who i am
the lighting by a window on a rainy day. perfection. so, if i’m gonna stake my claim on my own corner of the internet, it’s probably best that you know who i am? yeah? so yeah. i’m eisley. or salem. i’m good with either, they’re both legally my name. i am an integrative changeworker. a life coach who is still coming around to claiming the title “life coach.” i like working with weirdos, in the…

person 1 (p1): saying this as a white person: privilege is not a bad thing and a lot of you need to get a grip if you have a complex about it. USE IT. hold yourself accountable! those of us with privilege have a role, and we cant step into that role if our head is still firmly up our own [butts]
person 2 (p2): privilege is having power as a result of detriments and genocides to other groups. there is no good way to use privilege. especially if the privilege is whte privilege, where its founded on colonial ethnocide. those with whte privilege need to step out of the identities that give them power over others. only in that way can it (whte privilege) be truly seen. instead of manipulating whats been manipulated: 1. help it see itself (it refuses to) 2. learn to go beyond coping with white guilt, and confront it.
discussion question: please say more about "stepping out of the identities that give...power over others"... what i'm not sure i understand is how to step out of a social structure that is imposed on me whether i agree with it or not. other than, striving to be intentional and conscious that my actions align with my commitments).
this is a great discussion, one of my favorites, one that i live for discussing both online and off. namely because it is unpacking exactly how we undo the thing. "how to step out of a social structure that is imposed on me". resolutions to this question are very deep, so this will spark later deep dives. i will provide some cards and points below, that can be seen as stones themselves that may or may not be used in someone's own stepping stone path, into decolonizing themselves.
these are my grounding points:
privilege is having power as a result of detriments and genocides to other groups.
whte privilege is founded on colonial ethnocide -- the ethnic cleansing, along with genocide, done directly or indirectly by colonizers and their descendants, towards the colonized and their descendants.
1. help it see itself (it refuses to) 2. learn to go beyond coping with white guilt, and confront it.
so we firstly have to critically analyze: what are elements of whiteness that embody and reflect white power, which thusly incentivizes white privilege?
to answer this, i quickly google searched "elements of white power". the first return is an apparently credible source, and i will use some of its points toward the resolutions we're looking for, contained in this post.
Minnesota Historical Society's Department of Inclusion and Community Engagement arranged this source, entitled "White Supremacy Culture" , which is from Dismantling Racism: a Workbook for Social Change Groups, by Kenneth Jones and Tema Okun, ChangeWork, 2001, https://www.thc.texas.gov/public/upload/preserve/museums/files/White_Supremacy_Culture.pdf ... while this source is directly referencing social change organizations, it is appropriate for discussions about social change on a more common level (ngo nonprofits should give people tools to effect change on a more common level, but because of how they're set up, they are not, as i have personally experienced in working for one within a network of non-profits for social change).
"This is a list of characteristics of white supremacy culture which show up in our organizations. Culture is powerful precisely because it is so present and at the same time so very difficult to name or identify. The characteristics listed below are damaging because they are used as norms and standards without being pro-actively named or chosen by the group. They are damaging because they promote white supremacy thinking. They are damaging to both people of color and to white people.
⚠ Power Hoarding
⚠ Fear of Open Conflict
⚠ Individualism
⚠ Objectivity
⚠ [No Cost-Benefit Analysis]
⚠ Perfectionism
⚠ Continued Sense of Urgency
⚠ Defensiveness
⚠ 'Quantity Over Quality'
⚠ Worship of the Written Word
⚠ Paternalism
⚠ Right to Comfort

How are you supposed to get what you want if you are not asking for it? And who do you ask? Well possibly the best person that can help you is yourself. To take a step back, the idea that everything that happens in our lives is for a reason has been around for a long time. So what if there was more to it? Like the belief that every thought we have, will form into reality is the idea of Manifestation. I know... Manifestation a “woo woo” subject. 🙄 But this post is to get you think of how you are using your conscious and subconscious to create change in our everyday life. So my question to you is does your conscious or subconscious have greater roll of you getting what you want out of life? Share your ideas in the comments below! Take care, Douglas ——- #creatives #changequotes #changework #subconsciousmind #growthmindset #manifestinggenerator #curingbroke (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVRGFdkPGoP/?utm_medium=tumblr

here’s a link to what i referenced in those tags

Organizations that are people of color-led or a majority people of color can also demonstrate many damaging characteristics of white supremacy culture.”
the article’s focused on organizations and their habits, but this stuff works on an individual level as well. worth the read and worth interrogating your own outlook imo
