Idk why but i’m trying to see what pokemon each dndad character would be (or at least untill i get bored of the idea) so im gonna do a poll to see what the ppl think. The dads go first !!

Look at this dumb anxious creature, doesn’t it just give off the pure essence of Henry Oak! Not only that, but when psyduck is under pressure or over whelmed it starts panicking and freaking out, just like Henry when he has one of his Henry Moments ™️ and starts yelling at one of the other dads

Also, psyduck has random moments where his psychic powers come to him and he’s really powerful. And this reminds me exactly of Henry in the beginning of the first season when he felt the surge of energy through his body and his powers would suddenly come to him

Idk, just something about this Pokémon reminds me of him… maybe its the crunchy munchy-ness of it. And also, looks like (or is close enough to) his wombat form!

Its kinda like how on the outside we see a pikachu costume but on the inside is a dark creature, and its almost the how on the outside we see henry, but inside him is an eldritch being (the doodler) but i know its not like the doodler is wearing Henry as a costume or to hide itself (unless you interpret it that way?), but it just makes me think about Henry and how he inherited the doodler within him

Straw Hats Pokemon League AU

I don't think I'm the first to do this by any means but here we go! I started thinking of how I'd make a One Piece AU in a Pokemon game format. I tend to play fairly fast and loose with the way the teams are structured; I like the thing they did in Gen 9 where gym leaders get a Pokemon not from their assigned type to terastallize but I would also like to see more gym leaders oriented around certain themes or gimmicks than just mono typing. These are not even remotely balanced and the few that have some strategy like Nami's can go wrong super easily; they're very very vibes-based. The region’s an archipelago, and all the crew members are friends who live and work on separate islands. I’ve always liked regions in Pokemon with lots of islands and water and I just feel like One Piece settings could translate well to that. 

Grass Gym Leader Usopp– The Usopp pirates are his gym trainers/pupils, and you fight him after going through a puzzle full of funny carnivorous plants like those on the Boin Archipelago (ideally there's a quiz format involved and if you get an answer wrong you get attacked by, like, a low level wild bellsprout or carnivine). This one could honestly have been more strategically developed although Shiftree and Sudowoodo were absolutely necessary because a long-nosed creature based on a tengu and a fake tree with an identity crisis are perfect for Usopp. He loves his status conditions and is generally very annoying to go up against Initial team: Lotad, Bonsly, Nuzleaf Rematch Team: Shiftree, Sudowoodo, Amoongus, Ludicolo, Tangrowth, Vileplume Normal/Doctor?? Gym Leader Chopper–This was a difficult choice honestly! I thought about making him a fighting specialist for the kung fu point, but ended up choosing this instead. He's a very young GP and gym leader on a winter island, and he has to split his time between doing house calls with Kureha and his League obligations and the poor boy is *stressed*. Marowak is there because Chopper and his backstory give me Cubone/Marowak vibes. The Sawsbuck is actually not there because of its deer associations; it’s a springtime/cherry blossom Sawsbuck because of Hiriluk’s cherry blossoms, I thought of giving him a Stantler but I think one deer is probably enough for him Initial Team: Spring Deerling, Stufful, Marowak Rematch Team: Mega Audino, Spring Sawsbuck, Blissey, Bewear, Marowak, Alomomola Weather (??) Gym Leader Nami–specializes in double battles with her cast form. Lives on an island kind of similar to Cocoyasi, and she's got her own lighthouse and meteorology lab up on a hill surrounded by tangerine trees. This is extremely strategically fucky and near impossible to program into something functional but I wanted to give her every kind of weather power and Pokemon that could adapt to every field change and hack weather balls at people. Nojiko and Genzo hang around. Currently training a Hippopotas gifted to her by Vivi and working on Sandstorm strategies Initial Team: Castform (Sun), Snover, Ninetales, Castform (Snow) Rematch Team: Castform (rain), Pelipper (drizzle), Ninetales (Drought), Abombasnow (snow warning), Castform (sun), Castform (snow) Ghost Gym Leader Brook–Brook is a touring rock star whose gym is on a barge with a kinda spooky ambiance; the Rumbar pirates work there as live musicians and there's a bar and a big stage set up for concerts. They pull up around the twin capes looking for Laboon around the same time as the player reaches there and are very distressed when he can't find him at first. I kinda debated giving him a toxtricity like Rhyme in SV but that's been done before and Frosslass kinda plays into his ice attacks, so I'm kind of leaving it open ended. His gym's located near the twin capes, and he's a former rock star who's slowed down a bit and taken some time off his career to look more actively for Laboon, who went missing in this world instead of being left behind. Laboon is a Wailmer Brook met years ago that later joins his team after they reunite, by which point he's evolved into a Wailord. Initial Team: Duoblade, Dusclops, Houndstone Rematch Team: Aegislash, Dusknoir, Wailord (Laboon), Polteageist, Frosslass or Toxtricity, Houndstone

Steel Gym Leader Franky– Franky's gym is also on board a ship he built, and he's docked outside a kinda high tech water seven sort of crazy artificial floating island structure. It's very much like water seven–Iceberg and Paulie run the show–and the Franky Family are his gym trainers. I threw in Alolan dugtrio because of the hairstyles and revavroom for the Kurosai FR-U. Metagross is there because I like him having a psychic type to link him to Robin (they're married and live together on Franky's custom houseboat). I thought of giving him a Magnezone but Franky with a Tinkaton just seems very funny and weirdly well-suited to his character Initial Team: Alolan Dugtrio, Excadrill, Revavroom Rematch Team: Alolan Dugtrio, Excadrill, Revavroom, Metagross, Probopass, Tinkaton

Psychic Gym Leader Robin–I tried to give Robin a few Pokemon that were more weird lore/ancient ruin themed without being actual legendaries to fit with her being an archaeologist. She spends a lot of time doing field work (Clover is the region's Pokemon Professor and her mentor; it even plays into the plant naming scheme) on a protected island full of ruins that looks kind of like Skypeia. I'd love for this world to have some ancient lore for her to research and make regular story appearances without the kind of tragedy we get in canon. Initial Team: Medicham, Duosion, Sigilyph, Claydoll Rematch Team: Bronzong, Medicham, Beeheyem, Reuniclus, Sigilyph, Claydoll

Water Gym Leader Jinbei–Honestly it was a bit hard making this one feel uniquely suited to Jinbei? Palafin suits his character best imho, but it was difficult choosing fish that ween’t tied in some other way to other existing fishmen characters. There's no whale sharks yet either :p That being said, Jinbei is a ship captain who works with both the Pokemon League and the Sun Pirates, and brings the player to a Fishman Island equivalent underwater town, giving you either a dive TM or something equivalent to navigate underwater and opening up a whole bunch of new areas for the player to explore. Initial Team: Wishiwashi, Palafin, Swampert, Omastar Rematch Team: Wishiwashi, Palafin, Swampert, Omastar, Dondozo, Tatsugiri

Fire/Kicking??/Culinary-themed Gym Leader Sanji–I feel a bit bad I gave Sanji so many starters when I generally try to avoid that for gym leaders but there's just not that many Pokemon with blaze kick and it's a necessity for him! You meet as he's soft-opening his restaurant in the All Blue equivalent, and going through some growing pains striking out on his own from Zeff (who’s very supportive of his boy's dreams but bad at expressing it). I threw a Clawitzer in because I thought I should give him a seafood item, and Siebold (one of the few Pokemon chefs) has one as his ace in X/Y. His team can kinda be split into kicking pokemon (Cinderace, Blaziken, Tsareena) and food Pokemon (Arboliva, Clawitzer, Garganacl). Zeff has a Stoutland, and the only reason I gave him one is because it more or less has his facial hair. Initial Team: Cinderace, Blaziken, Garganacl, Tsareena Rematch Team: Cinderace, Blaziken, Garganacl, Tsareena, Arboliva, Clawitzer

Zoro is the Champion and Luffy is the final boss, but I'll save them and my chosen Elite 4 members for another time. I'm not going to try and build an evil team, but suffice to say since I'm trying to make this AU a bit more lighthearted, everyone lives and they're all doing good

I dreamed that Vaati was in Pokémon in a final boss way a lot like N or Ghetsis, he looked the EXACT same but he had a really interesting team

He had a Misdreavus, Vileplume, Drifblim, Crobat, Mismagius, and a Froslass. And like you'd think "oh yeah emo party" but like they had quite a bit of significance

Misdreavus is how he started out in life, and so it's his first Pokémon. I imagine he was quite the mischievous fellow, since he had absolutely zero objections to committing theft

Vileplume. Vileplume.

Drifblim is there because it's described as "drifting on the wind" and ha ha funny wind mage

Crobat is for a similar reason, it's an angry orb with a bunch of bat wings, which is also him

Mismagius is there because it's the evolution of Misdreavus and it has a hat. Plus it's purple. Fits him, huh

Finally the Froslass, it kind of took me by surprise, but it represents Zelda herself. Zelda carries the triforce of wisdom, aka funny Nayru thingy, and Nayru is seen a lot with ice and/or water. Zelda was also kidnapped to have her power removed, and I don't think Vaati really cared if she died, and Froslass lore is "a Froslass is actually the reincarnation of a woman who dies alone on a mountain and now gains sustenance from feasting on the souls of men."

The fact that I dreamed this, amd I just already knew the elaborate backstory when I woke up is insane

What kind of Pokémon do you think the Control characters would have?

Okay, so I'm gonna try and limit myself to 2-4 per person. I'm assuming they won't have their whole 6 pokemon team, and just some with them in the Bureau or travelling with them.

Jesse Girafig seems like a fair, albeit a bit unusual, pick for Jesse in my eyes. Maybe a Blaziken, or a Growlithe? Umbreon fits well too. I like the idea of her having smaller pokemon that are easy to travel with though, so Blaziken, Growlithe, and Umbreon feel like a good spans of her personality and style.

Dylan Absol and Hypno both feel like viable options for Dylan. Espurr is kind of the funny meme answer, but fairly fitting I think. I can see him having a Wooper or Gilgar from childhood.

(There's no way Mewtwo could ever be on his team or similar, but I think he'd find Mewtwo relatable.)

Emily I can see her with a Froslass, Reuniclus, and Togepi! Togepi and Reuniclus fit her more scientific and excitable part of her personality-- a pokemon like Froslass (or maybe Gallade or Mawile) would fit the more elegant in.

Darling Sudowoodo. In a bowtie. Also a Quagsire! They just seem like they'd fit his personality.

Marshall Luxray and Nidoking, especially a Luxray. The kind you'd basically associate with her constantly, because her Luxray is nearly always with her.

Trench A Grovyle and a Scizor feel fitting for him. Stantler too. Grovyle and Scizor just fit his demeanor-- seems tough, but fairly friendly. Stantler I can't really explain... it just seems to fit him well.

Arish Scraggy. No explanation, just vibes. As well as Poochyena and Croagunk. Maybe a Croconaw?

Ahti Golduck :) and maybe also a Psyduck. Quirky janitor who has a lot more going on with him than meets the eye (and ocean associations?) Heck yeah man

Langston I remember @fbcbreakroom suggested Klefki for him once, which feels so fitting! I also think it would be very funny to give him a Rotom, especially in "fridge" mode.

Underhill Breloom, Vileplume, and Parasect. And a Granbull! The first three all relating to her area of study, and the Granbull just being Her Pokemon. I mean, look at them!

BONUS: Theodore Ash Jr Sableyes! Tell me you wouldn't be shocked if you went to the Foundation and found hoards and hoards of Sableyes. This guy would befriend them.

okay so hear me out: Laios Pokemon team

this is a first draft but I did at least try to give it some thought. my only real "rules" were to make sure to include pokemon that know certain HMs, particularly surf, fly, and dig.

Lycanroc: Laois has a kinship with dogs and the dusk form is rare and a bit temperamental, which I think suits Laois's interests and personality. Dusk lycanrocs probably feel misunderstood in a way Laois would relate to.

Luxray: I was hurting for lion-themed pokemon cuz I didn't want to use legendaries and I just don't love pyroar's design idk. but in my heart of hearts I think solgaleo should be here.

Archeops: It's a cool dragon-like bird dinosaur thing you revive from a fossil. I think it would remind him of Falin.

Parasect: It's a bug AND a mushroom, come on. He'd love parasect. I didn't want to rely too heavily on kanto/gen 1 pokemon (I'm an old fart and don't know the newer gens as well) but I do think Laios would genuinely love parasect. I also think vileplume or shiinotic would fill this niche, but thought they might be too "cute" for Laios's taste.

West Sea Gastrodon: At first I was going to use lapras cuz they sing but I wanted to include Laios's love of creatures that aren't necessarily cute or popular. I feel like Laois would just love a giant slug in a way most people wouldn't. I like to imagine he really agonized over whether he likes the west or east sea versions more and ultimately settled on west because they have horns and horns are cool. Plus, the "gastro" name/cooking theme of Dungeon Meshi tickled me.

Shiny Doublade: A living sword seemed like kind of an obvious choice but I also really wanted to include some kind of chimera or multi-headed pokemon in Laios's team because he sure does love chimeras. Doublade was my compromise. I chose a shiny Doublade because I thought it looked cool.

Finally, I deliberately didn't include any dragons. Laios himself admits he hasn't dedicated as much time/passion to dragons as he probably should as a monster lover and I just thought it'd be extra funny for him to painstakingly plan The Perfect (to him) Team and completely forget to include a dragon.

it's so hard for me to do straight up rankings but here's 5 that i absolutely love

roselia has such a nice design, it's so serene yet it has some sharp points to it, just like an actual rose. it reminds me a lot of a clown tbh, and i love that it's barely bigger than your head

vileplume. does any other pokemon have a name that rolls off your tongue so well? say it out loud, it's satisfying.a mainstay of any of my kanto playthroughs, It's got that more subtle creepiness a lot of gen I pokemon have, look at that smile peering at you from under that parasitic flower. imagine that under a real rafflesia

I was just talking about breloom with a friend the other day. what a weird but fun direction to take a mushroom pokemon. I like it's beaky mouth, and the fact that it actually fights at a distance by stretching its arms out. not to mention that anime episode where the gang ran into one that was REALLY PISSED

This one I like just for the weird factor. The fact that kartana is as tiny as roserade yet has a bigger attack stat than deoxys attack is just inherently funny. using paper instead of a living plant to represent the grass type is also a novel way to approach the type. plus, the dev notes on kartana are fun too

This should come as no surprise to anyone who follows me, but maractus is one of my favorite pokemon ever, definitely the pokemon on this list that deserves more attention. it's such a cute little cactus as a nice contrast to the meaner cactus pokemon we have, and i love that it has flowers just like actual cactuses do while fashioning some of the thorns into claws on its hand. plus, the way it has to hop to get around is adorable.

i just wish it wasn't so hopelessly underpowered. definitely a primo candidate for a regional variant/regional evolution. we got a spanish region coming up, how about a prickly pear maractus that dances flamenco?

14: What is your favorite battle you have ever had?

Hands down, the most interesting battle I've ever had was in the semifinals of the Lily of the Valley Conference. My opponent and I had both been holding back for every match before then, both understanding the value of surprise, but that wasn't an option in this one. I think all of our Pokémon used a full four moves (as limited by League rules), and all but one of their Abilities came into play at some point.

Her Audino in particular was a rough spot for us; his Ability was Regenerator, he knew Wish and Simple Beam, and only one of my Pokémon had a Fighting-type move registered for that battle, so he kept coming in to heal a teammate, and was responsible for Briar's Ability never activating, even if she was the one to take him out in the end.

We did lose, but it was a close match, much closer than the finals, so I'm not upset about losing, only about the tournament structure. I should call her up, see how she's doing these days.

Now, while that was my favorite battle, the most viscerally satisfying one was what followed immediately afterwards, in the loser's battle for third place. The other fellow relied mainly on Toxic, with most of his Pokémon being fairly bulky and having some means of self-healing. He did have a Lucario, which he used to clean up, and deal with any Poison or Steel-types, but he only made it as far as he did through luck, never changing his strategy.

Since I knew exactly how his team fought, and had a ready-made counter on my side, I just went with a setup sweep. Briar had her Ability nullified in the last battle, and it had never been activated before, so most people, including him, thought that it was something useless.

Needless to say, it was not. She completely ignored the initial Toxic, and let his Vileplume get off an Ingrain, taking the opportunity to use Swords Dance twice. Then, she proceeded to one-shot each and every one of his six Pokémon with Acrobatics. Looking back, it was more than a bit rude, but at the time, I thought it was really funny. And the kid (well, teen) was trying to trash-talk me for losing to a girl, so he got what he deserved.

Lyme:

Pokemon (left to right, starting with top row): Garchomp, Banette, Gigalith, Nidoqueen, Steelix, Tyranitar

Justification: Absolutely resents the “women must have cute/pretty pokemon” trend and goes for giant fuck-you dragons and monsters... except for banette (second pokemon going clockwise from the upper left). Because she learned banettes were just cast away toys by stupid kids who didn’t want them anymore and fuck that bullshit she’ll train a banette and kick everyone’s ass and that will show them, won’t it?

Brutus (forgive the sprite there were no better options, I swear):

Pokemon: Primeape, Machamp, Golem, Bastiodon, Rhyperior, Tyrantrum

Justification: What’s wrong with good, solid rock and fighting types that look like they’re here to fight and then just do that? Absolutely fucking nothing. Why people feel the need to get all creative about it is beyond him. 

Misha:

Pokemon: Gorebyss, Goodra, Mightyena, Salazzle, Mawile, Gyarados

Justification: She thought it would be funny to train pokemon that could be very strong but didn’t look “scary” in the traditional sense and then kick everyone’s ass.  Then she found a guy selling magikarp and decided what would be even funnier would be to kick everyone’s ass with some useless gaping fish on her team and she would be so strong it would be okay to have a dud. When magikarp evolved into gyarados aka a giant dragon she found that even more hilarious because oh fuck she’s going to beat up so many people.

Devon:

Pokemon: Alakazam, Slaking, Ampharos, Jigglypuff, Morelull, Swablu

Justification: Once he got a few very strong, very poweful pokemon, he decided he was entitled to a few fluffy and sweet pokemon if that’s what made him happy. The trick is that secretly each of his smaller pokemon have powerful abillities to manipulate an opponent’s mental state.

Enobaria:

Pokemon: Crobat, Sharpedo, Seviper, Absol, Toxicroak, Gliscor

Justification: She likes Devon, she does, but she doesn’t understand his emotional pokemon decisions. She’ll bond with her pokemon after she makes sure they can split someone in half.

Emory:

Pokemon: Arcanine, Dewgong, Ursaring, Dragonite, Manectric, Lilligant

Justification: She tried to type-balance her team with simple enough pokemon that she understood. Then she invested her energy and grew attached to them. When they started actually winning against the flashier trainers she secretly felt very vindicated.

Claudius:

Pokemon: Ninetales, Arbok, Dusknoir, Cherrim, Vileplume, Golurk

Justification: He actually managed to catch two pokemon before he went to residential and got some more “respectable” pokemon to fit his image. He found ninetales when it was a vulpix and he followed it around because fire type=warm and eventually he realized it would stay of its own volition if he gave it some of the food he stole. He is very tired of the “such a beautiful pokemon for such an ugly boy” because fuck off, honestly. The other story is even more embarrassing: he found cherrim as a cherubi because from behind it looked like food. It turns out it was not food, and he got a facefull of paralysis dust. He regrets telling Misha this.

Petra:

Pokemon: Rapidash, Talonflame, Infernape, Magmortar, Chandelure, Typhlosion

Justification: Her entire life people have been telling her to “type-balance” but honestly that seems like a waste of time. And in a life or death situation, her current team works pretty well. Can people do treason while on fire? In her experience, no.

Nero:

Pokemon: Clefairy, Eevee, Chatot, Flabebe, Sandshrew, Jumpluff

Justification: He can do enough damage by himself, he will keep his harmless, fluffy pokemon thank you very much. At least this way, he gets regular hugs.

Ronan:

Pokemon: Houndoom, Boltund

Justification: He has his hounds and is just fine with that now. You kids have fun.

Adessa (my sprite options were extremely limited on this one):

Pokemon: Roserade, Gardevoir, Scizor, Aggron, Corviknight, Froslass

Justification: If it is stately and capable of terrifying the general populace, Adessa will train it to greatness. 

Callista:

You'd better fucking BELIEVE we have a plot set up, I have poured so much effort into the Pokemon au

Okay, so: when it comes to teams, I decided that everyone should have at least one legendary Pokemon in their party as a way to be faithful to the ace monster concept, but it wasn’t until much later into the au that I realized I’d failed to do that with Sora’s team, which led to a very fun plot point involving his secret 7th Pokemon he keeps in his box

Teams under the cut because it’s gonna be a long one, boys

Yuya has: Groudon, Sandshrew, Popplio, Hippopotas, Aipom, and Ekans

In his box, he’s got Phanphy, Charmander, Politoad, Ducklett, Liepard, Skorupi, and Lycanroc (Midnight form)

I wanted him to have as many Pokemon as he could that reminded me of the monsters in his deck, and since Yuya is a coordinator in this au instead of a regular trainer, it just felt right that he’d have a lot of different partners he could swap out for various contests

Also I’m mad that there isn’t a legendary dragon that looks like Odd Eyes, so I had to give Yuya Groudon instead, making him the only Yu boy in this au to not have a legendary dragon type Pokemon

Yuto has: Eternatus, Bisharp, Aegislash, Aggron, Lucario, and Shadow Rider Calyrex

Okay listen, I know I was supposed to only give everyone One legendary Pokemon, but with Calyrex I feel justified because it looks So Much like it could be one of Yuto’s Phantom Knights, I mean

Yuto gets to have two legendaries to make up for Arc-V killing him off so early into the show

Aside from this guy, the rest of Yuto’s team just felt like it should be comprised of steel types ow the edge so that’s what I gave him. His Pokemon are as edgy as he tries to appear to be and that is enough to amuse me.

There also weren’t exactly many good Pokemon equivalents of his archetype, so I made do with what I had.

Yugo has: Latios, Scizor, Claydol, Porygon 2, Ponyta (Shiny), and Sudowoodo

Yugo was honestly so hard to come up with a team for because all his Speedroid cards are just like... toys and stuff for the most part, so I agonized over what I should pick for him for a Long time. In the end, I feel like I got close enough to his general aesthetic with the Pokemon I picked.

(His Ponyta is there because of Speedroid Horse Stilts, and while it is a shiny, the dumbass has no idea about it, and thinks he just happened to get a special blue horse that was born a little differently- he never claimed to be smart.)

He also deadass thought Sudowoodo was a grass type for the longest time. Rin had to be the one to tell him it wasn’t. 

“Yugo. Sudowoodo? It sounds like pseudo? As in fake wood?”

“Ohhhhh is that what its name means? Wow Rin you’re so smart.”

No Yugo you’re just exceptionally stupid.

Yuri has: Naganadel, Seviper, Victreebel, Toxicroak, Vileplume, and Roserade

For the most toxic of battlers, I felt it only necessary to give Yuri an all poison type team. I included an even mix of plants in there to tie into his Predaplant deck, Seviper for the snake eye vibes, and Toxicroak... just feels right, you know. I couldn’t find any other poison plant themed Pokemon that seemed like they’d fit his vibe, so he gets a poison frog instead.

Yuzu has: Meloetta, Sylveon, Meowstic (Female), Gardevoir, Florges, and Jigglypuff

I tried to stick with Pokemon that had very feminine vibes for Yuzu, since her deck is comprised of pretty singing ladies, so Meloetta and Jigglypuff in particular feel very fitting in that regard.

Serena has: Cresselia, Delcatty, Glameow, Lopunny, Persian, and Pyroar (Female)

The moon vibes with Cresselia felt perfect for Serena, and as for the rest of her team, all cats and a bunny to pay homage to her Lunalight deck ^^

Rin has: Celesteela, Mismagius, Hatterene, Glaceon, Froslass, and Chimecho

Her team vibes with the witch part of her Wind Witch deck, at least for Mismagius and Hatterene. Glaceon, Froslass, and Chimecho are there due to the etymology of her name, where possible meanings of it include “cold” and “bell”, which I thought was pretty cool, no pun intended.

Ruri has: Galarian Articuno, Pidgeot, Noctowl, Chatot, Altaria, and Unfezant (Male)

Some softer birds for the soft bird girl, for the most part. I liked the thought of her team being all birds like her Lyriluscs, and just... yeah. They’re all very friendly birds that Ruri’s bonded pretty closely with. Also I made sure she had Galarian Articuno for no reason other than it is purple like her, and I think that’s all the reason I need.

Gong has: Kartana, Machoke, Samurott, Golisopod, Hariyama, and Conkeldurr

Gong was really easy to assign a team to- just had to find as many samurai themed Pokemon as possible, and fill in the rest with really strong fighting types, like Machoke, Hariyama, and Conkeldurr.

Shingo has: Type: Null, Dusclops, Misdreavus, Spiritomb, Decidueye, and Cramorant

With Shingo, I tried to go for Pokemon that had the same vibes as some of his Abyss Actors, and I think Dusclops is the best example of this. Tbh I am very proud of giving him a Type: Null because Type: Null is an amalgamation of other Pokemon, something that was created in a lab to be a fighting machine. There’s nothing natural about Type: Null, and it’s kind of terrifying to Yuya specifically, who’s always viewed Pokemon as creatures to befriend. This experiment created purely to kill... unnerves him, and serves as a very good foil to his beliefs when it comes to Pokemon.

On a sillier note, I chose Cramorant purely because of this quote from its bulbapedia page: “Cramorant are also rather unintelligent as they can't remember which Pokémon they fight in mid battle, but never forget Trainers that they trust. However, they try to attack their Trainers if they steal food from them.”

I just thought the idea of Shingo having this dumb bird that occasionally pecks at him over food would be funny tbh, gotta dunk on the rival at least a little bit.

Sora has: Banette, Vanillish, Swirlix, Stufful, Litleo, and Buneary

In his box, he has a Guzzlord

I feel like Sora’s team is very straightforward, as it’s a mix of sweets themed Pokemon, and Pokemon that represent monsters in his deck- Stufful for Flufflal Bear, Litleo for Fluffal Leo, and Buneary for Fluffal Rabbit. Guzzlord... is relevant later on in the plot after shit goes down, that’s all I’ll say for now.

Masumi has: Diancie, Sableye, Corsola, Aurorus, Tyranitar, and Lycanroc (Dusk form)

Gem Knight girl deserved to have a bunch of good rock type Pokemon, and Diancie is like. The best possible legendary I could have given someone like her lol, the crystal aesthetic is just perfect for her. Not much to say here honestly, I just really vibed with these specific rock types and thought they’d make a good team for her.

Yaiba has: Zeraora, Kecleon, Pangoro, Scyther, Purugly, and Stantler

So I actually threw this list together just now because I realized Masumi was the only member of her trio to have a full team, and that just wasn’t right. I tried to base this team off the XX-Sabers as well I could, but it was a little hard with how many humanoid cards Yaiba has. With his legendary, I actually chose it based off this monster right here! 

I think they’ve got similar enough vibes aesthetically for Zeraora to fit him. Scyther is based on Emmersblade, Kecleon on Ragigura, Stantler on Garsem, Purugly on Gardestrike, and Pangoro... Honestly, it just makes me think of Yaiba himself when I look at him. I think they’d get along well.

Hokuto has: Deoxys, Espeon, Grumpig, Starmie, Lunatone, and Malamar

Psychic type Pokemon just sort of felt right for him to have, considering that his deck is based on constellations and has an overall space theme to it. Not sure why that translates over to psychic in my brain, but you know what, it looks right, I love this team for him, and I’m not gonna question it.

I especially think Deoxys makes a good legendary for him considering it is literally a space alien, and Hokuto’s whole thing is space, so yeah, he gets to have the space alien.

Shun has: Galarian Moltres, Skarmory, Fearow, Dodrio, Staraptor, and Talonflame

Pretty straightforward team I feel- it’s all birds of prey for the Raid Raptor boy, and I just thought the Galarian version of Moltres was neat. Makes me think of his Blaze Falcon since they’re both black and red.

Dennis has: Hoopa, Mr. Mime, Delphox, Zoroark, Alakazam, and Hawlucha

Hoopa seemed like a very good legendary for Dennis to have, given his deck archetype and all, he just kind of looks like a little circus dude. Its unbound form makes me think about the swap Dennis has when it gets revealed that he’s actually been a double agent the whole time, and the play gloves finally come off.

The rest of his team... I feel like they speak for themselves. I tried to give him Pokemon that matched up with his deck archetype, so there’s Delphox to rep the fire themed monsters, Mr. Mime because it just fits Dennis’ general personality- and I love the thought of those two being friends and just copying each other’s theatric poses. Chaotic dynamic duo.

(Also: Zoroark's ability letting it disguise itself as another Pokemon is just another parallel to Dennis pretending to be one of the good guys at first, and I love it)

Shinji has: Buzzwole, Beedrill, Vespiquen, Ribombee, Kricketune, and Leavanny

I tried to give the bee man all the bees I could, but there are only so many bee Pokemon out there 😔 I knew the rest of his team had to be insect types to make up for it, so I picked Kricketune because he is just... a friend... a musical buddy who definitely gets along well with the kids. Leavanny is just a bug mom who also helps patch up the kids’ clothing when they get tears in them, which I just love the idea of. Sweet bug mom whose dex entry talks about how they sew for other Pokemon looks after her trainer’s kids when she’s not battling.

Crow has: Murkrow, Braviary, Starly, Swellow, Pikipek, and Corviknight

Bunch of birds for my Blackwing user... This team was partially picked out by June, and it was mostly meant for the Other Pokemon au, but I don’t really see a reason to change his team here. Crow is the one person without a legendary on his team, which makes me sad, but there really isn’t a legendary bird out there that fits his vibes, so as much as I wanna give him a legendary, he will have to make do without one. Sorry Crow.

Hoo... that’s finally all the teams down. Now I can talk about the plot! So, as I briefly mentioned in a previous post (I think), this particular au is inspired by Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum! It’s the era where contests really became a big thing, which is perfect for a lot of these characters because it’s easy to translate dueltaining over to coordinating in this world. Much like in canon, Yuya aspires to be as great a coordinator as his dad was, and strives to entertain people the way Yusho could. He’s not much for battling, and far prefers getting to show off his Pokemon’s talents in contests than anything. 

Academia is going to play the role of Team Galactic in this au, which is incredibly fitting with their mission in canon: to remake the universe in their leader’s image. In this case, with Leo Akaba taking on the role of Cyrus, his intent is, presumably, to either destroy the universe that took his daughter from him, or create a new one where she can live once again, no matter the cost.

Sora being a key member in Team Galactic is a very big part of the plot in this au: his mission was to capture one of the lake legendaries, Uxie, since Leo needed all three of them for his plan to remake the universe, but things don’t exactly go well for him, and he ends up losing his battle against Uxie, resulting in all of his memories being locked away, and essentially making him a blank slate.

Side note: the Galactic grunt haircut reminds me a lot of Sora, I mean just look at it

Practically same bangs as him, just add an upturned ponytail and you’ve got my son.

This post is getting very long... but I will add one last plot related thing to it before I go: Uxie can erase memories, Mesprit can erase emotions, and Azelf can erase willpower. All three of these lake legendaries play a very important role in the plot, due to being the keys to Leo Akaba’s plans to remake the universe. Sora was touched by Uxie, effectively doing away with all memory he has of being in Team Galactic. Yuya ends up touched by Mesprit in an attempt to save them, and subsequently loses his emotions as a result. Riley?

Riley had been affected by all three of them before the plot began, which is why she is the way she’d been in Arc-V: Emotionless, unable to remember anything about her past except for those brief, fleeting flashes of memory when put into certain situations she’d experienced before, and without any will of her own. She’s so dependent on her older brother because she quite literally has no clue what to do with herself without being told to, and needs orders to function.

I just noticed Pokemon has a lack of parasites in it's setting. I think we need more. =) One parasite I would like to see is a parasite like Lavos from Chrono Trigger. XD

Hi there! I’m going to put the discussion of this under the keep reading tab just because parasite talk TW: real life parasites discussion, real life bug discussion

Pokemon does have a few parasites with Nihilego being the most famous one. But also let’s not forget the Paras and Parasect line which are both taken over by the parasitic mushroom on their body. Not to mention the parasitic relationship between Shellder and Slowbro and Slowking. And interestingly enough, both Gloom and Vileplume are based off of a parasitic plant from the genus Rafflesia.

So we do have a few Pokemon based off of parasites. However they don’t tend to design Pokemon based completely off of parasites like protozoa and helminthes like the Lavos creature you mentioned (the exception being Gloom and Vileplume as they are directly based off of the parasitic plant). I think that’s because if you’ve ever looked at a picture of a parasite they are usually pretty unnerving. I think that’s why it took so long for us to get even a mosquito and cockroach based Pokemon because both of those insects are often seen in a very negative light. And even then they tried their best to give both Buzzwole and Pheremosa funny or beautiful properties to make them less unnerving for players. 

So while I won’t say it’s out of the realm of possibility to get a Pokemon that’s design is more like say a heartworm or tapeworm (I could definitely see that as a potential legendary in a future game) the Pokemon design team may be wary of  making such a Pokemon as of now.

Shovel Knight X Pokemon AU

@tvitrickster gave me the idea. 

There’s a lot here so it’s under a read more. Also there’s a few spoilers so beware

Okay. Digging Bros. Diglett would help Shovel Knight break blocks and dig up treasure.

Again, digging bros. But Black Knight is only slightly different from Shovel Knight so he gets a slightly different diglett.

You might think Plague Knight would have a poison type, but Cyndaquil is much better for him imo. They look similar AND Cyndaquil is a built-in Bunsen Burner!

Specter Knight would get Dusknoir because they’re both cool looking ghosts.

I though King Knight having a Magikarp partner would be both funny and fitting because he talks a big game but is honestly the easiest guy to beat in the main game. 

Polar Knight and Beartic are a match made in heaven. Look at them. They even have matching beards.

Anchor Shot buddies! Treasure Knight and Dhelmise would work very well together imo. 

Mole Knight and Heatmor were made for each other. I mean, just look at them. 

Tinker Knight has Golurk because he needs a humongous friend to reach the high shelves. Also Golurk is a powerhouse and Tinker Knight has a mech.

Thought about giving Propellor Knight Barraskewda but I needed to give somebody Corviknight. 

Phantom Striker flies and has lightning powers. So does Vikavolt. Also Phantom Striker is my favorite knight and Vikavolt is my favorite Pokemon so this was just self care

The Baz gets a rat.

Reize has a Scyther because they look like they would be friends and fight well together.

Mona gets a vileplume because they would be a dynamic poisonous duo. Look at those two they would have so much fun together

Mr. Hat has a Hatterene because hats.
