Despite the beauty of the glistening droplets on the wet grasses and wildflowers, there is a limit to how much saturation of the tail feathers a fluffy bird can tolerate while drinking in the wonders of Nature… or should he say, bathing in them…
So, after exchanging greetings with a passing frog who evidently enjoyed the sodden conditions a great deal more than he did, Algy flew back up into the pine tree and made himself comfortable on a cushion of soft, aromatic pine needles, tucking his tail well into the heart of the tree and away from the rain.
There were now two robins singing somewhere nearby, indulging in a delightfully harmonious competition in the dense Scotch mist, and Algy could think of no better way of passing the time in such dreich conditions than by defying the weather with a song. The elegant counterpoint of his wee feathered friends reminded him of another more famous duet, which, as it happened to mention a pine tree, seemed particularly apposite, so without further ado Algy opened his beak as widely as he could and began to sing…
[In case the video link doesn't work, Algy thought you might like to know that he is singing The Trail of The Lonesone Pine, as made famous by one of the most celebrated comedy teams of all time, Laurel and Hardy.]

The vaudeville team of Block and Sully ca. 1940
Husband and wife Jesse Block and Eva Sully were very successful in vaude, only closing down the act in '46. Their only feature appearance was in the aforementioned Kid Millions, where she plays the kind of cute & horny woman who signified "comic grotesque" to '30s audiences (see also: all of Martha Raye's movies of that decade), and he's her father, an Egyptian sheik.
This photo has a very strong Judith and Holofernes vibe.

A Three Stooges Finding Aid
And why not? We’ve done as much for most of the other major classic comedians here, and this will help you navigate your way through the many posts we’ve done about the team. Most amusing to me this morning was my assumption that I might have a half dozen Three Stooges posts to present you with here at best. There turned out to be dozens, and I might have included more if I had added the many…

was rewatching fabian’s baron moment on account of it being the most delicious piece of pvp in my recent memory and ally beardsley’s growth as a player just shone through so brightly and with such clarity. after dusting off their shock they immediately asked about the nemesis ward, had enough knowledge about fellow pcs stocked to remember adaine’s ac with such like frustrated confidence and certainty, suggested to siobhan to dimension door out of adaine’s room, like. they came into this making a character with 4 dex. and now the dice deity offered to roll a check to sense if adaine was in danger. making decisions, asking questions, getting invested in the story, trying so hard with the tools they have to save characters from danger; ally beardsley is an incredible d&d player.

A Century of Burns and Allen
A century ago this year, George Burns teamed with Gracie Allen and made their debut in a vaudeville house somewhere in New Jersey. Nowhere that I’ve been able to find (and I and others have looked hard) does anybody seem to know where or when with more specificity, but Jersey in 1923 (or late 1922) seems to be the consensus. We’ve chosen today, George’s birthday, to announce that naturally we…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Tom Bailey (Thompson Twins), Keisha Lance Bottoms, Christian Burns (BB Mak), Johnny Costa (Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood), Kevin Costner, composer César A Cui, Elijah Cummings, conductor Janos Ferencsik, Bobby Goldsboro, Cary Grant, Bo Gritz, Danny Kaye, jazz tuba player/bassist "Min" Leibrook, Jesse L. Martin, Crispian Mills (Kula Shakur), A.A. Milne, Constance Moore, Samantha Mumba, "Yannis" Papaioannou, pedal steel guitar legend Al Perkins, David Ruffin, Shostakovich’s 1930 satirical opera THE NOSE, Larry “Legs” Smith, Daniel Webster, Daniel Hale Williams, and actor-singer Oliver Hardy of the legendary comedy team Laurel & Hardy. In his well-documented life, he appeared in at least 107 films. His first “real job” was managing a movie theatre (including janitor and projectionist) in his hometown of Midgeville, Georgia. His talents were obvious, and friends urged him to go to Jacksonville FL where there was a small film industry. That led to Hollywood, where he started working in bigger roles as “Babe” Hardy—alternately known for his vibrant singing voice. In 1927 he teamed up with Stan Laurel, and the rest is history. Laurel & Hardy became successful icons—oft-imitated, oft-quoted, and still drawing audiences today. Even their catch-phrases are imbedded in our culture. Here’s a song I wrote based on the L&H bromide, “Well here’s another fine mess you’ve gottten me into…” HB Oliver and thank you for the countless hours of joy you’ve given to the world.
