Pacarana

Dinomys branickii

Family Dinomyidae, pavorder Caviomorpha, suborder Hystricomorpha, order Rodentia

This animal is called the pacarana because it looks a bit like a paca, another South American rodent.

They are the only living member of their taxonomic family. Some other members of this family grew to incredible sizes, like the bison sized Josephoartigasia, which is the largest known rodent. Pacaranas themselves are pretty large, weighing as much as 15 kg, or 33lbs.

Pacaranas are very slow moving and peaceful animals. They eat fruits, leaves, and stems of plants and eat sitting down while holding their food like they have hands. It’s very cute.

The males also stand on their hind legs when approaching females during courtship and there was a viral video of one of these guys standing on their hind legs a while back trying to remove soap from their fur. It has been confirmed by an expert that no, you should not put soap on a pacarana.

They’re mainly nocturnal and terrestrial, but they do a bit of climbing.

These animals are vulnerable to becoming endangered.

You know what.

You know those AU's where the Batfam finds or learns about either hidden or thought to be dead Al Ghul Danny! with a deaged/daughter Dani (Ellie) (I should know, I created a few of those storylines) but what if, now hear me out, what if instead of them finding Danny first its Talia.

Do I want Talia discovering her thought to be dead son to be alive? Yes. Do I want her to find him while investigating Amity Park when the League gets reports of 'Lazarus creatures/water'? Yes.

DO I WANT HER TO KNOCK ON THE FENTON'S DOOR, fully ready to pretend/honey talk her way into the house to uncover what the Fenton's know, ONLY TO MEET A LITTLE ELLIE?!

YES.

Ellie whose eyes and hair look like a copy of her Beloved but she can see bits and pieces of herself as well. Talia knows the child in front of her was not fully her's though but everything makes sense when she hears a voice, a voice she hasn't heard in ages but as a mother just knows, speak out.

"Ellie! I thought I said do not answer the door my Sterling."

"But Daddy, yous was busy fighting the hotdoggys!"

Talia's eyes widen when she finally catches sight of familiar black hair and blue eyes.

and she could only lightly whisper a old nickname she hasn't dared uttered in ages, a name she secretly gave her son due to his love of the stars "Astrophel..."

Empath

Jason Todd is an empath, something that probably no one would believe if they were told the story of Red Hood. It's not an ability he likes to brag about either, honestly, Jason hates it, as much as he hates being back from the dead, it makes him feel different, it makes him feel like he doesn't fit in.

It starts small, with a boy who feels his mother's pain and his father's rage. With a child who sees Batman and instead of a big scary bat feels layers and layers of sadness. It starts with Robin, feeling too much and wanting to change everything for the better.

He never tells Bruce, what good would it do? It's not a useful skill, sensing the Joker's madness didn't help to prevent his death. Feeling Bruce's despair wasn't enough to keep his eyes open.

It ends too quickly, too soon. Maybe for that reason he was given a second chance. One that Jason didn't want. Pit madness feels a thousand times stronger than it should, it pollutes his mind, it seeps into his heart and Jason hates it a little more every day.

Then, he meets Danny in a bar, full of smiles and biting comments but so so scared. He hears his silent pleas, his regrets, his desire to belong, to not be hated. And for the first time in a long time, Jason's heart breaks a little.

For the first time in a long time, the pits fall silent and give way to the confused feelings of the boy beside him.

Danny becomes part of the routine, Jason doesn't quite know how but the boy refuses to leave. He never asks about Red Hood, though the small flicker of doubt every time Jason leaves the apartment confirms that he knows. He never stops him, he just smiles and waits for him with a first aid kit under his arm, bandages his wounds and sleeps beside him.

Jason knows he is dangerous but can't help but love him as much as he can't help but feel the pain that accompanies the boy.

Then, his little home life is invaded by Bruce (worried, always worried, overly cautious), he warns him that Danny is a dangerous creature, warns him that he will hurt him. Jason can't help but snort.

Jason knows Danny isn't human, it's not something his ability tells him, it's just easy to deduce. But when Danny confesses it to him (scared, so so scared), he downplays it, tells him it's okay and he can go back to sleep. Danny doesn't fit into what's normal, but that's okay, he doesn't either.

Do you get the impression the live action is treating us like utter morons?? Like I thought that making it aimed at an older audience would open the doors for more subtle story telling, but no, they're just using monologues to tell us eveything! Like in the second episode Katara's like 'oh his power isn't that he's the avatar, it's that he ~connects~ to people'. Girl we're not idiots we can see that!! And the first episode with Aang's goddawful 'I don't want this responsibility' monologue

THIS, YES. The word that keeps coming to mind is definitely "subtlety". The show for literal children? Had it. The remake for adults? Not so much.

Red-rumped agouti

Dasyprocta leporina

Family Dasyproctidae, infraorder Caviomorpha, order rodentia

Also known as the golden-rumped agouti, orange-rumped agouti and Brazilian agouti.

They live in bonded pairs, or family groups when they have children. They mate for life.

They eat seeds, pulp, leaves, roots and fruits. They also sometimes eat insect larvae when other food is unavailable.

They will eat brazil nuts and will often bury them for later, like squirrels.

They are generally between 3 and 5.9 kg (6.6 to 13 lbs), and grow to between 49 and 64 cm (19 to 25 in) long with tails no longer than 6 cm (2.4 in). Females are usually larger than males.

They communicate with grunts, squeals, screams, and body language.

They are crepuscular, like guinea pigs.

Last week's Creature Report

This old lady's name was Deisy and she's almost 11! Who would guess looking at her fresh golden face. She was very excited for pets

His name is Foguinho and he's extremely long. More long than you could comprehend.

Her name is Margarida and her owners own a tapioca shop. She doesn't let anyone come near her which is her right #noisno #feminism

Both these babies (plus 5 others) are stray cats that hang around a parking lot. The owner of the parking lot get all of them neutered or spayed and gets their shots as best as he can and lays out food for them and a few dog houses, but he can't keep all of them and most of them don't stay in the first place. It's very sad, they were so skinny my heart hurt, but at least they have food and a dry place to sleep when they need.

Another gentleman taking his afternoon nap. His name's Cicero and he lives in a spice shop. He apparently has a sister called Celine but she doesn't go outside.

HUGE man. Huge ENORMOUS big boy. His head was gigantic, but he was a little baby inside. He belongs to a walking troup of Buddhist performers from downtown.

And finally MILKA!!! baby little lovely baby softest baby ever. She's such a sweetheart she's so cute and good. She and her daughter live in a shoe shop near my college and I love them.

The friend they’re talking about is this one who met H when he was in Argentina in 2018 during his HS1 tour. She was wearing this shirt at the time and he signed a bunch of things for her. I believe she told him at the time that Louis was her favorite (she has a Louis tattoo).
