Ω PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS:
💖 APHRODITE: Goddess of Love and Beauty 🕊
author's note: I had a sudden idea about writing some headcanons Camp Halfblood demigods being claimed and what it's like for each respective god and cabin, followed by a small blurb afterwards. Thank you for reading and please like and reblog! The order is not in order of the cabin numbers. [PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS MASTERLIST]
When you arrive at camp, you’re already got eyes following you. There’s something about you that draws people’s eyes to you. It could be your face, your hair, your eyes, your hands when they move, how you walk, how you move. So when you get claimed by Aphrodite, your fanfare is totally expected by others and unexpected when you get a magical makeover by your godly mother’s blessing. You’re dressed to the nines, your look done up perfectly like you're a movie star walking on the red carpet. People stare at you with awe and you can feel it.
The moment you are shown the Cabin, all you can think of is “Oh god it’s a god dang barbie mansion”; this may either fulfill your deepest childhood dream or your worst nightmare.
There’s gossip everywhere in the cabin. You’re hearing about people’s love lives, social interactions, and everything about the people in camp. Even if you’re not as romantically inclined yourself, you’re practically spoiled for choice for hearing about drama. There may be no TV or shows for you to watch, but this is the next best thing. It’s like the Kardashians, House Wives, and Golden Girls all the same.
Shipping. So much shipping. Shipping between campers in your cabin and outside the cabin. Shipping between movie stars to literal characters. Heck, even self-shipping is encouraged! It’s a shipper's galore.
The Aphrodite cabin likes to have fashion runs. A lot of the Aphrodite demigods become models and do a catwalk. But if you’re not that interested in being a model, there are still ways to participate.
If you like to design and make your own clothes, the Aphrodite cabin has your back. You have access to all types of fabrics, patterns, and materials you could need. You have no shortage of models for you to work with. If you’re interested in doing make-up, cosmetic or movie makeup,  you have plenty of people to practise on. Even if children of Aphrodite have the ability to have permanent makeup and whatnot, it doesn’t mean you still can’t use your skills to be on fleek.
You know the meme where you see a woman putting eyeliner with the sword to make sure it's sharp? You see that way too often.
You're swiftly proven that functionality being sacrificed for fashion is a myth. It can be done and it has been done, but it's just some outweigh functionality with AESTHETICS
Stans. Stans everywhere. People don’t usually see the Aphrodite kids fight and break character unless it comes to their stan. If you haven’t seen them fight before, you do now. You’re still reeling from the BTS stans.
K-dramas. K-pop. Enough said.
You look at yourself as best as you could, it was both familiar yet foreign.  It was like looking at the mirror, seeing yourself and all the positives of your body. Even if you had a negative view of yourself, it was gone and changed.
A girl stepped up, her black hair swaying, and you looked at her in awe as she smiled at you. “Hi! My name is Silena Beauregard, welcome to Cabin 10!”
“Oh hi” you said lamely, but before you could say anything further, you saw a large amount of pink in your vision. “Oh my god” you couldn’t help uttering as soon as your eyes laid on the Aphrodite cabin. It was pink in glory, and all you can think was that it was a true to god barbie house.
“Ah yeah,” said Selina, “Welcome to the Barbie house.”
“Wait it’s really called that?”
“Well, we really shouldn’t be calling it a Barbie house, but ... .I do admit it is pretty much a barbie house” Selina whispered in the last part.
You couldn’t help snicker and Selina gave you a knowing smile and wink, before she led you to the door.
“You ready?” she asked.
“Ready as I’ll ever be” you replied after taking a deep breath.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be here for every step of the way” she reassured and you smiled back. As soon the door opened, there was a waft of perfume. It wasn’t particularly strong or particularly bad, in fact it made you happy, but you could smell it anyways. There was a twinge of emotion that stirred up in you; it reminded you of smelling a perfume that reminded you of home and love…for some reason, you had a flash of a woman holding you to her chest and you burying your nose into her, your eyes closing with warmth.
“Hey everyone, let me introduce you to our new half-sibling!” introduced Selina, gently putting a hand on your shoulder. You raised your hand and waved, introducing yourself. That was all it took before the flood work came. Immediately, all the inhabitants in the cabin begun to interview you from where you were from, your favourite colour, your favourite colour, band, and etc-
Your head was absolutely swimming but as you all talked to each other, sharing your likes and dislikes, you had a feeling you were going to be alright.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And these guys designs I’ve been putting off posting lol
Sasha is finally doing intern program and gets saddled with the crazy alien kid instead of the calm one—
Tumblr media
These aren’t set in stone but here’s the idea (also Hollis needs an intern lol, I might make a new character so it isn’t entirely just camp kids, or maybe an Aquato kid)
Raz is Cher’s “assistant teacher” which is hell on earth for both Raz and Kitty.

Name: Fútbot
Debut: Mario Strikers: Battle League
Today we will be talking about famous bad game Mario Strikers: Battle League! I do not care about sports games even if they do contain Shy Guy, but geez, I'm sorry to those of you who do. You just can't catch a break.
But maybe there's hope? Maybe a brand new character, unique to this game, could spark some intrigue? Surely a one-off robot in a Mario game would at least appeal to ME, right? RIGHT?
Wrong! I think Fútbot is stupendously mid. Note that I called it a "robot". Not even a "funny robot". That's how you know I'm serious! As a design, Fútbot has some interesting things going on, I suppose. A propeller for a lower body, a puppety mouth, and a glowing sphere of a "tongue". But it just doesn't do it for me! My favorite part of this character is the cute name.
Tumblr media
Fútbot simply feels like a mascot and nothing else. This could be the mascot for anything. An antivirus software. A local TV channel that shows both football and The Big Bang Theory reruns. A week-long STEM summer camp for 8-12 year olds. Fútbot could be anything, and so it feels like nothing.
Tumblr media
Fútbot is here to help you and give advice, and I suppose I do like that they made a new character for the role! I have been hard on Fútbot, but I would have NOTHING to say about this game without its presence. I would rather it be here! I also think it's neat that Fútbot is a representative of the Galactic Strikers Federation, implying a bit of new Outer Lore to Mario's universe. I COULD say that it makes sense it wouldn't look like a Mario character, since it's from a galactic organization, not limited to Mario's planet... but we know very well that there are Mario enemies all throughout Mario's galaxy and beyond! No excuse!
There is one great thing about Fútbot. Something I've been saving for the very end. Let's look closely.
Tumblr media
These eyes. Bright, glowing cyan, with concentric rings within. They're not an exact match, but they absolutely bring to mind...

Hello! If IOL were to get adapted into a TV show (or film I suppose), what are some things you'd be excited for, or things you'd want revealed that we don't get from Elliot's POV?
(also fun fact: my name is Elliot too! It may or may not have been very helpful in getting me to read the book three years ago)
Hi Elliot! A fine name. :)
The silver screen by its nature allows us into more points of view - it’s why my TV tie-ins always had more and briefer PoVs than I usually write, to give the same effect as a moving camera. And In Other Lands is a very limited third by design, since we really have to feel Elliot’s feelings to be in it with him. So immediately a visual, more-on-the-surface medium would open the story up to more reveals - there’s a lot to be done with Serene and Luke, and (for my money) with Captain Woodsinger, Golden, Adara and Myra.
The question also arises what the director’s or showrunner’s vision is, because the showrunner would not be me. There are so many different ways to tell a tale.
If they’re going gritty child soldiers, there’s more to be done with the wars between the different peoples, with dryads and dwarves, and with Delia Winterchild and her lost twin. If they’re going, say, romcom like a fantasy Heartstopper, we’re probably putting Wings In the Morning and In Other Lands in a blender and starting with the characters 15 and up. If they’re doing children’s adventure a la (gayer, weirder) Percy Jackson, we might meet the key three waking up in their respective settings on the day they head off to the Border camp - Serene exiting in a rebellious huff after blazing row with her mother, Luke worried under the weight of loving expectation, Elliot totally clueless and friendless in another world - are these children going to meet? What will hap— Holy SHIT the redhead is being rude! But we’d get it, because we saw where he came from.
The mood of a story is often dictated by what information you parcel out when.
And TV throws curveballs. (Movies less often.) What if the Elliot and Adara actors had lightning-in-a-bottle chemistry? What if Luke and Dale did? I hardly dare imagine. But then again, if it was a She-Ra-style animated series, that would be far less likely. So it’s hard to say what I’d be excited for, as I wouldn’t know what to expect!
I’d be really excited if they did any kind of series, because that’s such a show of faith in my work. And it would mean more job security, and new covers, and more chances for me to get more readers and perhaps most important of all to write more in the In Other Lands world… which (more on this later) I would love to do.
A show is always a wild shot - I’d always try to think of the books as my first concern, as they might do something totally bonkers with an adaptation. (Me, if Luke and Serene fell in romantic love while Elliot died a cowardly weasel’s death: What Show? I Cannot Perceive the Moving Pictures, I Just Do Not Know.) Buuuut, if it ever did happen, I would love to see more of the interdynamics at the Border camp, stuff that flew totally over Elliot’s head. I’d love to have Golden introduced earlier. I’d love to have the harpies in sooner, but as a sinister presence until the big reveal. And of course, channeling my inner Elliot, I’d love to see the mermaids. Throw the whole budget at mermaids!
Thanks for asking, and dreaming with me. 💜

Hi chaos,
So people on other socials are saying playboyy is camp? I don't quite get that vibe so I'm asking do you? Why?
*cracks neck* okay let's do this; this got wildly long so I'm putting a chunk of it behind a cut b/c unlike some blogs I'm not gonna subject anyone to endless and endless scrolling just b/c I added pictures anyway~~
So people are probably getting this from Den himself:
Tumblr media
I talked about camp an itty bitty bit before, specifically I quoted Susan Sontag who was an American academic, novelist and writer mostly known for her essays. You can read more about her here. Specifically I quoted her essay Notes on Camp:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(source)
I really recommend reading the entire essay, it's a bit dated, but Sontag also makes a point that camp changes with the times as well. This essay was written, after all, in 1964, before Hairspray (1988), Batman (1966), Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), or Mommie Dearest (1981) which are considered camp classics now. However there's a lot of good stuff to learn in her essay and she also names a lot of prominent either queer creators - Oscar Wilde, Jean Cocteau - or prominent figures that the queer community sorta like, claimed - Bette Davis, Greta Garbo.
Camp is a concept, it's not a hard and fast rule. Not every film or TV show that gets claimed as camp is intended to be camp - Showgirls and Mommie Dearest are sincere in their intentions, they are not trying to be camp at all, but through sheer accidental glory they stumbled right into the camp valley. Similarly with a film I recently learned about via this amazing essay, Valley of the Dolls which was also sincere in it's depiction of drugs, sex, and show business but just ended up...campy (this is part 2 which is my favorite part but part 1 is great too):
youtube
I would also recommend this video by Kennie JD on Showgirls and you get a modern idea of how a non-film critic sees the camp in Showgirls even tho it's not intended as camp (Paul Verhoeven is never going for camp in his films he's often going for satire and yet, alas lol):
youtube
Okay so this is getting away from me, the question was "Is Playboyy Camp?"
I would argue, yes but definition but it's more classic definition rather than what people probably associate with "camp" in the modern day. Which is "bad" films, or so-bad-they're-good films, or drag queens - would love to see Zouey in full drag actually - but Rocky Horror isn't a "bad" film, heck Showgirls isn't a "bad" film, neither is But I'm a Cheerleader or Jawbreakers, or many other camp classics. Some are "bad" in that they didn't achieve their intentions - again Mommie Dearest is a great, if unfortunate, example of this actually - but films that intentionally try to be camp tend to fail, like Cat and the Hat starring Jim Carrey. They're to fake, they try to hard.
As Sontag said, camp is both sincere and pure and it is also abstract and highlights aesthetic first and foremost.
Showgirls grabbed people in part b/c it's so so so very over the top; from the acting yes but also the costuming and set design. But I'm a Cheerleader had a way smaller budget, but it's very aesthetics focused:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've seen people say that Playboyy looks "fake" or "artificial" but so does But I'm a Cheerleader. However artificial is the wrong word, imo, to use here; rather both are camp and surreal. They're going with surrealistic aesthetics to emphasize the emotions of the characters and also, cause gays like color. We love that shit. It stands out. It's fucking fun, it's campy!
I don't think Playboyy is strictly camp but it does take inspiration from camp - it pushes its priorities of the film making to be about the aesthetics rather than emphasizing reality. It's not uninterested in reality - the discussions of sex work in a amoral way (which sidenote I think is a good thing), of sexual desires, the complexities of relationships and boundaries, the acknowledgement of kink etc - but it's uninterested in presenting the world of the show solely through a "realistic" lens visually.
Fantasy is part of the narrative of Playboyy thus that is reflected in the visuals.
BIAC is part satire, which I wouldn't say Playboyy is, since it's not satirizing anything specific - unlike Lovely Writer attempted and didn't accomplish imo doing well from what I watched - it's clear to me that Den is playing a lot with genre. Now how well him and Cheewin the director are accomplishing this, well that's up to individual interpretation.
I can't force people to like Playboyy as much as me - even tho I'm right - b/c I'm not a weirdo and we all like different shit. I do think that Playboyy is using like, actual cinematography however. Like I see that word thrown around a lot and then people provide really like basic examples. Like I'm so sorry but 2Gether's cinematography is basic at best and boring at worst. Two dudes standing in a badly lit room in a mid-shot does not impressive cinematography make - which is fine because a lot of these shows are made on shoestring budgets.
I don't expect Moonlight level cinematography from gmmtv or MeMindY shows. And Playboyy doesn't have that level either it can't it's clearly also made on a small budget.
That said it IS filmed with purpose, and with a specific visual language. Not every shot is great but I do love the sincerity here, it's using color, lighting, and set design with actual thought to enhance the overall aesthetics of the show, enhance the fantasy at play, the camp.
Camp films aren't inherently "bad" films. They make you laugh, scream, and the best ones, actually do say something or spark discussion. Rocky Horror is meaningful to people, But I'm a Cheerleader means something to people, they're both unashamedly queer films that were both kinda bombs - critically and financially - and then slowly gained a cult following b/c they were way ahead of their times.
I get the feeling if camp applies to Playboyy at all it's in that sense, a series that's being pretty harshly maligned and disregarded critically at the moment, but that actually has a ton to say and may end up gaining a following down the line after it's over.
This was like, wildly long and I apologize lol

a scattered and overall supportive review of percy jackson season 1
let me just say first of all, it's extremely fun to be enthused about a tv show like this again. the adaptation isn't perfect, but it's a lot of fun, and you can tell there's plenty of heart and good intention behind what they're doing. i'm very much enjoying tuning in every couple of episodes and catching up -- and avoiding the relentless commentary of the internet while i do so lol.
but now it's time for MY commentary!! to preface, i was a huge fan of the books when i was younger, am a stalwart long-term advocate of the original five books as some of the best children's lit of our lifetime, but i also enjoyed the films a decade ago for what they were and think people (including cough rick cough) are way too harsh about them. justice for logan lerman. anyway
i'm not going to do like a play-by-play, but in summary, here are my takeaways from the first season -- what i thought worked, what did not, and things i'm optimistic about going into the future seasons.
the good
for an adaptation of the original series (which, to be fair, i have not reread in years), i felt this was honest and faithful. there were tweaks, obviously, but none that took me too out of it or felt irredeemable. there was a lot to like about this show, so i want to start right from the top with my highest highs.
the worldbuilding / production design. i absolutely loved getting to see how they imagined certain iconic characters, locations, and sequences from the books. it was so exciting to get to see camp halfblood for the first time on screen (at least, in this adaption) -- that moment in episode two definitely felt like a turning point where we picked up from the somewhat laggy pilot episode. i especially loved the design of mount olympus, aspects of the underworld (hades and his upside down castle were baller, though how did percy and grover get up there lol; and i absolutely loved the choice for asphodel and the ghosts being rooted like trees, i never would've thought of that myself but it was so chilling and unique... just wish i could see it better through the terrible lighting, but we'll come back to that), and of course, camp. even down to the small details, like the camp beads... it's just very cool to see it come to life.
the casting. i wasn't sure about some of the casting when the news was breaking, but i'm very happy to have been pleasantly surprised all around (and have majorly avoided people bitching about every single thing). there wasn't any role where i felt like someone was horribly miscast, and you could tell that everyone involved really wanted to be there and committed. i thought the casting of the gods was especially inspired at times. some of the highlights for me personally:
adam copeland as ares. i had no idea he was apparently a wrestler turned actor until my sister told me, but i thought he was absolutely spectacular. very charismatic, with just the right amount of cringefail that ares needed. i found him thoroughly enjoyable in all his scenes.
lance reddick as zeus. having just played horizon zero dawn recently, oh my lorde was this an inspired choice. he was absolutely brilliant. i'm so so sad about his passing, i don't know how they're going to recapture his performance, but i have faith now that they'll find a way.
timothy omundson as hephaestus. i love that they took a softer, more mad scientist approach to his role than like ugly basement blacksmith vibes... i just thought it was really refreshing. his scene with annabeth, where we got so much humanity from him in such a short span of time, was one of my favorite scenes of the season.
jason mantzoukas as dionysus. i mean. what else can be said. obvious choice, but he was so fun lol. i hope they give him more to do next season.
other standouts beyond the main youth cast for me were jay duplass as hades (his brief appearance in 107 was thoroughly enjoyable) and dior goodjohn as clarisse (she was by far the acting standout of the first couple episodes to me). also very happy to see jessica kennedy parker and sinclair from the 100 get work, lol.
walker as percy jackson. it was really wonderful watching walker grow as an actor even just through the first eight episodes. the difference from 101 to 108 is almost night and day. you can tell how much he cares about the project and percy as a character, and he upped his game with every episode. i cannot wait to see what he turns out in the coming seasons. to be fair, i thought all of the youth cast did a decent job, and i'm giving them a lot of leeway and room to grow since they are literally child actors -- it takes time to hone your craft, and im optimistic they're all going to do a great job as the series goes on. but walker was, definitively and thankfully as the protagonist, the standout.
charlie bushnell as luke. i was so excited when i heard he got cast because i loved him in diary of a future president, and he did not disappoint. i kind of wish he had more to do, but all of that was forgiven in the finale when he had his final confrontation with percy. oh, the acting popped off then -- i can't wait for him to get to chew up the scenery more in the coming seasons.
grover and percy's friendship. it was so sweet to see this come alive, and i thought walker and aryan had excellent natural chemistry together. they were so endearing, and i really believed their friendship basically from the start (them swapping their sandwich fillings is a tiny detail from the pilot that has stuck with me since; i just loved that choice so much). they definitely provided a lot of my favorite moments in the season, and i think evoked the most genuine "aw wow" moments from me.
percy's relationship with sally. since sally was, understandably, absent from the original novel, it was awesome to get the flashbacks here that allowed us to more deeply understand their bond. i thought walker and virginia did a great job with this, and the young actor who played little percy also did a surprisingly great job (he was actually one of the stronger youth actors in the pilot imo lol). you totally understood why percy was doing everything he was, because that mother-son bond felt believable. big shout-out to the absolutely baller line "i am sally jackson's son." one of the first writing moments where i was like oh snap!
the music. a good score really can't be understated, and this one did not disappoint. did just what it needed to do. i also loved the closing title sequence and the art direction there with the epic music -- just such a nice touch that i'm so glad they included.
some of the writing. i'll get more into some of my qualms with the writing below, but there were definitely some great moments that deserve their flowers. i thought they did a great job weaving in some early themes without being heavy-handed about it (percy having to define who he is for himself, mostly). there were some genuinely funny moments that made me laugh out loud, including "i am impertinent," annabeth's "i'm multitalented," and the entire exchange on the road side when the trio to ares are like no... we're fine... ahaha bye... oh and percy trying to drive the taxi out of the garage at the casino was absolutely hysterical.
pivotal scenes hitting their mark. when the show needed to deliver, i thought they really delivered. i absolutely loved the staging and acting in the final luke and percy confrontation -- the lighting of the fireworks was such a cinematic touch. percy's arrival at olympus and scene with zeus was also a big standout. i loved a lot of the st. louis arch episode, and thought the hephaestus golden chair sequence was really well done. overall, the episodes i thought were strongest were without a doubt 104, 105, and 108.
expansion where expansion was welcome. one of my favorite aspects of the series is how it's giving more nuance to the monsters and "villains" of the books. i loved that we got a little more motivation for alecto beyond evil -- that she clearly wanted to accomplish her own mission and retrieve the helm, whether out of loyalty or fear. i loved how medusa got much more depth and humanity, that we're sort of reexamining the fairness of how myths are told rather than just taking it all at face value. i'm really looking forward to seeing how that continues in the next seasons.
the decent
percy and annabeth. to be fair, i think my issue with this is more on the fan reaction than the show itself. i think the show is doing a decent, if somewhat awkwardly paced job, of building their friendship and offering small little hints of what could blossom in the future in classic youth awkward ways -- unexpected hugs, banter, etc. i think walker and leah are both doing a good job, and i look forward to seeing how it develops. but my god, people on the internet are really jumping the shark so hard here. i can't handle seeing more "uwu percy is in love" posts when it's like. y'all. THEY ARE 12. THEY JUST MET. LET THEM ORGANICALLY BECOME FRIENDS FIRST... i just hope the creators don't feed into that and also jump the shark. like yes, we all know where this is going, but can't we enjoy the actual journey to get there instead of forcing what isn't there yet? in any case, on the positive side, some of the moments between them i really enjoyed: the conversation on the train when grover was asleep, the hephaestus chair sequence, annabeth giving him her camp beads before going to olympus (that was a slay... that was a legendary slow burn start moment worth hyping up), the way percy smiled at her in their last scene... that's the good stuff. let's not rush through what we're getting folks. the water is fine.
lin manuel as hermes. here is the thing. i thought lin did a good job. i thought his casting was apt, and fun, and he did a great balance of hermes charisma and like, a darker edge. it's just... the thing about lin manuel is that he's lin manuel. and this is coming from someone who likes him, but it's like he shows up on screen and i'm just like. hey it's lin manuel. it's a bit of a "takes you out of the moment" stunt casting, but i'm not mad about it. i wouldn't call it a bad thing. hopefully it'll wear off (though i doubt it). i guess i'm just deciding that hermes is just lin manuel, which honestly, would kind of track.
the youth acting. mentioned this above, but again, some of that early delivery was rough. but i am giving a lot of grace, and i think they've already improved plenty in the first eight episodes. i felt the same way about shadowhunters back in the day when i thought kat mcnmara was hard to watch in season 1, but by season 3 she was my absolute favorite cast member and came so far. i have no doubt these kiddos will do the same. so very much looking forward to that.
the not so great
the pacing. this was definitely the weakest part of the story writing wise. it wasn't irredeemable, but it did hinder the first half of the show (which didn't lock in for me until about 104, when the stakes truly shot up at st. louis). and that also affected how dynamics and plot points were able to unravel. the biggest victim of this...
the luke reveal. from the start, i was worried about this. since luke was only really in episode 2, i had doubts about whether the reveal of his betrayal would be at all satisfying or earned. i don't know that i can speak on it for sure, since i knew what was going to happen as someone who read the books, but i still feel we should have gotten more of those luke-and-percy-bonding scenes and convos earlier in the series rather than tacked onto the finale as flashbacks. it worked there, but i think it could've been better. thankfully, all of that didn't hinder the delivery of the finale confrontation, which as i said, was a standout moment for me.
the fight scenes. with rare exception, i was pretty underwhelmed with many of the monster battles and confrontations this season. given that's such a huge gimmick of the novels, i hope they're able to revisit and polish up the pacing of these in the future... i just felt that scenes like the museum clash with dodds were so rushed and anticlimactic. or not even confrontations at all, like the scene with crusty. we got a bit more of this at the back half of the season, in the sword fights with ares and luke, but i wanted more of that epic feeling throughout. i'm hoping it's maybe just a budget concern and that it'll improve in the coming seasons -- especially as the bosses get bigger and the stakes get higher -- but i'm not sure i'm optimistic just yet.
some of the dialogue. it was... wooden, to say the least. i think the worst moments of this were when they were trying to force Kid Bants -- which just felt stilted in the earlier episodes -- and whenever they were explaining greek myths point blank to the audience. there were moments it worked, but many where it didn't, and i hope they flesh out how to better info dump in the future episodes. i didn't mind the change of having percy be more familiar with the myths and thus more aware, but they could afford to finesse how they relay that information to us in the audience without basically reading from wikipedia in percy's voice.
the ugly
oh my god i can't see. i can't SEE. this show went to the teen wolf academy of employing one lightbulb and it's actually criminal. there were so many scenes where i really wanted to see what was happening because the stakes were high or the scenery was so pivotal -- the entry into the underworld for the first time, the vastness of medusa's basement of stone, THE FIELDS OF ASPHODEL -- but the lighting was so god awful i legitimately couldn't see a thing. in asphodel i literally could barely see the trio's expressions, it was that bad / flat. the audience is smart, we understand it's dark out. we can suspend our disbelief so you can add some visibility to this thing. i was turning up my brightness constantly but it wouldn't go any higher. please, disney execs, rick, anyone -- GET ANOTHER LIGHTBULB. i'm losing key immersive aspects of the show to this and it's a bummer. when they were walking through waterland for the first time and annabeth was like "wow can you believe this craftsmanship" i was like i don't know, girl, I CAN'T SEE ANY OF IT. begging on my knees that they fix this next season.
well, that ended up longer than expected, but oh my gods it is so nice to be writing paragraphs about a tv show again. all in all, i'd say 7.5/10 from me in this first season. there's so much to be keen for here, and i'm really happy with how it's going so far.
friends and fellow demigods, what did we all think?

Hawks has the potential to be the greatest kidnapper of all time and he pulled 76 people out of a building while manipulating each feather individually.
There's an anime scene where he dodges bullets and out speeds men with guns. He's faster than Endeavor, Deku, and Bakugo. He's explicitly faster than people with super speed quirks.
This manga loves for people to forget their capabilities for dramatic effect. The story nerfs or buffs people according to whatever the narrative needs at the moment.
For example, Compress was able to marble HIMSELF in the forest camp arc. Later, we see him tear his own body apart to escape his bindings and this ability is nowhere to be found.
Hawks killing Twice was one of the most ridiculous scenes in the manga because he didn't even have to talk to him. He could have kicked this guy's head in and knocked him out before he could react, and been out of there.
We saw him do this to a flasher! It takes Hawks zero effort to knock humans out. He doesn't even have to look at them.
imgur.com/a/9vNxGAn
Twice doesn't have anything that gives him extra durability and he'd go down like anyone else would. Literally the exact same sneak attack Hawks did to him in canon could have been designed to knock him out rather than cut up his muscles so Hawks could insult him, taunt him, and then give the most unconvincing recruitment speech ever.
So the guy intentionally dragged this out for an absurd song and dance to try to half assedly convince him? Why?
Anything he needed to say to Jin could have been done in a cell when Twice woke up again.
Assuming Hawks took Jin down cleanly and abducted him, he may have even been able to come back to try and take out another League member.
Like Dabi. Hawks could do some real damage if he got the drop on him. Or forget Dabi. He could have went after Himiko or Compress and left Dabi to someone who isn't weak against him.
That's the frustrating part of discourse about this.
Everyone just takes the story at face value and ignores what we've seen people do before.
This plan was stupid. Hawks is stupid. The entire situation was contrived. None of it should have happened based on who we know Hawks to be and what he's capable of, but because the author wanted to create a situation in which Hawks killed Twice, it happens this way.
It reminds me of the Zack Snyder Superman movie Man Of Steel where the author wrote Superman into a corner specifically so that he'd need to kill a guy who was about to laser eye beam a family.
So Superman snaps his neck.
He later asked "What else could he have done?"
Well, he could have gouged out his eyes, or broken the lower part of his spine, or repeatedly slammed the guy's head into the ground. He could have choked him until he lost consciousness, or dragged him under water and held him under the surface until he passed out.
All of these are a lot less lethal than snapping a guy's neck and show the character attempting to keep to his no kill policy.
We go from something 100% fatal to something that has the potential to be fatal but could not be. While still allowing him to achieve his objective.
It wraps around to Hawks again. If he was really so worried about Twice's potential danger, why wasn't his first action to chop off the guy's hands?
Overhaul got his arms ripped off and he couldn't use his power. It's known that Twice's power was in is hands.
Maiming someone is bad, but it's not as bad as murder.
This whole thing had the most limp dicked ending ever. The guy murders someone on live TV and no one gives a shit. His wings don't get burned off despite Tokoyami exclaiming that, once again showing that Dabi's not worth shit when it comes to actually killing or harming named characters. And then his character becomes about being Endeavor's hype man. He, a kid who lived with an abusive father, also does not care about his idol being an abuser.
I'm not asking for a conga line of everyone shaming these guys, but at least we could get a scene of them wanting to sit with other hero characters at the cafeteria and then everyone standing up and sitting down at a different table.
Maybe Burnin' tells Endeavor that she and the rest of the sidekicks are quitting after the war is over, because she doesn't even know who her boss is anymore.
This is what you'd see in an episode of Law and Order. Why have events happen if they mean nothing and don't lead to anything?
What's Tokoyami think about this? We don't see it. He still loves Hawks. Would Tokoyami kill a person? The story doesn't care much about Tokoyami, but it would be nice if he and Hawks discussed this.
If he doesn't think Hawks did anything wrong, would have have done the same thing in his shoes?
I feel sorry for anyone who liked Hawks. It must be painful to watch how they massacred your boy.
You covered almost everything i have issues with when it comes to hawks vs twice and the lack of relevant consequences after the first war arc.
All the people arguing that hawks had to kill twice because they can't fathom their fav actually doing something morally reprehensible is already bad enough but it becomes so much worse when, as you said, in one of his first scenes in the manga Hawks knocks a guy unconscious with his wings without even looking at him.
I read the war arc chapters as they came out weekly and when the chapter where hawks killed twice dropped i was obviously devastated and very sad for twice, but i was also so excited for what this would mean for hawks' character in the future cause at the time everyone foolishly believed horikoshi actually had something interesting to say with his character. It's obvious now he didn't.
I said it before but Hawks' story perfectly mirrors mha's story as a whole: it started out posing very interesting questions about the morality of hero society and its insidious inner workings which were covered up by a shining facade of flawlessness, but it ended up abandoning all those questions in favor of a more simplistic, easy and frankly underwhelming conclusion.
I'll never get tired of saying Hawks is a wasted character and most of his fans only like a fanon version of him they've read on ao3 cause they can't stomach the fact that he was robbed of his arc and given a horrible conclusion as endeavors bootlicker.

It ended up being way more intensive than I had planned, but I did finish the writing for the Zelda video.
I managed to grab that James Somerton video he made about queer portrayals in Nintendo before it was privated. I haven't located any evidence suggesting it was plagiarized given the extent he's done it in nearly all his videos but that doesn't mean it hasn't occurred. I'm still trying to search and see if I can find any evidence of plagiarism to credit its proper author(s) if it is in fact stolen. There will be a section discussing the intersection of queerness and race with queer readings of Link and the Gerudo.
That aside, I wanted to share a bit! I picked out paragraphs out of order from how they're actually written, but these are a few of the points in the section about "the natural order of Hyrule."
Both film and TV westerns purport to be based on US history: the past is reframed as a glorious undertaking, the fulfillment of God's wish for his chosen people or as a rescue mission designed to rescue the pitiful other from himself or from some demonic other. Such fantasies serve to justify and legitimize colonial norms and practices. Stam and Spence explain that the colonial enterprise was often presented as a philanthropic "civilizing mission," reframing the colonial presence as a humanitarian intervention rather than an invasion. - Native Americans on Network TV : Stereotypes, Myths, and the 'Good Indian'
In Zelda Lore, it's said according to an entry in Hyrule Historia that "Hylians possessed a special power: it was said that their long ears allowed them to hear the voices of the gods." there's an inherent birth connection to the gods and to divinity in this series.
The best examples of community portrayal in the game exist when you remove Link from the equation. There are numerous instances of the different tribes providing support to one another--the Gerudo providing aid to refugees of Lurelin village, people providing resources to the Rito in their time of crisis, and the construction town helping in the rebuilding effort.
But a central part of what separates gaming from other types of media like books and TV is that you're not just a reader or viewer, but a player--you're asked to actively take part in the narrative and influence it yourself.
That community commentary also conflicts with the desire to treat Link as a demigod with the most major figures in the story continually sacrificing their autonomy and personhood to become resources that Link is ultimately to wield. Rauru gifts Link with some of his powers to save him from the Gloom. Mineru becomes little more than a rock 'em sock 'em robot for Link to pilot with little to no actual concern for her as a person.
Zelda is given the illusion of having agency in this story with how she orchestrates the conditions for Link to be able to defeat Ganon, but ultimately that doesn't come from her utilizing her research skills or building off the things her family provided her. Rauru even says he believes Zelda arrived to them for a reason, and based on what happens, it was ultimately so she could sacrifice herself yet again.
I'm not in the camp of people who wanted to see Zelda permanently stay a dragon at the end, I just want Zelda to not continually be sidelined in a series that constantly asks to sacrifice herself so she can't be an active part of the story.
The land and society once owned by gods must be restored and brought to its former glory as it is fated to be led by the divinely chosen Hylians. To that end, to defeat the evil and violent Middle Easterner who has defied the natural order of Hyrule, everyone must sacrifice themselves for Link to become the divine governor of power.
(This portion is part of the conclusion)
In thinking over what to write for this last portion, I came away feeling Nintendo's patterns here are a good example of why we should heavily value and take seriously the talents of artists and character designers.
It's important because art is so valuable in how it shapes the implications of the story, intentional or not.
I'm not here to convince you to boycott or stop playing Zelda because the issue goes beyond the scope of this individual franchise. What I ask more than anything is to see the people being propagandized as human and to equip yourself with the tools to better detect and resist the narratives both in fiction and non-fictional media.

LIN (Total Drama/Disventure Camp OC)
Tumblr media
Lin
"The Meek Cat Girl”
Lin is a shy, timid, and closed off teenager constantly referred to by her peers as 'The Cat Girl' because of her quirks and appearance. She's referred to by her family as 'The House Pet', and the favored her older brother who was much more successful. She made an attempt t boost her confidence with an indie animal business, but because she's easily startled and awkward, it failed and put her family in debt. As a last ditch effort to not have her parents sell her cat to pay that debt, she goes onto a reality show to try and win the money. Even if she has to be the pain magnet 'cat girl who gets scared at everything' on TV.
Design
Lin is a Chinese Canadian. This character is about Dawn’s height. That’s the character I used as the exoskeleton for her outline. But she is scrawnier in the arms and a bit wider in the torso, if it’s even noticeable.
I wanted the look to reflect the personality of the character and get you a good idea of who she is and what her archetype is supposed to be. As good as the reboot is and how I like the mundane looks they have, it’s hard to get a good idea what that casts personalities are with the exception of a handful. (Scary Girl, Axel)
So since this character is a more shy and reserved one, I decided to add a huge turtle neck collar to her jacket that she can use to put over her mouths when she’s nervous or whatever.
And because it’s, well, SUMMER, I made this jacket not only short sleeved but also loose, almost like the fabric is very thin. Then of course it’s easy to put her in shorts and wedges you often see in a summer outfit.
And as you can see in an ALT look, her white ‘sleeves’ are not actually sleeves or attached to her jacket at all. They’re arm bands. For protection. Again, closed off not very confident character.
She also has bracelets in certain colors… 🏳️‍🌈
Not only is the turtle neck way too big, and the ends of the jacket is very loose on her, but as you can see, the belt she’s wearing to keep it on her is also way too big. It’s so big that the other end of the belt is dangling behind her.
Two reasons for these choices:
It’s so that belt end can act as ‘a cat tail’, again, cat girl. It also helps that the buckle is a cats paw and she’s wearing cat earrings.
Its part of a story of her upbringing
These clothes were not originally hers. They’re leftover clothes borrowed from family members. Almost all her family members are huge in size, some flat out obese, others like her brother just being that muscular. Lin didn’t follow footsteps because she is squeamish with certain foods, more on this later.
Then there’s her hair and eyes.
From the start I knew I wanted to give her strawberry blonde hair and yellow eyes.
Yellow eyes are very prominent with cats. It also adds as a visual gag when sometimes, whether it’s from anger, intense distress, or in dark spaces, her irises take over her eye sclera and where her irises once were get replaced by her pupils.
Again, this is both a visual gag, but also a story reason why this is a thing with her.
A form of grounding in their house is getting locked in a basement, where it’s pitch black down there. Lin got locked in there all the time as a result, most of the time because her brother would frame her for things he did. And the parents would instantly believe him. All he had to say was “Lin did it” and that’s enough. So because Lin is down there all the time, she’s good at adjusting her vision in dark places. It’s not ‘night vision’, more so it’s her being able to navigate in the dark very well. (Challenge Advantage)
As for the hair, I think what sticks out the most is the ‘cat ears’.
The easy route would to just give her a cat ear headband. But not only did I think that was goofy, but it also leaned more to Pahketiew Island territory. So instead I had the cat ears be gelled up hair.
It 1) Gives a good silhouette for her. 2) Leans into the cat girl motif without being goofy. And 3) Again, a visual gag and an in story reason for it.
You may notice that in her swimsuit look, she’s a ‘wet cat’ in that look. This is a running gag that she gets wet more than any other character. (She’s not afraid of water, it’s just annoying.) And yet her cat ear hair gel does not get washed out at all. If anything, they look more obvious.
That hair gel does not come out. It’s permanent. When she was five and her brother was still sharing a bath with her, he got his hands on their parents hair gel, being a dumb kid and not knowing it was permanent, and messed with Lin’s hair without consent. So parts of her hair became stuck like that for the rest of her life. She decided to call them cat ears as a way to find solitude in that look.
The hair is strawberry blonde so she can resemble an orange cat.
I was gonna do her outfit black, but then she looked like a Halloween Character. So instead I went with a navy blue.
She also as a ‘commando Zoey’ look, even if it’s obviously not called that. I more so call it ‘Feral Cat’. No more sweet cute cat girl. She both takes her jacket off, showing she’s wearing a white camisole underneath and her white arm bands are indeed arm bands, and ties her hair up. She also does the same dirt on the face thing that Zoey did, but the way she does it makes it look like cat whiskers instead.
Personality
As the label suggests, Lin is a cat girl.
She doesn’t think she’s an actual cat or anything, (that’d be Pahketiew Island territory) she knows she’s a human, but she does have most of her quirks and personality resemble that of a cat.
First, she’s an animal person. She’s very knowledgeable about animals, so she’d absolutely shine in an animal-based challenge. She has studied vet medics, so she can also perform first aid when needed, especially with animals she doesn’t like hurting. She will only hurt an animal if they’re actively physically hurting her first.
Half the time it’s dogs that do that. Animals in the dog species really have something against her and she doesn’t know why. She’s more likely to get mauled by a dog than a bear.
She’s especially good with cats. She has a cat at home that is her best friend. It’s specifically ‘her’ pet. Her family hates the pet.
Lin has a dream of becoming a vet. A career her family wasn’t gonna pay for. Which was why she tried her indie project to get herself known. But she failed it because she made a stuttering fool of herself.
Because of Lin’s rather unfortunate upbringing, she’s a very timid and shy girl. She can be a kind and sweet friend when you’re nice to her, but there’s pretty little people who are nice to her. She can get angry out of self defense, but it depends on the person if that makes them stop.
So she prefers to stay closed off from the rest of her peers and rely on herself. She isn’t good with talking to people anyway, unless it’s about animals, as in a conversation, she gets nervous to speak, is the one often to make awkward comments, and make a stuttering fool of herself.
She thinks everyone is out to get her. Unless you prove you’re not.
She’s a loner as a result and prefers to keep to and rely on herself. She’s a very sweet kind and smart girl, but it takes a bit to see that through all the cat quirks.
It’s not just the appearance.
She’s really good at navigating in the dark (even if it’s not night vision).
Shes flexible and good at gymnastics (she took gymnastics lessons as a kid, but was forced to quit when her brother started taking debate).
She has a bad habit of always landing on her feet (gag).
She purrs when treated with affection, especially by someone she likes.
She hisses at people she doesn’t want around her.
She outright BITES people who try to hurt her.
Wet Cat. She gets soaked way more often than the others.
Scaredy Cat. She jumps and gets startled by pretty much everything. It’s quite easy to pull pranks on her and get a scared reaction.
Feral Cat. She can get mad out of self defense, and tries to play ‘the feral cat’ when she’s had enough.
But she’s not afraid of water, or dogs, they’re just annoying obstacles to her. Her actual phobia is being force fed. And eating gross stuff. She’s a sensitive eater with a very weak stomach. So Chef’s cooking would do her absolutely zero favors. (It’s also a good way of breaking her, whether that’s getting her to cost the team a challenge and get them to vote her off, or to absolutely fail first if it’s a merge challenge. Unless there was character development involved that would let her suck it up.)
She also does NOT say ~Nyah~. She only says it when she’s trying to tell people she doesn’t say it.
…that doesn’t count, right?
She has no human friends. Her only friend is her cat. She exists in her household as ‘The House Pet’, which is what her parents call her. Her parents clearly favor her older brother, an aspiring lawyer, who is much more successful in the economy and making them money. It’s not even subtle with their favoritism. “I don’t have a favorite kid but if I did-“
It doesn’t help that her brother hates her. He’s bullied her all her life and made the parents believe she was far inferior to him. Torment. Pranks. Personal exposure. Laughs at her expense. Even blaming his own wrongdoings on her so she gets punished instead of him. He comes off as a perfect kid, while she comes off as the dumb cat who can’t grow out of that furry look. Nobody wants a furry for a child, right?
Obviously that did a number on her self esteem and is why she acts the way she does.
That’s why her attempt at her indie animal business was the one time she tried to break out of her shell and try something that’d make her important.
But it blew up in her face because of her own flaws. And it put her family in debt.
Her family was obviously FURIOUS at her for the stunt and were ready to sell her cat, her only friend, if she didn’t find another way to get money and pay off that debt.
So that’s where reality TV comes in.
It’s either do that and try to win the money, or she loses her cat and goes back to a family that is so angry at her that they’d never forget her stunt.
So she goes for the show.
And of course they accept her because she’s be a cute pain magnet contestant. “Aw, look at this cute cat girl, she’ll jump and squirm and scream at anything! She can’t even form proper sentences in front of a camera, it’ll get great views!”
Normally she would never do this because it’s a lot of backstabbing people and bullies, and forcing her to do stuff she really doesn’t want to. But she does it anyway because she has to not only save her cat, but also get a second chance at boosting her self confidence and making something out of herself.
Lin is designed to be any sort of boot. Pre-Merge boot or Post-Merge boot. (Or even a finalist if you really want to push that narrative.) As a Pre-Merge boot she could be a gimmick character and a pain magnet character as the butt of most cat jokes. As a Post-Merge boot, while that still being true, she could get character development where she becomes more confident in her abilities, standing up for herself, and doing extreme things. Maybe even meeting some good hearted people on the show that love and care for her unlike her family, not as a cute cat girl, but as a person. Then as a finalist, well, she just succeeds at her goal and motivation by getting a shot at the money and saving her cat and proving she’s not a pushover. She could be any of these.
As for if she’s a Total Drama or a Disventure Camp OC, she could honestly be either.

*Lin backs up, adjusts her jacket, and waves hi with nervous laughter*
“Um… hi. My name is Cat-Lin, I mean, Kaitlin. Kaitlin Nekos. Uh-but I prefer to be called Lin. Now, why should you accept me for your show…? Well, I’m an aspiring vet. I have some skill up my sleeve, not that I’m trying to brag. And I may not be as good at talking as I am to animals, but-“
*Cat meows. Lin picks up the cat to show to the camera*
“This is Dumpling. I’m doing this so my parents don’t sell her… but forget the scandal I did, if you’re aware of that or not forget I said anything, if you pick me I swear to try and do my best to be entertaining, well meaning, and courageous-“

Thank you for the asks pookie! I completely forgot to answer this, so sorry again for the very late response!
🍓 (strawberry) - Does your oc believe in anything? Are they superstitious? Religious? Atheistic? Has anything in their past made them this way?
Oz knows there’s something out there, some sort of God or Jesus or Zeus or some shit like that. He was on the brink of death and miraculously made it out alive so many times he figured there’s gotta be something helping him out. The amount of deep-seeded wartime nostal- no, trauma, makes him skeptical of any ‘divine good’. In Oz’s mind, if God was all good, the nukes wouldn’t have gone off, there would be no war, and his daughter wouldn’t be crippled.
Annika is completely atheistic. Quite similar to Oz in her beliefs, she’d think that she would be dead if God existed, especially considering the shit she’s done. She thinks the idea of superstitions are stupid.
Abbey is a different story from both of them. Due to the the ‘cult’, she’s terrified of religion and has the deep fear that maybe they were right about everything, and she’d end up going to hell. Often, she’ll find herself doing things shutting down the TV, not listening to music, and punishing herself when she goes against a bullshit doctrine or even disobeys her adoptive father.
🍄 (mushroom) - Does your character like being in nature or do they prefer the indoors? Do they have any outdoor hobbies like camping or fishing? If they prefer the indoors, why?
Oz used to love the outdoors. Him, his brothers and sister used to spend hours throwing mud at each other, fishing, climbing trees, and playing near the train tracks. Old Man Clancy had to wrangle the 7 of them up from how much they loved being outside.
His love for the outdoors continued, until the middle of his service as an Army Ranger. Animals creeping out from the trees ain’t mean a thing compared to fully grown men with rifles, children with bombs strapped to their chests, or a Soviet ambush. It gave Oz a sense of danger every time he stepped out into the woods. Every rustle of a leaf made him feel like it’s happening all over again. He would try to take Jenny into the woods, rowing a canoe while she fished. He doesn’t want his fear to get in the way of Jenny being a kid, and she’s already limited in her movements.
(Skipping Annika— no clue what to put for her lmao)
Abbey LOVES being outside, as when she growing up, she wasn’t allowed to leave a certain area. Being in nature makes her feel free and away from the burdens of her everyday life. When Markus Foster took Abbey in, she’d spend hours just walking in circles in his backyard. It wasn’t that adventurous, but it helped Abbey feel safer to do something she ‘wasn’t supposed too’. Even as she’s older, she still spends hours just walking outside if she’s stressed out.
👠 (heels) - How does your oc dress? Are they stylish or casual? Do they keep up with trends or do their own thing? Do they prefer designer clothes or going to the thrift store? Do they have a signature item of clothing?
Oz LIVES in Hawaiian shirts. He’s got about 30 of them in his closet, and for every occasion. Thrifted, designer, doesn’t matter; if it’s got flowers on it (and doesn’t make him look feminine), he’ll purchase it. Besides the shirts, he usually wears cargo or acid washed jean pants, along with a pair of worn out brown boots from when he was a mechanic. I guess his outfit is pretty period typical, but I don’t think he’d follow trends per se, as he only focused on mobility and safety for work.
(Dawg would be wearing a baby blue Hawaiian shirt with pink and red flowers while reliving the most horrific events of his life and adding more of them 💀)
Annika used to be so fucking EXTRA before being betrayed in Turkey. When she didn’t need to hide her identity, she would often wear long dresses (with weapons hidden in the skirt, duh) and have herself done up nicely. Casual wasn’t even in her dictionary until the feds got to her. She find most of her clothes in thrift stores, as she wasn’t about to spend 80 bucks on a dress.
(Girl would be handing out the weapons if they needed to sneak them in. She would make a fucking SCENE whenever anyone accused her of hiding something under the skirt, calling them perverts and embarrassing the people around her into letting her in.)
Abbey, before the nukes hit Europe, would wear typical 70s clothing. Bell bottoms, black pumps, and colorful blouses. When the nukes hit, fabric shortages made designer clothes practically non existent, along with the FBI wanting all agents to be ready for attack, made her change into a more simple style. Black shirts, runnable sneakers/running shoes, still killed the bell bottoms though.
Thank you again for the ask!

In a couple weeks i'm going to be a summer camp counselor for a cabin of teen boys (around 14-15 years old), and i'm on the hunt for some ttrpgs that i could bring to camp and try out with them! ideally something good for hour long pick-up-and-play sessions, more focused on getting into silly shenanigans than deep introspection. so far i've picked out Honey Heist, Galaxy Goons, and To Serve, but i'll take any other suggestions you can offer! tysm!
THEME: Quick Funny Camp Games
Hello friend, I’ve got a few silly games for you but I also included some games that are quick to run that have a little more focus to them in case your campers want to get their teeth into some plot.

Cryptid TV, by yanahn.
A plague of Reality TV stars has descended upon the sleepy town of Mountain Lake ready to hunt down (and capture on camera) anything that looks even remotely like a cryptid - your crew is among them to cause drama, fake hoaxes, and enact sabotage beyond all reckoning.
If the game uses the same rules as Honey Heist, then picking up and playing will be even easier! And Cryptid TV is one of those games. As a reality tv crew invades your hometown, your job is to infiltrate the film crew and sabotage the show - while trying to hide the fact that you’re one of the cryptids they’d want to get on camera! This game is set up for exactly the wacky hi-jinx that you might expect, and I feel like the vibe really goes well with a bunch of campers playing in a cabin somewhere. You should definitely check it out!
1400 Planes, by Unknown Dungeon.
The multiverse roils with boundless existence. For many, the infinite planes of creation drift past at an immeasurable distance, their alien secrets perpetually out of reach. However those who break their mortal shackles and cross that liminal space, wander such exotic spheres on an eternal pilgrimage.
If the group wants to jump into something a little less silly or just wants a chance to feel powerful, the character options in 1400 Planes included Clockforged, Birdfolk, Jotuun, and Merfolk (to name a few). You are hopping through a multiverse, and while the different planes are dangerous, your characters have gear and skills at their behest to help them face danger head-on.
The biggest obstacle that might stand in the way of this and the other 1400 games released by this designer is the dice requirement - 1400 Planes requires at least one d6, one d4, one d8, one d10 and possibly also one d12. If you want a great tactile experience though, the different dice shapes certainly deliver.
Bro Hunters, by The Other Tracy.
Bro. Ghosts, Bro. The stories are true. We've got our gear and we're gonna get famous, Bro.  Bro? Bro.
Ghost stories feel like a great match for camp, so pulling out a quick game of ghost-wrangling or other supernatural tomfoolery just feels right. Bro Hunters has a built-in goofy element in that all of the characters will probably refer to each-other as “bro” - and the game also comes with structured scenes to bring you from point A to point B. This game also gives the players a chance to contribute to the narrative - if their character dies, they will narrate the creepy stuff going on in the house.
What I enjoy about this game is the number of tactile elements. You’ll need something to act as a speaking totem - or Brotem - as well as some tokens to help you change the narrative (also called Bro-kens!). This game is much more free-form and allows the players a greater amount of narrative control than the other items on this list - it's a great introduction to roleplaying if your group is familiar with telling ghost stories together.
Crime Wizards, by pewter bee.
You are the Fox Club, a magical crew of thieves and criminals. Your mission is to take what you want, work with clients to fulfill their needs, and uphold your crew’s reputation. Your leader, Juliet Thrice, is in hiding due to heat from a recent job she conducted, leaving you to act on your own until her return.
Lasers & Feelings is another system with quick character creation and only 2 stats to worry about, although it can be decidedly more serious than Honey Heist. In these kinds of games, you are typically skilled individuals with a job to do, with the challenge of operating without a key figure or resource. You’ll choose a single number and roll a d6 to attempt to roll over or under that number, with an exact roll giving you something special! In Crime Wizards, you’ll be on a fantasy heist - perfect for cool scenes while also providing moments for some fun along the way.

Preliminary Poll
The Riddler
Tumblr media
Submission reason:
He has been massacred in several canons. First, let me tell you about him. What he's meant to be. The Riddler is a silly man, who constantly asks people riddles. Originally, he wore bright green spandex, covered in question marks, and now he usually wears green suits. This will be important later. The Riddler is my favourite fictional character of all time, and I love him. He's like someone who's just really annoying about his special interest. A great example of him being a silly guy is in the 60s TV series. Now, let me talk about my mortal enemy, Tom King. He wrote One Bad Day, and I loathe him. Fortunately, I have never had the displeasure of reading that comic, but its mere existence hurts my soul. It's so edgy. Unbelievably edgy. DC as a whole has become very edgy. I can't describe all of the edginess, but there is one key thing I will put down here. In One Bad Day... he hates riddles. That's right, he made the RIDDLER hate RIDDLES. This is horrible, especially as an autistic person he really feels like representation to me, so to have him hate the riddles is so painful. Additionally, in Tom King's run (but not written by him) there is another comic, Prelude to the Wedding. I am so glad that I've never read it, because it truly is disgusting. In it, the Riddler is an incel. Let me talk about his henchwomen Query and Echo. In the good comics, he is a good boss and friend to them. In Prelude to the Wedding, he just keeps them around for sex. And now, let me talk about another piece of media that I refuse to consume. The Batman (2022) movie. He's edgy, he goes around murdering people, I've heard he doesn't really do proper riddles. And look at his outfit! HE LOOKS LIKE A BINBAG IN A GIMP MASK!! It's KHAKI GREEN! BARELY GREEN AT ALL! Most painful of all is the popularity of him, there's the massive fandom of Danonation (for Paul Dano who plays the "Riddler" in that movie). I'm genuinely scared that in the future he is going to replace the Riddler. For example, look at all the other Lego Riddlers then look at him. https://www.tumblr.com/unrestrainedbalderdash/718908177281941504/just-popping-the-lego-riddlers-here-so-i-can?source=share In case you couldn't tell, it's the second one on that list. And the ones who aren't him are discontinued. I desperately hope that Lego will soon bring in a design that's more like how he should be.
Propaganda:
Sorry this is incoherent, he just means so much to me and I'm very salty. Also Lego Batman was my childhood, which is probably why I much prefer the camp over the edgy.
