My two friends and I went to a church camp in the Bahamas. The plane was a ferris wheel, and when we got there, we realized that church camp was in one year from now.

shoutout to the church camp counselor in middle school who asked me very seriously "did somebody do something to you?" after I came into the worship service crying and didn't want to tell her why.

I was actually just consumed with moral guilt over having (maybe?) cheated in a ball game I played earlier that evening and was convinced I had to tell my parents my Great Sins but I'm glad she was prepared for more than my 13yo anxiety nonsense 💀

Michael is the king of church camp. He doesn’t believe in God, but a week away from William, AND mostly outside, he’s all over it. Michael been there every year since he turned 10. He is friends with the entire staff, and all the regular campers.

The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism by Max Weber is kinda making me go "wow he gets it" cause my deep seated hatred for reform calvanistic theology goes all the way back to when I was like 9 at a anabaptist christian camp and they hired a bunch of nazarines for some reason and they were all like, strict and boring losers!!! They beleived in predestination which anabaptists arent about and also I feel that the music that year was lacking as well for that reason. Also id bible quiz againt nazarines and they just like, were taking it way to seriously. Im Like bruh fr lighten up, acting like youre gonna get paddled of you dont know the answer to a situation question (who said it...and to whom? "Feed my lambs") but they probably would. Thats just the vibe of the nazarines

So I’m at church camp right now and one of the preachers is talking all about the fruits of the spirit, you know, like love and joy and peace and all those? And he gets to the climax and exclaims “BE FRUITY!!!” and then he was like “wait. That didn’t come out right—”

Yes, a conservative preacher from Southern Georgia, with the southern accent and ALL, shouted at a crowd of people, from young teens to crotchety old ladies, to be more gay.

i saw a tiktok talking about how when Take Me to Church by Hozier came out Christians like claimed it but didnt realize what it was about which triggered the funniest member of when i used to go to church camp and the, like, 7th grade boys came marching out to our "assembly" whatever led by their high school age leader SCREAMING Take Me to Church as like... a battle cry.

idk i hated it at the time but now i find it so outrageously funny for no reason

It was before my time but a Christian summer camp I attended used to have “Missionary Camp” where you’d pretend to be missionaries in a country where Christianity was illegal for about a week. Then one night the dorms would get raided by the “government” in the middle of the night and everyone would get sent on buses to “prison” off of the campus and then they’d have to escape and trek back.

It apparently stopped being a thing because it required too much work to put together but I suspect the traumatizing element also played a factor.

As a girl that goes to church camp, this is 10/10 accurate. Like I swear, the boys (or anyone for this matter) could be crying or smth THEN this song plays, and 3/4 of the camp is dancing to church clap. 😌

OH don’t even get me STARTED on being a teen worker at pre teen camp and taking midnight showers in the shower house 😌 taking a shower and goofing around (like turning the lights off and sticking a mop in someone’s shower) is literally one of the best things to do after a long day of cleaning the camp.

Was a camp counselor (unpaid babysitter) at a very white, religious summer camp last month. I'm not religious anymore, but my younger, also gay friends were going for the first time (they're agnostic and not out to their religious families yet) and there were speedboats, which I love.

I live in a less than diverse area, and the LDS church was hosting the camp, so I'm sure you can imagine just how white the crowd was. Not a single POC in sight out of like 80 people. I bring this up because one of the eleven year olds I was in charge of proudly talked about how her nickname was "cracker" which prompted the other youth leaders my age to freak out. Someone from my town who I see weekly was like "oh no, I hope she's not getting bullied at school, it sounds like there's black kids that have been calling her slurs :(("

And of course I can't tell this sheltered Mormon to grow the fuck up (even if I'm openly an atheist, I've got a nice, caring girl reputation to uphold) so I just had to settle for telling her that the kid probably gave herself that nickname, and every kid goes through a phase were they try to convince other people to call them by their favorite food, but wanting to make it look like someone else nicknamed them. I really wanted to be chicken nugget for a month when I was ten, and I was super upset when it didn't catch on.

Anyway, the other glorified babysitter was like "what? I don't know any kids who did that. Anyway that poor girl, she doesn't even know they're being mean to her :(((("

Guess which sheltered teens discovered through trying to subtly question the girl that her favorite food was in fact crackers, and that no one actually called her that unless she asked them to.
