And it's a really fun community! As a writer and reader it's awesome to participate as both, but don't think that if you only read fics you aren't important to the community. Kudos and comments are so awesome to get and each one is appreciated by writers and artists. Likes and dms and reblogs on tumblr are great too. I didn't realize until I was more actively participating how much fun I had missed out on when I used to read but not comment on fics, etc. If you want to have more fun, join in by making your appreciation for fanworks known! You won't regret it.
a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.

Repentant!Sauron AU following the TROP timeline. A plot-driven reader-insert fic that is also just an excuse for me to explore the brief repentance implied in the Silm.🤞🏼

i keep debating whether to make this post but ive seen it increase as a trend outside of just my current totally barren niche fandom corner (shoutout to being the only active writer in a ship tag!) and pop up more and more in extremely big major property tags as well, so just as a gentle suggestion to anyone reading this: if you bookmark a fic that you have already read and enjoyed (that is to say, you aren't bookmarking it "for later", but because you liked it), please consider also commenting. ik this isnt true of all writers but one of my largest motivations for sharing the work ive written is to build community and generate discussion around the characters i love, so seeing the bookmark count steadily increase on fics with only 2 or 3 comments ends up being the opposite of the encouragement i technically know it should be, and instead can be kind of frustrating

So I hesitated whether to put this, but I am doing it. I wanted to ask my dear readers to please, if you like my story, leave a kudos in it (and that goes for any story you enjoy at AO3). This story currently has more than 5k hits (which holy shit thank you for that), but less than 200 kudos, and honestly that does make me sad.
Fanfiction is a labor of love and community guys, and I've been very lucky that I've had a ton of lovely people commenting, and even a lot of them commenting every week or more than once (to all of you who write here, thank you, you guys make my week, I am not kidding! It fills my heart with love to see people liking my prose, and the conversations we establish in the comments give me such happiness! And whether you comment once or twice, or every week, thank you so so much for every one of them).
And I know a lot of people feel too shy to comment and I understand! But please, think about leaving kudos instead, you can even do it as a guest!
Fanfiction asks no money, it doesn't bombard you with ads like everything else does nowadays. People share stories because that's the nature of humanity, and I am not in anyway saying I'll stop if I don't get kudos or comments. But with the press of a button, you can let the authors know their work and efforts are appreciated, that there is someone on the other side, hearing you.
I honestly appreciate every one of you, and this is no way an attempt to SHAME anyone! Never! I just ask you to think about it.
Be safe and kind out there, and take care of our community in ao3.

"A promise and a threat"
A Gravity Falls fic by Clarisimart (Read here)
Almost two years after Weirmaggeddon-that-wasn’t, while sailing the seas with his brother, Stanford Pines is accosted in his dreams by the memories of his past with Bill Cipher. As if that wasn't stressfull enough, the brothers receive a distressed call from Soos calling them home. Something is lurking in Gravity Falls. Something hungry.
Yep my first longfic! The dangers of drawing and writing is that I am stuck in a creative loop now (i like it here don't get me out)
If you like:
SIbling angst
Regular angst
Old men crying and being emotionally constipated
The FAE
Toxic yaoi with explorations of how it can mess you up emotionally
Horror elements
A murder mystery plot
Flashbacks to karaoke night (teen)
Possesion tropes!
And my best swing at stablishing how tf magic works in Gravity Falls
This might be the fic for thee!

I think I've already posted about this once, but this story is really special to me so it always warms my heart when I see it in the daily kudos e-mail. I didn't expect people would love it as much as they do, because for most people Gax is about hate sex and mean things and stuff like that but this story doesn't have any of those things, it's basically pure fluff. I wrote it in October, 2024, and I still get kudos e-mails about it. When I posted I was really scared of what people would say about it, because you know, cardiophilia, soft Gax and stuff like that. And I still get e-mail about it. It's unbeliavable, really.
A few months ago I started writing the second chaptet of it, I wrote about 600 words but then I didn't pick it up again but I think about it every time I see this story in the kudos e-mails. I really want to write that second chapter, guys. I really really want it but things are really difficult nowadays. But I'll try for those 8 subscribers and 39 bookmarkers. I don't know if I'll succed, and if yes, then when, but I'll try.

Y'all really need to start leaving comments on fics more btw.
I just got two AO3 comments (one for each chapter) on a fic I made *checks notes* in 2023. Same person for both, and I cannot tell you how excited that makes me.
Like, give just a couple words. "Oh this is great!"
"I loved how you described (insert scene here)."
"The way you write (character) is so good!"
Literally anything.
Art is being devalued by society and AI is rising and sucking away all the artistic integrity from projects. So give some love to the people who put in the hard work to make something for a fandom you care about.

surprise people its paladin au day. and that means its fig day
She belongs here. She’s glad she finally figured it out. Now she just needs to get her friends back and bring them here, even if it means digging up their corpses and shoving the stars Porter commands into their chests and letting them make their choice. They’re not gonna be like Lucy Frostblade, though. She knows them. The Rat Grinders were a mess, six people dragged into a loose approximation of a party and forced into being versions of themselves that served their so-called leader even when it went against their higher goal. The love between them was easy to lose, easy to break. Her party, though? They’re unbreakable. They walked through hell together, both literally and metaphorically, and they came out alive. It might take them a little while to figure out that Porter’s in the right, but they’ll come back. They’ll choose to come back if it means being together. They’ll come back for her. ... Figueroth Faeth is going to kill her best friends and put rage crystals in their chests. It's gonna be epic. They'll be a party again. All she has to do is convince Porter to let her. And then a song she started writing before Porter ascended comes on the radio, and everything changes.
hope yall enjoy it i keep putting oisin hakinvar into comedic duos.

my toxic trait is that when I finish reading a fic I enjoyed and go to leave kudos, but then see that the notes at the end say "leave comments or you're an asshole, I'm sick of y'all not just pressing the kudos button, it's literally not hard", I will simply close the tab and not leave kudos. unfortunately!

hi mags! big big fan of your work 🥹 i just wanted to ask a lil about how you went about starting to write fanfic n self ship stuff? i’ve been wanting to for a while now but the thought of actually posting it out of nowhere seems pretty daunting to me 😭
dearest anon... I understand how you feel...... but listen... the very first time you start posting fics and silly stuff, you'll probably feel nervous at first, but then it's super fun and freeing... when I first started posting fanfic, it was one of the most fun and happy times in my whole life. once I got over that initial fear of what people would think, and realized I could just be myself, I truly enjoyed every aspect of my silly postings. and I'll always look at that time fondly, even if my writing has improved since then!
we all have to start somewhere!! just do what you love, it's such a nice feeling. and I promise soon you won't be alone, you'll find others who love the same things..........

wish my laptop still worked so I could replay starcraft and try to force my brain to get back into obsessing over it because writing for it was honestly a significantly more rewarding experience than writing Resident Evil stuff is. with RE it feels like there's competition. there's enough fic that people aren't going to read all of it, there's new fic constantly. the fandom also has a ton of talented people making fanart. it's harder to be noticed.
but Starcraft is a tiny, extremely dead fandom. it was years ago when I wrote for it, and it's wayyyy deader now than it was back then. if you want Jim Raynor/Sarah Kerrigan porn you're probably set, but if you want to read anything else pickings are slim. the OTP that I wrote for currently has 13 fics on ao3, and that's including my own fics. When I first started posting fic, there were only two fics, mine was the third ever posted. (mine was the second ever in English actually, the very first fic was Mandarin. Which I read via google translate because I was desperate for any scrap.) fics that came after mine... one author I felt wrote them very out of character but I still read everything they wrote because there was nothing else.
fanart is a desert too. p sure there's less than 5 pieces of fanart of my OTP in existence. ofc there's more if you broaden to Starcraft overall and not just my ship, but still there's just not much compared to other fandoms. I recently got a comment on my 2018 fic from someone saying that, among other things, they recently got into Starcraft and have never been interested in fanfic before but decided to start reading it because there wasn't enough fanart to satisfy them.
the thing with writing for Starcraft is that the audience is going to be inherently a lot smaller than RE, and yet it feels like a bigger audience because the entire audience wants to have everything you have to offer. I can say that confidently because I've been on both sides of it, both posting fic that I didn't think was all that good or had weird concepts I came up with myself and yet had doubts/mixed feelings about that still got engagement, and then with me reading fic that had things I didn't really like but still read because being picky was a luxury I didn't have. more people are going to click on my RE fics, maybe more people will leave kudos on them, but at the end of the day they're drops in the bucket and aren't as impactful to people because they're just one of a dozen RE fics that person read that day. I do feel that my starcraft fics will always be more appreciated because even if it's less people reading them total, it's people who feel far more passionate and grateful that they even exist at all. I can post extremely high effort RE fic that I consider to be my finest work and get a single comment at best and a handful of kudos, but I guarantee that I could post some shitty half baked barely coherent starcraft oneshot I shit out in an hour and it would get at least the same amount of engagement because people will take what they can get when they don't have hundreds of other fics to try and sufficient fanart to give them a quick fix, and they're going to be a hell of a lot more grateful to you individually when you're one of a very, very few people providing what they want.
just very interesting how different writing for different fandoms can truly be.
