My First Writeblr- An Introduction
I’ve used tumblr on and off for over ten years but wanted a blank slate now in time for NaNoWriMo 2023 and all the future writing projects I’m devoting myself to. Also highly inspired by all the cool writing blogs I’ve discovered so far since restarting this account <3
About Me:
My name is Char or Charlotte (she/her), I’m 24 and live in the Pacific Northwest in the US
I write literary fiction now, but have kept up various personal essay projects and poetry over the years primarily through my private newsletter!
I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Lit with a soft spot for the Gothic and Romantic eras.
Nothing published yet, but since I am finally out of school I am entering a new phase of creative freedom that feels very encouraging.

Project Amgydala (tentative title: Ballad of a Blue Whale) Novella- Literary Fiction/Surrealism Status- Draft 1 complete at around 33,000 words 2024 Goal- First revision/draft 2 Synopsis- Maren Hara, a recent graduate, moves back in with her father and turns completely inward. She removes herself from the life she created throughout university and begins walking from sunset to sunrise, looking for something she cannot put her finger on. This leads her to Devereaux's Salvation, a jazz bar seemingly from another era, whose eager manager and illusive owner begin to crack through Maren's walls and bring her back into humanity.

Project Corvidae (tentative title: I Want to Build a Home with You) Undetermined- Literary Fiction/Light Mystery/Horror Status- Plotting and beginning first draft 2024 Goal- Complete outlines and give draft 1 my best shot Synopsis- In the wake of the death of her family matriarch, portrait painter and former performance art prodigy Leonie Richards finds herself on the receiving end of her grandmothers vast literary legacy and her eclectic, spirit filled home. Alongside her uncle, the art store clerk, and a host of portrait clients she begins to unlock the secrets of the final years of her grandmother's life.

Light body horror, unsettling women, the works. One of These Nights- a slice of life, Murakami-inspired piece of an American expat living in Tokyo trying to ground herself within a new language. Digs into themes of friendship and social anxiety. Lots of fun music cameos. a green pea moon- my FAVORITE. My little baby. A surrealist romp through the dream world and how it relates to the joy and fear of being queer and letting yourself be loved. Near and dear to my heart.

- A model student. Has 4 afterschool clubs. He's a painter in Art Club on Mondays. At Archery club on Tuesdays. In Drama Club on Wednesdays. A Pianist and Violinist at the school's string orchestra on Thursdays.
- A quiet and cool guy, people are amazed and afraid of him. (Who handles 4 clubs and still has time to study?) He's an Art Major, enjoying the fine arts in all forms, but anything with the human form draw him in the most (sculptures, portraits).
- A loner that enjoys having his lunch alone and club activities alone. He doesn't have any friends or is part of any clique. Devoted to his clubs and his studies.
- Classy and neat. His uniform is always crisp. His stationary packed away neatly. (He uses a 4b pencil). His skin also surprisingly smooth, he has a four step skincare routine.
- Not really the kind to care much about others and their opinions, he is aloof in the sense of he is here for himself. To enjoy his art to his lofty goals and finish what is needed of him of school.

- If you were to confess first, it would have to be in a romantic letter in his locker or four roses on his table with a note. Something artistic and beautiful to catch his attention or he wouldn't even consider.
- As you confess your affections to him after school and after his club activities, he would smile coldly, neither smug nor affectionate. " I will consider this." He exchanges his contact details with you.
- He would put in a little effort, replying as you talk to him. However, privately on his end he would do his own research about you, what clubs were you in, who were your friends, how were your grades, what were you like online. Only if they pique his interest or satisfy his expectations will he finally start putting in effort.
- If he confesses to you first, it is because he noticed you in the audience, you were beautiful and always watching his best work, who were you? An interest into an obsession, he would confess with chocolates and a poem on your desk, inviting you to meet him after school at 4pm on the roof where he waits playing the violin to serenade you with.

- When he does fall for you though he falls HARD. Waiting for you after class. Watching over you around school. Buying you gifts, leaving post-it sketches of you in your textbooks. Bringing you out on fancy dates. An interest now Obsession. You were as important to him as his art now.
- If you were to watch him do his club activities after school, his cold heart would melt, if you can appreciate his various forms of art and understand him you would be perfect. All he wants is someone to support his endeavors.
- After a while he would affectionally call you his muse, paintings inspired by your beauty, his music and acting more passionate when you're in the audience. You inspire him. Even more so if you were an artist yourself, critique each others work, doing duets or collabs. He loves just how much you spark his creativity.
- He may be obsessive but he is undeniably romantic and loving. A loving touch as his adjusts your hair, making sure you are always perfect. A soft kiss in the empty halls late after club as he sends you home to make sure you're safe. Anniversaries and special dates all celebrated with romantic dates and personal gifts. A reassuring hug to comfort any of your troubles. " I love you y/n" sweet whispers between class.
- When the time comes to graduate he would have already told you his school or work goals, hoping you'd either follow him or support him if you can't.

Title: How to Draw [Yandere Feitan x Reader]
Synopsis: You like to draw, even now that you’re a captive of a man named Feitan. You like to draw lots of things, but most of all, you like to draw yourself getting revenge on him.

It calms you down to draw him. It shouldn't. Because what you’re drawing is not something safe. You're not drawing still-lifes (though what, in the dreary place you're kept in, you'd ever want to draw in still-life escapes you) or even sketches of your captor caught in those mundane moments at the breakfast table or staring out the window on a rainy afternoon.
No, no, no.
What you're drawing are vivid, terrible little doodles of yourself enacting sweet revenge that will never pass on him. Some are mere scribbles, but lately, you’ve found yourself getting more detailed. Why not, after all, when you’re already doing something monumentally risky?
In each drawing you make sure to emphasize his short stature, because you know for a fact that he hates your own height over him. You're a head taller than him or so, and maybe that's why he's always telling you to sit down, pulling you to his level with clenched fists. To keep you beneath him physically, and not just mentally. 
You only show him the drawings that are safe. The drawings you do of imagined scenes in the outdoors, or scenes from your previous life. All of that seems so distant now.
Would he kill you, if he found your notebook filled with these terrible, no-good, get-you-in-trouble-someday doodles? 
You think about it, sometimes, while you draw. It seems to propel your hands faster, boost the creative juices in  your mind. Oh yes. He would do awful things if he saw you now, arching your wrist just so, all in order to get the angle on his broken arm perfectly right. 
You should stop. You know you should. You should flush the drawings down the toilet or eat them, anything to dispose of the evidence. But you can’t. The thought makes you feel sick, sicker than the dread of being caught some day. Because the drawings really do make you feel calmer; they give you something to hold onto, something to ground you. They keep you from completely floating away in the hellhole you’re stuck in.
And you need that security. You really do.
You reach for your smudger and decide to add some shading to your current doodle. You wonder if someday you’ll graduate to full fledged portrait sketches of these scenes. Maybe you could even ask for paints.
The ridiculous thought makes you smile, and it’s a smile that lasts only for a fraction of a moment, because then there’s the sensation of heaviness looming over you. Over you and behind you.
Where Feitan is now standing.
You don’t turn around.  You don’t think you can manage it, with the sudden fear that has frozen your muscles. But you can see his face in your mind, deceptively neutral. As if he didn’t just tumble on you fucking up royally. 
He walks around you and takes a seat on the sofa next to you, casual--calm--as anything. He’s not wearing his cowl, which is better and worse, and you can’t decide which notion wins in the end--not wanting to see his expression and being left in the dark, or being forced to take in the expressions you’ve come to hyper-analyze for your own sanity.
He holds out his hands and you hand over the notebook with shaking fingers. This must be what rabbits feel when the metal trap springs on them, you think. You’re so stuffed with terror that nothing else computes; no solid thoughts come, only fear, and blood rushing in your ears. 
Feitan is thinking, though.  You can see it written all over his face as he analyzes your work-in-progress, a neat little picture where you’re breaking his arm with your favorite pair of boots (sadly left to rot, like all your other things, in your apartment); he doesn’t stop there, and he begins to flip through the pages of your insidious notebook.
His eyes widen just a tad. One of his fingers traces several of your figures on the page, in all your taller-than-him glory. There’s something almost sickly tender about the way his finger slowly trails one of your cheeks. 
“Doesn’t look much like you,” he says, murmuring. 
Your mouth is suddenly, impossibly dry. Your tongue sticks to the roof when you stutter out, “N…no?” 
There’s the smallest quirk of his mouth. 
“N-No,” he mocks. Then he adds, in a thoughtful voice that takes you by surprise, “You’re cuter than this.”
Oh.
“Thank you, Feitan” you say, mechanically. Mind numb, body number.
“Cute,” he repeats. The word hangs in the air for a moment, and you almost enjoy the brief interlude between simple fear and whatever is going to come next. “And stupid,” he adds, with a teasing heaviness that finally makes your legs feel like liquefied lead. 
Your ears register the sound of him ripping the pages before you see him do it, his fingers curling and crumpling them in an almost petulant manner, before he tosses the offending images to the ground. Your thinned-out notepad lands on the coffee table with a hiss, almost skidding off the table. 
It’s surprisingly gradual, the way that the air seems to thicken with his anger. Gradual and dark and foreboding in all the worst ways; in all the ways that activate your body’s primal reactions, your heart racing, fear pumping through your veins. It’s almost dizzying, the way your body primes itself to run away from the instinctive danger next to you.
But you don’t run, no matter how much your body tells you to; no matter how much every nerve screams to flee. 
Your brain, what little part of it had any common sense at all, overrode that instinct. If you ran from him… if you ran from him, well. You knew it would be worse. 
“What are you going to do?” You ask. Your mouth, it seems, did not get the memo about common sense. 
Your answer is the sudden removal of your glasses, yanked away in a motion so swift you couldn’t see it. You hear the crunching of the glass--hear it, because the world is now a frustrating blur, and the weight of this new, additional helplessness in Feitan’s presence sits low in your stomach.
But you know that isn’t it. It can’t be. Not with the heaviness in the air, with this dark expression--muted, maybe, to people who didn’t know him like you did. 
“Should thank you,” he says, voice close to a whisper, far too jovial for the anger he must be feeling.
“Your drawing gave me some ideas.”

📸Want to do cosplay photoshoots but don't know how to find that perfect place to shoot? This tutorial covers how to brainstorm a location for your shoot, logistical and cost concerns with shoot locations, and how to actually find your dream location.
📸This tutorial can be applied to shoots of all types, including but not limited to self shoots, shoots with friends, and shoots with hired photographers. Self shooting or shooting with friends only requires a camera (a phone works!) and possibly a tripod.
Part 2: Finding Locations
Now that you have a shoot concept in mind, it's time to find the location itself. If you don't already have a location in mind, you will need to do some searching to find one.
The Detective Work
Whether you have a type of location in mind or not, you can poke around online to find the ideal place. If you have a type of location in mind, Google Maps or similar can help you find locations if you search for your location type, such as "beach." If you don't have a location type in mind, you can look around at websites like Atlas Obscura or at your local parks district websites. If looking to rent a location or use an indoor location, Peerspace is a site where you can rent photography studios and event spaces, often with equipment of their own for you to borrow, and you can usually shoot in hotel rooms or Airbnbs if that suits your character. If you are out of ideas, look around at what other people in your area use. Other cosplayers are a great resource, but I also recommend looking for engagement photos or graduation photos in your area for ideas on where non-cosplay photographers shoot. Finally, there's a tool called Cos-Map that contains user-submitted locations and detailed discovery tools; it doesn't have a lot of use yet because it is still in beta, so if you have locations to submit, please do so and help other cosplayers!

Brainstorming
​When brainstorming your location types, think of all aspects of the character, series, and your shoot goals and try to match these aspects to real-life locations. I've also worked backwards a few times and chosen one character over another on my list of possible cosplays because I had a shoot location already in mind! Knowing who the character is, what genre of series and shoot you want, and where the series takes place can help you to find somewhere that your character looks good in.
I also have here a list of location types that you may find helpful, and hopefully it includes types of locations you hadn't thought of. This isn't exhaustive, and not all these location types exist in all areas, but this is to give you a jumping off point for thinking of your cosplay shoot locations. Locations like studio shoots, a beach, or a forest may seem obvious, but also look at places like local tourist attractions, areas with graffiti on the walls,  and keep an eye out for any selfie museums in your area or touring pop-up museums for unique cosplay shoot locations.
As always, check the rules of anywhere you shoot, and be sure to get permission to shoot there. Part 4 covers this process in more depth.
Getting Creative
If you really can't find a location that suits your character, get creative! You can do anything from a printed backdrop or solid color drape shoot in your own home to a shoot against a cool-looking wall. Often, tighter framing works best with this type of shoot, as you only want to showcase the area directly around you and not the full area that may not be suitable. A wall or some hedges work well for medium shot distance portraits, and some ground or a piece of furniture work well for reclining shots. You may only be able to get a few photos with this type of background, depending on what the background and cosplay are, but if you want to show off a costume now and get a different type of photoshoot later, you can.

Painting
The waxflowers were blooming, filling the halls with a gentle, pleasant smell. Loid was arranging dried flowers in a vase, he was most at peace when allowed to fuss with the small things. The afternoon sun was gently dancing in his hair, creating a radiant halo around his head. He was beautiful.
Before Loid had entered his life, Albrecht never saw the worth in fragrances or decorations or the art of flower arrangement. Perhaps it was yet another fault of his - frigid pragmatism. They both agreed on the merits of the written word, yet Loid also had an eye for the visual arts, thus Albrecht had allowed him to express himself in the Necralisk. Perhaps he liked seeing little reminders of Loid everywhere he went, a selfish indulgence Albrecht allowed himself.
"Loid." The moment his name escaped Albrecht's lips, Loid turned his head, dried rose still in hand.
"Yes?"
"Have you ever sat for a painting?"
Loid smiled, then uttered something under his breath. Not offended, but amused.
"I am not nearly important enough for anyone to desire to capture my likeness. Is this about the commission?"
Not quite. The true purpose of Albrecht's question was to stay hidden, for now.
"Yes," Albrecht decided to move the conversation along. "I cannot seem to decide which artist to pursue, perhaps you could help me with that. I was thinking of either Polonia or Timofei."
Hearing Polonia's name made Loid grimace, but he quickly composed himself and returned to finishing the flower arrangement, clearly a way for him to pretend to be mulling over the question, but Albrecht knew which choice would be made before a single word was said.
"Polonia is an excellent wildlife artist. The birds she paints are one of a kind and her use of color is creative, however..." then came the truth. "Her figures are gaudy, exaggerated and occasionally lean into the pornographic. I am afraid she might take some creative liberties while painting you and then we will end up with wasted money and a worthless painting."
Polonia was an eccentric, that much was true. An old family friend of the Entratis, Albrecht kept contact with her for only one purpose - she knew people in less than polite circles, which often proved valuable when procuring reagents for some of Albrecht's more alchemical experiments. She would not ask questions and never kept a paper trail. Unfortunately, she was also an Orokin eccentric and harbored a disdain for Loid, which he was not afraid of returning.
In the name of objectivity, however, Albrecht had to weigh all the options that were offered to him.
"Timofei is the better option. He is classically trained, he has painted portraits for the Galleria before," Loid pointed at a painting mounted on the wall. "He is reliable."
Albrecht turned to face the painting Loid had pointed at. Euleria's graduation portrait. Timofei excelled at accentuating his subjects in a way that was true to life, yet also had an air of uniqueness that couldn't be captured neither by photograph or hologram. His daughter, ever the critic, tormented the painter at every step of the process, yet he endured with reserved professionalism.
Truth be told, Albrecht had no interest in being painted, yet the Galleria demanded a painting of him. His great scientific achievements beckoned to be immortalized as oil on canvas, that's what the Archimedeans told him. At least he had Loid to help him with the headache of picking an artist.
"Call Timofei. Have him come as soon as possible."
"Of course."

The doors to the Sanctum rumbled as the Tenno returned from their mission. Another Netracell run, with Tagfer leading the squad. Loid was already used to the routine, his assistance was not needed so he could busy himself with other tasks.
"Loid!"
He turned his head. Artemis was floating nearby and holding something that looked like a folder.
"What is it?"
"Viri wanted you to have this. Knowing her, a bunch of sentimental junk."
Loid took the folder from the Wisp and looked over it. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, just a standard folder for keeping documents.
"Viri was so excited to show you this. I didn't even look inside, I don't care!" Artemis declared. Loid secretly appreciated her disinterest - he had heard his fair share of snappy comments and had no interest in finding out what creative epithets Artemis may conjure this time.
"Thank you, Artemis."
"Don't mention it," she floated off, joined her squad and the Tenno left for another round of Netracells.
Loid was curious, yet also scared. The Netracells were treasure troves of Albrecht's most personal possessions. Things that were so close and personal to him even Loid was not allowed to see inside.
It was just a folder, Loid told himself. It was light, so probably only a couple documents inside. Maybe another collection of poems Albrecht had written and then tossed away in self-critical shame.
The Tenno occasionally brought some of Albrecht's personal affects that they deemed Loid might find interest in. They were mostly related either to him, Euleria or literature. Nothing Loid didn't know about, just things he was surprised Albrecht bothered to keep.
Inside the folder was a single page. It was a sketch - of Loid. Drawn in the middle of a motion - he was reaching for something out of bounds of the canvas. Around his figure a mixture of flowers were hastily scribbled, Albrecht was not particularly good at natural objects. Yet Loid's face was lovingly rendered, a halo was carefully drawn around him. At the bottom of the page was what Loid assumed to be the title of the illustration - three times crossed out, four times rewritten. The fourth title simply said: Loid. Unlike the previous titles, it was carefully calligraphed. The final choice.

How children and aging are depicted in LittleBigPlanet + Sackboy's canonical age
I've been wanting to write this post for a while now! This topic i find rather interesting as i'm in that turning point in life of being a newborn adult lol
I'm going to apologize beforehand though for my lack of knowledge about LBP PS Vita in case it had some relevancy to this post. It is the only full release i haven't played :( I'd also like the apologize for the strange pacing in this post- there's a lot to go through and otherwise I'd never get it done.
Do sackpeople age?
Yeah!
Perhaps the earliest* and obvious example are the child portrait stickers of the Creator Curators in LBP2. Most of them (aside from Eve) are used in the first proper level Rookie Test, in pictures of Larry giving flowers to Victoria and Avalon, Clive and Higginbotham graduating. In LBP3, there's a sticker of Newton as a baby in Nana Pud's hands. Sackboy: A Big Adventure has a prequel comic called "The Gathering Storm" starring Scarlet which depicts her as a child.
What do sackfolk look like growing up?
Considering baby Newton fit into Nana Pud's already small hands, babies must be really tiny.
SABA has the first example of a child in the games physically with the Death Stranding costume. Baby...

*So this means that the Mini Sackboy item from LBP1 is a baby... (Yeah, it's not a plush. It's alive. It blinks.)

It's a fact that sackpeople use their children as fashion accessories. How delightful yet incredibly strange!

Child Scarlet is a little shorter than the shoulders of a standard sackperson. (She's the only example we have, so excuse the brevity... well there's Hildur, but I'm not sure if she counts as a sackling)
What about a teenager?
As previously established, there is a portrait of Avalon, Clive and Higginbotham graduating, though it's not specified whether they're graduating from high school or college, which would make them either roughly teenagers or young adults at that time. Clive is shorter than the other two in the past yet is about their height in-game, so it's more likely they were teenagers and Clive hit his growth spurt after graduation. A series of promotional videos released for LBP1 called "Life in LittleBigPlanet" state that a fully grown Sackperson is 8 centimeters tall.
Newton is said to have flunked out of the Popit Academy after one semester. Completing term 1 of Popit Puzzles will land you this neat graduation outfit.

It's also unspecified in-game whether the Popit Academy is a high school or a college, but considering its logo and what was described of Newton, it's definitely a college. (I am unsure of the system in England, but here in the US if you fail a semester of high school you just continue as usual and make up what you missed as additional work, instead of being kicked or dropped out.)
Newton's insecurities lie in his belief that he'll never live up to his father, and flunking out played into that. This is what led up to him wanting to use the Titans, to prove his potential to the world, and letting Bunkum's residents (including himself) make better use of its creativity. Of course there's no time range or limit to attend college, but most people tend to pursue it directly after high school, and coupled with Newton's bruised pride and desperation, let's assume for the sake of this post that Newton attended college straight away and is a young adult.
Most of the other sackling characters can easily be identified as adults or elders.

But what about .... YOU? Or, well, Sackboy... er...
The player vs. the character
It's a bit hard to define the separation of a character that's intended to be an expression of you versus yourself, because that separation is defined by yourself as well.
Let's say that the aspects of Sackboy that AREN'T decided/customized by the player are what is hard canon about him: This includes the official story levels, as you don't have a choice but to proceed, and less noticable things such as his personality and actions in the tutorial videos+ ads, and what's in his wardrobe (which is every single costume piece in the game. doesn't mean he wears it though. I wonder how cold he usually is).
Now, without you, who is Sackboy? He's a heroic sackling that has gone on many death-defying adventures across the globe and beyond. He's silent, gender non conforming and has a neverending amount of PlayStation cosplays. He goofs around with the narrator and knows how to use all game mechanics.
And, without your input, how old is he?
How old is Sackboy?
We've sorta already answered this question.
Sackboy is a physically fully grown sackling, as he is 8 centimeters tall. This would make him a teenager at the very youngest.
He has attended and graduated from Popit Academy, a college, which edges him into potential young adult or just general adult territory. (Teenagers can also attend college of course, but that's less common)
Having mentioned his wardrobe before, he has a lot of things that children typically wouldn't wear, including the aforementioned graduation outfit, facial hair, wedding outfits, fishnets, a speedo...among more

I'm not going to demonstrate this for obvious reasons, but there is even official art of him with genitalia. Go look at Media Molecule's Flickr if you really want to see it. Hell, knowing that and Mm's sense of humor, his name is rather inappropriate too. (I try to ignore this for the sake of my remaining childhood innocence.)
The Twitter is weird
There are a few tweets by the official LittleBigPlanet twitter that "state" Sackboy's age. These are actually referring to the franchise's age at the time they were posted. (Remember that LBP1 was released October 2008 and do some simple math)

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is weird
Sackboy is definitely NOT a child- why, after a decade of this being established, does he sound like one in SABA?
To help explain this decision, this game can be described as a "soft reboot". It doesn't retcon or change anything about the past, but it presents it in a new way for new and/or unfamiliar audiences. (aka marketability.)
Sackboy was completely silent before and now he's shouting "YEAH! WOOHOO!" every 3 seconds. His voice is very high pitched, youthful and would come off to most people as a child's voice.
I tried to look into his voice actor in the past, but the only other thing they are credited for is Tearaway. It's possible they were credited under a pseudonym, but either way we don't know how old they are or how they are typecast.

German Arkadievich Semerov (born 1931) is a Soviet painter. Born on August 9, 1931 in Leningrad. In 1958 he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. C. Repin, Faculty of Painting - Head of Diploma M. P. Bobyshev. The beginning of creative work in 1962. Works in the genres of thematic painting, landscape, still life. After graduating from the institute, he worked at the State Russian Drama Theater (Minsk), taught painting, drawing at the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute. The main themes of the artist's works are historical and revolutionary, military, subjects about the work and life of his contemporaries, portraits. He wrote a number of articles on fine arts for the magazine "Artist", in 1969 the publishing house "Soviet Russia" published his book "Puts to Art". Member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1970. He was elected chairman of the audit commission of the board of the Ministry of Fine Arts (1971-1973), a member of the commission for work in rural areas, a member of the creative group of Podolsk artists, worked in the art council for painting in the Podolsk HPM. The works were purchased by the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the HF of Russia, are in private collections in Russia, Belarus, Germany, the USA, Turkey, France, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria.

I've been drawing my whole life, ever since I can remember basically, and I did go to an art-focused school (for graduation, I had to paint a series of self portraits and it nearly drove me insane 😅). Then life got in the way and I didn't draw or paint as much anymore for years (and only traditional art if I did), but I've always wanted to try digital art, so getting sucked into the Silm fandom and having an urge to draw blorbos (plus some work-related stuff) finally made me buy a graphic tablet. And ever since I've just been trying to get the hang of it, watching tutorials, experimenting with different styles and ways of doing things etc. For my digital art, I use Adobe Photoshop because that's what I'm most familiar with, but I'd also like to try out Procreate one of these days (I have a friend who uses it for her art and she loves it). I use a lot of the brushes that already came with my version of Photoshop, plus a bunch of custom ones that I downloaded from all over the place, often watercolor and charcoal type brushes over solid base layers of color because I like the way they blend.

The final page of the album shows a puppet street performance, Holocaust memorials in Berlin on Cook and Coss's last visit with Lorde, and images celebrating Lorde's legacy after death in 1992.
Curator Victoria Munro writes:
“Powerful and Dangerous: The Images and Words of Audre Lorde” exhibition at the Alice Austen House is a celebration of the radical work of Black, lesbian feminist, writer, activist and poet, Audre Lorde. The exhibition was a collaborative process made with some of Lorde’s closest friends, colleagues, and sister comrades. I was so fortunate to have their guidance in the creation of this exhibition. Two of Lorde’s long-time friends, Blanche Cook and Clare Coss, guided my initial explorations into the personal realm of her writing practice. They welcomed me into their home to view their archive of personal photographs and ephemera which spanned decades of personal celebrations and professional intersections.
Cook, Coss, and I discussed Lorde’s time spent on Staten Island (1972 to 1987) raising her two children, Elizabeth and Jonathan, with her partner Francis Clayton. Cook and Coss illuminated the many wonderful afternoons spent on St. Pauls Avenue and the powerful writing and teaching that Lorde produced during these years. Some of these works included her most celebrated:  From a Land Where Other People Live (1973), The Black Unicorn (1978), The Cancer Journals (1980), and Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches (1984). She also created a new publishing house with activist Barbara Smith called Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press.
The most revelatory object they shared with me was a large album of personal photographs they had created to celebrate Audre’s life when she passed in 1992. Up until this point, the only people that had viewed this album were Lorde’s children. I was so moved by Cook and Coss’s generosity when they allowed me to include this personal memento in the exhibition. The album was frail, and it felt urgent to protect and archive the documents so they could be shared with our audience and future generations.
To make this possible, I decided to create a self-published book that stayed true to the album’s arrangement, placement, and personal notes, and could be touched and shared. The entire album was carefully scanned by our archivist and brought back together digitally to make this a reality.
There are so many connections that these unique images make between lesbian artists, activists, and photographers. These images are essential to understanding the forces of creative collaborations and the lesbian community during that period.
This book represents an intimate portrait of Lorde celebrating her contagious energy, love of people, flirty fun lesbian play, and prolific writing practice.
Cook and Coss wrote this statement to accompany the album:
“Soon after Audre Lorde departed this earth, we found comfort and consolation in the creation of an album of our chosen family, featuring some of the happiest shared moments of our lives together. These snapshots illuminate high-spirited flirty fun gatherings: birthdays, holidays at Audre and Frances’ Staten Island home; romps in the Hamptons; Lesbian and Gay demonstrations in NYC and DC; Audre’s alternative cancer treatment in Berlin; our amazing Hawaii eclipse trip; Audre honored as NY State poet; the last sad loving goodbye days on St. Croix.
This is the first time we have shared this album with the exception of our god-children Elizabeth Lorde-Rollins MD and Jonathan Ashley Rollins. We thank curator Victoria Munro for her care and appreciation of our photo memories to be included in the Alice Austen House tribute to Audre Lorde.”

Oh boy hahaha. So I'm a multicrafter kind of person. I embroider (cross stitch), sew, knit, crochet, and plenty other stuff. When I don't draw, I usually do one of those.
I've always made art since I was a little kid, I made comics, tried to join zines when I was a teen (that didn't work out but I still have the pages somewhere lol), and then my mom asked me to stop art to go into science. So I stopped drawing for 6 years, then fell into Undertale and started drawing fanart like there was no tomorrow and joined animation school for 3 years. (If you're curious you can watch my thesis film here, but be warned, all of it was done by myself so that's why the animation sucks ass lmao. I gave all my focus to rigging to land a job in this area of the industry. Which I did, thanks to this film!!!) That school burnt the living hell out of me and gave me hand injuries, so I can't draw trad anymore or even write more than two minutes without having to stop because of pain. So when I graduated in 2020, I stopped drawing almost completely. Then Käärijä happened and I'm back at it I guess??
Realistic art is my fav thing in the world, transcribing reality in 2D dimension is really my first passion in art. My dad introduced me to charcoal on paper at an early age, and I just never grew out of it I guess haha. People are my fav thing to draw. I find it so relaxing, I'm not a creative person whatsoever as in I don't like to INVENT stuff, so just transcribing shadows without thinking about it gives me peace of mind.

heya!! i’ve had this blog for a while now, but i realised i haven’t ever actually done a proper intro on here, so here it is!! my name is aj (she/her pronouns pls)!! i’m 26, black, and i live in the uk. i graduated from uni 3 years ago and currently work in lab admin, but i’ve been doing creative writing for 10+ years!! i’m currently trying to get back into reading by reading a book a month (i usually share the book i’m reading in the sidebar of my main blog, which i follow back with as this blog is a sideblog: @andipxndy), and i write a variety of fanfiction and original works (both based off my own characters and those i currently/have rp’d with in the past). i also take requests for fanfiction, which you can read about below the cut or in this post (i’ve made some changes which mean the post is not relevant atm)!! but in general i love being asked questions about my WIPs and my characters and basically any characters i write, because i love delving into character thoughts and doing character development (so please send me some!!).
this blog started off as a way for me to share my fanfiction writing, which is how i got into writing in the first place and how i came to love it, but now i’m wanting to expand some more share/talk about some of my original works too!! i write ya sci-fi in my original stuff, but i’m known to drift into romance, action-comedy and crime when it comes to fanfiction works. i’m also over on ao3 as andipxndy.
my main fanfic writing fandoms are abbott elementary and alex rider, just to keep things managable, but i also enjoy watching ncis, criminal minds and lockwood & co., and sometimes dive back into old favourite animes (k-on!! is my current anime obsession). i may be slow to write or respond to stuff but i DO enjoy diving into discussing fandom stuff too!! i also like playing video games like sims 4 (ea is a money grab pass it on) and cities skylines, and enjoy dnd and rping with friends!!
before this intro gets too long, here are my main WIPs:
power play (1st draft completed, left to stew)
the first original wip i planned, the story is intended to be part of a 5-book series about a 20-year-old who accidentally gives himself powers, and ends up drawn into the science underground whilst trying to save people that he may or may not have also accidentally given powers. and all whilst trying to appear completely normal to his mum and get a summer job whilst home from university.
the crossover (still working on 1st draft, is my main/november nano project)
this is an adaptation of an old rp au i had with one of my closest friends, adjusted to have new, original characters despite the same plotline. it follows a 17-year-old girl as she’s accidentally transported into a parallel universe, where her parents aren’t her parents and she doesn’t exist. in an attempt to get home, she ends up crossing paths with the people who are meant to be her family, and finds out that they’re all superheroes. insert drama and shenanigans here.
the rich life: a modern bourgeoise au (working on 1st draft, is my camp nano project)
a passion project that i’m completing for my rp partners, this au is split into a 3-book series following the lives of our characters in the upper class, those who work for them, and eventually their children, going through the drama of their lives and how they try so hard not to have it all end up in the press. that obviously doesn’t work.
fanfiction fics and requests (ongoing but this is technically a wip)
technically counts as a wip as i have a backlog of fics in progress to write and share for requesters (and some ideas i’ve had myself), but these are mainly either alex rider or abbott elementary fanfics that have been sent in via ask. you can see extra info below the cut after the next paragraph. my requests are currently closed, and i’m working through my backlog. the request(s) active for the forseeable future are:

So one thing I hate in movies and shows is when they don’t bother conveying the passage of time in a creative way and just go for a card that reads like ‘1 year later’ or whatever. Now that I have acknowledged my hypocrisy, which everyone knows once you do no one can criticize you for it, it’s one semester later! I straight up took one semester off from taking pics to make sure these flops don’t get kicked out of college, that’s how shit everyone’s grades, skills, and aspiration meters were and how close we were to financial collapse thanks to the lack of scholarship money + Lakshmi’s 5k dates. If I ever have the brilliant idea to bring this many sims to college again please remind me of this post.
The only sim unaffected by our gap semester was brainchad June who already had good grades and I wish I could ignore all rules and just crown her as the heir. Alas, I’m cursed with Sugar and Sophito. Two notable things happened during this time: June and I took advantage of the extra time I had to focus on her to finally win over Erik Swain’s flaky little heart, and Stacy moved in, you can see her hot new pop-star look in the background with Julian.
Now, for the moment of truth.. did my hard work bear fruit??

The photographer Paolo Di Paolo, who has died aged 98, documented the renaissance of Italy following the dark days of the second world war, capturing that country’s 1950s and 60s glamour. His star shone brightly for 15 years before he turned his back on photography, but in that time he recorded the luminosity of cultural figures such as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Gina Lollobrigida and Tennessee Williams, as well as the optimism and dignity of ordinary people.
His pictures captured the shift from a more innocent, rural life, in a style that mirrored the neorealism movement in Italian film, as embodied in the shot of three boys on a bucolic hill looking towards the sprawl of Rome. His keen eye recorded the societal tension between the haves and have-nots, but his humanist approach highlighted the elegance of every person, regardless of circumstance. He said: “You might not know the subject but you understand the situation. In every image there is a story to tell … that is my law.”
Di Paolo started out as a self-taught amateur, taking photographs for pleasure with a considered approach. “Each shot had to be a good one. If the situation was not as I had in my mind, I wouldn’t take the picture.”
In 1954, he took his photos to Mario Pannunzio, the editor of the influential weekly current affairs magazine Il Mondo. Pannunzio recognised Di Paolo’s talent, and the photographer found his spiritual home.
He earned money working for other publications, notably Tempo, who sent him on assignment abroad. However, it was on home soil, on the self-titled 1959 assignment for Successo magazine, The Long Road of Sand, that Di Paolo produced some of his finest reportage. He embarked on a road trip along the coast in his Arnolt MG, with the author and poet Pasolini in the passenger seat, documenting Italians on vacation at the dawn of a new era. Di Paolo said: “I was looking for an Italy that looked to the future.”
His intelligence, empathy and discretion garnered trust and allowed him to take many candid portraits of major cultural figures including Sophia Loren applying makeup, Marcello Mastroianni sipping coffee and Kim Novak ironing. He formed a strong bond with the enigmatic actor Anna Magnani and his portraits of her with her son capture, and are captured by, intimacy.
Paolo was born into a poor family in the village of Larino, in Molise. His father, Michele Di Paolo, ran a small shop that sold tobacco and salt and his mother, Michelina (nee Lallo), was a smallholder and a skilled painter and embroiderer. He had five step-siblings from his father’s two previous marriages.
He attended the village school then moved to Rome to complete the final year of his studies at Liceo Classico Augusto, before returning to Larino. During the war he served in the Granatieri (Grenadiers) near his home, but did not see action. Afterwards he began writing for local newspapers, but he wanted more from life.
In 1949, at the age of 24, he left home to study history and philosophy at La Sapienza University of Rome. He intended to return to Larino to become a teacher there, but fell in with a group of young artists that was a hotbed of ideas and creativity, and realised he needed to explore a different path.
He had been making ends meet working at a tourism magazine, and was on his way to their offices in 1953 when he saw and fell in love with a Leica IIIc camera in the window of a nearby opticians. He had found the means with which to express himself.
He resigned from his job and used his severance money to buy the camera. Abandoning his studies shortly before graduation, he threw himself into the new humanist movement in photography. “The strength and enthusiasm that motivated us young people was overwhelming: our happiness was intoxicating.”
However in 1966, with the rise of television and the dawn of salacious celebrity culture, Il Mondo closed. Di Paolo was devastated. He wrote a telegram to Pannunzio: “ Today … the ambition to be a photographer has died.”
The following year Di Paolo photographed the Valentino haute couture show, but he was becoming increasingly disillusioned. In 1968 he went to see a photo editor who wanted him to exploit his society contacts, to get “some spice”.
Di Paolo’s strong ethical sense clashed with this new aggressive style and he refused to be associated with the paparazzi. At the peak of his powers, he hung up his camera and shut away his 250,000 negatives, prints and slides.
He moved to the countryside outside Rome, taking a job as an art director for the carabinieri (Italy’s regional police). Over the next 40 years he produced books, which included his photos of the cadets’ lives, and calendars, for the force. In 1973, he married Elena Marcelli, his former assistant, and they had two children, Michele and Silvia. He lived a quiet life and indulged his passions for winemaking, dogs and vintage cars.
In 1997, Silvia was hunting for a pair of skis in the cellar of her parents’ home when she was shocked to discover his photographic archive. She had no idea her father had been a photographer. She asked him about his work but he was reluctant to speak about it. It would take years of cajoling before he allowed Silvia to bring his work back to life.
Finally, recognition flowed. His first exhibition, Il Mio Mondo, was held at the gallery il museo del louvre in Rome, in 2016. Three years later, the MAXXI museum in the city staged a major retrospective, Mondo Perduto, with an accompanying monograph that is the only collection of his work to date.
Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director of Valentino, saw the MAXXI exhibition and, inspired by Di Paolo’s 1967 Valentino pictures, invited the then 94-year-old to photograph behind the scenes at the fashion house’s 2020 spring/summer couture show in Paris.
A documentary about Di Paolo’s life and work, The Treasure of His Youth, by the fashion photographer Bruce Weber, premiered at the Rome film festival in 2021 and is due for release in the UK next year. In May, to coincide with his 98th birthday, Di Paolo was awarded an honorary degree from La Sapienza.
He is survived by Elena, his children and two grandchildren, Matilde and Leonardo.

Out of pure spite I'm attempting to move off of Instagram to somewhere more accessible to artists and creatives who don't have the stomach for reels.
I'm Rissa Groves, (they/them), a 22 year old artist from Michigan who recently moved to Illinois. I specialize in portraiture, sculpture, and stop-motion animation. I graduated in the spring of 2022 with a BFA in Animation from Central Michigan University.
