And YES it IS possible to do this without the special brush!!! I mentioned it since this little guide is an explanation of how I did it in that illustration (and i wanted to feature this cool FREE brush)!!!!

So I did this little guide on drawing curly hair for a friend, and I figured some people on here might find it useful too :)

Of course, the best asset in drawing curly hair, or anything for that matter, are ref images. There are hundreds of unique curl patterns, more than I could ever model, and the best way to get someone's hair right is to actually study their hair. That said, if you struggle with drawing curly hair, I hope this can be a helpful starting point!

now i’m thinking about hair. i never had black friends growing up. didn’t have a black classmate until freshman of high school, then moved to a different school with no black students in sophomore year. hell i didn’t even have black online friends. now i have more black online friends (i don’t leave the house so black irls is tricky) and even THEN im not very close to them.

so my experience with my blackness has been centered by my family. my dads side is the worst cause my grandma hated black hair (given she grew up when our hair was called nappy and messy). she always complained when i wore it naturally. insulted me and constantly questioned when i’d get it “fixed”. my mom is from the islands so she appreciates it. she doesn’t understand how americans do their afros tho (she kinda just wets the hair and add oil and call it a day. no shaping or anything). i think my sister and cousin are the only ones who know how to take care of our hair! they both keep theirs really short.

i really like color and longer hair. i despise wearing wigs and weaves aren’t for me. it’s either dying my natural hair or braided extensions/other styles like locs or twists etc. i prolly do have more options but my mom does my hair.

it’s so fascinating to think about how other people get their hair done. friends always tell me about how they got their hair cut, dyed and fixed up in salons and barbers. it’s so fascinating and it’s like. a few hour process!! or less!! mine is like a whole weekend thing. never is a one day thing. never. cut the braids shorter, take the braids out, detangle then wash well, and prepare to braid. that alone takes most the day for me. plus my mom does it alone 9/10 of the time. she works on her feet all day so she needs more breaks, we don’t have good spots to have us both sitting while she does it, and taking out my own hair is awful and nearly impossible. do you know how tiring it is to fiddle with the top of your head for hours? that’s a whole workout right there! i can only do so much!

by the time my hair is washed and detangled again i’m exhausted. so is my mom. we usually continue it for the next day. preparing my hair and then braiding. i never learned to braid when i was younger so learning now isn’t ideal on my own head. but my mom and sister help which im so grateful for. i used to be so tender headed when i was little but my mom stopped yanking my hair as hard and now i can handle it better. a lot of my memories are sitting in the chair in front of my mom, me sleeping or on my laptop/listening to music on my phone, while my mom watches her shows. i have thick tight curls and my hair is getting longer each time i take out my braids (which is good since my hair had grown super slow my whole life. i blame all the relaxing and straightening). so getting each braid in is hell.

of course it’s also being braided with the fake hair. whatever color i wanted, and now im getting more creative with the styles! making bangs or putting beads or leaving the ends open or braiding all the way down with charms and stuff. it’s the best way i can do to express myself! it’s my hair! it takes time and effort and work to get my hair done. i’m stuck with it for a while so i better like how it ends! having my hair braided makes my life so much easier, especially since i’ve had depression since 10 years old. it’s been a struggle to take care of myself at all, so having the huge HUGE possibility of my hair getting knotted and matted and dirty was also right around the corner. braiding has been my savior.

not sure what this post is but i like talking about my hair :3 don’t get a lot of chances too. i never realized how much my hair means to me.

@passing-out-p1eces this one's for you :D (but be warned i'm a self taught artist and i didn't take any actual coures and i only watched/read a few tutorials and most of the things i do are purelly based on vibes)

IMPORTANT INFO!!! Im soooo sorry but tumblr touined the image order; there were supposed to be always a picture of mine and alices next to each other with the same commentary written on them and i little box of text beneath them

heres the reference and what i made (i used a newer charlie [well that came out totally wrong])

and please pardon his face on my drawing i speedran it (and in my art style i draw faces a little different)

here i marked "mid points" (its where i make the hair part) charlies hair usually doesn't look parted so i just find the point that looks like it could have hair come out in 2 directions

with bangs there usually is a parting point (or more) so i just mark the one thats the most in the middle

and from there i just follow the hair flow with one stroke per curl (idk how to describe it) and i always start with the basic shape and only after add thee hair thats not like the other girls (like i said everything i do is purelly based on vibes)

and i continue like this all the way to the neck, than start the other side and then bangs the same way

aaaaand i cant add any more images so follow for part 2 if you liked this one :D /hj

(if this helps someone) i also plan on making one for irl photos where the strokes and stuff arent so obvious

tutorial no one asked for on what i do w curly hair (mine specifically) (warning: i am not a hairstylist i just have curly hair so this is in no way professional)

~ wet it down

~ brush out all the tangles

~ shampoo for the roots of your hair

~ wash out

~ very light, messy strokes- almost like you're hitting your hair?? i have NO idea how to properly explain it but just brush and don't worry abt properly brushing it!!

~ conditioner on the ends

~ wash out

~ again, very light and messy brush stroke

~ dry with a towel, i like to just kind of toss it around under the towel!!

~ let air dry some

~ apply products if you use any!!

also, this could just be my haircut, but my hair tends to puff up VERY badly when i brush it while it's dry!!

again, this is in no way professional. im just a guy who likes my hair to be at maximum curliness

🌼3 Easy and Quick Ways to curl a hair right🌼

While it may seem like an upside to have your hair curled in minutes, doing it on a regular basis, especially without following the required safety steps, can be damaging to your hair's overall wellness. Regular curling iron use can cause damage to your hair, particularly if, like many heat style addicts, you already have dry, coarse hair.The damage will increase with the amount of heat you apply and the frequency of application. You can have a more bouncy and voluminous look by curling your hair. However, the exact opposite of what you intended would happen if you do it too frequently without taking good care of your hair: dry, heat-damaged hair.

First you have to Treat Your Hair with the Respect It Deserves: You have to commit to a hair-friendly treatment routine that feeds and restores your hair if you want to wear your curly hair in a heat-styled manner. Employ a single heating device each day. It is not advisable to curl your hair immediately after blow drying it every day unless you are not a frequent user of heat styling tools.

Otherwise, dont skip this step altogether.

• Make an investment in high-quality, nourishing shampoo and conditioner. After using a shampoo, make it a routine to condition your hair. keeping your hair bright and healthy and preventing it from seeming flat.

• Avoid using really hot water to wash your hair. Because hot water can seriously harm your hair, set your shower temperature as low as you can.
