[Space Core AU]
Danny could see it all.
Where the darkness meets the dance of light, a swirling canvas of stardust and celestial wonders—a symphony of colors, shapes, and energies unfurling across the infinite reaches of space.
Their radiant glow casting an aura that just beckoned him to join.
Cosmic tendrils weaved a labyrinth of star clusters, and stellar nurseries gave birth to new stars.
Nebulae shimmered with ethereal beauty, their wispy tendrils reaching out across the void like ghostly fingers.
Supernovae unleashed titanic explosions, scattering the remnants of dying stars across the cosmos in a dazzling fireworks display of light and energy.
Danny could almost feel it wash over his skin.
Black holes lurked in the depths of space, their gravitational pull so intense that not even light could escape their grasp.
Dark matter, the invisible scaffolding of the universe, weaves its enigmatic web throughout the galaxy.
He could hear the countless echoes, all worming their way into his being and, for a moment, pulling him closer and closer to...
""Danny!""
He fell back into his seat instantly, two arms holding him down, as Earth's gravity once again took hold of him.
Blinking rapidly, Danny shook his head, visions of stars and nebulae sliding away.
Yet not completely leaving his mind.
It took him a moment to remember where he was as he turned to Tucker and Sam.
They sat on either side of him, both having a firm grip on him with deeply concerned expressions on their faces.
They were all outside, at a table nestled in the corner of the (thankfully empty) park, and had been in the middle of eating lunch from a new cafe that Sam had wanted to try.
Or, at least, that had been the plan before he decided that gravity was just a suggestion.
"You okay, dude?" Tucker asked, a hand still holding onto him.
"I'm fine," Danny replied immediately.
But judging by the identical unimpressed looks on Sam and Tucker's faces, neither believe him in the slightest.
And rightfully so.
Though they did let go of him, trusting he wasn't about to start floating away again, they were ready to react if it happened again.
Danny sighed.
"I just got distracted for a second."
"You were floating away." Sam pointed it out, making little wiggly movements with her fingers. "Plus, your eyes were doing that weird galaxy thing again.
"That was just some dust," he lied half-halfheartedly.
She raised an unimpressed eyebrow, not buying that for a moment. "Yeah right. If we hadn't pulled you back down, you would probably already be out of the atmosphere by now."
"I would've noticed," Danny murmured, his eyes shifting to the side. "...eventually."
Sam huffed in frustration. "So not the point I was trying to make."
"They are super weird, though," Tucker agreed, then took a bite of his giant BLT sandwich. "But still cool, in the way they turn into terrifying black-holes that they look like the endless and cruel vacuum of space."
Danny stared at Tucker flatly.
"That makes me feel so much better."
"No problem!"
There was a brief silence, only for Tucker to put his sandwich back down, showing just how serious he was, and ask.
"But seriously, dude, are you alright?"
Danny looked down at the table, wanting to ignore his friends admittedly reasonable concerns, and absently twirled the straw of his ice tea.
But, eventually, he gave in.
"I already stopped by the Far Frozen to talk with Frostbite," he finally admitted. "Even ran into Clockwork, who was feeling strangely non-cryptic, and asked him about what was going on."
"So, what'd you find out?" Sam questioned, leaning forward, eager to hear what he had to say.
Danny snorted, an impish grin growing on his face. "Apparently, I don't actually have an ice core."
They both blinked in surprise.
The fact that Danny's core, practically the ghostly equivalent of a soul and a fundamental part of their being, wasn't ice this whole time and was actually something different was... a pretty big deal.
Sam asked, both curious and concerned, "So, what core do you have?"
"Frostbite called it a space core, or, as Clockwork referred to it, a piece of the Void." Danny rolled his eyes. "I'm like, 70% sure, he only called it that to be extra dramatic."
"So the ice powers were just...what? The first side effect before the weird eyes and the 'spacing' out?" Tucker joked with a grin.
Danny chuckled at the pun, while Sam groaned.
"Basically."
"Do you know what powers you are supposed to expect?" Sam asked, hoping they would catch a break this time.
"Not a clue," Danny said, shooting that hope down immediately.
Tucker raised an eyebrow. "Isn't there someone in the Ghost Zone you could ask?"
"It's, like, super rare; I mean, the only other ghost I know with the same core is Nocturn," he explained with an annoyed huff.
They both winced.
Despite not currently being antagonistic with the Ghost of Dreams, Danny and Nocturn's relationship wasn't anywhere close to friendly, even by ghostly standards.
And considering most ghosts could beat each other up, possibly even dismember one another, and still be willing to hang out later, that's saying something.
Danny sighed. "Yeah, I basically had the same reaction."
"Are you sure there's no one else?" Sam pushed, looking for a solution.
"Ghost Zone's a big place and leads to a lot of others, so probably." He shrugged. "But, even if Nocturn or someone else was willing to give me advice, it wouldn't help very much."
Seeing the confusion on their faces, he continued to explain.
"Frostbite gave me a whole lecture about it, but it basically boils down to the fact that, unlike most core elements, space cores express themselves so differently that there's no real set of powers that they share."
Sam slowly nodded, understanding showing on her face.
"So, while one ghost with a space core might be able to make black-holes, another might control gravity or even create stars," she continued, a hint of wonder in her voice.
Danny nodded his head in agreement.
"Hey, for all we know, you might get the power to twinkle really, really brightly instead." Tucker snickered loudly, with Sam quickly following.
Danny dropped his head onto the table, not sharing his friend's amusement in the slightest.
The snickers soon died off, as Danny continued to mope.
"It's probably not that bad." Tucker pointed this out. "You already learned to control the ice part of your powers; you'll figure this part out eventually."
"And we'll be right there when you do," Sam added, fully believing they would find the answer eventually.
"Hopefully not too close. Frostbite mentioned a few...unexpected stabbings the first time around," Tucker muttered under his breath, wincing as Sam punched him in the shoulder.
Danny rolled his eyes.
He wished that he shared his friends confidence in his abilities, but he was nevertheless grateful for the support his two best friends were giving him.
Thankfully, the conversation soon changed subjects from his potential new powers, moving on to talk about a homework assignment for school as they finished their lunch.
Danny made sure to pay attention this time, staying focused on the here and now.
Yet, even as he grinned from the sarcastic joke Sam had made, he could still feel the pull in the background.
He could hear the symphony of celestial bodies, the stars, the nebulae, and the infinite reaches of space in the back of his mind, all calling out to him.
Just waiting for the day that he would give in to the urge, and in the moment of weakness, join them forever and always until the end of time.

DPXDC Prompt #8
The Fenton siblings stick together. There was never any question about it. Even when Danny accidentally half killed them with the portal accident. He tripped, okay? Who puts the on switch inside the damn thing anyways!? Even when Danielle had that one murderous phase, thinking she needed to prove herself. It was Vlad's fault for trying to manipulate her to his side. Even when Dan went on a rampage and destroyed most of Amity Park. In his defense he thought they all died for real this time. Jazz was the only exception, though the others begged to differ if they counted all the times she decked them after each of the listed incidents. So what if it was deserved?
The point is, despite everything, they will always have each other's back even against their own parents.
Or the Fenton siblings run away together after a reveal gone wrong. They end up in Gotham and find themselves inexplicably entangled with the Wayne family. To make matters worse, the Bats are seemingly everywhere, so it might only be a matter of time before one of them slips up and uses their powers in front of the 'no metas allowed' Batman. Is it too much to hope that half ghosts don't count as metas in his book?

Some Thoughts
The effect of killing the Joker
Red Hood Killing the Joker in Dc x Dp fics.
Isn’t a good thing.
Here’s why.
He could come back as a powerful ghost able to wreak even more chaos in Gotham than when he was alive. With an obsession over Batman.
So while Batman can find some way to fight against the now ghost Joker. I mean he went to hell after all. But if he isn’t fast enough? The Joker can kill the one feared by death.
Now this is a bad and a good thing.
Bad in the fact that yea, Batman is dead.
Good in the way that, yea Batman is dead, but he can come back as a ghost to fight the Joker.
Batman’s obsession being over Gotham, family and protection.
So now the two would be locked in a(basically) endless battle.
Now with no place to hold the Joker in Gotham. That means that Batman has to stay in battle with the Joker just to keep him occupied.
With that comes a bad thing.
The Justice League
With Batman occupied keeping back the Joker in Gotham. The JL would be down a core member.
Their fighting force would suffer a good bit. But that means they also lose their strategist. This would also mean their information gathering is down by a concerning amount.
So because Batman can’t be out of Gotham because of the Joker. It means that the Justice League:
Lost their leader(because you can’t tell he isn’t at this point guys)
Lost one of their core members
Lost their Strategist.
Lost one of the members most effective at information gathering and piecing together information.
Lost the one funding the entire thing
And lost their friend.
-
Zatanna’s magic
Her magic works on her belief. Meaning that if she can believe she can do something, she can do it.
So this means that if she believes she can fight and her magic can harm ghosts. Then it can.
Hell her magic was strong enough to hold back the Personification of the Void. Who consumed the whole dc universe. And in turn, with the help of swamp thing.
Regrew reality.
So you can’t tell me her magic won’t work on ghosts. Cause I’m gonna have to call bullshit.
And the only ghost I can see, actually beating her(now hear me out before you come at me) is Fright Knight.
Now what I mean by actually beating her. I’m not talking about overpowering her here.
I mean fully fucking shattering her belief.
Fright Knight’s whole thing is pulling people into their deepest, darkest fears. So he can-in theory-pull Zatanna into her darkest fears, and make her lose belief in herself.
Effectively rendering her powerless and her magic useless.
-
Jason Todd can punch ghosts
Now hear me out here.
Jason Todd is basically half-dead right? He also has Lazarus Water in his body. So I think that this would mean he could physically fight ghosts even though he’s alive(half dead more like it)
Now Jason wouldn’t know this of course, since his fighting style is centred around range.
But if he lost his weapons. Yea he could go ape shit on that ghost,
-
Captain Marvel
Also known as Shazam
Also known as the Champion of Magic
So we all know that, while Shazam is a child, he’s a highly competent fighter.
He was blessed by Shazam with the powers of the elders.
Solomon
Hercules
Atlas
Zeus
Achilles
Mercury
Whenever he speaks Shazam’s name.
So you can’t tell me that with the power of fucking gods, that somewhere in that list of powers he can’t find something that would allow him to fight ghosts.
So I can say that he can fight both Pariah and Danny.
Can he win? I dunno, but I can say he could fight them.
-
Ectoplasm
Ghosts are made out of Ectoplasm correct? And Ectoplasm in turn is made out of energy right?(correct me if I’m wrong)
So what’s stopping people from using energy attacks to harm ghosts?
Like electricity, magic, lasers and all that.
So the Justice League could use the energy attacks that are somewhere in their kit to fight back against ghosts. Maybe not as precisely as the Feton’s weapons. But they could still fight back and suppress them at the very least.
So this means that Superman could-in theory- use the energy attacks in his kit to fight against ghosts without being powerless.
-
Overshadowing and the Justice League
I do not think that ghosts can overshadow anyone in the Justice league easily.
Since I’m pretty sure everyone in the Justice League has to have great will to save the world over and over again. And fight against beings like Darkseid.
No the two members I feel with be the greatest ones to overshadow would be:
Batman
And
Green Lantern
Batman’s mind is literally a fucking fortress, I don’t know what to tell you. So he could easily just kick the ghost that tried to overshadow him out of his body very fucking quickly.
Green Lantern's will is so fucking strong that he:
overpowered the god of fucking willpower
So there is no fucking way that anyone could overshadow either of those two without
A) Being immediately kicked the fuck out
B)Facing a great deal of difficulty having control over their body.

Wail
When he was human, throughout his whole life, Danny had been silenced. His overbearing sister would interrupt him, his parents would talk over him, and the bullies at school would beat it out of him. So it shouldn’t surprise him that his strongest power in his ghost form is his voice.
One that he couldn’t use anymore.
He had used his voice to banter with ghosts and super villains and Fury whenever he annoyed Danny. It was, in his opinion, his most prized possession. Or at least, it was.
Vlad had teamed up with a few mutants from the Brotherhood. They captured him, held him down, made him drink Clockwork knows what. All he felt was burning and pain, like his throat was a volcano and anything he swallowed was the lava that burned the walls away. He couldn’t eat hardly anything because the pain was so strong. When Logan had found him he was nothing more than skin and bones.
Thankfully Danny knew sign language thank to his few missions with Hawkeye from the Avengers, but at the Xavier institute he was pretty much the only one, which kind of made it all the more lonely.
They all noticed his change of mood. You would have had to be blind to not see it. Danny had become distant, forced into a sort of expressionless behavior. He wanted so badly to join in on the conversations, but he was always reminded by his dead vocal chords that he couldn’t. It was driving him a little more than crazy.
It had almost gotten him and a couple of others killed in the Danger Room, because when he tried warning his friends, he couldn’t. He was a danger to them and himself without his voice. That led him to thinking that maybe it was time for retirement. Maybe he should live his days out in the Zone, where nobody but Skulker would bother him. He could see Frostbite more often, and Clockwork too. It wouldn’t be so bad, right?
It wasn’t hard to sneak out of the school, what with his invisibility and intangibility helping him. But it was hard for him to leave. They took him in and helped him grow, helped protect him when nobody else would. He had made a family here, even if he wasn’t technically a mutant. None of them had batted an eye at that; they were just happy to have a new family member. The more the merrier, as Beast had put it.
He forced himself to look ahead as he walked down the long driveway to the iron gates, wiping away the tears that began to blur his vision. If he looked back it would just hurt more.
“Kid, where do you think you’re going?”
Danny stopped at the sound of Logan’s voice but he didn’t turn around. Instead he waited for Logan to catch up to him.
“So, you’re leavin’?” Logan asked. Danny nodded, tightening his grip around the straps of his backpack. “Why?”
Danny turned to Logan forcefully, angry tears building up in his eyes. He opened his mouth and tried talking, but only ended up in a coughing fit.
“You’re leavin’ cause you can’t talk anymore?” Logan sounded almost surprised. It was bound to happen sooner or later, Danny figured. But he just looked away, eyes closed. If he didn't have a voice what good was he? Yeah, he had special powers, but that what good have they done him so far? Absolutely none.
Logan had been speaking to him, he realized, but he hadn’t been paying attention. But the mutant’s rough hands on his shoulders shook him out of his thoughts. And if he started sobbing when Logan pulled him into an uncharacteristic hug, well, nobody was around to judge.
He gripped the back of Logan’s jacket and made a wet spot on the front of his chest with his tears, taking in the alcohol and cigar smell. He couldn’t remember when the smell became less disgusting and more comforting to him.
“You ain’t useless just cause this happened to you. And it’s gonna be hell coming back from it, but take it from someone who’s literally been to hell and back: it is possible. Do you know how long it took Kitty to round up the students to teach them sign language so they could sign it at your surprise party?”
Danny looked up, his face puffy and red as he gave Logan a quizzical look.
“For your birthday. Don’t tell her I told you, though.” Danny cracked a smile at his mentor. He was thankful to have such good company hanging around to stop him from doing something stupid like running away in the middle of the night like some angsty teenager from a rom-com. Logan patted him on the back a couple of times and they separated, but he kept a hand on Danny’s shoulder as they walked back to the school. Danny tapped Logan in the side to get him to look at him, before using sign language, placing his hand at his mouth and bringing it down in an arc.
Thank you. Logan smiled and shoved him.
No problem, kid..
