My life has been dictated by a primary core belief, and only recently has that surfaced in its full, raw, legible, comprehensible form:
'Nothing I do is worth anything, so why bother'
Being beyond the lvl 30 threshold [by a few levels] in the way that seems to count most to society, this is a challenging program to remove from my psyche. Would be challenging even if I were a teen dealing with this and not a full ass adult. And it seemed like everything supported this belief; that nothing so much as attempted to debunk it. Something so normalized internally that I wasn't actually fully aware of it.
Then I encountered my partner.
Long story short, all of the factors should not have made it possible for us to meet at all. But, through a series of tedious and precise events, we were brought together. My life improved in ways that surpassed all expectations by leagues because their presence planted a new belief:
'I am worth something to someone who matters to me.'
This starts to contradict the long-standing core belief, which makes that original belief chafe its way to the surface to justify itself. If nothing I do matters, then why is this amazing person choosing to love and support me? What's the catch? Growth.
To maintain the longevity of this healthy relationship that whispers to me every night and morning 'You're worth something' with a genuine kindness... I had to grow. Develop. Learn. Especially the skills I'd been denied in youth or younger years that are crucial to momentum. Critical thinking skills. Learning how to learn. Networking and forming community... On and on.
The original core belief nearly ended our relationship.
I can say from my own experience that if you are also a person that feels certain experiences only impact you... no, they don't. Your sense of self-worth is perceived by others and they regard you accordingly. Your choice to do or not do something you claim to be important to you can set the tone for how people regard you. Keeping your struggles to yourself because you can't risk losing another person... or pushing the person away when they advocate for you... or operating entirely on fear because the world is terrible and terrifying...
People pay attention, and they act accordingly. If they leave you, either they weren't a match to your growth or success, or you aren't a match to your growth and success. And it is not as often as one might think that it's the former over the latter.
When I met my partner, I took a blind risk on getting to know a person that looked cute and had a personality I jived with. 2.5 years later, we're the couple other people gag over, and we're proud of it.
Last year, I took a risk on a trip I'd never done involving a bunch of people I didn't know. I solidified a couple of friendships and created several others. I also have spent a lot more time traveling and engaging with the world.
More recently, I made a post about my very first zine, expecting nothing in return beyond a like or two. Now, it's my most popular original post to date and encourages me to leave comments rather than likes on more things that matter.
I will feel the original core belief shaking inside me, because it can take awhile to break habits and form new ones. But I now have new ones to carry me onward, stealing some thunder from the old to boost their own volume and resonance.
'The risks have paid off, and I am worth something to someone because of them'

Prompt 339
So erm, Danny might’ve fallen through a portal. And might have no clue where he is right now.
He fell into an alleyway! Right into a dumpster! Which isn’t the worst thing he’s fallen into but still. Ew. Well, Dad should be able to find him and bring him back home! …Right?
He shakes out his itchy fur and scales, already impatient and bored in the single alley despite it only being a few minutes. What’s a realms hatchling to do but explore? Well, besides taking care of his shed, but it’s too dry where he is anyway. Maybe he’ll find a lake!
Hm. He can’t understand what anyone is shouting or freaking out about. It’s like they’ve never seen a dragon or something, geeze! Oh well, he’s on his way to find water, he’s not built for the desert…

was thinking about the horrifying implications of the belief system in to be hero x, and it occurred to me that the worst possible outcome for lin ling is just... complete conversion.
in a way, it's already began. first his looks and his powers. his hair and eyes have changed. he can do ballet. he can fight and fly. and that is terrible in its own way, but at least it only stopped at outward, physical changes. it's invasive, yes, but bearable and even preferred to keep the lie going. but the latest episode showed that the change started to infect his behavior. he's more fussy. his OCD is developing. he's starting to hate being unclean, imperfect. the belief of thousands is literally changing him not only on a physical but also on a mental level.
but people believe, wholeheartedly, that lin ling is nice. so what's stopping him from becoming nice, in reality? what if he starts remembering things that haven't happened to him? he sees a restaurant, and remembers a date with xiao yueqing he never actually went to. at a familiar street corner, he remembers going to ice cream with wreck. he opens his email and starts composing an answer to a message to a boy that he's never talked to outside a staged fight.
do you think he would be scared? anxious? would he notice what is happening? he noticed the physical changes, but not the mental one until the conversation with xiao yueqing pointed it out. do you think he would realize what is going on? or would he, one day, start writing to wreck once again, start acting like nice never died at all? because to him, he didn't. lin ling took his place, completely and irreversibly.
if people only believe enough, it might become true.

I fully believe if L whipped his dick out at quite literally ANY point in the series Light would suck it with 0 questions asked. Like it wouldn't even be an internal debate and the inner monologue would be exactly like their tennis match. I'm not even sure either of them would consider it sex and it would not be weird

The Moon Child - Part 1
Part 2
A/n: There's a bunch of batfam adoptions, let's switch it up a bit.
Summary Background info: Danny died fully to the GIW. His class noticed when Danny disappeared and think his parents killed him. The city now believes he lives among the stars. On the same day Danny died, however, the moon was smashed to bits and rained down asteroids into the ocean and land of Earth. The Lanterns replace it with a new moon. The ocean life believes that the moon's spirit will not like being replaced.
Tw: Bad parents, depression, dissociation, vivisection scars, past death, discrimination, angst, hurt/comfort
Danny is a full ghost and looks like a child because that's all his core can expend; Danny becomes a moon spirit. Aquaman/Arthur is the movie version, the fun upbeat guy, not the serious one.

The Moon Child Part 1 - Strong Beliefs Come to Life
When the moon was destroyed, the Lanterns had agreed to send over a new one to make sure the Earth didn't destroy itself without the Moon to guide the oceans. It wasn't difficult to get one, though it was a lot of paperwork.
But when it was done, the Justice League thought that was it. Batman, being the paranoid man he was, demanded those with cities near a beach and Aquaman to report regularly about any changes in the ocean with the new moon while he checks other things that would be affected by it. They didn't bother to argue, as their luck always had it that peace was never a lasting thing. So the extra precaution was fine, but they didn't think anything of it after a few weeks of nothing happening.
The ocean life thought otherwise. Unlike the beings on land, who worship the sun, the beings in the ocean believed in the moon. Legends, myths, and many beliefs surrounding the moon's corpse that had mostly fell in their waters had risen.
The Moon is not meant to be replaced
The Moon is not like the others
The Moon will believe we did not care
The Moon will return and haunt these waters
-
Cries echoed in the dark of night. Moonstones guided the way to the origin of said sobs that were as powerful as the sirens' voice. Yet what the sirens attracted was lust, not melancholy.
Those who followed them would begin to see a dim light grow brighter and brighter, but never irritate. Instead, it would bring a wave of sorrowful tranquility.
When they reached the origin, they would see a small child holding their tail that faded in solidity. Their hair as white as how the moon used to be. Their skin as pale as a human who had died in freezing temperatures. And their eyes a beautiful silver that matched the stones that trailed away from them.
They wore loose and poofy at the bottom pants that matched a dark night sky and a translucent veil that had constellations move around the dark blue fabric. His upper body was bare, and he covered it with the veil, which darkened when wrapped to shield his body from being seen. (think Egyptian dancer)
And that's when the creatures of the ocean had a realization. Their deity was too kind to exact revenge for the blasphemy. Their pain was not one to simply end in an instant.
The Moon has returned, and they are not angered.
They thought they were replaceable, disposable. As if they never mattered.
The Moon has returned to world that acted ungrateful for what they had done to protect it. To a world who simply replaced them for another.
They felt like all they did was for nothing. Like nothing they had done ever mattered in the end.
The Moon did not have a welcomed return. And they decided to express it alone, as if nobody would care to comfort them.
-
Arthur never believed in ghosts. Not until now as he gazed upon the spirit of the moon who had taken the form of a small child with a wisp for a tail and was crying moonstones.
The seafolk had all voiced their guilt on how they cursed at the humans and aliens, speaking how the spirit of the moon would enact their revenge. They felt guilty that they had ever thought their deity would ever stoop as low as those disgraceful humans. For their deity was kind. They were perfect. And they always looked after them when they could, even appearing in the day no matter how much strength it took.
The Ocean was meant to be the Moon's temple.
And as the King of the Ocean, it was his duty to take in the Moon and shelter them in their time of need.
"Child."
The child jumped, turning with wide, teary eyes at him. Arthur smiled gently.
"Greetings. I've heard that you've been here for a while now. It... it must've hurt badly."
The child seemed to have a flash of pain from the memory alone, tightening their arms around their wispy tail.
"What they did to you was unacceptable and inhumane. You were alive and looking after so many who could not save themselves."
More stones splashed into the water.
"You saved them, save everyone and they repaid that by hurting you. Killing you. Attempting to end you. It was a crime and yet... yet they got off light. It was a crime and they thought nothing of it."
The spirit relaxed, eyes gazing at him in disbelief and awe.
"I'm sorry we weren't able to save you. I'm sorry I couldn't prevent such a blasphemous act."
They smiled softly at him and let go of their tail, flying over to him.
"I'm still here." Their voice echoed. "I can still protect everyone."
Arthur took a breath and reached his hand out, placing it on the child's head.
"Please, let me do the protecting this time."
The child of the moon teared up once more, smile now shaky.
"Okay." They whispered. "I'll trust you."
And with that, the child shined just a bit more brightly before their form retreated into a spherical oval with the New Moon glyph floating inside. He cupped his hands together, letting the moonstone with the height of 2 quarters and the width and depth of 1 descend into them. Upon observation, he noticed the moon glyph shift to always present itself in the direction of those who gazed upon them.
"I have to report this to the league." Arthur thought, worried about what they'd do if they discover the spirit on their own.
-
Pain, that was all he felt. Even after his core had been carved and crushed, he still felt the excruciating agony of it. And now he revived again, feeling the aftershocks, the phantom pains.
His core was straining itself to even let him stay out of it, willing him to retreat. But he couldn't risk being found. He couldn't risk a curious person deciding to carve him again.
That was... until this man came. A hero, one that ruled over the oceans and seas, came to him and apologized for not saving him. someone who wasn't even close to him, who shouldn't have even known about him, had felt guilty about his death. And he stayed and he begged for him to come with him. He bled out the promise of safety. Of recognition. He... wanted to protect Danny.
A hero who protected the beings of his waters wanted to protect him, a ghost.
Danny was starting to think humans really were inferior to other beings. Be it aliens... or seafolk. Atlanteans. Ha! To think an Atlantean cared more about him, who was a half human and human ghost, than a human ever could.
It hurt.
It hurt to think about.
But it hurt more to try to reject it. So, he accepted that this stranger, this hero who probably didn't even believe he could exist, was willing to protect him like nobody ever had. Like nobody ever could. Like nobody ever would.
His core will be safe with him. He will be safe with him.
---------------
A/n: Well... that was a thing. Poor Danny.... He was never actually acknowledged. But oh well. The next one's about him meeting the family and getting coddled.
Also, if you're thinking about the movie's Aquaman having a baby... well he's dead. Black Manta killed him through suffocation or whatever like the wiki says. So that's why he wasn't mentioned.

Hello! You are (probably) wrong about Messianic "Judaism"
You have probably been referred here because you were making some awful arguments about Messianic "Judaism".
That's ok, that's why you're here.
How in depth do you want me to go?
One sentence
Messianic "Jews", "Jews" for Jesus, and other movements like that are not Jewish, they are Christian.
Two sentences
Messianic "Jews", "Jews" for Jesus, and other movements like that are not Jewish, they are Christian. They may sincerely believe they are Jewish, and they may look superficially Jewish, but they are still Christian.
A paragraph
Messianic "Jews" and other movements that claim to be Jewish but believe Jesus was the Messiah are not Jewish. They are Christian. They may sincerely believe that they are Jewish, but that doesn't change it. If I sincerely believe that I am, say, Muslim, that does not make me Muslim. They believe that Jesus was the Messiah, and Judaism does not. They are Christians roleplaying as Jews.
Questions
But there are Jewish athiests!
Yes. But Jewish atheists and agnostics are generally honest about it. Judaism is flexible on the degree of belief in God you need. It is not flexible on Jesus not being the Messiah. (Plus, athiests haven't genocided us for coming up on 2000 years, so they have a degree of goodwill Christians don't have as much of.)
But Chabad--
[Edit: This originally said the group of Chabadniks who think their Rebbe was the Messiah were not Jewish.]
The Chabadniks who think their Rebbe was the Messiah are still Jewish, but Messianics are not. Why?
First, consider degree of departure. Beliefs about the Messiah are important in Judaism, certainly; but not as much as monotheism. Allegedly, one Rabbi in Talmud, Elisha ben Abuya, questioned the monotheistic aspect, and henceforth he was referred to as 'Acher' (Other). The Sh'ma affirms the monotheistic aspect of Judaism. Of Rambam's thirteen principles of faith, one deals with the Messiah. Four deal with monotheism in some way or another. From a Jewish view, Christianity is, at best, questionably monotheistic.
Second, the intent differs. Chabad tries to get nonobservant Jews more observant (even with a few quirks in religious practice). Messianic Christianity tries to pull Jews away from Judaism.
Finally, of course, how widespread the thing is varies. In Chabad, it is a minor group, and certainly not a core tenet. In Messianic Christianity, it is a core tenet of it and indeed a major distinguishing aspect from Jewish denominations.
But they must have some merit! If they didn't believe Jesus was the Messiah--
And if my grandma had wheels, she'd be a wagon.
How can it be this simple?
Christianity (regardless of how much they fight over it) is fundamentally a broad group. It's easily broad enough to include Messianic Christians without blinking.
You're anti-Messianic practices!
I am, yes. I am against the lying and misrepresentation their liturgy, beliefs, etc consist of. I am against the image of Judaism they project. If they stopped pretending to be Jewish (or converted to actual Judaism), I would have no problem with them. But, again: if Grandma had wheels, she'd be a wagon. A fundamental part of Messianic Christianity is pretending to be Jewish by culturally appropriating Jewish practices, which is very sketchy given that Christians have consistently genocided Jews, including forcibly converting us.
Jews: if you see someone insistent Messianic Christianity is Judaism, feel free to direct them here!

i love that utena's idea of a brother is so similar to her idea of the prince. she calls out touga and akio for not acting like a brother should. but utena is an only child. her idea of a brother is as nebulous as her idea of the prince, with the reality being so much more complex and rooted in a power dynamic that is less about protection than control.

OR maybe we’re just pissed because you think you don’t have to respect others’ beliefs and you genuinely think religion should not exist which is an inherently bigoted take
this isn’t some big conspiracy where everyone is mad they can’t control you, everyone is mad at you because you can’t muster up basic respect for the diversity of beliefs that people have on this huge diverse planet
and the fact you’re so willing to paint everyone as being obsessed with controlling you and that they believe their “one true religion is 100% correct” sounds like projection on your part, YOU are the one wishing to exert control over others
being an atheist is perfectly fine because people should get to have control over their own lives, antitheism IS NOT fine because AGAIN people should get to have control over their own lives
