I was talking with a friend about last night’s episode, and she agreed with me that while it wasn’t the most emotional episode of the series (that honor goes to vax’s goodbye and molly’s funeral), it was, by far, the most intense and emotionally straining episode.

It was the fact that we had to sit there and watch with ever-increasing dread as the characters struggled to push on, and they just kept getting beaten down. Over and over and over until they couldn’t get back up anymore. 

Watching the desperation and the horror and the panic as the characters realized at the same time we did that they were losing, and even then, they didn’t stop losing. They kept losing until they weren’t just losing the game anymore, they were losing lives.

And the fact that we could see it happening, and the characters could see it happening, and nothing could be done about it is what made it so emotionally cutting. The helplessness and fear in the face of inevitability is what made this episode so grim.

Okay but imagine if Laudna is actually dead. Like fully dead-dead this time. She survived her first death and she's survived for decades but then she met Imogen and finally LIVED for a few glorious years. And then Imogen's worst fear came true and her destiny caught up to her but instead of her dying in that storm it was Laudna. And now she's alone and finally she understands what Laudna meant by the worst thing to ever happen to me has already happened and the storm killed Laudna and Imogen is the storm

So we can basically call this ark, "Imogens no good, very bad time in Bassuras" right?

my feelings for episode 34 after *that* episode

*Narratively, I like a lot of things about this whole battle :

-It may be one of the rare battles where FCG felt so useless (they were too far away from the others or tapped out of spells and had to watch everyone getting wrecked around them) and with all they discovered so far it must have felt horrible to them.

-I fint it SOOOOOO interesting that Ashton was the only one running away in the end (and yes it was the plan and they just happened to be the only one who had the good timing to get away -at the exception of Imogen- but the parallel with the Nobodies is just *chef’s kiss*). I don’t know how conscious of this parallel Taliesin was or if he was just in survival mode (I mean who could blaim him with the Molly ptsd) but it certainly makes for a nice narrative.

-Chetney doing his best to chase Otohan and trying to help the others get away, chosing to fight instead of running away (which I pretty sure he could have succeeded with his abilities) kind of got me, he was trying so hard !

-Laudna who kept clinging to life and trying to gave that same chance of defying death to her friends. I thought she was gonna go down so hard at one point and that Nat 20 on her third death save was amazing !! (and that cliffhanger at the end where we don’t know if she died or not aaaaaah !!)

-Imogen’s whole internal battle, she gave every tricks she had left until the last moment to resist, to keep herself in control and that fatal Nat 1 at the end with Laudna at death’s doors (again) was such a good dice-storytelling moment (what is she now ???)

-I’ve already talked about Orym’s death but both his and Fearne’s last moments hurt. I think I’m still hopeful about them so I won’t dwell too much on them until we have more infos in next episode.

-Also RIP to Treshi at this point.

*I’m still wondering how the fuck they will get out of this situation. Maybe we’re too pessimistic about Ruidus and it is actually gonna save the day through Imogen hahahaha ???? Anyway, very curious, can’t wait for thursday, I’m gonna try my best to catch this one live !
