there are so many factors at play here but i’m going to have to agree. i can tell they’re doing this in a haha i hate film bros kind of way but i think they’re objectively right. i’m not really good at media analysis so at the risk of sounding like those people on tik tok trying to predict the plot of euphoria season 2, here are some of my thoughts

for one thing, the ability to rewatch a show is important to me.

glee is extremely rewatchable, however i will skip seasons 4&5 every time because they came from the most diabolical crevices of ryan murphy’s mind. there are story lines i’ve forgotten about or jokes i didn’t remember that entertain me in new ways every time i watch. i watch it in order because it makes the most sense to do so and just enjoy myself along the way.

breaking bad is good, but is not as rewatchable to me. i’ve tried to rewatch it but end up getting bored because i already know what happens. while there are great moments, i find myself just looking forward to those moments when i’m watching rather than unexpected moments in between. i like watching videos that analyze themes or characters in the show and give me new perspective on what i’ve already seen, or i’ll go back and watch specific episodes, but i don’t feel the need to rewatch each episode in serial fashion. i rewatch the fly episode specifically—it’s literally just walt trying to kill a fly in the meth lab for 40 minutes. that’s it. there’s some symbolism there but objectively it’s absurd and that’s what i love about it.

sue sylvester is reason enough to make it a better show overall.

there’s so much lore to come out of glee and things people STILL talk about. the amount of horrible musical numbers. the great musical numbers (smooth criminal, bohemian rhapsody with cuts to quinn in labor [iconic decision to do that and i still think about it], rose’s turn, and a lot more). lea michele allegedly not being able to read. there basically being no difference between lea michele and rachel berry. matthew morrison. need i say more.

i love breaking bad. i love the story it told, i love jesse pinkman and i would fight anyone for him, i love that bryan cranston can play the dad from malcolm in the middle and walter white and be amazing at both, i love the absurdity mixed with very serious dark themes. however, it can be a lot to take in too. it can be really violent out of nowhere. you get used to it after awhile but if you really can’t stand that kind of stuff, don’t watch it.

people make shitposts about breaking bad but those usually come with some creativity from the shitposter. glee is 6 seasons of pure shitpost.

also mike’s mic has an amazing analysis of glee (and is working on part 2). does he have a breaking bad analysis. no.

while breaking bad will be famous for objectively amazing acting and telling a great story, glee was an absolute cultural phenomenon. it’s a comedy, it’s a melodrama, it’s an absolute shitshow. i relate way more to people who watch glee than people who watch breaking bad because those people are usually obsessed with pop culture and enjoy things that are cringey and occasionally just plain garbage.

Reservoir Dogs (1992) - Movie Review / Fancast

I watched Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs for the first time tonight. (By the time I finished this, it is actually DAYS later) Remember all of the things stated in this review are my PERSONAL opinion.

Let's talk about Reservoir Dogs, because I enjoyed this film much more than I thought I would.

So, being completely transparent, I accidentally spoiled myself ten minutes in when I went to search which color Tim Roth was playing. Regardless, I enjoyed the film.

I thought the latter half of the movie was more entertaining, with the inclusion of Joe and Eddie and the more in-depth looks into White, Blonde, and Orange.

I'm not very good at serious movie reviews and don't take movies all that seriously anyways, so I am comfortable admitting that Mr. Orange was a big selling point for me. I very much enjoyed the close-up of him smirking. It really felt like a tragic love story at some parts, I was rooting for Orange and Mr. White.

Now on to the more entertaining part, let's recast. Pictures at the end.

We'll start with Mr. White. Originally played by Harvey Keitel, I think Jason Bateman would be an exceptional recast. He does serious, as Ozark proves, he does comedically dramatic, he is dilf material, and I don't think they look UNALIKE... there are some similarities that caught my eye. Honorable mention goes to a man of the same name, Mr. White, Bryan Cranston.

Mr. Pink feels like a no-brainer. Originally played by Steve Buscemi, who else other than Bill Skarsgard. Mr. Pink is slimy and he has awful posture and, for some reason, that reminded me of the very handsome Bill Skarsgard. He will never escape the typecast. For as long as I can remember, Roman Godfrey to Pennywise to that dude in Barbarian... they're all shady as fuck.

You know who else is shady as fuck? Mr. Blonde. Michael Madsen is the original Mr. Blonde and he brings such a specific energy to Blonde. I found it hard to find a good match. Looks-wise, Richard Madden. Though, in general, I think Vincent Cassel would be a very creepy, very sexy Blonde and if you've seen that scene in Ocean's Twelve, you'd know the "Stuck In The Middle With You" scene is in good hands.

I reluctantly add this next one. "Nice Guy" Eddie, played by Chris Penn, is being recast to probably my least favorite actor of all time, Jonah Hill. Fuck, it just works so well.

You know that cop, Martin whatever? Yeah, he's now Rami Malek. This is payback for being in Amsterdam.

Tim Roth, the reason I knew the plot of the entire movie before watching it, I fucking love your face man. Mr. Orange is now fan-cast as Andy Bean. Completely self-indulgent. Though, past Gee apparently thought Joesph Gorden-Levitt was a good contender because his name is very bold in my notes. Also, self-indulgent.

Randy Brook's Holdaway would be brilliantly played by Brian Tyree Henry. If you've seen Bullet Train, he is fucking incredible.

For Joe, originally played by Lawernce Tierney, I give thee Brian Cox of the Logan Roy variety. Or Vincent D'Onofrio of the Marvel supervillain variety.

Moving on to Mr. Brown, I could not decide. Give my dude Jake Sim a couple of years and he's perfect. I also have Michael C. Hall, Matt Berry, and Mark Sheppard. I don't guess it really matters as long as they can deliver an entire speech about Madonna's Like A Virgin and make it as disgusting as possible.

Before researching, I had wanted Edward Bunker's Mr. Blue to be Danny Trejo. Here's a fact I learned while researching for this review, Bunker and Trejo actually served jail time together. Small world. Oh, and Bob Odenkirk was the runner-up for Mr. Blue. I love that man.

Shit, I think that's it. Now I have to go make a collage of all these actors.

It’s not even anything bad. I promise,” or earn him any points with his brother waiting in the wings outside with his own responsibilities. Skull could bleed out in the gutter and Stan would be just as unimpressed as the month Skull had to learn how to ride a bike without training wheels on his own--which was...whatever. It was kind of sweet of Kim to freak out over the way the blood gushed out of Skull’s nose, trying to staunch the bleeding with one of the towels Tommy had been using to mop up his sweat that the young man with the ponytail offered up first thing when he got off the mat, but Skull waved them off. “If you could follow me outside? Just Tommy, guys, sorry; but this is private.” * Blood in the water, a bird killed in a magic trick, being possessed by a demon. All of these things were probably better than Stan Skullovitch laughing at his younger brother’s misfortune just after he introduced David and Tommy to each other with about as much subtlety and grace as Mephisto reminding Faust just how fucked he was. “Well, I suppose that’s one way to do your duty and get the job done, little-little brother.” When the elder Skullovitch made to poke at the ribs Skull was trying to cover with his arm, Skull surprised even himself when his other hand flashed out and caught the fingers in a vice; they popped at the knuckles and Stan lit up a cigarette as the two of them listened to Tommy freak out as David spoke the truth. “Hm. Touchy.” * Between the anxiety and the curiosity. Between the meeting and the cooldown. Between the comfortable lie and the hard truth... Apparently Skull passed out in Ms. Appleby’s class and had to be taken to the hospital while Tommy ducked out of school at the same time to find his brother (that was so weird, and no matter how much comfort his friends tried to give him, it would be weird for a while; his mom only caved because Skull’s terrifying brother dropped by to call her a coward and remind her that if Tommy didn’t have the facts, it made him half a person) at the Skullovitch house.  He raised his hand to knock on the door, but found the Skull’s brother opening it for him before Tommy’s knuckles even touched the wood. He left it wide as he walked by Tommy down the steps, keys spinning in their loop around his finger as he called over his shoulder without looking back. “He’s in the kitchen making tea. Make sure he drinks at least two cups with honey added while you talk about lost time and being a Ranger, and how the Morphin Grid led him here.” There was no room, in-between the words hitting Tommy like a semi at hundreds of miles an hour and the man taking off in his car, waving ‘bye’ with placid lack of care. Tommy just stood in the doorway for about a minute, in the threshold of much more than a house, before he took a breath and stepped forward into the unknown. * Stan returned to the house, hours later, unsurprised to find the two light hearted, good natured brothers still in his kitchen. The White Light itself placed over David like an aura only a trained Guide eye could see; Tommy’s Green a fluttering glow like a butterfly on a patch of clover. The eldest would have been happy to duck out of sight and out of mind, tend to himself in the bathroom upstairs; leave them to their talking and getting comfortable with each other... but he stepped on a creaky floorboard and both of them had pretty good reflexes. Whatever. (David would putter around the kitchen, asking where Stan got the shiner and why his clothes were all wet; getting nothing for his concern but a basic, creepy smile that he would eventually come to recognize as Stan’s gentle way of saying, ‘None of your business/concern’ or ‘It’s taken care of’ without words. Tommy would find out later from Kim and the Stone Canyon Trio, that--on a rare truce due to mutual rage and worry--when Stan got to the hospital, Billy and Bulk were waiting there. Both having realized that Skull was suffering internal bleeding from taking a hit from one of Tommy’s flying kicks in order to secure a victory on the mats. It became something of a bonding exercise for Tommy and David; keeping the Blue Ranger and the third Guide among them from being especially petty towards David’s Guide as often as they would have liked.)

A story involving me and candy I like: I used to love White Rabbit candy. When I was in high school (I think) I had a whole bag of it next to my bed. My bedroom was in the basement, and at some point the whole thing hardened into something inedible and/or I got so sick of it that I haven’t eaten any since. Although, I did have a white rabbit candy-flavoured ice cream from Wong’s Ice Cream much more recently. It was really good!! And they have vegan and gluten-free flavours too!!

If I could make a national or worldwide whatever day to celebrate something (e.g., Cat Day, Pancake Day etc.), what would it be? Comic Arts Day!

The Echo Game (House of Flying Daggers soundtrack) - it sounds badass and I like it when I’m working on/imagining fight sequences

To Die For (The Birthday Massacre) - it’s cool but not in your face, great music when I’m drawing or writing. And the lyrics are very evocative, so if I happen to pause and actually pay attention to them, it’s fantastic mood and inspiration.

A memory from a trip I really enjoyed: Going to Tamsui/Danshui with my mom the first time I returned to Taiwan as an adult. It was just a really lovely day trip that started off with one of the best meals ever, and strolling down the Old Street and drawing the views of the river and people-watching and listening to the security guard telling stories and watching the sun set. 

Dream job: I didn’t change (I MEAN, ADJUST) this question because it actually made me reflect quite a bit. I used to say something ridiculous here, like travelling Taiwan eating food while drawing Yu Yu Hakusho doujinshi, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure I would want that to be my job even jf it were possible. In all honesty I’d say my dream job is one where I...

Work with people I like.

Have positive engagement - interest, enjoyment, achievement - the majority of the time. (Because even things I love can still frustrate me to the extreme, like art.)

Have, and am encouraged to have, the energy, passion, flexibility and time to work on my personal projects - art, comics, fandom, etc.

In short, I'm incredibly fortunate and privileged to be able to say I have my dream job right now. Everyone is different, but I personally don't relish the idea of having my own creative projects tied to the pressure of making money or being judged by other people's values of what is worthwhile. And I don't know if I'd love doing it all the time. Burnout is very real, and working in an industry where I do work with other creatives, plus my own hobby, I know so many professionals who almost never have the time or energy for their own projects. 

My thoughts and feelings on this matter may change, but as I’ve written on this topic before, I've felt this way since I first realized what it was that I actually love about the things I love when I was in high school. And for me, that answer wasn’t “do it on demand" nor “have my livelihood rely on it”.
