“At this moment, all is change. Transformation seems permanent. I was trembling with a type of excitement that I had never felt before, a powerful mixture of anticipation and regret, as if I somehow knew that eternal gain and irretrievable loss were about to be parceled out equally—as if the idea of justice were about to be made a material thing.”

Russell Banks, an award-winning fiction writer who rooted such novels as “Affliction” and “The Sweet Hereafter” in the wintry, rural communities of his native Northeast and imagined the dreams and downfalls of everyone from modern blue-collar workers to the radical abolitionist John Brown, has died. He was 82.
Banks, a professor emeritus at Princeton University, died Saturday in upstate New York, his editor, Dan Halpern, told The Associated Press. Banks was being treated for cancer, Halpern said.

Let's Take A Hike.
It's been over a full day since our pinned post was put up! I already have some followers and I welcome everyone - thank you for your interest already! Since we have a small audience I thought I would come in and say hello in a more relaxed way.
My name is Jingo (he/him)! I am the owner of SCC, as well as cat enthusiast, book consumer and local idea-haver. My favorite activity is Thinking Purposefully - mostly about my surroundings. The sky, the buildings, art pieces, textures, colors, smells, sounds, tones - taking in my environment in a planned methodical manner makes me feel immersed in it, like I'm giving every thing in my vicinity its deserved attention.
This habit is exactly how Summitclan was born.
In late summer of 2023, when the air is still thick but the wind blows cool, I started having a difficult time of things & my ever-patient and attentive partner decided to take me to a little lake to get me in the sun. We had a picnic, listened to music, danced, and the waves hush-hushed against the rocks. This day gave birth to a weekend tradition of hiking New York State's wilderness.
First it was just nature walks, then small forays into wooded foothills, with loops and connected webbings of trails. Then we set our sights on the Adirondack range, and the rolling peaks we always admired during the early morning drive to work, blue sentinels that - at the time of posting - are slowly being swallowed by encroaching wintry night-dawns.
I have been to, and fallen in love with, a little troop of peaks now: Buck Mountain is a dear friend, but I have also gotten to know Roostercomb and Shelving Rock. On all these ventures I found myself unable to stop Thinking Purposefully. I notice every fallen acorn, rustling leaf and broken stick; I eagerly observe how water falls down rocks, how leaves flutter to the ground, how downed trees entangle with each other, keeping each other alive. I discovered minute bugs, observant chipmunks, hidden slugs, old snail shells, coyote tracks, whitetail antler scrapes and old abandoned black bear dens.
As often happens, I became haunted by little cats.
If you've gone this far you probably have heard of Warrior Cats, and its magnetic pull toward certain people. In any natural setting they crawl into the backs of my eyes, and my hikes are no different, similarly influenced by tiny invasive animals with funny habits. But I am a writer, a poet, a dork; I like exploring ideas. I'll never solve a rubik's cube, but my brain might as well be one.
As I turned warrior-cats-in-the-adirondacks around and around, I started mucking up a silly fanclan I started calling AntlerClan after its fake mountain, Antlerhead Mountain. (This is still the name of the mountain in the full version, but the cats don't know that.) The cats in my head now form prehistoric generations of Summitclan: they showed me how they came together, how they showed they cared, and what they did for the cats in the future... but I was still seeing this from the angle of a fanfiction, and try as I might I could not escape the thick fog of "modern" characters. I could think of many ideas for the formations, the cultures, the stories, the values, but what about now?
It occured to me that it wasn't a story I could, or even would, write alone. This sort of project isn't really something to be discussed, but lived and experienced, I supposed: interpreted and used and tested against organic situations.
So, I retooled some things to make them compatible with roleplay instead. The little cats in my head were pleased with the changes. Now they told me all sorts of things and I knew this was a community I was building, not a story.
So here we are at the summit of our hike, and the birth of Summitclan. As my thoughts were cresting I happened to find my copy of Tailchaser's Song. After a spotty reread I got the idea to drop the capitalized "Clan." It feels appropriate in the books, when the Clanhood feels so intensely identifying and they feel so othered from neighboring groups. But Summitclan lives alone, and is intrinsically one with the rest of the surrounding population of cats. They cannot afford to feel othered or to turn their nose at things unfamiliar or strange, so isolated are they.
So, Summitclan it was. I had my moment in the sun, standing at the peak of my work: the building was done. Now came the hard work of going back down before dark.
September 9th, 2023 I made my very first draft of the roleplay version of my idea. On the 26th, I had my things properly organized and rewritten to my liking. I decided I would start advertising in November, and open in 2024.
So here we are. It is a Friday, November 3rd. We have reached the parking lot at the bottom of our hike, now. When you hike with someone you learn a lot about them: do they take the muddy path or the dry path? hard or easy? do they pause often to take in the view? I hope you've learned enough about me now to feel comfortable joining my community. I plan on going on a lot of hikes.
In the meantime, here are some photos of my adventures. Whatever comes up the trail ahead, I wish you the best, and I'm very glad I met you!

The Cloudsplitter, an airship that can separate into four smaller ships!
The Cloudsplitter sails far above the clouds, a unique airship created by gnomish engineers. This ship is able to separate at will, splitting into four smaller ships.
This provides the ship with another level of utility, and allows the ship to better maneuver during combat, scout in different directions, or escape when attacked.
Thank you to my Patrons who suggested this cool concept. The idea of smaller ships being able to combine into one larger ship instantly lit a lightbulb in my head, and I had to make it!
These maps come with day/night versions, water & space variants, and tokens to give you full flexibility with how you want to use this ship.
You can download all 4 maps for free here.

SG Earthspark: Thinking of the names for the four potential Autobot-created other shard terrans. The ones who would be recolors of Thrash, Nightshade, Jawbreaker, and Hashtag due to the Autobots making them scan the same altmodes so the Autobots would get the Malto kids' abilities without them. (Spitfire is the one who's forced to scan Wheeljack's drone)
Some name ideas i got from a generator: Enigma, Zephyr, Ace, Quarrel, Cloudsplitter, Starways, Speedbump, Meteoride, Quickcharge, Sparkwheels, Starcharger, Wreckless, Roadglide, Groundworks, Starflight, Bulletburn, Lazerflight, Dinoblast, Crackboom, Rotorblitz, Fangstrike
Maybe not Groundworks, since that sounds like the name of a construction vehicle. Maybe the ones that kind of imply a certain altmode should be avoided?
No ideas on what their personalities could be.
I like the names Enigma and Zephyr, with maybe Enigma looking like Hashtag and Zephyr looking like Nightshade?
Either Wreckless or Dinoblast would be cool for our Jawbreaker clone, but maybe Dinoblast is too on the nose

if you don't mind sharing, what font do you use for fairmeadow?
The font I use for dialogue is Cloudsplitter from Blambot. I also use Dragon Bones sometimes
If you mean the logo, I hand lettered that! I think I based it off a few different fonts I liked, Westiva and HWT Arabesque

I’m enjoying Cloudsplitter (on chapter 2) but the writing is so contemporary that I cannot buy it being written by someone who grew up in the 1800s.

Feral Humans
The subject of feral humans brings another, rather fascinating element to any discussion about Bigfoot. Some people feel that a certain percentage of Bigfoot sightings might actually have been humans who have, for one reason or another, entered a wild, animalistic state. Here are three cases of note.
Date: December 24, 1983 Location: Union County Jan Thompson reported seeing a very tall (over six foot) naked man with unhealthy-looking pale skin and a head of long, flowing hair, walking at night on Christmas Eve. The person seemed to be in a completely feral state and had blood in its hair and on its hands and face. Because of its animalistic facial features and behavior, not to mention solid red glowing eyes. Thompson was inclined to think of more as a Bigfoot-type creature than a human being, especially since Bigfoot reports are common in Union County.
Date: Summer 1985 Location: Estill County After local residents began reporting a manlike figure prowling in the woods near their houses, Bigfoot rumors began circulating like wildfire in the area. Police combed the wilderness and apprehended a man, a native of Irvine, who had been on the missing persons list for quite some time. According to reports, he was naked but covered with mud and foliage to the extent that vines and moss and lichen were actually growing in his hair and on his body. He was in a completely animal-like state of mind, could not or would not speak English, and had to be forcibly subdued. He was taken to Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond. There were no further reports on his recovery in local media.
Date: Spring 1990 Location: Red River Gorge, near Slade, in Powell County The author encountered, face-to-face in the wilderness near Cloudsplitter Rock, an adult (in his thirties) Caucasian male, walking in the woods, naked but covered with mud, leaves, and vines, which were matted into his hair and beard as well, giving him an almost absurd "ZZ Top turn Swamp Thing" appearance. He walked with a hunched, apelike gait. He spotted me moments after I spotted him, and we stared at each other for what at the time felt like an eternity. Finally he turned and fled. His eyes seemed to show some intelligence, but he was still extremely animal-like and seemingly unable to speak. I made no effect to follow him. I have heard similar stories over the years from locals in Slade, about old "Mountain Men" who have lost their minds and are now living deep in the wilderness, reverted to an animal-like state.
