I don't think it's about Harry Potter itself, just everything that's been going on with its author
I think thatās irrelevant to enjoying the content?
I mostly read classical literature, listen to classical music and only really enjoy older art. I donāt exclude art because others donāt agree with the personal opinion of the long dead creators.
On the other hand Iām a bit of a loner and I am ignorant on celebrity culture, it seems every week someone famous/popular says the wrong thing and I couldnāt keep up if I wanted to. I have no idea why JKR is considered irrevocably evil and I have little desire to check š¤·š¼āāļø

Shinjuku station, 2018
In the summer of 2018, as I was waiting for the train in Shinjuku, a girl came to me and asked if she could take a picture of me. When she took out her disposable camera, I immediately accepted and asked her to message me the picture once the film was developed. I recently found it again.

That was... wonderful... to just hear it done for real, after... what? Four years of thinking about it? Wondering whether it would work, wondering if I'd written bits too fast, or too slow, or... to actually sort of... hear it done by real, professional people and the singers. It's... there isn't a word for it, actually.
Standing Stone, by Paul McCartney
Royal Albert Hall Performance (x)
Making Of Documentary (x)
Standing Stone is a 74 minute long classical piece of music, which Paul worked on for four years. It premiered at the Royal Albert Hall on 14 October 1997 with the London Symphony Orchestra and London Symphony Chorus, conducted by Lawrence Foster.
After his success with his first classical piece, The Liverpool Oratorio, Paul was commissioned to create some music to celebrate EMI's centenary. He came up with the idea of exploring "the way a Celtic man might have wondered about the origins of life and the mystery of human existence" and tied this in the with standing stones which to him symbolised something mystical and long lasting.
Photos by Linda McCartney, included on the album.
Paul wrote a poem to assist in getting the story he was trying to convey straight in his head, and it was printed in the booklet of the album. However, Paul wanted the music to work without the listener necessarily knowing the story, for the music to speak for itself, and so wanted to create a piece that "relies entirely on colours and effects drawn from orchestral and choral forces".
He also created two paintings to go alongside it:

I really recommend watching the documentary, Paul is absolutely delightful throughout the whole thing. It's the first time he'd used a computer and software to help him compose and he seems so excited to talk about it (and he has a Wallace & Gromit mouse mat!).
What's also interesting is how the rest of the team spoke about him. They all make a point that this was Paul's creation, and although David Matthews, John Harle, and Richard Rodney Bennet were brought in to assist with the composition, they all talk about Paul's talent, hard work, and the freshness of approach he brought. (The words 'benevolent dictator' may get used at some point, but they also speak of his kindness and generosity.)
It amazes me that someone with no formal music training could make a leap for pop/rock to classical. Composing for an entire 80 piece orchestra and 120 member choir is a completely different skillset to writing a song for the radio (and I'm not saying that's a lesser thing to be able to do, just different). The fact Paul was not only willing to take on the challenge and push himself, but created something so magical speaks to the sheer creative force that he is.
#paul mccartney#standing stone#the beatles#<- sorry i know it's not beatles but i'm here to spread the word of all of paul's other cool projects to you#that documentary is my new favourite paul thing#it's 50ish mins and you'll just have the best time watching him put this amazing thing together#he just continually astounds me while being the silliest little guy#like imagine having no formal music training#not being able to notate music#but being able to compose THAT long a piece for a whole orchestra and choir#like obviously he got lots of hands on experience with music#but for real how many people could actually make that leap#and the whole time just dancing and singing and getting excited about your shirt having musical instruments on it š#and also we need more 90s paul appreciation#and please listen to the music!!#none of this 'classical music is boring' bullshit#because it isn't and you can still hear so much of paul in this!!#mine#paul#97

the history of animation in a nutshell
Early 1900s: hey what if comic strips could like move?
Late 1910s early 1920s hey what if we mashed this up with live action people?
late 1920s: hey what if this thing had sound?
Early to mid 1930s: hey what if this had people actually talking and also color?
late 1930s: hey you know that super cool movie that one lady animated with paper cut out silhouettes? What if we did that with painted cells? Would people even pay to see that? Never mind it turns out the answer is yes.
1940s: ah shit most of our animators got drafted and/or hate us now cause we werenāt paying them. ITāS PROPAGANDA TIME BABY. Also haha hitler got hit with a mallet and also the most racist depictions of Japanese people ever.
1950s to 1960s : oh whatās this newfangled thing? Television? What if you could air cartoons on it? Oh fuck no I aināt paying that much to get the charecters to have different backgrounds and for the charecters to like, move fluidly. Also manga and anime are steadily growing more popular.
1970s: (Ralph Bakshi walks into a comics store and finds a furry comic) X rated animated movie? *cue the screams of mothers and their unsuspecting children now being introduced to the revolutionary idea that cartoons donāt equal kids stuff? WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?
1980s to 1990s: we can have full on animated Broadway musicals? Wait, what do you mean animated movies can count for the Oscarās? What do you mean now they get their own catagory because the academy still thinks their for babies? Anime and manga are taking off in the west. SWEET JESUS WHAT DRUGS ARE THE JAPANESE ON SHOWING THIS SHIT TO KIDS. But also why is it so fucking good. Maybe some of these arenāt even meant for kids? Wait We can sell toys to kids with cartoons? Wait we can actually put effort into these cartoons on television? The fuck to you mean we can animate in 3D now? What do you mean we can have well animated, well written sitcom shows like the simpsons? What do you mean you can make cartoon charecters say fuck? What drugs are creators at Nickelodeon on? Do I even want to know?
2000s: oh my god, there is this one show that I really like cause itās really well written and genuinely funny but I canāt talk about it because itās animated and we all know cartoons are for babies right? Oh look itās the transformers movie, look how far CGI has evolved so we can make the transformers in a movie.
2010s: holy shit I know these shows are for kids but theyāre just well written and have so much meaningful things to say about the world. Wait, itās cool to like cartoons now? They they have fandoms for this? Fuck yeah Iām in. (Enters one of the most notoriously toxic fandoms of all time) THEY HAVE GAY PEOPLE IN THESE SHOWS NOW? AND COMPLEX EMOTIONAL STORYTELLING? AND ADULT ANIMATED SHOWS CAN BE MORE THAN JUST SITCOMS WITH THE SAME JOKES AND STYLE? WHY IS IT THAT EVERY DISNEY CARTOON SINCE GRAVITY FALLS INCLUDE THINGS THAT GET MORE AND MORE FUCKED UP? WHY DO I FUCKING LOVE IT? WHY THE FUCK DID DISNEY DO THE OWL HOUSE DIRTY LIKE THAT?
2020s: I got this show I wanna pitch but it dosenāt fit into any box that the networks want and also Iām afraid that theyāll just randomly cancel it before I can finish the story I want to tell. Wait, I can just post the pilot on my YouTube channel, see if anybody actually likes this thing I made and just make the show independently? FUCK THE NETWORK! I AM THE NETWORK
