and take him to Homeworld to reason with White. They still think he’s Pink, but they’re starting to understand. In the episodes leading up to and including CYM, they begin to fully realize that this is no way to live and that they actually hurt Pink. Even after Steven gets through to White, she never says anything about wanting to change or recognizing that her actions and mindset were hurtful, even if she does agree to heal the corrupted gems. 

Blue and Yellow also have motivations for their behavior over the past 6,000 years. Their built-up guilt and repressed emotions manifested themselves in bad ways. They didn’t have the knowledge that led them to realize they had hurt Pink. We don’t ever see White actively grieve for Pink or feel guilty about anything she had done. All we get is Yellow and Blue saying she’s spent 6,000 years in her own head. It wasn’t just Pink’s absence/“death” that made everything joyless - it was White’s cold sterility and her idea of perfection, too. 

There was a significant timeskip and I’m sure some of this will be explored in season 6, but I would imagine that Blue and Yellow have some lingering resentment towards her after ghosting them for 6,000 years. 

As an audience, we still don’t know a lot about White and the things that she’s done. It doesn’t sit right that the fandom seems to have accepted her as redeemed so swiftly, especially when she’s still actively being manipulative towards the protagonist. 

White has the least amount of trauma out of the villains we’ve seen and has the least amount of development after being redeemed. All of the Diamonds are comedically dense, but White is notably the most tone-deaf of them. 

The Diamonds are millennia old, and two years is just a speck on her timeline. I don’t expect her to unlearn the way she lived for her entire existence leading up to Steven. 

Yet I don't like and am not comfortable with White getting a free pass because she was silly in the movie. She and the other Diamonds didn’t have much screen time but I wish people would think more critically about what we did see. Even that little bit revealed a lot. It isn’t fair that for White to waltz in and join Yellow and Blue as if nothing happened for the past 6,000 years. It’s not realistic that she fully learned her lesson and changed for the better. It doesn't work that way when there are 6,000 years of oppression and abuse for her to unlearn. She still reads as being apathetic when it comes to others when it isn’t for her own gain. 

There’s no problem with liking characters that are villains as long as the ability to separate fiction from reality exists, but it’s strange that the fandom is so quick to accept her as being “good” and overlooking harmful behaviors.

Jaime + interacting with the Starks (my random 3 am takes)

(DISCLAIMER: I am not condoning his actions in season one he deserves everything horrible he goes through in season 2-4 but we can still acknowledge that it was in fact horrible and I can make light of season one this is just me talking about some interesting things I noticed about Jaime and his character through my rewatch, I don’t want discourse in the notes about how I’m wrong to talk about Jaime at his Peak Bastard Mode)

So I’m rewatching GOT and I will note that the first time around I spent too much time hating Jaime in season 1-2 to notice anything about his character but now I know how he develops and now I’m noticing character nuances and shit and all I can say is

Season one Jaime is so funny to me like . . .

Obviously there’s the whole thing with Bran which isn’t funny at all but the way he just goes around Winterfell and King’s Lansing saying vaguely threatening things to Ned.

He walks up to Jon (in admittedly one of my favorite interactions) like “you sure about this Night’s Watch thing I mean what are you fourteen, you’ve still got a lot of life to live it’s your life to throw away if you want to but like why” and Jon is looking at him with a genuine nervousness we don’t really see from later Jon (makes sense tho after all he goes through) like “please leave me alone you might have pushed my brother out of a window and you’re in my personal bubble so please-“

For some reason this guy either has a hard-on for Ned or a hard-on for fighting Ned and I kinda hope it’s both? In episode 1 or 2 he blocks Ned from passing through with his chest like they’re two adversarial jocks in a high school movie. If Ned actually wanted to he could probably forcibly move Jaime without a problem but because he’s all “I do what’s right and violence isn’t the answer” he doesn’t do that he just sorta stands there, probably barely listening to Jaime, tired of the Lannisters’ shit.

And he doesn’t talk much to Robb but Robb is basically like “listen you bastard, I already didn’t trust you and now my Mom’s saying you pushed my brother out of a window so I hate you but I’m not gonna kill you cause you would win if we fought.”

For the record I don’t know if Robb is openly admitting Jaime would actually best him in a fight or if it means something deeper like maybe he means regardless of the fight’s outcome, Jaime wins because that means Robb either died or committed murder.

Jaime’s to blame or partially to blame for a lot of things but he shouldn’t be blamed for Ned’s death in any part. Even Cersei wasn’t planning on Joffrey doing what he did. Of course the Starks being the Starks blame all the Lannisters for Ned’s death and . . . who can blame them this is a war they’re in. And Jaime didn’t exactly help his case when he talks to Catelyn at the end of the season. He’s taunting her, he’s making inappropriate comments about her but that’s just because Jaime is Jaime and he basically feels like “they are going to execute me at some point right well if they are I might as well die a I lived: a smartass.” He’s not serious.

For some reason it’s just funny to me that this was basically the only interaction Jon had to judge his character on when Dany is like “this man killed my father blah blah blah should we let him fight for us, what say you Jon” and Jon’s like “even for Targaryen standards this shit is petty I don’t know this dude, frankly he creeps me out a bit, but if he wants to help fight the zombies fuckin let him wE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE-“

And don’t even get me started on how Bran now knows who pushed him out of a window and doesn’t even??? Care???? We already know Bran was butchered in this season so I won’t get into that.
