jjk having queer-coded villains seems to be an intentional choice. what are your thoughts on this

Honestly, I think the queer themes and characters we've gotten in jjk are pretty great. Yes, some of them are villains and that is a common harmful trope, but first of all it is not just the villains and second you have to look at how their queerness is portrayed and implemented into their characters.

We have characters like Kirara and Hakari and I think you can count Tengen too, who are queer(-coded) and not villains. Their queerness is pretty explicit in case of Kirara and Tengen with Kirara having clearly transitioned and being some flavour of trans and Tengen also openly stating she's lost interest in gender and is if anything a gnc woman. Queerness is also not their entire character, just one minor aspect of it that is honestly not that important. Tengen being responsible for the creation of jujutsu society and Kirara rebelling against the school and then choosing to aid the kids in the Culling Game is much more significant than their gender. Tengen corrects Yuki about being a man and then we move on, it is not actually a big deal. Yuki is more concerned with Tengen's actions than her gender.

The comment from Panda insisting that Kirara is a guy was weird, but it isn't brought up again, everyone just doesn't gender Kirara when seeing them without making a big deal about how "weird" it is for a presumed guy to have boobs like you might've expected in other pieces of media. The implication here I think is just that Panda hasn't seen Kirara in a while nor knows them very well. The comment was unnecessary in my opinion, you could've shown in a better way that Kirara transitioned, but the way it is treated afterwards makes it better. I think it especially helps that we see Hakari so accepting of Kirara, it is something normal and their relationship is loving. Kirara's gender or presumed sex is no issue at all between them and the other characters just roll with it too.

Same could be said for things like Geto and Gojo's relationship for example, the most prominent example of queer-coding in jjk as is also heavily displayed in marketing for season 2 of the anime. Obvious choice, they are by for the most popular ship and tapping into shipping sells. Their the sasunaru of jjk. I don't think you could call it queerbaiting though because contrary to sasunaru you don't have this "jk they both ended up marrying some random women like the heterosexual men they are" and there are literally no confirmed relationships in jjk anywhere except for the people who are married (and those usually don't love each other). stsg have as much ground to stand on as Kirara/Hakari or Muta/Miwa. They are milking that money cow, but with the way it is handled in canon, it doesn't bother me much ignoring their fanbase.

Another aspect we see in stsg that also applies to how we see queerness in some of the villains is that their relationship (of whatever nature that might be) is there to humanize both Gojo and Geto. There is actually some meaning to it, not just shipper bait or an insane villain being gay and that being included as another aspect of him being reproachful like you see with many Disney villains. Geto's bond with Gojo (and his family) is portrayed as the last bits of sanity left in him and also any criticism you'd leverage against that could apply to Gojo as well, a main character.

Similar with the queerness of the other villains. It is either an unimportant detail of their identity or it is actively used to humanize them. Uraume's gender is purposefully unconfirmed, nobody even makes any assumptions and that fact is about as important as their hair colour. It's just part of their identity, nothing more. It is not portrayed as predatory or used for any "trap" jokes. At least not in canon, the fandom is its own beast and I think their behaviour comes from what they are used to seeing in other media not due to anything done in jjk.

Kashimo falls into the same category of unconfirmed gender. Fans and some fantranslators assume Kashimo is a man based on what they looked like in the past, but it is actually never confirmed in the manga. Neither Hakari or anyone else ever genders Kashimo. There being no assumptions made or their possible gender or androgynous appearance discussed. People just roll with it and it isn't made to stand out in the story. I don't think you can even call Kashimo a villain, more like an antagonist similar to Higuruma was one with selfish morality. Their gender or appearance doesn't play into that at all.

With Kenjaku I guess you could see them taking over Kaori as predatory towards Jin, but it is played different than the common tropes. For one, Jin is as it seems aware of the change, just chooses to ignore it. It isn't played as a "man tricked other man into sex" or "man disguised as a woman", in fact the story goes quite out of its way to state that Kenjaku isn't (cis) male actually. Both Wasuke and Jin address Kenjaku as a women, even when they have suspicions. Kaori stays in some form with Kenjaku, she isn't just a cheap disguise and pregnancy overall is an important topic for Kenjaku both in good and bad ways. When Kenjaku says "thank you for getting along with my son" it is the first big step towards giving Kenjaku more depth than just them being a big bad mastermind. Kenjaku cares in some way for their child and doesn't just see him as a test subject. So the time in Kaori's body clearly had value to them as well beyond just getting a vessel for Sukuna. Same goes for their meeting with Takaba for example, which is the biggest example we got so far of Kenjaku being proven to care about other people and gaining depth through it. Their relationship with Tengen could count as well.

So the queer aspects we got of Kenjaku are there, but they aren't shown in canon to be something strange, quite the opposite usually. I think you see it best when you compare Kenjaku to Orochimaru, who clearly, as stated by Gege too, is a big influence for the character. Orochimaru has the body of a woman in the first part of the series, takes over the bodies of children and shows interest in Sasuke that is often seen as gay. Orochimaru is portrayed as predatory particularly towards children/boys, a persistent stereotype of gay and/or effeminate men as well as trans people. When Orochimaru reveals in the fight against Hiruzen that he inhabits the body of a woman, the characters around are disgusted and not only because this means another person's body was violated, the uncertainty of Orochimaru's gender unsettles them. You see the same thing in Boruto. Multiple characters make mean or disgusted comments about Orochimaru because they can't tell their gender and the whole "are you a man or a woman, a father or a mother" gets pushed a lot, often used as a joke. Mitsuki is being supportive and corrects people, but that doesn't stop Orochimaru's gender being brought up almost every time they feature in the series. "omg I can't tell this person's gender this is so weird and creepy" don't you have more pressing concerns like the fetuses swimming in those tanks or the human cloning?

Compared to that, Kenjaku is handled much better. There is no weird fixation on children, they have only taken over adults from what we've seen so far (due to the size of their brain and it being a real organ I think that is even a necessity) and the bodies are also mainly there for practical needs, Kenjaku isn't shown lusting after them no matter the person's gender. Choso goes from assuming Kenjaku is Yuuji's father to calling them a parent. It isn't commented on, we just assume Tengen informed him. Kenjaku being revealed to be Yuuji's mother isn't shocking because "wtf that's a man in a woman's body", it is more so about the implications of them being related. It is also used to show that Kenjaku is actually not a cis man (everyone at that time even doubting Wasuke uses she/her naturally with Kenjaku not objecting to it despite not really pretending to be Kaori) and by being his mother they have a closer personal connection to Yuuji. The fandom usually puts more harmful tropes into this moment than there actually are in the manga. I'm pretty sure Yuuji was more concerned about Kenjaku actually being related to him than Kenjaku being his mother aka exhibiting a gender he might not have expected. The "my father is your mother that's so mind-boggling and weird" is something that only exists in fandom. I don't see a reason why Choso or Yuuji would care and everyone else even less.

Takaba putting Kenjaku in a nurse outfit is also only portrayed as another fun part of their shenanigans, being neither overly sexualized nor seen as off-putting or weird. I think it was actually put there because Gege wanted to emphasize once more that having a female body doesn't unsettle Kenjaku, they see it as normal. It is part of their identity, but that itself isn't the thing being made fun of, it's a joke about sexy nurses that's detrimental to Takaba if anything.

In the same way, Kenjaku being pregnant with Tengen isn't made a big deal either beyond what it means for the Culling Game or the merger. It isn't a strange pregnant man, just another instance of pregnancy symbolism in this manga where cursed wombs are quite a common thing. And Kenjaku's whole deal is motherhood, birth and pregnancy down to the choice of their name, which is derived from an ambiguously gendered or Virgin Mary-adjacent bodhisattva. These pregnancy themes are shown as both a good thing and a bad thing depending on the context and not on principle as disgusting or bad. Kenjaku's gender fluidity has thematic relevance, but it isn't mocked or portrayed as bad by itself.

Beyond Uraume, Kenjaku and maybe Geto depending on how you look at it, I don't think there are any other queer-coded villains? Mahito was a high school girl for a juju sanpo, but that episode was more wholesome if anything and I think it was just there to show his fluidity in sex and gender. Once again not mocked or brought up as a reason for why he's evil (she isn't even that evil in that high school AU).

So yeah, I don't see a problem here, I actually wish more mangas or animes would portray queer characters this way. Make sure villains aren't the only queer characters, don't make queerness their entire character trait and treat the characters with respect.

a (not) little rant about total drama’s portrayal of dissociative identity disorder in ROTI and AS

a few little tidbits before we get into the juice…

-i don’t have DID ! i have a dissociation disorder and i’ve done a lot of research on DID, but that obviously doesn’t mean i know as much as someone in a system would. if i make any mistakes or you want to add/correct anything, please do !

-since there isn’t an official name for the system as a whole, i’m gonna use “mike system” to refer to mike, chester, svetlana, vito, manitoba, and mal as a system

-before anyone says it, i know it’s “just a kids’ show” but it’s a kids’ show i’m insane and not normal about. so i’m very passionate about this. also kids’ shows should still be normal about mental illnesses/disabilities so idc

alright stinkers… let’s get into it

ok ! mike systems DID in ROTI isn’t GOOD representation but it isn’t like. the worst out there compared to some other media. some huge positives are the way the alters have actual triggers, and that everyone in the system IS portrayed as their own person, not just an extension or part of mike. i interpret the “gasp” the body does with switches as a stand in for dissociation (since they couldn’t really have him just sit there and stare into space bc of plot/time reasons) and it’s very easy to assume the role of everyone in the system from their personalities and triggers. the best example of this to me is vito ! vito is a “tough guy” who’s triggered to front by his shirt coming off, it’s easy to put the pieces together and assume his role is a protector who formed due to sexual abuse.

obviously, the use of the outdated term multiple personality disorder, the very quick switches, the fact the writers obviously did not actually research DID and just wanted a silly crazy character, and probably more i’m forgetting rn, are NOT issues to just ignore because of the good stuff. it’s definitely NOT good or super accurate representation by any means, but i don’t think it’s exactly super bad either. it’s iffy but has redeeming qualities to it.

another plus about mike system in ROTI, even though this isn’t really part of the portrayal of DID as a disorder, is that mike has a love interest that isn’t written as a joke. i feel like having mike in a romantic relationship is a BIG positive representation wise. it’s really important to me that even though zoey is confused and weirded out when she didn’t know what was going on, once she found out mike was part of a system she became more understanding and didn’t give up on him. being part of a system doesn’t mean you can’t have a partner, friends, etc and mike being in a wholesome healthy relationship is a nice breath of fresh air compared to other media portraying DID.

NOW. LETS ADDRESS MAL AND ALL STARS. GOOD LORD.

all stars has an issue with watering down characters and making poor plot/character choices in general, and in my opinion it’s the worst with mike system. ROTI had questionable at times but ok DID rep with mike system, which is why it’s so disappointing that AS took the “evil alter” route and whatever the hell the button thing was… bc they were SO close with having ok representation and then they threw it all away for an overdone and harmful stereotype. mike system in ROTI is a MASTERPIECE compared to whatever the hell was going on in AS.

even when you take into account that in a real life system, mal is most similar to the role of a persecutor (an alter who sabotages the body’s relationships and causes harm to the body/other alters as a way to “protect” everyone in their eyes (oops ! i was wrong. a persecutor isn’t always a protector, however they can take the role of a persecutor and protector which is where i got confused. mal is a both a persecutor and protector to me)) which makes SOME of his actions explainable TO AN EXTENT, it’s clear the writers didn’t have that intent and just wanted a spooky evil alter, which is really disappointing. along with the button issue, which is just…. so insane….

i choose to believe for my own sanity that the button was sort of an emergency temporary dormancy button and that chester fr just lied/didn’t know and made something up. but that obviously isn’t canon, and IN CANON the body’s trauma and serious disorder was literally gone because of the PRESS OF A BUTTON and it is absolutely ridiculous. and it’s portrayed as a GOOD THING.

systems are systems because it is the only way the body and brain can maintain stability and live after serious repeated trauma. in a real situation with a system, if there was somehow a way to get rid of alters in literal seconds, the consequences would be ABSOLUTELY DISASTROUS and unstable. obviously, integration and dormancy CAN be a good thing depending on the system, but it is a LOOONG and complicated process and watering it down to the press of a button in your brain is so inappropriate and insensitive. literally why did they do that. it’s just so disappointing to go from what mike system was in roti to what they became in all stars.

i think im most proud of “dine & dash” which im aware probably no-one has read, but getting chris o’doyle’s sassy little dialogue down was like taming a wild beast,,, otherwise, considering my more well-known work, i rly liked writing “honey, i’m home”. i go crazy for the unhinged readers (if u couldnt alrdy tell lmaooo) and seeing jackson get messed with like that was a real treat.

i seriously just recommend anything by @mypoisonedvine,,, they’re literally genius & are the reason i started writing for cillian:)!! other mentions include kitten fics by @pictureinme and, a personal fave, @floralcyanidee’s jackson rippner mile-high club fic!!! these writers are all incredibly talented and im just blown away at their work every single time🫶

my thirst is such a big motivator for writing LMAO😭i wrote “guinea pig” ‘cus i wanted to absolute wreckkk jonathan crane and have him be a sub, and i got a 6.8k words long fic out of said thirst! music & book quotes motivate me a lot too— i spend sm time digging thru my pinterest for a good quote for the beginning of my fic its actually insane☠️and yes,,, im ashamed to say ive abandoned fics numerous times,,, but thats because they were series’, not oneshots. i get bored of series’ pretty quickly, ‘cause i feel kind of trapped by the initial dynamic or mood set in the first chapter. with oneshots, its like writing one long chapter of this trope and this kink or whatever and then its done, and i dont have to exhaust myself going back to tropes or kinks or storylines ive already done.

i think reading made me a better writer. expanding my vocabulary through the words of others was a biggie; seeing something be described in a certain way in someones story had me thinking of out-of-the-box ways to describe another thing (that doesn’t make much sense but lets pretend it does😭). i have many, many doubts about my work, like constantly, but i usually just suck it up. i sound like an attention whore but seeing the reposts & comments & tags on my other work reminds me people like what i’ve written before and certain people will enjoy what ive written now, so i should just finish my work for them. i also take like 100 years rereading my stuff until i think its good enough lmao,,,

ive kinda watched his whole roster of films (atleast ones i could actually find on the internet and not gone missing as a lost piece of media lmao) and i could probably write for any cillian character given i had a good idea and proper motivation. writing for certain characters is definitely harder for me to do though, so its likely i wont write for them/will take a long time to do so. an example is lenny miller— anna was such an insufferable movie to me, and lenny’s screentime wasn’t long at all, atleast not long enough for me to properly grasp his character. he just felt like a horny hardass fbi goof the whole time i could not take his 5’7 ass seriously😭cillian is smexy as hell in anna tho, so we’ll see😈another would probably be robert capa from sunshine,,, hes beautiful and deliciously musty in that but the whole spaceship setting kinda freaks me out (considering i know 0 zilch nada about space, spaceships, or anything of the sort, so it’d definitely be inaccurate). an au with him id definitely do, though! I’m going insane over here. Ok. Strap in. I’ve got a lot to say.

I’ve already made a couple posts about this but the thoughts are running rampant in here and I think I’ve got some more in depth topics I want to get into this time.

(really long post its like 1.5k words so dont click on it if u dont wanna scroll thru all that LOL)

First off, we’ve got the voting system. I have… a lot of gripes about the voting system. I’ll preface this statement with maybe I’m wrong, because I haven’t spent a lot of time interacting with the fandom, but it seems like a lot of people are taking the voting system at face value. The premise is simple, after all. Examine the prisoner, assess their crime, and decide whether you think it was justifiable, right? But there’s a twist, obviously. Your verdicts have a direct impact on the prisoners. And you are speaking through the audience surrogate, the warden at Milgram prison, Es. Es is very interesting to me. Despite being a clear self insert, they absolutely exhibit personality of their own, and thought processes and decisions that aren’t influenced by the audience at all. A perfect unreliable narrator. They aren’t a character at first as much as a lens to see the prison through. From the very beginning, they insist on the same thing: job first, questions later. They’re the warden after all. No time to think about the prison. Now I haven’t read the light novel so I’m sure I could go more in depth on my thoughts on the prison if I had read it, but regardless of that, it’s painfully clear how suspicious the whole situation is. However, the way it’s framed almost makes the prison itself, the warden, and Jackalope fade into the background. It’s kind of brilliant actually. Anyway, you’re voting through Es. But who says Es has the right to pass judgement? Look. No one knows what Milgram is. What their ulterior motives are. What’s ultimately going to happen at the end of the project. According to the light novel, it's happened before, so again, I’m perhaps not the most knowledgeable about this part. But why does Milgram get to decide what to do with the prisoners? It feels awfully hypocritical and potentially dangerous. But the whole project is set up so you have no other choice than to vote. It’s fascinating. You’re led towards the conclusion that Milgram wants you to reach. And your immediate thought is NOT to question it, because it’s a piece of media. Why would it lie?

Alright, bear with me for a minute. You know the original milgram experiment? The one the whole thing is supposedly based on? It's about obedience to authority. Listen to me. I am shaking you guys by the shoulders. It’s about obedience to authority. DOESN’T THAT SOUND LIKE WHAT I WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT. They had people administer shocks to “test participants”. The shocks got higher and higher till near fatal levels. The test participants weren’t actually real, but they found that “every participant [went] up to 300 volts, and 65% [went] up to the full 450 volts.” (Milgram experiment, Wikipedia). The whole video series is like this experiment. I don’t know. You get it. You get the connection. I don’t know how much better I can explain this. You can imagine me jumping up and down and flapping my hands.

Listen to me. If you aren’t looking at it from a meta perspective that’s fine. I get it. Most media I like I just passively engage with. Usually that’s more fun for me. But frankly with Milgram I feel as if not looking at it from a meta perspective makes you just another test participant. Another shock administrator. Another cog in the machine. I see people talk about Milgram’s bad writing sometimes, and, you know, fair. There are subjects not handled with the care they need. I’m not claiming that Milgram is perfect. But I haven’t seen anyone talk about how fucking cool this is. They’ve taken the art form and made it into a mechanism. I think it’s kind of brilliant.

Anyway, essentially what I’m trying to say with perhaps an excessive amount of words is that I don’t think we have the right to pass judgement on the prisoners. From a meta perspective, of course.

Apologies in advance for another interjection. This part is perhaps less relevant to the rest of the post, but it’s so cool that I kinda wanna skim over it anyway. You can skip this part if it's getting too long for you, especially since I already kind of touched on it up there. Es as not only an audience surrogate but ALSO as their own character makes them so interesting. I personally actually hated them for a little while after watching some of the voice dramas. Because they act cruel. And make bad decisions. And say insensitive things. And some of that is seeping in from the audience, but even more interesting to me is that a lot of it is just a result of their environment. They’re harsh and defensive and seem very convinced in their own righteousness, and they come off as a total asshole about it sometimes. But think about it. They’ve woken up in this prison. Fucking insane. But instead of freaking out about it, they begin to cling to their newfound authority. I mean, it’s the most rational thing to do. Like, it’s not a normal thing to do, but it’s rational. It’s easy to make yourself forget about everything else when you fixate on a certain point, so that’s what they do. They don’t seem to think there’s any way out of this besides becoming a willing participant, so they lean real hard into the whole “warden” thing. They’re just as trapped as the prisoners are. I believe there’s an empty cell in the prison. Probably Es’s; It’s not a hard conclusion to come to. Milgram has happened before and my guess is that the prisoners are picked more or less by chance. This has very interesting implications. Either Es is a totally random person, or they’re just like the other prisoners, having taken a life. This would make sense as to why they needed to have their memories erased. This makes the whole thing just that much more hypocritical. But I digress.

And so now we come to my second point. Or maybe third on account of the tangents. The parallels with the other prisoners. Specifically number 03, Fuuta. Fuuta is a really good example of taking things out of proportion. His crime is simple: something along the lines of cyberbullying someone into commiting suicide. So like, yes. Objectively? Shitty. Shitty move. He’s not a great person. 20 year old terminally online gamer. Many people off the bat are not going to like him, and therefore probably vote him guilty. But put that into scale: he did not actively kill the person, nor was his intention to cause death. Which is not to say he wasn’t in the wrong. But consider it; we’ve got this weird suspicious prison complex. And we’ve got some loser online. And then there’s the immediate consequence. Now we didn’t know Kotoko was going to go crazy, but regardless of that, that was the consequence of us voting Fuuta guilty. Now he’s literally missing an eye for the crime of… being mean online. So clearly some people started to think about this (hence his innocent vote in trial 2). He’s a crack in the facade, or something of the sort. Apply pressure, dig a little deeper, and it starts looking like, well, the stuff I’ve already said.

But more than that is the realization that Fuuta really has just been taken and put into this prison. He’s a normal person, who has behaved in a less than ideal way, but still a normal person, put into this absurd situation. And you know who else is like that? Well, everybody, but specifically Es. I genuinely do not think there will be a happy ending for anyone unless Es begins to realize this. Which means the audience beginning to realize this. The “innocent” and “guilty” votes don’t really mean anything. Or, they do, because they’ve been assigned value, but the person assigning value to them is, once again, Milgram. Or Jackalope, I suppose, assuming he is the guy behind the whole thing. Maybe I’m preaching to the choir. Maybe you guys have already considered this. But it’s been bouncing around my head all day and I was going a bit crazy over it and I had to get it out.

TLDR; I think the whole voting system is rigged in the favor of the prison itself rather than the prisoners, I don’t think that, as Es, we get to decide who is and who is not “guilty”, Milgram Project itself seems an awful lot like the experiment(not the content of the media, but the interactivity of it), and Es has probably done something bad in order to be in the prison in the first place. The key takeaway from this is that I’m actually really normal and pumping out 1.5k words in 2 hours because of this media is an average and usual thing to do.

Monkey D. Luffy and Being Aromantic: An Essay Plea

One Piece, in general, is a story about freedom and prioritizing your happiness over societal norms that bounds you in one place. Luffy, the main character, had said multiple times that he only cares abt meat, his freedom, and his friends. The author himself had said that One Piece wont have a romance, that its focus is on the journey of the characters and all that.

But were bot here about One Piece. We are here for Luffy, and so Im here to talk about him and WHY he should win the @aroswagshowdown

First of all, in multiple, spaced out cases, Luffy had not shown any interest in the women and men around him. After seeing Boa Hancock's - said to be the most beautiful woman in their world - gave him no reaction. Oda had never shied away from sexual humour, so the lack of it here is a stark contrast from how he had handled most scenes like this.

Ofcourse, we can look at the Nami Happinness Punch scene and say that maybe hes just attracted to Nami and no one else, as he did had a nosebleed from her. Except that Oda had clarified that this is only becaues Usopp - the one Luffy is closest to age to - is there and he was simply copying the other. I could make a case abt this and amatonormativity, but i wont bc this is already too long for a propaganda.

Secondly: Luffy and friendship. Luffys relations focus heavily in familial ones, being involved in at leats three instances of found family - his brotthers, Shanks, and his crew. If being The Found Family guy isnt aro vibes, i dont know what to tell you mate. Sure ppl who are not aro xan be found family, but well. Are they Monkey 'Adventure Is The Story' D. Luffy?

Lastly. Ive run out of points. Mans aro swag made me realize im aro(ace, but thats another topic). He literally is head enpty only freedom friends and food. There is no space for romance in his brain. He is one of the closest thing we have for aroace representation in popular media.

homestuck as a piece of fiction itself is actually really unique. a lot of it is bloated self congratulatory metawank, sure, but it does that in a really interesting way that is intrinsically tied to the time it was made. I think when you talk about the homestuck fandom you can't really discount the amount of interaction hussie had with their audience. the way the work and the audience interacts is a lot closer to something like homestarrunner than something like harry potter or the avengers.

also i agree with you. maybe one of the first really notable cases of someone making a work like this that Blows Up on the internet, but with such direct two-way interaction between artist and audience. compounded, no less, by the fact that the audience is mostly overzealous teenagers. i think a lot of youtubers have fallen into this same trap and have navigated it with mixed success; if i was Mr. MatPat, for example, and knew that my income depended on making a new lore video for Five Nights at Freddy's each week, I think that I would go batshit insane. He seems to be handling it well? The FNAF guy, Scott something, he's another guy who basically commanded an army of fourteen year olds through his Extremely Popular Hyperfixation Franchise, but he was never particularly online or encouraged that kind of reaction as far as I know. take this whole preceding paragraph with a grain of salt though because i'm really just shooting from the hip here. but the way author-audience interaction can affect a work itself is only more and more relevant of an issue in these increasingly parasocial times, especially as the nature of social media and Content Creation(TM) encourages parasociality and encourages people online to monetize that parasociality

first impression: so, this one's kinda specific, but my first impression of him came from a fanart I saw on here. so really I didn't know much (this was before my hockey era) except, oh, the people here are really into shipping him with some other hockey guy. okay. not like I formed a lasting impression off that, but I did think his outfit was really cool, so you know, there's that. he's the first hockey guy to breach containment for me, I was not really interested at the time (this was not even a year ago 😭) but it's kinda special in that way

impression now: in general, seems like a chill guy. you know I try to perceive the leafs as little as possible but I respect him. also, cool outfits. he slays. good for him. however I DID read a fanfic which I'm pretty sure changed my brain chemistry and which starred him as the protagonist! doesn't change the way I see him, he just exists, doing his thing, except now I'm more aware of the leafs narratives. first impression: generally thought he was kind of bland? I was like. that's just a dude. like he's good at hockey, which is fun, but he seems to have the amount of personality (and structural integrity!) of a piece of wet cardboard. so I elected to ignore him. I didn't know what was to come.

impression now: hoooooooly shit. this man occupies every single one of my thoughts and I don't even remember how it happened. genuinely. something clicked in my brain and suddenly I was obsessed with him. ofc there's something to be said about like, this anxious teen with the weight of the world on his shoulders who grew quite awkwardly into his adult frame, but like, people have already said these things. there's the insane hockey plays, of course he's amazing and all that, but idk, maybe it's the anxiety that touched me? he's so anxious and he's still going and you can tell he worked on it, it's not perfect but it's better than before? like the growth? I don't know. I kinda love him. he's quiet. a little pathetic-looking. I got no explanation for this one

favourite moment: I listened to a podcast and he was saying that he always has to remind leon of just how good he is, and he's taken it upon himself to make leon see it, and you can tell he really does care about it (beyond just the game). and it's a small moment but I'm a big fan of bros supporting bros. keep it up king 👑💪

idea for a story: so I was sorta maybe not quite writing something... which may or may not involve hanahaki disease and mcdrai. and it mostly deals in guilt (that's the good stuff) but it's actually kind of leon draisaitl centric, because he's the one with the disease and he's the one struggling to see that he is loved and he is cared for and he feels guilty for dumping this on connor and it's mostly platonic but also kind of not and well. I have like my own version of hanahaki which I did tell one (1) beloved mutual about but the document has been untouched for exactly a week now and my brain has moved onto other things, so. (if you feel like reading some hanahaki may I recommend this one, it's mceichel, I enjoyed it a lot)

favourite relationship: my most beloved mental illness. mcdrai. (which I found really flavourless like a few weeks back. character growth!) there's something to be said about the our stories are linked and our names are tied together aspect of it, and how they've found each other, and leon would find me even if I was invisible and all that. something about connor always hyping up leon to the media, because he sees so much in him, and he's waiting for other people to see it too, but in the end they never will because connor is right there and connor is the best player in the league and it's always about connor. he'll always overshadow leon by being there. connor can try, he can try to be selfless (and how can you not be when you are this good, haven't you internalised by now that it's no fun if you take the whole stage for yourself?) and maybe he would like a break from the constant attention but he won't get it. something else; they are the centre of the whole oilers team. like, and I'm not an oilers fan but I think I can say this, the team would absolutely collapse without them. no question about it. maybe they would be fine with just one or just the other but they would definitely be missing their other half. (and I could talk about how they are BOTH anxious and they are maybe each other's support, but that's for another day because I don't think people have noticed how anxious leon actually is yet.) …you could say I've had a normal amount of thoughts about these two.

favourite headcanon: I'm electing not to answer this one because as you can see from my mcdrai paragraph there are a lot of things I have extrapolated from bits of interviews, body language and the like, also maybe a bit of projecting in there. let's be honest that I'm pretending to know a man that I don't. I'm not even an oilers fan. this is all headcanon.

Shift Your Spending From Things To Experiences

Stop chasing money. Stop chasing ghosts. I tell people. These shiny things we're inundated with them now. You look on social media, you look on tick tock, there's a guy with a Ferrari and a plane and all these shiny things and if you just give them a couple hundred dollars you can have all that and you know it's but you buy that ticket. You buy that ticket because you can say, oh well, I tried. I signed up for it and I guess it just wasn't in the cards for me and I'm going to go back to living my shitty existence that I'm totally unhappy with and I love this quote that you use. 

Choice is a superpower. Absolutely! Choice is a superpower but moreover you have to go out there and chase your fascination. You have to go out there and chase excellence. You have to be interested in people. You have to be interested in things. You have to go out there and wonder, what's inside. You have to be able to get people to give you what you want and in order to do that, you have to exercise influence. Robert Caldini wrote in his book Influence that there's five elements and we focus on a lot of them. 

On Amazon we teach people how to use social proof, how to use authority, how to use likability, consistency, scarcity, reciprocity. These elements that you can master and then weave through the world and you become the master of your time and ultimately that's what it's about. It doesn't matter how many boats you have, cars you have, all these expensive things you have like, you said some people are going to be very happy chilling out on that fjord and you chill out on that fjord and you know you're relaxed. You got control over your time. 

If that's good enough for you, then you do that. A lot of people don't want more. They want to have more experiences and that's really what money's for. That's what we use it for is to buy experiences. I don't care so much about things. I never did it, doesn't matter to me. I mean you know, yeah, I like my car collections and the houses and all that stuff. It's fun, but at the end of the day what's really meaningful to me is me and my family traveling somewhere and having an experience of another culture and other people, you know. I've spent my life chasing experiences. 

I've been in the jungle and I've slept in the same huts with cannibals and taken ayahuasca and the jungles of amazon before people knew what ayahuasca was, before it became popularized. I've traveled to insane places in southeast Asia. I've been to these places and had these experiences and I'll tell you, those are the things that enriched my life. It's not things. Things get old, like you said, it's that piece of technology, where today you have it, tomorrow the battery dies. You got to toss it out. It's meaningless. Okay, that was fun. First I want to say that this blog doesn't support fake claiming in general, so we're going to take that off the table from the start. We're also not against Fictives from popular sources, and this lends to some of the reasons why.

I don't think it's at all unreasonable to assume many Systems would split Alters from new and popular media. You asked why so many would split when something like FNAF comes out, but it makes sense when you think about it. How many people bought copies of that game? Considering FNAF has been a cultural icon in the gaming sphere for almost eight years now, that means that some of the Systems you're seeing literally grew up with it through their youth/teens. When a new piece of that game series comes out, it would only make sense that those Systems would split new introjects. It's a similar story with DSMP. It's viewed by millions and has been going on for ages, so it makes sense that a number of Systems would have splits from it.

It's also worth remembering that special interests, fixations and obsessions all play into how your System behaves. As a System that happens to also be autistic and ADHD, I can assure you of this fact. When we fixate on something or it becomes our special interest (like some of our novels have), you better believe we're going to split introjects from it.

Also what you said above could be seen as a little offensive to polyfrag Systems like ourselves. Our record for distinct splits in a week is 9. For some people splitting happens very easily, either because their stress levels are too high or because that's simply how their System functions. Polyfrag Systems can experience splits so similar they can be hard to tell apart and they can happen very frequently, so the number of alters someone has or splits isn't much of a factor.

Another thing to keep in mind is that many of the Systems you interact with online are teenagers or young adults. We know this because 'most' of the servers we've ever tried to join from trumagenic systems are 25 and below. This isn't a dismissal of their validity or anything like that. Teenagers are in the most tumultuous time in their lives chemically. All teenagers and people under the age of 25 deal with changing chemicals in their brain at levels they are unaccustomed to. This creates stress by default, which makes splitting much easier to begin with. Often times those teenagers and young adults are still living at home with their abusers, which also predisposes them to splitting.

I suppose what I'm getting at is that who or what someone splits isn't a sign of faking, no matter how many people have that introject or how many they split. We don't get to choose our alters or their sources, so I wouldn't consider these criteria for faking myself.

Edit to add: The term 'insane' happens to be particularly abelist in this conotation and we'd suggest looking into why many people would prefer that term not used in this way.

Hi. Itk here. Believe me, don't, doesn't matter. Thought I'd drop (after you summoned ha) by given the chaos and try to enlighten the ones who choose to believe me, as much as I'm capable of.

The first thing I wanna say is: stop trying to figure out their relationship. You most likely never will. Fans are stuck on both extremes, when the actuality of it is far more in the middle (perhaps even up or down and all around ha). It's complex and strange and not at all "normal" (as normal as they could be, anyways).

It's not as simple as "oh they're just a closeted couple who engage in bearding and have kids and behind closed doors they're just a regular, old married couple and a big, happy rainbow family".

Doesn't sound like itk info, believe me, I get that but observing the fandom I'd say it almost is because most fans simply hang on extreme simplistic ideas of what their relationship is.

Second thing I'd like to say and unfortunately seems like it's not at all obvious but: do not believe anything they share publicly. Not saying they're lying compulsively, but they are public figures and they have a lot at stake to just casually drop the actual truth of any given situation.

Just don't. The same salt you have regarding itks, have towards them. It'd do you some good...Believe me. Unless you are involved in the entertainment or political life, you cannot even begin to fathom what it's really like, the level of manipulation, falsehood and well, overall deviation of it. It's quite disturbing tbh. So just always take whatever's said and shown with a good amount of salt. With public people hardly anything is accidental or casual.

I think the most prominent question now is...Why? Why would they do something like that? Regardless if you have the ingenuity to believe the little scene they made or not...Still, the question lingers.

With my level of "in the knowness" I cannot for sure say the real reason, yet from the pieces I've collected so far, seems to be a multiple gain scheme. It was a high risk, they were well aware, and it paid out in the way they were expecting, minus small bumps here and there. But overall it seemed to have worked in their favor. How in the hell, one would ask?

Believe me, I used my best sneaky capabilities to find out exactly why but they were smart enough to keep this one locked tight, minus a few loose lips. And from those all I've heard was that "whatever the purpose was, it worked out".

As weird as it may sound to the innocent mind, it's actually not at all, given that even leaked nudes are not at all leaked or accidental, and those tend to (at least in the past) get immense amount of backlash. It's not the first time famous folks fake a fight, surely won't be the last.

A lot goes into public image, it's not black and white as "well but it looked bad on Jensen", "it looked bad on the prequel", etc. You'd be surprised as how little this truly matters given the level of manipulation they are able to pull on the public. And well, even with them...It happens all the time. Both made mistakes far worse than just "not telling my bestie about my new project" and fans would eventually let that go and put them back on the pedestal.

So just remember, always: not in the industry? then don't judge anything because you simply do not understand how it works.

Another piece of itk information I can give besides "this was planned and it worked" is: they are fine. From what I've heard they are not fighting over it or going through anything more dramatic than what they usually have been going through ever since they met haha.

So just sit back and chill out. Breathe, read fanfiction and remember that we will never truly get answers, because even what comes out of their mouths are most of the time carefully thought out and directed to have a specific meaning and effect (why do you think Jared mumbles and rambles so much?).

Another interesting piece of itk: you know how they always say they never fight? Even though that sounds insanely hard to believe even if they were just friends because who knows someone for that long and is constantly together and never fights? Unlikely, right? Yes, as obvious as that was. But unfortunately a lot of you seem to believe that, given the level of shock you had for this little twitter feud (as fake as it was). Yeah. They fight. A lot.

They fight as much as individuals in their situation would. Like I said, not at all what most people absentmindedly seem to think it is. They go through a lot. Way more than anyone who isn't in a similar situation would understand. It's messy, although they try their best to make it simpler in the ways they can.

On top of being in a very complex situation, they both have strong personalities and one of them is quite hard to "pin down". So altercations happen a lot, but they know how to deal, and they are exceptionally good at making sure that doesn't interfere in their work (oh well, at least not any work that doesn't benefit from intense emotional exchanges, anyways 😉...chemistry isn't something random, you know? haha).

I find it quite...interesting (to put it nicely) that a lot of hats easily believe they are a couple that lies constantly about almost every aspect of their lives, yet, they cannot believe they would fake a social media narrative. It makes no sense whatsoever.

It'd do you all good to be a little less tendentious and look at them as, you know...Humans? They are not what they seem to be, just as you guys also take in different versions of yourselves in different situations, they do too. And don't be so hopelessly naive to actually believe they see fans as "hashtag family". This is their work. And as grateful as they are for supporters, they certainly do not consider them family. To the point of never lying and trusting you with their life.

I'm sure they love their fans, but come on, saying they would never lie because that's mean to fans is just beyond naive. They've been doing it all along and oh, another interesting info? They don't think they're doing anything wrong.

Yeah, sounds weird, you'd think they'd feel guilty. But again, unless you were media trained, you'd never get it.

From years now if there's one consistent info I've gotten was this: they don't feel obligated to tell you anything. They believe they are doing "what they are supposed to do, the right thing for everyone involved".

So. Yeah. And hell, they are right about not being obligated to say anything about anything, I guess.

Well, I hope that was helpful or at least entertaining. It's hard to share info without accidentally making it obvious who I am for the lurkers (sure you guys were well aware that they lurk around the fandom). But it's safe because as long as I don't provide evidence, I'm fine. Just walking a thin line between sharing and not sharing something too specific that would be easy fir them to know who has that info and although they can't do anything against itks, they can manage to cut us off somehow and I enjoy having access lol, so that'd be a bummer.

I was listening to the heart wants what it wants by Selena Gomez…and this happened. Literally wrote it in 30 minutes so I may go back and edit later hah. I hope you enjoy! FYI this is not the new fic that I was talking about earlier.

Tonight was just another evening. He was just another guy. You were just another girl. And yet you found yourself doing the same thing you told yourself you wouldn’t do again. Again. To the outside world, Morgan Rielly was the perfect gentleman. The soft sweetheart with the heart of gold, always ready to lend a hand with a genuine smile. And sure, he still was all of that.

But you knew the other side of him too.

The stolen moments at team events with hot slick mouths, hands grasping everywhere they can reach, bitten-off moans barely audible to your ears. You couldn’t imagine a life without these breathless moments, the rushes of passion that left you dizzy, the way a simple look from him could make your breath stutter in your chest. The euphoria was exhilarating, a true addiction, and you could never get enough of his touches.

If only Morgan wanted more.

You didn’t blame him from wanting something with no-strings, not at all. The pressure he was under from the hockey media and fans of Toronto was insane – and most of the time you were more than fine to be that safe place where he could unwind and relax and just let go, for a moment. Sometimes it was even like you weren’t alive until he called, asking if you were free, asking to see you. Every time, you said yes. Sometimes you were genuinely free – sometimes you weren’t. Your friends had given up protesting or even lecturing you, just rolling their eyes when you said you had to leave or that you had plans that night. There wasn’t anything that was going to stop you seeing that sweet man, and you had long stopped listening to their advice.

Yes, you knew it wasn’t healthy. And yes, you knew it wouldn’t last. Couldn’t last. But did that mean you were going to give Morgan up? Absolutely not. Even in your rushed heated moments, those stolen rendezvous that never lasted as long as you would’ve begged for, Morgan was the sweetest man you had ever met. Definitely the most considerate lover, that was for certain. No man had ever taken you to such heights, had you wailing, had you shaking from pleasure. No man had ever left you feeling so complete.

But the one time you had dared to imply you would be interested in something more, Morgan had immediately shut down, his eyes shuttering into a distant expression that you had never seen on him before, and one you never wanted again. So you had quickly made it into a joke, burying your feelings deep deep down. It was so incredibly easy to lose yourself in him, his lips, his hands, his embrace, and there was nothing you were willing to do to lose him. Not if this was the only way you could have him.

Because having this tiny piece of the golden-hearted hockey star was so much better than having nothing at all. He was laughter, and he was light, and he was love, and you had something from him that no-one else had – so that was enough. It had to be enough.

Tonight had started exactly how it always did. You were home alone, relaxing after a long day at work with a glass of wine in hand, when you received a text from Morgan.

There was no hesitation in your reply. It wasn’t even a lie this time – and there was no way you were turning down a chance to see him if he wanted you.

It seemed like only moments before he was in your doorway, but it was enough time for you to slowly finish your wine as you got changed out of sweatpants and into something a little more…enticing. Because even if you knew (and he knew) that you would always say yes to him, it didn’t hurt to remind him exactly what he had.

And Morgan had been very happy to see you, hands going straight to your hips, your arms sliding around his neck. From the hallway, to the corridor, to the bedroom wall, your hands only left his body to help him out of his clothing, his hands clutching at you desperately, lips barely leaving yours. He kept his arms tightly around you as the two of you fell into bed, no distance between your bare bodies, Morgan lips only leaving your neck to groan compliments, beautiful, gorgeous, so good for me, you’re incredible, fuck baby. It was all you could do to cling tightly to him, accepting everything he was willing to give, gasping his name as he gasped yours.

He kissed you slowly after, like he always did, pouring in that affection and fondness that made your heart both sing and ache.

“You’re amazing,” he murmured, kissing you one last time.

You couldn’t stop the whimper that left your lips as he pulled away, sitting upright, those broad shoulders gleaming with sweat.

“You don’t have to go straight away, you know,” you said simply, pulling the sheet up over your chest.

“As much as I am very tempted to stay, I have practice really early tomorrow. You deserve a lie in, not to be woken up by my clumsy ass,” Morgan mused.

You forced yourself to just shrug, and ran your fingers through your hair, the sheets slipping down just enough to be tantalising – Morgan’s eyes followed the movement as he pulled his jeans on, his gaze darkening slightly before he shook himself out of it.

“I guess I’ll see you around?” Morgan said, smiling sweetly down at you, as he pulled on his shirt.

please tell me about your favorite niche evangelion pieces of media. (personally, I think my favorite are the visual novels/dating games. i haven't played them/watched a playthrough yet but i think about them often.)

omg a fellow niche evangelion media enjoyer!! i personally have a deeply held love for all the apocryphal manga like SIRP/campus apocalypse/angelic days (all of which i have read. usually in a fugue state in the middle of the night.) but here is my 4 favourite niche evangelion media

2015 – the last year of ryohji kaji: kaji's journal in the last year of his life, featuring pictures taken by him (excellently edited by ichiro kamei considering the technology of the time), written reports, notes, thoughts and excerpts of poetry in both japanese and purposefully stilted english. i really love kaji as a character, and this book gave such inner depth to a character who prides himself on his overabundance of masks in the series! many casual fans of the series understandably like to call kaji the sanest guy in the show, but this look into his mind goes to show that he really is not much saner than his peers.

episode 26' live action cut: while end of evangelion features live action footage, not many people know that was supposed to be a longer scene which got cut, and which can somewhat easily be found online! here we see asuka, misato and rei, played by their respective seiyuus, going about their normal and banal life without the evas and shinji in it: asuka is in a somewhat toxic relationship with toji, misato is her nostalgic has-been neighbour, and rei is her colleague and senpai, and they get along with relative harmony, none the wiser about the existence of a boy named shinji.

gakuen datenroku, campus apocalypse: one of the many apocryphal manga had to make it onto this list, and my favourite by far is this! it perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the original and makes it all more unhinged and less coherent, all while developing its unique separate lore and making interesting changes to the premise inherent to evangelion. nerv is fronting as a private catholic school, which all the cast attends or teaches at; when a bunch of people mysteriously start turning up dead, shinji is roped into a secret nerv-backed group of teenagers who intend on killing the angels who have possessed their bodies and banish them from this plane of existence. it's fun, it's dramatic, it has crazy plot twists and light ship bait, there's gays and conspiracies and catholicism and divinities; all you could ask for from an eva spinoff, in my opinion.

evangelion anima: perhaps one of the most batshit eva adaptations to ever be, and interestingly enough the only one which starts from the premise of the third impact being halted rather than being a straight-up alternate universe. it's been three years since near third impact, and seele and the angels are both looking to strike again: all the while, strange calamities have been occurring, and the moon seems to be acting weird, as nerv attempts to investigate. i love anima not much for itself, but for the insane plot points it contains: kaji is possessed by seele; asuka's eva has boobs and is a centaur; there are four reis and one of them is six, one is a seele spy, one gets bury your gays'd, and the remaining one gets possessed by the fridged one; asuka gets sent to the moon with the fridged rei; there's a portal to another dimension outside of time and space inside nerv hq; noah (as in the ark guy from the bible) is a featured character; and much more trivia i love telling my friends about!
